2 or must we travel together since I am the principal winner
Please I would be happy if you clearify my worries thanks in advance

Dear Simon,
really really its a great efforts and i can’t imagine how you are doing that. it’s really great job dear.
My interview in July, ill make my question in points so you can get it easy.
1- we travel to US last year and my wife deliver there and had our first baby and he got the US passport and they help us at the hospital and make Medicate for her to get the fees, the Co will ask about who pay for the delivery or it will affect on the visa.
2- my interview was July 6 and they call me from the embassy and they delay it to July 18 and ask me to submit my documents to the embassy first week of July, is that okay?
3- I’m Hepatitis B and i know that 2007 and since this day i’m following up and my health condition is so normal and no need for any treatment and i have the tests history, when i make my medical check up i told the Doc and he write that in the report, is that will affect on my visa?
4- when i make my DS 260 i made an application for my American son do i have to submit and document for him plus the BC and passport?
5- i have a good job right now in GCC and i want to move to US but later 2 or 3 years can i make my GC and visit US from time to time less than a year during this period or its not allowed?
Thank you so much dear, my appreciation in advance.
June 20, 2017 at 14:59
1. They might ask about fees, yes.

Hi Brit
June 20, 2017 at 10:27
Hi Brit. 2018AF selectee. Trust you are well. Kindly tell me, when I sign into my DV application, under the summary Information page where you get the priciple applicant name n their derivatives, there is something I dont understand. When I point at the ‘COMPLETED’ icon (under the IV application status) for each person, I get this message..’The IV application has been submitted for this application. It will be reviewed once your civil documents have been submitted’..
1. What does this mean
2. Are there documents I need to send to KCC????
3. My spouse n I had a customary wedding four n a half years ago n had a child together 2 years ago. We are planning on having the union under the Ag for a marriage certificate coz I knw it is a must to produce the legal document. We filled the customary marriage date on both our DS 260s. We unlocked twice n submitted again.
Pls clarify for me the above so I get to knw if there is something we still need to send to have our cases reviewed..
Thanks..
June 20, 2017 at 14:52
1. Exactly what it says. It’s normal.
2. No
3. You take legal docs to the interview.
June 20, 2017 at 15:24
Loud n clear…thanks alot.
June 20, 2017 at 10:34
Another situational question Brit..still 2018AF selectee. My case number is high so we have a long long wait. My spouse n I are young in marriage n we understand anything can happen in one year. In that case, supposing I fall pregnant (I am the main applicant) n we are scheduled for an appointment n I get our new addition say after our interview n before entry to US (assuming we are approved) how do u deal with such since the young one will not have been processed to enter US under DV programme….what if they come before the interview but you are already scheduled for an interview in which case you cannot add them as a derivative?? If theres a link explaining the above situations kindly share..
Thaaaaaaanx!

June 20, 2017 at 10:43
Hello BritSimon,
Per the instructions on Form I-134, “If you are sponsoring more than one foreign national, you must submit a separate Form I-134 for each foreign national.”. Is this applicable to DV Selectees and his Derivatives?
June 20, 2017 at 14:50
No, one I-134 covers the DV selectee and his/her derivatives.
June 20, 2017 at 11:10
Hi Brit…one more querry for now. I made a spelling error on my childs DS260 form. Under her fathers address..the name if the province should be ‘Gauteng’…I just noticed today that I typed ‘Guateng’…the name is spelt correctly on other parts n on her fathers DS n mine? We have unlocked n submitted twice. Should we still unlock for this correction or can this be overlooked or explained at interview. I know unlocking delays n I want to avoid further unlocking the forms.
June 20, 2017 at 14:49
No need to unlock for that. And no, unlocking does NOT cause delay.
June 20, 2017 at 15:23
Thanks Brit! As always ur the best! God bless..

Can you please make me understand this email which is from the counselor:
Dear Sir/Madam
This office regrets to inform you that it is unable to issue a visa to you because you have been found ineligible under Section 212(a)(5)(A) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Section 212(a)(5)(A) prohibits the issuance of a visa to anyone whose application does not comply with the provisions of the INA or regulations issued pursuant thereto. Our office has determined that insufficient evidence has been provided or could be authenticated that would establish that the minimum educational or work experience qualifications have been met towards the guidelines laid out by the Diversity Visa program. We acknowledge that the process can be frustrating, and every effort was made in seeking to confirm your qualifications. Should your circumstances change, and you are able to further your education or gain more tangible work experience, we encourage you to consider applying for the Diversity Visa program again in the future.
*We will return your academic documents via DHL

June 20, 2017 at 16:11
Hi guys
Am afia from ghana and 2017 winner. I think wrongly spelled my name at the iniatial entry as Afia, Owusuaa. On my passport and other documents its spelled Afia, Owusuah. My interview is on 24 july. I actually filled the ds260 with Afia, Owusuah.
Please can this cause denial or disqualification. I need answers please
June 20, 2017 at 17:10
It would normally not cause disqualification.
June 20, 2017 at 17:33
Dear Brit,
I have asked you about the high school that I’ve mentioned just the dates of last year,
and you said i need to unlock to add previous schools.
I need to know if i had already mentioned a bachelor’s also, Moreover a work experience that is acceptable for the criteria, do i still need to unlock application?
Your answer is really needed, thank you
June 20, 2017 at 17:56
I have told you to unlock and correct it. That is my advice. Why do you keep asking me the same question?
June 20, 2017 at 17:41
Hi Brit,
My Husband is the main applicant from Iran Living in Canada and we had our interview on Jan 05 at the Montreal Embassy and we are under AP for the last 5 months e-mailed the embassy and was told to wait! My question is does or Medical expires after six months from the interview? I know for Iranian is almost 6 months Ap!
Thanks
June 20, 2017 at 17:59
The medical will expire after 6 months from the date of the medical. So – if the AP is resolved, they will probably tell you to repeat the medicals.
June 20, 2017 at 17:57
Hello Brit,
Do you seek to enter the United States for the purpose of performing skilled or unskilled labor but have not yet been certified by the Secretary of Labor?
DV 2018 case. I’m principal applicant, married after the results were announced. Me and my spouse are coming to US just to live there, enjoy the country and opportunities. I know there been debate over this question I have read the answers you gave to others. If YES is correct answer, what shall I put in explanation box ? and my spouse the same explanation as me ?
Thank you
June 20, 2017 at 18:00
The most accurate answer is yes. Whether you answer yes or no won’t affect your case. An explanation is unimportant.
June 20, 2017 at 18:16
Hello! My case number AF12XXX and I submitted de 260 on 10 May but I unlockéd and resubmitted in June 20..so which date are they going to considér if I submitted early that of May or June does my submission date of May still count?
June 20, 2017 at 18:36
Hi BritSimon,
DV-2018, Me (principal applicant) and my spouse, no kids.
We have 12 000 usd which were given to us from our parents as wedding gift. The actually took out loan to support us so the money just appear on our account. I’m currently unemployed and my spouse is working as waitress (low salary). We both have job offers from US employers but not Affidavit of support.
1. Is it a problem that the money 12k just appeared on our bank account (without previous serious income) ?
2. I know the requirement by law is 20k for two, but do you think that 12k plus job offers can be ok in our case ?
3. (again) In case we borrow more money to reach 20k minimum, is it ok if the money just appear on our account without visible previous income ?
Our plan is to return the loan immediately we enter the US.
Thank you so much for your help.
June 20, 2017 at 18:50
1. You might be asked to provide proof of how that happened.
2. It depends on the CO/embassy.
3. Same answer as 1.
You need to have a realistic plan to support yourselves in the USA.
June 20, 2017 at 19:47
1. I can easily provide proof of the fact that the money came from our parents who took loan to support us and by that make our immigration to US possible. Do you think it is a problematic proof ?
June 20, 2017 at 20:02
No
June 20, 2017 at 19:00
Hello britsimon .
I am a student and living in rent house , now 1-i am moving , i will change the home , but i filled ds 260 with this address ? What should i do ?
2- on dv entry i applied with address of my parents in different city . Now i applied with this home that i am living 4 years here in rent house . Is that correct ?
3-in my birth certificate is shown that im living in parents house but im living in different city because of my studies . My diploma verifies that i im living in this city .so i choose that address that i am really living .
I need your advice . I am really worried for that .
Thank you
June 20, 2017 at 19:23
1. If you are DV2018 you can unlock the DS260 and update, or just inform the CO later.
2. That is OK.
3. It is not a problem.
June 20, 2017 at 20:20
Thank you !
June 20, 2017 at 21:12

June 21, 2017 at 02:12
Doesn’t matter at this point.

June 21, 2017 at 02:14
Yes you can apply under work experience, but qualifying through education is much easier.
June 21, 2017 at 00:03
HI SIMON,
I have won the dv2018, but it was more like a shock to me. I applied as single and i got married five months after the registration period. I didn’t imagine i would win. To be honest, i have been googling about similar stories such as mine to find out a solution to my problem but i didnt see a satisfying reply.
First, i need to submit my form as married, there is no way to add a form for my wife. Just choose single or married.
What will happen if i submit as married which is the truth? How can i send my wife’s form since no chance to add a form.
What should i do?
Thank you for your time in advance.
June 21, 2017 at 02:15
You must process as married – because you are married.
You use the add applicant feature to add a form for your spouse.
June 21, 2017 at 09:24
Thank you, Simon. How to add a form to DS260. I cant see this option.
June 21, 2017 at 10:56
I got it. the option is there. Thank you Simon for you kind help
June 21, 2017 at 13:32
If you have submitted (DS260 says completed) you may need to unlock. Otherwise the feature is on the starting page BEFORE you are in your DS260.
June 21, 2017 at 02:08
Hi Brit,
1. Does this change your previous answer, with my (separated) spouse not completing a DS 260?
Last Minute Changes Expand All
Does every applicant need to fill a out Form DS-260?
Form DS-260, Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application, is required for all immigrant visa applicants and Diversity Visa applicants.
2. Will my (applicant) DS 260 be precessed on my DS 260 only without my spouse submitting a DS 260?
Thank you
June 21, 2017 at 02:58

June 21, 2017 at 04:49

June 21, 2017 at 15:30
You are doing something wrong. Follow the instructions more carefully.
June 21, 2017 at 15:06
Hello Brit, i am a selectee of 2018 and i have already filled form DS260. I just realised i made some mistakes and i need your advise
1) I filled the name of a town/city instead of the province/state but of thesame country. should i unlock and do the correction?
2) I also did not give all the schools where i worked since, i have just one employer who is the government of Cameroon and i have worked in 3 different schools, but filling the ds260 form i filled just the most recent school i teach there now. can this cause the CO to deny me a visa? or should i unlock my DS260 form?
June 21, 2017 at 15:31
1. No
2. Since you have one employer, that is OK – no need to unlock.
June 21, 2017 at 15:15

June 21, 2017 at 17:42
Hi BritSimon,
Question about previous employment (DS-260).
1. Is SELF-EMPLOYMENT acceptable ? I had own business for one year… selling photograhy wall art.
2. How would you put this ? Is this ok ?
Employer name: SELF-EMPLOYMENT
Address: My present address
Job Title: MANAGING DIRECTOR
Supervisor’s name: NO SUPERVISOR (or my name ??)
Thank you !
June 22, 2017 at 20:11
It is fine to list that. However, that may not be enough if you plan to meet the work experience requirement. As long as you meet the education requirement anyway, then it is fine.
June 21, 2017 at 18:00
Hi Brit, I am a 2017 selectee, and I completed my DS260, but I later found out I made an error regarding my educational years so I wrote to KCC to have my DS260 unlocked for me, but I received a mail from KCC telling me my interviewed date has been scheduled which is August 1 even though my DS260 is still unlocked and says Incomplete.I want to know if something is wrong and do I have to write them again?though my case has been forwarded to the interview office
June 21, 2017 at 18:02
Hello brit once again, if I applied to ds260 with work experience not only education for 11 years and dagger diploma? It should only be filled rubric of work experience or both, and can print the job site where the contained area with the code: to be accepted in the profession that dagger and sent together with documentation on the embassy, thanks
June 21, 2017 at 18:09
Hi Brit,
Couple of questions please:
1- does the location of the interview have any bearing in accepting or refusing the visa? i.e. embassy in a specific city has more visa issuance rate than other cities or something?
2- I am having a birth certificate from my country and not the country i was born in, but the one from my country is official and it states my place of birth of the country i was charged to, and since i am not residing in the country i was born in since many many years now I have asked the ustraveldocs.com in an exchange of emails about this matter and their final answer came yesterday as : “Thank you for your email. Yes it will be acceptable.
Regards,
Immigrant Visa Team, US Embassy”, now would this be copied to the embassy i am assigned for an interview or what is the situation?
3- shall i mention a name i was using “different surname than now” way before but i will not be presenting any documents containing that name or not?
Thank you so much and sorry to bother you with my questions.
June 22, 2017 at 20:15
1. Some embassies are more lenient than others – but you can’t just choose any embassy you like.
2. Print that out and take it to the interview.
3. I assume you listed this other name on your DS260 – so that is what they would need.
June 21, 2017 at 18:25
Hello Britsimon,
as i was filling the ds260 i filled my friends address in it as the place where i will be living in the US but i have another person who is willing to sponsor me,is that ok?
June 21, 2017 at 19:32
I wrote divorced on ds 260 but I now I want to change for single. is that fine? nothing will be wrong?
June 22, 2017 at 02:15

June 22, 2017 at 01:41
Hi Brit! I need to register my appointment with the Embassy, but when I try to sign up it’s telling me that my email has been taken. I may have registered before for a nonimmigrant visa. do you have any info on the website about this? I selected this:
I have received a Consular interview appointment date from the National Visa Center (NVC), Kentucky Consular Center (KCC), or the Consular Section and I have been instructed to register my appointment on this site.
Thanks!
June 22, 2017 at 02:04
No, I don’t know any tips about that.
June 22, 2017 at 05:04
Hi Brit, I’m Saw Yan Naung from Burma who is 2018 DV lottery winner and my case number is over 5600. Do I need to worry about it? And what is the deadline to apply ds 260 form cause I can’t find accurate answer online, please help me.
June 22, 2017 at 20:38
There is no finite deadline – but you can delay submission until around May 2018 with no problem.
June 22, 2017 at 07:52
Hi Simon, super helpful website.
Question: I am in the US right now in B2 (valid until Sep). My husband won the lottery and he is still back in our home country.
1. Do I have to go back to my country now or am i eligible to adjust my status here?
2. If eligible to adjust, when can I apply?
3. Alternatively, can my husband get a B2 visa and we apply for adjustment together?
Thank you!
June 22, 2017 at 20:35
1. Your home country. Don’t try and adjust and DON’T overstay.
2. N/A
3. No – that would mean he comes here with intention to adjust status. Silly mistake to make. Don’t.

Hi Simon! I am John from Ethiopia. I am so glad so see such helpful blog in relation to DV lottery. I need you to clarify on the following questions. My wife has won 2018 DV lottery and we filled ds260 in May 29,2017 and waiting for the 2nd response. In the meantime we do have a lot of worries.
1) when we filled the ds260, my name(as a derivative) was not correctly registered in the entry page. Meaning, I misplace my given name and sure name. The correct one is Demozie, Yohannes Kassa but we filled as Kassa, Yohannes. Since the entry(summary) page is not editable, we proceed to next page. And, inside the Ds260 I correctly put given name and surename and we received the confirmation letter by our correct name. Does it make a mess later in the interview?
2) My wife as winner is attending her MSc degree and she is nearly to finish it. However, she entered the first DV registration as if she has already got MSs degree assuming that she would finish it early before DV announcement period. And, when we filled Ds260, we again filled that she has MSc degree. doest it have a problem. Until the interview period, she will secure her MSc degree and since she has already BSc degree in Engineering and has two plus work experience.
3) She applied for Dv lottery as single marital status because we were engaged but not married at that time. Later, we wed in April 6, 2017 before the announcement of DV winners. Later, she filled Ds260 as she is married and I also applied as a derivative. We do have mutual financial statements, SMS,mails, pics and above all legal marriage certificate. What I want to ask you is she becomes pregnant now. She will give birth in next February. Does it have implication on the denial or approval of visa. Your scholalry and genuine feedback is very much appreciated.

Dear Simon
DV 2018, DS-260
1. Me and my spouse live together at one address. But I have permanent residence still officially reported in my parents house which is different place. Do you think it is a problem?
2. In section Present address, there is a part “started living here”. In fact I Iive at the address since I was born but later was changing addresses because of studies. Now I have returned home and live with my parents so the date filled in should be since I came back right ?
Thank you so much for your help

1. No
2. This contradicts what you just told me in question 1. Make up your own mind about dates once you decide what the truth is.

How do I change an interview date for CP and how long does it take to get a new date set? Am scheduled for August 10 Case number AF35***.Will I make it on time before Sep 30th?Thanks

To change you contact the embassy, but that would be enormously risky, so I would NOT advise you do that.

Hi Brit, i just got 21 and my parents are the DV winner. They didn’t mention me on at first stage and now they have been told that they can include their child if under 21…do you think there is any chamce that i can be included ? Txs a lot in advance!
June 22, 2017 at 20:21
If they didn’t list you on the DV ENTRY, then they have broken the rules and would be disqualified if they mention you.

Hi Brit
Thanks for your support
I’m DV lottery 2018 winner, does the affidavit support form must be submitted at the interview? While it was not listed at the supporting documents for the US embassy at Cairo
Thanks and best regards
June 22, 2017 at 20:20
The I-134 is never listed. Some embassies ask for them, Cairo rarely does.
June 23, 2017 at 16:36
So.. Do I have to submit any property documents?
Thanks for your support
June 23, 2017 at 17:08
Typically not.

Hello Simon, firstly, thank you for your time to respond. I appriciate all the good that you do. 🙂 Here are my questions:
1) Is this case number considered relatively low? 2018EU29XX
2) After passing the interview, I should be issued with a document. Will it be a working visa or a green card? Or possibly a visa that will turn into a green card after a certain period of time?
Thank you for your help,
Cezary

1. Yes
2. After the interview you get an immigrant visa (one time visa) in your passport. Once you enter the USA you are a LPR – Green Card holder. You don’t need a working visa.
