Hi Brit,
Just to ask that incase one used a different email when playing the DV as well as change the email when filling the ds260 form;
1. Which of the emails will the embassy use to send the 1st and 2nd NLs?
2. Will all those that went current during the June release be programmed for August?
Thanks.
June 18, 2018 at 14:25
1. The 1NL is the selected letter. I believe the 2NL goes to the email on the DS260 – but it doesn’t matter, no information is in that email.
2. I don’t know – they won’t be any sooner than August.
June 18, 2018 at 12:40
hello sir,
i was selected for the visa lottery in 2018, i went to the interview and the officer took my passport and gave me a form 221g. he said he will call in two weeks but never did. so i sent an email to inquire about the visa after two months and they replied to say i’d been denied because of multiple entries(i never did that).
now i want my passport back but they have not replied to any of my emails requesting for it. icalled and they said the consular section only takes emails and so they cant help me even when i told them the consular section is not responding to my mails.
please is there another way i can use to reach them and retrieve my passport since i need it for other things?
June 18, 2018 at 15:07
I don’t have any special method – you simply have to contact the embassy.
June 20, 2018 at 07:32
Hi Simon, I am done with interview the CO took our passports and didn’t ask for any documents but said if needed will contact you now the status is in AP. Wanted to ask how long usually it take till AP completes?
June 20, 2018 at 14:41
There is no “usually” – AP times vary greatly.
June 20, 2018 at 07:54
what does it mean multiple entries? he went.to US many times and.it.caused problems? and he said that he didnt do any multiple entries, how This Could happen?
June 20, 2018 at 14:43
Multiple entries to the lottery – cheating.
June 18, 2018 at 12:59
Hi Simon, hope all is ok with you. I have two questions for you:
1. Assuming my case will be current next month (EU235XX), should I already book the medical now or is it better to wait until the next VB is published? I am asking you this because I have no idea about the “queue” for the medical itself…
2. Do you have any idea why in the last VB Europe got just few numbers because of the Asian bans while AF, OC and AS itself went current, taking more numbers (at least this is my impression and quick calculation)?
Thanks and kind regards,
Fausto
June 18, 2018 at 12:59

June 18, 2018 at 13:13

June 18, 2018 at 13:19
Hi simon
I’m filling up the DS260, have a question…..
My oldest son 15 years old is asked to fill in WORK/EDUCATION/TRAINING INFOMATION
While my 2 younger sons age 13+ and 10+ were not asked, after PREVIOUS US TRAVEL, they are skipped to SECURITY N BACKGROUND INFO
Is that normal?
THANKS
June 18, 2018 at 14:09
And how many people will stay without visas? Much more than anywhere else. Why did they select so many people from Europe? Almost 42000 people for 18.300 visas, or?
June 18, 2018 at 18:52
Yes – they overselected in all regions, including EU.
June 18, 2018 at 14:48
Hi brit my name is Patrick my CN is 2019AF0000210,i fill my DS260 without my passport number because I’m still waiting for it from state services and hope to add it on my form once I receive it next month.
Is this can coz me any problem ?? A delay?
June 18, 2018 at 19:50
No problem.
June 18, 2018 at 15:05
birth place mistake is big problem Like My edv entry Addis Abeba My birthplce is Addis Ababa
June 18, 2018 at 15:58
No – it is not a big problem if it is another town in the same region/country.
June 19, 2018 at 10:31
My question is almost related to this, incase in the edv i wrote the birth city (litein) then in my passport it is written place of birth as Bureti(my district) and both places are indicated in my birth cert is it a problem or i should change my birth cert, passport?my national id reads another district but it is just within my area, which place should i fill in my DS 260 form?
2)Do they ask for your national id in the Embassy during interview?
June 19, 2018 at 17:49
My answer covers your first question.
2. Maybe – but certainly the passport.
June 18, 2018 at 18:10
Hello ,
My husband doesn’t have his birth certificate ? What can we do ?
June 18, 2018 at 20:09
Get a replacement.
June 18, 2018 at 18:14

Thank you very much
June 18, 2018 at 20:09

June 18, 2018 at 18:49

June 18, 2018 at 20:11
No
June 18, 2018 at 19:01
Hi brit,my CN is 2019AF0002XX my concern is I had fill my DS260 without passport because I’m still waiting for it from state services and it could be available next month than I can add it on,
Do you think is bad or can affect may CN negatively later???
June 18, 2018 at 20:12
It’s not a problem. Unlock and add it once you have it.
June 18, 2018 at 19:12
Yes, but AS, AF are current, more or less they will all get their visas (maybe because of the capacity somewere the selectees will stay ready on 30.09.), SA and OC are also more or less good, but in EU… With redistribution EU could also make it more or less… let us wait and see 🙁
June 18, 2018 at 19:19
Hi Brit
I have a questions, i hope you can guide me, i am in Venezuela my case is 15xx, i am waiting right now the 2NL for my interview in August, the question is in made a mistake in the ds-260 of one of my daughter, the mistake was in the number passport. It will be a problem, i,ll be probably refused by this mistake…
June 18, 2018 at 20:13
No problem.
June 18, 2018 at 19:43
The quota is 18,300 Eu. official number? I could not see
June 18, 2018 at 20:26
No. It is a calculated number, from the percentage quota based on the rules and then applying that percentage to a 50,000 global quota. I have explained that in various articles if you want to know more.
June 18, 2018 at 20:45
Hi Mr Brit simon.
My cousin was selected for 2019 Dv lottery. Please I will to know if she can use her high school Transcript for the DS 260 form then go with the original certificate on the day of her interview. She has not collected her original certificate yet.
June 18, 2018 at 21:19
She doesn’t need to submit any documents with the DS260.
June 18, 2018 at 21:17
Hi BritSimon,
I’m currently in the U.S. and will need to return home for my Diversity Visa Interview.
I was wondering:
1) Can I sit my medical in the U.S. prior to my interview, rather than having the medical in my home country?
2) Do the petitioner and their dependents receive their Diversity Visa at the same time if they attend the interview together?
Thanks in advance
JL
June 18, 2018 at 21:21
1. No
2. Typically, yes
June 18, 2018 at 22:05
Good evening I’m engaged to a girl and I’m selected for the DV2019 my case number is in the 10,000. can I fill the Ds260 without my bride and as our wedding is planned in February and also if I win the visa return in February for the wedding and at the same time as the fiscal year of 2019 is not finished , to get him into an embassy to get Visa so that he can join me in the USA as soon as possible?
June 18, 2018 at 22:11
That would be unwise. It would be better to bring the marriage forward, or delay the DV process until after the marriage.
June 18, 2018 at 23:34
I’m afraid the major refuses us both the Visa by what she’s 19 years old and I would have learned the americans ban marriage at 19
June 19, 2018 at 01:05
“americans ban marriage at 19”.
Nonsense.
June 18, 2018 at 22:32

Hello again. I have my interview coming up on the 31st of July. Will we usually be asked to provide proof of funds etc? If I don’t have enough funds, will it help to get the Affidavit of support form (I-134) filled out by my husband who’s a US citizen and shown to them? Thank you so much for the help.
June 19, 2018 at 01:06
Yes
June 21, 2018 at 14:57
Thank you so much for the response. Will it have to be notorized? Or will he be able to just send me the signed copy for me to bring to my interview?
June 21, 2018 at 16:43
No need to notarize.
June 19, 2018 at 02:32
Hi Simon. My relative was selected for 2019 DV Lottery and he is a holder of a Russian passport. He would like to complete the DS160 A.S.A.P. but he has at the moment only Russian passport, but not international passport. Obtaining of international passport will take 4-5 weeks and he is worried about submitting DS160 as soon as possible. Should he enter into DS160 passport number from his current Internal Russian passport that is used for travelling within Russia and serves as identity document. Or does he have to wait for the Russian International passport? Thank you very much. D
June 19, 2018 at 02:55
He doesn’t have to wait for that – but really – this is a long slow process – no need to rush.
June 19, 2018 at 15:43
Thank you Simon.
June 19, 2018 at 02:34
Also, Simon, I forgot to add that his number is 2019euxxxx24xx
June 19, 2018 at 04:42

June 20, 2018 at 16:49

June 19, 2018 at 07:09
Hi Brit.Hope you doing well.I have 3 question.Thank you in advance.

3)I wanted changed my adress that i i added to ds 260.but dont want opened ds 260 for it.so could i changed this adress at airport in u.s.a ?
June 19, 2018 at 17:39
1. No. It just means you completed it.
2. No
3. Yes
June 19, 2018 at 07:15
Hi Simon, maybe you missed my previous post, hope all is ok with you.
Thanks and kind regards,
Fausto
June 19, 2018 at 17:43
1. Wait until the 2NL
2. OC didn’t go current. AS went current because of the ban meaning many AS people cannot be approved. AF went current because there are many visas still available for AF within their quota (i.e. nothing to do with AS). EU did not go current because the issued count is already high and there are not enough visas for every case.
June 20, 2018 at 08:34
OK, Thank you!
June 19, 2018 at 08:16
Hi brit sam if those current in may yet got their 2nl for july interview. would u expect AF43xxx case can get interview early august ?

But I check my case it always saying ready and the last update was on June 11 of this year. Pls help me I’m confuse and worry.
June 19, 2018 at 17:50
You just have to wait.
June 19, 2018 at 11:03
Dear Brit,
I found bellow information on internet
“joint sponsor can be American or an LPR living in U.S.,
The joint sponsor must fill out and submit originally signed (Form I-134)
affidavit of support and Most Recent Income Tax Returns.”
I am the primary applicant +spouse +5 children we are 7 in total.
Q-1 LPR can be any Green Card holder living in US?
Q-2 Is there any minimum limit of income/year for the sponsor?
Q-3 Can 2 or 3 LPR combine without citizen or citizen + 2 LPR to achieve the minimum limit of income/year?
Q-4 How much income/year is required for sponsor to support 7 member (like my case) ?
Thanx in advance.
June 19, 2018 at 17:51
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. No

June 19, 2018 at 20:40
Dear Brit,
Thank you for the answer. You have mentioned bellow that Two people using I-134 from one person is a bad idea.
Can one person use Two I-134 from two different LPR’s ?
June 19, 2018 at 13:28
Hlw sir , i am going to apply for my mom and dad in tourist visa ?? what form i need to fill for that?? what are the document needed ?? is in compalsary or not to do medical for non-imigrant visa???? ans me thank you..
June 19, 2018 at 17:57
I only answer DV lottery questions.
June 19, 2018 at 13:32
Hey Brit, so both me and one other person have the same address and the same sponsor could this be a problem ? If it is a problem i won’t bring the i-134 (i won’t use it) but i don’t have a different address for the green card to arrive to and must use that one.
June 19, 2018 at 17:57
Two people at the same address is ok. Two people using I-134 from one person is a bad idea.
June 19, 2018 at 14:09
Hi Simon, I donated some coffee $, thanks for your help you are a champ. Concerned about the immigration talks at the moment. Would you say the DV is currently at the most risk it has ever been? If it gets scrapped, will DV2019 be cancelled, 2020? Both bills on the table have the DV scrapped, and Republicans seem ok with it.
June 19, 2018 at 18:08
So far this year there have been four bills suggested – NONE of them got anywhere (not even enough support to get to a vote). The Republicans don’t even support the bills out there, som e are saying the measures are not strong enough, some are unhappy giving an amnesty (and path to citizenship) to dreamers. So – even the Republicans can’t agree on this. As for the Democrats they are less likely to support these bills. Then Trump even came out and said he wouldn’t sign the bill. Then there is the slim chance of getting congress and the senate to agree. So – realistically, it is hard to imagine a deal being done. BUT, let’s say a deal is done and a bill gets passed. Even then, as time goes by it is increasingly unlikely to affect DV2019 – and at some point the start dates would be moved to a date at the END of DV2019 (in fact one suggested bill even gives that date now – although it can change).

1..what is the difference between when a case is at ”nvc” and when its at ”kcc”

3..is there any possibility of august interviews being sent in two batches?
4..when do cases turn to in transit or ready?
5..is there a way that i can know my ds260 has finished processing before receiving 2nl?
thanks
June 19, 2018 at 18:11
1. Nothing – although you are mixing two different systems.
2. No
3. Anything is possible.
4. Read the FAQ
5. It doesn’t take long to process it – just relax.
June 19, 2018 at 14:53
Mr brit, when I attended my interview my passport duration was about one year and because of extra document requested delayed my processes to be completed at the time, my case has been administrative processing and last month I was called again to get a new medicals which I have and my passport duration now is 6 months exactly in this month and wants to know if it can affect me though I met the passport requirement at the 13 November 2017 the interview date.thank you
June 19, 2018 at 18:14
You might want to apply for a new passport, and if necessary, travel with both passports.
June 25, 2018 at 05:54
Mr brit,Good morning.am worried and I can’t hide it anymore.on the 13 November 2017 was my interview date which I did though my wife is a beneficiary but I was there alone since on the ds 260 I stated she will join me later.the interview was successful and the CO I must confess was extra nice.since I stayed in another country more than a month I was asked to get a police report which I went through stress and spent much money to get eventually n since from the interview date my case has been administrative processing.just last month I was called again from the embassy to bring a new medicals which I did and still my case is showing AP.Can the extra document requested from me,which I go through a lot of stress to get them be a problem 4 me.I must sound emotional because the time elapsed has rendered my passport less than six months and Mr Brit I dont know what is in for me. Thank you Mr brit for your help and great advice
June 25, 2018 at 16:24
I don’t know what the outcome will be – although asking for a new medical is a good sign. Be patient.

hi Brit
thank you for your answer for the previous questions.
i have a question. i have completed the medical exam. but they said
nothing about vaccination. i asked them to vaccinate me but they told that
i don’t need any vaccination. the instructions say that we should be
vaccinated and bring the x-rays and present it to the custom officer
at the airport when we arrive at US airport. but they didn’t give me any
x-ray or vaccinated me. i am 50 years old. is the vaccine necessay.
should i be vaccinated?
God bless you
desalegn from Addis Ababa
June 19, 2018 at 18:15
If the physician didn’t need to administer vaccinations, you don’t need any. RELAX!
June 19, 2018 at 15:50
I just called us embasy Belgrade to ask about some documentation, and i said to them that our number is current for august, and they said “”YOU WILL PROBALY BE CALLED FOR INTERVIEW, BUT IT DEPEND OF HOW MANY VISAS WILL BE LEFT AT THAT MOMENT”.Is there a chance that you receive your 2NL, and on the day of interview they say “SORRY WE HAVE NO MORE VISAS LEFT FOR YOU”.And do we know how many visas left for EU region july-august-september??????
June 19, 2018 at 16:05
The easiest way to find out what documents you need is usually by visiting the embassy website. Everything is listed. There is always a chance of not getting a Visa. 2NL or not. Until you have your Visa stamped in your passport, take nothing for granted. I would even say, take nothing for granted until the CBP officer tells you “welcome to the US” after stamping your passport at the POE. As of June 17, there were already14571 visas issued for EU so there is a little less than 4000 visas to be distributed in the next 3 months in a half so there is of course a risk that they run out of visas before the end of the fiscal year, especially with the pace they’ve been issued during FY2018. But guess what?! WAIT AND SEE is and will forever be the best advice given during the DV lottery process! It’s been a rollercoaster and probably will he until September 30th! So good luck and hopefully everything will be fine! Patience is primordial
June 19, 2018 at 17:37
THANKS SF!
June 19, 2018 at 18:17
The visa is only safe once it is in your hands.
June 19, 2018 at 17:58
I’m wondering, if found ailing from a diseases, cancer for example might cause a refusal
June 19, 2018 at 18:21
No need to wonder – read the FAQ.
June 19, 2018 at 18:15
hey brit
my case is on AP and last week they called me and ordered me to send my passport and i did it….what is it mean?is they approved my visa
June 19, 2018 at 18:20
Think. Do they need your passport to refuse your case?
June 19, 2018 at 18:58

Hi Simon, my case nr is EU238xx and I was a drug addict and had a case as a user in Turkey, but it was 20 years ago and me and my criminal&police records for US are clear now as I mentioned also before… So another question is comming up: Do you recommend that I should have a drug test now, because I don’t want to get a delay after my interview?
June 19, 2018 at 20:40
It’s your choice. I’m not sure the physician would accept the drug test that you provide.
June 20, 2018 at 03:03
Thank you very much for your quick answer Simon.xxx

June 20, 2018 at 14:24
I have an article titled “does unlocking cause delays”. You ask too many lazy questions (well over 100). I am not your assistant. Learn to use the search and FAQ.
June 20, 2018 at 06:29
Dear Simon,
I think i have gotten enormous knowledge from your FAQs, Thank you for that.
I have a question on the work experience requirements:
My wife has a vocational education in Accounting and Finance( Ethiopian TVET Level 4 standards)
In principle as vocational education is not acceptable, my wife needs to present her work experience, which she has more than 5 years of experience in PURCHASING from a highly recognized construction company( “A” grade construction firm) in Ethiopia which also in line with what you described in O*Net database a clear match between what she is doing and a job in the list listed as” Purchasing Agent”-
So my questions are:
1. You have suggested in your blog a “professional looking file” and you also said ” The print out form of the job to which you are aligning your experience”- Which print out you mean? is it the one i got from O*net database?
2.Can we still attach the vocational educational documents( Level 4 Accounting and Finance course lists that she took) even if we are trying to use her work experience as the primary file for requirement 2?
3. here it comes the nasty question of me- From your experience can you say something about convincing the CO given her ample experience; and her perfect match between what she is doing and what is listed in the O*net job list?
I thank you very much

Thanks again for your answers.
actually what i want to say in my 3rd question is that, as long as there is a match between the job zone list and what she is doing, could you think the CO denies us?- still nasty question 🙂
Anyways, thanks for your unreserved effort
