hello my question is what if you mistype and put an L instead of R
would they disqualify you
second question is what if you put two names in the first name field and another name in the second name field and leave the middle name, would it be a mistake
December 28, 2017 at 00:53
Name errors do not automatically lead to refusal. The important thing is to have correct names in the DS260.

Hello Brit,
Thank you for you endless support to answer all concerns raised up here. Mine is stated like that ” Twenty years ago I fled my country to neighboring country and stayed there for a period more that twelve months and then came back to my country. As I am 2018 DV selectee and would like to ask if I will be asked to provide a police clearance certificate issued by the police authorities of the country that gave the asylum, given that I was over 16 years old at that time ? If I cannot obtain a police certificate from the country of asylum , May I submit a written explanation when I will submit other documents including the police clearance issued by my native and residence country .
Best regards
December 28, 2017 at 00:51
The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. If you were in a country long enough (according to the instructions) then YES you are expected to provide a police cert. Just read and follow the instructions.

Dear Brit ,
Merry Christmas and happy new year in advance ,
I have a small question i received my 2nd appointment letter 1 week ago , do i need to email the embassy for confirmation of the appointment ? or no need ? because i am trying to use us visa site to do such and there is no option appearing for me for The DV visa , please note that the embassy is Riyadh Embassy Saudi Arabia.

December 28, 2017 at 00:49
You follow instructions from the embassy. They will tell you what to do. If you hear nothing, you just arrive according to the appointment.

https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
December 28, 2017 at 08:36
I can show in bank statements more then 10k
Is it normal or its better to change the sponsor?
December 28, 2017 at 15:27
The link I provided answers that!
December 27, 2017 at 10:35
When do you think it is advisable to submit the form. Thanks for the advice.
December 28, 2017 at 00:45
In what circumstances????
December 27, 2017 at 11:48
hi Simon, quick question please – one of the countries where I studied for my bachelor’s (Bulgaria) shows up with “Police Records Unavailable” note on the selectee website, however there’s a comment underneath which says that “Court Records are requested as a substitute”.
Further down, however, the website does say that these (Court Records) are only issued to citizens & legal permanent residents, neither of which applies to myself. Question: should I just ignore this requirement altogether, or at least provide proof of an attempt / rejection to get the Court Records in lieu of the Police Certificate? or any other way to demonstrate that i was never a citizen or LPR there (can’t really think of any, however)…
December 28, 2017 at 00:44
If the reciprocity page says you cannot provide documents then you are not expected to provide them.
December 27, 2017 at 13:18
Hello Dear Brit,
In February me and my wife will have our interview but we have a big problem
3 years ago my wife was hospitalized in the city hospital for a condition that is called Thrombocytopenia (low platelets counts in blood that cause bleeding and bruising)
However, after 2 week treatment with corticosteroids my wife is back to normally and from then on, thanks to God, is good and in perfect health
I wanted to ask you if we must declare this in our medical appointment?
If yes, should we take with us any reciept from the hospital?
Is it still valid the case record from 3 years ago?
Help us please, because we are very anxious and do not know what to do and what is the procedure?
Thank you in advance and happy new year!
December 28, 2017 at 00:42
You must be truthful at all times during the medicals and interviews. Just be honest. That condition has NO IMPACT on your visa.
December 27, 2017 at 15:57
Hi Dear Simon,
i am a winner DV2018. eu10xxx. Interview scheduled for Feb 2018

December 28, 2017 at 00:39
Of course it still applies. Q38 now.
December 27, 2017 at 17:11

December 27, 2017 at 21:50
Hey Simon, I have a DV interview in 2 weeks but there are rumors going around in my country (Turkey) that because Turkey’s and USA’s relationship is at an all time low, Trump has ordered the US Embassy to deny people with no reason left and right. I didn’t talk to or see anyone that experienced something like this but my friends and family are freaking me out. I was just wondering if there is any way for the rumors to be true. Or if Trump has such authority over the Diversity Lottery. Thank you
December 28, 2017 at 00:34
So – no one has told you any account (let alone a credible account) of such a thing – but you decided to ask anyway. Sheesh. That is a waste of my time and yours. Focus on your interview.
December 28, 2017 at 06:51
Hi Brit
is there a maximum limit for number of derivatives for one case?
Thanks bro
December 28, 2017 at 15:28
No.

December 28, 2017 at 16:38

December 28, 2017 at 17:06
They can decide whatever they want.
December 29, 2017 at 09:52
He’s, how did you know your interview is scheduled for July 2018?
December 28, 2017 at 11:40
when is it advisable to submit my form if my high school certificate will be out in August 2018. Thanks for the advice
December 28, 2017 at 15:25
May or June
December 28, 2017 at 13:57
Hi Brit,
We live in Germany and submitted our DS-260 here and waiting for interview in Frankfurt. Our case number is UE19XXX and I anticipate that we should be called around in May or June.
Now, my company is talking about moving me to US somewhere in February or March of 2018.
Should I just come back for interview with my family or submit for adjustment of status in US? Which process is better and safer?
Thank you in advance!
Rauan
December 28, 2017 at 15:22
Both ways have pros and cons, but you have to be careful with AOS that only a few visas allow immigrant intent and you can be disqualified for entering the USA with a plan to apply for AOS.
December 29, 2017 at 11:27
Can I still choose to go for interview in Frankfurt even if I live in US? I thought I had to apply for AOS if I am in US, I guess I was wrong.
I already lived in US under L1 A visa and most likely it is going to be the same type of visa again if company moves me.
December 29, 2017 at 15:45
Yes AOS is a choice, as is CP.
December 28, 2017 at 14:06
Hi Brit,
My number is EU 9XXX but I haven’t still get the 2NL and there is no change in ESC page. Is it normal? Should I call KCC?
December 28, 2017 at 15:20
Wait until next month.
December 29, 2017 at 20:45
Thank you! But is it a normal case? And should I call at the first days of January or should I have to wait two or three weeks?
December 29, 2017 at 20:50
Wait until the 2NLs go out in January – usually near the end of the month.
December 29, 2017 at 21:13
So you mean it is a normal case. Then my question is that even if I get the 2NL late still my interview will be handled in February. Am I right?
Sorry for too much questions and wish you a happy new year!
December 29, 2017 at 21:24
No, the notifications sent in January will be for March interviews.
December 28, 2017 at 16:27
Hi I ma Dhaniram from nepal. I came USA through maxico illegally on 2012. I was granted political asylum on March 2013. I applied for green card right after one year from the date of asylum approved (ie march 2014) . The date on the green card is wrong (The date on the green card was supposed to be March 2014 but the USCIS dated October 2014 which is 6 months later then it was supposed to be). Now I am in confused which date is to follow for naturalization. Since the date on the green card is wrong, should I follow the date on the green card or the time of the asylum approved? We as asylee, we are eligible for naturalization 4 years from the date on the green card.what would be the worse case scenario if I follow the date of asylum approved for naturalization( ie loss my money, pending case for long time)? I have proof that I applied for green card on time ( receipt from USCIS). I researched on google and said I could apply for naturalization but I need to wright a letter stating my situation. I would be very grateful if you could suggest me in right direction. Thank you.

December 28, 2017 at 17:12
Hi Brits hope you good?
i want to change my host and as such the location and i have read several of your answers to this question where you advice that its not worth it opening ds 260 for changing adress and can be done at the interview.
so i plan typing my new address on a paper so that i hand it over to the CO
is this how its done?
this at the notorious ACCRA embasy ghana
December 28, 2017 at 17:27
Yes you can do that.
December 28, 2017 at 18:27
alright thanks very much Brits
December 28, 2017 at 18:50
Hello Brits, I need your help please. My brother was selected for the DV lottery. He did already submit his DS 260. His email was hacked. What do you advice to do? Thank you
December 28, 2017 at 18:56
No advice other than keep an eye on the DS260 to make sure it stays locked and unchanged.
December 28, 2017 at 19:09
Thank you so much for your prompt reply. That is the first thing we looked at. When he tries to connect to the DS 260, the system is rejecting the case number with a message saying that the case number is wrong. We tried several times making sure we entered the right case number. Do we need to contact KCC?
December 28, 2017 at 19:17
We were able to access the DS 260. Is there a way to get the email address linked to the DS 260 changed?
December 28, 2017 at 19:45
There is nothing special about the email address linked to the DS260.
December 28, 2017 at 20:02
Thank you a million for replying. I was thinking about the interview invitation that he will receive by email. Also in case he needs to get his DS 260 unlocked to change something. He won’t need to access that email linked to the ds260?
December 28, 2017 at 20:38
No.
December 28, 2017 at 21:10
Thank you again

Not yet.
December 28, 2017 at 20:44
If someone want to USA under k1 visa and then he didn’t marry and then back to his home and apply for green card lottery and he win can this effect his chances to get the visa this is a different questions Mr Brit iam not repeating my friend facing this thank you
December 28, 2017 at 20:49
Yes it can affect a non immigrant visa application.
December 28, 2017 at 21:18
So he is safe because he is applying for immigrant visa now is that what you mean thank you
December 29, 2017 at 04:49
Dear Brit,
SIR thankyou in advance for usual help
How do one knows if his DS260 is stays locked and unchanged. Can you please tell me what to do? What to click?
December 29, 2017 at 06:02
If it says “COMPLETED” – that is locked. It can be reviewed to see if there have been changes.
December 29, 2017 at 07:41
Brit my worries is that I filled it back on May with the help of someone who help me by paying him filling the form.
sir my question 1. how can I review it to see if there have been changes? what procedure to follow.
2.If someone make a change is there away to change it back ?
my CN is 2018AF24XXX from Ethiopia.
sorry for my question and THANKS
December 29, 2017 at 15:44
1. You look at the entered data.
3. Of course – you ask KCC to unlock it and then make the change.
December 29, 2017 at 12:30
Hello mr Brit
I requested for my DS260 to be open for correction but for 8 days today I have had no response, please can you advice on that.
Secondly, I wish to know if a family can host my own family upon arrival in USA.
Thanks
December 29, 2017 at 15:46
1. Wait
2. Yes
December 29, 2017 at 15:55
Hi Brit, I m Yan. I am just wandering, what will happen if I apply for naturalization earlier than 5 years in normal case like for EDV. Do they accept applications and send send for biometric or simply they send it back? I have heard that money is gone once you applied? Would you suggest me please? Thank you.
December 29, 2017 at 16:01
I only answer DV lottery questions.
December 29, 2017 at 18:04
Hi Brit. is it necessary to summit your DS260 will some of my wedding photos
December 29, 2017 at 19:12
No
December 29, 2017 at 19:46
Thank you for your answers. I am from Morocco and I have a friend who had an interview yesterday. He was given his passport back and asked to fill out DS 5535. Why did they give him his passport back. Normally, they keep it until the visa is approved and they send it through aramex. Is his visa denied?
December 29, 2017 at 19:57
It is not a final denial – they just want more information.
December 29, 2017 at 21:40
If my certificate name is Mohamed and my birth certificate name is mohamad can one letter errror lead disqualification? Thank you brit Simon quick respond
December 30, 2017 at 00:48
Normally no problem.
December 29, 2017 at 22:05
“No, the notifications sent in January will be for March interviews.”
as a reply and new question to your reply.
So you mean that we don’t have interview date in February since we didn’t get e-mail in December. is it right? and why is that so? Our number is almost 800 numbers below from the cut off number for February.
December 30, 2017 at 00:47
I obviously don’t know why you were not ready for interview. It could be because you submitted your DS260 late, or it required additional background checks – I can’t be sure. But, it doesn’t matter, the Green Cards given in March are the same as those in February. So – be patient.
January 1, 2018 at 23:00
Thank you for your detailed answer. I submitted DS260 in May 2017. Maybe it required additional background checks as you said. I had been in Mexico, S. Arabia etc. Bu it’s happend rarely, right? Does it mean anything to me about my case?
Thank you very much again for your understanding.
God bless you
January 1, 2018 at 23:50
As I said – there could be many reasons. All you can do is be patient.
December 29, 2017 at 23:31
Hello,1) does a refused non immigrant application in the past affect on the dv lottery interview?
2)Does office consular compare the details filled on past non immigrant application to DV lottery one?
Thank you sir.
December 30, 2017 at 00:48
1. Normally not.
2. They can do, yes.
December 30, 2017 at 01:44
Is it fine even the pas non immigration contains some errors of spelling and personal information that were filled quickly ?will this affect negatively on the dv interview ?
December 30, 2017 at 04:13
I can’t predict the impact precisely.
December 30, 2017 at 06:26
Hi Simon,
Hope all is well. Belated Merry Christmas to you and have a prosperous New Year 2018.
My brother is a US citizen. He got his GC through DV about 10 yrs ago. He has sponsored me about 2 yrs ago but as you may know that sponsorship normally takes about 10 yrs. This is what i know from my knowledge.
Q1. My question is since my brother has sponsored me would that pose any problems for my case as i am a DV 2018 selectee AF25XXX?
Q2. Lets say i am called for an interview, can my brother be my sponsor since he is a US citizen ?
I really appreciate your continual assistance and help.
Many thanks and best regards
Aqib
December 30, 2017 at 06:40
1. No problem
2. Yes
January 3, 2018 at 07:10
Hi Simon,
Hope all is well.
My brother who is a US citizen will be sponsoring me & my wife.
Q1. I believe he has to fill out I-134 form. Beside this form what other documents does he need to provide to me before my interview ?
A. Can my brother email the form to me ?
B. Kindly let me know. Does he need to fill out one form for my wife and me ?
Q2. Do i need to provide any further documents to the CO or to my brother from my side as far as the affidavit of support is concerned ?
Q3. What is the I-864 form for? Does my brother need to fill in that form too?
Q4. My no is AF25xxx and if i have to give it a guess my interview won’t be before june 2018. What do u think based on the number on visa bulletin ?
Appreciate your support Simon.
Many thanks. cheers!
Aqib
January 3, 2018 at 16:49
1. W2/1040, Payslips, photo ID
1A. Yes, but mail is better.
1B. One for the family.
2. See 1
3. It is not used in DV cases, so NO. There is a FAQ entry on that difference.
4. Perhaps May or June.

December 31, 2017 at 00:38
Goodnight. I have a doubt. I signed up for the 2019 lottery. At the time of registration I placed my partner and I married in January. Will I have a problem with that? I await your prompt reply
December 31, 2017 at 03:41
It’s pointless worrying unless you are selected. It’s a LOTTERY.
December 31, 2017 at 23:18
Goodnight. that’s what worries me that brings me problems and that I’m married and what I have is the letter of concubinage. I await your prompt reply

Happy new year 2018
I would like to go to the United States around January 15th just to activate my green card and get back to Canada. I intend to live permanently in September 2018. I have two questions about.
1- Do I have to make a tax return in the US for 2017 even if I didn’t work in the US?
2- According to you, it is possible to validate my visa in an airport that has the American pre-clearance service without having to travel?
Thanks,
December 31, 2017 at 03:42
1. No because you are not activating in 2017.
2. No

Hello Brit,
Happy New Year 2018 in advance, may you and your family have prosperous life ahead My spouse is the winner of 2018 but we’ve got serious concern on this case. I hope you might help us with this. Me and my wife got legally married and obtained the marriage certificate after the entry of DV and before the result were published. But the case is, we married ritually like a month back and her father was dead already so in the photograph of our marriage her father is not their. My question is
1. Will it be a problem if there is no her father in the photograph??
It will be pleasure to get a reply from you..
Thanks.

hi,
I just got my Passport with the Visa and envelope for both me and my son, here is my experience with the process:
1- my interview took maybe 3 minutes, he asked me what university did i graduate from and what major and he asked my son about his age,
2- be prepared, and most important be truthful,
3- you can negotiate with the embassy of your interview before your interview date, I did not have a sponsor, when i got my first 1NL i sent them an email asking about I-134 form and if it was necessary they told me it is necessary to do so, but come my 2NL and i still dont have a sponsor i emailed them again telling them that i cant find a sponsor they replied it is fine as long as I can show proof of financial coverage, I showed them a total of 20K USD for both me and my son,
4- Do communicate with the embassy before hand and get copies of your emails with them, I must have emailed them a dozen times to ask about the following: about police records of places i have lived in but no longer do, about bringing my high school certificate when i have my univ degree (they said no need), and about I-134, birth certificate issued from my home country stating i was born in a different country (they said ok as long as it is notarized) …etc
5- prepare a checklist of what you need to bring for the interview, be honest and truthful along the whole process.
6- on my part i was estimating address names and lengths where it didnt seem to matter (this could be individual to my case)
7- i have traveled to the US after i was selected, and listed 5 visits to the us in the last 5 years, no problem there.
Finally, THANK YOU Simon for this great Blog and FAQs and all the help along the way, it was essential for my process.
December 31, 2017 at 16:04
Congratulations!

Hi Simon,
Thank you so much for all the help,
Now in this post i have couple of questions about after I got my visas:
1- I have got our visas me and my son, but i am planing to travel alone first for one week, for my landing then coming back for few month; then I will be taking my son before the visa expires for him, is that ok? that i go alone without him? i am the principal winner.

1. No problem.
2. Once you have activated he can travel on his own.
3. Before or after you entry – either way is OK, paying before speeds up GC
4. Yes

Hi Brit,am already in the US now,I travelled alone cuz am the principal winner and my spouse was put on AP the same day I travelled is the same day he was called by the embassy to come pick up his visa,he bought his flight already just for him to go to the douala international airport today for departure they’re telling him that he can’t travel to the US without his father/mother or spouse my question now is
1)Can I go back to Cameroon and then travel back to the US me and my husband?
2)can he just go back to the embassy for them to replace him with another visa?
Please am confused and I need ur answer presently am in the US I have been in the US for a month now and I have my SSN but still waiting for my green card since I paid the fee here my visa will expire in April thks am waiting for ur response.

You are not being very clear, but as I understand it the airline are stopping him travel. Take a copy of your endorsed visa and send it to him. Since you have already entered, he can follow you. YOu might need some travel authorization from the embassy if the airline are still being difficult.

Ok Simon thks I thought I should have gone and then will come back together but I will just scan my endorsed visa and he will go back to the airline and my question now is
1)should he go to the embassy in y’de to explain things or
2)should I have and authorization here in the US and send to him back home in Cameroon?

You’ll have to figure this out yourself. I haven’t known this to happen before, so discuss with the airline, see what it would take for them to understand the rules.

Hi Lionel, Just to confirm what Brit has advised you to do;
I work in an airline within Africa and checking travel documents is one of my job responsibilities. US and UK visas are especially very sensitive and the airline staff strictly follow the rules given on the visas to the letter, otherwise airlines are heavily penalized once they carry a passenger with incomplete travel documents to restricting countries.
1.Kindly check on what’s written on your husband’s visa at the “endorsement” section besides “must be accompanied by spouse/parent etc”. There should be another directive. If there is a “JTF”(to join or to follow), then you can scan him your endorsed visa to use with the visa.
2. In case of no “JTF” comment, the embassy is the best adviser to allow the airline to accept him on board. I wish I knew the airline he is using but the embassy can send the airline a mail instructing them that he is cleared to travel without the physical you,but with a scanned copy of your endorsed visa.
Otherwise don’t panic, as long as you rightfully have a visa from the embassy, the US embassy is the best and most reliable in terms of responding to visa questions when airlines need clarification.

Is like this on his passport ACC/FTJ going through the US immigration pages I just discovered that the ACC means accompany and the FTJ means follow to join they didn’t just interpret it well at the airport those ethopian airlines workers so he has no problem I have just screen shot the pages and send to my husband to print it and to to the airport show it to those ethopian airlines workers at the airport to read and understand it together with my docs hope it will help the situation thks Zahra for the enlightenment at least u made me to look for the meaning and understanding it very well.
