People have today started receiving their 2NLs for January interviews. It will take a few hours – and possibly even a couple of days before all have gone out.
The email itself has no useful information. It simply tells you to check the ESC site for the interview details. Some people that receive the email will find the ESC site is not ready, those people should try again after a few hours. Also, some people find the email itself goes to a trash or spam folder or somehow miss it. So – if you think you may have been scheduled but missed your email, you can check the ESC site, just in case. The 1NL (you have been selected letter) is replaced by a new letter which gives the appointment details.
For those that received their interview notice, now is the time to start preparing for the interview. Gathering documents, scheduling the medical and so on. To learn how to prepare please view my guide on preparing for the interview.
If you have received your 2NL – please take a moment to reply to this post and add your region/case number range PLUS the date of submission and whether you unlocked at any point. This helps me gauge the backlog and DS260 processing times. Last month it was clear that cases submitted later than mid June had a chance not to be scheduled because of backlog on DS260 processing. We will see how far that backlog has been handled. Hopefully, this month the backlog will have been reduced.

As I read from other comments..they are still interviewing cases submitted in June ..I didnt see anyone from July..that’s mean they only moved 2 weeks in January? Hope in February things will get better and faster
Good luck for everone
November 22, 2016 at 00:33
So far June 25 seems the latest – but it’s only been a few hours – so wait a few hours before jumping to conclusions.
November 22, 2016 at 00:34
Hello,
I received my Second Letter a few hours ago.

November 22, 2016 at 04:38
same from nepal but case no. is in 400 ..jun 25 ma sumbit gareko ahile samma aaako xaina..
November 22, 2016 at 01:05
I submitted on June 30th, EU11xxx, no dependents, no criminal record, did not live abroad, yet no interview date for me yet. Looks like they are being exceptionally slow this year 🙁
November 22, 2016 at 01:32
That may be true. I have a feeling they have added some security checks – perhaps to do with the photo since there were additional instructions for DV2018 regarding the photo.
November 22, 2016 at 02:10
Could you please eloborate the security checks and photo issue?
November 22, 2016 at 06:21
No, I don’t have concrete info. It’s just a hunch coupled with changes they made.
November 22, 2016 at 02:31
I’m OC5XX, submitted in mid May, unlocked in mid October (and didn’t resubmit once unlocked) but my interview has been scheduled for January!
Any suggestions for what I should do with the unlocked DS260? The CEAC page is obviously telling me my application is incomplete, but the Status Check page has told me processing has been complete. I didn’t make too many changes to my application, I’d just unlocked it to buy time and avoid processing so my partner and I could decide whether to get a marriage certificate for the purpose of the application (a fruitless activity, now)
Should I resubmit the DS260 now? Or leave it as is?
November 22, 2016 at 06:20
You may as well submit it. If you do want to process with your partner you still could – you would just have to hurry up OR delay the interview.
November 22, 2016 at 06:47
Thanks for your reply! What would it entail if I processed with my partner or delayed the interview. i.e. how would I add him to my application? Assume I can’t just show up to the interview with him in tow, would I have to email the embassy where the interview is scheduled and tell them about it?
November 22, 2016 at 07:04
You need to commit to a plan. Further procrastination will limit your choices.
So – option 1 is book the wedding immediately and contact the embassy explaining what is going on. Follow their advice on how to include him (whether that is by delaying or by trying to meet the deadline).
Or option 2 is process as single, marry later and then spend 2 years and more money obtaining the GC for him once you are in the USA. That plan will cause you to be apart for a long period.
November 22, 2016 at 09:24
Thanks for your answers, appreciate it!

Hello SIMON,I am VENANT NSABIMANA(Case Number:2017AF00022**) from RWANDA,currently I am studying in CHINA.I have just received my 2NL and my appointment is scheduled on 4th January at GUANGZHOU US Consulate General.
My DS-260 was submitted on May 8th ,Unlocked once by October 26th,and resubmitted on October 26th as well.
I need your suggestions:
I checked the documents required for immigration visa interview at GUANGZHOU US CONSULT ATE GENERAL,but I am confused somehow:
As an applicant for the immigration visa, is it also mandatory for me to submit the following kind of document under EVIDENCE OF SUPPORT?
《1. Immediate relative (CR/IR) and family preference (F) cases: An original I-864 (or I-864EZ, if applicable) signed by the petitioner must be submitted with his or her most recent Federal income tax return. 》
《2. Returning resident (SB-1) and diversity visa (DV) cases: A sponsor must submit: a) an original, signed I-134, b) proof of U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residence and c) evidence of sustained income or financial resources, such as a job letter, pay stubs, a bank letter, or forms 1040 and W2 for the most recent taxable year.》
《3. Employment preference (E) cases: A job offer letter from the petitioning company should be submitted.》
and for EVIDENCE OF RELATIONSHIP, are the following requirements also mandatory for the Immigration visa?
《The visa applicant is required to provide evidence of his/her relationship with the petitioner. Evidence of a relationship typically includes, but is not limited to, photographs taken with the petitioner, phone records, letters, money transmittal records, household registration, and school records. 》
Thank you!
Best regards,
November 22, 2016 at 06:15
The quoted instructions say exactly what you have to provide – and I-134 and supporting documents.

Hello, my Case number is within the January bulleting (EU). I submitted my DS on 9th July. I got confirmation from Kentuckhy that my documents are processed and sent to the US Embassy in my country for further visa processing. Is the Embassy usually doing further checks or they just schedule the interview? So far no 2NL. I really hope that I will get it these days.

November 22, 2016 at 10:51
Hello, BritSimon,
I received a 2NL today only.
I have a question, which is long, boring and at the very end of this paragraph 😀
The Embassy in Nepal requires that the applicants, during the interview, present a welcome letter from a sponsor in the US. I have heard from previous successful interviewees that only such a welcome letter suffices and that no taxslip, income, pay record or any evidence of the sponsor himself/herself being able to bear all expenses of the DV winner is asked for. Notwithstanding, I find, in your writing and comments by several others, that the proof of financial strength adequate enough to support the winner until he/she stands on his/her feet.
Could you please explain?
I find that the sentence that your this particular piece starts with is less than desirable. The sentence should not have an “are”. It should, therefore, read “People have today…”
Thank you!
🙂
November 22, 2016 at 15:32
Nepal has unusual procedures. They ask for a welcome letter but not supporting evidence.
November 22, 2016 at 11:04
Hi Brit,
Got the Interview date,
Case number AS19XX
DS 260 submitted on mid JUN 2016
Interview date 2nd week Jan 2017
Thanks Brit for all the guidance and information!!!
November 22, 2016 at 11:42
Hello Brit,
I am writing from Sierra Leone. My CN is AF201714xxx I submitted on the 1st November, 2016 but I noticed that lower case numbers are now getting their dates for an interview. Will the visas not run out before we are scheduled for an interview date. I also observed that during the DV 2016 process, applicants were refused visas even though they are qualified but because they were scheduled late for an interview and I think by then the visas had already ran out.
I’m really worried.
November 22, 2016 at 15:28
Would you RELAX! This is a 12 month process. We are in month 4!!! Last year there were enough visas for all.
November 22, 2016 at 12:52
Dear Simon.
Yet to receive 2nd letter.
CN : 2017EU10xxx
Foreign State Chargeability: FRANCE
Consulate : RIO DE JANEIRO- Brazil
My wife from Brazil has participated under France as country of chargeability( Cross Chargeability ) and has been randomly selected for further processing in the Diversity Immigrant
15/06 Fist submission
30/08 Re-opened.
09/09 Second submission (minor changes)
Interview not scheduled yet.
I ‘am going to New York this week on business trip , should I ask to re-open again our form in order to inform my trip to USA ?
Thank you.
November 22, 2016 at 15:25
No need to unlock for that trip.
After several LONG posts you have made I don’t *think* you mentioned your wife was the winner and was cross charging to your country of birth. That is a special case – if the embassy know the correct procedure they should ask both of you to prove you meet the education or work experience standard. Then, if approved you will have to enter the USA together for the first trip.
You should also print out the 9 FAM notes on cross charging, just in case they don’t know the rules.
About the no 2NL, cases are moving slowly. June 25th is the latest I have seen. But regardless of timing, it doesn’t matter.
November 22, 2016 at 16:55
Hello Simmon,
Thank you for your concern regarding cross chargeability. I did mention it couple of months ago and you explained to me that the procedure requires both of us to meet the requirement ( which is the case).
Sure I will bring that document along with others addicional just in case.
Thank you.

November 23, 2016 at 08:42
Hy Brit am isaac AF12***. Submitted DS260 29TH JUNE. Have received my 2NL for January interview
November 23, 2016 at 08:54
hello brit
i recieved the 2NL So i want to change my interview location becouse they sent me previous location in Kenya now i am in Muscut so help me how to change my interview location.
November 23, 2016 at 14:38
Since you have had the 2NL it is a bit risky to change the interview location. BUT if you are sure you want to do it you do it by contacting both embassies and asking the Kenya embassy to send the case to the Muscut embassy. This will inevitably cause delay, and there is some risk that the two embassies don’t communicate well, causing problems.
November 23, 2016 at 09:04
Hi Simon,
I’m a little bit confused about the interview schedule which is b/n “late submission and case number sequence”. which one does really matter on the schedule date? could you please clarify this confusion of mine? Thanks
November 23, 2016 at 14:36
The case number controls the order of interviews. HOWEVER, no interview can take place for a case until the DS260 is processed.
November 23, 2016 at 10:15
Hello dear Brits I am cn 2017AF20489
Submitted first on the 13 of August and unlocked 22nd for correction of name spelling I wish you ask if my recent unlock can delay my interview date
November 23, 2016 at 14:33
No.
November 23, 2016 at 10:36
Hello Brit,
As I mentioned earlier, my name was spelt wrongly during the initial entry but after receiving the 1NL you advised me to write an inform KCC of the typographical error which I did.
I then received a reply in which they told me to enter the correct information on DS260.
Should I take a copy of that reply with me to the interview or will it affect the interview if they’re reminded of the error?
November 23, 2016 at 14:33
The CO will have access to the email already – but print it and take it anyway.
November 23, 2016 at 14:35
Thanks brother!

November 23, 2016 at 14:31
For males under 26 the form will not submit until you have reviewed the selective service information on the last page (just before you submit). Read the text and when you see a link about selective service (possibly military duty), click the link, read that info. The form will then allow the submission.
