People are now receiving their 2NLs for August interviews, it will take a few hours – and possibly even a couple of days before all have gone out.
The email itself has no useful information. It simply tells you to check the ESC site for the interview details. Some people that receive the email will find the ESC site is not ready, those people should try again after a few hours. Also, some people find the email itself goes to a trash or spam folder or somehow miss it. So – if you think you may have been scheduled but missed your email, you can check the ESC site, just in case. The 1NL (you have been selected letter) is replaced by a new letter which gives the appointment details.
All remaining 2016 cases are eligible for interview now, so there should be a lot of 2NLs going out. I’m expecting that some of the busiest embassies will not have allowed KCC to schedule all the interviews in August and will push some cases to September – so that might mean some people don’t get their 2NL. Write a comment here if that happens mentioning the embassy and when you submitted. Some late submissions will have been unable to be processed in time for these interviews and will hopefully be in September.

Hello Mr Brit, please I am just a little confused and your advice will really be appreciated. I have my interview at the embassy in Ankara, Turkey. I have a bank statement of about 10,000 dollars and I also have an affidavit of support but the signature of my sponsor is different from the one on his passport. Do you advice me to bring both documents to the embassy or the discrepancy in the signatures might be considered as a fraud. Thanks and I am waiting from you my brother.
July 6, 2016 at 14:36
You can decide as well as I can…
July 6, 2016 at 05:19
hi mr brit my interview is for the month of August I opened a bank account the problem is that the address montionée the bank receipt is not the same address on my passport
is it a problem ?
sorry for my bad English
July 6, 2016 at 14:28
Sometimes you just need to make up your own mind on these matters….
July 6, 2016 at 14:33
Hello Simon,
You told me that it’ ok if the sponsor and the resident in the DS260 aren’t the same, Is it still ok if one of them in from CA and the other one NY.
July 6, 2016 at 14:34
Yes.
July 7, 2016 at 14:57
Hello Simon,
I wanna thank you for your helping me during this process by giving advice and helpful hints about it. I got my visa approved in the embassy at Honduras. (At the first interview, they just ask basic documents, like birth certificate, education, passport, previous tourist visa since I travel before to the USA, my police certificate for not committed crime and a couple of visa photos; they didn’t ask for my i-134 or and bank accounts or assets that a took in case they were requested. At the second part, they ask about birth places if I knew the birth places of my parents, How many years I went to the university, at this point ask me if I have an acceptable english level, so the rest of the interview was in english, he continued to ask about my last 3 trips to the USA, if I knew when they were and how many days did I stay there, and finally ask where I was planning to live and if I was going to immediately work [I respond no cause I am a DDS, and I need to pass board exams and go 2 years to a University]) Thank you Simon for everything and I hope by sharing my experience at the embassy, can help others with this process.
July 7, 2016 at 15:09
Awesome – congratulations!
July 8, 2016 at 05:15
Hy Brit I just wanted to download the form 1134 but on top it shows expires on February how do I get latest version or is it acceptable the expired one
July 8, 2016 at 14:21
Use the one you have and ignore the date.
July 8, 2016 at 07:58
hae brit,my interview is scheduled on mid august,my worry is that im heavily pregnant and might deliver shortly after the interview will i need to contact the embassy and inform them about my situation
July 8, 2016 at 14:18
They will see you are pregnant at the interview. So – you can discuss with them exactly how to add the child (which is a simple process)

July 8, 2016 at 17:41
Hi brits..juste ask .. all my documents were written my three names (name, post name and surname ) except on my diploma and it was noted that 2 names (name and post name) do you think it does pose no problem ?
July 8, 2016 at 18:11
Probably OK.
July 8, 2016 at 18:19
This is a problem????
July 9, 2016 at 06:51
Hello Brit,
Need some advice…
1) For the police clearance certificate, my wife got hers done with the national ID of her previous country of residence which has her maternal name thus the certificate reads her maternal name. We have another one for the current country of residence with her married name on it. Do you think this is an issue since the report is based on fingerprints rather than a name?
2) We inadvertently used photographs that were older than the 6mo requirement. How serious it this? Do you know of anyone having been rejected because of this?
July 9, 2016 at 14:03
1. No
2. Very rare (but possible) to be rejected for that.
July 9, 2016 at 14:57
1) So I shouldnt worry about getting a new police clearance certificate with the married name?
2) Do you know of anyone that has been rejected because of that?
July 9, 2016 at 15:20
1. It’s up to you (getting it would be safer)
2. Yes.
July 9, 2016 at 15:40
Thank you for your response, much appreciated.
Additionally I just checked the CEAC status online and it reads as follows:
2016AFxxxxxx 01 DRS
2016AFxxxxxx 02 DRS
2026AFxxxxxx 03 DRS
We are a family of 4, principal plus 3 derivatives (Newborn added just a day before AF went current and was missing on the 2NL) I’m not sure if the above info is reflecting all family members 1+3 or just 1+2. If the newborn is indeed missing, what is the way forward?
July 9, 2016 at 17:14
That shoiws the baby is missing. The embassy will probablyu not know about the child – you should contact them beforehand if possible. Make sure you have the medical for the child and print out the DS260 confirmations for all applicants including the child.
April 12, 2021 at 06:55
Dear Simon, we are in the exact same situation with my police certificate from my previous country that doesn’t have my new (married) last name. We will get new police certificate document in a few weeks with fixed last name.
Do you recommend that we send this new document to KCC (and risk prolonging processing time) or should we just have it as a backup for interview? We are SA18xx but doing interview in EU-non shengen. Still waiting for confirmation that documents are processed from KCC.
Thank you very much for everything!
Brenda

Present it at the interview.
July 9, 2016 at 15:09
Hi sir,
My case number is Af38000 i think I was suppose to have been scheduled for an interview this July but I didn’t get any letter yet, should I email kcc, and what do i do if i miss my interview day
July 9, 2016 at 15:19
Yes you should contact KCC. You should also check the ESC page ( https://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ESC/ ) as you might have missed the email.
July 9, 2016 at 18:43
Hi brit,
1) Is it obligatory for all dv visa application to have an affidavit of support and a bank statement for interview at the embassy?
2) I’m from Cameroon, my recent orders of names on my passport is not same order on my birth certificate because formats for the orders of names recently changed in the state. when I was to make my passport in 2014 I was ask to bring a court declaration. It was then a new birth certindicate was made baring the new formats thus affecting the formats of my names. I wish to ask if this change of the orders of my names can affect my visa interview acceptance .thank u
July 10, 2016 at 01:36
1. If the CO asks for that, it must be provided. They don’t always ask.
2. It might. I cannot be certain.
July 10, 2016 at 04:14
Hi Brit i’m a Gce advanced level holder given that im from cameroon thé probleme I face is when I filled my Ds on thé part of school where it us writen attendance -to the time school ended Im not sure to have put thé exact date when school finished do you think it can affect my interview??given that my interview is next week
July 10, 2016 at 04:19
No problem
July 10, 2016 at 06:54
Hi Simon, our D-Day is less than 2 forthnights to go. We did our customary marriage in 2008, no marriage certificate is provided in this ceremony. We formalised our vows at the AG’s office last week and provided with a government marriage certificate. Will this be acceptable? Thanks gov’ner.
July 10, 2016 at 13:39
I think it will be – as you know – what the CO thinks is more important than what I think….
July 10, 2016 at 13:00
Hi Brit,
Are there enough visas left to the end of September? I’ve read that nearly none of the Iranian winners who received AP from January onwards has gotten clear yet!! Is this huge delay only happening to Iranians, or is the rest of the world experiencing the same? As an expert, how do you justify this delay? Is it normal? Are we gonna receive visa?
July 10, 2016 at 13:35
There are enough visas to last until September yes.
Iranian winners have longer periods of AP than winners from other countries – that is because of the lack of co-operation by the Iranian government and the increased security threat from Iran. This same delay has happened in previous years but given recent security issues it would not be surprising if the checks were taking longer this year (i.e. even more in depth).
It is likely that Iranian cases that start AP late will not be processed in time for the deadline, and will not get visas.
July 10, 2016 at 14:07
Thx for the thorough explanation, but would you please clarify Two things?
1.In the first line, you mentioned “until September”, Do you mean possibly there is no visa in September?? Or do you mean there are enough visas until September 30th?
2. In the last paragraph, what do you mean by “late”? You mean the last two months?
July 10, 2016 at 16:27
1. September 30
2. No, the last 4 or perhaps 5 months. If average Iranian AP times are around 5 months, then it is obvious that cases interviewed from April/May are at significant risk of not completing in time. Some cases take even longer in AP. Not all Iranian cases go into AP, but those that do are risky.
July 10, 2016 at 15:56
Does the 2NL always have a barcode? I received mine, but it does not have a barcode like your example
July 10, 2016 at 16:22
No.
July 10, 2016 at 16:39
Thank you so much! What a relief, I just started getting worried.

July 29, 2016 at 10:00
Hello Simon,
I with regards, to my police record in China for the period 2000-2005. I did contact a company specialized in such service in Beijing. As normal procedure in China for foreign students, they must first get an confirmation enrollment letter form the university stating the student successfully completed his/her program and in good conduct. This letter now has to be taken to the local PBS for processing. For my case the University has already provided this letter to the third party company. I have provided all documents(certificates & transcripts) during my stay in China, but I don’t have the passport with the visa which I used as a student in China; I lost in in a stolen bag during one of my travels. At the local PSB in China , they insist they need a scanned copy for this passport which is now missing. I event sent a scanned copy of my current passport including a Chinese visa which I used to travel to china 2 years ago, but they still refuse.
I am really frustrated I don’t know what to do. So I have a scanned copy of the letter provided by the university, what if I ask the company processing my police record to get a document from the PBS explaining why they cannot provide the police record(that is if they even agree to provide it) can it be helpful?
I only succeeded in getting the police record for my stay in UK. I don’t know what to do now.
Thanks.
July 29, 2016 at 15:37
I have no experience of solving that sort of problem in China. You need to do the best you can – but it is likely that the lack of a police report will either delay your case or cause denial.

It is possible for my sponsor to send my affidavit to the Embassy instead of me carry it?

No.
July 11, 2016 at 18:57
Dear brit hi, while many iranian cases who are interviewed from january to march more than 100 cases are not cleared yet (no cases are cleared except 2 or 3 cases totally), the embessies are clearing many cases interviewed in april and may I know more than 10 cases that are cleared. Is it possible that their system have some problems for example a software failure or mising some data for cases who are interviewed from january to march?
July 11, 2016 at 21:25

July 28, 2016 at 03:28
Hi
I am reading and gathering information. I have a question. Are bank statements from applicant and spouse with a combined total of about $30 000 US or more sufficient for support in place of a sponsor?
Also a copy of life insurances for both spouse and applocant.

Hi BritSimon, awesome website you have put together here with a lot of very helpful info!
I participated in the DV 2016 and got selected in May 2015, my case number is: 2016EU0002xxxx, Danish resident. If i’m selected for an interview it will be conducted at the US embassy in Stockholm, Sweden.
I submitted my DS-260 on July 11 2016, called the USCIS a few days ago about when I will get an update regarding an interview, they said I would most likely get notified in a couple of weeks.
What do you think it my case, did I submit my DS-260 to late to meet the deadline (saw the Visa bulletin status that said ”Current” for my region.)
Also region being able to financially support your if you win the whole thing and move, will it help my case having an employment letter with me to the interview showing that I have a job when I enter the US? If not I have family in the US (two cousins, holds dual-citizenships, American and Danish) will a AOS help in this, or maybe having both to on the safe side.
Thanks!
July 14, 2016 at 20:58
I think it is likely you submitted too late. Given that you spoke to KCC they will have rushed the processing if they could, but whether your case can be processed in time is 50/50.
If they schedule your interview, you should obtain an I-134. Stockholm accept those and if you have that – it is all you need.
Please let me know whether you get scheduled. Yours would be about the latest submission I have ever heard of…
August 24, 2016 at 20:27
Hey Again Britsimon,
I got my interview on September 6 in Stockholm – Just got the notification today from USCIS!
Submitted my DS-260 on July 11, so just over 2 months after! However as I wrote the interview is on September 6, so under 2 weeks of notice! Have to call the dedicated doctor in copehangen tomorrow and hear about a medical examination ASAP!
For the financial support I’ve read the Stockholm is a bit strict on this, how much cash do you do need to have in your bank account on average? I might be able to get my american cousin to sign a I-134 for me, but I’m not sure this can be done and sent to me before the interview! Do you think the embassy will accept a scan of the required documents for the I-134 or will this have to be original documents?
My employer has a office in Brooklyn, NY where I might be able to get transferred to, do you think Stockholm will accept an official letter including agreed salary details from the CEO of my company that I can be offered a job in Brooklyn if my visa get’s approved?
Thank you!
August 24, 2016 at 20:33
I’m glad you got that appointment – you were lucky!
I would strongly suggest an I-134. Get it sent by mail if possible, email if not. Make sure to get copies/scans of the supporting documents (1040/W2/Payslips/ID). You could get the job offer – but the I-134 is safer and less likely to be questioned.
August 25, 2016 at 17:46
Yeah I guess I was pretty lucky – I even called them 3 times after I submitted my DS-260 in July, the last two calls with the kentucky counsel I got the message I submitted to late and I had to re apply next year. But anyway, my cousin is in the process of filling out the I-134 and gather all the supporting documents, he had one question though which I am not sure about, you can help with this?
What do you answer in Section 11 about the special contributions and does it matter for the validity of the AOS?
Thank you!
August 25, 2016 at 18:21
Section 11 is very important. It should say something like:
“I intend to provide whatever support is needed for as long as needed.”
August 25, 2016 at 18:30
Thanks for the quick replay BritSimon! In the I-134 instructions they mention a some further documents besides 1040/W-2/Payslips and ID.
They ask for when my sponsor opened their account, present balance, statement from employer regarding nature of work and whether the position is permanent or temporary, what is you experience? Should the 1040/W-2/Payslips and ID documents be sufficient?
Thanks

July 15, 2016 at 17:19
Dear Brit,
We are family of Three and 2NL interviews scheduled in Sri Lanka. I have two sponsors in USA NY,
A) One is willing to arrange me food and accommodation He is not in a position to support financially since his parents are depending on him. he is going to give a separate affidavit authorized by his lawyer by mentioning his capacity to accommodate us.
B) The other one is willing to give the I-134 by mentioning the financial support.
My questions are as follows,
1- Is it essential to submit I-134 from “A” or can we process with his Lawyer’s affidavit (not the i-134) and “B’s”I-134?
2- Can we submit a separate I-134 from “A” by mentioning his capacity?
3- Can we submit two I-134 forms?
Pls explain.
July 15, 2016 at 18:17
An I-134 is evaluated according to a formula. Link below with more info.
If your sponsor B meets the requirements of the formula, that is all you need. You cannot combine two unsuitable I-134’s to make “one good one”

Hi mr brit …just one question.,there is a lil mistake on my diploma just of 1letter instead of W they did U can it cause me a problem?
July 17, 2016 at 14:49
Hi britsimon….i am a dv selectee of 2017….just need your help .,till now i am not yet submitting
Am i late? And there is a mistake on my diploma about my name of 1letter….instead of MWANZA but its MUANZA
So can it cause me problem? Thnx
July 17, 2016 at 22:44
You are not too late. There is plenty of time to file.
The name issue would not normally cause a problem (apart from some very strict embassies such as Ghana).
July 18, 2016 at 07:40
Hi brit i went to the interview on Friday and my visa was approved and when i check my status today its written AP. is it normal
July 18, 2016 at 14:49
Yes it is very common to show AP for a couple of days before issued.
July 18, 2016 at 11:39
hi brit thanks for all your wonderful advices. i am a Dv 2017 winner with 3 derivatives i have not forwarded our DS260 form as am expecting my wife to give birth at the end of August. my case number is AF3684. if i decided to submit the form in January 2017 when all my documentations should have completed will that be late for me?
July 18, 2016 at 14:43
That would be OK
July 18, 2016 at 21:10
Hello Brit, I appreciate reading your post daily while preparing for my Interview in early August. Just i have some trouble. Im a Cameroonian based in South Africa, working on getting all requirements and just realized that my temporal residence permit here in SA is only valid up to 20th July, Hence my appointment will be on the 5th of August, Please what needs to be done as i cannot (impossible) to renew my permit or temporal visa to follow up my interview, Do you think they will consider my expired permit? Or will accept a renewal application receipt? Im scared to loose my only chances.
July 18, 2016 at 21:32
The US embassy won’t care. But they need your passport for a week or two so that might cause complications with SA authorities.
July 18, 2016 at 22:19
Hi, I please need some “info” about supporting financial docs for interview:
I have a completed I-134 (from a direct family member where I will be living)
Room and board will be provided, sponsor’s income is ample (10x higher than poverty guide +savings, stocks and bonds + they are owners of property).
Question 1)Should I ask them to state specific monetary contributions?
I plan to support myself, but will only liquidate my assets and actively apply for job interviews AFTER the visa interview.
Question 2)How much financial “self” support must I provide at interview? ($ per person per month)
July 19, 2016 at 14:20
1. No need – a non specific statement is better (“like any assistance as needed for as long as needed”)
2. If you have the I-134 – that is all they will want – but if you want to show savings, $10,000 minimum (for single person), and more is better.
July 19, 2016 at 10:16
Thanks so much brit my visa was approved and am now 7 months pregnant and single can u imagine they never asked anything to do with the pregnancy thanks so much and may God bless you as you continue to encourage other people like me
July 19, 2016 at 14:12
Congratulations!

My problem and question here is this letter carried an attached word document with medical location and steps to email documents back but it was titled CONGO DOCUMENT LETTER FOR DV, but im a Cameroonian and since i emailed them to ask if its compulsory for Cameroonian nationality they haven’t responded, also subject emailed carried my Case Number, but I have not been able to find that email address anywhere on the South African US embassy website. Should i email my copy of documents to the email that was sent to me. Thanks and your suggestion will be appreciated.

The requirements are essentially the same from one country to another. So have a look at the list and use your common sense to decide whether anything is Congo specific, or has a Cameroonian equivalent. Then send what you think is needed.

Hi Brit
Is there any special letter sent from the embassy to every one who received their 2nl directing them where to do their medical? Or it is the instructions that is usually downloaded in PDF directing base on surname you are going to follow??

Watch my video about preparing for the interview.

Dear sir,
I am one of DV 2016 winner with my wife, but when we are taking the medical examination she had TB, and the consular told us to come back when she done her medicines. But i asked the consular i want to go first then he said OK and give me my visa. Now she just finished her medicines after 6 months, but the medical examiner take sample from her to see weather the TB is gone or not and that test took 2 months and 9 days from now.
So my question is
1.how can we ask appointment
2.if we ask appointment the embassy by now and if they give us the just random day that may be before the test result it means without her medical result or we have to request the embassy after she get her sample test result that is going to in the mid of September
3. do you think the embassy may give her an appointment before September 30 if we ask the in them in mid of September because the there is no visa issue for facial year after September 30 right.
Appreciate your kindness, Thanks for the reply

1. Contact the embassy.
2. I don’t know – ask the embassy.
3. I don’t know.
You have to understand I have no idea how they will handle your case – it is very unusual…
July 20, 2016 at 23:08
No way, i need really need your help. I know you may have no idea how the embassy work, but please try your best for me.
July 21, 2016 at 03:49

hey brit? so i will be hosted by a person A, whom barely know,,but it seems its kinda hard to get an affidavit of support from him,is it okay if i get that from someone else in the state,,,considering that its person A i listed when filling the dv 260 form
July 21, 2016 at 20:10
That is OK.
July 24, 2016 at 17:27
I am derivates of dv2017 winner . I lost my passport which i filled on ds260. Now i have new passport. Q1. Shall i email kcc to unlock ds260 and insert new passport data? Q2. If they unlock and i corrected , does it affect interview schedule means does it extend the time for interview? Q3. What shall i do if the kcc does not unlock the ds260 provide that they scheduled for interview? Thanks for your help.
July 24, 2016 at 20:08
1. Yes
2. Probably not.
3. They will unlock.
July 26, 2016 at 01:17
Hi
I am reading your postd and I am a bit confused.
Do we really have to obtain an affidavit of support or can we just bring a bank statement to the interview. If we both have over 10 000 in statement will that be ok.
Or…..when we receive the Interview letter and the affidavit is not mentioned is that ok
July 26, 2016 at 03:19
The affidavit will not be mentioned in the 2BL, but the CO might ask for it. $10,000 might cover a single person, but no derivatives. An affidavit is safer.
July 28, 2016 at 03:40
Finally I come across that topic tht I was researching. I meant to have specified on the question…..would a minimum of $10 000 per person be sufficient without an affidavit….
July 28, 2016 at 04:57
Generally, yes. But again – an I-134 is safer.
July 26, 2016 at 17:34
hi brit, my interview will be on 1st of august, I just receive a call from the doctor, he said that my son has the tuberculosis,
my question is : Do you know if anyone having been rejected because of this?
thank you!
July 26, 2016 at 20:30
Yes that can cause denial for your son. There may not be time to treat the TB before the end of the year (September 30). In that case your son would not get a visa through the DV, but the other family members could. However, re-uniting the family could be complex as it could take around 2 years to sponsor a child outside of the DV program.

July 27, 2016 at 01:05
1. Take all proof – I don’t know whether it will be used or not
2. That should be OK – but some embassies might take issue with it.
3. Bad idea this late in the year.
4. I don’t think that will be a problem if the two places are close together and in the same country.
July 29, 2016 at 11:52

Hello BrtiSimon,
I attended my interview today and was asked by the US Consulate to contact my local National Examination Council to send Confidential report of my high school diploma direct to the US embassy….Brit, what does this mean? Is my case kept on hold for further processing or it is a sign of visa denial?
Though, after the interview, I checked my CEAC status and it read:
(Your visa case is currently undergoing necessary administrative processing. This processing can take several weeks. Please follow any instructions provided by the Consular Officer at the time of your interview. If further information is needed, you will be contacted. If your visa application is approved, it will be processed and mailed/available within two business days. Under the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act, Immigrant Visas for “Diversity Visas” cannot be issued after September 30th of the year in which you were selected to apply for a Diversity Visa. For example, entrants into the Diversity Visa Program in Fall of 2011 were selected for Diversity Visa 2012 Program, and selectees MUST apply and receive their visa prior to September 30, 2012 otherwise they lose eligibility to receive a Diversity Immigrant Visa, regardless of additional administrative processing. In addition, please note that some immigrant visas may not be able to be issued if the annual numerical limit for that category has been reached).
All other required documents were okay other than verification of my high school diploma.
Tomorrow morning, I will contact my local National Examination Council in regard. Brit, are there some hopes in my case?….Please advice. My interview location was in Nairobi, Kenya. Thank you Mr. Brit, and looking forward to hearing back from you.
August 3, 2016 at 16:32
Follow their instructions as quickly as possible – there is still a chance to get approved.
August 4, 2016 at 13:45
Thank you very much Mr. BritSimon. I will do so.
September 2, 2016 at 15:02
Hello BritSimon,
I wanna say thank you as a kind token of your sincere help and advice over here. I should like to inform you that, after carefully following your instruction on this site, my visa was finally approved and issued on August 29 2016 at the US Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya.
Keep up with the good work BritSimon!
With Warm regards,
Vince

Hello again BritSimon,
Should the COs to stay with the police certificates? Just realized that they did not return it back to me.
August 4, 2016 at 19:51
thats after being denied ofcourse
August 4, 2016 at 20:44
They typically keep documents presented at the interview. You could ask for their return, I guess.
