I don’t advise on cases other than DV lottery.
June 2, 2017 at 16:10
Hi Brits,
I won Green Card Lottery in May and now I am filling the online application form. I have a question regarding to one question in the DS-260 Application form. I don’t know whether to answer “yes” or “no” for the following question:
“Are you a graduate of a foreign medical school seeking to perform medical services in the United States but have not yet passed the National Board of Medical Examiners examination or its equivalent?”
I am specialized in Doctor of Medicine graduating a university in a foreign country and I might take USMLE in future and work in USA as a doctor but for now I am not planning to take the exam and work in USA in the close future. In this case which answer should I give? And if I have to answer “yes”, explanation box opens below. What should I write in that box in case I have to choose “yes”?
I hope you will help me to clarify these questions in order to avoid any mistakes in the application form.
Thanks in advance!
Best Regards,
Ramin Shikhiyev

Whether you answer yes or no won’t affect your application – so just pick the answer that is most truthful.
May 30, 2017 at 17:18
Hello Brits. It’s me again. Please ,once you unlock your ds260 form and correct mistakes,do you sign and resubmit the form or what? I’m confused here
May 30, 2017 at 18:19
Yes STRONG TAH, you sign and submit. Nothing will change same confirmation barcode
May 30, 2017 at 22:28
Yes, you just go through the same sign/submit procedure as the first submission.

Im applying from Spain and some of my Documents are in Spanish, Ive read in some places I need to have a notory make the copy of birth certificate? Is that right or do I just take it to an official translator?
Also would I need to do this to my proof of education, spanish police certificate, vaccination proof which are stamped and handwritten medical booklets of mine as a kid? Would I need to translate my spanish passport?
Have I gone translation overboard?
Lol, I am moving to Canada on a IEC working hol so I’m trying to sort thing out before I go in case my visa proceeds as I just realised last week I got randomly selected for the diversity visa too!!! 😀 Thankyou so much if you do know the answer to my ever multiplying doubts.
May 30, 2017 at 19:13
You need to present documents in English OR the official local language in the country of the embassy where you interview. So – if you are interviewing in Madrid, you don’t need translations for Spanish documents. You will need copies however. The instructions detail all that.

Hello Brit my sis won the dv lottery and she did nt mentioned that she was married
Is there any way that she can add her husband?
May 30, 2017 at 21:42
Hi Brit.If your Visa approval is under administrative processing after your DV interview. Will the consulate informed you through status check CEAC . Telephone calls or e-mails whether it as being approved or denied .
May 30, 2017 at 23:33
It depends on the embassy how they contact you. None of them say to check CEAC for your status.
May 30, 2017 at 23:35
I already answered this.

Will the documents need to attested from foreign ministry of country
May 30, 2017 at 23:33
That depends on procedures in your country.

May 31, 2017 at 03:11
Hi Simon,
I was born in Papua New Guinea but am not/nor ever was a citizen there. I have a copy of the official hospital Birth Certificate that details parents names, date, location etc as my record.
I’ve noted that the instructions says we need the official long form certificate (of which the issuance of birth certs in PNG is only about 2 years old and at this stage, undetermined how an expat could get this) or “In these cases, please obtain a certified statement from the appropriate government authority stating the reason the applicant’s birth record is not available.”
Who would be considered an appropriate government authority? PNG are currently in elections for 2 months so it’s unlikely I could get anything before then, but am trying to find out what my options may be?
Thanks
May 31, 2017 at 06:04
I don’t know anything about documents in PNG. But read the reciprocity page for some idea.

May 31, 2017 at 03:46
Dear Brit,
I have a question about birth place ‘discrepancies’ (more like misinterpretations by bureaucracy) between birth certificates and passports. I’m an OC case (4XX).
My birth certificate says that my place of birth is “[PK] District Hospital, [Wxxx]”.
My AUS passport says place of birth = [PK].
My UK passport says place of birth = [Wxxx].
On my DS-260, I listed my place of birth as [Wxxx].
Even though [PK] is its own town, I’ve checked the address of the hospital on a government website and it reads,
[PK] Hospital
[Street]
[Wxxx] [State] [Postcode]
So, I reasoned that my AUS passport is technically incorrect.
***Do you think that I chose the right option for place of birth, or would I be better to unlock the form and change it to [PK] so that there’s no mismatch between my primary passport?***
The KCC obviously have both AUS and UK passport numbers, but the AUS number is the one on which I signed off.
Thank you – again! I did look through the site and elsewhere for answers, but couldn’t find anything that matched my situation.
Kind regards,
Simon
May 31, 2017 at 06:06
Oh man. You are overthinking this. They are just trying to check what country you were born in. Pick whatever you think matches your birth cert and move on.
May 31, 2017 at 04:06
Thx brit just one more final question while filling 260 for kids there is one question about the father place of birth where i have checked the box ‘do not know’ in the province field as the country doha qatar has no province now i realised that it would be better if i should have typed ‘does not apply ‘ in the province field so is this thing matters should i unlock my both kids form do write this

hello simon
i am a 2018 edv selectee from nepal. i have 2 questions regarding name and address.now in nepal all previous address has been changed. in this context……
1) does this create problem?which address should be mention in ds260,address which i applied on dv form or latest address?
2)in the passport of my wife ,my surname is also added but in dv form i have not mentioned my surename in wife’s name.does it make any problem?if yes then what is the solution.
i am in confusion .hope to get right suggestion from u.
May 31, 2017 at 13:23
1. Your current address. You just answer the questions honestly.
2. The form has space for the legal name (new name) and other names used (maiden name).
May 31, 2017 at 08:25
Hi, I v worked more than a year in two different countries but never stayed over a year in one entry, i did multiple entries to both of them like 3 months or 6 months of stay. Should I show these countries as lived more than a year? And should I collect police records? thanks
May 31, 2017 at 13:20
It is up to you. The CO might ask for police certs, and if you have them, it will save you time.
May 31, 2017 at 09:44
Dear Simon ,
I had my interview 22.Feb.2017.Despite I got approved my Visa Case still (3 month passed) under AP .
1. What do you think ,what can be problem and how about my chances to get visa ?
2.What about if my Medical date expires ?
I am from Azerbaijan .
Thank you in advance .
Best Regards.
May 31, 2017 at 13:12
1. I don’t know why you are on AP – some cases take a long time.
2. You would have to renew the medical.
May 31, 2017 at 13:18
Hi Brit my case number is 37xxx how long do I need to wait because I didn’t understand the graph
May 31, 2017 at 13:30
A year.
May 31, 2017 at 14:38
Hello Britsimon,
My DV visa has been approved and I am now planning my activation trip. However I am on Tier 2 working visa in the UK and it is about to expire.
Should I renew my UK visa after the activation trip, (so I can remain in the UK for a little longer to tie ends up), would that invalidate my US DV visa?
May 31, 2017 at 15:17
No. After the activation trip you are no longer on a visa – you will be a LPR (Green Card holder).
May 31, 2017 at 15:37
Thanks. So renewing my UK visa would not affect my Green Card status? I would not stay out of US longer than a year after activation trip, but I worry that my UK visa renewal may seem like I do not intend to migrate to the US. I tried researching this but have yet to find anything.
May 31, 2017 at 15:41
You won’t find anything because they are two unrelated things.
May 31, 2017 at 16:07
Hi Brit. I have been aprooved! I already have my passport with my resident visa. Now I’m planning to pay the Green card by UCSIS-ELIS system but I have some questions:
1. If I need to change my permanent adress from NJ to FL, Can I do it when I fill the form to pay the green card?
2. How long does it take to get the green card and social security card once I arrive to U.S.?
Thanks for your answers! Your blog is my path to success!
May 31, 2017 at 16:19
1. No, your last chance to change the address is at the POE (arrival airport).
2. SSN usually arrives in 2 to 3 weeks. The GC can take 3 to 4 months to arrive.
May 31, 2017 at 18:38
Thanks! It’s clear now!
May 31, 2017 at 16:18

Hello Brit,
I won the lottery this year, my case number is 2018SA13XX, i haven’t sent the DS-260 because im waiting for one of my child’s passport. I am really stress out. this take too long this days in my country we are from Venezuela. what should we do about it?. Can i sent the DS260 separately?
Thanks for your Help. God Bless you
May 31, 2017 at 17:04
Just relax. Your case number means you won’t be interviewed until about a year from now anyway – so there is no need to rush to submit your DS260 .

Hi
I’m From sudan my friend apply for lottery for my and i win but the foreign countries chargeability is UAE and i was born in Sudan and there Foreign state of chargeability name as post showing as casablanca I don’t know what that.
So how this can effects my case
May 31, 2017 at 19:47
If you were born in Sudan, you should have an AF region number. If you were charged to UAE, you would have an AS region number. If you don’t have a reason to be counted against UAE (like being married to someone from UAE), you will be denied at interview.

Hi Brit,
I am a dv lottery winner and my application has been denied 212-a-5- ( insufficient education ). The problem is that I brought my High School diploma with me to the interview. I don’t know what to do …Is there a way to appeal ?

June 1, 2017 at 07:39
Hi,
Some friends of mine living in CA initially accepted to be sponsors for me and my husband however after looking at all the forms and the confident information they needed to share, they have changed their mind. They don’t feel comfortable to do this now. This leaves me with no other option for a sponsor since we don’t have any close family living there, only few friends.
I heard that if we have sufficient money ( not sure how much) in the bank account, I would not need a sponsor.
Is this true? If true, where can I verify this information?
June 1, 2017 at 13:00
The ounts are not fix, but generally more than $10,000 per adult (a bit less for each child) is considered enough. But it varies by embassy and case.

June 1, 2017 at 12:39
I don’t know what the embassy expect from you – I assume they discussed it with you. DNA tests would be conclusive.
June 1, 2017 at 12:42
Follow the instructions provided by the embassy.

June 1, 2017 at 12:39
Completed = locked and submitted.
June 1, 2017 at 11:36
Hi Simon:
We arrived to US on 30th May to activate greencard. We landed on Oakland international airport, in California.
While the process was swift and efficient, the PoE staff mentioned that they don’t do any SSN processing and we need to apply separately.
This is in contrary to what I have seen on this forum and also what is mentioned in the SSA website iteself: https://www.ssa.gov/ssnvisa/whatyou_need.htm
Perhaps, the staff was not well-versed with the process?
As a second question, we also requested for a change of address (where gc / ssn was supposed to be sent). They noted it down in squiggly handwriting on a piece of paper.
Now, assuming that SSN would still be generated for us “automatically” based on our Yes responses to DS 260 form, will it be sent to the new address (given at PoE) or the old address (given in DS260).
Finally, As a third question, Will the SSN be generated for everyone in family (including the kids)? I think that would be the case because usually for kids born in USA, they get SSN assigned at birth through hospital paperwork.
Please let us know when you can,
Thanks.
June 1, 2017 at 12:35
1. The DHS providing your entry/status information to the SSA is automatic.
2. It should come to the new address.
3. Yes

hi i am DV 2017 winner who submitted DS 260 form for me my wife and three children on the 8th May 2017. but have observed some errors
1. in my own DS 260 form (principal Applicant) my current Address i indicated is the address in another town where i work. my wife’s address in her own form is in another town but the same country where she stays with the kids. i mistakenly indicated in my own DS 260 form that my wife’s current address is the same as mine but she visit me in the town where i work on monthly basis. at the time i was filling the DS 260 form she was with me.
2. in my wife’s DS 260 form when imputing the second phone number (secondary NUMBER) I missed the last number also in the area of previous addresses, instead of typing 2004 i typed 2012 lastly her father’s middle name was left out in her birth certificate but it was mentioned in the DS 260 form.
3. on the last page of the DS 260 form of ,my 10 month old baby, i mistakenly answered NO to the question which says if anybody helped the baby to fill her DS 260 form.
1. my question is should i unlock the three DS 260 forms for me my wife and my baby to do all the corrections
2. if yes how can i go about doing it?
3. How long will it take if i ask to unlock for kcc to do it
June 1, 2017 at 12:31

I don’t think DNA tests would have been part of a normal medical. But again – you should check with the embassy about what proof they want to see.

Hey Simon, when I first visit the USA to activate my green card, and have my adress set as relative, who will send me my documents to my homecountry, do I need to stay for very long, or I can just check in for like a week 🙂 also, do I need to apply somewhere for my SSN or they will make my SSN as requested on DS260, thanks in advance 🙂
June 1, 2017 at 17:26
You don’t need to stay long at all.
Normally the SSN is sent within 2 to 3 weeks. The GC arrives in 3 to 4 months.
June 1, 2017 at 15:58
We discovered in May 2018 that we were selected in the DV2017 we immediately filled the DS260 and sent it on May 9 2017 our case is 2017SA18XX you think that if we will have time for the interview in the status appears AT NVC at Embassy of Venezuela
June 1, 2017 at 17:31
You should be able to get an interview, yes.

Hi Brit
Thanks for all you do in helping everyone.. God bless !
I am a Dv 2018 winner… i’ve filled in my DS 260 form already and submitted it May 15th. However,I won the DV in Morocco after which I wrote Kcc informing them about my change of location to my country after graduation and was instructed by Kcc to update my current address when filling in Ds 260 which i did but notice something recently that I don’t understand and now I’m worrying.
filling in my address during the DS260 I mention my address like this “Yeakpee town oldest Congo town -paynesville Monrovia,Liberia ” but I had to renew my passport while filling in the From I mention the same address… but the foreign ministry of Liberia passport department only mention “Congo town ” was there today to ask and was told isn’t necessary to write the entire address stating “Congo Town ” summarized everything…here’s my question.
Will it cause problems during my interview ?
Thanks.
June 1, 2017 at 17:49
No.

hi Britsimon,
I am a DV2018 winner from Ghana, i submitted my DS-260 form weeks ago. My passport and all other documents bears my name in the order Surname-Firstname-Middlename.
But i just realize my name on my senior high school certificate beats my name in the order
Middlename-Firstname-Surname. Please Will this cause a problem at the interview?
June 1, 2017 at 21:26
At most embassies, that would not be a problem. In Ghana it might be, especially if there are other small issues which add up to “suspicion” for the CO at the interview.

KCC new rule on the change of starter is to scan the wedding certificate to (KCC) link. But is it advisable that I scan the wedding certificate attach with photos before the Marriage and after the Marriage and other documents for the marriage? Brit..my big brother won the 2017 DV as single. He wrote KCC and inform them that his starter had been change and he added his spouse to the program and it was excepted by KCC.But after he and his wife when through all the required step they were denied on ground that KCC never file their information to the Embassy telling them his starter had been change. According to my brother he show the CO the notification letter that was given to them by KCC ,but the CO did not give them the second chance. As for me I really want to know if it is possible for KCC not to file in their Change of starter to the Embassy after they had written KCC and was also accepted by KCC.

Your brother was responsible to make changes in the DS260. Informing KCC was not the whole task.

Hello Brit,
We had our interview on 16 May,
Visa was approved and we were told to pickup our passport the following week, May 23.
When we went to pickup the passport, it was returned to us without visa. But they kept the documents.
No 221g was given.
When I asked the guy, why are you returning our passports? He said that the CO asked to return our passports and that they are going to get back to us.
And since then our case status remains READY.
My question is: have we been put on administrative process without giving us 221g?
Is the status ready an administrative process?
Please help with some clarification. I’m really confused right now.
Thanks

I don’t know. Ready does not mean AP – BUT they might simply have not updated the status. Only the embassy can tell you.
