HI
I have been selected on the DV lottery 2018.
My girlfriend and I both applied but she hasn’t been selected only me. We want to get married for her to go with me.
The thing is when she applied by herself only put one part of her family name ( for example her family name is XXX-YYY and she put XXX).
1 – When filling out the DS 260 for her, when asked if she applied we will put “yes”. will this cause a problem if the name as on her old selection was missing a part ?

Hi Simon,
I wanna ask you about financial requirements (DV2018)
I’m asking for the local financial rules of Tirana Embassy.
Can I show at the Interview ONLY properties (assets)
in real value 55.000 USD (documented) and other
Savings Deposit? Both of them are in Total Value 67000 USD.
I mean for 3 persons (Husband, Wife and a little child).
Is the above value ENOUGH, to satisfy the CO during the Interview?
What do you think, you have a great experience on these cases.
Is it a big risk, if I go to the Interview ONLY with Assets, without I-134 Form?
Thanks a lot, great Man
June 26, 2017 at 14:48
Tirana embassy are picky about having the I-134. In addition, non liquid assets (like properties) are not too useful in the interview.
So -I would say you could NOT meet the requirement without the I-134 in Tirana.
June 26, 2017 at 14:54

Hello Brit, once I asked u what the card # means. Now I found out it is a # behind your green card. If u don’t get your green card yet, it is a # u get when u pay ur immigrant fee.

And when do I start a process for my dad? I am a 2017 dv winner, it’s been only 2 months since we came.
June 26, 2017 at 17:52
You have to wait until you become a citizen – which you can start after 5 years.
June 26, 2017 at 16:43

Hi BritSimon,
When I filled in my previous US visa issue date for the D260 form, I entered issued date : 10 June instead of 15 June (real date). Do I need to unlock my application to revise it? Thanks.

June 26, 2017 at 18:40
Hello BritSimon,
I would like to ask you:
1. What is the time tolerance for start and end date of previous employment (DS-260) ?
2. I spent 7 months in the US as a tourist. J1 visa / Work and travel (four months) and than ESTA three months. All in the same year. After WAT I have returned to my home country for only two weeks and then went to US on esta. Do you think some extra documents will be required prior the interview ? can this cause a problem ?
Thank you, All the best.
June 27, 2017 at 01:53
1. As accurate as you can
2. NO problem
June 26, 2017 at 19:30

The partial ban from the supreme court is it for all religions or specific ones?
June 26, 2017 at 19:56
That is unclear.
June 26, 2017 at 19:51
Dear Brit,
In ds260, is there somewhere a question or a certain part which is related to sponsor (Affidavit of support) ? I do have a friend who will be my sponor and I just want to make sure I mention it it ds260 if needed.
June 26, 2017 at 19:55

This year 2018 my Girl frnd won dv2018 lottery, When she try to fill the 260 form, she forget her birthday date!! Pls how to get that birthday date that she applied in first process to fill this form 260? Sorry for my broken english
June 27, 2017 at 01:44
There are 365 days in a year – she can try them all.
June 28, 2017 at 03:12
I want to suggest her to ask her birthday to her parents so that she must be know immediately. Parents never forget their children birthday.
By the way, your Question to Mister Britsimon’s, make me so surprise so that i make this advice actually, Lucky momo.
June 28, 2017 at 03:17
LOL. The issue is that the person doesn’t know the date entered in the DV entry as a birthday.
June 26, 2017 at 22:06
Hi Brits,
My name is TUMAH, MIRIAN. Am a 2018 dv selectee. In filling the ds 260 form, there was a question on which travel document i will use. Two options were given: passport or other travel documents. I took de latter when in actual fact it was to be the former(passport). My worry is:
1) I had sent an unlock request to KCC but am still to get a reply. Is it imperative to unlock and make the amendment?
2) If yes, can i send another request after two weeks of no reply?
Thanks
June 27, 2017 at 01:43
1. Yes
2. Yes
July 13, 2017 at 16:39
Hi Brits, warm greetings. I have a big worry. On June 16th 2017, i submitted an unlock request to KCC through my mobile phone but got no response. Since i had not subscribed to your site by then and did not follow the right order of requesting for unlock, i concluded that was perhaps the reason why i got no response. Based on your advice after subscribing to your site, i sent a second unlock request through my mobile phone again on June 30th 2017 based on the sample you have displayed in the FAQ. It’s exactly 2 weeks now and i have still got no response from KCC.
1)- Can you suggest where the problem may be?
2)- Can KCC respond to a request without notifying you by means of email?
3)-Do you recommend that i send a 3rd request? And if so, should i try another medium other than my mobile phone?
Thanks Brits, and hope to hear favourably from you.
July 13, 2017 at 22:34
1. I have no idea because I don’t know what you sent.
2. Possibly.
3. You can send it again. Presumably you are sending an email.

Hello,
We used Romanian passport to get Green Card in 2015. Now we will be travelling using Canadian passport outside USA, because my son Romanian passport expired and his father did not renew it.
We have no time to renew his Romanian passport.
Will it be ok to use Canadian passports with the Green Card?
When we applied for green card we declared we are also Canadian citizens.
Thank you

Hi Brit
I’m a merchant and I have a commercial resgistration. No employer nor monthly salary. I’m quallified with high school diploma. But I filled out NOT EMPLOYED in DS260 because I have no idea about employer name and I didn’t explain anything.
Do I have to unlock my DS260? Or should I explain about my job to CO at interview date?
Thanks
June 27, 2017 at 04:34
Personally, I would want the most accurate DS260 possible. But it is your choice.

I had merely applied to study at university. It was online registration. I paid credits and I have ever had a student status. But I’ve never been to the campus to study. So, my student status have been terminated for 3 years already because according to regulations, if student do not apply ask the campus to maintain status more than 2 semesters, a student status would be terminated immediately. Should I input it in institutions?

Hi Simon,
Great effort, and i like reading the questions and your replies, it seems so many repetitive questions. can i ask you for a favor that might take some time from you, which is to create a post of reasons behind refusal of visa from the OC:
1- definite reasons
2-likely reasons
3- can go both ways.
Hope i explained myself well and as a 2018 DV selectee hoping for this valuable information for me and the rest. Thanks
June 27, 2017 at 14:35
People get refused because they lie, fail to follow instructions, or don’t meet the requirements. It really is that simple.
June 27, 2017 at 09:53
Hello Simon,
My spouse is in USA since last one and half year, she has applied asylum (With in one year of entry in USA) and her case is yet to be approved. We her husband and son are in Nepal, currently I am selectee of DV. I have filled DS-260 with quoting her current address at USA, her interview location is in USA and ours in Nepal, in this regards what is chance of getting visa for us (her husband and son).
June 27, 2017 at 14:31
Her case is complicated, but yours is not. So – your chance is normal. Follow the instructions. As for your spouse – I don’t know the best way to handle her case – speak to her lawyer about your DV win.

Hi Britsimonsays, I am Getahun from Ethiopia. I got important information from this blog. Thanks. I am DV 2018 winner. I have a problem uploading marriage certificate on Ds 260 while adding my spouse as derivative applicant. I tried my file in .jpeg and .pdf file formats and both were less than 2MB but none worked. I got this message after uploading the file.
Please correct the following error(s):

1. Your guess for the interview date ?
2. When can I expect 2NL ?
3. Do I have to wait with preparing documents until I know the interview date ?
4. Police records and document translations have to be obtained in certain time before the interview ? I mean can translations get “old” if I translate now ?

Hello BrittSmon,
I am about to have my interview as consular processing. I have all the papers ready, but I was wondering about one thing, do I need to provide a copy of my bacherlos degree diploma or the official transcripts will work?
Is there a link to the things I need to bring to the interview, I know you had an excel file for AOS.
Thank you in advance,
Juan
June 27, 2017 at 14:14
Yes you should take your degree.
The official instructions give a list of documents needed.
June 27, 2017 at 20:45
Thank you for your response. The embassy where I will be having my interview sent me this link for the instructions:

It doesn’t mention anything about my degree, is there another set of instructions I should follow? Please advise

Thank you not just for that 🙂

I qualify on both Education and Work Experience, I have all documents to cover both but I am required to qualify by just one (either… or….). Since I have filled details of both in DS 260, do I need to present evidence of what I put on the form to cover both? I feel it will be odd to fill DS 260 with eg. work experience details and not present documents to cover it even though you are seeking eligibility with education (whose document I will present as well)

I submitted my DS260 form on 14/06/17. I just noticed that for high school course of study, I am to state “academic”. Unfortunately, I stated General Science (which is the specific course of study).1. Do I need to unlock? 2. Would this cause disqualification or cancelation of interview schedule for my DV2018?

Hi Brit,
I am a 2018 selectee, what if i do not have anyone in the US, no family or friends who reside there, what do i do about the I-134, and in Amman Embassy we talked today and they said its a requirement. any helpful suggestions? am divorced with one son as a derivative.
June 28, 2017 at 17:01
An I-134 is the best suggestion. Failing that, having a large amount of savings (AT LEAST $10,000) might be enough to satisfy the requirement. More info here:

Hi sir. I have question to fill my ds260, help me pls. I have engaged in a dilemma about my name spelling errors. I never made double entry application on the edv. The questions are ;
1- I won with wrong sure name spelling- it is Mengesha on my degree but in my diploma it is Mengsha which used in the first edv entry. on the other hand, on my high school certificate I also used the wrong middle name with one spelling error. In short, my educational documents have spelling errors in English. But the institutions that I had attended are not volunteer to correct the mistake. so what shall I do?
2- what is the usage of using other name box in the ds260? Can I solve my problem by listing all my names/ by considering as the normal name due to spelling errors/ ?
Actually all are the same pronunciation and meaning in the native language/ Amharic, Ethiopian language.
The English translation of the other civil documents; birth and marriage certificates are similar with my degree. And my diploma /12+2/ and my new passport is similar to my original entry. And my high school certificate is different from the all documents although it is vital for visa approval in Ethiopia. so what shall I do to fill my ds260? Help me please. God bless bro.
June 28, 2017 at 16:27
1. Make sure the DS260 has the correct names that match the passport and birth cert. Then you might have to prove the education documents are yours, but the name is not established by the education documents.
2. Yes that is what it is for. If your school knew you by a different name – you should list that name as the “other name”.
June 28, 2017 at 13:50
Precillia.
My husband won 2018 but he play single at thiat time he was single but we are marry now can he put my name n our daughter name to kcc
June 28, 2017 at 15:03
Yes.
You mention “our daughter”. Was that child born prior to the entry and if so did he list the child on his entry?
June 28, 2017 at 21:25
Hi Simon,
First of all – thank you for this wonderful website!
I was hoping you’d be able to help me.
I was selected for further processing in this year’s diversity lottery (for 2018), my number is EU00012XXX. I already submitted my DS260 back in May (even though I had to have it unlocked again earlier this month as I just got a new passport – but that’s all done now and I’ve submitted it again with my new passport details).
So here’s my “problem”. I was planning on going on two short city trips to the USA this year – one in July and the second one in early September. I’m a bit worried as I’ve been reading horror stories from people who got into trouble at border control when they tried to enter as tourists as technically, it can proven that you have “immigration intent” when you have a pending visa application. So here are my three questions:
1. Since my case won’t start processing till the new calendar year in October 2017, from what I understand, do you think it will be ok for me to visit the States in July/September or could it cause trouble?
2. I remember there being a section in the DS260 asking about my last 5 visits to the United States. If I enter the United States again in July and September, will I have to unlock my DS260 to update my last 5 visits to include the July/September visits or will it suffice to just mention it at my interview at the embassy since on the date when I originally filled out my DS260, the information I entered was correct?
3. In order to travel to the United States, I will have to apply for an ESTA/tourist visa waiver. Am I ok to apply for an ESTA or could that cause problems with my green card application?
From what I understand it’s legal to enter the United States as a tourist while your petition is processing, but it’s up to the border control agent – I just don’t wanna risk losing my green card and ruining everything because of this, so if you have any more information, I would really appreciate it. Many thanks in advance!!!

1. No problem.
2. Updating is better, but if you don’t get ta chance to update the DS260 it won’t be a problem.
3. No problem in applying for an ESTA. Just be certain to answer questions correctly.
Really this is no problem. People do this all the time…

Hi! I’m from Liberia! My husband played for me last year n I won. Both of us played single each. Now, he want us to go together but he made a mistake on my date of birth. Precisely the year. Can I change it on the DS-260 Form?

You can.
However, when you say you both played single. You mean you were actually married at the time of eDV entry, but played as single? If so you will be disqualified.

Hi Brit!
Thanks for the response. I appreciate it. My question is not still answer. Can I change that year that he put in for me? Let say I was born 1994, and then he put in “1990”. Can this be change?

That doesn’t work. Do you have the jpg or pdf of the entry – as I believe you copied the confirmation number incorrectly.

The embassy in Khartoum performs DV interviews. If you live near there, KCC will schedule you at that embassy.
