Hi Simon, I have a few questions regarding the legal mandate of the panel physician. Kindly help me understand whether:
1. Is the panel physician’s responsibility to conduct medical exams?
2. If during the medical exam, an applicant tests TB positive, does the panel physician have the exclusive right to treat the applicant?
3. If the exam reveals TB positive and the applicant decides to get treatment elsewhere and returns to a different panel physician in the same country, will the embassy reject the results?
Thanks!

1. What an odd question!

hi Brit,Iam a DV 2018 winner and just got married after selection.my spouse will not be joining me because it is expensive for the two of us to undergo the process simultaneously and we have no host who can accommodate the two of us.I plan to stay with a friend while in the USA so we decided she may join me in future.I wanted to update my ds-260 form to reflect my new marital status from single to married but was not sure if i should also contact KCC to inform them of my change of status or the ds 260 form update is just enough.
July 24, 2017 at 13:11
Updating the DS260 does inform KCC.

Hello Simon,
I’m a selectee of DV2018. I have finished the secondary school (academic), but also I’m graduated at University.
At DS-260 Form I have described all the work experiences in details (because the work that I do, needs qualification). I have mentioned the details of the work NOT for the reason, to qualify by work
(with experience over 2 years), because I meet the 100% of the requirements ONLY through EDUCATION.
Is this a problem for the CO on the Interview Day? Should I request UNLOCK to KCC, in order to do
the necessary changes (to remove the details of the work experiences)?
Thank you very much
July 24, 2017 at 13:12
No problem.
July 24, 2017 at 13:08

July 24, 2017 at 13:22

Hi Brit
I am DV2018 selectee I have a question regarding the police record
I lived in France from 2000 to 2009 I know I should produce that record but France authorities can only produce that document for those currently living there or those holding valid ID or permanent resident card which obviously I do not have
In case of interview how can I explain that to the CO and what impact it can have on the whole visa issuance
Thank you
July 24, 2017 at 13:38
Follow the instructions!

July 24, 2017 at 14:37
Hi Brit
The date of birth on high school certificate is not correct but the complete name and national id is ok do u think it will be a problem if the winning based on high school
But the date birth on passport is ok also on national id
July 24, 2017 at 14:53
It would normally be OK.
July 24, 2017 at 15:27
Shallom Simon, any difference between family based visa vs immigrant visa(DV) applications? I read U.S embassy, Addis Ababa pre-interview checklist and it says that ” for family based visa application, the appropriate form I-864 affidavit of support for each financal sponsor along with a photocopy of the sponsor’s IRS transcript or most recent U.S federal income tax return, and any relevant W-2s” Does this mean that it is also applicable for DV applicants too?
July 24, 2017 at 15:47
Yes there is a difference. For DV cases they cannot ask for an I-864, but can ask for an I-134. https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
July 24, 2017 at 15:52
Hi brit thanks for your help. I have a question about visa.

July 24, 2017 at 16:26
Hello Simon,
Thanks very much in helping us understand the process of going through the DV Lottery system. I need you to please clarify this, at the time of the DV Entrant I never mentioned of having a child, I want to fill DS260 form including the child but I don’t want to travel with the child because of financial constraint.
1. Would this be a good idea of including him? or should I leave it blank and later on file for the child if opportune to get the visa?
I really need your advice on this
July 24, 2017 at 16:31
Was the child already born when you entered the lottery? If so, you broke the rules and you will be disqualified.

Hi Brit Simon, Thank you for your help!
is it ok that i wrote in DS-260 that I visited only in US, but when i visited in US i arrived by flights from differnt country where i am living, because i just took a flights from differnt country for Transit and conecting flight via cuntries in Europe and not direct from my country?
I have been there only in the airport.
Thank you again!
July 24, 2017 at 19:35
It doesn’t matter where you came via – the point is the visit. If you answered that accurately, then there is no problem.
July 24, 2017 at 18:30
Hi britsimon,
I hope you’re doing well. And thank you very much for all your previous responses.
I have one more question for you.
Does high blood pressure causes visa rejection or do I fail medical test if I have high blood pressure??
July 24, 2017 at 19:36

My wife did an entry for Dv 2017 – 2018 year. Fortunately I have won the lottery. But problem is that during entry she entered my first name wrong. Instead of ( MIKE ) she entered ( MIAKE ). Now what should I do before processing my Dv lottery for interview?
July 25, 2017 at 02:56
Enter the correct name on the DS260. Just that.
July 24, 2017 at 23:14
Do you think there will be a second draw ! And if there will be dv 2019
July 25, 2017 at 02:55
No second draw. DV2019 will go ahead.
July 25, 2017 at 01:37
Hi Simon! Thanks for the job!
I am a 2018 DV selectee (CN AF49XX). I have a US 3 YEARS TOURIST VISA (B1-B2) since april 2016, but have not been in the US yet. Do you think it would be wise to validate that visa (by travelling to the US), before going to the interview?
July 25, 2017 at 02:54
That doesn’t matter one way or the other.
July 25, 2017 at 02:37
Hi Brit, i was just charged by the police for over speeding on the road. Im a dv 2018 winner. Will that affect my interview.

Thank you for your help.

July 25, 2017 at 14:25
Hi Simon,
My husband and I are DV2017 winners and recently got our visas in the passports.
A few questions:
1. The address we listed as mailing address for the green cards is not where we plan to settle, simply where we have long time friends who will receive the green cards for us as we still figure out where to move to. Is this OK, or do we need to change the address at POE? We still don’t have a permanent address.
2. Can you confirm it is acceptable for the first ‘trip’ to the USA to only stay a few days to activate the visas (within 6 months), return to your home countries and permanently move within 1 year? We still have a few things to take care before permanently moving.
3. The stamp on the I-551 will allow us to re-enter, correct, without the physical green card?
4. So we don’t need to ask our friends who will receive the green card in the mail to send it to us overseas? Can we re-enter with the I-551 visa stamp, given it’s within 12 months?
Thanks,
Sofia
July 25, 2017 at 14:46
1. That is OK
2. Confirmed.
3. Yes
4. ….

Hi Simon
I’m single. No spouse nor children.
i just want to know that Is 14,500$ in saving accout enough for one person to travel and live in the States?
I cannot declare I-130 because I have no sponser. I don’t know any US citizen there. So, i will sponser myself. I’m just 24. I’m qualified with high school diploma. I’m a merchant, self-employment,for half a decade since I graduated from high school.
Embassy – Bangkok, Thailand
A bit nervous.
Thank You
July 25, 2017 at 14:43
In most embassies and most cases, that would be enough. But it is up to the CO that interviews you.
July 25, 2017 at 15:36
Hi BritSimon,
First of all, I’d like to thank you so much for creating this Blog in the first place. The information provided truly is helpful. I was able to get most of my initial questions answered just by reading your site.
Now, I do have some additional questions, but before that, let me explain my situation a little bit.
I am currently working in the USA, on H1B Visa. My Spouse is a student, on the F1 Visa. We got married (in Chicago) last year, a few months before we entered the DV-2018. My wife was selected as one of the lucky ones and we have just submitted our DS-260s (for each of us).
We’re planning to do AoS as we’re already here, in the States.
Now, reading what you’ve written, you also took the AoS route and it took longer than expected.
Would you be able to share a little bit more about your experience? I’m particularly interested in:
– If you could describe a little bit of the timeline / what happened after the 2NL until you received the Green Card (you mentioned you only received your GC around end of September).
– What should I expect/anticipate if I decide to go for the AoS route?
– Once we get the 2NL, we (my wife and I) will go together to one same Interview (as opposed to attending two separate interviews)?
– When filling out the DS-260, we selected USCIS as the interview location (because we wanted to do AoS), does it mean we’ll be interviewed at the USCIS location in Chicago (where we currently live)?
– Anything else/advice pertaining to processing GC via AoS.
Again, I really appreciate everything you’ve done for us! You’ve been great help to many of us!
July 25, 2017 at 15:48
AOS is specialized. I could tell you about my case – but that is just one person’s experience – it is better to look at multiple cases. So – take a look at the link below. The spreadsheet linked from the first post in the thread shows timelines for many cases, and has full info on how to process your case. Read that, and then any further questions can be added to that thread. I read those, but more importantly “SM1smom” reads and responds there – and she is the best resource for DV AOS cases.
http://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2018-aos-only.336256/
July 25, 2017 at 15:52
Thanks for the information and the link! You rock, as always! =)
July 31, 2017 at 07:17
I will also be doing AOS. Would you like to exchange emails to further discuss this?
July 25, 2017 at 17:36
Hi Sir
My question is me and my family entered US and got our passports stamped (I 551 stamp) but we had to leave there after three weeks. The CBP officer gave us a paper that indicated the stamp is proof of permanent resident status for one year. Right now I am outside of the US and I want to come back to the US in two weeks. Meanwhile my actuall plastic green card was mailed to the address we gave to them while I was outside of the US. My question is:
1.Can I enter the US with that stamp eventhough they mailed my green card already?(Obviiously I wasn’t there to recieve it, and tge stamp is valid it was endorsed on 5th of july of 2017)
2.Is entering the US with endorsed MRIV problmatic? I heard some negative things about it on the internet like they always send you to the secondary inspection to make sure the stamp is legit…?Should I be worried ?
3. My last questiom is I am currently 20 years old and I recieved LPR as DV3 is it OK that I travel to US alone while my parents are outside of the US I have to travel sooner because my college will start soon and I cant wait for them to move to the US together.
July 25, 2017 at 17:51
1. Yes
2. No problem.
3. No problem.
July 25, 2017 at 19:36
Hi simon, my mom n I won dv 2018 but I want to follow her later in the US.can it be ?I’m 18.
July 26, 2017 at 19:11
Once she is in the USA she could sponsor you – but that will take a couple of years and cost more money than doing it through the DV process.
July 27, 2017 at 05:14
Pls,could you specified the amount to me?
Will my blood have match my father?
July 25, 2017 at 20:48
Dear Brit .
i have taken 2 month under Administration process after my intervie under the DV lottery Visa .
1 The ipdated my case three times and the last update is about a month ago which worrsome .what is the issue for them to stop updating my case?
2.As the embassy already taken a decision of refusal without informing me .
3.Will the embassy contact me or not ?
4 .Do i need to contact the embassy to know about my case status .
regards
David
July 26, 2017 at 19:12
1. I advise people not to read anything into the updates.
2. I don’t know.
3. Yes.
4. If you want.
July 25, 2017 at 21:56
hi mr simon
I sent e mail to open the ds260 application and opened my application but did not open the application for the wife and there are errors. what should I do?
thanks
July 26, 2017 at 19:13
You have to ask KCC to open her DS260.
July 25, 2017 at 23:10
Greetings from Guinea and thanks for the great job!
I am 2018 DV selectee with CN AF49XX. I am worring about 3 points and please, I would like you to clarify them for me:
1- Should I need to fill in and sign now the Military Service form (DS1810) for my son who is only 3 years old?
2- I was born in Cote d’Ivoire and I left that country in the age of 15. So since that age I am living in Guinea where I am presently working. Should I be asked any Police Record from Cote d’Ivoire at the interview? (Police record in my thinking is for ereas one has been living since the age of 16, if I am not mistaken)
3- Since both parents are dead, should I be asked their death certificates?
Thanks in advance for answering me.
July 26, 2017 at 19:14

Hi Brit
I am DV2018 selectee I have a question
1// I complete my ds-260 for my family but my son don’t have passport I put the name in English is this problem if i will make to him one and bring it in interview ?
2// my case number is 2018AS13×××
Did I will have interview?
Thanks
July 26, 2017 at 19:18
1. Use your passport number for your son’s DS260 – and obtain the passport before the interview.
2. You have a long time to wait and some risk since your case number is quite high.
July 27, 2017 at 06:33
The problem i finish ds-260 and I don’t put my passport number in my son Ds-260 what will I do ? Pls give me any advice.
July 27, 2017 at 08:56
Unlock and correct the DS260 when you can.
July 27, 2017 at 22:43
Hi Ahmed,
I am also a winner of dv 2018, my case number is AS129**, I am from Afghanistan, people say this is a risky number, you might not receive an interview appointment, is this correct have you heard anything like this?

HI SIR,
I am a winner of dv2018 but with case number AF44xx but have not yet fill the ds260 due to the fact that i had a spelling erro on my name in my id card i have to make a new one. right now i have to wait for about 3months for the original to be out before proceeding with my passport that may take an additional 2 months. have i loss my chance or i should continue?? am hopeless now
July 26, 2017 at 19:22
That delay doesn’t matter at all, but I don’t know why you are not completing your DS260 – you only need it for interview – and that won’t happen for MONTHS yet.
July 26, 2017 at 09:04
hi Simon

2. Yes
July 26, 2017 at 12:13
Dear Simon
We will activate our Greencard in the middle of August 2017 in New York. After that we will fly back to switzerland.
In October 2017 we planned Holidays in Nevada and we will also return to switzerland. We want to immigrate definietly to the US in the middle of 2018.
Could we get problems because of the long duration? Or is this accepted by immigration officers? Many thanks for your help.
July 26, 2017 at 19:39
It’s not a problem.
July 26, 2017 at 14:56
Hi Brit, I admire the level of maturity in ur replies. …”I haven’t had time to work on numbers and I prefer to not predict final numbers these days, but some regions are obviously over selected.”… the above quote is you, Brit.
1- does it mean 45*** for 2018AF region is probably not the final numbers?
2- is there interview hope for 2018AF467**?
3-since my marriage certificate is on an A3 format paper and scanners for that length of paper doesn’t exist in my area, only A4 paper format scanners are available, can I photocopy the marriage certificate to zoom it on an A4 paper format before scanning it to upload and add my spouse as a derivative?
Thanks brother.
July 26, 2017 at 19:49
I answered 1 and 2 already.
3. Yes.
July 26, 2017 at 18:34

July 26, 2017 at 19:55
You don’t have to pay to check your entry.
July 26, 2017 at 19:42
Hi Simon
I was Dv 2017 winner and I want for interview but I was refuse visa. Fortunately my wife also entered Dv 2018 for me and was selected ( winner ). Now I will like to know 1. Can I process the Dv 2018 ? 2. Will I be refuse again because I have win twice? 3. Will it be a problem because my first name was entered wrong by wife instead of Richard , it was Richiard?
Please advise me.
Thanks
July 26, 2017 at 19:53
1. Yes
2. Not for that reason – but whatever caused the first refusal might be a factor again.
3. No – unless that was because of multiple entries.
July 26, 2017 at 19:49
since my marriage certificate is on an A3 format paper and scanners for that length of paper doesn’t exist in my area, only A4 paper format scanners are available, can I photocopy the marriage certificate to zoom it on an A4 paper format before scanning it to upload and add my spouse as a derivative?

I don’t know. I would be inclined to believe what USCIS said.

July 27, 2017 at 08:54
That could cause a problem – it will be up to the CO.

Dear Sir, thanks again for your valuable advice. I have been in Singapore for 3 days back in 2004 and in India for around a week twice in 2015 & 16. Do I need to mention those visits and get police clearance certificates from those countries? Thanks & regards
July 27, 2017 at 14:42
What do the instructions say?
July 27, 2017 at 15:11
Thanks for the reply Sir. As I realised no need to mention such short stays. But I feel that it is advisable to get your advice. Thanks
July 27, 2017 at 15:52
Most important is that you read the official instructions!
July 27, 2017 at 16:04
I found such an instruction while filling D260. Shall I insert those visits too and apply for PCC? Thanks
July 28, 2017 at 04:25
Your DS260 needs to be accurate. You already read the instructions so you don’t need to ask about PCC.
July 28, 2017 at 04:40
Thanks for the reply Sir.
This is the instruction I found in D260 when I filled it. //Previous addresses should only include those addresses at which you established a residence (for example on campus housing where you lived for an academic term at your college or university) and should not include places at which you were temporarily present (for example a hotel at which you stayed for vacation)//
Have I done anything wrong by not mentioning my temporary foreign visits which I mentioned early?
Regards

When you read the instructions – you don’t need to ask me what you just read in the instructions!
July 28, 2017 at 05:06
Sorry about disturbing you Sir. Best regards

Hello Simon, Hope you’re doing great. So ,I got selected for the dv2018 and my case number sits at AF49xxx . I’ve read on one of your posts that, cases less than or equal to AF45xxx have nothing to worry about regarding interview. I also had a look at the visa bulletins for the past few years that you uploaded here. I’m not here to ask you if I’m save or not but to be clarified on these two issues :
1) is it possible for my case number to go current and I don’t end up being interviewed because my country has exceeded its visa quota?(I’m from a limited country by the way)
2) Given that case numbers < AF50000 have always gone current for the past years ,should I use this as a sole indicator of my case being surely interviewed ?
July 27, 2017 at 14:37
1, Which country???
2. If that were true my earlier article wouldn’t have shown 45XXX, would it?
July 27, 2017 at 11:37
Good morning sir,
Please a have a question regarding marital status,
I entered DV on Novembre 2016 as Divorced because i had court judgement on August 2016 but i didn’t have divorce decree, i knew only the day of court judgmenet of divorce, now since i been submitted DS260 i entered Divorced and date of August 2016, if i want to get the divorce decree now, it will like date of delivery ‘TODAY’, and date of judgement August 2016.
Is it okey? or will it cause a problem?
Thanks
July 27, 2017 at 14:35
THat sounds like you were not divorced then. You either were or were not. Which is it!
July 27, 2017 at 14:44
Hello Sir,
Actually, my lawyer informed me that the final judgement of the divorce is announced by the court in 20 AUGUST 2016, the date in my divorce decree is 20 AUGUST 2016 AND the date of obtaining the decree is today’s date, it means that i knew that i was divorced since AUGUST 2016 but i didn’t have the document that shows i’m divorced until today’s date.
Thank’s in advance,
July 27, 2017 at 14:46
I mean that both dates are mentionned, is it okey?!
July 27, 2017 at 15:52
I would think so – although I am not an expert on divorce in your country.
July 27, 2017 at 11:58
Mr.Simon
Apleasant Day!
we fill The DS260 but me and my wife we fill incorrectly about the EDUCATION AND WORK we informed KCC then they unlocked it We corrected it .it was really major mistake and cause of denial if processed. but now all information is correct
is any problem ?
July 27, 2017 at 14:33
I don’t think so – although you haven’t told me why this was such a huge mistake.
July 27, 2017 at 16:28
Hi Simon.
I have a son who is 29 years old I did not include him in the application of the visa lottery because obviously he is over 21 years old, should I include him in the ds260? Can embassy officials think I lied because in the application of the visa lottery I said I had no children?
July 28, 2017 at 04:23
Yes include him in your DS2609 – that will not cause a problem.
July 27, 2017 at 17:14
Hi Simon,
I’m sorry to bother you again with yet another question. I’m increasingly growing concerned about whether or not my high school education qualifies or not. As I’ve mentioned before, I dropped out of high school one year before graduating back in the day, but was still able to go to university thanks to the school system in my country and now have completed a four-year university course and a university degree.
From what I understand, even though I have a higher degree than high school, it will not be enough as I don’t have the minimum degree which would be a high school diploma.
So I thought, ok, no problem – I can easily retake my final high school exams and get my high school diploma this fall. But I’m more and more worried that they will not accept it, as I will have re-taken the exam as an “external student” and I’m unsure about whether or not that counts as a formal course of study for them.
My high school diploma will have the exact same wording as the high school diploma of an ordinary high school student and will clearly state that I “hereby completed a higher secondary education and am therefore authorized to attend university.”, but it will say that I was an external student in my final year. Could this be a problem? Do you think it would be a good idea to bring a letter from my school or the department of education in my country to my interview in order to confirm that it has the same value as any normal high school diploma in my country would?
Many thanks in advance!
July 28, 2017 at 04:22
The only way you will know for sure is when the CO makes a decision. They can accept the higher degree, or be picky about the high school. I cannot speculate the decision – you just have to prepare as well as you can and take your chance.

Dear Simon,
First of all congrats for your amazing blog (seriously how on earth are you dealing with all that stuff?)
Jokes aside I would like to ask you some questions.
We got married with my wife (principal selectee & winner of the DV2018) some weeks ago and we just sent the email to unlock the application.
Therefore:
1. What documents should I provide as additional member (I ask because I read for example that the education requirements are not necessary for me, although we graduated from the same uni). (Just to mention that we have different nationalities and the interview will take place at her country).
2. When she submitted the DS260 she didn’t mention that we lived briefly (for 6-7 months) in my country. Should we add this info once the application is unlocked?
3. Since we were together from the university years, is there anything we should pay attention to for proving our relationship is real? I don’t see how it can be there any doubt, but since you have heard for so many cases, I would like to know if there would be anything I should know.
4. Is there an additional cost for the spouse regarding the application? Any extra fee?
5. Is there a minimum amount of money a couple should have in a bank account or something like that?
Sorry for the long post but many thanks in advance for your response and for all the helpful info your blog is providing in order to distress us.
Have a great one.
Georgios
