Hi Brit,
Last time I asked you what to do with my kids whom they won the lottery as beneficiaries. But due to certain circumstances, I am not able to take them with me. When filling out the DS260 for myself, I didn’t submit theirs, per your advice. Now, I got 2NL. But their name is listed on it as beneficiaries. Does that mean that I have to take them for the interview, even though I didn’t submit their DS260? Am I going to be asked at the interview of my Kids’ passport ?
Thank you
August 21, 2017 at 14:16
It is normal that they were on the 2NL. The CO will obviously ask your plans regarding the children.

Hi Britsimon,
I made my activation trip in October 2016 which means my visa will expire this October. As i am pregnant, we made plans to live with my sister and have the baby there (due december) however as i have become high risk/ will need a caesarian i realise that without healthcare i could get a very extensive hospital bill and am worried about the toll the move will take on myself and the baby, not to mention my husband and i will both be unemployed upon arrival. My husband and I had already resigned ourselves to the fact we will have to give up our Visa’s as unfortunately sometimes life throws you curveballs and you have to do what is best for your family. however i don’t want to live with regret and am still hoping for a miracle- are there ANY extensions beyond 12 months granted after the activation trip? If so do you think i would qualify? It’s so sad to me that something i’ve been working for for two years will now not happen.
Also, do you think the lottery will be abolished under trump? If not, would i be eligible to apply again?
Thank you in advance for your advice
August 21, 2017 at 08:11
Sorry, i just read your post regarding Trumps bill. I just want to make sure that even if i only have one or two years more to apply, i would be eligible if i have abandoned it once before? (Assuming i abandon this time).
August 21, 2017 at 14:17
That is not a problem.
August 21, 2017 at 13:44
After the year you can contact the embassy and explain your position – they can grant a permit to return – although they don’t have to. That is an SB-1. If you explain the unavoidable circumstances, that would help.
However, that is only worthwhile if you are planning to move to the USA. It isn’t a travel permit – the idea is to live in the USA.
August 21, 2017 at 16:45
Thanks so much for your reply. The plan was always to move and have our family there, unfortunately this pregnancy has thrown things around, especially because of the immediate cost of healthcare in our circumstances 🙁
Am I correct in that I need to inform the embassy if we do need to relinquish the visa, Or does this just happen naturally if we don’t travel? I can then contact them after the expiry, explain my circumstances and try to apply for the sb-1? Is this incredibly difficult to get?
Also, as I mentioned previously I could still apply in further lotteries, if it still exists?
And relinquishing wouldn’t affect travel plans as a tourist in the future? Because we would still be travelling often to visit family.
Sorry for all the questions, your advice is so appreciated.
August 21, 2017 at 17:25
I don’t think you have to do anything to relinquish it. At some point later you can try the SB-1 – but iof course – your “excuse” will be less compelling over time.
Yes you could enter future lotteries. And no it won’t affect you for travelling.
August 22, 2017 at 21:19
Thanks. I know you’re expertise is the diversity visa- but do you know if many people have success when applying for the sb-1? I know the consulate in Aus is quite good- at least that has been my experience and my family’s experience- but my plan would be to wait until the baby is old enough to travel and I’m physically ready- probably about 6 months old. Just wondering whether my situation would be one likely to be considered. Totally understand if you’re too unsure to advise. Thanks again!
August 22, 2017 at 21:27
I don’t know the SB-1 success rates. Babies and Moms can travel way before 6 months – so if you are trying to explain unavoidable absence – shorten that time.
By the way – your husband could re-enter to keep his GC alive – and that way be able to re-sponsor you IF you can’t get the SB-1. That would also strengthen the SB-1 case.

Hi
I am finding it difficult to fill in the educational history on my ds260 form, especially the high school area.firstly I have attended only one high school since birth, I don’t know whether I should put the date of enrollment form kindergarten up to my graduation date, or high level date( 10th 11th and 12th).
August 21, 2017 at 13:34
It doesn’t matter. Make a choice.
August 21, 2017 at 09:56
Hi Brit.
I appreciate your help. Remain blessed.
Now time is running out for DV2017 guys. Due to sputum, the initial appointment date we did not utilize. It was on May 25th 2017, since then attempts to reschedule online have not been successful because of lack of dates. Every week an email to the embassy of Nairobi returns with ‘please keep checking online for available dates’ . A check online for available dates returns zero available slots. The circle repeats every week since 25th May 2017.
My questions are:
1. In such a situation like this where else can people get help?
2. Are there cases where selectees did not get a rescheduled appointment by sept 30 even if they had finished all the preparations and submitted all the documents long before the deadline approached?
3. If one was to travel to another European country on early September, will requesting transfer of file take time.
4. The case size is five. Mother, beneficiary, will travel for further studies early September. Can they split the file so she can be interviewed in Europe and the rest in Kenya?
5. Technically a month is remaining. Is there any chance of being interviewed at all? Mind you the embassy has all the documents including medical results. Case number AF201700036***.
We have reached the end of thinking about this given we have lacked answers to the eight year old who has been asking why the embassy refused to tell us YES or NO. Your valuable advise will shed the much needed light now. Thank you Brit for your good heart of clarifying issues and providing guidance.
August 21, 2017 at 13:27
1. Nowhere else. Just the embassy. Contact them by phone or in person to explain the urgency.
2. Yes
3. Yes – that would be a horrible idea.
4. No.
5. Yes – but it is up to you to get it done.
August 21, 2017 at 13:50
hi Sir, I have few question.

August 23, 2017 at 00:51

August 21, 2017 at 17:24
Hi Brit. It’s me again.
1. I would like to know if i get marriage before my entry to US and then I present myself alone to US, can i ask my husband after this? Or will be ilegal? Because our wedding was delay for all demostrantions and marchs and I couldn’t present me marriaged when I had my interview. I know taht you speak about it in the blog of status but this is my case.
2. If we get marriage in other country, next year, can I ask for him?
Note: our relationship is completely real and we have over 8 year together.
August 21, 2017 at 17:33
You can marry and sponsor your husband to join you. But that will take about 2 years.

Dear simon,
Thank you so much for your quick reply,
I have one more question concerning the medical test for the dv-2018,
I was wondering do I have to schedule the medical test by myself or the Embassy of Baghdad need to inform me the date then I need to schedule it?

Hi Simon,
I am winner dv2018eu10xxx.
Filed my DS260 mid May 2017
Question if i may ask?
After i filed ds260, month later my daughter been granted uk citizenship, so she has got duel citizenship now.
Do i have to unlock DS260 to amend this info? Or i should wait and tell them about on the interview day???
Appreciate your advise in advance.
August 21, 2017 at 22:43
Unlock and add that.
August 22, 2017 at 00:56
Hi simon i am the winner dv 2017 i already interview in 3/8/2017 in sudan but they said ready in my case but i didnt get my immigrant visa????
August 22, 2017 at 02:13
It sounds like you are on AP. However, there is also a travel ban in place – so once your AP finishes, you might be able to claim an exemption (through a family relationship with a US resident) OR, there is a very small chance you could get approved in the final 2 or 3 days of the fiscal year. However, there is a high chance there will not be time for that. So – do you have a family member in the USA?
August 22, 2017 at 02:16
Yes i have my sister in usa And my causin
August 22, 2017 at 02:37
So give me some adivce before my deadline sep 30 what can i do …All my document is with the embassy ..thank u for your advice
August 22, 2017 at 04:47
You have to ait and see if AP finished. There is nothing you can do to speed that. However, if AP finished you need to provide proof of your relationship with your sister – birth certificates are the best proof. So – get that ready.
August 22, 2017 at 04:42
Hi Brit,

1. my CN is AS000127XX and i submitted my DS260 form on 12May, now how can i check whether my form is processed or not? i want to find my form status

Thank you very much
August 22, 2017 at 04:48
1. There is no need to check – your number is high so you have a long time to wait.
2. https://britsimonsays.com/dv2018-selectee-numbers-published/
3. Yes your number is high, and risky. So – you can register for DV2019 with no problem.

August 22, 2017 at 09:40
Hi Sir
I am a DV2018 winner. I filled in my DS 260 on 3 July and got confirmation of submission. So the next step is just waiting for word back from the KCC as to when my appointment is going to be scheduled. Interview will most probably be early next year (Jan or Feb) as my number is quite low, 2018AF00027***. Now the tricky part, I live in South Africa, however I’m moving to Australia in October for the next 18 months. So my question is two part:
1. When would be the best time to change my location, should i do it as quickly as possible?
2. What extra documents would i need to supply the embassy with when going for the interview in Australia? Just an extra police clearance for my time in Australia?
3. What documents exactly do i need for the interview, the instructions aren’t clear and only say civil documents, but not too sure what that encompasses? I’ve looked on your site and can’t find any reference as to what documents exactly I need.
Thank you for all your help, your site has been a tremendous help and I will make sure to make a donation!
Kind Regards
August 22, 2017 at 13:20
1. Once you move
2. Nothing else, but prepare well to avoid AP
3. The link below has info – make sure you have translated documents, and be sure to focus on education proof (High school and degree).

hi , i am from nepal and accepted for dv2018. thing is i submitted my ds260 form late in july because i was unaware of my dv selection earlier. does this in anyway hamper my chances of being called up for interview and further processing? also will i be pushed further back because of my late submission? my case number is 2018AS000033XX .
Thank you.
August 22, 2017 at 15:49
No – it won’t make any difference.

We were winners of the DV 2017 our interview was carried out in Venezuela the day 31/08/2017 the official after making us swear we said that the visas were approved we still did not receive the passport and yesterday we saw that the status changed to AP.
We must be calm or we should contact the embassy at the time of the interview we delivered all the papers that requested there was no problem and said nothing of there was something wrong so the concern that the passports still do not arrive and the uneasiness if we should travel from new to Caracas to request information
August 22, 2017 at 15:51
Your interview date must be incorrect.
Calm and patience.
August 22, 2017 at 15:54
Yes 31/07/2017
August 22, 2017 at 15:46
Hi Simon,
I just have a question regarding Police Certificates.
I am a DV2018 winner in OC region and am expecting an interview around Dec/Jan period.
I was originally living in New Zealand and am now currently living in London for about 18 months. I have already received a police certificate from New Zealand not too long ago (dated: June 2017).
My question is if I return to New Zealand for a holiday, say 2-3 weeks max before my interview then do I have to obtain a new police certificate from New Zealand or would I be able to use the current one that I have?
Regards,
Shiv
August 22, 2017 at 15:56
You can probably use the one you have, but getting a new one nearer the interview would remove the doubt.
August 22, 2017 at 17:10
Hi Brit Simon, i would be happy if you will help me.
in DS-260 I wrote in the primry occupation:
“I have LL.B in law. now i am studying for the exam to get the lawyer license”.
i was mean that i am study to the bar exam of the lawyers and than after the exam i will get the awyer license if i will pass the exam.
Is that understandable? do you think that i should ask to unlock my DS-260 and write it differnt?
Thank you very much!!
August 22, 2017 at 17:30
It doesn’t matter.
August 22, 2017 at 19:24
BRIT GREETINGS THANK YOU FOR HELPING SO MANY PEOPLE, I WAS SELECTED FOR THE DV-2017 SEND MY DS-260 SCHEDULES ON AUGUST 15, 2017, TODAY I MAILED A MAIL THAT DECEIVES THE FOLLOWING:
Required Entry Status Check for DV Submission
You have received this email notification to inform you that you have updates available at https://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ESC . Please log in using your confirmation number from your original application to complete further processing.
BUT BY ENTERING MY DATA I SEE THE SAME LETTER I SAW THE FIRST TIME I ENTER, WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
August 22, 2017 at 19:49
The email your received is normally sent the people who are scheduled for an interview – and those people see their selected letter has been replaced by the interview details letter (the 2NL). If you are saying you only submitted your DS260 for the first time a week ago, I would be very surprised if you were already scheduled for an interview – so in that case I suspect that would be a mistake. However, you can try that ESC page again in a few hours to see if it has been updated.
August 22, 2017 at 20:19
Greetings mr. Brit I actually got the second letter after waiting a while and I have a scheduled appointment, a thousand thanks.
August 22, 2017 at 20:29
Great – so can you confirm some things.
1. Did you *really* submit one week ago?
2. Are you DV2017 for sure?
3. Is your interview in September?
August 22, 2017 at 20:36
YES TO THE 3 QUESTIONS GOD IS GREAT.
August 22, 2017 at 21:05
Wow – well you gambled and won! 🙂
August 22, 2017 at 22:18
Dear Simon,
I am dv selectee and have received the 2NL for october. My appointment will be in Barbados, BRIDGETOWN.
Two days ago I have received an email from USAvisa-info.com saying :
—————————————————–
Dear Immigrant Visa Applicant,
The Immigrant Visa Unit at the Consular Section in Bridgetown requires all immigrant visa applicants to register their appointment and select a delivery location for the return of their passport before attending the scheduled visa interview.
You are receiving this email message because you have not completed the registration process. To complete registration, click on the link (https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-BB/iv/account)
Your case number is: 2018EU0000XXXX When registering, enter your case number exactly as it is displayed in this email.
Do not create multiple accounts using the same case number when registering your appointment. Visa dependants should be added to the principal applicant account.
Failure to complete this requirement prior to your interview may result in processing delays of your immigrant visa application.
Sincerely,
CSRA Visa Information Services
———————————————————
and when I try to register on the website the link redirects me to :
This site does not provide any support services for Immigrant Visa applications. Our call centers and support team cannot help you with an Immigrant Visa application. You can get more information about applying for an Immigrant Visa at:
http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate.html
————————————————————————–
Which is the main page of the Visa and gives only general information.
So i don’t know what I should do. I then went on the website of https://ceac.state.gov/
and logged in with my info and I now see the names in doublons, (the principal applicant and the derivative) like we have to filled the DS260 again ?
have you ever heard about something similar ?
thanks

Infopass!
August 23, 2017 at 03:29
Hello Brit , could you please elaborate or make easy to understand “. Infopass “.
August 23, 2017 at 05:20
An infopass is an appointment at the FO. You should know this. You need to take responsibility for your case.
August 23, 2017 at 13:59
In google, find infopass to Make and appointment in uscis. Do it as soon as possible because is not easy get it fast!
August 23, 2017 at 03:43
hello Brit,
I have recently won dv 2018 lottery and my case no is 2018OC0000XX.
My confusion is that I was born in Nepal and currently resident at Australia but why I got OC case number because I made a mistake while submitting initial entry form. My foreign state of changeability is showing Australia.
I have recently received interview date from KCC. but is the above mistake will disqualify me and should not take interview and save money or go for interview.
can anyone suggest me from their experience.
August 23, 2017 at 05:18
Unless you are married to someone from OC region you are certain to be disqualified at interview.
August 23, 2017 at 06:30
Hi Simon,
I have been asked to rite a book about my experience as a dv lottery winner.
Can I write about the interview? If so, is there anything I should not mention?
Thanks,
Nicola
August 23, 2017 at 14:17
Nothing is sensitive – it is your account – so no problem.
August 23, 2017 at 14:52
Thanks Simon!

Hi BritSiman,
I read the post about backlog and now i saw the visa bulletin in October for dv2018.My friend’s case no is 2018AS00081XX. Comparing to other years including dv2014 which has highest selectees, dv2018 Asia has low case number 1200.
01)Is backlog process is the reason for this?
02)Or are there any other reason for this?
03)Although you post that safe numbers for ASIA is AS8XXX , is it affect to this case number 2018AS00081XX for having high risk of not interviewing?
because October got low cut-off number.

Hello Brit
Am back here again. As you advised, I read the reciprocity page concerning police records from china and subsequently sent both my entry and exit visas as well as residence permits (for the period in china) to my friend in china to request the police records of no criminal records. I stayed in the capital of one of the provinces in northern china. He first went to the local and was directed to the district police office and went further to the the provincial office but all these places claim they don’t do that for foreigners. He as well went to the Notary public offices to inquire but all to no avail. Brit my case is AF16xxx and may be scheduled somewhere in December or January and don’t know how long it will take to process the report from a foreign country.
Please what can I do and what options do I have?
Please help
Thank you
August 23, 2017 at 14:14
Again. Simply follow the instructions on the reciprocity page. THat’s ALL!

dear mr simon…
i have got my visa and i want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the efforts you have put on in this blog to help fellows like me.
Now that i am starting to make travel plans, i have a question.
someone has told me that while booking and confirming plane ticket, it will be easier to have only one transit spot and not more (and definitely not on any state in US other than intended in DS 260) because it causes hassles at POE. Please clarify this for me.
Thanks a lot

That someone is an idiot.

hello if your case no is 2018AF00001450 when will you go for the interview?
August 23, 2017 at 14:10
That case number is ready for an October interview – IF the DS260 is processed. DS260 processing could mean a later month.

Hello Brit!
My wife won DV2018, we are from EU region, case #8xxx. When we entered DV we indicated in the application wife, me (husband) and our daughter. But our daughter has an American passport, she was born in the USA (Legally of course). In june, when we send my wife and mine applications we recieve confirmation numbers, but our dauter application is still incompleted.
How do u think will KSS processed applications without dauter application? It is augast now and our cases is still in KSS…
Many thanks.

It’s no problem.

Hello Brit.
Three months in AP, no 221g was given. This is really getting to my nerves, can’t even properly sleep.
I contacted the consular section the other day about the about the status, this is how they responded:
Can you tell me the dates in which you live in Zorzor, lofa county?
This question really hates my brain again. Because, In my DS260, I didn’t mention Zorzor or anything that look like Zorzor.
So I responded them by saying, where I was born and where I have lived. And that I have not and never live in Zorzor and even my wife haven’t live there too.
How could they asked me questions that is not on my birth certificate, not on my passport none any of my documents.
Are they trying to play with my mind?
August 23, 2017 at 14:04
Of course not. They are performing background checks – and had reason to ask that question.

Hi Simon !
How are you?
I really appreciate your service here!
Keep it up man!
I have one question.
I am a DV 2018 winner with case number AF00019xxx.
I have a bachelors and a Masters degree in Science.
I have completed high school 20 years back in a vocational 10+3 school and at the same time taken the Ethiopian School leaving certificate exam. In my time both high school education 12th grade and vocational education was given at the same time. However recently the Ethiopian government makes changes in its educational policy avoiding the high school academic education part from the vocational education.
My question is will it be a problem if someone attended both vocational and academic education together as far as he presented evidence that he has a 12 grade school leaving certificate exam results and more like bachelors and masters degrees afterwards.
Regards,
Solomon.

Hi Brit,
My marriage date is five days off from the one I filled out on DS260. I already got the 2NL. What would be the impact of this date difference on the interview? Is it possible to inform KVC now to change it?
Thank you
August 23, 2017 at 16:19
No impact (unless it creates concern of fraudulent documents). No you can’t change it.
August 23, 2017 at 16:41
Hi mr.Brit,my question is:
1.what are criteria to be scheduled for interview after selection and ds260 is filled?
August 23, 2017 at 16:51
Your DS260 being processed AND your number being current.
August 23, 2017 at 17:08
Sorry,I mean that to be scheduled for interview ,what the criterias are to be fulfilled during processing? actually my ds260 is on processing, what are the contents to be checked?
Or simply they can process the case number and schedule it for interview?
August 23, 2017 at 17:27
They perform background checks. Regardless of the result of any background check, KCC schedule the interview when the case number is current – forwarding the results of background checks to the embassy.
August 23, 2017 at 16:51
hey Simon, I have an issue. I am living in the USA for a year now, my friend back homeis a DV winner but his wife is HIV patient. The embassy ask them to provide health coverage, they did it twice but the embassy still asking it because and says it is not the right one. Please as the Dv 2017 is running at its end, do you have any suggestion for us please? they are on AP since May. Thank you
August 23, 2017 at 17:29
They need to be clear about what they are being asked. It sounds like they are confused and not clear at all. I suggest they clarify that – because what you are saying is the delay makes no sense to me.

Hi Mr.Simon. My husband won the DV2017, we moved to the States 2 months ago, and whe had to chage the adress in the aiport. My husband recieved the greencard 20 days after we came here, but for me the status says:”Card Returned Undeliverable” I called USCIS and they said that they have sent it to the adress of DS260, (because they said me the officer in the airport has changed the adress only for my husband) and the adress was wrong!!
on August 3, I did a request to get the greencard in the adress we came and when I told them that i will move for a month they said we dont know how many days the docs will take to come.
The situation is that we will move to another state at the end of this week, and I told them that I will give the new adress ASAP, but different officers say me different explanations….. for example : someone said it’s ok, you can change the adress and someone else when i called again after 2 weeks told me they are not sure how many days they are able to keep an undeliverable green card until I will inform them for the new adress, and maybe it will be destroyed
Please , if you have or know sometheing to say about this situation… i appriciate it !!!
And sorry for the long comment but it’s a litle difficult to explain in englisht the situation in short words (I am new to the States)
Thank you so much for your time
August 23, 2017 at 23:20
When you move you need to let USCIS know. However, you cannot expect them to follow you around to deliver your GC. So – give them an address that will stay current for some months.
August 23, 2017 at 20:43
Hello Simon
I won DV2018 (my case no is AS1xxxx )
My current passport will be expired in July 2018.
Should I renew passport?
After renewing my passport, do I need to call KCC?
With Regards
August 23, 2017 at 23:18
Personally, I would renew it. Once renewed you can unlock/update your DS260, or just take old and new to the interview.
August 23, 2017 at 23:23
Thanks
Simon
August 23, 2017 at 23:21
My case no is AS10xxx
August 23, 2017 at 23:31
Simon
Sorry for another one question.
I am plan to apply B1/2 visa in January 2018.
Do you think it can negative affect to my DV.
And my case number is AS10XXX.
Thanks for your reply
With regards
Chit Sayar
August 23, 2017 at 23:56
No – but the DV case could add to the chance of refusal for the B1/B2. Also, you must not use the B1/B2 to try and adjust status – as that would clearly be preconceived.
