HI Brit one more question: My current address is the place i born and lived up to 16 then i move to other place but in the same country and live there for about 5 years and come back to my home town a year ago. My question is:
1. On DS 260 form on present and previous address info : on start living date option, shall i fill the day i born or shall i fill the day i come back to my home town after 16.
2. Do i need to present for police certificate from both places which are in the same county.
June 12, 2017 at 00:16
1. You can make a choice. Really.
2. Read the instructions about police certs in that country.
June 12, 2017 at 08:04
Hi AKE just one police certificate from “dehininet biro” located at the back of Immigration office in Addis.
June 11, 2017 at 21:17
As he can not get the visa, I have a last question, do we still have to pay for his fee or not?
Thank you!
June 12, 2017 at 00:16
If you take him to the interview you might have to pay, only then to have him refused.
June 12, 2017 at 01:15
Hello, Britsimon.
I am DV-2018 selectee and my case number is EU17***. I’m currently in the US on F1 Visa. So I’ve decided to go with CP in my country better. I looked at Visa bulletin for previous years and figured out that my CN usually becomes current in February. I am about to submit DS-260 as well (I hope it’s not late).
My question is what is the best time to return to my country for CP? I would like to be in the US as long as possible and don’t want to be late for interview. If my CN becomes current in February usually, should I be in my country one or two months before interview, something like that?
Thank you so much in advance for your response and time spending!
June 12, 2017 at 01:24
You need to be in country a couple of weeks before the interview.
June 12, 2017 at 01:27
It should be enough time to do medical exam and other documentation? As I understand I will receive 2 NL which will tell me the date of the interview. Is that right?
Thank you for your help!
June 12, 2017 at 01:30
Yes and yes.
June 12, 2017 at 02:43

June 12, 2017 at 02:47
On the last page before submitting there is a link about selective service – click the link, and then you can submit.
June 12, 2017 at 04:02

June 12, 2017 at 05:15
Hello!
I am from Uzbekistan.
I was selected for DV2017. my case number is 2017EU00015 ***. I haven’t been invited for interview for still.
And now there were laid out a visa for the Uzbekistan limites for up to 13300 case in August .
What does it mean?
can I hope to be invited for interview and receive VISA or not?
Is the meaning of hope or not?
June 12, 2017 at 14:22
The 13300 limit could mean they are close to hitting the 7% limit. All you can do is wait and see what happens in the next (final) VB.
June 12, 2017 at 07:07
IT I WILL BE DIFFERENT WITH MY DS260 AND WOULD THAT CREATE A PROBLEM?
June 12, 2017 at 14:24

June 12, 2017 at 07:17
Dear Mr Birt Simon, 10 of may 2017 we have interview but unfortunately was refusedd .I did not include to the my initial application husband’s daughter from his first marriage (under section 212(a)(5)(A) of Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Did not include all of your pre-existing children in the initial DV entry.) Also my attorneys in US contacted with consular but they also could not do anything. if there is anything can we do please tell us. Maybe still we have a chance to do something. Thanks.
June 12, 2017 at 14:16
This case was always going to be refused. That was certain from the beginning and the instructions are quite clear about that. There is nothing to do.

June 12, 2017 at 10:18
Hi BritSimon. I am almost finished the comprehensive ds-260 but had a question about dates (e.g. for school attendance). They seek dd-mm-yyyy. However, I do not recall the exact day I started high school- I know the month and year. Is it a problem to leave the DD (day) blank?
June 12, 2017 at 14:09
choose 01 for the day.
June 12, 2017 at 11:16
hi Simon please help i dont remember the email i used when i played the dv lottery and the email i used to submit ds260 but i have all other details like case number etc. now i need to edit the ds260 forms,

June 12, 2017 at 12:01
finalising my paperwork; To the question under “Security and Background Information” section;
“Do you have documentation to establish that you have received vaccinations in accordance with U.S. law?”
1) Is this in reference to the medical you need to provide at the time of interview?
2) What is best to write here?
– Yes (and just have all your medical done by the time of IV)
– No [And under explain] write that you are currently undergoing and will provide at/when IV is granted?
Thanks so much, Love your site! Its helped me out soooo much!
June 12, 2017 at 14:04
1. Yes
2. “No” – and you’ll have them at the medical.
June 12, 2017 at 17:01
Dear Simon,
I have already submitted DS-260 and answered “YES” but actually I don’t have such documentation.
1. In this case, should I unlock and correct it?
2. Or, it is safe or immaterial and let it be as it is. Ultimately, in Interview time, the documentation will be with me.
Thank you for your support
June 12, 2017 at 18:22
1. No need.
2. It is not important.
June 12, 2017 at 18:46
Thank you very much…
June 12, 2017 at 12:33
Dear brit, i have seen one mistake in my ds260 after an interview and my visa was approved and put under AP. during my interview address change I only changed the address and country but forgot how long i have been living there. Keeping the already written date that was from when i was born and was ok to my country of birth . So I took with interview the bolice clearance from my country of birth . During the interview i was told no document missing or wrong. So my question is may that be the reason for long time AP?
Thanks
June 12, 2017 at 14:03
Possibly.
June 13, 2017 at 10:33
Thanks then how can i correct that will I wait until they send me the other police clearance
June 13, 2017 at 13:43
Now you just have to wait. You can’t do anything.
June 12, 2017 at 13:06

Hello Brit, my father won the dv. And only my mother and me can come with him to US. My question is if we got the green card after a month, can we bring another family member, whose age is 27? If we can’t, then how long will take for her to come to US?
June 12, 2017 at 14:00
It will take several years.
June 12, 2017 at 13:35
Hi Simon, how’re you doing? This is a question for you:
I’m an Ethiopian and a dv winner of 2018. I’m a business man, importing cars from different countries. A year ago I got a trouble and arrested in Dubai prison. (suddenly a kind of fighting with some guys.) I’ll be released after two months. When I read a dv requirements, any one should be free from any crime. So, what shall I do?
Regards!
June 12, 2017 at 13:58
Only certain crimes are a problem for the DV immigration process. Yours isn’t. So – be honest, and you should be OK.
June 12, 2017 at 14:35
Hi Brit
My name is Karim FXXX. I mistakenly played my DV lottery under Finland. I Just check my result in Guinea Bissau, i won. My question is, can i attend my interview here in Guinea Bissau? My case number is 2017EU00003XXX.
Thanks in advance for your support.
June 12, 2017 at 17:11
There is no point in continuing the process, you will be disqualified and will lose any fees paid by that time.
Because you applied under Finland, you have an EU case number (which I edited for your privacy), and should instead have an AF number. In these circumstances, unless you have reason to be charged to Finland (like you were married to someone from Finland at the time of the DV entry), the embassy have **no choice** except to refuse you.
June 12, 2017 at 15:00
Hi Simon,
I’m a Selectee of DV2018. I have been in UK about
5 years ago via a Valid Visa. Unfortunately my visa
expired and I was an OverStayer. For my personal
circumstances I cannot left UK. After 9 months that
my Visa was expired, occasionally the Police caught me.
After the verification of the FingerPrints they found
that I was an OverStayer. The Officers said :
You do not have problems with the UK Police, but
you will continue to deal with the Immigration.
After 3 months in Detention Center (this time
was necessary for 2 Appeals of the Asylum
the Immigration Courts refused my case).
My Barrister insisted to me, for appealing
my case to London Supreme Court, but I
didn’t accept this option.
I don’t wanted to had other legal issues.
I was turned back home via a Removal Order (UKBA).
I want to mention that I’m a honest man and very good
character. The OverStaying was the biggest mistake
of my life (I mean the first and the last one).
I have never commited a crime (in my country, in UK and all
over the world), never been sentenced, never fined and so on.
I am a hard work man, and Architect by profession.
I’m am concerned if the CO will be affected in his
decision only by this detail ??
Because all other documents for the interview are OK,
and I meet all the other requirements for DV Visas.
Please give me your opinion.
If you think that this is a confidential personal story,
please edit my comment here, to be published partially.
Thank you very much Simon
Kind Regards
June 12, 2017 at 17:21
Not respecting immigration laws in general is something that can cause problems in your immigration application to the USA. Onluy the CO can decide. Be truthful in the DV process and hope that they are willing to overlook the UK overstay.
June 12, 2017 at 17:57
Thanks a lot Simon.
Definitely, You are the best.
Technically you are a great Lawyer.
It doesn’t matter that officially you aren’t.
I will make a small donation for your project.
I wish you all the best. Take care for your little Angel (SOPHIA) ♡♡♡

Hi Simon,
Me and My wife had a different lastname when we were born.
I received my fathers lastname after my mother and father got married when I was 8 and my wife was adopted by her stepfather when she was 6 and received his lastname.
Now this is all mentioned on our birth certificates (it is added handwritten and got stamped with date and signature) but not sure if we have to mention these other names in our DS260 form.
Thanks for the reply.
June 12, 2017 at 17:23
Yes the DS260 has a section for other names used – use that to list these other names.
June 12, 2017 at 19:53
Thanks a lot for your reply Simon.
June 12, 2017 at 16:47
Hi Brit. I wanna ask u something. Here is my situation. Im dv winner of dv2017 & I arrived in the US on May 26 but my visa expired on May 29. I haven’t got my SSN yet though they said that they would mail it within 2 weeks. What do u think of it? Where I should contact about this?
June 12, 2017 at 17:24
What do I think about what?? Make your questions clear.
June 12, 2017 at 17:37
Dear Simon,
My wife is the main applicant, our case is undergoing AP.
the interview was done on 24th of May.
Later on the 24th the status update for all the 4 applicants was AP on 24th of May.
On the 25th the status update for applicant #2 was AP on 25th of May, while the other three still AP on the 24th.
On 12th of June the status update for applicant #2 was AP on 12th of June, while the other three still on the 24th of may.
Do you have any clue what does that mean?
June 12, 2017 at 18:28
No.
June 12, 2017 at 18:24
hi simon
The visa allocation for each region is 7% per region and the regions are Africa Europe and many others or is the 7% allocated per country??
June 12, 2017 at 18:26
The 7% number is NOT an allocation. It is the LIMIT (maximum) number of visas that can be awarded to any one country (globally). It does not mean any country has that number allocated to it.
June 12, 2017 at 19:20
Thanks Simon..
according to my calculations 7% of 50000 is 3500 so the visa limit for each country is 3500..
If for example in my country according to the number of people selected for 2018 is 3000,does that mean they will all get 2NLs depending whether or not they have meant all the requirements in regard to filling in the ds260??
June 12, 2017 at 19:49
No, it does not mean that because (AGAIN) the 7% is NOT a per country allocation!
June 12, 2017 at 19:59
Hi simons.
U have a great job doing..
I wana ask somthing..that my husband won the lottery of 2018.his place of birth is doha..but now v r living in pakistan…
U think that it can b a risky for pakistani citizans …

No
June 12, 2017 at 20:12
Hi simon
Am so worried and kinda tense coz of my case number is 52000 and the required number is 50000
I come from kenya and according to the selectee for that region for 2018 is 3000..
Am not sure whether I will be lucky enough to get to the next level now that I have submitted the ds260
June 12, 2017 at 20:23
whats the meaning of current
June 12, 2017 at 21:14
If you mean when the Visa Bulletin shows CURRENT for a region, it means there are enough visas for all remaining demand – and therefore any case within that region can get an interview.
June 12, 2017 at 21:16
You have a long wait.
June 12, 2017 at 21:25
thanks simon
What about the meaning of cut off in the vb
June 12, 2017 at 21:43

June 13, 2017 at 00:07
Is your lawyer processing your DV case?? It sounds like you need to take control because your lawyer is probably messing it up.
June 13, 2017 at 00:07
Dear simon where will i complete the form i mean the place u.s embassy or any other place
June 13, 2017 at 00:10
On the internet. Follow the instructions you have been given.
June 13, 2017 at 00:21
Yes my lawyer is processing my case because he is handling my asylum case too.
June 13, 2017 at 00:25
Well your lawyer doesn’t understand DV cases. You should not be waiting so long for processing.
June 13, 2017 at 00:26
Can i seek for clarificatoin how to fill the Dd 26o form for the u.s embassy becouse i have same problems of filling the form
June 13, 2017 at 00:42
Click the link at the top of this page for the guide. Learn about the process. In there, you will also see a link to show you how to complete the DS260.
June 13, 2017 at 00:29
I think i have to submite an Expidite inquiry about my case or please any suggestion?
June 13, 2017 at 00:41
My suggestion is to get actively involved in your case to make sure your lawyer understands the urgency. Your DV case cannot go past September 30. Information on AOS is here.

June 13, 2017 at 01:55
Hi Simon,
Is it possible that KCC can refuse to sent my DV case to the Embassy and to do not notify me with the 2NL, because I have a previous arrest (the only one in my life) for UK visa overstay? I have a very low CN. I should unlock the DS260 to declare this detail?? I’m very concerned about the KCC decision, and I don’t know if a similiar case had happen before??
Thanks a lot for your precious info
June 13, 2017 at 02:42
KCC never refuse cases. You will get interviewed.
June 13, 2017 at 02:31
Hi Brit
My question in ds260 in this question
Were u previously employed?
Its only asking about previous employer not current right?
If i type yes should i include my current employer also
Or should i state only past one not the current

June 13, 2017 at 02:43
Between current and past occupation you create a history.

June 13, 2017 at 04:13
Hi Simon, my husband was selected in DV 2018, but although mine and our child’s photos are recent, he foolishly used his photo from DV 2017. In your opinion, is it even worth going to the interview as it says we will be disqualified in the instructions? I am asking because I was originally going to apply for a US visa for another purpose and I am concerned that a refusal at the interview might jeopardize my getting another visa immediately afterwards. Thank you and all the best.
June 13, 2017 at 14:07
We don’t know how they will handle the DV2017 re-used photo cases yet. Once interviewing starts, we will see.
June 13, 2017 at 15:30
Thank you for your help, I guess I’ll be back to bother you with this question in the fall… Have a wonderful summer.

Hi Britsimon- do I list all the charities that I have contributed to in the past (e.g. Red Cross) under “Have you belonged to, contributed to, or worked for any professional, social, or charitable organization?”
June 13, 2017 at 14:04
Contributing does not constitute membership. They are really looking for active involvement in those organizations.
June 13, 2017 at 07:39
Hi simon. And thx for helping to makr it easy for all of us. My case numb is af25xxx . i filled and submited already the ds260.my QS is that i mentioned only the hight school and not from age 12. Is it problem? What about my case numb?

Your number is fine.
June 13, 2017 at 07:47
Hi brisimon
First I would like to thank you regarding this opportunity. Then I do have some question.
* I did National service as most of Eritreans young did, for almost Ten years, in different place of the country with different occupations, but now I am Free from This. So my question is as follows
1.Where can I register this in the form DS-260
2.Can this affects my current address meaning as I explained before I did my national service in different place of the country
3.There is no any paper given by the government or other authorities to confirm this service, So what can i do for this.
4.This service is with in the Ministry of Defence Force, Eritrea. So can this accounts as a military service.
Thank you
Kind Regards,
ERITREA
June 13, 2017 at 13:52

Make your questions more clear than one block of text.
1. No
2. Stop overthinking.
3. Just do your best.
4. Use what works for you.
Really – relax, use some common sense, save as you go through the form.
