Hi simon,
So for my education qualifications since the university has my original high school diploma I intend to take a certified copy and I wonder whether they will accept it, I can’t take out the original for so long the university will then consider me a drop out.
Should I take my associate’s degree or would a certified copy be okay?
September 9, 2018 at 15:29
I don’t know, but surely your documents are YOUR documents.
September 9, 2018 at 16:18
Hello sir
I was told by someone that before going for the visa interview, you will first of all do a medical examination but only by a physician recommended by the Consular and that after your medical examination by the physician, your result will be handed to you but in a sealed envelope and you are not allowed to open it until the day for your interview when you will hand it to the consule. And they will be the one to look at the results of your medical and tell you if you will be approved of the visa. Now, the question I want to ask is if what he said is accurate or not since he has never played the dvlottery before. And I also want to know if your medical examination can be done by any other physician and which you would be allowed to know the results of the test before going for the interview. Thank you
September 9, 2018 at 16:38
The official rules and requirements state it all… it’s important to read them, not to say mandatory. If you did read them you’d know it is absolutely correct: only physicians appointed by the embassies can perform your medical examination. If you go to another physician, the results won’t be taken into consideration. As for the sealed envelop, you are forbidden to open it. Only the CO should open it
September 9, 2018 at 19:02
Thank you so much for this information. It has helped me clear my doubt. Thank you
September 9, 2018 at 17:55
It is mostly accurate (although may vary by embassy). You use the physician the embassy want you to use.
September 9, 2018 at 19:05
Thanks a lot sir for your reply.
My doubt has been cleared
Thank you.
September 9, 2018 at 23:09
For the results(based on my personal experience) you are allowed to know them; you can discuss it with your doctor and if you have a curable desease he/she usually prescribed medication for you.
My advise here; get the list of disqualifiable deseases(TB, syphillis, gonhorea etc) and get tested for them 3 months before your medicals(sometimes the time of your medicals will not allow you to have a proper treatment in case you have one of those deseases)
Good lucky.
September 10, 2018 at 14:16
Thank you so much for this information.
September 10, 2018 at 22:22
That is true, you can’t open and is not every hospital or physician that do can it,go to their website, you will see those who are allowed to do it for you
September 9, 2018 at 17:28
Hello Simon,
My Winner number is 2018EU35XXX
The September Bulletin has a cut-off at EU25XXX.
Q1: is is possible that as of May 2018 all EU winners were current (my layers told me so but I personally didn’t check the bulletin) seems odd that the cut-off went backwards…
Q2: Is it correct that the KCC does not sent out notifications anymore once your case number is current and you have to check yourstatus and potential interview date your selfon the KCC website?
Q3- if Q2 applies, could I have with my case numbers heduledan interview already in April/May/June OR is it likely that eventhough all numbers were current I would have still get in line and not get processed until September when the cut off was introduced?
Q4: you mentioned somewhere that the year 2018 has been unusual regarding the DV lottery, but why/how?
Thanks for your answers!!
September 9, 2018 at 18:00
1. No. Your lawyer don’t know what they were talking about.
2. No
3. No. Your number never got current.
4. I have written many articles about that over the past few months, I don’t have time to repeat all that – but they are available to read still.
September 10, 2018 at 11:25
Greatly appreciate it!
My lawfirm was FRAGOMEN Frankfurt. Can you believe it?
Q4- is it possible to send a link?
One more: Is there a way to check the respectiv months of 2018 for the then official bulletin numbers?
Thank you!
September 10, 2018 at 12:03
The only region that went “backwards” is AF. EU never went current and the cut off numbers were always low. Never reached 35K so the lawyer is a liar. Also, the DV process is so simple, lawyers only make it more complicated and more expensive.
Official website to get the official numbers. They’re public information
September 10, 2018 at 13:54
I can believe it. What I can’t understand is why you paid them to do anything. A waste of money for such an easy process.
There are many of my articles. It’s a blog – use the calendar to scroll through the articles.
The visa bulletins are here:

Hi Brit,
Pls I am DV 2018 and my interview is 13th of this month.Pls my question is if I am issued the visa how long will I stay because the DV2018 will end 30th September 2018.
Thank you.
September 9, 2018 at 18:01
What do you mean? How long you will stay???
September 9, 2018 at 18:49
Yes pls,how long will I stay in Ghana because DV2018 will end this month.
September 9, 2018 at 20:45
1. USE REPLY!
2. Make your question clear.
You have had two useless replies now because you are unclear about what you are asking. I don’t have time to waste.
September 9, 2018 at 21:54
i think i understood his question
He said he will have interview in 13th September, and because DV2018 will end this month is his visa will expire if he didn’t travel to usa asap in this month . or he could stay and travel in November for example.
September 10, 2018 at 03:52
That is nothing like the question he asked – but travel is OK after September 30.

Dear Simon;
I am really sorry if similar questions have been asked and answered but I can’t find it.
1. When the mailing adress is different from the permanent one; where the green card is mailed to?
2. Can uscis mail your green before your arrive in the USA?
3. If 3 is true/yes how can I change the adress where my card will be mailed before I make my activation trip?(Without waiting the time I will be in front of the CBP officer, because I already paid my fees and I am planning to make my activation trip in december; so I fear that in december my card will already be mailed.)
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Regards;

September 10, 2018 at 03:55

Once you already pay for your card,,,the one who has the mailing address should always check the mail box.after you pay ,the card will be send to you in three weeks time.because if that card is return to US IS OFFICE,it will take you almost a year before you get it back….it happen to me.
September 10, 2018 at 15:35
Dear PAPA JG;
More details on your case please! What happened and how come it ended it up going back to uscis?

Respected Mr. Simon ,
greeting of the day !!!
Frist of all you are doing great and you are like an angel for everyone DV winner .
I have one query about police Certificate , As I was in Oman from January 2012 to 30 march 2016.
when I left Oman , I took police clearance on 5th march 2016 , and I come back home on 30 march 2016 .
and I never return back Oman since March 2016 , Now question is , as I have PCC from OMAN but its from 2016 , do I
do I need new one or it will be Valid old one because I never back Oman since I took PCC.
Your suggestion and guidance will be very valuable to me .
once again thank you very much for your support as always.
sincerely
Alex
September 10, 2018 at 13:39
In those circumstances a CO can accept the old police cert – but a new one would be less risk.
September 10, 2018 at 10:52
Hello Simon,
Where / How do you register the address where the embassy will send your passport after the interview?
September 10, 2018 at 13:46
Some embassies have people register with a courier prior to the interview. It varies by embassy so you just follow their instructions.
September 10, 2018 at 12:20
Hello brit, does midterm elections in U.S.affect those who want to travel maybe November or December?
September 10, 2018 at 13:55
No
September 10, 2018 at 14:45
Hello brit
please I have this question to ask because I haven’t been able to see it in the FAQs. And the question is, should every dv applicant take along with them a police cert to the interview? And if yes, then what is the reason for tha? Please am asking because I do not the the reason for the police certification or whatever it’s called. Thank you
September 10, 2018 at 15:43
I am not Simon neither do I reply on his behalf but what kind of question? Really?! If you want a visa you should/must provide all the required documents no question asked! Besides, google the use of a police record/clearance for more information.
Good lucky
September 10, 2018 at 15:45
You applying for visa and the police report is stated requirement. . Obviously to check if applicant has any criminal records that might make them inadmissible as per USA immigration laws. Please just get one or you may choose not to apply if you can not or do not want to submit to that.
September 10, 2018 at 16:22
First, it is REQUIRED that you read the instructions you were given in your selection letter. If you had done that you would know the rules about police certs.
As to why – well, the USA is entitled to make someone ineligible to emigrate (or even enter) to the USA if they decide that person is unsuitable. Certain criminal actions can cause that.
September 10, 2018 at 21:54
Britsimon, you simply are the best.
Thank you so much sir. I am more than clarified.
September 25, 2018 at 21:03
Hi Simon
I have done my DV2018 interview but my visa is still not issued because the Tuberculosis sputum culture test takes 6 to 8 weeks and will not get the result until after September 30, 2018 which is the end of the DV 2018 program. Can the embassy issue a visa after September 30 when the result comes? Or is there anything I can do?
September 25, 2018 at 22:46
No and no. There is no chance, and nothing you can do.
September 10, 2018 at 19:09

September 10, 2018 at 19:26

September 11, 2018 at 10:57
Hey Brit, what kind of visa bulletin are they going to release in the next days since the one of October has been already released? Thanks.
September 11, 2018 at 16:14
It will be called the October VB – and it gives November interview ranges.
September 11, 2018 at 13:05
Hi, BritSimon. Thanks a lot for all the information you’ve shared; I have a question: Is it normal that I was given back my photograph after my interview before leaving the embassy? Aren’t they supposed to keep it in their files or something? Just checking it wasn’t a mistake.
September 11, 2018 at 16:17
Not normal, no.
September 11, 2018 at 17:29
That’s scary, what should I do?
September 11, 2018 at 17:35
First – relax! There is probably a simple explanation – there is no need to be scared. Then be patient and wait to hear the outcome of your interview.
September 11, 2018 at 14:13
Actually i have got little bit of brown stain at the side Of my academic transcript bt the words are visible easily … Does it gonna make any issue during my visa interview? What should i do give me some suggestion i am so worried
Thanking you
September 11, 2018 at 16:17
I haven’t seen the document – but you say it is still legible – so that should be ok.
September 11, 2018 at 14:31
Hi Simon!
Finland, 2019EU213XX, here!
I already submitted the DS-260 form. I was traveling from August 2015 till March 2016 so I wrote on DS-260 application that my address during that time was my mailing address where my parents were living since I did not have a permanent address at the time because of my travels.
Is it ok that I wrote on my DS-260 application my mailing address as my previous address from August 2015 till March 2016? Even tho I was not living there because of my travels.
Or should I contact KCC and ask them? To unlock my DS-260 maybe? Or am I just over thinking?
September 11, 2018 at 16:18
Overthinking.
September 11, 2018 at 14:46
Hi Brit if you can remember, I am the 2018AF case holder who got my case transferred from Ghana to London, got my medicals delayed after my interview and later had an email from the LND embassy that, the can’t process my case again because of shortage of visa and hence they can’t tell wheather my visa will be issued or not.
However I checked my status today and it has been updated from ready to administrative processing. Is this telling me that a visa has now been allocated for me that my case is under consideration?
September 11, 2018 at 16:19
It is not telling you anything. Patience.
September 11, 2018 at 16:29
Ok thanks
September 11, 2018 at 17:52
Hi Brit, again what does this in the 2018 September visa bulletin mean?
“Section 203(c) of the INA provides up to 55,000 immigrant visas each fiscal year to permit additional immigration opportunities for persons from countries with low admissions during the previous five years. The NACARA stipulates that beginning with DV-99, and for as long as necessary, up to 5,000 of the 55,000 annually-allocated diversity visas will be made available for use under the NACARA program. This resulted in reduction of the DV-2018 annual limit to 50,000. DV visas are divided among six geographic regions. No one country can receive more than seven percent of the available diversity visas in any one year”.
Thanks for your help.
September 11, 2018 at 17:55
There are 50k visas available (including derivatives). No single country can receive more than 7% of that number.
September 11, 2018 at 18:06
Ok, I was asked to check for visa availability in September can you help me with that, how many visa are available in September for people whose cases were kept on hold till September?
September 11, 2018 at 20:26
We don’t know the precise number of remaining visas at any given time.
September 11, 2018 at 14:56
Hi Brit i’m here to ask this question, coz we re left with two weeks only for the cutoff i did my interview on the 21st of august and i was put on AP and everyday they always update it but still on AP.
so my question is can i write the embassy or i should wait till cutoff…
thanks
September 11, 2018 at 15:05
Chris
Definitely you should write to the embassy. What is your region?
September 11, 2018 at 15:32
africa case 31xxx
September 11, 2018 at 15:47
Im in the same boat from Asia. AP since 7th Aug because of Medicals. It is because of their early call for the interview. I submitted medical on 15th and still AP. Updated 22, 31 and after 11 days today too. should i contact Embassy? Thanks in advance Yoojin.
September 11, 2018 at 16:20
Contact them if you want.
September 11, 2018 at 16:19
You can write to them if you want.
September 11, 2018 at 16:31
Thank you Sir.
September 13, 2018 at 11:57
Hey Chris what was you reason for AP and did they give you any letter concerning your AP Case
September 11, 2018 at 21:07
Dear Brit
Today I had the interview for the visa for the green card visa and it was denied because at the time of the participation I filed as a legally separated civil status since there was a divorce application in court. At the time of completing the DS260, he was already divorced because there was already a court ruling. However, the consular officer told us that he did not qualify because the divorce application document was from the year 2012 and did not have validity.
My question is whether, after being denied by the consular officer, a reconsideration of the case can be requested.
September 11, 2018 at 21:24
No. You were correctly denied, so even if an appeal was possible (it isn’t), you would still be denied.
Separated is a specific legal status. Being divorced, or in the middle of a divorce does NOT mean you are separated.
September 11, 2018 at 21:14
Hi Brit…i have two questions
1. I know playing the Dv lottery twice is a disqualification, but want to know whether playing it twice in previous years(2017,2018 etc) could in anyway affect a winner who takes his or her time to play only once in 2019. Could the previous years come back to hunt him or her for disqualification ?
2. Can a Diploma From any locally unrecognized institution be accepted even if a person doesn’t have a required high school certificate.
September 11, 2018 at 21:25
1. I don’t know for sure.
2. No.
September 11, 2018 at 21:39
Hello Mr Simmon
Do you please have any idea when the September bulletin for the 2019 Fiscal year is going to be released?
September 11, 2018 at 22:07
The VBs are released between the 8th and 15th every month.
September 12, 2018 at 01:38

Hi Brit, thank you for your time and dedication to us …DV winners!
Case no 2018AF13*** interview was on Sept 4 2018 at US Embassy Nairobi Kenya, CO approved our visa (family of 4 size) but no visa number for us coz our 1st interview was missed. I have asked you a Q? it was on interview experience page of your blog, and your kind advice was to wait and see if Embassy can reallocate visas. My case was Updated but still ready.
1. I’m losing hope and what does visa approval mean can it grantee us?
2. What is your opinion should I contact the Embassy?
3. I notice also street address error( name) of my sponsor on my DS-260 but I submitted I-134. will this affect our case?
Thank you Brit.
September 12, 2018 at 06:13
Hello,
You still have the chance. Because your case is already approved and the CO can give you numbers from refused in September cases.
1) Approval cannot guarantee Issue. If there is no available visas due to refused, AP or Noshow cases. Or if KCC fail to send numbers asap.(
2) You should contact the Embassy. At least 2-3 times till the Fiscal end.
3) If your case is approved, how it can affect? If you raise this issue by yourself, probably it can delay or affect.
This is my opinion on your issue.)
Good day!
September 12, 2018 at 14:07
1. Approval is meaningless without a visa. You have to hope they can allocate visas to you.
2. Yes.
3. No
September 12, 2018 at 14:51
Thank you Brit. Happy to hear from you.
September 13, 2018 at 10:45

Hi Brit.
I was selected for Dv 2019 and have completed form ds-260.
Can I apply for dv 2020 will waiting for my case to be processed?
September 12, 2018 at 14:07
Yes
September 12, 2018 at 11:06
Brit, if a derivative (child age 15) just started High School this month and DS-260 was filled in May 2018 when she was in Elementary School, do we have to now unlock DS-260 and correct current school info and address and say YES to question “have you ever attended any educational institution at a secondary level or above” because she is now in HS and will be at the time of the interview? Thanks.
September 12, 2018 at 14:09
No
September 12, 2018 at 12:20

Hi britsimon.
Doing great job really appreciate it.
Have few short questions.
Case nmbr.2019AS13×××
Ds260 submitted on August/08/2018
Selectees from Afghanistan 543.
Q1: am i save regarding to my case nmbr ?
Q2: when will I get ,2nls ?
Q3:is affidavit of support required for us embassy Kabul Afghanistan?
Best regards
Noor M M
September 12, 2018 at 16:32
1. Your number may get current, but you should know that you are likely to go through a long period of AP (over 95% of cases in Kabul did in DV2018). Now – Kabul has just issued about half of the cases on AP – but mainly from the earlier numbers, meaning the higher numbers won’t have time to complete AP. That is likely to be the same for your case since your case number means a very late interview. So – you may pay all the fees and never get the visa. You need to decide whether that gamble is worthwhile.
2. June/July next year (assuming the travel ban stays in place)
3. I don’t know – but I recommend you get it if you decide to attend your interview.
September 12, 2018 at 17:10
why are they so late to publish this month’s bulletin. lol
I refresh every time i open my phone.
September 12, 2018 at 17:12
I ve sent my DS 260 already on 1st June 2018 and i was not married by then but got married this month. My interview date is also not in. I want know if its safe to send KCC on my current status as married. Or i should just leave as its and at the interview explain to them? Your views please
September 12, 2018 at 18:37
You must update your marital status. Read the FAQ
September 12, 2018 at 17:14
Hello Simon. Should the ORIGINAL Affidavit i-134 be sent to me (on paper not emailed)? I am the principal applicant, should my wife get a separate Affidavit eventually from the same person?
Thank you.

September 12, 2018 at 18:39
I don’t think it is a problem.
September 12, 2018 at 20:44
I have applied for reconsideration of case, how long will it take for me to be called for interview again
September 12, 2018 at 23:23
I doubt they will call you at all. As I told you before, your first interview was your chance – and you were not properly prepared. They have no obligation to “reconsider” your case, and at the end of this month the program will be over anyway.

Hello Brit.
First, I want to thank you so much for your help. Your website helped me so much, and I am plan to donate after I will move and find a job.
I hope that you can help me with the questions that I have.
1.I am already got the visa and I am plan to move soon. Do you think that I should translate my bachelor degree (degree in law) by Notary?
2. In my country we have something like GED, do you think that I should translate it too by Notary?
Thank you so much!
September 12, 2018 at 23:25
1. If you plan to work within a field that requires the degree you may want to get an educational evaluation – but that is beyond the scope of what I deal with – so its up to you to decide.
2. No.

Hello Simon
My Husband submitted his DS260 in June 2018 for DV 2019, we got married this September, I honestly dont want him to add me to his application because i fear it might cause delay, hope it wont cause denial of his visa during the interview. Pls advice us
September 13, 2018 at 00:30
It would be *idiotic* NOT to include you on the application – your fears are unfounded.
First it is the easiest way to get you a visa. Second, he is REQUIRED to inform them of his marital status change. Lastly, the chances of denial are low *IF* your marriage is genuine.

Hello Simon, I am a DV2019 selectee case number SA00004XX. I completed my DS-260 back in june and sent it. Two months later, I traveled to the US on tourist visa for a week. Should I ask KCC to return the DS-260 so I can add the information about this short trip or no update is necessary? Thank you
September 13, 2018 at 03:35
No need.
September 13, 2018 at 01:47
Hello – firstly, thank you for this website, it’s a terrific resource that has no doubt helped countless people greatly, including me.
My question relates to the Immigrant Data Summary I’ve just received along with my Immigrant Visa from the US Consulate General in Sydney, Australia. I had a look through the FAQ and couldn’t spot anything covering it, apologies in advance if you have in fact addressed it previously.
All information on my Immigrant Data Summary is correct except ‘Final Address in the US’ – it appears that the consular official who processed my case has used the original address included when I filled out the DS-260 electronic application, as opposed to the updated address I wrote on the DV Document Cover Sheet submitted at my recent DV appointment (my good friend has recently moved houses in the same city in the US, hence the change).
Am I right in thinking that the address on the Immigrant Data Summary is where the Consulate will eventually mail my Green Card, despite the updated address provided on my DV Document Cover Sheet? Is it imperative to contact the Consulate to rectify?
Thanks very much,
JD

You can check and update the address to be used for the GC delivery at the POE. Make sure you do that.

Thank you, greatly appreciated 🙂

Hi Brit, thanks for the work you do.My question is on the oncoming d.v entry.I have a friend who lives with the husband ,they have three kids but have never officialized the union. They have been living together but they is no book evidence that they are husband and wife.Should they enter the lottery as a married couple or each single individual?Thank you.
September 13, 2018 at 03:37
Each single – each listing the children.
September 13, 2018 at 02:21
Hey there . My brother and family have the Dv interview tomorrow. He lost the original High school diploma , but he got the certified copy for it. Do u think theyll deny him for it? Thanks in advance!!!
September 13, 2018 at 03:37
Probably not.
September 13, 2018 at 03:49
What is his highest degree? High school?
September 13, 2018 at 05:49
Yes High school.
September 13, 2018 at 06:34
I mean if he has university degree (bachelor or master) the high school certificate is not neccessary. But in case of high school only he must submit the original certificate. The CO check the original certificate with certified copy… and return it. Some DV cases was denied because of inability of original certificate submission.
September 13, 2018 at 06:43
Unfortunately high school is the highest education . And he lost his original diploma. So worried…
September 13, 2018 at 13:50
@Yoojin. I understand you are trying to help, but please be careful with what you answer!
Two things you said here:
“I mean if he has university degree (bachelor or master) the high school certificate is not neccessary.” That is not always correct – the CO’s have been known to ask for HS documents even from people with higher degrees.
“But in case of high school only he must submit the original certificate.” That is not true at all, not as a law that all embassies will follow! The point is these things vary by embassy and case. If someone had their house burned down and lost their original certificate, according to you that would ensure denial the world over in ever case. That is not true. It is true to say some cases would have been denied for that, but only in countries where record keeping is poor and/or fraud is high.
September 13, 2018 at 06:59
There is 3 way of outcome. 1) visa will be refused as you have not prepared well 2) You can be required to send the original certificate later by delivery service. 3) Consul put you on AP and request about your education directly to Government education authorities (it can take long time). But without original documents the chance is very small…
September 13, 2018 at 07:12
Even though he got the certified copy from the government? And its mentioned also in his military certificate that he finished the high school…
September 13, 2018 at 07:22
Ok this is what I just read .
The principal
applicant must submit a certified copy of a school diploma confirming successful completion of
secondary or higher education;
So he does have the certified copy , it does not say the original one.. or I’m not understanding it right ..?
September 13, 2018 at 07:26
Never mind. I just read about the original documents.. let’s just pray And hope that whatever proof he has will work!!
September 13, 2018 at 07:32
You know better… each country has its own norms and standards…
September 13, 2018 at 07:44
Absolutely. Thanks for your comments Yoojin!! Appreciated!
September 13, 2018 at 13:55
@Laura. In virtually every embassy, a CO will accept an official copy of an education document if the original is lost. THe CO will make a judgement based on standards in the country, and the assessment of the person sitting before him/her.
In some countries, verification from the education authority will be necessary, and that would take time.
What country are you interviewing and where is the education certificate from?
September 13, 2018 at 11:13
Quick update – Their case has been approved!!! 🙂
September 13, 2018 at 14:09
LOL – Great!
September 13, 2018 at 16:11
@Simon its Europe/Armenia. They didn’t mention about the original copy at all ! And all these time we have been living anxiously, LOL also thank you for all the comments. And good luck!
September 13, 2018 at 16:24
Right – so there was no concern in the first place.
September 13, 2018 at 05:00
Hi Brit,
I’ve read a few conflicting answers on this, does the photocopy of the birth certificate need to be notary-certified?
Thanks!
September 14, 2018 at 03:25
Have I missed this in FAQ’s or somewhere else?
September 14, 2018 at 04:29
Typically not, since you present the original and a copy – but do check the embassy specific instructions.
September 14, 2018 at 05:15
Thank you Brit!
September 13, 2018 at 08:54
