Hi Simon,
I am a selectee of DV-2018 program. When I sent DS-260 Form
I didn’t mentioned there, that I have been in Italy (legally) for about
3,5 months. Because I judged that is a short stay journey.
Can be a problem this detail, during my interview on the Embassy?
Cheers

Dear Simon ,
As I said before my case under AP till 22.Feb.2017. Can it make another problem or delay if I will ask my passport for 15 day ? because I need to travel to another country
Thanks
June 9, 2017 at 14:31
If your AP finishes when they don’t have your passport, there will be another small delay for them to contact you to get your passport.
June 10, 2017 at 14:05
Thanks you for your reply ,so it means it will not impact on my visa case that under AP . right ? And when they will get my passport ,they can stamp on my passport, right ?

Hi Brit,
I am frank, please I and my wife got married in august,19 last year. A month after, we got to no that she has been selected as dv lottery applicant in the 2015 – 2016. so she attached I when filling the DS 260 as legally married husband. In february this year, we had our first born baby boy so she filled the IV FORM to add the newly born baby. We were invited for the interview this year april and we were refused on the basis that we are not legally married couple.
QUESTION:
Can I take a legal action since our marriage is a legal one?
June 9, 2017 at 14:35
“Legal action”, no. You have no “rights” of immigration to the USA, nor is there an appeal process. However, you must have failed to follow the process correctly or failed to provide proof of your legal marriage at the interview. If you have some documents you did not show in the interview, you could contact the embassy and ASK them to review those documents and your case. They might do that (but are not obligated to do so).
June 9, 2017 at 16:32
Thanks Brit.
Please every documents that shows that we are legally married was sent to the embassy. But the consular told my wife and I that she suspects our marriage is not real and even though we have answered all the questions correctly she thinks we rehearsed the answers. That’s what the consular told us.
Do we have right to review the case?
June 10, 2017 at 14:48
As I already explained you have no “right”. It sounds like they made their final decision. Follow the instruction I mentioned before.
June 9, 2017 at 15:42
Hello dear Simon.
My wife won lottery.
Her name is Fazloati on passport and all other documents.
But in dv lottery selection is Fazolat
There is “i” missing
We missed it when we were filling it up.
What should i do?
Are we going to get deny? Is there any problem?
Is anyone happened to be in the same situation? Please help.
Thanks
June 10, 2017 at 14:53
Just enter the name correctly in the DS260 – and all should be OK.
June 9, 2017 at 16:31

Hey Simon, hope your having a nice day.
My visa has been issued on the 24th of last month and since then am trying to log into the USCIS site to check paying options and change my address but ever since then it has been giving me an error msg saying that you have to wait for five days but it has been well over a month.

got any advice for me :)?
Thanks in advance Simon!
June 10, 2017 at 14:37
Pay it nearer your travel date or even after entry to the USA.

June 11, 2017 at 11:30
Hi Brit, thanks for your good work. My question is simple.
When a dv 2018 selectee with a high case number AF20××× fills and submit the DS 260 early in May, Will his case be processed early?
June 11, 2017 at 15:07
No. By case number.
June 10, 2017 at 07:33
Mr Simon… When will you post the numbers of selectees of the dv lottery 2018??

June 10, 2017 at 08:11
Please HELP!
1- I have lived in my current address since I was born, at the “Started Living Here”, should I put my Birthday date or the date I turned 16 years old?
2-In my passport my birthplace Is “X”, but in my Birthcertificate is “Y”. What should I use?
3-At the school name should I write it in the native language or in English?
June 10, 2017 at 14:22
1. Birthdate.
2. Birth cert
3. Native.
June 10, 2017 at 10:05
Dear Simon,
Thanks a lot for your gear assistant to the DV winner, and highly appreciated.
i have one question that my son was born in country differ than our mother country, but as per our country low they did not mention that country, they mentioned in his passport and civil documents our mother country. now in his birth certificate is mentioned his born country. What should i follow passport information or his birth certificate information regrading country of birth.
Thank you in advance.
June 10, 2017 at 14:15
I don’t understand why the passport and birth cert don’t agree. You have to show the birth cert to get the passport – right?
Anyway – I would enter what you know to be correct. THe passport might need to be corrected.
June 10, 2017 at 14:23
thanks a lot for your quick help, but it is as per our country law, even i renewed my son passport but they kept birth country as mother country. moreover i got certified copy from my son birth certificate from the consulate. so kindly advise me should i follow passport information as official document and at the time of interview i will explain to CO the situation, is it ok?
June 10, 2017 at 14:59
You can explain. Because it is about a child it won’t be a problem.
June 10, 2017 at 15:13
Many thanks dear Simon, highly appreciated.
But in comments above, that you advised the person above to follow birth certificate. Soi will follow birth certificate
information as you recommended above,is it OK? Actually i got confused that what should i follow?
Thank you in advance.
June 10, 2017 at 16:35
Birth cert is fine – but you may have to explain or discuss with the CO. RELAX!
June 10, 2017 at 10:51
During DS-260 Sign and submitting form I saw one letter that is called ” Selective Service System”, and you can’t submit your form until you download it. So what is that letter is? I have download it says
“If you are a man and are between 18 and 26 years old when you enter the United States, you must register with the U.S. Selective Service System within 30 days after you enter the United States. If you are required to register, do so promptly. You cannot register after you reach age 26. Registration is for conscription into military service in an emergency mobilization of the armed forces. There is no conscription at this time”
1. What is this letter is?
2. does it have a value for me?
June 10, 2017 at 14:13
1. You just have to click the link and read about selective service (which is your agreement to be called into the military if the country ever needs that)
2. You can’t submit your form without reading the link. So do that!
June 10, 2017 at 15:08
I read it and I submit my form. But this letter is only for reading agreement just Nothing else? am I right?
June 10, 2017 at 16:34
Yes.
Once you enter the USA you complete a selective service form online.
June 10, 2017 at 11:01

June 10, 2017 at 13:06
Hi Brit
**Edited**
June 10, 2017 at 14:05
I edited your comment because I don’t want to encourage people to do unwise things.
I think the answer to your question is obvious – one embassy did not communicate with the other. I suspect there was some reason for that, but don’t want to discuss it further.
June 10, 2017 at 14:55

Hi there!
I am a 2017 DV selectee and my visa interview was scheduled on January 10, 2017 02:00 PM. I failed to attend it, but I regret it now. Is there any solution? Can I write to the Kentucky Consular Office and ask them if they can give me another chance?
June 10, 2017 at 18:04
KCC have passed your case to the embassy. Contact the embassy.
June 10, 2017 at 19:20
ON DS 26O?
Hi simon sorry for bothering you, the question about are you a medical doctor of foreign country…It is disturbing me why do they specifically ask about it? Simply need your insight….(am MD),Thanks with respect.
June 11, 2017 at 15:50
The DS260 form is used for other cases, some of which might need an accurate answer to check medical qualifications etc. Don’t overthink it. Just answer correctly.
June 10, 2017 at 19:33
Hi Simon,
Im Dora from Hungary. I was selected for DV2018. Could you please help me with one question.
To begin with i particaped in Work and Travel programme in the past 3 summers. I worked 3 months and travelled 1-2 weeks then i came home. So i never stayed there too long. My question is : are you a former Exchange visitor J1 who has not yet fulfilled the two-year foreign residence requirement?
So in my passport the visa says “2 year rule doesnt apply to Hungary”.
Am i supposed to circle yes or no in the form?
Thank you so much for your help!
All the best,
Dori

June 10, 2017 at 21:57
Good day dear Brit,
One of the DV 2018 winners is a level-one 2014/2015 student in Yemeni Police College of Aviation; but the college had stopped all its activities; because of war in Yemen since March 27th ,2015 till now. Should he mention that in his DS-260 and prepare ( Clearance/Discharge paper ) or ( Status Statement Paper ) from college ?! Or no need for mentioning that in his DS-260 at all since it is a one-year study without any certificate ?!
June 11, 2017 at 15:45
List it accurately.
June 10, 2017 at 23:09
what do you mean ap WHAT HAPPENED IF THE ORIGINAL ENTRY DEGREE AND DONT END UNIVERSITY ,. IT IS END SEPTEMPER 2017
June 11, 2017 at 15:44
No DV2017 cases will be approved after September 2017.
June 11, 2017 at 01:12
hi
am a dv 2018 winner for further processing, am divorced with one child who lives with his mom, the reason i added him in dv application because it is a must to mention that i have a child, my question is can i go through the process just by myself and not include him in the GC process? Thank you
June 11, 2017 at 01:17
one more question sorry it skipped my mind the first time:
if my interview will be held in a country (my country) and now am residing in a different country for work, can i translate all my documents from translators of where i am living now which is not the same country the interview will be held in? thank you in advance
June 11, 2017 at 15:42
Documents should be in English, OR the official language of the interview embassy.
June 11, 2017 at 15:43
Yes. You listed him correctly and will list the child on your DS260, but not create a DS260 for the child.
June 11, 2017 at 02:39
Hi Brit,
My sister (married woman) got a dv lottery of 2018 as a single because she had problem with her husband. But she got divorce after getting lottery. Now, the question is can she eligible to get second letter or other processes with her new husband?
June 11, 2017 at 15:40
She should be disqualified for entering as single when she was actually married.
June 11, 2017 at 04:14
Hello Brit,
My family and I were selected on the Diversity Visa Lottery DV-2017, We have submitted Ours DS-260, but my child was 19 years old and about to be 20 yeas old when I applied at the end of 2015 to the DV program. I read That period should be subtracted from the derivative alien’s age on the date the visa became available to the principal alien, so that means that the extra time is the period of time between the first day that entry begins and the day that winners are announced, so For DV2017 the dates are October 1, 2015 and May 3, 2016 – a gap of 215 days, and My child’s 21st birthday was on October 14th, it means that he had till May 17 for our case to become current, right? If it is like that, in Visa bulletin for may 2017, that was realeased in mid April, our case became current, so he should still have a chance to get a DV visa or there is non chance?
Your comments on the above, will be highly appreciated.
Best Regards
June 11, 2017 at 15:38
Your child would have needed to have been interviewed in May (which should have been possible if you had submitted your DS260 early enough. Now, there is no chance. You son
June 11, 2017 at 17:25
Thanks, can my wife and I still get the visa? Should my son go to the interview too?
June 11, 2017 at 17:42
You and your wife will be unaffected. Your son could go to the interview, but the outcome is certain. You will have to decide what to do, as your son will not be able to join you for many years (unless he gets his own visa such as a student or work visa).
June 11, 2017 at 18:13
Ok, thank you, if we get the visa and we become permanent residents were thinking about bringing him as our son and no as a child or also what you suggest, request a student visa. As he can not get the visa, I have a last question, do we still have to pay for his fee or not?
June 11, 2017 at 04:25
What does reciprocity mean for police certificates? And where can I find information about that?
Thank you.
June 11, 2017 at 15:21
The reciprocity page gives instructions for each country. That is found by going through the dvselectee instructions.
June 11, 2017 at 06:47
Thanks for putting us through, my case No is 35000 and i wanT to submit as early as possible to increase my chances since delay is a factor, but i haven not done my passport yet, can i submit DS260 without my passport to increase my chances and later do it
June 11, 2017 at 15:20
Yes, but submitting early doesn’t increase your chances or speed things up.
June 11, 2017 at 07:53
Hello brit. My cousin made a mistake in submiting my edv and am a winner in 2018 dv lottery. After i won i find out that my first name has become my last name. Please is there anything i can do to correct that or i should let it go. Thank you.
June 11, 2017 at 15:18
It is a risk. But if you want to proceed make sure it is corrected on the DS260.
June 11, 2017 at 09:23
Hi Brit, I have a question. When I summited my D260, I typed the passport number: n**** instead of N******. So, the difference is only the small and capital letter. Is that ok? Or I have to unlock my case.
June 11, 2017 at 15:14
No problem.
June 11, 2017 at 10:36
Hi Simon,
please can you tell me all vaccination are necessary to pass through interview?
This is the list of vacinnation from offical website:
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis B
Influenza
Influenza type b (Hib)
Measles
Meningococcal
Mumps
Pneumococcal
Pertussis
Polio
Rotavirus
Rubella
Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids
Varicella
I have most of them but when I went to speak with doctor which is doing just vaccination he told me that he never seen anybody to do all of them. He said that I should have just those basic one. He even said that even some of them are seasonal vaccination. These seasonal vaccination shouldn’t be required from me to have it done any different time than just in the season.
This is the list of those which I don’t have and don’t know if I have to do that.
Influenza
Influenza type b (Hib)
Pneumococcal
Rotavirus
+ Varicella – I didn’t get vaccination for this, but when I was kid I already had this dissease. And you can’t get it another time. So should be enough just confirmation from my doctor that I had already this disease and I don’t need this vaccination?
Thank you very much for your reply.
June 11, 2017 at 15:10
The panel physician decides what vaccinations are required.
June 11, 2017 at 10:42
Brit please if your hepatic B will it affect your visa

June 11, 2017 at 12:59

June 11, 2017 at 15:04
Contact the embassy to correct it.
June 11, 2017 at 13:49
Hi Simon
What is the reason for AP cases and at most 90% of Ap cases are denied isn’t that correct?
And
2.dv2018 process will not start until October 1st or is there a possibility of some people getting interview before that time?
June 11, 2017 at 15:04
1. Reason for AP varies and no, your denial numbers are incorrect.
2. October 1
June 11, 2017 at 16:51

Dear Simon,
Thanks for your sincere cooperation . I have some few questions which I try to get an answer by following your blog and FAQ but I failed to get an answer to similar questions. Kindly respond to the following questions at earliest time convenient for you.
1) can I submit DS- 260 ,as I am a Principal applicant and my spouse both having passport but our kids doesn’t have passport at the time of submission.
2) since the ID type in the form have two option to choose *Passport and Travel document. What can I fill for the kids when I fill the ID Type to indicate their passport will be presented at the time of interview?
3) should the police record or certificate indicate over all period of time you have resided or last six month prior to the interview?
Regards!

1. Yes – submit the kids DS260 with the parents passport number – then change that later when you have their passport.
2. See 1
3. Read the instructions.

If my case number low enough to be on first two months interviews per region , it is applicable for the country also since interviews are scheduled per case numbers at the end, right?
June 11, 2017 at 19:31
I don’t understand the question. All interviews are by case number.
June 11, 2017 at 19:45
If my case number AS000018XX it is safe per region but for country does this cosnidered safe too?

Hi Simon,
i’ve been selected on the 2018 dv the only problem is that my city of birth is different between my passport and my birth certificate (only the city but the country is the same) because of a fault that been made by my government years ago .
when i fill the dv lottery (in october 2016) i put the same birth city as in the passport and i did the same in the ds 260 ……….. but i’m afraid that i’ll have problem in the interview or get disqualified (since the birth city from the birth certificate and the high school degree are different than that in the passport)
what do you advise me to do ….

Relax – it isn’t a problem.
