Hi Brits,
I sent a mail of inquiry to kcc as to why I haven’t received the NLs considering that african went current against august interview and here is the reply I got from them;
1. your forms have been received and pending further embassy review for the continuation of your visa processing.
The also forwarded the following info;
2. >Africa current except egypt – 21,325
>Asia current except Nepal – 6,950
>Europe – 23,325
>Northern America – current
>Oceania – 1,400
>South America – 1,585
3. Im just from checking my status and here is what I saw
AT NVC
NB: PLEASE BRITS, I HAVENT UNDERSTOOD POINT 1, 2 AND 3 ABOVE.
Could you please help explain the meanining of the above points?
Thanks for your time and patience
July 9, 2018 at 20:49
at NVC means waiting to be scheduled.
Regarding the rest – read this:

Mr simon, I wrote KCC Few days back and included here with is her reply:
Thank you for your inquiry.
Your forms have been received and pending further embassy review for the continuation of your visa processing. Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing. Interviews for the DV 2018 program will begin in October 2017 and conclude on September 30, 2018. Please refer to the visa bulletin at http://www.travel.state.gov to locate the current numbers being processed. This bulletin is updated after the 15th day of each month. Once an interview date has been scheduled, you will receive notification via email to check http://www.dvlottery.state.gov.
Mr simon, is this a positive reply?
July 9, 2018 at 20:55
I am positive it is a reply, but other than that it doesn’t mean anything for sure. Patience.
July 9, 2018 at 21:06
Thanks veteran Simon! I will certainly wait and see through the exercise of patience.
July 9, 2018 at 21:05
Yes it is a logical reply that your case is at the consulate right now to be scheduled ,do contact the consulate they will tell you that is right .So the consulate is trying to set up a date for your interview then update KCC to arrange the 2NL.Good Luck .
July 9, 2018 at 21:44
I think you were trying to answer the question from “Anthony”. Your answer is not correct. Until KCC schedules the interview, the embassy doesn’t know anything about a case.
July 9, 2018 at 21:58
embassy review for the continuation of your visa processing means checking the interview date in the next batch provided the embassy availability so it is a positive reply without debate .all people on this Blog have been scheduled after their case is pending embassy review for the continuation of visa processing.
July 9, 2018 at 22:07
No, that is NOT correct.

Hi Brit,
In a case where you are a Freelancer and you have gotten contract from like three companies…
1. Do you have to list the three companies as your employers?
2. In the case where yo are still schooling and workin as a freelancer, what should you put as your primary occupation?
July 10, 2018 at 00:39
1. No – they are clients, not employers. As a freelancer you are typically self employed.
2. Sounds like you are a student who earns a bit of money doing freelance jobs in your spare time. BUT – you know what you do as your primary focus – so I’m not sure why you are asking me.
July 10, 2018 at 01:02
Thanks for the reply. I have been doing this freelancing Job for 3 years now and I have two years training on it and I have a diploma as well. Currently am in the university, In case I want to qualify with a work experience since I can’t fully relay on my high school grades,
1. Will formal letters from my clients help me?
2. My portfolio and the works I have done for my clients are online, is that enough evidence?
3. Since my clients are not my employers, should I answer “NO” to the question of “if I have other occupation”
4. If you are a freelancer on a job which is qualified for a DV, are you safe to list it as what you will do in the US?
July 10, 2018 at 01:16
1. Possibly. However, work experience is normally considered to be your FULL time occupation – producing a living wage.
2. No. You need to put some thought into how you prove your case. It doesn’t sound to me like your job is your FULL time occupation – so there is risk if your education doesn’t meet the requirements.
3. Use your best judgement.
4. You can answer anything that makes reasonable sense.
July 10, 2018 at 01:20
I just checked your earlier messages and note that you are from Ghana. Be advised that your chance of approval is LOW in Ghana, especially in cases such as yours where you seem to be “building” an “optimistic” case around a part time occupation. The COs at Accra have little patience for cases such as this. You really need to be honest with yourself about your chances of success versus the costs of lost fees for interview medical and so on.
July 10, 2018 at 02:03
You are right Simon,
1. so will you advise I don’t list my part time occupation?
Since 2015, am still offering my service to some of my client.
2. I was thinking when the embassy does a background check, they will know am saying the truth because the websites I developed for my clients are still active online and I have my contacts at the footer as the developer. Or it doesn’t matter?
July 10, 2018 at 04:12
1. List it – by all mans.
2. They really aren’t that keen to prove you have your name on some websites. Unless you show them (screenshots), they won’t check.

My husband won the DV 2018 and we filled in the DS 260 form and send it to KCC but haven’t receive a schedule date yet.
the submission was done in May do you think we will receive schedule letter this month?
July 10, 2018 at 11:51
I don’t know.
July 11, 2018 at 13:44
Hello sir.
DV case number 2018AF32…
I completed and submitted DS260 in September 2018 and received a comconfirmation but up to now my case is still at NVC and I have not received any appointments date. It’s like people with case numbers after my own have dates already.
Can this be a problem ?
Thanks

July 10, 2018 at 04:03
Hi All,
I am seeking some guidance from current winners regarding the SSN generation. On my DS-260 i selected to have a SSN generated upon entry.
I am taking an activation trip 14 Sept- 2 Oct.
My home state will be California.
Query-
To ensure the SSN is generated during my trip. Is the best thing to do-
Wait 3-5 days post entry, then
Go to SSN office in Oregon (where i will be for 6 days) & check.
Or
Do i have to check this in the State of my visa address ie California?
If anyone has some information regarding their experience i would appreciate your thoughts.
Cheers
Mike
July 10, 2018 at 04:10
Don’t do that. Just wait – and if you really have to, visit the SSA office after at least 10 days and perhaps they can provide your number.

Dear Brit,
I am working in Dubai as Java Developer(Senior level) with 8 years experience, shall I evaluate of my university certificates to work in USA or no need? in order to prepare my documents before arrive
July 10, 2018 at 05:09
You mean to find employment?? It’s normally not required.
July 10, 2018 at 05:13
what I mean is, my university degree is from Jordan, and to find employment does they ask for us equivalent certificate like I’ve to study some source in US university? or they checking the experience only?
July 10, 2018 at 05:21
I can’t give an accurate answer to such a question. It varies from job to job.
July 10, 2018 at 07:43

Hi Brit,
Thankyou for your Help.
I submitted DS 260 form a month ago. It shows completed under IV application. but at the right side upper corner it shows ” Your case is currently at KCC”. Is it normal showing case at KCC for 5/6 month until the 2nd letter is received.
July 10, 2018 at 11:50
Yes
July 10, 2018 at 11:36
hlo brit
When You Should Travel – You must arrive and apply for admission in the United States no later than the visa expiration date printed on your visa. A diversity visa is usually valid for up to six months from the date of issuance unless your medical examination expires sooner, which may make your visa valid for less than six months…. does it means that we have to travel by seeing the medical examination expiry date ,which will usually be around month before the interview date.
thnx in advance.

Hi Brit,
2019OC4XX. Sydney, Australia. I hope to move to NY in late February 2019 (nervous about change of Immigration Law so want to go asap).
My questions relate to proof of funds. I don’t know anyone in the US so no chance of support.
1. Do they care about debt? If I had the required $10k, but a $2k credit card debt, will this matter?
2. I plan to move to NY. As it is an expensive city would $10k still be seen as enough funds? (I will try to save more!)
July 10, 2018 at 13:24
1. No – although 10k isn’t a hard guide – they could expect more. Generally Sydney is relaxed about proof of finances – especially with a good work history.
2. In NY, 10k won’t last long.
July 10, 2018 at 23:47
Hi Madz,
I am 2019OC4xx too but need to postpone a bit until April due to work commitments.
I’d love to stay in touch and hear about your interview experience.
If you like please email me [email protected]
Thanks, Red

what security name check clearances mean and how mushe time it’s take ?
can check clearances take more than 6 month ?
July 10, 2018 at 15:54
Please read the FAQ about name checks. Yes, checks can take over 6 months in some countries where there are security concerns and/or the governments are not cooperative/organized.
July 10, 2018 at 16:38
Hi Mr. Britsimon
Thank you very much for your swift reply.
Long live for you.
July 10, 2018 at 17:04
Hello britsimon!
1) My sponsor has previously sponsored her wife( about 2-3 months ago). Are there any problems if he sponsors me?
2) for eg. My friend is going to sponsor me. He is a DV 2018 winner and hasn’t stayed even an year in US. That means he hasn’t got tax clearance file…what if the interviewer asks for I134, which requires tax file…can u give a solution to that?
Regards!!
July 10, 2018 at 17:07
1. Possibly.
2. No – he should not be your sponsor.
July 10, 2018 at 17:37
Hey Simon, Hope everything going well with you.
I know its not an urgent case, just trying to see if the logics of my process is still in its normal way. I’m in the process of AOS of dv2018, July quota, AS region, from A2 visa, NYC USCIS, after biometric (Jun 19th) and still haven’t received interview letter. I’m not stressed or something, just want to make sure I have nothing to worry about and the timing is still good.
Thanks!
July 10, 2018 at 18:25
There is still time before the end of the year.
July 10, 2018 at 18:35
Thank you!

Helo, for where or which source your brought DV2018 CEAC Data?is there any official website to these details?
July 11, 2018 at 03:29
CEAC is an official source giving case status, case by case. This site has numerous explanations of how we collect that official data. Please use the search feature if you want to know more.
July 11, 2018 at 01:17
Hi sir,
Sorry to disturb you again,
when I register for the interview in the embassy the form asks the priority date and case ID. Is it equal to interview date and case number ?
July 11, 2018 at 03:31
Case number is case ID. For PD use the 1st day of the month your number is current.
July 11, 2018 at 05:11
Thank you for your reply
My number was current from last 15th of June(as visa bulletin shows). I got the interview letter 25th of June. then Should I use the 1st of June as the PD? My Interview day is 7th of August.
July 11, 2018 at 05:42
1st AUGUST
July 11, 2018 at 05:48
thank you Sir.
July 11, 2018 at 08:24
Sorry Vihanga but what is PD?
July 11, 2018 at 05:02
Our sponsor income is good but they dont have bank balance and also have some loan due to family problem . recently they dont have bank balance. In this case Should we have to change our sponsor or not?
July 11, 2018 at 05:43
Income is more important than savings.
July 11, 2018 at 07:01
Hi Brit,
First of all I appreciate your kind efforts to provide such support for everybody.
I have a couple of question please,
First one: my daughter name in her passport consists 6 names Mariam Karim Ahmed Elsayed Mohamed Elgendy but when I was applying for the Lottery my wife put First name Mariam -middle name Karim- last name Elgendy Now in DS 260 I should put the name exactly as its written in her passport . the filed of given names is not enough can I put the last 2 names as written in her passport in the field of surnames?
Second question: My wife is the one who has been selected and now she is homemaker, for the question of : In which occupation do you intend to work in the us ? can she select homemaker?.
Last question: My wife has been to USA several times, as she was working as cabin attendant and she does not remember how many times she has been there and dates what she shall do?
thank you very much
July 11, 2018 at 14:58
1. Use your judgement and use the other names used field.
2. Yes
3. Remember as best she can.
July 12, 2018 at 06:03
Thank you very much, appreciated.
July 11, 2018 at 07:43
Good morning! Mr Simon.
And thank you once again for helping millions of people on this blog. I’ve another one question about my passport, it will expire on 21 January 2019 and going interview next month on the 8th.
what do you think I should do Mr Simon please kindly advise. thanks once again.
July 11, 2018 at 15:01
Renew the passport if possible before the interview – otherwise you will renew after interview and travel with both passports.
July 11, 2018 at 09:26
Hi SImon, for how long must be still valid the passport at the date of interview and/or at the date of the given Visa? Thanks very much. Kind regards, Fausto
July 11, 2018 at 15:02
Ask google.
July 11, 2018 at 11:42
Dear britsimon,
Hope you are well. Can I ask them in the US airport to change my address that I put in the Ds260?
I will work in Case University, so can I put the school address as my address to receive my green card because I can not find a apartment till now, so, may be I will be in a hotel my first days?
Thanks in advance
July 11, 2018 at 15:28
You can change the address, but the address should be a residential address and someone you can trust to receive the GC. If it gets delivered where you ask, but then gets lost, it will be expensive to replace.
July 12, 2018 at 00:47
Thank you so much for your prompt reply. Have a good night
July 11, 2018 at 11:43
Dear Brit,
My interview will be at the end of this month, my status now is Read on CEAC website, I checked today and found last updated date is July 11, do you have idea about what kind of update they did on the case?
July 11, 2018 at 15:28
No
July 11, 2018 at 12:37
Good day brit,my mother’s names and place of birth were completely uttered by my uncle who filled my ds260 while I was out in the village without Internet access and he instead put but my grand mum’s names and place of birth since she raised me up after my mum died while I was 1 month old till now but I have unlocked the form and corrected it my question is
1-is that a problem?
2-my birth certificate was made 2009 that is 9yrs b4 I even won the lottery ,does that attest enough to the fact that I’ve been using the information for long and not trying to change the info bcos I won the lottery
3- my national i.d card was made in 2013 using the same infos on the birth certificate ,should I go along with it on the date of my interview?
4 – since my mum is dead and will obviously not be joining me in the states,do they now see it as as a sign of genuineness bcos I chose to correct the error my uncle made on the form and hope it doesn’t jeopardize my granny’s chances of one day coming to the states
July 11, 2018 at 15:30
1. Possibly.
2. I don’t know.
3. Yes
4. I don’t know.
July 11, 2018 at 12:52
I graduated from college in 2015 but i have been unemployed since then ( it’s hard to get a job in my country especially in my field) I answered in DS260 “unemployed” honestly but a friend of mine told me that the CO may consider me as a public charge and they will put me on AP,Knowing that my country accept the “host” system and my DV qualification is education not work
btw my interview has been scheduled for august
July 11, 2018 at 15:31
They might have concerns. Not finding a job in three years is pretty concerning.
July 11, 2018 at 16:36
How Risky Is my situation ?! actually I worked as a waitress in a restaurant and some other part time jobs but I have nothing to prove this and I have already answered “unemployed” in my DS260 what should i do now ??!!
Please let me know if there is something I can do to avoid any unwanted resultes
Thank You Sir.
July 11, 2018 at 21:17
Make sure you have a good host (i.e. family or friend).
July 11, 2018 at 21:36
My host is a family member (my mom’s cousin),he is a US citizen and I have a good relationship with him but he is in vacation outside the US until Novembre so I wonder if that will affect my status??
July 11, 2018 at 22:52
I don’t know.

I’m sorry I forgot to say good morning
July 11, 2018 at 15:41
Hello Simon,
I’m a 2019 Selectee. I noticed from DS260 that, during the edv entry I interchanged my 6vyear old Daughter first name and middle name. Surname , date of birth are all inn order. Will this be a problem?
July 11, 2018 at 21:12
No, but unlock and correct the DS260.
July 11, 2018 at 21:32
Thank you Brits. I will do the needful…
July 12, 2018 at 08:31
Hello Brit, What I meant is, I interchanged the first and middle names when I was entering the EDV. So say xxx yyy instead of yyy xxx. Surname: www . I have entered the order as in passport on the DS260. From what you said above, It wont cause any issues at the interview? The girl is 6 yrs old.
July 12, 2018 at 15:05
No problem.
July 11, 2018 at 17:12
Hello, i want to ask a question please help me by answering me
My wife and i had a visa in 2014 mine expired in 2017 we had a child in usa and i applied in 2017 for 2 times when they know about my children although i submitted the hospital receipts and everything were paid by me, so in july 2nd i applied for 3rd time this time they never asked me about my children , they only asked me if am travellig alone , so for my surprise he gave me 221g slip stating that i must submit ds-5535
I emailed the embassy and submitted my form, today the embassy replied back in july/11 stating that my case is under ap,
My question is is 221g a refusal for visa
And the 2nd question from ur experience do u think i have a chance for getting a visa?
And do u think theyr doing ap to see if i paid my bills?
July 11, 2018 at 17:14
Gicen that till now my ceac show “no status” without any update taking only my ds-160 date as the case open date with no updates
July 11, 2018 at 21:19
You are not talking about a DV lottery visa. I only answer DV lottery questions.
July 12, 2018 at 05:36
Then clear it up , and say ask a question about dv lottery clear things!
July 12, 2018 at 15:08
Do you have the impression I am your employee???
July 12, 2018 at 21:10
???
July 11, 2018 at 17:49
Mrs. Brit, according to law you are allowed to play once in your name for your whole family dv lottery, and also your wife can play once for whole family as principa

hello BRIT i am a 2017 green card winner, i am married and my husband and my 2 children are beneficiary . i traveled to USA where im right now and i want my husband to join me . what procedure should i follow what should i do ? thank you dear ….
July 11, 2018 at 21:24
Normally you would have processed your beneficiaries through the DV application. Why did you not do that?
July 12, 2018 at 22:51
i just filled out my informations thinking that i could do the same for both my husband and my children once im stable financially to welcome them …… is it too late to do it now ?
July 12, 2018 at 23:05
i mean i filled out the ds 260 with only my informations not the infos of my husband and children there? is it still possible to go back and fill them or it´s too late now …..
July 13, 2018 at 00:14
But you must have listed your status as married, and listed your children in your DS260 – did you do that?
July 13, 2018 at 00:12
As long as they were listed ion the original DV entry, you could start a family based sponsorship process. I don’t advise on that process – but I know it takes around 2 years.
July 13, 2018 at 07:20
yes!! they are all listed in the original DV entry and yes my status there is married ….my question is just if i want my husband for the time being to join me, which process would you advise me to go on ? sorry if i was not clear enough during my first questions…….i don’t want to bring them all at the same time because it would be a little bit difficult for me … i have been advised to fill out the i340 form but i want your personnal advise first because it is not my first time here.
July 13, 2018 at 14:44
Like I said – I advise on DV only.
July 11, 2018 at 20:51

Hello Mr Brit,
I’ve reached the point where I have to enter the document delivery return address (the address where I’ll be receiving my passport after the interview)
I am a little bit confused, I’ve asked you once about a problem I had which was about my passport expiration date, I’ve told you that my passport was going expire soon but I filled and submitted the DS-260 with that passport info anyway and I renewed it later on, and my question was if I should update my DS-260 or bring both the new and old passports with me the day of the interview and you chose the second option.
The problem now is that I have to fill once again my passport info, but this time it’s for my registration for the document delivery return address. The terms and conditions on the websites made me question my next move, here are the two the terms that I’m most confused about:
”
1. The information you provide on this page will be used to allow you to track your documents and if necessary used to contact you in the future.
4. Make sure all personal information is correct. Discrepancies between the profile, passport information, and DS-160 information may require completion of a new profile and purchase of a new MRV fee receipt. MRV fees are not refundable nor transferrable after they are assigned to a particular applicant.
”
My questions is:
Shall I on this website provide the new or the old passport info?
Thank you so much for your help.

Dear Brit,
I very much appreciate the help you are giving to DV winners.
1. My wife’s family name is T and her other names BC. My family name is N. My wife’s marital name appears in my daughter’s birth certificate as NBC where N is my family name; and on her passport as T espouse NBC. Epouse here means ‘married to’. Which of the two marital names is appropriate for my daughter to fill as mother’s name on her d-260?
2. Secondly, one of our children under 21 years will not be immigrating with us when we do so under DV 2019, but will follow a couple of years later. Is is correct for us to say YES to the question ‘follow to join’?
3. Lastly, I understand that parents can also petition for children above 21 years (aged out of the DV) provided they are not yet married. Is it right to answer YES to the ‘follow to join’ question if we would like to bring such a child to the US later?
Thanks very much for your help.

1. You can decide.
2. Yes, but that child will need a separate process to get a GC. If the child turns 21 during that time you will wait YEARS. It would be wiser to get the GC now as part of the DV process and get a re-entry permit to cover up to 2 years absence.
3. Yes – but again – that takes **YEARS**

Thank you very much for your response brother! I guess you mean in (1) that it is OK to use either.
