I would appreciate your answer 🙂
May 19, 2017 at 03:51

hi sir. I m the winner of 2018dv from africa. MY question is
1, I was divorsed during entering but now reunion . Can i fill ds260 as marrid with the previous spouse,? what shall i do?
May 19, 2017 at 03:44
I assume you have divorce paperwork since you entered as divorced. You would then need to get married and present that all at the interview.
May 19, 2017 at 12:55
Hi Simom. I am still waiting your help about my burdon pls.
May 19, 2017 at 13:12

May 19, 2017 at 14:29

May 19, 2017 at 18:38
Thx simon. HOW can i get information about living in usa.
May 19, 2017 at 18:43
Wow that is a broad question. Try the internet.
May 18, 2017 at 22:53
Hi,
I’m hearing various timeline on how long it will take to get the green card once your number is called.
From historical data my number is likely to be called in November 2018, and if that continues this year and I apply immediately at a consulate outside the US (a less busy one), do you have a rough idea of how long it will take for me to be able to have work authorization in the US?

Hi Sir, I have a situation, I hope you have the answers and help us out. We (my wife, our baby & I) Entered US with B2 and filed a political asylum and which is also accepted in first week of 2017 May. As I came early to US before my wife and kid (Came late), I overstayed and my wife and kid’s presence is legal (I-94 was active) while filing asylum in April 2017. Meantime my wife has win DV2018 with myself and our kid as dependents.
As our asylum is pending, what do we have to do now?
1. What we have to do first.. File DS260 or register in DVSelectee site and when we have to do it?
2. or Do we have to file I-485 (Adjustment Of Status) to process the green card while we are in us and when we have to do it?
Really looking forward your reply in this regards
Thanking you
May 19, 2017 at 03:09
You should talk to a lawyer. You should not be overstaying and being out of status can mean you cannot adjust status. Furthermore,. the illegal presence could get you banned – and if you do that you won’t get a DV lotter GC.
May 19, 2017 at 02:21
Hi Simon
Thank you for all the great work you are doing here. It’s clearly so helpful to so many people around the world.
I have a couple of questions as a selectee 20180007**
1. The DS260 online form won’t let me leave a gap in my previous addresses for more than a month. Is it a problem to have periods of “no fixed address”? if I was traveling /working O.S and staying in hotels, backpackers, friends houses etc.
2 My daughter is in the middle of yr12 and wouldn’t be able to travel to an interview in october/november because of compulsory study sessions and exams….. if I lodge my application in the next few days and my number is 7** do you think it would be an accurate estimate that we would come up for an interview in Dec/Jan?
3. If I was traveling in the US for 6 months or more will I need a police certificate from there?
Thanks so much.
May 19, 2017 at 03:06
1. Just connect the dates so there is no gap.
2. I have no idea because you missed your region.
3. No
May 19, 2017 at 06:03
Good Mr Brit
please am finding difficulty to sign and submit my form, it saying-the case number you entered does not match the case number that you entered at Sign In. 2018AF00030XXX..
THANKS FOR UR HELP
May 19, 2017 at 08:34
Try swap date and month first.

Hello everyone, thank you very much for the job done here.
I’m from Cameroon, and my wife was selected in DV2018 with case number 2018AF00033***
I have one son with another woman before I know my wife, And we have another one together. On my entry application I listed them all, but in my wife entry I just listed our son.
1-Is it possible to add my first son on DS260?
2-Base on her case number when can be the period of interview?
3- she didn’t complete her high school, but she is employed since three year.
May 19, 2017 at 10:41
1. No. Your wife has broken a critical rule, because her step child should have been on the DV entry. Given that the child was on your entry, they already have the evidence that this child exists, so will disqualify her if they compare your form with hers. They will also disqualify if you list the child on your DS260, but she doesn’t. I’ll answer the other questions but I would recommend you drop the case.
2. https://britsimonsays.com/dv2018-basic-questions/
3. This also could be a problem depending on what work she has been doing. If the work experience is not at the correct level, she cannot qualify.https://britsimonsays.com/education-or-work-experience-qualifying-for-the-dv-lottery/
May 19, 2017 at 08:03
The transcript of Grades 1-6 was lost. I have already reported and requested a copy at school. However, the officer said only transcript of Grade 4-6 could be issued and the transcript of Grade 1-3 could not be re-issued again. So I now have 3 issues of transcript namely Grades 4-6 (elementary school) / Grades 7-9 (junior high school) and Grades 10-12 (senior high school). I feel like this problem is about to trouble. Is it necessary to provide my case in DS260, educational institutions page? And what should I do If I have an appoinment to interview? Thank you
May 19, 2017 at 10:46
Grades 1 to 3 are not important.
May 19, 2017 at 09:21
My case number is 2018AF00021XXX so which month my interview will be? is it earlier or late months.

May 19, 2017 at 10:56
Hi, just wanted to ask.. is there any problem if I start preparing all my documents for interview now?
For example Police Certificate – Criminal Record is valid for one year since it is issued. (this information is stated on their official government website) My DV number is DV2018000015xx, so I am sure I will go for VISA interview much sooner than Police Certificate gonna be expired. I think I should go for interview already in October.
I lived in three countries in last couple of years, so it means 3x Police Certificate. Don’t want leave it in last minute.
Are there any other documents which have time limited validity? Or any other reason why they shouldn’t be prepared and translated now?
With translation should not be any problem neither.. it does’t matter if it was translated few days ago or few months ago. Am I right? Thank you for reply.
May 19, 2017 at 10:59
Other documents can be prepared now, but for your police certs, wait until nearer the time.
May 19, 2017 at 10:57
Hello sir, I made a mistake and didn’t indicate that I have a degree on the eDV form, my highest education on the eDV form is a high school diploma. Can I mention my degree in my form ds260?
My second question is that I had a child and married after filling the eDV form, do I need to fill separate DS260 forms for my wife and children or I can just mention them on my form.
May 19, 2017 at 11:01
1. Yes
2. If they want Green Cards you complete a DS260 for each of them (and list them on yours)
May 19, 2017 at 10:59
I mean separate form for my wife and children not children. Thanks
May 19, 2017 at 13:51
Hi Simon,
Thanks for all the great work you are doing with this site 🙂
I am filing for an Adjustment of Status after winning the 2016 DV lottery.
Filed my i485 in February and completed my Biometrics in March.
My processing office is New York City – NY
Haven’t heard anything since completing the Biometrics, so I called USCIS. The initial phone calls misinformed me, advising that it will still take 10 months to complete. I eventually got through to a higher level consultant that said that was incorrect.
She informed me that my case file is currently with Lee Summit Missouri and that I should just wait and if I still don’t hear anything by July/August, that I should call back then.
At this point, I’m looking to book an infopass appointment.
Just wanted to get your advice on this and if there is anything you think I can do to speed up the interview process?
Thank you!
Steve
May 19, 2017 at 14:25
INfopass is what I would have said. I assume you know about the thread below – Sm1sMom is the best AOS expert.
http://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2017-aos-only.331328/
May 19, 2017 at 16:27
Thanks! I have had a look at the spreadsheet and I see there are 2 other people that have New York City as their field office. User names Jan2017 and H&M 191. Just like me, they have had their Biometrics done, but have not entered in an interview date. I wonder if I could connect with them somehow and check if they have also attended an INfopass session…
May 19, 2017 at 18:35
In general NY FO seems to batch up the DV cases. I went through a similar experience myself in SF office. You can nudge them along somewhat with Infopasses, but if they decide they want to do all the DV interviews in September, that is what they will do. My own case was current in June, filed early, totally ready in July (from memory) and then I was told in an infopass I would be interviewed in September. I knew my stuff, I chased well and I was determined, but in the end they dug their heels in and gave me a September interview (at 7:40am on the first working day of September). In other words – they stuck to their guns and made it clear that they decided it was September, and that was their prerogative.
So – I guess I am saying this. Chase by all means, but don’t panic, and accept that they will do it within the fiscal year as it suits them, not you.

Got it Simon, great advice. Thank you very much 🙂

2. Yes. Relax and be patient.
May 19, 2017 at 14:12
Dear Simon,
in the last three years i have traveled to three countries to accomplish my my company assignments and i have stayed in each countries from four to seven days a maximum when i went there one time each. So would this have a problem because when i fill the form i didn’t find a part asking about traveling history?
Regards
May 19, 2017 at 14:21
It shouldn’t be a problem, but if you have not been scheduled for interview, unlock and correct the DS260.
May 19, 2017 at 19:30
Thank you the answer, but which part of the DS 260 part ? as i didn’t leaved in these places and don’t know the street address honestly and even i forget-ed the hotel names i have stayed for few days, i can only know the name of the companies and workshops i have attended. in addition cant update my DS 260 form.\ know what shall i do in passport all the travel history is there?
May 19, 2017 at 19:41
This is about travel history – not addresses.
May 19, 2017 at 19:48
Dear Simon,
which part DS 260 form asks about travel history?
May 19, 2017 at 20:12
Take a look and see
May 19, 2017 at 14:59
Hi Brit,
I know you answered one previous question with a link but maybe I didn’t ask the right question as I can’t find the answer in your pre-prepared materials.
I am anticipating my number to come up and visa interview in November 2017. I just want to get a clear picture of the timeline (currently hashing out details with my employer).
If at interview I’m approved I’ll be quickly given a visa stamp / DV-1 visa, at which point I can enter the US again.
Does this give me immediate work authorization, or do I have to wait until I have the green card in hand to begin working again? It should be a pretty straightforward process as I have had multiple visas and jobs here, I have a SSN etc.
So, would I be correct in thinking I could have work authorization as soon as November / December or am I misunderstanding the various processing steps?
May 19, 2017 at 17:40
I gave you the link before because you seemed a little confused and needed the basics. Your earlier message mentioned November 2018. You now are mentioning November 2017, so that makes more sense – and I see an earlier post where you mention case numberEU12XXX, so your case number should be referred to as 2018EU12XXX.
So – let’s say you get a November interview (which you should understand from the basic questions link, means DS260 is processed AND the case number is current). If you are approved at the interview (consular processing), you typically get your passport back within a week or so, and could enter the USA the next day. You are immediately authorized to take employment. You don’t need any EAD etc. Your existing SSN would not change – but you would visit the SSA office to get a new card.
May 19, 2017 at 16:01
Hi Brit,
I have case number OC4XX (high 400s). Do you think this is this a ‘safe’ number for DV2018?
Thanks,
SImon
May 19, 2017 at 18:08
Yes
May 19, 2017 at 18:03
Hi Simon on the DS 260 form on the Getting started part instruction number 6 ….mail important civil documents to NVC. Do that mean email?? Thanks!
May 19, 2017 at 18:40
If this is a DV lottery case you don’t mail/email documents to NVC.
May 19, 2017 at 20:18
Hello simon, I have a reckless driving ticket which is misdemeanor. Should answer yes to the question if I have been convicted of a crime in the ds 260 from ? Also after my student status in the us was terminated I left the country before 5 months to get a 1 year ban . Does it mean i stay unlawful in the US? Thanks
May 19, 2017 at 20:29

Hi Sir I’m just checking. I’ve paid my fees and I’m about to travel to activate my visa. Can we, my husband and I and my young daughter apply for social security online? do they have to see all three of us in person?
May 19, 2017 at 22:57
You normally visit the SSA in person *IF* you did not selected the option in the DS260 to have the application performed for you.
May 19, 2017 at 23:12
Oh I may have done that but I’m not sure. How would I know exactly?
May 20, 2017 at 02:59
Check your ds260

May 20, 2017 at 03:01
You can change your address online BUT you should have changed it at the airport, so the sun and GC might go to that other address.
May 20, 2017 at 06:38

Hello Simon , i am actually in the US with a student visa since two years now . so in the DS260 i am a bit confused with these question as follows:

2) Were you issued an Alien Registration Number by the Department of Homeland Security? Error
Yes No
Provide information on your last five U.S. visits:
Date Arrived Error
(Format: DD-MMM-YYYY)

May 20, 2017 at 06:56
HI Sir,
my wife was selected for the dv 2018.
We complete the DS-260 form but at the moment to sign the system gave this error
“the case number you entered does not match the case number that you entered at Sign In.”
What we have to do?we have to write to KCC?
Thanks

May 20, 2017 at 08:55
Hi,
I am dv2017 winner in europe region.
What is the latest time I can submit the ds260 form and have an interview?
Thanks.
May 20, 2017 at 14:17
Processing time of DS260’s vary. If I were you I would submit it now. You are already at risk of missing an interview
May 20, 2017 at 08:59
Hi Simon , was on DS 260,what if my mailing address is different from my current address, for which address is the column down projected? (I saw your guide it is only for yes part)thanks! Which one is among the three?
1.mailing address of entry form
2.mailing address of USA petitioner or
3.present address
May 20, 2017 at 14:15
I don’t understand the question. Just follow the instructions.
May 20, 2017 at 09:15
hi Simon
when I applied, I uploaded a picture in white and black mode modified by Photoshop ( I mean I have changed the background to white color ) and I was smiling ! but the system accepted it .. and I have been selected so do you think they will deny me because of it in the interview !? is it a big problem ?
I can send it to you by email if you want to check it
please answer me honestly
May 20, 2017 at 14:13
I cannot predict what the CO will do in that case.
May 21, 2017 at 02:14
1. is that mean there is a high chance to be denied in the interview because of that?
2. What do you advise me to do in the interview to pass this ?
Thank you again Simon 🙂
May 21, 2017 at 18:07
1. A chance – I didn’t say “high” chance.
2. You cannot change anything.
May 21, 2017 at 19:28
So you seem know some cases had been denied because of some photos disqualifications like mine? (Black and white mode or gray mode and smiling)
May 21, 2017 at 20:11
I have known cases be refused over photos. I don’t think smiling would cause denial, but since the easiest and first instruction was to use a color photo – there is obviously risk for your case.
May 20, 2017 at 09:27
Hi Simon,
I’m wondering if you have any knowledge of the following: does the KCC process DS-260 forms according to case number (in a region) once received, or do they process according to the order in which they’ve been received? For example, if OC1, OC3, OC2 are received in that order, will the KCC reorder as OC1, OC2, OC3 and process as such, or do they process in the sequence in which they’re received?
Also, if, say, OC500 to OC1000 have been sitting in the queue for two months and OC499 turns up, would OC499 be processed before OC500?
Thank you for your help. I’m trying to figure out some timing issues on my end.
Kind regards,
Simon

Hi Brit,
I had interview in US consulate in Sydney on May-9 and My case was approved by case officer. It was supposed to receive my visa after few days BUT I didn’t get it yet. My status on Ceac has been changed to AP. Even one day it was changed to “Transfer in Progress” . Do you know what is going on?
PS: my case was transferred from ABUDHABI to SYDNEY as my request
May 20, 2017 at 14:04
No – I don’t know what is going on. Patience.
May 20, 2017 at 11:19
Hi,
Before attending my interview in two days’ time (EU) I have to arrange passport delivery with TNT here: http://ustraveldocs.com
My question is – as a primary applicant should I create only one account and provide my derivatives’ details along with mine (that is what I did so far), or should I create three separate accounts for myself (DV1 – Diversity Immigrant), my spouse (DV2 – Spouse of DV1) and child (DV3 – Child of DV1) and therefore arrange three deliveries separately?
I wish to claim all the passports simultaneously, if possible.
There is very limited information on the Internet concerning this matter.
I wanted to check with you in order to avoid unnecessary delays.
Thank you!
May 20, 2017 at 14:03
I don’t know their system. Use you own judgement.
May 20, 2017 at 11:59

Hi Brit,am a 2017 DV winner I just filled my DS 260 form but when I tried to sign and submit am told the case number is not the same that I sign in with to access my case so for that reason my form cannot be sign and submitted and that’s the same case # I don’t know why am told that. What the way forward that I can submit.
Secondly,my case # is 2017AF000223** due to some documentation I needed I couldn’t submit early so am submitting this month. Is it possible that I be scheduled for an interview?
Thanks

Timeline is fine.
May 20, 2017 at 12:45
Dear Brit,
I’ve just discovered that I’m a DV2018 selectee, and that the DV2018 DS-260 process has been going on for about a month now. I have, from what I can tell, a low-to-moderate (?) case number (OC400s).
Do you think, given the degree of over-selection this year, that I have left it too late to submit my DS-260 for an early interview?
Cheers – you run a fantastic site!
-Lucas
May 20, 2017 at 13:51
You are not too late at all – and don’t worry about “early”. Just submit, and you’ll be fine – read my guide above and see the link to the DS260 guide.

I hold a masters degree. Do I need to provide diplomas and transcripts of undergraduate and high school studies as well? If yes, originals or legalized copies of each degree? And if yes, diplomas only or transcripts as well?
May 20, 2017 at 13:49
Provide proof of all education. Originals and copies of diplomas. Legalized or not depends on procedures in your country.

Hello BritSimon,
1) I’d like your advice please regarding the vaccination question in the ds260. I’ve read through your ‘how to fill in’ section that you advise ‘No’, but I’ve read elsewhere that we should be saying ‘Yes’ since everything will have been taken care of by the interview stage. I’ve contacted the KCC (second time now), but haven’t heard back yet.
2) Also, regarding previous addresses, I’ve lost track of the specifics of some of my previous residences (like apartment numbers) but can give street numbers and dates (to the best of my ability). Should I submit the form as is in this regard, or is it worth digging round for the extra info (seeing as the document has to be accurate). I’m just trying to balance accuracy (that can be fixed at interview) and time to submission.
3) I’ve put down a hotel address for ‘Where do you intend to live in the United States?’ Is this okay, or do they require a fixed abode? I know it’s where they intend to send the green card and that the address can be changed up to POE, but I’ve also heard that the KCC doesn’t accept hotel addresses. The problem is that I have no one in the US from whom to use an address.
4) Under employment, I’ve put down that I’m self-employed, but unlike salaried jobs, there’s no one to use as a referee. Will I need to supply anything in particular (e.g. documentation confirming the existence of the business / business number)? Would this hold up the processing of the application?
Thank you – I know this is a lot and you work very hard to help people on this site.
Much appreciated,
Dorothy

1. My recommendation is correct – but answering yes won’t cause disqualification.
2. Best of your ability.
3. It is OK for now – but MUST be changed later.
4. No and No

It would depend on the decision of the CO – I cannot predict with certainty.

Hello Simon and i appreciate your work with this page. If you have time please can you help me with something. Im a woman that won the dv lottery last year. In my application were included my husband and my son. We did the interview and me and my son took the visa but my husband had a problem with a closed case in law court since 1988 for power abuse. He is a policeman(at that time a riot in prison caused that all the guards and all the policeman to go in trial) and suffered his sentences 6 month with hard work in a mine. In our paperwork we included the court and all the paperwork. At the interview they denied his application. Can you give me some tips to what to do from here… We are feeling terrible and we really dont know what to do from here. Thank you again!
May 20, 2017 at 20:10
There really is nothing you can do as far as the DV is concerned. You could emigrate and start the life there and then hire a lawyer to start a family based sponsorship case, with a waiver – but it would be expensive and take at least two years. During that time you would have to be in the USA with your son.

Thank you Simon
– but there’s this medical and vaccination document that we should submit to the consular officer during z interview….
– One other thing..I have worked for more than a decade in the police hospital as a health professional…it it the same as military service should I say YES
May 22, 2017 at 18:10
You need to start reading the instructions and using some of your own judgment.
The medical is present during the interview.
Military is military. You should know the difference.
May 22, 2017 at 09:16
I mean…Does military service includs police officers…?
May 22, 2017 at 17:53
No
