Dear Brit,
I was denied a U.S. visa about 10 years ago. My father’s name at the time was XYZ, however, he made changes to his name 7 years ago to ABC. The current name appears on my marriage certificate, my birth certificate etc.
Would this change of name of my FATHER affects my case in Accra? I am a 2019 selectee.
Thanks
August 11, 2018 at 14:23
No
August 11, 2018 at 14:32
Good day BritSimon.
Do you know if traveling to the States for job reasons (I mean my actual job in Italy) with Esta, can cause disqualification from green card process? Should I refuse to travel ? Thank you very much for your precious support.
August 11, 2018 at 14:47
No problem.

Hi Mr Simon. I worked in Kuwait as a live in house maid for two years. I only went out with the family I worked for. They had possession of all my documents including the ID they made for me. Please I wish to know if I need a police clearance from Kuwait cos this is really going to be hard for me to get . I finished my contract there as a maid but am no longer there . Pls help.
August 12, 2018 at 00:00
If you had bothered to read the instructions you would have read the reciprocity page that explains non resident are not expected to produce police certs for Kuwait.

Hi Simon,
My family is DV2017 winners. We were issued visas before our first son was born. When he was born,my husband who is the principal winner travelled so the baby wasn’t added. Is possible to travel with the baby to the US and file for him there?
August 12, 2018 at 00:09

August 12, 2018 at 00:59
Hi Simon, thank you for your answers through this useful link.I am not sure if our situation fits in the scenarios because when my husband(principal applicant) left without the baby being added,I had to leave the baby to activate my status since my visa was near expiry and we were not sure what to do.This means my initial entry happened without the baby. I had to rush back home to continue nursing him since he was just four months. He is 8 months now and I need to join my husband.Do we qualify for scenario 4?
August 12, 2018 at 03:45
No. You have made the process complicated. You had better ask the embassy if they can help, otherwise I believe you will have to sponsor the baby, which could take 2 years.
August 12, 2018 at 05:43
Thank you,Simon.
August 11, 2018 at 21:40
Hi i already gave my dv visa interview on july 2 but my visa is not approved. I submitted i 134,tax paper, sponsorship letter, bank balance certificate,n the letter of notarized of welcome.since the embassy is asking about the relatioship letter from my sponsor .but my sponsor is my friend how the letter should be written from my sponsor .will you please me suggest about the format of relationship letter written from my sponsor.
August 12, 2018 at 00:10
Your sponsor should write a letter. There is no need to follow a format – anyone should be able to write that!
August 11, 2018 at 23:14
hi Brit, I was asked for the I134 form, it was filled out by my uncle in the United States, with it he requested the documents that endorse it as: the tax declaration of the year 2017 and other forms, read about the minimum amount of income that the sponsor must have and given our case that we are 3 should have at least 25 thousand USD a year, but it happens that for your 2017 statement, which is information for 2016 and for that date had another job that did not favor you and did not reach the minimum amount in his statement, but 9 months ago he is working in another company where he exceeds by far the minimum limit requested, the case is that he declares it in his tax declaration of the year 2018 that closes in September, and I must provide it next week , is it possible that they deny it to me by everything raised above ???? I await your comments
Thank you so much
August 12, 2018 at 00:21
Yes it is possible to be refused, based on what you have said. A different sponsor would be better.
August 13, 2018 at 15:41
Thanks for your answer, one more question, I have a possible proposal to work in the EEUU, do you think I should show it? That would benefit me??
August 13, 2018 at 16:12
Only if it is certain.
August 12, 2018 at 03:09
HELLO! I am from Nepal and my case number is 2019AS4** . As VB was already published i tried to check my status on CEAC website but as i entered my case number it said invalid case number. Why is it so? What can be the reason?
August 12, 2018 at 03:46
2019 cases are not checkable in CEAC yet – and won’t be until January.
August 12, 2018 at 04:16
Greetings, how long medical is valid?
August 12, 2018 at 05:05
The VISA will have an expiry date based on the medical date plus 6 months – so don’t get the medical too early.
August 12, 2018 at 15:26
Hello asmika. I am also from Nepal and case no. 2019AS5××. Couldyou plz give me your mail id so that we can discuss about further process.
August 13, 2018 at 05:42

August 12, 2018 at 05:27

August 12, 2018 at 13:54
Not a problem.
August 12, 2018 at 06:09
am from nepal,i had been selected on edv 2019 i had mistakely select the wrong country initially as nauru but my country of birth is nepal
so my case no. is of ocean country. so i had inform this to KCC through mail to them they had told that they will include my issue and told me to fill out the d-260 form with correct information so what is the possibilty of coming 2nd letter.
August 12, 2018 at 13:55
You will get the second letter – BUT it is certain that you will be disqualified at the interview. 100% certain. So – don’t waste your time and money.
August 12, 2018 at 06:44
Hello Simon, could you send me your email address if you don’t mind there is a question i would like to ask you. Thanks

August 12, 2018 at 12:17
Hi ,can i travel to USA and adjust status now for DV 2018 ,my case was current but not it is above the cut of number for AF now ?can this work?
August 12, 2018 at 14:02
No.
August 12, 2018 at 12:57
Hi Brit… The question on ds260 regarding being worked for or contributed to charitable organization was answered NO by me, but looking through it again I remember working for IPA Innovation for Poverty Action which is defined as nonprofit organization but I have already submitted my ds260. I answered NO because all staff were fully paid including we the contract staff Enumerators. Should I worry much about it?
August 12, 2018 at 14:03
No
August 12, 2018 at 13:48
Hi
please I just wanted to find out if someone doesn’t have any relatives in the US, and he goes for the interview, will such a person be accepted and given the visa?
August 12, 2018 at 14:06
Yes, if requirements are met.
August 13, 2018 at 06:44
Thanks so much Britsimon. I intend playing the US 2020 lottery but I wasn’t sure if I would have been accepted considering the fact that I intend staying on my own when I get there. But I do have a friend who lives in Maryland already with his parents and the two of us are very close and I know that if I plead with him to help me talk to his parents if they would accommodate me, they would. But I don’t want to live in Maryland or let me just say I don’t want to take any chances of thinking whether his parents would agree to accommodate me or not. And that’s why I decided to verify from you if it’s possible that I would be accepted.
Thanks so Much Brit…. for clearing my doubt.
August 13, 2018 at 15:12
It’s a lottery where your chance of winning is once in 200 years. Enter. If you win – there is time to think about it then.
August 13, 2018 at 20:51
Hello brit..
please I have this one last thing to ask you and that is,you know as a young man, when I get to win the 2020 dvlottery, I may become so excited that I may just be too eager to rush the process of making my passport and going for the interview so much so that I might even make a mistake that may caused my denial of the visa. so please sir, as an experienced person, would you please advise me on how I should go about things after I must have won the lottery.
THANKING YOU IN ADVANCE.
August 14, 2018 at 04:11
This is a LOTTERY with a 1 in 200 year chance of selection. So – don’t waste your time or mine with questions.
August 12, 2018 at 14:12
Dear Simon;
Does one have to wait his/her case to turn into “issued” before going to collect his/her passport?
I am asking this because mine was successfully and I was given a date to come and collect my passport(tomorrow: monday 13/08) and till now my case is still showing “ready”.
In order to save time and money(my embassy is a little bit far from my workplace; do I have to present myself at the embassy even though my case still show ready or do I have to wait until it turned to “issued”?
Thanks for your time.
August 12, 2018 at 14:24
You might get there and find it is not ready. So – you can go there, or you might decide to wait a few more days. It’s up to you.
August 12, 2018 at 14:51
It is not ready because I have to do something else about it? Or it is just their internal procedures?(I know you might not know it but I have to ask. You are experienced in dv matters and I respect you so much for that).
I once saw here that it may be an update issue too; right? So to be sure I think I have to report myself as requested. What do you think?
August 12, 2018 at 15:26
I don’t know whether there is a delay, or why.
As I said – whether to travel or wait is your choice.
August 12, 2018 at 14:31
Hello brit does it mean i,my wife and son do we take 3 forms of affidavit of support or 1form which has our information?
August 12, 2018 at 15:28
One form!
August 12, 2018 at 15:05
Good day Mr BritSimon.
My wife had a previous fiance visa but she didn’t get married re-entering her country with respect of time limits. Can this be a problem? One last question, does the k1 visa have an alien number? We answered no on ds260.
Thank you so much.
August 12, 2018 at 15:24
No problem. I don’t know whether K1 has an alien number or not.
August 12, 2018 at 15:27
Thanks again, I appreciate
August 12, 2018 at 16:08
hi bit my interview is on August 14th & my medical result will only be available by the 16th. Can this cause a denial?
August 12, 2018 at 17:03
It can cause delay, not an immediate denial.
August 12, 2018 at 16:12
Hello Mr Brit,
I passed the interview and I will be getting my visa in a week. Also, I’m planning on getting married on September 1st. But, I’ve heard that I may encounter some problems on the airport since I won’t be single anymore (I’ve decided to go to the US on October 1st, a month after my marriage).
Is that true? Will I have to reach out to the US embassy to update my status before going to the USA ?
Thank you for your time.
August 12, 2018 at 17:02
It won’t come up at the airport.
August 12, 2018 at 21:06
And if I get asked at the airport whether I’m single or married ?
August 12, 2018 at 23:10
You tell the truth.
August 12, 2018 at 17:21
Hi Simon,
In regards to police certificates, if I was residing in a country for about 5 months and two weeks (i.e. just under 6 months). Am I required to get a police certificate from that country?
Thank you in advance,
August 12, 2018 at 19:11
Generally not, but the CO might ask for that, or might not.
August 12, 2018 at 21:21
Even if the embassy specific instructions say 6 months in particular?
If they ask and try to push, should I push back showing the embassy specific instructions?
Thank you
August 12, 2018 at 23:09
No. You do exactly as the CO tells you.
August 12, 2018 at 23:34
Hello brit,
I have 4 short questions
1.Can an approved case turned into a long AP or refused?
2.What may be the reason of delay of an approved case?(just enumerate some as you have a lot of experience on this dv stuff)
3.Is it possible that an issued case still showing “ready” on ceac website?
4.Can a case be issued on embassy side and updated on ceac website at the same day ?
Hope tp hear from you soon, I am thanking you for your time and consideration.
Regards,
Dabo
August 12, 2018 at 23:40
1. Yes – sometimes people assume they are approved at the interview, but the case then turns to AP – and perhaps refused.
2. Many reasons.
3.Technically possible if the embassy does not update CEAC.
4. Yes.
August 13, 2018 at 06:14
Hi brit I have a question when we edited the information after we’ve unlocked I wonder if the old information was still remained in the system of kcc? Sincerely appreciate your response.
August 13, 2018 at 15:11
Yes
August 13, 2018 at 06:50

Read the FAQ about getting married.
August 13, 2018 at 09:30
Hi Brit,
Is there any reason (any possibility) if the visa has issued as per CEAC to get back to AP?
August 13, 2018 at 15:16
I don’t think so.
August 13, 2018 at 09:50
Good morning Brit,
Thanks for the helps. My questions are as follow: my brother is a beneficiary to his fiancé, does he need his high school’s documents? If yes, no problem, he have them. But the question is he attended refugee school in the Ivory Coast and graduated. His worry is will he also get his police certificate from the Ivory Coast or will it be Liberia. He left the Ivory coast since 1995. Thanks
August 13, 2018 at 15:18
Derivatives don’t show education documents. The instructions make that clear, so your family should read the instructions!!
August 13, 2018 at 11:17

3. Read the FAQ.
August 13, 2018 at 12:40

Hi Mr. Simon,
Since 20 July I can’t access to my ds260 form because of the technical maintenance. I emailed KCC and they says: the maintenance is ongoing. My question: Is it normal to take all this time ? Thank you
August 13, 2018 at 17:29
Well it is normal this time.
August 13, 2018 at 16:59
Hi Britsimon, firstly I wanted to say thank you, I have read as much stuff of yours as I can and you provide a phenomenal amount of amazing information. That is much appreciated. Although I haven’t been able to find what I am looking for, that being, I am a DV2019 selectee (2019OC000003XX) I am currently in the US on a B1 visa and was when I was selected. Do you know if I am eligible to apply via AOS whilst here on my B1 visa??
Really appreciate your time.
August 13, 2018 at 17:27
Basically no. First, it will be months until your number is ready, so you would run out of time on valid status on your B1. Don’t try it.
August 13, 2018 at 18:05
Apart from that(correct me if I am wrong) I saw on the medical ground denials that “Class B” conditions are not one of them. According to the document; “Class B” condition is when you had/have a cured “desease” i.e you had syphillis or TB but it has been treated and cured. Can you gives more light on this.
Also, when the doctor say u have been treated from the above and mark it treated, can it still cause refusal?
Thabk you.
August 14, 2018 at 04:05
“Treated” is OK.
August 13, 2018 at 19:04
Dear Simon,
We will be leaving for the US in two days with our immigration visa for the first time, and will be back to our own country in ten days. My question is if it is ok to request the actual green cards mailed to my friend’s address in the US and then ask my friend to mail the cards to us through Fedex? Thank you very much for time and help.
August 13, 2018 at 21:05
We have the same question,too.Thanks.

August 13, 2018 at 21:51
Dear Simon,
I had interview and all went well and the CO gave me a green paper and asked me to come and collect my passport tomorrow.(14/08/2018)
My question/worry is that from the day 1 of interview up to today my case was “last update : day of interview: ready”; then today there is also an update but the status is still showing “ready”.
1. Tomorrow I will have to report myself to the embassy as required, do I have to bring my documents?(the ones I brought on day one in case of second interview)
2.Will there be another interview?
3.How can a case be updated from “ready” to “ready”?
4.What does a “ready update” means in this dv process?
Thank you for your time and consideration
August 14, 2018 at 04:13
1. No
2. No
3. Easy.
4. Nothing.
August 13, 2018 at 22:44

Dear sir, am the winner of DV 2018, my family and I conducted the medicals but my wife was asked to give the sputum after the xray meaning to verify if she has TB or not, this examination will be out only in two months.
Question; can the visas be granted to me and children while my wife a wait the results of the sputum,
And if negative can her visa be confirmed, thanks in advanced.
August 14, 2018 at 04:17
Yes. But if she is not ready by September 30, she cannot be confirmed.
August 14, 2018 at 06:33
Mr britsimon, judging from other people’s questions and your replies to them, I seem to be the only one you have replied rudely to. And that is really making me sad. Because the reason you created this platform is for people to ask you questions so you can clear their doubts which you are doing you best to and we all appreciate you for that. But when you start replying to people rudely, it’s really going to make people sad. Because the reason for this platform is to ask whatever questions that bothers you concerning the lottery.
But anyways sir, I thank you so much for the time you took to reply to my questions, although my last question was met with a rude and annoying answer. But all thesame thank you sir.
My DOUBTS are cleared.
August 14, 2018 at 07:56
lol mad lad, may be your question was too dumb or answered a lot already, because me i am a daily reader of this blog, and i still see a lot of dumb questions and really stupid, even me who is a only reader get annoyed so much. just imagine My Sir Brit got a lot of spams on this blog and most of them are stupid questions, i would also get mad bru. Mr brit doing his best, he put a lot of effort helping people on this blog, most importantly is his TIME. i dont think his daily job is to answering people in this blog, and look at you, after you got answered you will go to dissapear i believe.
August 14, 2018 at 14:52
Wow. If someone being straightforward in the way they talk to you makes you “sad”, you need to toughen up.
August 14, 2018 at 06:43
Hello Mr. Brit,
For about 1 year, you have answered all of my questions with a big patience and shared lots of information.
I have completed the process with success and just want to say thank you for your great support and for your great web site.
Thanks for everything,

I haven’t got the form here. The form is simple, so the sponsor should be able to complete it.

Billing address is the address where the credit card owner lives.
THe online system shows the status.

Hello Simon,
My visa category is CR1 (spouse visa) . My case has been completed and ready for an interview to be scheduled on 13th August at the US consulate in Khartoum, Sudan. I saw that there has been 3,781 selected entrants for Sudan for the DV 2018. I also read about the cut offs in the AF region. My questions are:
1- Does the VB help me in having an idea of when I should be expecting an interview since mine is not a DV 2018 visa?
2- Will the cut offs effect when I get my interview?
3- How are other immigrant visa ( like mine) interviews scheduled?
Thank you in advance

1. No.
2. It has nothing to do with your case.
3. I don’t know.
