hi simon
I am one of the selectees DV-2018, while i was submitting the DS-260 form, i did a mistake in the month of my son’s birth date. it is problem for my case? and what should I do?
November 20, 2017 at 22:08
Ask KCC to unlock and then correct it.
November 21, 2017 at 18:50
At first I would like to thank you for a great work and spend your times to help thousands of people for nothing. I have some quesions:
1- Is it the only way to correct that mistake? If I asked for unlocking my DS 260 form, would it delay my process?
2-If I don’t ask for unlocking my form can I correct that mistake while the interview?
Thanks
November 21, 2017 at 20:26
1. It won’t delay – but even if it did – you should make the information accurate.
2. Correct it.
November 22, 2017 at 07:55
While I was submitting the DS-260 form, I did put down a hotel address in the USA. Can I change it while the interview? I found address one person lived in USA.
Best wishes

Yes

Dear Britsimon,
I have applied for DV Card myself (+my family). I know that my spouse can participate too and that would increase our chance a little bit 🙂
But on photo instruction it is said that your picture cannot be used for DV Card application previously. So should we take new photos or this message is only for photos used previously in DV Card lottery? I am confused because in the system they would get couple of the same photos and that could eliminate us from participating. Please help us with this 🙂
November 20, 2017 at 22:46
Photos can be used as a main entry PLUS as a derivative of the spouse.
November 20, 2017 at 22:55
Thank you. So can my wife use the same pictures I have used in my registration this year?
November 20, 2017 at 23:00
YES!
November 20, 2017 at 23:02
Thank you 🙂
November 21, 2017 at 01:42

November 21, 2017 at 01:48

November 21, 2017 at 02:41
Hello Simon,
I was wondering if people residing in America with student visa can apply for the ‘lottery? I am confused of the statement ”Entries will NOT be accepted through the U.S. Postal Service”. Please clarify it to me. Thank you.
November 21, 2017 at 03:33
It’s online. It doesn’t matter where you enter from.
November 21, 2017 at 05:33
Hi Simon, my mom was selected and we put wrong eligibility country, we thought it had to with citizenship. She was born in USSR ( Tajikistan ) but lived in Russia entire life. Her parents were born in Russia. We put country of eligibility as Russia. It should have been Tajikistan. I looked up at chances of winning in both places are very similar. what do you think?
Thank you,
November 21, 2017 at 06:07
No problem – both are in EU, and Russia had lower chance of selection.
November 21, 2017 at 23:53
I contacted KCC today, they told i should have put country of birth and its up to CO do decide. I know a case from uzbekistan got denied . I am worried now. Do you think we should attach a cover letter explaining the rules to CO. Should we bring up the issue and show the rules during the interview? I feel like it will be a bit rude to tell him about it.
November 22, 2017 at 00:15
The CO’s know the rules. So do I.
November 21, 2017 at 05:58

Hi, Brit! Thanks for your blog and your efforts here. I have a question about this proposal https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/4340/text?r=32 Any chances of success and cancelation of DV programm for this year?
November 21, 2017 at 15:43
No
November 21, 2017 at 10:22
Hello Simon !
Do I need to show the yellow envelope on each transit airport ? Or only in the POE in USA ?
Thanks in advance
November 21, 2017 at 15:42
POE
November 22, 2017 at 08:38
On my activation trip, I was traveling with a stop in France, and I was requested to show the envelope before boarding the second flight – so it’s up to the airport/airline. I just had to show it, however – of course they didn’t want to open it, they just needed to see that I had it.
November 22, 2017 at 15:06
To be clear – that is simply the airline confirming that you have a visa for entry to the USA, because they are not supposed to board anyone who doesn’t have a visa/esta etc.
November 21, 2017 at 10:36
Dear Brit,
I’ve received a January interview in Sydney and have received information from the consulate stating that, on the day of the interview, I must:
“Provide the U.S. address of where [I] wish for [my] green card to be mailed. [My] visa cannot be issued without this information.”
They want (1) name of occupant, (2) telephone number and (3) address. The thing is, I don’t know anyone in the US. I’d planned on sorting out a place to live in the six months after being issued a visa, and *only* after being issued a visa, and updating the address at the POE.
Is it okay to put down a hotel address on the day? If not, do you have any suggestions?
Thank you for any assistance – I really do appreciate you taking the time.
-Lucas
November 21, 2017 at 15:42
A hotel is not ok. You need to find someone you can trust, at least a friend of a friend.
November 21, 2017 at 10:37
Hello sir, we won the dv lottery in 2006 but unfortunately my father who is the head of the program died and the document got missing until now we have found it, will it possible for me to revive the program? ThanksEnter your comment here…
November 21, 2017 at 15:41
Revive the program??? No – winners from each year have until the end of the fiscal year to process their application, no longer.

Hello! I have a question: my country and my spouse’s country of birth are both eligable to play dv lottery. My spouse decided to choose my country of birth for his entry. What city of birth should he put then?
November 21, 2017 at 17:12
The truth. Always the truth.
November 21, 2017 at 19:59
Dear Simon, I am apllying EDV2019 into the Photo Tool Page. The “Start Tool Page” to crop pictures seems to have errors as it does not allow to open it (when clicking there it seems actually a file rather than a programm), even after having installed Adobe Flash as required. Any idea why or help? Thanks for your feedback. Kind regards, Fausto
November 21, 2017 at 20:15
Try a different browser
November 22, 2017 at 13:08
I tried 3 different browsers… the third worked well….Thanks Simon
November 21, 2017 at 20:59
Can I apply for DV-2019 without it affecting my previous DV-2019 win?
I have not received my 2NL yet
November 21, 2017 at 22:09
Yes
November 21, 2017 at 21:37
my dear
I am a winner of the lottery for the year 2018 from the state of Libya and one of the banned countries to enter the United States I wait in the second letter to set the date of the interview note that I have a uncle holds a US citizenship resident in Florida.
There is news in the world newspapers Trump management demanding full “enforcement” of the new travel ban. Has the Trump administration been affected by the change in the Supreme Court’s position?
I am sad about the possibility of changing the position of the Supreme Court and do not have a share in obtaining a visa
November 21, 2017 at 22:09
The latest position is that people frokm banned countries can be approved if they can show a bona fide (meaning REAL) relationship with a family member in the USA.
November 21, 2017 at 22:12

November 21, 2017 at 22:52

November 21, 2017 at 22:42

November 21, 2017 at 23:11
Is “John” your surname?? The surname is the family name. So – if your name is John Solomon, Perhaps Solomon should be your surname. Toahat clear – if you had a brother called Billy. Would he be “Billy Solomon” or “Billy John”.
November 21, 2017 at 23:20
Yes John is my surname
November 21, 2017 at 23:24
He will be call john billy
November 21, 2017 at 23:29
OK – so in your country, names are used differently to here where the name is firstname lastname (family name). But, assuming you are correct – you have the names identified = so there is no need to ask me anything. Just be sure that your lastname/familyname/surname is John.
Surname: John
First name: Solomon
Middle name: Daniel
November 21, 2017 at 23:17
Some one just told me that I will be disqualified if my EDV names doesn’t match with my passport and birth certificate even though the correction has taking place on the ds 260
So he advise me to go for new passport and birth certificate to match with my EDV names.
I seek advice from you

November 22, 2017 at 08:47
Hi Simon, I have follow up question. I mentioned before that my mom was selected. We chose wrong country of chargeability instead of Tajikistan we put Russia because she lived there her entire life. Now from what I read you suggested that it is in the same region and can be overlooked by CO, provided that she didnt gain any benefit. I am trying to establish if indeed she didnt gain any benefit. From what I understand , it has to do with “limited” draws. I am trying to establish if Tajikistan is limited draw. Also if they decided to request visa numbers from Tajikistan and there is none available , will she be denied ? Until when the visa numbers stays available?
November 22, 2017 at 15:09
I already answered this. Stop wasting your time and mine thinking about this.
November 22, 2017 at 09:24

Hi Brits…lhad forgotten about this.
1..l did a two months course and lhave a certificate.in ds 260 it was not applicable l guess due to the short period.in our embassy they normally ask the highest level of education or what you did after high school.my question is should l mention about it regardless of the short period?thank you.
AM SORRY IF THIS QUESTION APPEARS TWICE.l made an error.

November 22, 2017 at 13:54
Hello Brit,
I’ve received my 2NL, but I’m wondering if I can enter DV2019 without penalty (haven’t received a visa until I’ve received a visa)?
Thanks,

No problem.
November 22, 2017 at 16:22
Dear BritSimon,
I have filled my DS-260 form and submitted it, but my wife’s form is still incomplete. because she is not immigrating with me, though she will follow me later. Do have to submit her form also or they can simply set an interview for me?
Thanks
November 22, 2017 at 22:28
You can interview on your own. The process to bring her later will be more expensive and will take about 2 years
November 23, 2017 at 19:47
Thanks. But my question was can they set an appointment for me without completing her DS260?
November 23, 2017 at 20:00
Thanks. But my question was can I be called for an interview without completing her DS260?
November 23, 2017 at 20:28
“You can interview on your own. ” – so that is a YES, isn’t it.
November 22, 2017 at 17:08
Hi Brit.Trust you are well. Kindly asking if I entered US as DV beneficiary in Sept 2017 and left to UK for studies – will be completing Sept 2018. My PR card has already been issued but it’s with relatives in the US. Passport/Visa was stamped though during US entry. I will need to come back to US mid Dec 2017 from the UK, will they accept my stamped Passport/Visa or I ask my relatives to send me PR card to the UK? Thank you for your time.
November 22, 2017 at 22:19
Your endorsed visa will be OK for entry.
November 22, 2017 at 23:14
Thanks a lot.
November 22, 2017 at 17:38
Hi brit,
my brother is dv winner from asia having case no 2xx, originally he is from nepal but currently he is in australia for his futher study, he has mistakenly mentioned his country of chargabilility Australia instead of nepal can he processes for DS-260, what is the chances of visa approval in this case?
November 22, 2017 at 22:17
So he has an 2018OC2xx case number? In that case he will be disqualified unless he has reason to charge to Australia (marriage to an Australian prior to the DV entry)
November 22, 2017 at 17:54

November 23, 2017 at 09:43
Hello Brit,
I know that if a person applies twice for the same lottery, s/he will be disqualified, However, my conflict here is a bit different to the cases i have read about so far.
I was to submit my application for DV 2019, but after i clicked on the submit button, i lost connection to internet that the server resend me an application form after reconnection. After fulfilling the new form, the server said it was not possible for a single person to dublicate application, but i did not receive a confirmation letter. So, i asked my sister to try to apply for the lotter in the name of me, with typing all the info same with mine so that i could understand if she would receive the same answer or not.
She also applied for the lottery. Following the submission, she realized she has typed her name on the application which she was fulfilling in the name of me. (with my photo and birth details but with her name)
Then, she said she tried again and corrected the name and it was succesful that time.
So, my questions are:
There are two inconsistincies with the applications at the moment.
One is, her name is written on two different applications, and my photo and birth details are attached on two applications.
I wonder whom it is between us (or both of us) will be assigned disqualification? If yes, will we have the right to apply again the next year as i know the records for disqualified applicant are kept permanently on the system.
Thanks in advance
November 23, 2017 at 15:00
It’s a lottery with a low chance of selection. No need to think about any of that unless you are selected.
November 23, 2017 at 09:43
Dear Brit,
A friend of mine applied twice in the DV2018 lottery , but with different photos,
one with DV-2017 photo which should be disqualified automatically according to the new rule , so he applied again with a new photo and updated information because he didn’t know about the new rule, and got selected with this one,
he is asking about the whether he will get denied because of this at the interview or not !
what is the steps :
do they first check for 2017 photos and disqualify them , and then compare photos with the qualified database , or they compare against the whole set , even the ones that disqualified.
Please help him ,
because he is afraid of going to the interview and losing the fees 330$ and get denied.
Thanks
November 23, 2017 at 14:58
He is likely to be denied at interview because he applied twice. My advice would be to not proceed.
November 23, 2017 at 10:10
Hello Brit,
after filling in the DV 2019 lottery application and clicking the submit button my application reloaded, thus I filled it in once again and then it was said that similar details have already been uploaded. I didnt not receive the confirmation number, thus tried again and then I received a confirmation of application submission. would the website allow me to submit the application twice? could I be disqualified due to submitting duplicate?
Thanks!
November 23, 2017 at 14:56
If you only got one conf number it should be fine.
November 23, 2017 at 11:12
Hello Brit, i submitted my application and everything. But in the part where i should list how many children i have i left a blank cause i have no children. But later i saw that people were puting 0 if they have no children can i be disqualified cause of this mistake?
November 23, 2017 at 14:53
The system would have inserted 0 for you.
November 23, 2017 at 11:28
Hi Brit, thank you for all your great help. I was selected for DV 2018. In September this year I married my same sex partner of roughly 3 and a half years – there’s no point in me continuing with the application if my life partner would not be able to join. Therefore we both submitted the DS260. If we are invited for an interview, would you advise us to bring along proof of our relationship? Should we perhaps bring signed letters from family and friends? Additionally, we are aware that US law currently favours same sex couples, but do you know if there still exist any grounds we could be refused a visa, e.g. the officer interviewing us has religious views that be might prejudiced towards same sex unions?
November 23, 2017 at 14:52
Yes you should show documentation about your relationship – shared trips, texts, photos etc.
The officers opinion about gay marriage is irrelevant.
November 23, 2017 at 15:24
Hello
I want to ask of someone stole my first name for example and the photo I applied the application with could he harm me by applying another application with the same photo and first name for example? or doesnt work like that? thanks
November 23, 2017 at 15:52
Yes that could harm your chances.
November 23, 2017 at 17:16
What about next year if he upload the same picture And first name, could he harm my chances again? (he doesn’t know my birthday, education, last name, city or brith etc.) and how can i report that to the website?

You can’t report it to the website, or do anything about it. YOU are responsible for keeping your data and images secure.
