Hello, if I have visited my relatives in other country with tourist visa and stayed at their place for 3 months, do I need to enter their address for the question Have you lived anywhere other than this address since the age of 16?
December 10, 2017 at 19:22
No.
December 10, 2017 at 18:17
Hello Mr.Brit! Is it possible that an early divorc with no kids, more than 25 years ago can send to a visa denial? Thank you!
December 10, 2017 at 19:14
Absolutely nothing to do with a visa denial.
December 10, 2017 at 19:21
That has nothing to do with a visa.
December 10, 2017 at 19:17
Hello, what happens if I start working outside my country after ds260 is sent, and work there for at least 6 months, but before interview is scheduled? Request for unlocking the ds260 (I do not know when this should be done) to enter new address or that is finished and the new situation should be explain at the interview?
December 10, 2017 at 19:20
Unlock and add the details.
December 10, 2017 at 19:25
But when, at start of the new job or after some time? What if the scheduling of the interview is near?
December 10, 2017 at 19:59
Hi brit. Thanks for all the advice and help you provide to us. We successfully passex our interview and recieved our visas. Thanks very much. I have one question to ask though.
Our host is in COLORADO, but we contacted him on the when we are arriving in America and he told us that by the time we reach, he is going to be out of thd country, So my worry is the sealed documents they gave us has his address as the final destination. So what can i do to change the address so that i go to another relative in boston (Massachussets)
December 10, 2017 at 21:19
At the arrival airport inform the officer of the change.

Many thanks dear Simon for your great assistant and cooperative to the DV Winners.
I have one question that we got our visa and everything is OK, only that my wife full name in her passport is like A B C and her Surname is C that her last name C is duplicated two times in her full name and Surname.
But, her Visa is shown in her given name only A B , without C. And in her surname is shown C .
My question is that needs to contact US embassy to add C in her given name, or it is OK.
Furthermore, I am principal applicant and she is derivative.
Thank you in anticipation.
December 10, 2017 at 21:20
Contact the embassy if you are concerned.
December 10, 2017 at 20:16
Hi Mr. Brit
Hope you doing well..
I am a Yemeni citizen which one of the countries banning travel according to the third excutive order. I had an interview with the DV visa at the US Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. All things went well, although the Consular took a long time to verify my documents. He told me that if there was no Travel ban, he would agree to the visa. He took my mail Id and told me that he would contact me if the ban block or finished, to submit my passport by post and to print the visa.
He also asked me, if the ban continues for a long time, do I ready to conduct the medical examination once?, I told him yes.
My questions are:
1.What is your opinion, Mr. Brit?
2. Do you think what the Consular said is reassuring?
3.Do you think that travel ban may end before the month of September 2018.
4.Is it true that the Trump III ban is for three months and will ends on January 18, 2018
December 10, 2017 at 21:14
The current ban has no planned end date. So there is no way to predict what will happen.
December 11, 2017 at 05:53
Thanks for your reply, appreciate.
October 14, 2018 at 12:43
So someone can sue the the embassy specially that Yemen still eligible country for DV visa?
October 14, 2018 at 15:13
Sue for what????
December 11, 2017 at 05:14
Salam Sameer!
My case is almost the same as yours although I have not conducted my interview yet!
Also, I would really appreciate it if you help me with the following:
1) Were you born in Saudi Arabia? Does it make a difference as you have never been to Yemen?
2) What do you mean by mail ID? Do you mean your email address? or P.O.Box?
3) I didn’t understand you when you were saying ” He also asked me, if the ban continues for a long time, do I ready to conduct the medical examination once”, Would you please clarify that to me?
شكرا

Hi BritSimon,
Official interview instructions: “photocopy of each document is required. The copies will be kept and originals returned to you”. Do they mean also police records ? I dont need the police records they can keep that, I mean its just a record. Do you think I have to make aslo copy of police r. ?? Thank you.
December 11, 2017 at 02:25
I don’t think so, but it’s one extra copy…
December 13, 2017 at 10:57
you don’t need copy of that, they will keep police records, I had an interview a week ago

HI SIMON
AFTER 2NL SENT APPOINTMENT OF INTERVIEW SHOULD BE MADE ONLY BY MAIN APPLICANT ONLY OR ALL THE DERIVATIVES ALSO?

December 11, 2017 at 11:03
Hello Dear SIMON
I hope you are doing well, when I filled DS-260 form my husband studied master degree but now he finished and he had held master certificate. My question is, Do I need to open DS-260 form and change it?
Sincerely Regards
December 11, 2017 at 14:58
If you want to – but it is not essential.
December 11, 2017 at 13:19
Hello dear Simon
I won dv Lottery for the year 2018 , after i sent the form DS260 , I found that , there’s one mistake in my son name in native language , but the name in English is correct , the mistake only in one letter in the last name , so could you please advise me what to do . shall i request to unlock the form for correction and that means i have to apply for new passport to my son or shall i wait until the date of interview and make the correction with new passport .
Your answer will be in higher appreciate.
Thank you
December 11, 2017 at 15:01
Personally, I would unlock to make sure the visa is correct.
December 11, 2017 at 13:30
Hi,
I’d like to address a question to whom it may concern in this forum, couple of weeks ago I’ve applied for DEV2018. today when I want to check out the status I realized that I’ve forgot(lost) my Confirmation number. I went through all required fields to retrieve my # but unfortunately it gives me” Information entered is not valid.” even-though I’m 100% sure about my personal records, in consequence I’m pretty afraid if this can impact my application in case I got the chance to win to lottery.
Please HELP!!!
December 11, 2017 at 15:02
Wait until checking is allowed in May 2018.
December 11, 2017 at 15:07
but I’ve lost my confirmation id number how can I retrieve it,
knowing the factors I’ve mentioned prior!
December 11, 2017 at 17:11
Once the checking period is open you will be able to use the lost confirmation link.
December 11, 2017 at 16:09
Hello brit i got email this day and said register an appointment. I do evry steps but finally he couldnt load what is that? Thank you
December 11, 2017 at 17:10
I have no idea.
December 11, 2017 at 17:00
Hello Brit,
I have a question for you that has been bugging me for a while now.
I am not sure how to show the consular officer that I won’t be a public charge once in the U.S. I am European, 24-years-old and a university graduate without any dependents. I read about the public charge requirement and contacted my local U.S. Embassy to inquire about the issue. I was told that I may be asked to submit Form I-134 but I should note that it is not one of the required documents.
I want to make sure that I have a solid application since this is a huge opportunity for me so I asked if in the absence of Form I-134 I could show them money in my bank account or a job offer but they wrote back ignoring my suggestions and telling me that if they have any inhibitions about my application they will ask for Form I-134.
Soooo, do I go to the interview hoping they won’t ask for Form I-134 and get rejected once they do or is there something else I can do?
December 11, 2017 at 17:25
The smartest thing to do is get the I-134.
https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
December 11, 2017 at 17:35
Thanks for your reply 🙂 I’m with you on that and if I knew anyone in the U.S. I wouldn’t even think twice about it, but unfortunately I don’t know anyone who can do that with me. It seems so unfair that even though I have 10,000 euros in my bank account and can support myself they can just ignore that and decline my application because I don’t know anyone in the U.S. The purpose is diversity after all.
December 11, 2017 at 17:46
It is not “unfair” to apply the immigration laws. This is a privilege, not a right. Now – read the link I gave you to understand how they consider each case on its merits.
December 11, 2017 at 18:25
I had read your post on the public charge topic very carefully and I decided to reach out because it lacked a course of action for the case when the applicant lacks ties to the U.S. (unable to get Form I-134) and the local embassy does not allow other forms of assets or income to be presented as evidence that the applicant will not become a public charge.
I understand that they may accept my application regardless of whether I have a Form I-134 or not, but it’s a grey area that not you nor my local embassy have managed to define in a way that makes me confident about my interview.
I should note that I find your website very helpful overall however.
December 11, 2017 at 18:36
I think you are overthinking things, and reaching pessimistic conclusions for no reason.
The article DOES make clear that savings and job prospects are taken into account when an I-134 is not presented.
BUT, no one can tell you *definitively* what the outcome of your interview will be, because it is up to the CO to decide. But having an understanding of how they make their decisions should help you prepare.
December 11, 2017 at 19:10
Hello Brit,
Will someone with over $50,000 dollars for himself, spouse and son still require the I-134 form?
December 11, 2017 at 20:04
Not typically – but a handful of embassies would still prefer the I-134.
December 11, 2017 at 21:04
Is the embassy in Accra one?
December 11, 2017 at 21:25
No – they typically ask about a host.
December 11, 2017 at 19:32
Hi Simon. Thank you so much for helping all of us with the process, your help is more than appreciated.
I have a question: What should I write for the permanent address part on the DS260, if I don’t have one in the US yet? I first wrote my friend’s address, where I want to have the green card mailed to, too, but I know I won’t be living there when I get to the country. She’s just a reliable person I know, that’s why I wrote down her address. I might stay a few nights there, just to visit, but I’m going to get my own place when I move there. I just don’t have it yet. Can I keep that address on the form, even though I wouldn’t permanently stay with her when I get there, or what should I write on it?
Other question: Which occupations do you need to be certified by the Secretary of Labor? There’s a question on the DS260 about this asking if I’m going to be performing skilled or unskilled labor but have not yet been certified by the Secretary of Labor, what does this mean? Like, yes, I want to work when I get to the country – skilled or unskilled – but I don’t have a job yet, so do I need some kind of a certification for that from the Secretary of Labor? Should I answer yes or no to this?
I know these questions might sound stupid to you, but I’m kind of lost with these two on my application.
I was also wondering about the medical field -question, but I found your info on that from the FAQ, thank you. I’ll probably answer “no” to that, since I haven’t actually graduated from any medical school yet, but plan to attend to one in the US. I work as a dental assistant at the moment after studying one year in a dental hygienist school. I want to study to be a dental hygienist in the US. Anything I should know about entering the country with a DV program and wanting to become a student? Something they would ask or want to know about this?
Thank you for your time!
BR, Nelli
December 11, 2017 at 20:16
1. The address you give on the DS260 is where the GC and SSN will be sent. You can update at the interview, and then finally at the POE (arrival airport).
2. Don’t worry about the labor cert question. Answer yes or no – it doesn’t matter.
3. Medical school – again – don’t overthink that question. It doesn’t affect your DV process.
December 12, 2017 at 17:18
Thank you Simon, Happy Holidays! 🙂

December 11, 2017 at 19:35
Hi Brit,
Will someone with $50,000 for himself, spouse and son still require affidavit of support?
December 11, 2017 at 21:35
Hi sir
I am a LPR living in the USA about two years ago and I’m currently unemployed but my husband works and we have a joint bank account. I am also looking for a job. My question is can I invite my mom to come and visit us for a holiday even though I am unemployment for now? Or I should wait until I get a job? She has some assets on her own too.
December 11, 2017 at 23:10
I only answer DV lottery questions.
December 12, 2017 at 02:06
Hi Brit,
I hope all is well. My sister was one of the 2018 DV winners. She submitted DS260 and received the appointment letter from the KCC. She is from Somalia and her interview was scheduled at US embassy in Djibouti earlier in this month. She went to the embassy with all her documents at the date and time of the appointment. Unfortunately, the embassy told her that she was not in the list of the people who had an appointment at the embassy in that day despite having the appointment letter. They told her to write application letter to the embassy and bring it the other day. She has done it but received no response from the embassy yet. I think it is somehow related to the travel ban but in this case, what would you advise her to do?
December 12, 2017 at 03:22
Wait for the embassy.
December 12, 2017 at 05:45
Sir. Thanks for your help. I have one question.
While filling my DS 260 it says information here should match your passport. I am married and passport have my husbands surname. The 1nl have my surname as birth certificate. My question is
1. Should I fill my DS260 with my surname and write my husband surname in other names
2.should I fill my DS260 with my husband surname as in the passport and write my surname in other names.
Sir please help me iam confused.
December 12, 2017 at 05:51
1. No, the opposite.
2. This.
December 12, 2017 at 08:10
Hi brit
I am a dv lottery winner for 2018 and my interview is on jan 8. I had the marriage certificate before two years but me and my wife have been applying married for the past six years even if we do not have the certificate. Do you think our past marriage applications affects our interview?
December 12, 2017 at 14:44
No
December 12, 2017 at 08:21
Hi Brit, thanks for your help.
I have 2 questions sir
1.while I am filling ds260 form am confused in education level which to select from
– high school no degree
– high school diploma
I was graduated diploma(12+2) from college.
2.and which of education level from all the levels listed in the ds260 form is preferable to my college education. so I need your help sir what I have to select.
Thanks in advance sir.
December 12, 2017 at 14:45
Just pick one. It won’t affect your process.
December 12, 2017 at 10:27
Hi Brit,
Hope you are doing well.
On my passport, birth certificate and all documents issued from my country, my name has First name and Last name and that’s how I entered it in Ds260; however, in UAE, where I live currently (not my passport country) I issued a police certificate which came in the format of:
First Name Father name (as middle name) and Last name
Would this be a problem?. UAE IDs and visas are all like this. I had two b1 visas before with the format of First name and Last name
One more question, since applying to police certificate is completely online with no option to upload a photo; they have used an old photo of me (3-4 years old); do you think this would be a problem?
December 12, 2017 at 14:48
No problem.
December 12, 2017 at 10:35
Hi Brit,
When I go to the interview, should I take with me the same photos that I have uploaded to the entry or is it better to take new ones for me and my family?
December 12, 2017 at 14:49
New
December 13, 2017 at 14:07
Hi Kusai, how do you know that you have to take with you pictures when you go to the interview? My curiosity… Thanks
December 14, 2017 at 18:59
It is a requirement on the checklist of the embassy website where I’m going to make my interview
December 12, 2017 at 10:52
Hi Brit
In the application and ds260, I selected that I have a university degree and I’ve written that it is Associate in Information technology taken from an american X university. Do you think there is any problem with that because I’m not 100% sure if that associate is considered a university degree or not but according to my university, it is a degree.
On other hand, I do have completed 12 years of school and have high secondary certificate.
December 12, 2017 at 14:51
There is no problem. The associates is not an undergraduate degree, but your previous education will be your proof of education. Take the associates as well.
December 12, 2017 at 12:30
Dear Brit, I need your opinion about my case:
My case number is SA201820XX. I sent my DS-260 on May 2017. After that:
1) I actualiced the passports of the children’s.
2) Aditionally, I noted a mistake in the DS-260 about date initio of my job, this no is concordinwith my constancia the job.
My asks are: I have to solicit unlock the my DS-260 now? we are a family of cinco persons, only solicit unlock the DS-260 that needs be modifieds?. To send the DS-260 again will delay the process? Please give me your opinion, I want to it do the best posible.
Thank
December 12, 2017 at 14:53
You should correct the DS260s that need correction. That won’t cause delay.
December 12, 2017 at 15:06
Thank you
December 12, 2017 at 13:29
Another attack has been tried on newyork by a person who arrives to US by family sponsor visa and trump is very angry again we will see what he can do.
December 12, 2017 at 14:03
Hello bri
When I register in the DV Lottery 2019 place my two surnames.
Can it be a reason for disqualification?
December 12, 2017 at 14:55
Not normally.
December 12, 2017 at 14:47
Good day Mr. Brit, will there be problems at an interview in a USCIS field office (AOS) if I’ve submitted two diplomas of higher education (university degrees) but haven’t submitted any diplomas of a high school education? I just can’t get them from my parents in the foreseeable future (duplicate is not an option as well). It should be pretty obvious that you can’t enter any university without successful completion of a high school. Thank you very much in advance for any reply!
December 12, 2017 at 14:58
No it isn’t “pretty obvious” since adults that failed school can attend University. Get the education documents.
December 12, 2017 at 15:02
Really sorry for bothering you again but if I’m 50 years old and haven’t kept some school documents for 35 years I will end up getting denial????
December 12, 2017 at 16:50
You would get replacements from the education authority. But theoretically a person that didn’t produce education documents of the required level (Secondary school completion) could be refused – even with evidence of higher degrees. It would be a harsh refusal, but technically possible.
December 12, 2017 at 15:41
Good day sir,
One question please.
If i summit my ds-260 November and December my case number goes
current, is it possible I get schedule in December?
December 12, 2017 at 16:47
No. Interviews have already been scheduled for January. The next interviews are for February.
December 12, 2017 at 16:56
Hello Simon,
Do I need to show my savings (bank statement) also at the port of entry to the US ? Thank you
December 12, 2017 at 17:04
No
December 12, 2017 at 17:00
Hi SImon , I am the winner .I made the interview in the embassy but the counslar asked my husbend to answer some questions and send them by mail to them. and he told me that they need to do some office work and investigations and then they will contact us , it could take a week or months, does that mean that we lost the chance to get the visa
December 12, 2017 at 17:04
No, it means you will wait.
December 12, 2017 at 17:07
hello brit, i have some questions
1) i need to show my banks accounts or something like my cars or apartment for the interview?
2) my wife and me, we sent the ds260 in june (winners 2018), but our new child was born 2 weeks ago….. i send an email to KCC to unlock our DS…. they do…. we edit that, we put that we have a child
but, when we ADD the baby and they ask ALL the question (personals, security, etc) they ask for the passport of the baby, and i will receive like in 2-3 months…. what should i have to do? because his ds260 is incomplete until i send that….. i just wait?
i call to kcc and they told me that is fine, i need his passport is to the interview, they just need right now to assign an interview is the ds260
please tell me is that is fine or not, thank you
December 12, 2017 at 18:10
1. Yes you need to show financial ability.
2. Use the passport of one of the parents for now.
December 12, 2017 at 19:11
mr simon
after all bad events that happen in use
Is it possible for Trump or the congress to take a decision to cancel the 2018?
thanks in advanced
December 12, 2017 at 20:56
No
December 12, 2017 at 19:31
Hi Simon! How are you?
Please can you give an advise? Afriend of mine with family had the interview few days ago and their visas got refused. Unfortunately, he didn’t do by himself the first application (dv entry). The person who did it, filled the form as per single person. My friend is married and has 2 children.
Can he do smth to change the consuls decision? Filling the I 601 form can help him?
Thanks
December 13, 2017 at 00:08
That is clearly a correct refusal. There was no way that was ever going to be approved, and there is no way to change their minds.
December 12, 2017 at 20:43
Hello Mr. Simon, I registered in the Dv2019, only with the last name of my husband “Bravo”, but my passport says “Anabalon de Bravo”. I will have a problem of being disqualified for this reason, or should I be selected, will I be able to place all my last name “Anabalon de Bravo” in the Ds260?
December 13, 2017 at 00:09
IF you are selected this can be fixed. But first – get selected.
December 12, 2017 at 21:02
sir
my sister has a salary of 43,000 in USA. they are family of four . of course the husband is working . we are family of four. so the total is 8 people. they stay in seatle. if she gives the I-134 will it qualify.

Dear Sir, Best regards for your continous helping. I’m a winner of 2018 and applied for 2019 too. But Im unsure whether I entered my Surname and family name incorrectly. I mean in 2018 xxx — — xx and in 2019 xx — — xxx. Will it make a problem.
December 13, 2017 at 04:32
If you are a winner already, why do you keep playing? What sense does it make?
December 13, 2017 at 10:14
It is sensible to play again. Being a winner doesn’t mean you will be approved.
December 13, 2017 at 14:17
Does somebody really hope that there is a chance of getting approval at a second shot after an initial denial? What could change during a year? I really don’t get it. Too many applications because it’s free.
December 13, 2017 at 14:44
There are plenty of good reasons to apply again. You don’t have to “get it”.
December 13, 2017 at 05:30
Probably not.
December 13, 2017 at 05:38
Thanks Sir.
December 13, 2017 at 03:29
So Accra only require a host but not a I- 134

December 13, 2017 at 14:50
UNlock and correct. You have months to wait anyway.

Hello Brit Simon,
I submitted entry for DV2018 in October 2016, and have been selected (EU217XX). According to visa requirements: Starting November 1, 2016, eye glasses will no longer be allowed in visa photos. But when submitting my entry I uploaded photo with glasses in October 2016. Is this something I should worry about? Can they cancel my case? What is your opinion?
Many thanks in advance! Raf
December 13, 2017 at 14:45
It doesn’t affect you.

Hi Brit! I have been selected in the DV260 program and have been thinking about something: +- 100 000 people are selected for further processing through the DV program and only 50 000 green cards are available. I realize some people probably won’t go through with their application and some people won’t be eligible to receive the green card in the end. On the other hand, one selectee might want to take a husband and several children which means they will take up multipe green cards. So does it ever happen that they run out of green cards before everyone has had their interview? For example, if your interview is only scheduled in May 2018, could it be that your application is in order and that you meet all criteria but that you won’t obtain the green card since they “ran out”?

Hi Simon
Good Day!,
My wife is DV 2018 winner. I am her spouse. I had mentioned that I have done the mandatory military service in 1994 this was declared in my ds 260. Unfortunaitly the military authoroties in my home country did not keep old records data if it is out of range. my date of birth was exempted since 2013 by the rules. Therefore, they are unable to authenticate my document but they have issued for me an exempted military certificate according to the rule and my age. Is this issue can make any problem to me in the interview
Please advise.

I don’t know specifics for your country, so I cannot give an answer one way or another.

Hi Brits,I need your advice and I will do what you will advise me and appreciate that.
I’m a 2018 DV winner, main applicant,2018AS27XX from Yemen and my wife has dual nationalities(British and Yemeni)and my daughter(seven years old) as well.
I’d been in the UK for two years,2011-2013,with my wife and our daughter and all back to Yemen since 2013.My question is what is my chance to get the DV visa to the USA with my family after the ban??
Thanks in advance Brits.

As I understand the ban, since YOU are the main applicant and DO NOT have dual citizenship, then YOU cannot be approved. As you cannot be approved, your derivatives cannot be approved (even though they have dual citizenship).

Hi Simon,
My wife is an indian passport holder and i am from Africa. She wanted to apply for the OCI card (Overseas Citizenship of India) for me. Would that pose any problems for me as I am the primary applicant for the DV 2018 AF25XXX?
Kindly let me know if whether this is a good idea to apply for the OCI card now while my DV 2018 application is still under process and waiting anxiously for the interview.
Thank you and will appreciate your help or any suggestion on this matter.
Cheers!

I have never dealt with that situation before – so I don’t know.
