I only answer questions about DV lottery.
August 31, 2017 at 15:19
Hi Britt, I am an Indian Citizen having Indian Passport. I have applied for i-140. Both of my parents were born and brought up in Sri Lanka. they later moved to India now holding Indian Passport. Can i use DV lottery based on my parent’s place of birth.
August 31, 2017 at 15:49
If their move to India was temporary, then possibly, but given they are now Indian citizens, that would be doubtful.

Hello Simon…
I want to thank you for the efforts you have put on in this blog to help fellows like me. I have got my VISA and I am planing to move this coming month.
I would like to ask you again this Question, I have a friend of my mine who won a DV lottery 2018 and we have filled the DS260, we have got an appointment letter and we confirmed our availability and it is not far because it is in the first days of October, My question is :
We found that we made a mistake on wedding date, for that side of husband we used the date that he did Civil wedding, and on side of his spouse we used the date of Religious Wedding. Thus date of marriage are different in the DS.
Please Advice me what i can do for this case. Thank you May God bless you abundantly!
August 29, 2017 at 12:38
There is nothing you can do. The DS260 cannot be unlocked at this point.
August 29, 2017 at 14:39
Ok thank you for the answer
allow me to ask this again, can he be disqualified because of that dates? or can he carry some documents in the interview so to explain that mistake! sorry to Disturb you we want to know what we can do for this case!
please help me again. thank you! all the blessings.
August 29, 2017 at 15:44
I don’t think this would cause disqualification.

Good morning Brit
Thanks for helping us continuously
My God bless you.
I am a Dv 2018 winner with the case number 2018AF000247** but played in Morocco while schooling. I finished my master program January and return to my home country “Liberia ” when the results came in May I won however I was told to write KCC about the situation requesting my case a transfer to Liberia which I did and KCC reply instructing me “When filling out your Form DS-260 you will have the opportunity to update your physical address and to select the consular section at which you would like to be interviewed” I did filled out and submitted my DS 260 on May 19th.
I’ve got few questions please.
1) should I be worried about any delays in scheduling my interview due to the change of location?
2)do I need a police clearance from Morocco cause I lived there for 7years?
3) Looking at my case number will I be Interview this year? Meaning within the last three months, October, November or December.
Thanks for your generosity.
August 29, 2017 at 12:43
1. As long as you have updated the DS260 with the correct address, no.
2. Yes
3. Probably not.

Hi Brit,I came across a notification on the 2019 diversity visa lottery program that talks about registration fee in playing the DV lottery as well as now they are receiving entries 365 days instead of the previous time frame. How factual is this information concerning the upcoming DV program?
August 29, 2017 at 12:36
It is an agent. It’s a bad idea to use such a service – wait for the official announcement and entry system which is free.

Hi Simon. I arrived in the USA a week ago. I selected the option to have an SSN assigned to me when I 1st applied and I know they say it may take up to 3 weeks for it to arrive. Yesterday I read in one of you older posts that you recommend going to the SSA office as in most cases the process doesn’t work (I read that in one of your older posts, from 2014). So my question is, should I go to the SSA office or does the process work now?
August 29, 2017 at 13:47
I don’t think I EVER said that “most” cases it didn’t work. It normally does – but if it doesn’t arrive in 2 to 3 weeks, take a trip to the SSA
August 29, 2017 at 15:15
Hi brit
While filling the DS-260 I had filled “Supervisor” as my work in a company called “Shrestha Uni Dhago Udyog”.Now I have my experience letter in which my position is ” Senior Manager”.Will it create a problem? If consular officer asked me a question about this topic. Shall i say that i have worked as senior manager but while filling the DS-260 form i did not give the correct information OR now my position is as “Senior Manager”.
August 29, 2017 at 15:43
It won’t matter. If asked anything – just tell the truth.
August 29, 2017 at 19:15
Dear Simon, I was wondering if you definitely get denied if your medical exam states that you have one of the diseases that you’re not allowed to have. Or if it’s fine that you get treated for them. I’m pretty positive i don’t have any, but i’m wondering if it’s useful to have my own physician check, before my medical exam, just in case.
August 29, 2017 at 19:34
If the disease is treatable, the person might have time to get treatment and get the all clear before the end of the fiscal year. If they don’t get the clear medical report in time, then they cannot be approved.
August 29, 2017 at 19:43
what are some off the diseases that you can be denied?
August 29, 2017 at 20:07

Hi Brit am 2018 winner and on my ds I wrote that I was married in 2012 (traditional) but without pictures or any proof although I had included my spouse and kids in my initial application. Now that I legalized my marriage b4 interview and I have pictures of the wedding and the marriage certificate.
1.will that cause any harm during the interview?
2.I was denied a visa b4 on the ground that I didn’t have the father’s consent to imigrate with our child back then since we were mot married. Will this also cause alarm at the interview?
August 30, 2017 at 13:53
1. Typically not.
2. If you still don’t have written consent – then possibly yes
August 30, 2017 at 08:48
Hi again.
The USCIS announced that at the beginning of October in-person interviews will take place before any foreign national already in the U.S. on a business visa is granted a Green Card. It also applies to foreign refugees who are attempting to bring their relatives to the U.S. USCIS officials said they are planning an “incremental expansion” of the extreme vetting rules to include more visa categories that foreign nationals can enter the U.S. on. Now, Dear Brit, tell us please, how can these restrictions affect those Green Card seekers who have been selected as part of the DV lottery process ?
August 30, 2017 at 13:56
It does not concern DV cases.

Hello Brit,
Is it true that charges have been applied for playing DV 2019?
Thanks.
August 30, 2017 at 14:31
Not the official lottery. THere are agents that charge money – but a person would be foolish to deal with the agents.
August 30, 2017 at 14:49
Thanks a lot for this clarification
August 30, 2017 at 15:18
Hi Brit how r u is dv lottery 20019 open in October
August 30, 2017 at 16:27

August 30, 2017 at 15:50
Hello Brit, thanks for the assistance so far. I have some worries for you:
1. Do we have to post the documents after filling the DS260 form to NVC?
2. My name is Julius Ohanza, therefore my surname is Ohanza and my given name is Julius. this order is different from all my other documents. Will this have an effect during interview?
August 30, 2017 at 16:27
Already asked, and answered.

What should i do if i change home address ?
Thanks in advance
August 30, 2017 at 17:15
If not already scheduled for interview, unlock/update your DS260
August 30, 2017 at 17:47
Hi Brit,
My case number is AF42XXX
1) My name and my wife’s in passport contain 4 names: My name, father name, grandfather name and family name
My children contains 5 name include all my 4 plus their name.
In DS260 I only wrote 3 names first name, father name and family name , and didn’t write grandfather name for all of us. Will this affect my visa approval? Do I have to open DS260 to edit?
2) If I open DS260 to edit this month or next month , will this affect , delay or maybe make me lose chance to be scheduled in an interview?
3) does the authentication of the ministry of Foreign Affairs on certificates have an expiration date? Meaning that in interview they may say to me the authentication is to old , make a new one for your certificate?
Thank you
August 30, 2017 at 18:01
1. Yes – unlock and correct.
2. No
3. I don’t know about procedures in your country.

Dear Simon,
Many thanks for helping thousands out here by putting up so much organised information and responding to questions live.
I wanted to ask you since I do not have a Sur name on my passport and i also cannot leave the surname space empty in the D260 form, what can I fill in their? Since i selected no last name/surname in my application form my name appears as follows – NLN, Moha**** A**** I*****.
Should i just write NLN in my surname ? or should i put in my third given name up there?
August 31, 2017 at 11:48
there*
August 31, 2017 at 13:41
I don’t know of procedures in a country that does not have a last name/family name/surname.
You should know what is normal in your country – if not check with some official source there.
August 31, 2017 at 12:06
Hi Simon

2. do i need to pay this money at the airport upon arrival?

Thank you for your help.

Hi Mr BritSimon thanks very much for the assistance you are giving to people like me.i forwarded my DS 260 form and have been given an interview date but have a worry about the place of residence i filled. can it still be possible for me to change the permanent residence?
August 31, 2017 at 17:26
Once your interview is scheduled, KCC will no longer unlock your form. The address should not matter.
August 31, 2017 at 22:55
please when did you send your DS260 and whats your region.?
August 31, 2017 at 16:58
Hello Brit,
I am a 2018 dv winner,
1. I played the DV with my daugther then later got married, on filling the form they ask that i upload my marriage certificate but i did have a soft copy to upload. Can i upload it later since it is not handy now.
2 is there any problem that will cause?
August 31, 2017 at 17:27
1. No, my understanding is that you need to upload it to be able to submit the DS260.
2. Not if you follow their instruction to upload it!
August 31, 2017 at 17:35
Hi Brit
I want to ask you 2 questions. My mom works as a kindergarten teacher. The kindergarten she worked closed so tomorrow she will start working in another.
1. Should she unlock and add this new information to the DS-260?
2. Will this affect/delay the interview date?
Ps. I must say that she can qualify ONLY through work experience.
August 31, 2017 at 17:45
1. Yes
2. No it won’t delay – but even if it did cause delay you should remember that “delay is better than denial”!
August 31, 2017 at 18:41
Hi Brit, I am 2018 selectee. I would like to know if I require a certificate of good conduct from the UK since I was studying there since 2012 to 2016 however I would come home every year. I finished my studies last year and I have been home(Kenya) for over a year now. My second question is the certificate of good conduct from Kenya sufficient or I also need one from UK.
August 31, 2017 at 22:13
You need to read the instructions! You will need a UK police cert.
August 31, 2017 at 18:42
Hi brit.
Please I need yr advise.
My high school diploma has a mistake my birthday, instead 1991 they write 1990.
And I’ve lost the original birth certificate.
That’s way they did accept to correct it for me.
Is it risk to go with this
August 31, 2017 at 22:12
Yes of course there is some risk.
August 31, 2017 at 20:30
Hello Britt I feel like private investigator trying to get info about the status of my case ?. I just called to KCC and they said they haven’t receive the petition of our files from uscis ??. Now I called to uscis and the say I have to wait. I’m really nervous!!!
August 31, 2017 at 22:09
KCC can’t send it unless asked. USCIS can’t help because the case is processed at the FO. The FO can help – but the way to deal with them is the infopass. So – book an infopass and be prepared to stand your ground at the infopass to make 100% certain they request this file immediately. You have to prepare well for that infopass and don’t leave their office until you are 100% sure you got them to do something. In my own infopass I was there for well over an hour. I made it clear I that I knew EVERYTHING about their process, and that I would not leave until I was satisfied. You need to do the same.
August 31, 2017 at 23:22
So I called to uscis too and spoke with second line to know something about my case, she told me that first my asylum must be closed to do AOS by another case ☹️?. I took another infopass appointment last Monday and will be for sept 12 OMG
August 31, 2017 at 23:36
You need to get this sorted out at the FO – making CERTAIN they know that you only have until September 30th. You MUST make that appointment work. As a precaution, book another infopass even before you attend on the 12th (use husbands name/email address if needed).
September 1, 2017 at 02:48
I can’t believe it that this is the way to
Make it happens! I did suppose it was easy the AOS than CP
September 1, 2017 at 03:28
Well to be fair, it is your asylum case that is complicating things…
September 1, 2017 at 10:17
Omg!!! God with us! ???
August 31, 2017 at 21:35
Hi brit.
Please I need yr help.
I’ve already submitted ds260. And I’m sure that I ll receive 2ln in Septembe.but I’m not ready and I don’t want to receive it at this time.
What should I do?
To unlock ds?
August 31, 2017 at 22:10
It depends when you submitted your DS260. If you submitted some time ago, you will be scheduled EVEN IF you unlock now.
September 1, 2017 at 01:08
Hi Brit, I made a mistake on DV form. There are two letters on a first name swapped. I filled up DS application and put the correct name. I don’t know if I should contact KCC and tell them about it. You said KCC run a background check on the name which is provided to DV form. If I show up at the interview and there no background check on my corrected name would it be a problem? I filled up application from Russia and there is very small chance of fraud in this country regarding DV lottery.
September 1, 2017 at 02:28
The checks are performed on the information in the DS260 – so make sure the DS260 is accurate.
September 1, 2017 at 05:14
Hi brit!
I have a question regarding sponsor, when i filled DS260 form, i filled the address which now is different as the sponsoring person didnot update me his current address. After getting the 2nd letter i spoke with him then he informed me that he had shifted the place in same state. According to him it doesnot matter regarding the change of address. Is it? What should be the better way if the question is raised. I know i have to say truth. Any suggestion please . Thanks in advance
September 1, 2017 at 14:52
Is this an annoying questions?
Thanks for your help.
September 1, 2017 at 16:50
If that is the address where you will have the GC sent update the address at the interview.
September 1, 2017 at 05:51
Greetings Simon,
I’m currently living and studying in the U.S. and I have been selected for the dv program. In the ds260 form I plan on having my mailing address different from my present address, because I may move out of my present address to that address upon completing my studies in December 2017. I also believe my case will be ready next year since my cn is 2018AF33xxx
1. Will having a mailing address different from my current one cause a problem?
2. Is it safe to move to another state while my case is being processed?
3. Lastly, since I will complete my studies this December and that a visa may not be available then, will the USCIS provide me a document as part of the dv program protocol allowing me to work or should I proceed to apply for an OPT as would an F-1 visa holder?
Thank you for your time
September 1, 2017 at 13:35
1. No
2. Yes, but if doing adjustment of status you should wait until you have moved to submit the I-485
3. Again – if doing AOS, you must remain in status until you can submit your I-485. So – you will need to do something about OPT etc. But AOS topics are best handled at the thread below.

Hello Simon,
I have a couple of question.
1. I wrote date of attendance to of my university as 20.06.2017. But then i got my diploma and there written 05.07.2017.is this problem?
2. My present address changed. This can be problem or? And what i must write as a permanent address (where i want to live in USA or?)
September 1, 2017 at 08:48
I must unlock or i must not. If i unlock will it affect to my interview date?
September 1, 2017 at 13:31
1. No
2. You should update that address.
September 1, 2017 at 10:04
Hi Simon, I am a DV2018 selectee. Question: if I will be approved for the Visa at the Consulate or right after and I will get my Visa stamped on my passport, will this be enough to work in the US or should I hold untill I actually get the Green Card? Thanks!
September 1, 2017 at 13:30
You can start work immediately – although your SSN usually takes a couple of weeks to arrive.
September 1, 2017 at 11:00
Hi,
We are a DV2017 winners and I have a question.
If we submitted the DS260 as family (wife, me and kid) and attended the interview together and gave all our passports, is there a chance/situation that only part of us will be issued a visa?
I am asking that because today I checked CEAC website and saw that wife and kid were ISSUED a visa, while me still on AP (probably due to TAL). Is this a normal situation?
Thanks

HELLO BRIT,
I was filling the DS260 from today and came across the following challenges:
1. what is the answer for the questions
a- ” Do you seek to enter the US for the purspose of performing skilled or unskilled labour but have not yet been certified by the Secretary of labour?
b- ” Are you permanently ineligible for US citizenship” ( I am resident in Africa)
Thanks for your usual cooperation.
