Hi Simon,
We have recently travelled to the US after submitting our DS260 in May for DV2018. Do we need to update our DS260 on travel history to US? Should we unlock our forms? Many thanks!
August 5, 2017 at 00:32
Either way.
August 5, 2017 at 01:17
Thanks!
And I have one more question. In my application, my husband and my kids are derivatives. For some reason my husband might not want the visa if granted next year ,although we might not get it anyway given our number AS9xxx.
My question is,
1. can I at this stage remove his DS260 from the application?
2. And how? Anything to pay attention?
3. Will it sound weird especially during the interview and lower our chance of approval?
Thanks again for maintaining this excellent site!
August 5, 2017 at 01:38
1. No. You cannot remove his application – but if he doesn’t want tp proceed he simply doesn’t attend the interview.
2. N/A
3. It might cause some concern for public charge grounds.
August 5, 2017 at 02:06
May I know what is public charge grounds? Thanks

Hello Brit pls my interview will be held next week n I did stated also in my ds260 as a holder of diploma buh it’s been a year now graduation hasn’t been done so my transcript and Cert isn’t ready. Do I have to explain to the Co this way if I should be asked any document or what other document can I tak to proof if being asked?
August 6, 2017 at 14:50
They will want the certificate – or independent confirmation of the final result.
August 5, 2017 at 03:12
Hi Brit, In the DS 260 form should i include the country code to my contact number as well to the contact number of the companies where i been working before?
Thank you
August 5, 2017 at 06:20
Up to you.
August 6, 2017 at 01:05
Thx alot Brit, just one more question please.
in all my previous work I have written in the DS the month and year only with no specific dates including even working in other country as well, will that be ok or do I have to amend it all and to be specific and include the dates for all my previous work record?
Note. Iam qualified through education
Thank You.
August 6, 2017 at 01:55
No problem.
August 5, 2017 at 02:55
1. Do you mean that they might be concern that if my husband won’t go together, we might need to rely on social welfare?
2. My husband will be able to support us and we don’t have needs for social welfare. Can I explain this if being asked in interview?
3. If my husband, as derivative , doesn’t show up in interview, will the application of other family members be denied?
Sorry about so many questions!
August 5, 2017 at 03:00
Thanks for giving me the link!
August 5, 2017 at 03:08
So if we can provide sufficient financial proof, even my husband doesn’t attend the interview, I suppose it won’t cause any problem in the approval process? Please correct me if I am wrong. Thank you so much!
August 5, 2017 at 06:20
I can’t say with certainty.
August 5, 2017 at 07:48
Thanks for your advice! I guess the safest way is for my husband to attend the interview and get the visa first.
August 5, 2017 at 03:04
1. Yes – and perhaps have a harder time in general…
2. Yes
3. I already answered.
August 5, 2017 at 04:01
Hello Brit!
I have submitted the ds260 since june (DV2018).
Currently Im moving to a new address, that is near and in the same city as my current address (obviously the one I filled at DS260 form).
1- Should I unlock to put my new address, even though its in the same city and state?
2- Does it affect my interview?
Thanks
August 5, 2017 at 06:21
1. Yes
2. No

Hello dear simon my case number is the 2018AF13xxx I validated my ds 260 on May 26 is I want to make changes on unlock my ds260
I’m afraid it will delay my interview at the Consulate
cordially
August 5, 2017 at 09:59
As always delay is much better than denial!
August 5, 2017 at 14:51
Why are you afraid. Unlocking doesn’t usually cause delay, but even if it did put back your interview by a month – that is no problem. RELAX!

August 5, 2017 at 14:50

3. Is my dream to win one the golden opportunity to be in USA so please kindly update me on that. let me know if it is cancelled by trump. thank you
August 5, 2017 at 14:45

August 5, 2017 at 12:06
Hi Brit,
I am DV 2018 winner. I have three derivatives. That is my wife and two kids. My questions are:
1.I want to go with my wife and later come for my kids, but i will go to the interview with the kids. Will the kids get their visa if i get mine.
2. Will I be disqualify if the kids are not going with me. Because I want to reduce the problem of publicly charge.
August 5, 2017 at 14:44
1. Yes – but each will have up to 6 months to enter the USA for the first time.\
2. No – but your reasoning is silly. Not taking the children doesn’t change public charge requirements.
August 5, 2017 at 13:59
Hi Brit, I have a question regarding the visa bulletin numbers. Our DV2018 number is EU17***. According to the historical bulletin numbers, we can expect to be scheduled for an interview in Feb/Mar. Does this mean that we will get the interview notification itself in Feb/Mar or will it be earlier, say Dec/Jan? I just wasn’t able to quite grasp this point, thank you for your help.
August 5, 2017 at 14:39
2NLs are sent about 6 weeks before the interview month. So – October interviews will get 2NLs in late August.
August 5, 2017 at 15:07
Hi Brit I am DV selectee of 2018. I am from AS region and case number is 2018AS000006**. Accordingly. I have filled my DS-260 but few days later I found mistake in my DS-260.
1. I studied in Bangladesh and my date of exit from this country after study was May 1st but I mentioned April in DS-260. Is this a big problem ?
2. I requested KCC by email to unlock my DS-260 so that I can make the possible correction but KCC informed me that they can no longer unlock the application as my case number is now current for interview processing, It means I will get my 2NL ?
3. They also mentioned in the email that I should contact to the counselor of your region for the correction during the interview period, If I request this will effect in my Visa processing ?
August 5, 2017 at 15:57
1. No
2. Yes
3. No
August 5, 2017 at 16:08
Hi Britsimon
I recently contacted the Kcc and they sent me the following information so I thought I’d share.
For October, immigrant numbers in the DV category are available to qualified DV-2018 applicants chargeable to all regions/eligible countries as follows. When an allocation cut-off number is shown, visas are available only for applicants with DV regional lottery rank numbers BELOW the specified allocation cut-off number:
AFRICA: 8,500 Except: Egypt 2,350
Ethiopia 2,100
ASIA: 1,200 Except: Iran 750
Nepal 750
EUROPE: 2,600
NORTH AMERICA: 2
OCEANIA: 185
SOUTH AMERICA: 190
The Visa Bulletin at http://www.travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/law-and-policy/bulletin.html is updated monthly and contains the current allocation cut-off numbers as well as other important information.
Interviews for the DV 2018 program will begin in October 2017 and will conclude on September 30, 2018. KCC cannot provide information as to when an interview date may become available for your case. Interviews are scheduled numerically according to assigned case numbers which have completed processing. The Department of State designates how many interviews will be scheduled each month according to visa availability. You may refer to the visa bulletin at http://www.travel.state.gov for the list of current numbers. This information is updated on the 15th day of each month thereafter.
August 5, 2017 at 16:18
Wow – that is interesting. That *looks like* the VB numbers – so it might be correct. I’m going to create an update about that in the next few minutes. Thank you!
August 5, 2017 at 16:58
You’re famous!
https://britsimonsays.com/possible-early-notice-first-dv2018-visa-bulletin/
August 7, 2017 at 03:06
Hi Fayola,
did the KCC mention this is first visa bulletin or anything else?
how accurate would this be in your opinion?
August 7, 2017 at 11:28
No they didn’t. This was all the information I received. The rest pertained to my enquiry.
August 5, 2017 at 17:11
Hello I’ve seen ur post and am from Ethiopia and my case number is A00017500 so tell me I will be in the 2100 chosen people’s
August 5, 2017 at 17:14
You misunderstand. That means case numbers below 2100 will be interviewed in October. The number will increase each month over the 12 months of the year. You will get your chance, you must be patient.
August 5, 2017 at 17:19
Okay so if u can guess in November will it be till 5000 or above from the last year experience
August 5, 2017 at 17:22
Wait and see
August 5, 2017 at 17:23
Sure thank you Simon
August 5, 2017 at 17:47
Hi Brit, please if possible help me with something. I am helping someone else to fill the form ds-260 she is 50 years old she is married and she has a daughter 26 years old and 22 years old son. Should they add them in the children section on the ds-260 form or only the spouse infomation and write 0 on the children section
August 5, 2017 at 18:01
The children should be listed on the DS260 for both her and the spouse.
August 5, 2017 at 18:24
I have the concern because my cousin has a daughter who is applying for asylum in USA, if she lists her daughter on the DS-260 a states her address (in the USA) is there any chance that the visa issuance for her will be affected because of “out of status” of her dauhgter?
Thanks
August 5, 2017 at 18:32
No problem.
August 5, 2017 at 18:57
Hi brit i my wife and three kids will be going for visa interview on the 17th August what is your general advice to us

August 5, 2017 at 22:09
what if she signs it after which scan it and send it through email
August 5, 2017 at 22:30
Then that won’t be the original signature!

I read about three post of family having children 18yrs n above being put on Ap,the other with four children was actually denied from Saudi Arabia.
My question is what measure embassies are using to determine ages since some people grow faster than their age?
August 5, 2017 at 22:27
Birth certificates.
August 5, 2017 at 21:33
Criteria, omit those zéros when submitting that form.

I already have a green card and I have moved to another city for job and will be staying there for a year. Should I change my address?
August 6, 2017 at 00:19
Yes.
August 6, 2017 at 00:57
Hello simon ,
I m green card holder from DV 2016 and I m here in USA for 8 months , now I wanna to go back my home to finish my study ( I postponed it for one year before I come here ) which will take 2 years , my family with stay in USA , just me come back so I heard about Re-entry permit and also heard about advance parole , what is your advice to protect my green card ?
I ll also pay the tax from my home country .
Dose that affect my future citizenship?
I m confused
Is the Re- rentry permit a good option and will it protect my GC ?
Thank you in advance the great Simon
August 6, 2017 at 01:54
The I-131 will give you UP TO 2 years out of the USA. That resets the 5 year clock for citizenship.
August 6, 2017 at 02:45
Hi,
Im in Australia and my partner has been offered a work visa for America. My case number is in the 14xx, which isn’t great as there is some risk. So Im trying to figure out the best thing to do- If I go over on my partners work visa as his spouse, will that affect my own application and interview scheduling? Could I fly back to Australia to attend my interview if a time ends up getting sent through? If we get married and I update my application Info, will they look
at him still as a dependant as he has his own American Visa?
I apologise if this came out a bit jumbled and I appreciate any advice you can offer.
Thank you
August 6, 2017 at 03:12
Yeah – it’s a bit jumbled.
To be a spouse you have to be married. If you get married, your spouse can receive a GC through your win. Travelling back to Australia will be safest, because you will otherwise be entering the USA with immigrant intent. That would be OK if your *husband* is offered an H1 (as that is a dual intent visa).
August 6, 2017 at 08:50
Is Guam considered a legitimate port of entry for DV holders ?
August 6, 2017 at 14:45
Guam is a POE – but I am not certain of any special rules that may affect immigrant processing there. So – decide for yourself.
August 6, 2017 at 09:37
Hi Brit Simon, I wrote in DS-260 in job title: “Customer service and sales”, but i didnt wrote the word: ‘represenetive’. am i need to unlock my DS-260?
Thank you so much!! i am so appracite your help!
August 6, 2017 at 14:40
No need to unlock.
August 6, 2017 at 16:38
Thank you!
August 6, 2017 at 09:59
Hi,
I lost my passport after i have filled my DS260 in May 4 but i have applied for a new one and I was
issued a lost certificate from the Thai police ,
(1) Should I ask KCC to unlock my DS260 for to change my passport number ?
(2) or take the new passport with the police certificate to my interview ?
August 6, 2017 at 14:40
1 is better, 2 is OK too.
August 6, 2017 at 14:06
We are family of three n have filled in the DS260.due to financial problem our daughter will not go to the interview with us in November.
Can I asked KCC to unlocked my daughter DS260?
Or what?
August 6, 2017 at 14:27
Unlocking won’t make any difference.
August 6, 2017 at 15:05
What’s your advice senior man?
August 6, 2017 at 15:29
I don’t know what you are trying to achieve. Sponsoring a derivative after the DV interview will be expensive, complicated and slow (2 years). My advice would normally be to find a way to process together.
August 6, 2017 at 17:31
Hello !
Do i need to declare on ds 260 that im staying 20 days for holiday out of my country.
Thanks
August 6, 2017 at 17:36
No.
August 6, 2017 at 18:39
Hello Simon,
I read numerous times that a visa doesn’t guarantee entry and it’s the officer who has the final say so what if one is say in a bad mood that day or just has a bias against certain skin tone (no, I’m not from any of the banned countries or anywhere from that part of the world nor am I religious). There are a lot stories where people who get denied entry but those were non-immigrant cases but somehow the paranoia slipped in even though I was successful with getting an immigrant visa and have nothing to hide.
My question is: have you ever heard of a person who went through the entire process, gave all their documents, no criminal record, passed their DV interview, received their passport with immigrant visa and sealed packet but when at the airport, they were still denied at the airport by the officer?
August 6, 2017 at 20:56
That generally doesn’t happen, and decisions are not made based on bad mood etc!
August 6, 2017 at 18:40
Hello BritSimon,
First of all thank you for your great job you doing here. One question, My CN 2018EU33xxx, completed my DS260 early july at CEAC site i can see status completed for main applicant and derivatives but after hovering mouse over status i can see “The IV application has been submitted for this application. It will be revieved once your civil documents have been submitted”. Seems really confusing as far as there were no indication taht I should provide any documents other than DS260. As the CN is pretty high there is time to clarify this, but question is does it need any calrification od it’s jus normal. Thank you in advance and keep doing great job. Regards.
August 6, 2017 at 20:57
It’s normal, nothing to worry about, no step missed.
August 6, 2017 at 21:16
Thank you for quick reply. Really apreciate your job here and all very useful information you provide here. Regards.
August 6, 2017 at 18:48
Hi Simon;
I got my visa last week and I have a program to move to USA next month. But I wanna change my sponsor and what is the process to change the sponsor sir ?

August 6, 2017 at 20:58
No need to do anything.
August 6, 2017 at 21:15
what you mean sir I don understand? simply can i go to my new sponsor?
August 6, 2017 at 21:49
Yes.
August 6, 2017 at 23:12
I have question about green card delivery to the mailing address I informed in DS260. Do I need to input my name or the house owner’s name?
August 6, 2017 at 23:17
Yours. It is ideal if the houseowner can inform the mailman that you will be receiving mail there.
August 7, 2017 at 01:58
How do I change my address if I have changed my state after getting green card?
August 7, 2017 at 02:37
Google uscis change address.
August 7, 2017 at 02:43
Hi Simon,
I am a 2017 GC lottery winer and I am living in the USA. Also, I and my husband applied for asylum. Could you tell me if will be a problem at the interview? Have we renounce to asylum before the interview?
August 7, 2017 at 04:29
You should process as adjustment of status. Read the thread below to understand that process.
http://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2018-aos-only.336256/
August 7, 2017 at 03:44
How do you do Mr.Simon
1. Does DV2017 visa holders HAVE TO enter to the US before September 31, 2017 which is end of 2017 program or they can enter till end of their visa expiration. Let’s say in October or November month 2017?
This is for information; I was in AP since February 16, 2017 which we were interviewed date. My case suspended under section 221(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952, because of I was in US before for studying with a student visa for four years. Finally I have got phone call from US embassy with a POSITIVE completion of my AP on August 04, couple days ago. Days 169 or almost 6 months after.
As you remember, my wife as a Principal Applicant, she and my two kids issued visas with expiration date were July 29, 2017. Unfortunately, they did not use and enter to the US and their visas expired today. They waited result of my AP also two young kids and first time travelling, thought she cannot handle with it and relocation would not be easy for them. I did not know when my AP will complete. Very complex situation, I am losing my mind. Only 6 days late. Looks like somebody is playing with me or laughing at me. What should I do? Please, suggest me!!!
2. Will they reprint their visas if we do one more Medical Screening?
3. If they don’t reprint visas can I enter to the US by myself as a DV2?
4. Is there any ways to keep the Green Cards?
I already e-mailed them describing the situation.
Appreciate your help and have a great day.
Thank you,
August 7, 2017 at 04:33
1. The first entry can be after the end of the fiscal year – but must be by the expiry date on the visa. Your wife has made a serious mistake not using the visas by the expiry date. You must discuss that with the embassy. They may consider the case abandoned.
2. I don’t know.
3. No. Your visa depends on your wife as the principal, at least for the first entry. If they won’t re-issue hers – none of you can enter.
4. Speak to the Embassy.
August 7, 2017 at 10:59
Hi, Simon, I have another question, thank you for your help. If my husband who won with DV2018 goes to his interview as scheduled and gets approved, can I get interviewed at a later date during the same fiscal year (if he has not entered the US yet)? I am asking because our interview may be at a later time than we planned and I will need to be out of the country at that time for another very important reason that it is impossible for me to postpone. Best wishes.
August 7, 2017 at 12:20
No.
August 7, 2017 at 12:55
Thank you.
August 7, 2017 at 13:39
Hi BritSimon,
Thanks so much for all your invaluable advice on this website, it’s been a godsend for two super excited DV-2018 winners. We are OC-2XX, so expecting interviews in October or November.
My husband’s employed in Australia where we own a flat (where I live all the time), but has spent a lot of time working in New Zealand the past couple of years on secondment, and has been renting a flat there, paid for by his company. We didn’t put it on the DS-260 as a past address, as he hasn’t been normally resident in NZ, and we didn’t want to confuse things by saying we lived at two different addresses. He does come back to our Australian address regularly (every few weeks for long weekend visits). We’re now a bit worried that they might notice his border crossings into NZ and think it’s odd (although there are no passport stamps).
1. Do you think we should unlock our DS-260 and put the NZ address as a past/current address, or should we leave it as is and explain in the interview if they ask?
We’re also renewing our passports right now so are planning to bring old and new passports to the interview as it seems easier at this stage. But there seems to be some conflicting advice on this.
2. Do you recommend we unlock and update the passports if we get them back in time?
Thanks very much!
August 7, 2017 at 13:56
1, No need. The base was still home – these are just work trips.
2. Either way. You have time to unlock if you want.
August 7, 2017 at 16:09
Great, thanks so much for the quick reply!
August 7, 2017 at 14:37
Hi i unlock my ds-260 and i close it now i need to unlock ds-260 for my son and wife
How I write massage for kcc .
August 7, 2017 at 14:39
Same as your previous email but be specific about which forms you want to unlock.
August 7, 2017 at 14:56
Dear Brit,
I won the 2018 DV Lottery, I have submitted my DS-260 and awaiting KCC. I have a problem with the arrangement of my surname which is a compound name.Say A-first name; B-C surname meaning my correct name should be ‘ABC’. On my high school, the school inadvertently changed the position of the compound surname making it CB with full name being written as ACB. It also followed with my undergraduate certificate. However, my graduate certificate, birth certificate and passport bear the correct arrangement ABC. Please note also that I used the name in passport to apply for the DV lottery. (i.e. ABC)
Please, is this anomaly going to affect my chances and if so what should I do to rectify it
Thank you.
August 7, 2017 at 15:01
It would not normally cause a problem if all your other documents are genuine and available.
August 7, 2017 at 15:09
Is it necessary to swear an affidavit at the notary public of the high court as a kind of validation?

Hi Brit! I hope you are ok. I wrote to you a few days ago to tell you that I had already put my fingerprints and a week later I received another letter with another appointment to fingerprints again. I called to USCIS and I was informed that if the second letter received was no more than 30 days of the first fingerprints I had already placed Could don’t go for second time. However we decided to go to the second appointment and I asked one of the people who works there and told me that the second letter had the code 5 while the first letter said Code 3, by that we should take fingerprints again. So, how can I know how is going on our AOS? Thank you so much by your help like always!!!

The fingerprint issue is just one piece of the puzzle. It doesn’t tell you anything about what progress they are making on other aspects of your case. You should soon start looking for an infopass appointment to check on progress.

Thank you very much for your quickly response. That infopass appointment where it is done and for what? Is this the next step that we have to do?
August 7, 2017 at 16:11
An Infopass is an appointment at the FO. You don’t “HAVE TO” arrange one – but it is a good idea to get a progress update. This has been widely discussed on the AOS thread I have referred you to previously.

Hi Britt good morning, for infopass appointment we need to go applicant and derivatives? Or just applicant? We have to bring originals documents? We could be interviewed in that appointment? Thank you
August 8, 2017 at 15:20
Some infopass appointments have become on the spot interviews, but it is your choice whether to go with all derivatives. Take all documents with you.

Hi wish you all the best, I have some question regarding the dv 2018.I have a cousin who won the dv lottery .My question is that she hasn’t yet fill the DS-260 form and the principal applicant ‘s age that there is one year difference between the dv birthday and passport birthday. What do you think will happen to her? And when is the deadline for submitting the ds-260 form?
August 7, 2017 at 16:15
The DS260 should be submitted with the correct birthday. As long as there is no suspected fraud – that mistake will often be forgiven. The only way to know for sure is at the interview. There is no deadline for submitting the DS260 – But it would be unwise to delay past May of 2018.

Hi Brits, greetings. I had to unlock my form to fill my passport number and that of derivatives. The passports have finally come out after two months of a long wait.
Unfortunately, the authorities committed date of birth errors with that of my husband and first son who is 4 years old. By implication, they may have to wait for another 2 months or so for the corrections to be effected.
Dat will for sure cause a delay in the submission of our forms. My worries are:
1) Can we use the current info in the passports to fill and send the forms pending the new passports even when the yet to be corrected passports shall for sure carry new delivery and expiry dates? Will that not be a cause for concern during 2NL?
2) Can i use my passport information to fill that of my son? If yes, what about my husband’s situation?
Plz i need your purposeful advise as usual. Thanks in advance for your help.

1. If yours is a DV2018 case – yes you can do that.
2. Yes. For your husband he can use the new passport number – and once that is replaced he can update the DS260
August 7, 2017 at 19:02
Thanks Brits. Yes, it’s a 2018 case. Just forgot to mention.
Plz Brits, just to bother you once more.
For the case of my son, instead of putting his birth date which is 10th December 2013, the authorities wrote 19th December 2013. Hence a difference of 9 days.
I have the option of making him a new birth certificate which matches with the one in his passport and then correcting it on the DS260 form but which ofcourse will not tie with the original entry submitted during the dv lottery.
1) Can that be considered as fraud?
2) If questioned by the CO during interview and i explain, can it still be considered as fraud?
3) I should just proceed with your advice and persevere until the new passport with the corrected info is out just to avoid any unforeseen during 2NL.
Thanks for your time dearest Simon

If the passport is incorrect – it should be corrected. Tell the truth at all times.
