The “March” bulletin has been released. It includes details of case numbers that are current for April interviews.
If you had read my earlier post about Visa bulletin pace, you will know that I had expected EU to be between 17000 and 17500. I’m disappointed that the pace is slower – but it really doesn’t signify any problem since there is more than enough time left in the year. So – to those that will be losing patience with this process, PLEASE relax!
A quick note about political changes. There was a budget deal signed to agree a budget for the next two years. This deal has NOT included any changes for immigration as discussed recently. So, for now, there is no immigration change that cancels the lottery. Further, as I have said MANY TIMES, no law change that has been proposed recently would affect DV2018. So – please – NO NEED to keep asking me whether the changes affect DV2018 selectees. There is a debate scheduled for next week, and as I have mentioned before it seems there is little support for the DV program, but whether any changes will happen is yet to be seen.
Those that are current, and have forms processed early enough, they can expect their 2NL in about 1 to 2 weeks from now. I know I am going to get a lot of people who will ask me this exact question – so let me say that again. 2NLs will be sent in about one or two weeks time – that means the latter part of the month. The schedule is that VBs are published between the 8th and the 15th of each month, and 2NLs go out from the 15th to the end of the month (most typically around the 20th to 24th). This is the same every month, so there is no need to ask me.
To those new to looking at VBs, let me explain what the “except” XXX country means.
Processing is spread out over the full year. You can see the progress of the two previous years in this post about basic questions. However, some countries have a high number of selectees and those selectees are concentrated in the lower case numbers. For various reasons, mainly to do with embassy capacity, KCC slow down certain countries as compared to the region. So – in Africa, any case with a case number shown as under the new number can be interviewed but for cases from Egypt, that number is lower. That isn’t a big problem, it just “slows down” those countries a little more than the rest of the region. Since selectees from those countries all have lower case numbers, this slowing down does not present any risk. It does not (at this point) mean they won’t allow all selectees an interview from those countries.
To understand why some countries get lower case numbers, read this article about the lottery draw process.
Read this link if you are unsure how to read the visa bulletin
February 12, 2018 at 18:10
A good number for Africa I hope to reach a higher number
February 12, 2018 at 18:10
Hi Brit,
we are several weeks further in the process. Do you have any new suggestions for cutoff numbers? Would you reconsider that 33000 EU cutoff or do you see it the same?
Thanks
February 12, 2018 at 18:13
I haven’t changed my opinions.
February 12, 2018 at 19:20
Thank you for your response! Last question. Do you feel the same even with this sentence?
“I would be SHOCKED if the number was anything like 33000 – I still expect the final number to be in the 36/37 range”
esp. with the second part 🙂
February 12, 2018 at 19:23
Wait and see…..
February 12, 2018 at 18:12
This year it’s need miracle for bigger number .I lost my hope for mu CN EU 348xx
February 13, 2018 at 03:49
Hey, Moni! EU345xx here. Don’t lose your hope until it’s over, we still have chances. Miracles do happen!
February 13, 2018 at 10:27
I am really panicking ….?
February 13, 2018 at 08:17
>EU345XX will waiting
February 12, 2018 at 18:12
Is it possible Europe zone goes directly to current for May or June? Or we should wait at least VB around 20000.Thanks!
February 12, 2018 at 18:24
Wait and see.
February 12, 2018 at 18:15
Hi, Brit!
Finally, It’s our turn to interview in April, but we haven’t summit our ds260. If we summit it tomorrow, will we still have chance to interview in April?
February 12, 2018 at 18:24
No of course not. Interviews in April will be for cases that are current AND have completed processing by now. So – if you submit tomorrow, you will probably interview in May or June.
February 12, 2018 at 18:26
Thank you!
February 12, 2018 at 18:23
Since the first numbers to be called were in September, so April is the 8th months /12 in total. 66%. Just saying!
February 12, 2018 at 18:38
1. First interview appointments were in October.
2. Pace is not linear.
Just saying too.
February 12, 2018 at 18:24
EU to low,,,,high CN will not scheduled ?
February 12, 2018 at 18:25
Every logic says that the speed and pace of the VB should go faster. Brit do you have any suggestion why is it going slower than we all assumed it should go?
Thanks in advance !
February 12, 2018 at 18:41
At the moment it is all about capacity of the “big” countries. I’m guessing there is pushback from the embassies that are having to deal with the higher number of selectees in certain countries. KCC could limit those countries BUT they know they still have to get through the bulk of selectees in these countries, so they are working with the resources they have.
February 13, 2018 at 13:33
Is it possible to see the number of cases per embassy when their status is “in transit” or we have to wait until decision (approved, rejected, AP) on the case is taken?
February 13, 2018 at 17:25
In transit cases do not show the embassy yet. We wait until the embassy marks them as ready. Xarthisius makes that data available
https://dvcharts.xarthisius.xyz/ceacFY18.html
February 13, 2018 at 18:17
What do you mean with certain countries? is like Russian,Ukrain,Uzbekistan,Albania and Turkey?
February 13, 2018 at 18:28
Yes, those (apart from the U2 countries). The point being they don’t normally handle this level of DV interviews, and have suddenly had to cope with many more interviews PLUS (probably) increased background checking.
February 12, 2018 at 18:29
Thank u so much Brit for your information
February 12, 2018 at 18:32
THANKS!!
February 12, 2018 at 18:32

Hi Razvan C,
If you are from Romania, I would appreciate if we can get in touch.
Thanks
February 13, 2018 at 11:44
Sure, how can we get in touch
February 13, 2018 at 16:46
Thanks. My e-mail is denvelo at gmail dot com. Than we can exchange tel numbers.
February 12, 2018 at 18:39
What does it mean if a region goes current? For example, if vb for may is 20000, and june is current what does that mean, who goes for an interview in june?
February 12, 2018 at 18:44
Well that means all remaining numbers could be interviewed, but that obviously won’t happen until KCC decide there are more than enough visas for remaining demand.
February 12, 2018 at 18:46
May the problem of eu stems from Turkey? Very high number of applicants, very high response rate from Turkey? But i think this is not because of the agencies. 2016 november was just after the coup attempt in Turkey and in the middle of political crackdown. I am really skeptical whether we can see 33xxx or not. Dear Brit do u have any insight? Probably u also wonder and try to understand right? Thanks
February 12, 2018 at 19:04
Maybe. The reality is we can’t be sure. In time we will know more.
February 12, 2018 at 20:17
Dear Brit, If u get some information or find a reason about this issue specifically, please share it. But the case of Turkey and the embassy capacity (even the ambassador is removed) may have some effects about the case. Thanks a lot.
February 12, 2018 at 18:47
Thank you Sir for the update.
Still sitting tight at AF46***
February 12, 2018 at 19:01
Yep – that is all you can do.
February 13, 2018 at 08:58
Hehee..true Brits…holding on for AF51*** too….I trust that we shall get there…
February 13, 2018 at 09:13

February 12, 2018 at 19:21
According to the vb pace, I’m in doubt If I will be called for may with my EU178** ?
February 12, 2018 at 19:29
If it is not May, it will be June, or July… What tje problem ?
February 12, 2018 at 19:32
No problem on my side. I know ur upset coz of vb pace and ur high cn but just be optimistic and everything will fall to its place bro.
February 12, 2018 at 21:16
Lionel, whats your number ??
February 13, 2018 at 16:04
29XXX !
If I’m not selected, I leave my job and I go live in Thailand ! 😀
February 12, 2018 at 19:31
Hello brit, What is the last number they stopped last year 2017 ?
February 12, 2018 at 19:53
That is irrelevant because the number of people selected was different, density was different and so on.
February 12, 2018 at 19:39
Brit,
Thank you for your support , I have 2 questions:-
(1) is it the more financial capability you show in the interview the better or not? (I have assets in my home country “Egypt” but all in realstat , which I give for rent, and not planning to sell at my first year in the States, just to check how it will go).
(2) Does my age have anything to do with the interview decision ? (I am 46 years old)
Thanks in advance for answering.
Regards
February 12, 2018 at 19:54
1. You have to have “enough”. More than enough is not better than enough.
2. No
February 13, 2018 at 14:58
thanks, but what is “enough” for family of three?
February 13, 2018 at 17:26
That is up to the embassy, but typically $25k+
February 12, 2018 at 19:45
Is it possible that you will not be scheduled for interview even when your number is safe and your ds 260 is accurate and the second if any answers in ds 260 is insuffsend do kcc gonna email you and ask you for other clear answers
February 12, 2018 at 19:55
Cases are scheduled when current and the DS260 is processed.
KCC do not advise you if you make a mistake in your DS260 – they don’t know you.
February 12, 2018 at 19:50
you mentioned 2 year budget deal does not affect immigration and most probably dv lottery will not end. Does this period involve dv2019 selectees as well ? Thanks for the reply
February 12, 2018 at 19:56
I did NOT say the lottery will not end. There are ongoing discussions that could end it.
February 12, 2018 at 20:12
Well.. yeah. I meant the time span. Just wanted to know if the two year budget plan covers the dv2019 period. Thanks
February 12, 2018 at 20:14
That is irrelevant. The budget does NOT cover the DV lottery.
February 12, 2018 at 20:15
If the lottery ended and 2018 was the last year could it have any effect on numbers of selectees? E.g. would they be nicer to the rest of us (using NACARA or exceed the limits) or could they extend the year given that there would be no work on October?
Please don’t give me “wait and see” on this one. It’s just a fantasy.
February 12, 2018 at 20:21
DV2018 ends on September 30th, 2018. That is law.
The quota is fixed. That is also law.
It’s not about being “nice”. They do what they are allowed to do by law.
February 12, 2018 at 19:57
Salut as tous je vous remercie pour la publication… Je suis dans les 42XXX je pourrai l’avoir ?? Car j’espère toujours et Je sais que Dieu tout puissant est avec nous……
February 12, 2018 at 20:05
Wait and see.
And post questions in English.
February 12, 2018 at 20:06
I did not mention the name of the petitioner I only said I had someone who field a petition on my behalf with the uscis I 129f and it was denied because lack of evidence please sir answer me is my explanation is enough or should I mention the name of the petitioner I know I asked that question before please tell me if I should mention the name of the petitioner or not
February 12, 2018 at 20:15
Oh My. How many times have you asked this….
If asked a question, tell the truth. If not asked, there is no need to say anything.
February 12, 2018 at 20:23
When you answer to the questions and say yes automatically in the form you explain and you have to write anything you wanna they do not ask for specific things so I don’t write the name of the petitioner I only write I had someone who field a petition on my behalf with the uscis because I was thinking that I do not have the right to mention her name in my form and I will tell it in the interview if they ask me hope u understand me well sir
February 12, 2018 at 22:04
Don’t be so naive – you are dealing with the US Government! They know the name of your friend. You approached them in the past, so they now have a file on your friend, and they have a file on you. Why hide a ominous ‘someone’ they already know and cause unnecessary suspicion and doubt?
February 12, 2018 at 20:10
Hi as I thank you for the publication … I am in the 42XXX I can have it ?? Because I always hope and I know that Almighty God is with us ……
February 12, 2018 at 21:00
Hello,
I have the EU387*** case number and i am worried about this slow progress. I was just thinking if we
can get any formal informations from KCC.
Regards!
February 12, 2018 at 21:25
They won’t be able to say anything.
February 13, 2018 at 10:52
Hey i’m from EU with 386xx case number, lets get in contact and wait together
February 12, 2018 at 21:32
Hay britsimon
My case number 2018Af18###
now i need to chnage my interview location
So can unlock my ds 260 form
February 12, 2018 at 22:14
Maybe. They might refuse to unlock because the case is being scheduled.
February 12, 2018 at 21:38
Simon is it possible to go faster is it possible to reach 35xxx for EU or we are now in risk ? Please give me answer ?
February 12, 2018 at 21:56
Moni?anything above 33k has always been on risk. Not just now.
February 12, 2018 at 22:14
It is possible it could go faster as I have explained already. Will it get to 35XXX – that is the big question – the best answer is wait and see.
February 12, 2018 at 22:19
Maybe miracle will happen …I am very worried
February 13, 2018 at 08:41
Hope dies last.
Have Eu35***, just wait…
February 13, 2018 at 10:33
Brit what about all locigal and mathematical calculations you did ?do you have the same opinion that eu is possible do reach and to be safe all CN lower than 36/37 or everthing fall down with this VB ?
February 13, 2018 at 15:19
Nothing falls down because of one VB – but my recent articles have pointed out some risk exists above 33k
February 12, 2018 at 22:41
You have always said “its sure it will go faster”. Now you say “it possible it could”. It’s official : I’m panicking.
February 12, 2018 at 22:43
It’s official. I’m shaking my head.
February 12, 2018 at 23:04
???i know it’s not funny but could not resist
February 12, 2018 at 23:15
Hi simon will as201872×× will get a chance for interview
February 12, 2018 at 23:16
Wait and see.
February 13, 2018 at 00:16
15950/7*12=27342?
February 13, 2018 at 02:28
That is clueless nonsense.
February 13, 2018 at 00:18
I think 25000-28000
February 13, 2018 at 02:29
But you clearly don’t understand the process….
February 13, 2018 at 00:55
Brit,
I would like your take on whether you predict OC will go current or not.
Is OC 13xx still your safe zone?
February 13, 2018 at 02:32
OC won’t go current. 13XX is still safe.
February 13, 2018 at 04:05
Thanks Brit
February 13, 2018 at 01:04
Dear Simon, interview pace for SA region has slowed down significantly as seen in April’s VB. It went down from 175 interview notifications in March to 125 in April. Do you still think cas numbers below 1500 are safe?. What is the last VB “calling” for interviews this year?
February 13, 2018 at 02:33
125 or 175 is all in the same ballpark. There are 5 more months.
February 13, 2018 at 01:19
After which a number gets current, Will the kcc tell me the interview date If I email them? Ofc I mean before 2NL comes up
February 13, 2018 at 02:33
Show some patience and don’t waste their time!
February 13, 2018 at 01:28
I pray to God that we are contacted for a interview. We are in the 6000 range (Asia). I want to see my brother and my cousins !
February 13, 2018 at 01:30
what about nepal..
do you think nepal will cutooff somewhere above 7000???
February 13, 2018 at 02:34
Wait and see.
February 13, 2018 at 01:36
Brit,
I have been trying to verify if I won the lottery DV-2018 but when I introduce the Confirmation Number, Last/Family name and Year of birth appears the next message: “The information entered is not valid”. I verified many times the information I entered and it is correct. How can I know if I am selected or not? Thanks!!
February 13, 2018 at 02:35
If you want, Email me the confoirmation details (screenshot or pdf). britsimon3 at gmail
February 13, 2018 at 02:49
Brit,
I already sent the information to your email. Thanks!
February 13, 2018 at 05:24
It did not arrive.
February 13, 2018 at 14:15
Brit,
Please confirm if you received my email. If not, send me the email address again. Thanks
February 13, 2018 at 17:25

February 13, 2018 at 18:57
Brit,
I sent again the email. Thanks
February 13, 2018 at 02:54
Hi,
I might be wrong but can this slow pace be linked somehow to the govt shutdown we got recently?
February 13, 2018 at 05:21
No
February 13, 2018 at 03:04
Hey bro. Do u think will be current this year for Asia if the travel ban still in place until September 30th?
February 13, 2018 at 05:17
I don’t know.
February 13, 2018 at 05:28
And OC1490? I can see from trends it won’t go current but looks like August if at all?
February 13, 2018 at 15:04
Or perhaps September.
February 13, 2018 at 05:50
Hello BritSimon. Many people with a small CN in Europe delay the dispatch of DS 260 due to family problems.
How does this affect the large CN?
My CN 35 ***.
February 13, 2018 at 15:05
Late responders can respond later. Some never respond. The latter type mean higher case numbers get a chance.
February 13, 2018 at 06:49
Nothing happened.
Brit, thanks for your work.
I inticipate many questions in this topic.
Relax dudes. Brit told you that this year is another algorithm. I think in the future the step will gradually increase up to EU37000+.
February 13, 2018 at 07:22
Brit,
I would like your take on whether you predict AS will go current or not.
Is AS 11000 still your safe zone?
February 13, 2018 at 15:09
I don’t have a prediction. and I don’t think I ever said AS11000 was a safe zone.
February 13, 2018 at 18:36
The number for Asia considered safe by Brit was 8xxx.. after that the travel ban happened…. so if circumstances changes the number changes… I am trying to state common sense
February 13, 2018 at 09:01
Here is a file to see the VB Numbers Evolution, year after year. The important numbers are the orange ones.
We have already seen a +6000 evolution in 1 month, sometimes… It can happen…
February 13, 2018 at 09:17
Cool, can we know how many visas (including derivatives) have been issued so far across all regions?
February 13, 2018 at 15:14
Detailed data here:
dvcharts.xarthisius.xyz/ceacFY18.html
February 13, 2018 at 15:03
I have deleted this link. I am not comfortable with you trying to promote that website. The website is FULL of inaccurate BS, and charges people for something they can do for free. Don’t link to that site from my site again.
As for numeric progression. I have explained before why a simplistic progression (evolution) is not a good predictor.
February 13, 2018 at 16:07
Ok Brit, sorry.
February 13, 2018 at 09:13
Thanks Brit. Hoping AF will hit 27k in June VB
February 13, 2018 at 09:29
Brit, if you can answer my question above
February 13, 2018 at 15:15
I don’t need reminders. Patience!
February 13, 2018 at 10:30
Hello! How can we know the number of visa quotas used in this year from different Region ??
February 13, 2018 at 15:19
I have published those in recent articles.
February 13, 2018 at 11:05
Nepal Total Count
NEPAL 4,097
(https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-bulletin/2017/visa-bulletin-for-july-2017.html)
But this month Asia Cut off
Except:
Nepal: 4,550
i cant understand ,
1.why kcc allowed more numbers for nepal,?
2.can you predicate next vb Asia ?
February 13, 2018 at 15:20
1. Case numbers are for all of ASIA, not just Nepal.
2. No
February 13, 2018 at 16:04
2018AS889* is Safe?
Country Srilanka.
February 13, 2018 at 17:36
Wait and see.
