People started receiving their 2NLs for March 2017 interviews. It will take a few hours – and possibly even a couple of days before all have gone out.
The email itself has no useful information. It simply tells you to check the ESC site for the interview details. Some people that receive the email will find the ESC site is not ready, those people should try again after a few hours. Also, some people find the email itself goes to a trash or spam folder or somehow miss it. So – if you think you may have been scheduled but missed your email, you can check the ESC site, just in case. The 1NL (you have been selected letter) is replaced by a new letter which gives the appointment details.
For those that received their interview notice, now is the time to start preparing for the interview. Gathering documents, scheduling the medical and so on. To learn how to prepare please view my guide on preparing for the interview.
If you have received your 2NL – please take a moment to reply to this post and add your region/case number range PLUS the date of submission and whether you unlocked at any point. This helps me gauge the backlog and DS260 processing times. Last month it was clear that cases submitted later than late July had a chance not to be scheduled because of backlog on DS260 processing. I expect we will see a good amount of progress until September submissions – so some feedback will be useful to determine that accurately.

brit let me correct its not my passport its my children passport if i unlock it will delay?
January 22, 2017 at 16:49
No
January 22, 2017 at 14:47
Hi Brit,
on the US Embassy in Addis Ababa i got a guideline PDF which has a line saying
”DV applicants must have a sponsor in the U.S. but are not required to show financial support.”
is that mean we will not required to to show affidavit of support documents at all?
I am asking you this as you said sometimes they may ask but it says not required..
January 22, 2017 at 16:47
“Not required” means not required in 100% of cases. Some selectees are asked for that, depending on circumstances. However, as they state, they are usually satisfied with a host (because that is a form of financial support).
January 24, 2017 at 20:30
My sponsor is my 2nd cousin does it mean i m fine without providing AOS or should I?(also from Ethiopia)
January 24, 2017 at 20:35
Each person can make their own decision about whether to use an I-134 or not. If you don’t have one and the CO insists on one, then you experience a delay. To avoid the risk of that delay, some people get the I-134 just in case it is asked for.
January 22, 2017 at 14:52
and it might not help you to estimate the backlog history, but here is mine
CN: AF18XXX, Ethiopia
DS submitted: May 6, & never unlocked

Thanks Mr Simon.

Hi Brit,
Case # 2017AS0049XX (Nepal), DS-260 first submitted on Oct 1st week, opened and resubmitted on Jan 1st week, doing AOS, and a regular follower of the AOS forum and the AOS spreadsheet on the immigration forum website.
When I called KCC last week to inquire about my DS-260 processing, a lady said that my DS-260 submission date, as recorded in their system, is Jan 1st week, and therefore, the processing has not started yet. She further asked me to check back after 2 months (i.e., mid March). Now, I have the following concerns:
1. I have read that, in normal cases, opening and resubmitting DS-260 does not affect the processing time. However, in my case, that does not seem to be true. FYI, I had opened DS-260 just for 2 days before resubmission, and it was for providing more specific details about my high school. What is your say on this?
2. How long is the DS-260 processing time for AOS doers? My understanding is that DS-260 is not processed by KCC for AOS applicants, but they do send 2NLs as a simple notice that they are aware of my plan to do AOS. Does it mean I will get the 2NL right after KCC starts to process my case (i.e., no processing time, but just the waiting time the queue to reach Jan submissions)?
3. I expect to be current in May, and I want to do early-filing for AOS, which means I want to send documents to Chicago lockbox around Mid March (after visa bulletin gets published). How likely is it that I get my 2NL by then? Ideally, I would want to include the 2NL in my AOS package? I don’t know if they even accept the AOS package without the 2NL. What would be your suggestion?
4. When should I submit the DoS fee ($330)? Is it after I receive the 2NL? Or, can I do it just before getting current even if I don’t receive the 2NL?
Thanks in advance!
January 22, 2017 at 18:40
1. Ignore what the KCC rep told you. My information is accurate. But if you are doing AOS the DS260 processing is different – so the timeline is irrelevant.
2. There is no processing time for AOS. You may get a sort of 2NL saying they got your intention to do AOS. That’s all.
3. My suggestion is stop obsessing about the darn 2NL.
4. Do that sooner than current.
Make sure you are following the instructions here – http://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2017-aos-only.331328/
January 22, 2017 at 22:18
Thanks for your suggestions and for providing the link to the forum. I have been following the link for the last few months.
I am still not clarified on the following. Could you kindly elaborate?
2. What would be your guess regarding the time when I will get the “sort-of-2NL”? February??
3. Do you mean I can send my AOS package without waiting for the KCC email (2NL)?
4. Can I make the DoS payment before getting the “sort-of-2NL”?
Thanks again
January 22, 2017 at 23:52
2. See my previous answer number 3.
3. Yes
4. Yes

Your embassy will have published a list of their chosen physicians. Check their website and the country specific instructions at the dvselectee site.
January 22, 2017 at 19:41
Hello Brit
Will they sacking oh ambassadors affect the ongoing GC lottery process?
January 22, 2017 at 19:51
No
January 22, 2017 at 23:59
Hi. EU 13000 case , ds 260 submitted end of august is scheduled for interview march 28th.
January 23, 2017 at 00:05
What happens with the processing time, if one submits the DS 260 now, and he/she is not current yet ? How long do you think it will take KCC to process and schedule interview ?
January 23, 2017 at 03:02
Processing times for DS260’s submitted now should be shorter than the 5 months delay earlier submissions saw. Once the DS260 is processed, the interviews will be set about 2 months later. So – a submission now can expect a June/July interview.
January 23, 2017 at 06:33
Hello Britsimon.
I am from Nepal. My care number 46##. Ds 260 sumited may 19. When comes 2nt?

January 23, 2017 at 13:26
Hello,
I remember that you had a list of the amount of people interviewed for every country and the amount of refusals. Can you direct me to that link?
Regards
January 23, 2017 at 14:50
Previously I was able to extract the CEAC data and I published that. I cannot extract that data now.

January 23, 2017 at 19:55
When did you unlock? In August or only in November?
January 23, 2017 at 20:57
Probably not. It might simply mean your case needed more processing time (as it varies case to case)
January 23, 2017 at 20:14
Dear Brit,
I will provide bank statement during the interview but
1-my question will they ask me how I will transfer money to the US
2- and what is the safest way to transfer the money and jewelry to the US

January 23, 2017 at 21:21
Hi BritSimon,
I am from Nepal. Can Nepal hit the 7% visa availability before Aug/Sept ? Looks like my case number will go current around July/Aug and might get a late interview date.
January 23, 2017 at 21:42
It is for Nepal possible to hit the limit, yes. KCC spread the processing out and predict when the cutoff would come. So – at some point KCC would leave a final cutoff number in place because they consider the limit has been hit. I don’t know when that limitation ill be hit. It is also possible (but rare) That KCC make numbers available on the VB and the have to stop processing before all the cases already current are processed. KCC try NOT to have that happen, but it has happened in the past. Ty the way is another advantage that AOS has over CP – because in that case the adjustment of status will continue even though local processing in Nepal had to be stopped. Mind you, I must repeat, that is a RARE SCENARIO.
January 23, 2017 at 21:54
Thank you for your reply.
Is it that a visa slot is available for my case number ? And that slot can only be filled once a decision for me is made ? In that case will I always have visa availability regardless of the timing of my interview?
January 23, 2017 at 22:06
No.
Three things can happen and they affect CP differently to AOS:-
1. KCC can apply a cutoff number below your meaning your case number does not become current. (This is identical for AOS and CP)
2. Your number might become current BUT KCC has to cancel scheduled interviews because visas run out (this is the rare case). (CP has worse risk than AOS)
3. You interview happens, but you are placed on AP. During AP (especially if the AP crosses a month end) your visa slot is not held for you, and once AP clears there may not be any visa slots left. (CP has worse risk than AOS).
January 23, 2017 at 22:04

Thanks!
January 24, 2017 at 02:55
Hi Brit.
Thanks for the guidance so far.
I received my 2nl for March interview.
The guy I mentioned on my DS-260 is not in the position to send me the affidavit.
I have the following questions.
1. I mentioned on the DS-260 form that my green card and other documents should be send to me using the previous address.
How can I change this and what should be my response to the CO knowing that I will be quiz about this.
2. What is the best way you think we can fill the latest affidavit form 1-134? Using ink pen or filling it through the computer?
Regards,
Abdul
January 24, 2017 at 03:41
1. Any changes you need to make will now be done at the interview.
2. Pen.
January 24, 2017 at 05:11
Thanks very much for the clarity.
January 24, 2017 at 05:54
Hi Brit,
I am not clear about this I-134, is this the visa profile we have to make after the interview? If not how and when we should fill this I-134 form?
Thanks in advance

January 24, 2017 at 07:05
hello Brit, is it possible that one sponsor serve for two different families in the total number of persons.
January 24, 2017 at 07:14
Not a wise idea.
January 24, 2017 at 07:45
I meant 6 persons in number.
January 24, 2017 at 21:01
Like I said. Not wise to have one sponsor for two simultaneous cases. The new version of the I-134 specifically asks about that – BECAUSE it would be an issue of concern.
January 24, 2017 at 07:37
Hello Brit,
In relation to 2NLs sent for March interview, is it possible that DS260s submitted on November1st, 2016 with case numbers that are now current should expect an April interview.
Will the processing time for DS260 now be more faster.
Thanks.
January 24, 2017 at 21:05
Possibly. BUT at the beginning of September there was a second draw, so there would have been a small increase in the number of DS260s in September and October as compared to August. Even though all those cases will not yet be current, their DS260s will be processed before a November 1 submission.
January 24, 2017 at 12:15
Hi Simon, i Have a high School Certeficate Which Qualify Me To Dv and I Have Filled on ds 260 form as i have diploma. the orginal diploma document is not in my hand. is that must to bring the diploma during my interview.
January 24, 2017 at 20:47
You need to present proof of your education qualifications in the interview.
January 24, 2017 at 17:13
Hi simon , hope so ur doing quiet well, first of all thanks to you and your whole team. Giving the best regards to each and everyone. I went for interview today got approved and luckily my interview was less than 2 min . Thank you very much for the assistance .

Councelor said congrats ur visa approved and given one slip said make profile using your email id . So why its not showing issued . Plz iam afraid. Interview was on 24/01/2017.
January 25, 2017 at 14:51
The CEAC system often shows AP for a few days shortly before changing to Issued. Relax. Patience. You should know these calming words by now! 🙂
January 25, 2017 at 14:14
Hi Simon , I have some questions according to Trump as he will sign today a decision to restrict immigration from Islamic and Arab countries, do this will affect our cases as I’m Palestinian and my country of chargeability is Libya.

January 26, 2017 at 01:56
Is your number current?
January 26, 2017 at 19:46
Yes was current immediately. Just submitted late
January 26, 2017 at 10:14
Hello Brit,
How are you doing. I had my interview on the 12th Jan. in US embassy Dakar. Unfortunately I didn’t go with an affidavit of support. After the interview, the lady took my school documents and some other documents asked me to provide an affidavit of support. I submitted the affidavit of support( I-134), 1040 and W2 from my Aunty this past Thursday. After checking all the documents, the guy asked for my passport and gave me a small paper( which say “report back to the councilor section”) and asked me to go back there on the 31st Jan. for my passport. Do you think I will be issued a visa?
January 26, 2017 at 15:48
I don’t know.
January 26, 2017 at 11:15
Hello Simon,
My husband and I were given an interview date a week before I am due with our first child.
We informed and asked the USA embassy in the Uk about our situation and what shall we do and they said they will cancel the visa interview appointment and we should inform them asap after our child is born and documents are obtained how to proceed with the visa applications.
My question is does this mean we will miss our chance to obtein a visa?. Our interview was meant to be on the 7th March.
January 26, 2017 at 15:47
It means you will experience a delay. The delay is unpredictable.

If you mean the address listed on your DS260. That cannot be changed now that your interview is scheduled. If you mean the sponsor, that can be changed by getting an I-134 from a different sponsor.

Dear Simon,
Can you please help me regarding the entree to usa.
My wife is he main applicant and me and our two children are beneficiaries .
On the invitation for the interview me and my wife are both stated as applicants and the kids are beneficiaries .
After we will receive the visas is it possible to enter USA first me and later in one month time my wife and kids or does she needs to enter usa first or together with all of us ?

The principal has to enter before or with the derivatives.

Hi,
I´ve seen people who turn in they application later than my girlfriend (I’m already an American citizens) and have already gotten an interview.
Could unlocking the application be a reason for the delay of getting an interview.
When she looks at her status it still says at nvc.
Do you know if there is anyone we could call and check how the application is going. like calling KCC or NVC?
She has case nr 2017EU5***, turned in her application at the end of july and reopened it in the beginning of October.

You could call KCC. Unlocking only affects scheduling with certain data changes.
