Hi brit if someone relie on work experience to get dv visa is there any need to show prove of high school certificate?
June 22, 2017 at 20:17
No, BUT if they have the required education that is MUCH easier to meet the requirement than by work experience.
June 22, 2017 at 21:02
Hi Brit Simon, My husband and I are 2017 lottery winners, we have been issued visas and are going to the US in August for a 2 week holiday to activate them, is it ok that we go back in November permanently even though we won’t have our actual green cards when we go back the second time? Many thanks for your advice!
June 22, 2017 at 21:35
Yes, no problem.
June 22, 2017 at 21:20
Hii Brit, I asked a question and you didn’t reply, my question is
I am a 2017 selectee, and I completed my DS260, but I later found out I made an error regarding my educational years so I wrote to KCC to have my DS260 unlocked for me, but I received a mail from KCC telling me my interviewed date has been scheduled which is August 1 even though my DS260 is still unlocked and says Incomplete.I want to know if something is wrong and do I have to write them again?though my case has been forwarded to the interview office
June 22, 2017 at 21:37
That happens. Unlocking won’t stop KCC scheduling an appointment *IF* the case has been processed prior to the unlocking. It won’t cause a problem, but if I were you I would update the corrections and resubmit.
June 23, 2017 at 22:22

June 23, 2017 at 02:55
Hi Simon,
I have a question about entering the U.S.A for education. Specifically, a Chinese EB-5 applicant and his child (about 10-year old) submmited the I526 petiton this year. When they will be admitted to the United States as the permanent residents in 4 or 5 years, as a permanent resident, what requirements does the child should meet for attending a public school? For example, if the child has not passed some English test or Language Proficiency Testing, he/she may not be accepted by a public school?
June 23, 2017 at 04:25
I only answer DV lottery questions

Hi, I am Duminda Sampath from Sri Lanka who won the green card lottery in 2016.I faced the visa interview in 2016 December and obtained the visa. But I was not able to go to America during past 6 months due to my wedding. The embassy promised me to extend my visa. And again both me and my wife faced the second visa interview in this month and there we had some documet shortcomings. My wife has been to china for three years and she need to get a police clearence report from china. Hi Simon,
I’m DV2018 Selectee. My friend in States, signed the I-134 Form for me (for all my family). He has a good job, and his incomes are above 125% of the Poverty line. But I am concered about this:
My friend is married, but she didn’t send me other docs about his wife. Can be a problem at the Interview by the CO, if I present in the Embassy the original Affidavit of Support ONLY by him?
Thanks a lot
June 23, 2017 at 04:31
No problem UNLESS your interview is in Tirana.
June 23, 2017 at 08:20
Yes Simon. My interview location is Tirana
I think they (CO) are strict at this point.
I know that you are tired by repeating things many times,
but please if you can do an exception :
Can you tell me exactly what Documents are required
for the I-134 Form (Affidavit of Support)?
I have the case when the Sponsor is MARRIED.
1) I-134 Form (Affidavit of Support)
2) W2 Tax Statement
3) …………………………
4) …………………………
5) …………………………
I don’t want to be refused from an Incorrect Affidavit of Support.
Thanks a lot Simon
You are very precise man
June 23, 2017 at 12:51
In Tirana they want a second I-134 completed.
Other documents are

June 23, 2017 at 05:52

June 23, 2017 at 10:18
I was assigned the residence and have the opportunity to activate my green card until October of this year; I have some doubts about this: I still do not have enough economic resources to set up in the USA with my family, I could go alone to activate and return to my country in two days? What is the maximum time, once the Activation, to return to the USA and to settle fully with my family? Thank you very much!
June 23, 2017 at 12:46
Each person with the visa must enter the USA before their visa expires.

June 23, 2017 at 12:50
Hi Brit,
Do we need “affidavit of support (I-864)” for the interview? i just read it on the us embassy immigrant visa requirements.
Thanks
June 23, 2017 at 12:57
For DV they may require an I-134 – but not the I-864
June 23, 2017 at 13:01
thanks for quick reply, but iif i show i have cash for me and my kid of 20K should be ok and no need for i-134 then, am i correct to assume that? thanks
June 23, 2017 at 13:25
It depends on the embassy/CO

Hello Brit,
I’m a 2018 dv lottery selectee from Ghana.
1. Do I need an affidavit of support since it wasn’t mentioned in the required document?
2. My case number is 2018AF9xxx, please is it low?
June 23, 2017 at 13:26
1. In Ghana, they typically ask about the host. https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
2. Yes
June 23, 2017 at 15:14
Hello BritSimon,
Thank you very much for your help so far. Your website is definitely the most helpful place for everybody concerned with DV program.
My DS-260 is almost ready to submit. But there’s one thing I’m worried about. I’m currently unemployed. I was running my own business for a year and it just didn’t worked.
I’m principal applicant and in my form just says “primary occupation” – UNEMPLOYED. But in the form of my spouse the form is asking for an explanation why the spouse (myself) is unemployed.
1. Do you think it is a problem to submit the DS 260 as being unemployed at the moment ?
2. Do you think this situation can lead in some extra questions at the interview ?
3. It is better to quickly find some kind of job just to have “primary occupation” ?
Sorry for asking too much about this, I just can’t distinguish if that is a trivial thing or something to pay attention to.
Our interview suppose to be in Bratislava (Slovakia).
June 23, 2017 at 17:07
1. No
2. No
3. No
Remember, they expect you to quit your job anyway!
June 23, 2017 at 16:11
Hi Brit I have a question about financial document.
I’m single, no wife nor children. I will go the states alone and I have no sponsor.
I have $5000 cash in my saving account. I have a certificate of title, land and building, which the land’officer quoted the price of my property at $25,000. Today he just gave me a land quotation paper.
Would I have a possible chance to pass the interview?
Thank you
June 23, 2017 at 17:08
Possibly, yes. It varies by embassy. If you want to make it safer, get an I-134.
June 23, 2017 at 18:39
Hi Brit,
DS 260. As SELF-EMPLOYED, what should I write in supervisor field ? I don’t have any supervisor, so my name ? Thanks
June 23, 2017 at 20:22
“Self”

Hi britz am a 2017 dv winner, prior to interview on 25 April I went in for my medicals. But wasn’t given to me but was postponed for further test which means two months addition from my interview date due to some problems related to my x-ray. Now what I want to know is, will this medicals be handed to me or the medical panel has the right to withhold my reports. And who is to decide if am to travel or not. Medical panel or embassy.
June 23, 2017 at 20:30
The embassy decide – but Won’t approve the case unless they have the signed off medical.
June 23, 2017 at 20:07
Question on vaccinations:
If an individual cannot show documentation that they’ve had all necessary childhood vaccines, presumably they will need to receive booster(s) or even begin a full adult series to meet requirements, depending on the physician.
Must an adult series be started as much in advance as possible, so that the series is well underway/completed by the time of the interview? Or will any required adult series simply be INITIATED at the time of the medical, with only the first of multiple vaccinations required for the series sufficing for visa processing purposes? I’m a bit concerned by the terminology that vaccines must be as up to date as possible by the interview.
Thanks!
J
June 23, 2017 at 20:31
This varies by vaccination and is up to the physician. I am not a physician…
June 23, 2017 at 20:40
Thanks Simon. I just figured that since probably 90%+ of people cannot prove their childhood vaccines were administered, unless they actually have records from 30-40 years ago, this would have been addressed before.
June 23, 2017 at 21:40
Hello Brit,
In spouse section (DS260) they mean occupation as current ? My spouse was running business for few months, now quit, he is unemployed at the moment.
June 24, 2017 at 04:27

June 24, 2017 at 03:32
Please thanks for answer. I want to make changes in ds 260. I wrote divorced on ds 260 and I want to make for single. I think I did single on my first entry. Thanks in advance for your answer.
June 24, 2017 at 04:21
They will ask you about this and want an explanation of why you wrote divorced.
June 24, 2017 at 03:42
If I make from divorced to single it will not ask my you did changes? Thanks for your answer in advance. you are doing great job for your life after death.
June 24, 2017 at 06:25
Dear simon
I confuse some points in DS260, my passport Place of birth is “Ethiopia” not city while DS260 needs Country and City both. Also I forget what I was wrote my first entry place of birth, so does it effect me if write both city and country Ethiopia?
Second question is my passport last name is ” ARE” while my entry form was “AARE” so does it have a problem?
June 24, 2017 at 14:35
1. City/Country is fine.
2. The name in the DS260 should match the passport. That reduces the risk.
June 24, 2017 at 06:26
I’ve lost my birth cert. Could I still have chance if I have recommendation letter from the respective department where I was born.
June 24, 2017 at 14:34
Follow procedures in your country for a replacement.
June 24, 2017 at 07:01

June 24, 2017 at 14:33

2. Yes you can review it. Make sure it is accurate.
June 24, 2017 at 10:04

June 24, 2017 at 11:34
Hi Brit! I have 3 questions for you. 1.if the spouse of the principal applicant goes abroad for a period of 3 months after submiting DS 260 should I unlock and add this information to the form or it doesn’t matter? 2.Does this affect/delay the date of the interview? 3.the criteria of qualifying through work experience says you should have at least 2 years of experience immediately before the appication, what does they mean by “the application” the date you submitted the lottery in october or the date you submitted DS 260?
June 24, 2017 at 14:01
1. Optional.
2. Probably not
3. Interview date.
June 24, 2017 at 13:15
Dear Simon .
What is the Receipt Number and how can I get it ?
Best Regards
June 24, 2017 at 14:00
What receipt number – be clear.
June 24, 2017 at 14:13
My case under AP since 22.02.2017 and I several times tried to get information from Georgian US council ,but I didnt . I found below when I had search on google
`If you submitted a visa petition, adjustment of status, green card renewal, citizenship application, DACA or almost any other USCIS form, the receipt number will allow you to more easily track the status of your case`
Does it word for Diversity Visa ?
2)Could I set appointment with CO with help of Infopass ?( https://my.uscis.gov/appointment )
June 24, 2017 at 14:39
No that won’t help. Waiting is all you can do.
June 24, 2017 at 16:16
Hi Brit
please does it matter if you didn’t pass your high school certificate? currently persuring my
degree
June 24, 2017 at 16:57
sorry i mean high school certificate exam. thanks for your response
June 24, 2017 at 17:58
Yes, that can matter – the requirements vary from embassy to embassy.
June 24, 2017 at 18:29
thanks a lot
June 24, 2017 at 23:19
Dear BritSimon,
I’m filling out form ds 260.
I was working for the same US employer for three months in 2013 and than again three months in 2014. Both years Work and Travel program. Please, should I list it twice in the previous employment section ? Thank you.
June 25, 2017 at 00:22
Yes
June 25, 2017 at 02:23
Hello BritSimon,
Does the CO asks about previous employer and why i quite the former works during the interview?
Thanks
June 25, 2017 at 02:28
Probably not.
June 25, 2017 at 03:35
Thanks ever so much for the continued update
June 25, 2017 at 07:47
Hello brit,
I have a few questions regarding DS260 form –
1. I have added my elder brother as a sponsor, however, he has already sponsored one of our cousin sister back in 2016 DV lottery. So, will there be any problem due to this? Can he be sponsor more than one time or not?
2. I have only added my educational information, not my work related information as I am qualified through my educational requirements. so, my question is – will there be any problem during the interview or is it necessary to fill the work related information, if one is qualified through educational requirements?
June 25, 2017 at 14:27
1. That can cause a problem.
2. The “problem” is that you haven’t answered your DS260 questions accurately. Unlock and do that.
June 26, 2017 at 02:33
1. Then, should I unlock and change the sponsor?
June 26, 2017 at 03:55
You are unlocking anyway – so yes
June 25, 2017 at 08:23
Hi Britsimon
Thanks for all this great information.
I entered the DC-2018 lottery and filled in the eligibility country as Argentina (country of birth) but added that I live in Australia. I was lucky enough to be drawn and was assigned an OC number. Should I have been assigned an SA number instead, did I make a mistake with the changeability?
Thanks
Laura
June 25, 2017 at 14:24
Yes, you made a mistake. Your country of chargeability is listed on your selection letter.
Unless you are married to someone born in the OC region, you will be disqualified if you proceed to interview. THat is certain.
June 25, 2017 at 23:14

BritSimon answer:
“Yes, you made a mistake. Your country of chargeability is listed on your selection letter.
Unless you are married to someone born in the OC region, you will be disqualified if you proceed to interview. That is certain”.
Hi BritSimon,
Thanks for your quick response.
I’m in fact an Australian citizen and a born Argentinian citizen. I’m also married to an Australian citizen for the last 12 years, who is part of my application.
Would I be disqualified in my particular situation?. Would you think that I have to contact the KCC to explain my early mistake?
All your feedback, knowledge and experience is extremely welcome!!
Warm regards,
Laura G.
June 26, 2017 at 00:01
DV lottery has nothing to do with citizenship. It is all about place of birth. So – if your spouse was BORN in OC region (as I understand he was from a similar post in another forum), you will be OK. That is called elective cross charging – explained below.
https://britsimonsays.com/country-of-chargeability-for-dv-lottery/
June 26, 2017 at 03:43
Would you recommend us to contact the KCC and explain the mistake or should we best move forward, if and when we receive the 2NL, and apply using the cross charging option?
Thanks in advance!!
Laura G.
June 26, 2017 at 03:54
No need to contact KCC. And don’t describe it as a mistake. Confidence. Armed with the rules.
June 25, 2017 at 08:56
dear simon,
I will move to the use in two weeks time. I have a question regarding social security card. do I have to apply for it or they will send me without applying?
June 25, 2017 at 14:21
You picked a choice on your DS260 about that. If you chose USCIS to apply for you, then it is normally automatically sent within 2 to 3 weeks.
June 25, 2017 at 10:53
Hi brit are the case numbers are distributed in a sequence for each country or No sequnce for example if nepal has 5000 selectess so they assign 1 to 5000 no for nepal and then come 5001 to 5400 for other country and so on…
June 25, 2017 at 14:17
The sequence is within the region, not country.
June 25, 2017 at 12:10
We have been selected in the DV program and attended the interview in Abu Dhabi on 7 June, 2017.
Our application was refused as a result of an administrative error where my photograph was attached to both my and my wife’s applications by mistake. The interviewing Case Officer was certain that there was no misleading intentions and this happened merely due to a mistake. Despite the attempt, the Case Officer then was not able to rectify the issue because of lack of access and system being locked at that time. In the Refusal Letter, it is stated that the Application was refused under s 212(a)(5) of the Immigration and Nationality Act due to discrepancies between the Diversity Visa Entry from and our actual family situation. As the Case Officer was convinced at the time of the interview, there was no intentions to cause this discrepancy as we have listed all our family members, including and limited to myself and my wife. We request our application be assessed anew in the absence of the grounds for refusal in accordance with s 212(a)(5) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. we sent an email on 9 june but we didnt receive any answer yet . do you have any comment for our issue ?
June 25, 2017 at 14:17
I think a reversal of the decision is very unlikely.
June 25, 2017 at 15:37
thank you for the fast responding .
They rejected us by wrong referenced law( 212 (a)(5) is about Labor certification and qualifications for certain immigrants not my error in submitting wrong picture). for that mistake they did not even interview us despite of paying visa fee.
1- they should not be responsible and answer my email ? or they can not answering my email ?
2 – is there any way i can change their mind ? because what they say is different from what they reject me and i am looking for a way to defeat myself.can you help me and show me a way?
June 25, 2017 at 16:30
In DV cases, 212 (a)(5) is the correct refusal in a case such as this. Even if it were incorrect (which it is not) that would not be grounds for an appeal. There is no formal appeal process, they are not obliged to reconsider, and they almost never do. The reasoning for your denial is correct also, so if they were to look for a second opinion, that would also be to refuse your application.
I think you need to accept the decision and try again next year.
June 25, 2017 at 13:37
Hi Simon, My wife is DV 2018 winner and waiting for the 2nd response. we were engaged when she applied for DV2018. Before DV lottery announcement, we become married without wedding program by formal government office. We have formal marriage certificate and other proof of marriage. Now,we want to conduct mini program that includes photo and family get together. Will conducting the program later has any effect on the interview. Should we tell to the consul the fact or backdate the program date?

Just make sure you have legal proof of your marriage before the interview, and any evidence that the relationship existed prior to the DV lottery win.

Yes you can supply the certificate later – but all 2017 cases must be finished by September 30th – so you will need to provide missing documents by the end of August, or very early September.

Hello Simon !
DS260 / In which occupation do you intend to work in the U.S. ?
Does this have to match my job offer from US employer ?
Thank you
