Sorry Brit for asking you again , Only after complete process of DS260 the Dv winner receives the EAD or he/she may receive prior to DS260 process .Pls hep to know this matter
July 13, 2017 at 12:15
Your question makes no sense. For CP processing, you don’t get an EAD. For aos the DS260 is not the application for adustment of status. So, you seem confused.
July 13, 2017 at 15:57
Hello,
I am the main applicant and I got married and added my wife in the DS 260 as you mentioned in your articles.
After submitting the DS 260 for my wife i noticed that for her mother s name ‘ we put her married name instead of her ‘name given at birth’
Is it necessary to repoen the case ( a 3rd time in my case) ?
Or is it fine ?
Regards,
Thanks
July 13, 2017 at 22:35
It is wise to correct that since you probably have time to wait anyway.
July 13, 2017 at 16:24
hi Brit cau u please clarify I am USDV winner and filling my s260. My question is I have used my first and middle name only in my school certificates and my full names in passport so now how to fill “other names used section|” as I can’t leave the surname column blank Example
School Certificate : Vikash Kumar
Passport: Vikash Kumar Gupta
Do i need to fill “other name section” as technically name is same, If I have to what to fill in surname area ? as i can’t leave surname field blank in “other name scheme. Basically i just want to indicate that i have used the same name without surname earlier.
July 13, 2017 at 22:35
Your DS260 should have the full legal name that matches the passport and any other versions in the other names section.
July 13, 2017 at 16:51
Thank you very much for making us clear , sorry for our weakness in English language . I went through your links in regards to ” Current” and understood . Whereas “Except ” still not clear or confuse . It would be helpful if you could make clear in simple words .

July 14, 2017 at 09:51
Dear Brit,
I hope you are enjoying Europe. I just have a quick question. I am Brazilian and live in Germany my wife is german. When I moved here I had to translate all my documents into german (e.g. high school diploma, birth certificate and so on). My question is do I need to translate them in English? Or can I use the documents translate into german since my interview will be in Frankfurt? Please let me know thank in advance.
Best regards
ps: I am DVEU2018 selectee
July 14, 2017 at 12:31
The Frankfurt embassy will accept German or English translations.
July 14, 2017 at 09:55
Hello Simon! I am a winner of the DV 2018 from Europe. My case number is around 38700, so do u think it will be safe to take a visa ? What’s your opinion? Thank you in advance.

July 14, 2017 at 14:19
Hi
I’m 2018 DV winner.
My name in my passport is not the same in high school diploma. One letter is missing
Is it a problem ? How to deal with it ?
Kindly
July 14, 2017 at 17:33
The DS260 must have the correct name. The education document represents a small risk.
July 14, 2017 at 14:54
Hiya, sorry if this is in the comments section and I missed but is the interview time and date only sent by post? My address is a bit of a funny one and worried we will not receive it. Also if this is the case and I change my address by reopening my application will that affect my place in the processing que? Thank you for your help your website is amazing!
July 14, 2017 at 17:30
Interview appointments are sent by email/website link – never by mail.
Unlocking typically does not cause delays.
THe FAQ answers both those questions – please read it.
July 15, 2017 at 02:40
Is that apply for CP and AOS? We did fingerprinted 1 week ago and did no receive interview letter yet
July 15, 2017 at 06:28
No – my answers almost never include AOS processing. AOS is different.
July 14, 2017 at 16:29
Dear Simon
I just read about the I134 form is it mandatory for all the participant.
Can it be different from the person given in thé adress in US in the DS260
Can you clarify this please
Thanks
July 14, 2017 at 17:29
It can be from anyone in the USA.
https://britsimonsays.com/DV2018-basic-questions
July 14, 2017 at 19:32
I see but can that person be different from the one I mentioned on the ds260 as m’y adress when I arrive and where the final green card will be mailed
July 14, 2017 at 19:48
Yes
July 14, 2017 at 16:31
Hey Brit,
I hope you are fine.
Through the whole process of the Green Card Lottery I´ve asked you a lot of questions and now I have one more.
I got my visa approved on May and now in 2 months (within the 6 months time limit) I will fly to Miami to activate it.
I only have one week there, so regarding to all the formalities I will execute the selective service.
in the DS-260 I`ve ticked that they should assign me the SSN automatically. Now I´ve heard that in 90% of all cases this does not work at all.
Would it be possible to apply for the SSN there in the local SSN office with a mailing address in Miami although in the POE I will indicate a mailing address in Seattle?
I am asking that because I will relocate to the US finally in march or april 2018, and I want to have some proofs that I don´t want to abandon my permanent residence. I´ve heard that 6 month after the initial activation at the POE normally won`t cause trouble but I want to be on the safe side!
What would you recommend me?
Thanks and have a nice day,
Adrian
July 14, 2017 at 17:26
The 90% number is very incorrect. I recommend you relax.
July 14, 2017 at 18:20
Hello Britsimon
Hope you are doing Alright, already thanks for you answers actually i do have a question …
I have filled the ds-260 and after 3 months i figured out that the passport number i entered is not correct as it is not editable at the time, could you please mention about any solution in this regard, and let me know the effect on this matter?
thankss

Your case will be disqualified because you lied. You cannot transfer the win to anyone else.
July 14, 2017 at 20:27
Hello simon !
On present addres i put the street name and the palace name but not the number of apartment .there was no more place , this was the reason , only if i put on adres line 2.

Probably, yes.
July 14, 2017 at 21:14
I have unlocked twice .
Is there a probleme if i unlock after i get the interview date . By contacting the embassy .
Thank you in advance .
July 14, 2017 at 21:27
Once you have the 2NL KCC won’t unlock. The embassy might – but usually not.
July 14, 2017 at 20:46
Hi Brit
The date of birth which is in high school certificate not correct do u think it will be the problem
July 14, 2017 at 21:46

July 15, 2017 at 03:45
Hi Brit
I am one of randemly selected for dv 2018. But when Fill the application form my birth year was wrong.(10 year difference). So how can I correct my birth date before I fill the ds 260 form?
July 15, 2017 at 06:27
You can’t correct the lottery entry. But you can choose the correct date in the DS260.
July 15, 2017 at 04:39
Hi,
My question about the lottery sponsor. Right now my income low and i am able to apply for medicare health insurance. i had sponsor in my green card process so if i get health insurance is it going to affect my sponsor ? Let me know please.
Thanks
July 15, 2017 at 06:26
No.
July 15, 2017 at 06:28
Hi simon
Is there any opportunity to do visa adjustments for winners 2017 , who is in side USA ?? If yes when will be dedline for adjustments??
July 15, 2017 at 06:52
What do you mean by adjustments.
July 15, 2017 at 10:43
Adjustments application (form I -485)please
July 15, 2017 at 11:57
I don’t understand what you are trying to do. If you have submitted your I485, but are waiting for the interview, you can discuss changes at the interview.
July 15, 2017 at 07:09
Hi I used the address of one and used the name of one now we don’t talk . Can I change the person and his address in another state ? Thanks it is very important to me
July 15, 2017 at 07:51
Yes
July 15, 2017 at 07:57
Dear Simon.
I just unlocked 15 days ago my DS 260 make corrections and send it to the kcc and I just printed the Conformation page.
But still i can access my application form and see all details there. Why is that the kcc didn’t lock it again once it is corrected and submitted?
Further more I didn’t provide my name in my native language in the form and i just simply tick the box that said technology not applicable. Will that affect my application? Shall I write my name in my native language by going in to the edit details part as my application is still not locked?
Thank you for your good service Simon!
July 15, 2017 at 12:10
Once submitted, the form has a status of “COMPLETE”, and then you can see the form without being able to make changes.
No problem about the name.
July 15, 2017 at 12:29
Sorry I couldn’t understand to you ! I mean my brother is in Usa leagally and he had been selected Dv 2017 from Nepal but he is in high rank above 7450 what can he do ? Thank you !
July 15, 2017 at 14:38
Nothing. He has no further options for the DV lottery win, because his number will not become current.
July 16, 2017 at 01:19
Hello Brit. I am a DV 2018 selectee. my application was submitted over one month ago assisted by travel agency. I have reviewed the application after submission and noticed these mistakes
1- the contact number of my sponsor is written wrong.
2- the name of my sponsor is not mentioned (ticked on DOES NOT APPLY) however the sponsor is my sister.
3- the block number on my previous address is written wrong
I have referred back to the travel agency in regards to the above issues and they said there is nothing to worry about and its all minor issues but i do worry.
so my questions are:
1- should I request to unlock the application and fix that mistakes or there is no really need for such issues?
2- if yes then on my email to KCC requesting to unlock the DS will i have to mention all the points i want to amend or only one of them is enough then i do all once they unlock it?
3- if i unlock it will that cause any delay on my interview process or does it has any negative effect in the process ?
Thank you in advance
July 16, 2017 at 10:00
1. None of that is a big problem, but correct it if you want to.
2. You don’t have to tell KCC why you are unlocking – and can fix everything at the same time.
3. No
July 17, 2017 at 12:18
Thank you Brit. Do i have to use the same email address which is registered in the DS to email KCC or it will be ok to email them from different one as the travel agency registered their own email address on the application?
July 17, 2017 at 12:27
You can email from a different address.
July 19, 2017 at 22:25
Thank You Brit, I’ve dropped an email to KCC to unlock the DS. will I get a reply from their end to let me know or just to monitor the DS day by day to see if they unlock it already?
July 19, 2017 at 22:48
They will email
July 27, 2017 at 21:04
Hi Brit, is been almost 10 days now since i dropped email to KCC to unlock my DS 260 but so far no reply.
1- how long usually does it take?
2- should i email them again or shall i wait more and for how long ?
Thank you.
July 28, 2017 at 04:16
Up to 2 weeks.
July 15, 2017 at 15:06
Hi brit,CN 2017AF12754 im in USA now. So,Can you let me know how to chek my Green card process
July 15, 2017 at 15:46
Wait three months after you entered/paid. Amazingly they will do everything whether you check or not.
July 15, 2017 at 17:18
Hi musangu
Can you let me know how was the process for you : date of DS 260 submition then interview date I am a selectee from dv18 but way higher number than you around 51000 lol finger crossed
July 15, 2017 at 16:44
Dear BritSimon,
Thank you for your help so far.
DV2018. My sponsor is in fact going to be my future employer. If something goes wrong and I will decide to quit job after few months in US can my employer cancel the Affidavit of support ? If yes, that means that I’m bonded to be in good relationship with my sponsor for duration at least one year?
Thank you
July 15, 2017 at 19:06
No, the affidavit cannot be cancelled. However, neither can it be enforced, so it is irrelevant.
July 15, 2017 at 17:11
1. Did Hawaii judge rules grand parents only. ???
2. Or other relations such as grandchildren, brothers-in-law, did Hawaii judge rules grandparents only. -in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins are also included and accepted as a bona fide relationship

July 15, 2017 at 17:14
Hi Brit
Great help and effort.
I am 2018 DV winner, case number 2018AS6*** , ( I am not from Nepal) For one of my children the birth date on the passport is different by 3 days from his birth certificate, I filled the 5ES8 260 and submitted since May 11th, and put his birth date same as in passport, the question is would you advice me to unlock his form and correct or I just can explain that to the CO on interview date.
Many thanks
July 15, 2017 at 19:04
If the birth cert and the passport don’t match, there is something that needs to be ficed! Fix it – and then make the DS260 match.
July 15, 2017 at 20:13
Hi Brit,
One of my parents have won the DV lottery 2018,
I will be applying really soon for a F-1 visa will that affect my chances of getting the visa?.
July 15, 2017 at 21:04
Possibly. It is up to you to demonstrate ties to your home country that wil show that you don’t intend to stay in the USA. Your parents DV win might make that harder to convince a CO – but only marginally.
July 15, 2017 at 20:55
hi Brit thank you for all your assistance. if i rely on work experience to get a visa
1. do i need to show my high school proof at all?
2. do i need a letter of attestation from my current employer?
July 15, 2017 at 21:05
1. If you have that you should probably qualify that way.
2. Yes you will need that and other proof to fully establish your work experience and time of that experience. It is not easy to qualify on work experience.
July 15, 2017 at 21:05
Hi Brit after getting your visa if you did not travel then your medical examination report get expired but your visa is still up to date what would i do? Brit i am grateful for answering all my questions.
July 16, 2017 at 10:14
The visa expiry is set based on the medical expiry. So – your suggested situation would not happen. If the visa is not expired, you are fine to enter.
July 15, 2017 at 23:49
Hi brit.
I need yr help.
My high school diploma has a mistake on my birthday
Instead 1993, they s written 1992.
Will my case be disqalifi???.
July 16, 2017 at 10:01
Usually that would not be a problem.
July 16, 2017 at 11:15
Hi Simon, I have been selected for the DV2018 and so my wife as derivative too. My wife lived in Spain until the age of 25and then moved to Italy: has she then to ask for the criminal records and pending charges in both countries? Thanks very much!!
July 16, 2017 at 11:31
Yes. That is made clear ion the instructions – so you MUST study the instructions to avoid mistakes.
July 16, 2017 at 12:45
Long live Great BRIT!!
I am approved for the visa !!
Thankyou so much for your support …Your experiance Your Website is helping us alot…
The CO didnt ask me so much questions simply my and my parents name
And then i was asked to register to the US post office on selective millitery service
Then i was approved the visa it took about 1 hr(whole process)
And after approval i was asked to make a profile to get my visa(Courier service)
And then my status show as AP then in two days changed to issued now i have a question how many days will take in normal to courier the passport with visa to the pickup point(i wanna let you know my pickup point is about 1 km from EmbassyKDU).
July 17, 2017 at 05:17
Usually around 1 week.

July 16, 2017 at 16:07
Hi brit and Simon my name is mati my question is that about dv family interview my mother has her interview on March the 16 2017 after that her case was put under administration process then after 3 month they called her and sayed that they have refused her case because of qualifications in her 12 grade that she have qualified by 4 not by 5 so that he refused the case so what can we do
July 17, 2017 at 05:13
Nothing. The refusal is final and correct.
July 16, 2017 at 18:58
Hello,
I read all of your links&articles but still cannot find an answer to the following question: I understand that one has to prove a minimum of high school education degree in order for one’s application to be taken into account. I actually hold a Masters degree in France which I am able to prove( diplomas handy) but as far as my high school and secondary school degree go, I lost my certificates.
So do I still have to produce any proof of having obtained those certificates or does the fact to have reached a Msc is enough to cover the education check?
Thank you very much for your so valuable assistance:)
July 17, 2017 at 05:10
Technically you must show high school documents. Some CO’S (not all) insist on that even with higher degrees.
July 16, 2017 at 21:38
Hi Simon;
After A long process of the DV and A Long Wait in the U.S.(2 Months), I Have All The Docs(GC, SSN) In my Hand. Now A few Days ago i Was going through your site and i run into a post about credit building and opening a Credit Karma Account.
Now The Problem Is That When I Tried To Open the Account It Says It Couldn’t Verify My Identity Even Though I feed The Info Correctly! My Question Is What Could Be The Problem?? Can You Tell Me What I Am Doing Wrong Here?? Or Is There A Time You Can and Can’t open the Account After Getting your SSN??
July 17, 2017 at 05:06
That is normal. Your file is so new, there is nothing reported to the credit agencies. Get some basic credit and the file will build within a few months.
July 16, 2017 at 23:49
Hello brist
I submitted my ds 260 form on 15 may unlock it on 25may again unlock it on 23rd june and finaly submitted on 13th july
1:Is it going to afect my early processing
2;or unlocking does not affect late processing once it is submitted early i have no problem with that
July 17, 2017 at 05:00
Unlocking often doesn’t cause delays, but don’t focus on delays. You may have to wait for your number anyway.
July 17, 2017 at 04:51
Hello Brit!
After I unlocked the DS260 form and resubmitted, it got me a new confirmation letter different from the one I got on the first submit.
-What should I use for my interview the first one or the one after the unlock?
July 17, 2017 at 04:58
Either one.
July 17, 2017 at 06:51
Hi Brit,
I was wondering could you explain the missionary exception to me?
I am currently in the US on an OPT visa. I have a low European number of 6347 so guess I’ll be called early on.
However I was born in Gibraltar which is part of the UK which is ineligible. I lived there for about 8 months I think and my parents were working there for a while before I was born. They both carry only Irish passports (as do I) and they were both born in Ireland.
Will I have problems at the embassy interview? What documents or proof do I need to show?
Many thanks in advance,
Peter
July 17, 2017 at 09:20
You would need to prove the temporary nature of th eir stay in Gibraltar.
https://britsimonsays.com/country-of-chargeability-for-dv-lottery/
July 20, 2017 at 07:33
Okay I read that but any idea of exactly what kind of documents I need to show? Tax records, birth certs, passports? There’s not much of a paper trail 23 years later
July 20, 2017 at 13:32
If you want the GC you will use your imagination and resourcefulness. A sworn statement from your parents can also help.
July 17, 2017 at 07:52
Is second letter notification guarantee getting of second letter
July 17, 2017 at 09:17
Think about what you are asking. Please, use some common sense.
July 17, 2017 at 07:57
One get married in 2015 and till the time of ds260 was married. Now divorced. What are the documents one need to present in the interview
July 17, 2017 at 09:16
This is common sense. Divorce papers and possibly marriage papers along with all the usual documemts.
July 17, 2017 at 09:28
Hello Brit!
In my DS260 form I filled all the names of my schools in my native language not in english.
For example: I filled my university name as “Veleuciliste Sveuciliste u Zagrebu”.
-Do I need to unlock and change it to english?
July 17, 2017 at 09:36
In eglish it would be “Polytechnic Univerity of Zagreb”
July 17, 2017 at 09:59
It’s your choice.
July 17, 2017 at 10:09
Yes, but I have submitted the form, Is it worth to unlock for this reason? And if I leave it as it is (in my native language) is it going to cause any problems, for my DS processing and interview?
July 17, 2017 at 10:11
So you made a choice. Now relax.
July 17, 2017 at 10:15
Please can you be more straightforward. Is it going to cause any problem or not?
Thank you very much and sorry for the questions, Im just stresed out.
July 17, 2017 at 10:24
Obviously not. I wouldn’t have said it was a choice, would I.
July 17, 2017 at 10:21
Hi Brit
Thanks for your tremendous efforts given everyday.
1] I am a winner of 2018 dv and my case number is 2018AF000247** i want to ask if it is safe?

You can travel before your visa expires, even if after Sept 30. However, waiting until the last two days is foolish. What if your flight is delayed/cancelled – you lose the GC!!

Hi brit,
I’ve been living for a more than 2 years in a city where I’m currently living. But I’ve changed my address within the same city for like 3 times in these two years.
At my ds260 in address section, I’ve just mentioned the city’s name and address where I’ve been living now. Do you think I need to update all those previous addresses at ds260??
And thank you very much for all your previous responses.

Normally being accurate is the best way.
