Hey There Simon, great website! It has helped me through this process. I am just wondering if your US address on your application is in NYC and you want to enter in LAX to activate your card then return home. Is it a Red flag for customs? Or do they not care if you are not flying domestically to NYC (‘Home base’) within this trip.
Cheers, Clay
December 4, 2017 at 14:28
They don’t care.
December 4, 2017 at 13:58
Hi Brit,
You are awesome man, if the world has more people like you, i believe will be better !
Here is my case : My wife was selected for DV2018 , we already filled out the ds260, and already have date for interview in January. My concern is about her entry picture : The picture has made by the photographer with all requirements, but when i got in the website i saw the crop tool. I have thought that every single picture should be crop by their tool and i did it…then the picture has changed, more zoomed and the head is little bit bigger… Is that can be reason for disqualification during the interview ?
December 4, 2017 at 14:28
Only in rare cases. Relax.
December 7, 2017 at 13:24
Hi Britsimon! My uncle was disqualified during his interview. He had the appointment for the interview at the us embassy with his wife and daughter in the 2NL. They told him every document was ok but that there was a mistake in the first application where he had filled it as single. DS260 was filled for his wife and daughter too.Is there anything that could be done?
December 7, 2017 at 14:37
If he applied as single, but actually had a wife and child, then they had no choice but to deny the case. So – why did he lie on the original entry??
December 8, 2017 at 20:22
It was a mistake by accident.
December 8, 2017 at 21:20
Accidentally forgot he wad a wife and child. OK.
December 4, 2017 at 14:36
Hello Brit
Today i had my interview on 4th November my mother is a DV lottery winner and i m her beneficiary the counselor asked questions gave us a white paper saying that a DNA test has to be done and my mother graduation certificate required
1. After meeting these requirements my mother is really worried whether our visa is going to be denied after even we submit and fulfill there requirements ?
2.we don’t have any petitioner in US to request for us for the DNA testing is there any alternative that US Embassy arranges for it self in the embassy where we r interviewed?
December 4, 2017 at 19:06
1. There is no guarantee until the visas are in your hands.
2. I would have thought the embassy would tell you where to get the DNA test done.
December 6, 2017 at 01:38
They gived us an email but those are centres which are in US the case here is that we r petitioners residing outside US who r to be tested what to do ??
December 6, 2017 at 01:42
I don’t know. Ask the embassy.
December 4, 2017 at 16:17
Amazing body of work, Thank you, I know it is a bit repetitive, but would like to know from your experience about the chances for the interview if my case no is AS99XX
December 4, 2017 at 17:02
Read the link below. In reality, there is no sensible guess this year because the travel ban may or may not have an impact, but the article makes some things more clear.
https://britsimonsays.com/dv2018-selectee-numbers-published/
December 4, 2017 at 17:31
hallo Simon, ope u are doing well, does it mean,
1. that among the banned countries in Africa, cases for those countries will be left a side?
2. is there a possibility for kcc to process next people on the line even if the case has a higher no?
December 4, 2017 at 18:59
We don’t know whether the ban will stay in force OR how KCC will handle the progress if the ban is in place. Really – all we can do is wait.
December 4, 2017 at 18:02
Dear Brit,
I won 2018 dvlottery, case number EU33XXX, Ds260 submitted in the middle of May as single.
I plan to get marry in February 2018. After the marriage I will unlock the DS260 to add a derivate – spouse. What is your opinion, is it too late ? Do you think it could be risky ? Does unlock of Ds260, and submitting again (probably at the end of February) will postpone the interview?
Thank you for your feedback.
December 4, 2017 at 19:04
That should be OK.
December 4, 2017 at 19:37
I have to Go to the interview with my child of 6 months?
December 4, 2017 at 19:45
Normally, yes.
December 4, 2017 at 20:30
Hello Brit,
I hope you are doing well,
I have a question. When I filled DS-260
And during filling there were question if I have documents if I got vaccine, I selected yes but now I am looking for mine and my wife, disappeared.
But we still have for our kids
Do I need to open ds-260 and change it no more vaccine documents? If I did the change, does it effect My chance to get visa ?
I appreciate your support
December 4, 2017 at 20:37
At the medical the physician will decide what vaccinations are needed – and will administer any missing shots.
December 4, 2017 at 20:57
Thanks for quick reply Brit,
So I do not need to open it to change that ?
December 4, 2017 at 20:59
No
December 4, 2017 at 21:32
Hi Brit,
On your previous post the I-134 affidavit of support need to
be stamp and mail.
My question is,
1. Who stamp the I-134 form?
2. I have form i-134 but email is it OK too?
Thanks,
God bless us.
December 4, 2017 at 23:07
1. It does not need to be stamped.
2. Yes
December 4, 2017 at 22:17
Hi Britsimon

December 4, 2017 at 23:13

December 4, 2017 at 22:30
Hello Simon,
Date of my interview is getting close. I own one relatively expensive music instument. Can I somehow mention that in addintion to my savings ? What would be proper document for such item ? I dont have receipt becouse I bought is as used. Thank you.
December 4, 2017 at 23:15
It is not a liquid asset, so no – you cannot mention that.
December 4, 2017 at 22:33
My interview has scheduled on January
I want to submit an application for my newbor
December 4, 2017 at 22:35
*Newborn
December 4, 2017 at 23:15
Talk to the embassy.
December 4, 2017 at 23:22
I sent emails to ([email protected]) and have no response
December 5, 2017 at 00:08
So keep trying.
December 4, 2017 at 23:22
The Supreme Court allowed the ban to be implemented in full. What does this mean and is there hope or not?
December 5, 2017 at 00:08
They have removed the temporary “relief” about bona fide relationships. The ban is still being appealed, but is in full force until it is appealed.
December 5, 2017 at 00:38
Dear Britsimon,
I am 2018 dv winner applying for aos, and Im from one of the banned countries. Do you think that will effect even though I am here applying from the US.
December 5, 2017 at 00:45
You are not affected.
December 5, 2017 at 03:12
Dear Simon,
I would like to check with you , I m 2018 dv lottery winner, my college also 2018 dv winner . He has one condition that he went for medical check up, the x Ray was stating abnormal result, so that he required to do another test to rule out for TB . The result needs to wait for two months. But his interview date is on 8 January 2018. Please kindly suggest your point of views and concern. What shall we do for now? Change appointment date or inform to us embassy about our situation?
December 5, 2017 at 03:38
Normally he would attend the interview and provide the medical results later.
December 5, 2017 at 03:19
Hi mr. I have a question. My question is how do you think Can i get visa b1/b2 in Almaty if I never been in any country? Do they give me visa? I asked some people they said me that you must travel european country then council will give you visa. How do you think about it. I am from Russian Federation.
December 5, 2017 at 03:37
I only answer DV lottery questions.
December 5, 2017 at 06:12
Hello Brit, pls im dv2017 selectee nd i wasn”t no that i have been selected, but now i have seen,so pls can i start de process or it will be too late for me to call for the interview?
December 5, 2017 at 14:53
Too late. DV2017 is over.
December 5, 2017 at 12:25
HIHi Brit first I want to thank you for your quick response.
next I have one question.
to make similar with what I fill on DS 260 I make on passport ( for the question place of birth I make as a rural (not city) to make it specific)
can it considered as a problem either on passport or on my case?
December 5, 2017 at 14:44
No
December 5, 2017 at 12:57
Hi Simon,
I had an interview today am a DV2018 winner, and they gave me a white sheet of paper saying that congratulation I have been approved, but also told me that they are having technical issues with printing the visa and returned my passports back to me saying they will contact me once fixed to courier the passports back. what is your take on this? why would they return the passports back, the interview went well and did not ask for any further documents. also when I enter the website to check the status of visa at ceac, it gave me invalid case number and I just finished the interview 2 hours ago. thanks I advance
December 5, 2017 at 14:43
It is odd that they gave the passports back. CEAC won’t show any status until January.
December 5, 2017 at 16:03
Sami, which Embassy you did your interview. Too bad, The Embassy in Freetown did the same thing during my interview. The CO said they are not keeping passport but will call for the passport when they are ready to issue the visa. Flexible situations though.
December 5, 2017 at 17:21
Sami , Muz …
can you talked about your interview, which the question aked …??
December 5, 2017 at 17:30
they did not ask many questions, just wen thru my documents and he asked me where I studied and what was my major, that was it. it did not take long, it was in the embassy in amman, Jordan. but they told me to register with courier in order to be ready to send my passports.
December 5, 2017 at 19:49
Thank you fot yor response me, God bless you
December 6, 2017 at 21:22
I am a Jordanian and have been selected for the DV 2018 I hope everything go well with your process, happy for you :), let’s wait and see what will happen with my case 🙂
December 5, 2017 at 17:44

December 5, 2017 at 19:24
Thanks Seth
I checked it, i want more that inform
December 5, 2017 at 16:45
Hi Brit, am DV2018 selectee from AF region, Ghana to be precise. I am aware Ghana applicants do not need affidavit of support, however, my hosts – my Dad is a pensioner who just go his green card through marriage to my step mum and my step mum too doesn’t have a full time employment. We are a family of five – myself the principal, my wife and three kids.
1. Do you advise I get affidavit of support anyway? Or
2. Having enough account balance should be enough.
Many thanks Brit.
December 5, 2017 at 17:57
Having a host is all you will normally be asked in Ghana.
December 5, 2017 at 17:17
Dear Brit,
My wife is the winner of DV 2018. My wife failed one subject the final exam in High school but later passed that subject when she was given the chance to sit the exam again. Could that be the reason for visa refusal? Thanks a lot in advace!!
December 5, 2017 at 18:00
That would be up to the CO to decide.
December 5, 2017 at 18:49
Is it likely to be denied?
December 5, 2017 at 19:50
As I said – it is up to the CO – so I cannot guess the outcome.
December 5, 2017 at 17:39
Dear Simon recently high court of us confirmed the travel ban for the six country with most muslim people does this mean they will be exited from lottery process?
December 5, 2017 at 18:00
It means they cannot generally be approved while the ban is in force.
December 5, 2017 at 17:50
Hello sir, this countries Ban ill increase selecting chances for other counters ? how is Asian Region ? asion other countries ill be got visa without companions ? what ill held
December 5, 2017 at 18:01
We have to wait and see.
December 5, 2017 at 19:27
hello,
how long does this travel ban last? is there any hope for these countries? or is it just over??
December 5, 2017 at 19:51
There is no end date currently set. So – the most likely change is through legal action.
December 5, 2017 at 19:41
Hi Simon
I hope you are doing well. I have some question:
1- IF I unlocked my DS-260 form just to correct the mistake, should I answer all the question again? I am so scared i don’t know.
2-then to correct the mistake should I go step by step till resubmitted page(last page)?
3-Then when I correct the mistake, will I get a new confirmation page ot the same confirmation page that I got the first time?
AND I suggest that those who got approvals for this process ( i mean interveiw) to talk about the experience and the question that have been asked teward them, in the comment section, I would really appreciate it.
Many thnks for you SIMON
December 5, 2017 at 19:53
1. No need.
2. Yes you go through to the final page to submit.
3. New number.
There are MANY interview experiences. Read them – you will see the same pattern over and over again.
December 5, 2017 at 20:51
Hi Mr. Brit this is my second time question.
If I’m the victim of different disease like cancer, hiv, diabetic and so on is it any problem for interview or can they reject it me.
Thanks.
December 5, 2017 at 21:25
Always check the FAQ.

December 5, 2017 at 22:38

Ask the embassy.
December 5, 2017 at 22:47
hi brit
in a response to one of us concerning ds260 confirmation page. i unlock mine n resubmitted n was given thesame confirmatuon number. unlike your response of being issued a new one.Does it varies or is a technical error to be given thesame confirmation number
December 5, 2017 at 23:40
Hello, i am a 2015 DV winner. I am now in New York. I was single during all my process but i meet a girl and getting marriage one week before comming here… After my interview What can i do in that case then..
December 6, 2017 at 00:34
Family sponsorship. It will take around 2 years.
December 6, 2017 at 00:08
Hi dear Brit hope u r doing well.i want to ask you about my husband passport he reniew it this day and when I fill the ds260 I put the old passport number, my CN AF 17*** ,so do I have to unlock my ds for the new reccord of the passport or just to take it with us on the interview day, thanks a lot for your assistance
December 6, 2017 at 00:33
Either way is OK. Unlocking is better.
December 6, 2017 at 00:17
Help! There is a typo on my I 864 and I typed my ssn wrong. It is already submitted I went online and they have typo corrections for almost every form except I 864. How do I correct it?
December 6, 2017 at 00:32
I don’t know. I only answer DV lottery related questions.
December 6, 2017 at 00:46
God bless you Mr Simon. I married in April, then added my spouse to my case and submitted in June. But when we had our baby this November and I added my baby, the name of my baby and a ds260 form is on the case, but my spouses name doesn’t appear. Is this normal, or do I need to readd my spouse so the name appears on the list of my applicants.
December 6, 2017 at 01:01
Did you create a DS260 for the spouse? If yes, you should see three completed DS260s when you log in to yours and the embassy should expect three of you to attend the interview (although you can confirm that with the embassy if you want).
December 6, 2017 at 01:08
Thank you so much for the quick response. You’re indeed an angel. I unlocked this November to add my baby and saw just my name. No DS260 was created for my spouse. What should I do. Please.
December 6, 2017 at 01:28
You have to create a DS260 for your spouse using add applicant.
December 6, 2017 at 01:52
Thanks a million Mr.Simon. Just to disturb you again, please don’t be mad. I’ve already signed and submitted just today do I need to write to KCC to unlock again, or can I access it and add my spouse?
December 6, 2017 at 02:24
You may need to unlock. Your form needs to list the spouse and there needs to be a DS260 for the spouse too.
December 8, 2017 at 18:22
God bless you again Mr.Simon for you continuous patience with our never ending inquiries. There was actually a serious mistake, we thought we had uploaded the marriage certificate, but the file exceeded 2mb and since we didn’t know if we had to fill another ds260 we just thought we were done filling the principal applicants own form. If not of you. God bless you.
So we wait now.
December 8, 2017 at 18:42
Ahhh that makes sense. OK – good luck.
December 6, 2017 at 04:17
Hello Sir.
Do you recommend any dental insurance? Are these paid monthly or annualy? I am an F1 Visa holder waiting for the interview letter for the 2018 DV lottery by AOS.
Thank you.
Jorge
December 6, 2017 at 05:43
I don’t have any recommendations for dental insurance as the costs are not as catastrophic as healthcare costs.
December 6, 2017 at 07:12
does this ban include bonafide relationship? like sisters and brothers?
December 6, 2017 at 17:08
The exception for bona fide relationships has now been removed.
December 6, 2017 at 07:14
hi:
i am from mumbai-india
1. assuming my F3 visa interview is held on 15feb18, & the interview goes ok & my permanent residency (green card) is approved (on, let’s say 18feb18) , what would be the last/latest date on which i WILL have to land in usa for my green card.
2. on my *first visit to usa for my green card, what MINIMUM period would i have stay (in usa), before traveling *back to india. (after procuring the gc)
December 6, 2017 at 17:09
I only advise on DV lottery cases.
December 6, 2017 at 10:03
Hello Simon,
Job offer letter has to be hand signed by the employer ? Company just send me the letter via email but it is not hand signed.
Thank you
December 6, 2017 at 17:14
There are no defined rules about that that I know of, but it is “normal” that a letter is signed.
December 6, 2017 at 10:22
HI SIMON
PLEASE I TRUST U FINE
FIRSTLY I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THEY CAN DENY SOMEONE BASED ON THEIR MEDICAL RESULT?
A FRIEND OF MINE USED HIS OLD PICTURE IN REGISTRATION OF THE LOTTORRY BECAUSE OF SOME EMERGENCY SITUATION THAT TIME. PLEASE I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THEY CAN DENY SOMEONE BASED ON THAT?
THANK YOU
December 6, 2017 at 10:30
It’s seems that your keyboard’s caps lock button is broken, you may need to bring it to the hospital first
December 6, 2017 at 17:16
LOL!
December 6, 2017 at 17:15
They can deny someone for various reasons including the two you asked about. That does not mean denial is high risk for those two things.
December 6, 2017 at 21:36
Hi Brit, something just crossed my mind on this same topic – medicals. Should a principal applicant pass and any of his derivatives, say spouse, fails,
1. can that lead to denial of visa for the principal and/or the derivative?
2. In case the principal is issued with the other derivatives, how does the spouse later join the family?
3. Does a blood relation resident offer any advantage at all to an applicant’s case?
4. To prove work experience qualification, can one print the job zone details on the O*Net website and attach to the document as proof of qualification by work experience?
Many thanks.
December 7, 2017 at 00:11
When you say some “fails” the medical – read the FAQ about what causes denial in a medical. It is RARE!
1. Not the principal, but of course – the derivative concerned.
2. Possibly. It would depend on the circumstances.
3. No
4. That is one part of proving work experience is met. Someone should also put some thought and effort into how they can prove they have performed the rile that matches the O*Net job description.
December 6, 2017 at 10:25
Hello Mr. Brith my wife is a DV 2018 winner and I am adding to the program, but my fear is we got marry ,August 10 and she graduated from high school August 30,the same year and month we got marry. so on all her school documents she is bearing her father last name. my question is.
will the interview not ask what is it we got marry before my wife graduate from school, but she is still bearing her father last name on the school documents ?
December 6, 2017 at 17:16
That doesn’t matter as far as I know.
December 6, 2017 at 10:35
Hello Brit,
When I was filling my DS 260 form I was ask if I have ever use other names and I said no ,bu my fear is,I realized I have used other name, because when I was not married I was using my father name as my surname now that I am married I am now using my husband surname as my surname so my question is will that be a problem because I chose no or was that the type of name they were talking about on the DS 260 form?
December 6, 2017 at 17:18
If you have changed your name through marriage or other reason then you should have replied yes to the other names question and completed the details. Unlock the DS260 and correct it asap.
December 6, 2017 at 11:10
Hello brit, im from ethiopia and i didn’t fill my passport number when i submit ds260 form on may 18 , i have tried to unlock for the but it responds as if kcc adress is wrong adress ,does it have a problem on my case process , i haven’t scheduled yet for the interview my case number is14429,tank u
December 6, 2017 at 17:19
What email address are you using?
December 6, 2017 at 12:09
Hello brit from ghana can i go to the interview without medical report.?
I want to do it after the interwiew
December 6, 2017 at 16:20
Yes u can. I went to the interviww with my wife and 8 months baby and we were directed to do the interview after our interview. If your interview is successful then you proceed for the medicals. But if u are able to do it before the interview too that’s the best. In that case you will get your visa early when your interview is successful. But if u sense and doubt your legibility, then please go for the interview first and see the outcome.
The only advice I will give u from the experience I had at the US Embassy Accra is that be very truthful as much as possible and never present any fake documents. Be who you are and present documents exactly as presented in your DS260 and everything will be fine. All that Brit says is true!!
December 6, 2017 at 17:47
Some embassies will allow that, some won’t.
In Ghana I believe that would increase chance of refusal because it suggests that you expect denial.
Further, this approach can create delay and risk. If you provide the report after the interview and that means the case is not able to be approved by the end of your original interview month, the embassy have to send back your allocated visa to KCC. Then, once your case is ready to be approved there is delay (and risk) while the embassy asks KCC to allocate another visa to the case.
So – in short, yes you could probably do that, but should ONLY do that if you understand the increased risks and delays.
December 6, 2017 at 13:10
Hey Brit,
I wanted to know when you get your case number is it when you enter your confirmation number?
December 6, 2017 at 17:48
When you are “selected” as a winner.
December 6, 2017 at 17:55
Yes, and I had another question and I commented the question, thanks for this Brit you are amazing
December 6, 2017 at 17:53
Hi Brit, I wanted to know if it says current I’m I getting the interview let’s say my # is 214xx and it says current at 21000 what does that mean
December 6, 2017 at 19:04
Please always check the FAQ.

December 6, 2017 at 19:56
Thanks Brit, you really are awesome!!
December 6, 2017 at 18:08
HI Britsmon i would like to appreciate your hard work. But i would like to ask you a question firs t when i submitted my dv form i wrote my birth date like dec 1 1995. and now can i correct in the ds 260 form like nov 31 1995. i made a mistake of one day only. does it have a problem and could they deny me the visa. but all other thinks are done perfectly without a mistake including names, place of birth etc.
December 6, 2017 at 19:05
That would not normally cause a denial. Correct it asap.
December 6, 2017 at 18:54
Hi Simon,
I was hoping you could once again help me with a question.
I attended an educational institution from 2008 until 2013. In 2017, I went back for two days to retake an exam that I never finished back in the day when I was actually attending the institution. In my DS260, I entered the dates attended as 2008 – 2013. Do you think I should unlock and add the two days in 2017 or possibly even adjust it to say 2008 – 2017? It just doesn’t seem right since I didn’t attend the school between 2013 and now and literally only went back for two exam days this year. My diploma is stamped as 2017, btw.
Is there any point in emailing the embassy of my country about this and asking them what would be the correct way to enter it?
December 6, 2017 at 19:06
You must make a choice. If it were me – I would not include the second period of 2 days.
December 6, 2017 at 19:20
Hi Brit
Do you know why thi website is not showing the case number?
https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/law-and-policy/bulletin/2018/visa-bulletin-for-november-2017.html
December 6, 2017 at 19:47

Hi Britsimon! May God bless you for all your help!
I am in a dilemma. I completed the training I mentioned in my DS 260 as a primary activity four months ago. And so since all this time I do not do anything. I still have the student card of this school and the certificate of completion. I would like to know if I have to attach this certificate of completion to the files that I will have to pick up during my interview? should I just go with my student ID card and say that I’m still a student just to make things easier? Or should I go with everything and say that I finished my training for already 4 months and that I do nothing currently if the consul asked me what I’m doing now?
Thank you for helping me Please! Interview scheduled for January at Dakar

Don’t tailor your statements of form to anything that is not true ” just to make things easier”. Lying, or not being completely truthful is a quick path to denial. Just tell the truth.

Hi Brit, how are you?
Me and my wife will enter the interview out side of our home country, cause we are living there, and at the our interview country’s us embassy web site there is a pdf about the needed documents, at this document they wrote that “Passport must bear your most
recent name (for example recently married applicants).”
Here is my question:
I’m the selectee and in my wife’s passport doesn’t bear her recent name, we married 1.5 year ago but we don’t need the change it from her passport. and we don’t any possibility to get new one. Is it a big problem? (btw we have marriage certificate and she has new i.d. card of our home country with her new surname etc.)
Thank you./

It’s not a “big problem”, but you should get a new passport because her legal name has changed.

But we cant do it for now. Will it be a problem in interview? I mean can we have green card with this passport. Also its not a problem for us, she can live with his own surname in USA.

Well I am trying to advise the path to least complication and risk. Your choice.

She has left it too late to do anything under the DV case. So – when she moves to the USA she can file a family based petition – that will take about 2 years.
