Hallo Brit;
I have visited UK several times for a business trips for my previous company between 2012-2015 and the overall period I have stayed at UK 14 months approx. (4 months a year)
Do I need a police certificate from UK?
Should I mention that on my previous addresses?
I am not staying in UK and don’t have a valid visa anymore.
I used to stay during those visits in a hotel booked by my previous company
July 24, 2018 at 14:00
Technically you weren’t “living” in the UK. However, if it were my case I would get the police cert anyway.

From AFGHANISTAN
July 24, 2018 at 11:06
Hi Edris, I have got the same issue but applying in London. We had interview in December and since the case is in Administrative Processing. I think at the moment the hope is slim and especially for Afghanistan.
July 24, 2018 at 14:01
I have no idea.
July 24, 2018 at 11:03
Hello Brit,
I applied for DV from Georgia (it is listed in EU) but now reside in Egypt with my family, so I chose the interview location in the country of my current residency. According to the tables you provided here, my interview might take place sometime in January/February in Georgia. However, I am not sure how it works when you change the location of interview – does it put you to the top or the bottom of the list or it may occur on time?
July 24, 2018 at 14:03
Your case is scheduled by your case number region, not by your place of interview.
July 24, 2018 at 12:02
Dear Brit,
My DV interview on Thursday. During my medical examination, I was found to suffer from syphilis. I undergo treatment for 3 weeks with 2.4 million units benzathine penicillin.
I am completed the treatment and submitted the seal medical report to the USA embassy.
I am really worried about my coming interview, do you think I should proceed with the interview?
What are my chances of getting my DV visa approved based on my medical condition.
Please help
July 24, 2018 at 14:10
I am not a doctor. I don’t know whether your treatment means you are cured or not. Contact the embassy.
July 25, 2018 at 07:44
Dear Simon;
Allow me to add something(personal) may be it will be helpfull.
I had the same situation(treatment for 3 weeks) my interview is in August and my doctor said to me” Do not worry about it; it is a curable desease”. I think it will be the appreciation of a doctor and what he/she report on the applicant medical form. Apart from that(correct me if I am wrong) I saw on the medical ground denials that “Class B” conditions are not one of them. According to the document; “Class B” condition is when you had/have a cured “desease” i.e you had syphillis or TB but it has been treated and cured
July 24, 2018 at 12:14
https://www.uscis.gov/news/news-releases/uscis-updates-policy-guidance-certain-requests-evidence-and-notices-intent-deny
What that means ???
July 24, 2018 at 14:15
It should not affect DV consular processing, but it means people that don’t submit the required documentation could be immediately denied rather than being given an opportunity to provide additional evidence. People should take note though and make sure they have prepared well.
July 24, 2018 at 12:16
Greetings All, regarding medical exam, i expected individual to do his or her medical check first from any hospital and get him/herself treated (if any contamination),while still expecting your 2NL letter, this will actaully help ..

I don’t know what tests IOM perform.
July 24, 2018 at 15:41
Hi Simon,
Thank you for all the help along the way! We got selected for DV2018/ Asia Region. We passed the interview this month. My husband and I have already got the green card and in the US now. The interview was very simple and quick. I feel the most important thing for the interview is to prepare all the documents they need.
July 24, 2018 at 16:27
Welcome to the USA

July 24, 2018 at 16:00
Hi Ginger, which country in Asia are you? how long does it take to to get your visa stamped after the CO Approved.. morealso can you share your interview at the embassy .. Happy for you and your family
July 24, 2018 at 16:27
For AF 2019, 38.000 are selected, but the case number is up to 45,000. Does that mean that it was selected around 45,000, but that the rest was disqualified for various things such as double-entry inappropriate images, so that the number of people selected was dropped to 38,000, and then between these numbers are the holes between the numbers?
July 24, 2018 at 16:30
There is a full explanation here:
https://britsimonsays.com/dv2019-basic-questions/
July 24, 2018 at 18:12
I read, but I understood that each selected has its own number as derivatives .. but I didn’t understand why the number of case numbers is higher than the number of selected.
July 24, 2018 at 18:56
You have missed the explanation of “holes theory”

July 24, 2018 at 18:25
Hello britsimon!
I have some queries:
I. My sponsor hasn’t written what work he does and his position. Is there any problem with that?
II. Do they usually ask about sponsor’s job details in the interview?
III. How come they approve some applicants directly at the interview and ask for further documents ( i134) to others. How do they know if the sponsor is eligible or not?
July 24, 2018 at 19:43
1. He/she should answer all the questions.
2. I don’t know.
3. Public charge is reviewed case by case. Read the FAQ.
July 24, 2018 at 18:56
Hello Brit how are you, itβs very kind of you helping us volunteery and thanks for your time. My question is all about prerequisites required to take underage child to USA. My aunt is living in USA and she wants to take her mentally ill child to USA. I hope you might tell us some possibilities thanks again Brit.
July 24, 2018 at 19:42
I only answer DV lottery questions.
July 24, 2018 at 20:07
Hi Brit, First, I want to thank you so much! You donβt know how much I am appreciate you.
Iβm already got the Visa. The visa is valid until November, but in the embassy told me that I have to move until September.
Is it true? I want to move in October.
Thank you soo much!!
July 24, 2018 at 23:42
Normally you can move anytime before the visa expiry – so their answer is probably incorrect, unless there is some special reason.
July 25, 2018 at 05:46
Or maybe his medical examination will be ended in September
July 25, 2018 at 05:56
No. The expiry date of the bisa is set by the medical expiry (6 months).
July 24, 2018 at 21:10
Hi brit due to some cicumstances i am planning to go US in oct will there be any issue if i apply for green card from US in october,my second question is will our green card is permanent green card or conditional finally after how long we have to stay there for citizenship thxxx.
July 24, 2018 at 23:43
1. No problem as long as the visa is not expired.
2. Unconditional
3. 5 years
July 25, 2018 at 03:16
Hi Brit, I received my DV this year. I’ve read through the FAQ section on your site regarding entry timelines; you say that returning within 12 months of activating the green card is acceptable, but I’ve been using an immigration lawyer in the US to assist with the process and they’ve recently said that while re-entry within 12 months was common practice under the previous Administration, it’s no longer the case under the current one and it’s recommended that I return before the 180-day excursion period expires.
I’m just wondering if you’ve heard of anyone having trouble (since President Trump took over) when trying to re-enter the U.S. after an initial absence of more than six months, but less than 12?
Thanks for your input π
July 25, 2018 at 05:53
No. Nothing officially changed, but some racists think they are enabled by our moron in chief.
July 26, 2018 at 14:13
Hell, it isnβt even just a race issue. My husband and I are white, English-speaking Canadians, and we caught a lot of flak when we did our activation trip (land border, just crossed for dinner and back) as DV, presumably because the Republican Party has really been running the DV program through the mud. To say we didnβt feel welcomed would be a huge understatement. It was pretty sad.
July 26, 2018 at 14:32
Jeez. THat sucks.

July 26, 2018 at 01:20
Do I really need to say everything twice?
July 26, 2018 at 03:29
I donβt know sometimes how u have the patience for some of these questions ! They can be exasperating!! ?
July 26, 2018 at 22:22
Nora dont be nut ,,, lots of people are new into this and brit get idea and understanding of it , that’s more reason why he set up this plaform to assist in correcting every mistakes …
July 27, 2018 at 01:47
Yes – I am fully aware of that – I am myself new to this site – but you have to admit there are some that really donβt pay attention or read the FAQ which makes more work for him – and then ask the same thing again and again. He does a great work considering this – thatβs why I said it must be sometimes exasperating dealing with some of the people and questions. Give the guy a break!
July 27, 2018 at 01:52
You were correct. It is exasperating sometimes.
July 27, 2018 at 01:58
Its always a matter of imagining yourself in the other personβs shoes and dealing with what they deal with. I couldnβt do it for sure…I donβt have the patience …, certainly doing it as a complimentary service …my hatβs off to you!β
Nora
July 27, 2018 at 02:09
Dear Nora, I absolutely agree with you! All I can think of is that Simon is a better and more patient person than I could ever be! It’s not even about being new to this, it’s about laziness and taking for granted his hard work. To he honest, 90% is in the FAQ, the 10% has been answered more than once.
This blog is the perfect illustration of “give them a hand, they’ll take the whole arm”
Bless you BritSimon. I have headaches for you!
July 27, 2018 at 02:34
You reasoning and understanding is quit different from others, kindly remember dv winners are not selected via specialist or professionals, more also some are from not english speaking countries and some dont understand english like you do.. people can read english but seems not to understand the meaning of what they are reading. .. everyone here gives simon a cudo and always appreciate his patient. so if you are not simon you cant be simon .. please try and understand other people too who cant express there self only to ask simon to guide them…
July 27, 2018 at 03:17
AMEN!!! Yes – you are so right! Not only that – but unfortunately a lot of people donβt have good English and I donβt know sometimes how he even understands the questions … but…. heβs gracious enough to answer all the questions anyway – even if its just directing them to FAQ. I donβt think he gets enough credit. I know there are some who are truly grateful for his work, and say it, but just not enough.
July 26, 2018 at 02:31
I have just recive 2nl eu252** when i should go to interview

Are you serious?
July 26, 2018 at 05:14
Morning Mr Brit
My questions are

All dis questions is because he de only one who is ready to help me with the affidavits
Thanks for ur help and have a lovely day..
July 26, 2018 at 05:45
1 & 2. Possibly. Ideally get someone else since that person cannot commit to permanent support.
July 26, 2018 at 08:08
Thanks for de advice and my interview is next month africa

July 26, 2018 at 12:54
Hi brit, I am from Nepal. I have already got the I-134 form from my sponsor. Do I need to ask for the welcome letter as well or only I-134 form will be enough for the interview?
Thank you in advance.
July 26, 2018 at 14:30
Most people use a welcome letter in Nepal. So – if you can get that – do so.
July 26, 2018 at 13:53
Hello again BritSimon,
I received an email from the embassy with an attachment to fill out and email back called DS-2001.
Am I just supposed to print it, scan the printed filled out page and send it back as an attachment? How did you submit your DS-2001?
July 26, 2018 at 14:05
sorry I should also add that I was asked to also submit the supporting documents along with the DS-2001
July 26, 2018 at 14:32
Use your imagination.
July 26, 2018 at 14:31
Their instructions give the answer – “fill out and email back”
July 26, 2018 at 14:34
oh no sorry I got that wrong, they wrote “then return to this office” but I guess that must be it.
July 26, 2018 at 15:35
Could someone who got G4 visa of USA sponsor for DV winner?
July 26, 2018 at 17:01
No
July 26, 2018 at 17:07
We entered G4 visa holder as a sponsor in ds260 form. How can we change our sponsor? Can we change it ln interview?
July 26, 2018 at 17:19
OK – the address you listed in the DS260 isn’t a sponsor as such – just the address. So – you can leave that as is. If however you are providing a sponsor with an I-134, then that should be another person.
July 27, 2018 at 15:40
That mean the address we mention in ds260 will not effect our visa interview and we can give details of our net sponsor with WC and i134 in interview. Am I right?
July 27, 2018 at 15:54
Yes
July 26, 2018 at 16:38
Hello I am from Venezuela and I was selected for the DV2018. I am applying for adjustment of status in the US. However, I had an H1B but lost it because the company closed and laid me off but before I lost my H1b status I applied for asylum which is still pending. According to the INA section 245 I could still adjust status even though I lost my status on the grounds that I lost my status through no fault of my own. How do I demonstrate that to USCIS in my documentation package.
Thanks!
July 26, 2018 at 16:59
I don’t know. I’m struggling to understand why you haven’t filed already. You have wasted time – which is a bad idea for AOS cases.
Anyway, a good source of DV AOS info is here: https://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2018-aos-only.336256/
July 26, 2018 at 17:51
My number just recently came up on the August visa bulletin and it is for the September cutoff. An attorney told me that not currently having a status could be an issue for AOS. I just wanted to be sure what I had to do and avoid mistakes.
July 26, 2018 at 17:56
You could have filed as soon as the August VB was published – so you already lost 2 weeks. That was one mistake. Your lawyer probably doesn’t even know about early filing. Speaking to a lawyer about DV was also a mistake.
Use the link I gave you and get a move on, your case will expire on September 30th, 2018.
July 26, 2018 at 17:26

Hi Brit!
My spouse is primary aplicant. Once we get green cards (I hope…) Is there any diffrience if we enter usa seperatly?(I mean I enter first?) Or we have to enter usa together? Would it create any questions from the officer in POE?
July 26, 2018 at 19:18
The winner has to enter first, or with, the derivatives.
July 26, 2018 at 19:57
Hi Simon,
Could you give your perspective on these 2 questions:
1. How quickly – if all goes well – can one start working upon arrival to the US? Immediately upon entering the US (before receiving the green card in the mail) or does one need to wait 3-4 months to have the physical green card on hand in order to start working in the US?
2. My # is EU……19**** so hope to get interview in late spring 2019. I may need to change the location. Your site gives instructions, which is great, but in your opinion, does it have ANY negative consequences if you request change of location after submitting DS260, but before receiving appointment? Don’t want to cause any issues whatsoever but trying to avoid flying to a different continent as my circumstances/location have changed.
July 26, 2018 at 20:03
1. Pretty much immediately. You don’t wait for the GC, but you might have to wait for the SSN (about 2 – 3 weeks).
2. The interview is based on your home address. So – changing location means you have changed address. Before you are scheduled, that is easy and has no ill effects. After you are scheduled, it’s complicated and somewhat risky.
July 27, 2018 at 01:23
Hi Mr Simon Iβm a dv winner and left for good from Kuwait since 2012 do I have to bring criminal record from Kuwait?
Thank u for help
July 27, 2018 at 01:42
Possibly. Read the rules and reciprocity page.
July 27, 2018 at 02:09
Thank u
July 27, 2018 at 05:19
Hi Brit ,
If dv lottery visa is undergoing processing AP is visa approved ,count for or is it in between. My sister she still under this AP for 9 months period.
July 27, 2018 at 14:04
AP is not approved.
July 27, 2018 at 05:34
Hi Brit,
My wife won dv2019. We living in China and planing to interview Amrican embassy in Guangzhou.
I have been here ( china) for the last five years for educational purposes. When I came to here for first time I was over stayed 18 days without renewing my visa because of lack of information at that time. Chinese immigration office asked me to paid some money for penalty and let me to attend my program. Now, after five years i applied for non criminal record but they refused to give me due to over stayed case. I don’t know what to do…I need your help.
Thank you for your time.
July 27, 2018 at 14:09
I don’t know. The reciprocity page suggests they WILL issue a non criminal record for people with ONLY 1 or 2 criminal charges. So – it seems you aren’t saying the whole story. Either way – I don’t know what you can do.

Hi Simon ..
I has two questions regarding my reqired documents:
1: first I couldn’t get my High school diploma due to damge of old documents in my school BUt I am a physician and I have Bachelor degree and also Board certificate Degree in speciality .. is my bachelor or my Board degree enough for required documents instead of High school diploma?
2- I received an email from Baghdad Embassy explaining all what I have to do witj check list BUT they they didn’t mention the medical exam as part of requirements in thier email , is there change in policy regarding Medical exam ( after interview ?!?) or they missed it and I have to do it ?
Thank
July 27, 2018 at 14:10
1. Your job is obviously acceptable, so take the education documents you have and then be prepared to prove your work experience as a backup plan.
2. You have to do it. They probably expect people to have read the instructions on their website.
July 27, 2018 at 09:05
Hi! Sorry for the question probably asked already, but I can’t find it answered. I still have reservations about DS-260, interview, and address in the US if one doesn’t have any relatives there. Unfortunately, the “completing DS-260” FAQ doesn’t mention this case π
In my DS-260 I wrote, “will be provided at interview time.” IIRC, there used to be a checkbox that had allowed to skip that field, but not in last years.
At interview time I plan to tell that I intend to fly somewhere near Seattle, WA. However, given that one’s officially explicitly discouraged to buy tickets or rent housing before a visa is issued I don’t yet have an exact address, but plan to find and book somewhere there to stay for 1-2 months as soon as my case’s approved, then research longer-term accommodation options.
Assuming the interview goes well, I know that I can update my address on entry and that I’ll be required to notify USCIS whenever I move. And I have an address in the US where GC can be mailed to. That is all fine. What I’m still worried about is not having the exact address at the time of interview. I think I’ve heard of other people doing this but, you know, I’m really nervous, verifying and re-verifying every single thing required. π
Please reassure me I don’t have to hurry and search for something cancellable right now (my case’s scheduled for this September), and it’s okay to tell about not having the exact address at the interview. π
Thanks a lot!

You need to provide an address of someone that can receive the GC for you. Do that.

Thanks. Yes, I already have a mailing address for the Green Card.
My only concern is that I won’t have permanent housing address. DS-260 has two US addresses: 1) permanent address (where one intends to live) and 2) GC mailing address (can be not typed manually by setting “is this address where you want your Permanent Residence Card mailed” to “yes”).
I have the second, but not the first. I suppose most don’t but still… I’m just nervous about literally everything π

Dear Brit,
Firstly, many thanks for all your guidance and support along the way. I attended the DV interview and the visa is issued status now. I am awaiting the stamp of my passport via courier as what the Embassy told me.
Can you please advise me on the below questions?
1. Can I enter USA with the Visa stamp on my passport and process my green card and exit USA before getting my green card?
2. Means to say I land in the USA to activate my visa and process the green card.
3. The reason for me asking these questions, I have to settle and wrap up all my things in the current country I am residing before moving to USA. These will take a few months and I donβt want my medical to expire before I enter.
Many Thanks

Hi brit, my sister was a dv2018 winner now she went to usa but at the airport in usa the Officer didnt ask for 220$ as a service . What my sister should do now?
July 27, 2018 at 14:19
When she got the visa she was given instructions on how to pay the $220. The payment is online. She should follow the instructions.

Hello Simon!
2019EU93**
I won the lottery for 2019 and expected my interview to be in the beginning of next year and I was preparing for that as everything on your website is very clear about the process ahead.
However, I recently learned that my company wants to move me to the US sooner than that (probably with an E visa).
My question is, if I do get on US soil for my company (in the next 2 to 3 months), should I then switch to AOS or stay on the consular path?
My main concern is that I would lose the privilege of having a ‘reserved’ visa and that it would lengthen the process significantly.

You have to make that decision for yourself. You have some things to consider such as “is it possible” to adjust status from the type of visa you would get. Also depending on the date of entry and the visa you may not be able to immediately adjust status because of immigrant intent. Whilst E-2 visas are “dual intent” visas, I’m not sure what visa you are planning to obtain.
Bottom line – be very careful.
The best resource for DV AOS is at the link below including a comparison of AOS vs CP.
