Still the system is not available, when do you think it will open? do you think the closed for some selected or it is for all?

Hi Brit,
I have just received my DV visa. However, I need to enter US by 17th December, 2018. At the same time I am a final year PhD student and planning to defend my thesis by April 2019. After entering to US, can I come back to the country where I am pursing my PhD and stay, lets say for 3-4 months, defend and then finally move to US for good? Is that normal and will not cause any issues? Moreover, during this period, can I register my foreign address with the USCIS?
Thanks.
September 17, 2018 at 14:27
Normal, read the FAQ.
No you do not register your foreign address.

Hi, Simon,
Submitted my DS-260 in May 2018, for DV2019.
Have not received any news is it processed or not – any thoughts? Will I receive any messages about the form statuses?

Hey, I won dv 2019 lottery and have already filled the form ds 260 but the dates of birth are not the same, during my initial application i used a different date and when filling form damn 260 I used a different date which reflects in the passport, can that cause alarm or deny me a visa during my visa interview
September 17, 2018 at 14:29
Generally not a problem as long as there are no fraud concerns.
September 17, 2018 at 14:42
Hi Simon,
I have filled ds-260 form with my wife about 2 months ago. But she changed her idea about GC and she doesnt want to come to interview. If she doesnt come to interview do i lose my chance for GC. btw i’m the primary applicant.
September 17, 2018 at 15:49
You can still be approved.
September 17, 2018 at 18:12

Hello Brit.
When I was born my father didn’t recognise the paternity so in the Birth Certificate his name was written according to my mother’s statement and surname was chosen mother’s surname .And in fact in the passport my father’s surname is different from the Birth Certificate.
1.This will cause a problem in the interview??
2.Which surname is right to write in DS260?The one that is in the Birth Certificate or that is in the passport?
Thank you very much.
September 17, 2018 at 23:39
1. No
2. Whichever you consider to be the accurate legal name. In other names used you can list the other name. Take proof of the name change (if you have it) to the interview.
September 18, 2018 at 03:40

Hi Brit… Questions : Dv 2019AF1***
1. Can a person play DV answering that he or she has a child without giving the information and photos of the child?
2. My bro went for interview and he was denied after repeatedly ask about having a child and he insisted to NOT having a child. What’s your best guess about the missing link?
3. I also have a colleague who was denied because the CO insisted that he registered twice the same fiscal year DV 2018. Friend unto this day can’t recall playing twice at any point in time (God is in the detail) Is this another form of taking people out discretionally?
4. No appeal, No second chance except being placed on AP which atimes proves to be worrisome and mind blowing. Do CO sometimes Decide base on their mood and state of nature?
5. Choosing to play DV with securing all correct documentations is one thing and getting the CO’s to decide your fate is another big issue lol. Don’t you think so Brit?
September 18, 2018 at 05:57
1. No
2. How would I know?
3. No – I doubt that!
4. No, but they are, at least in some countries, accustomed to dealing with people lying.
5. No
September 18, 2018 at 09:04
Brit… U are superhuman. God bless you bro am honestly bellyful with your take. THANKS!
September 18, 2018 at 06:08

Hi Brit,
Thank you for all the help ..
I am a dv2018 winner and landed for my first trip early jan 2018. Then left and my friend mailed my GC when thy got it, then I reentered again in May 2018. My question am I still under the one year Out-Of-US permission until Jan 2019 or I have to be back there within 6 months from the May last entry. Thank you
September 18, 2018 at 14:23
Read the FAQ about absences.
September 19, 2018 at 10:32
Hi BritSimon,
Am only asking will the one year allowance start from Jan when i first landed, or now the 6-month rule will be enforced since my last visit to the us which was within the one year grace period. Thanks
September 19, 2018 at 14:41
So read the FAQ as I told you!
September 18, 2018 at 12:22
Hello Brit,
on the website of the US embassy in Liberia, it says we should use the appropriate Form I-864 Affidavit of Support for each financial sponsor along with a photocopy of the sponsor’s IRS transcript or most recent U.S. federal income tax return, and any relevant W-2s. should be use.
my questions
1. using form I-134 will not be a problem since it is not on the embassy website in Liberia?
2. does the form I-134 incorporates joint sponsorship? or if a sponsor financial strength is low for a group of six, can another sponsor use different form I-134 serving as a second for the same principle applicant and his derivatives?
September 18, 2018 at 14:28
1. DV cases ONLY use the I-134, including Liberia.
2. One form for the whole family, so the sponsors income needs to be high enough for that – read the FAQ about I-134.
September 18, 2018 at 13:23
Hello brit,
i ve did my interview with my husband on 13 september (2018 AF36xxx) and they told me that we were accepted but they don’t have visas numbers so they will try to get ones.the guy gave me a ticket to collect the passports tomorrow (wednesday 19) . the problem is my status shows ready and even today the page was updated but still ready.Do you think that i may go tomorrow and just get the passports without visas?
thx
September 18, 2018 at 13:37
My advise; if time and money is not a problem you can go there and check otherwise wait a few days for your status to turn into issued
September 18, 2018 at 14:30
I don’t know. However, there are enough visas left for AF region.
September 18, 2018 at 16:47
Dear Brit
When reviewing the US embassy local website of my country, they provide there kind of checklist and actions required for DV selectees, one of those are “evidence of financial” support and as i can understand its requires filling one of those forms (I-864, I-864EZ, I-864A, and I-864W).
Explanation about them and how tomfill them is not clear. But i also cant understand why do they ask formit,is it mandatory etc.
any light you can put on that and what i shall do,will be appreciated.
Thanks a lot
September 18, 2018 at 16:58
DV cases do NOT use the I-864, but embassies may ask for the I-134.
https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
September 18, 2018 at 17:09
The request for that I-134 shall be made during the inerview?, in other words how shall i know if needed or not
September 18, 2018 at 17:18
You get the I-134 and present it if asked.
September 18, 2018 at 18:08
2NLs for November 2018 interviews being sent. A friend of mine just received his.
September 18, 2018 at 18:33
hi BritSimon, hi ! you are a gem indeed helping out all , God bless you. My case number is 2019AF17XXX . When should i expect the the interview ? i have a query . my birth certificate from Ghana has a slightly different first name from my school certificates, degree and passport. 1. Should I add the birth certificate name as an alias on form 260 ? I have no proof of change of name. 2.what should I do? I have never used the birth certificate name on any official certificate.
September 18, 2018 at 19:58
https://britsimonsays.com/dv2019-basic-questions/
For the name – yes use other names used.
September 20, 2018 at 08:26
Dear Simon , if me , my wifeand child were to get the GC after the dv interview but then later I and my wife decide to give up the GC , is the derivative still allowed to continue with the GC or not .
September 20, 2018 at 18:12
You do not have the GC until you have entered the USA. Once you have all done that, the derivative does not depend on the principal.
September 19, 2018 at 04:14
Hi
I have some question
1.If there are 4 members in my family and 4 members in the sponsor’s family, how much should be the sponsor’s income?
2.Is I134 letter compulsory?
3.Should the job offer letter be in the Dv winner’s name or can it be in the spouse’s name ,too?
4.If there is a job offer letter in the Dv winner’s or spouse’s name , is it ok if the sponsor’s income is less?
September 19, 2018 at 05:26
1. https://britsimonsays.com/all-about-public-charge-affidavit-of-support-i-134/
2. See link.
3. Either, but ONLY use a job offer that is GENUINE.
4. No – the sponsor either meets the required level or doesn’t.
September 19, 2018 at 08:25
Hello Bro I hope you are doing well
I have just need your advice.
I had interview in february 2018 I passed it the officer said me we will wait for you medical result,I asked him to return my passport he returned me,but i did not back passport to embassy. On april i called to embassy and asked did they get my medical result they said yes and waiting for passport. becouse of some resean I could not send it. Two days ago I asked them do I have any chance for geting visa they said me you shoul go and pass medical then send to us your passport. The last day for DV lotorry it is 31 of oktober.
What do you recomend me ?
September 19, 2018 at 14:09
You will have to wait for Simon to give you the most accurate answer you can ever have.
But before he reply to you let me make some correction:
The last day is 30 SEPTEMBER not 31 OCTOBER. So you only have almost 10 days. Personally I think you should hurry up with your medicals and submit it as soon as possible.
Good lucky
September 19, 2018 at 14:36
It sounds like you are not too bothered about getting the Green Card as you would have done something before if you really wanted it. There is almost no time left, and since you have wasted a further two days since you spoke to them, there is probably not enough time to issue a visa even if you give them the medical and passport. But, if you can afford to gamble the money on the medical cost, you can try. You have until the Friday of next week – if not approved by then, the chance is over.
September 19, 2018 at 09:02
Hello BRIT. i am principal applicant. And have two children 3 and 1 year old. My boyfriend and I can not marry officially because he is waiting for his documents. So I am afraid the Co will not give me and my children visas because he may think that I will not be able to work because of children and maybe will become a public charge. So is it better to take the children out of ds 260 form also? And only me to go to the interwiew? How do you think it is better to act? P.s. my boyfriend will come to usa after we marry officially. (Family based visa)
September 19, 2018 at 14:23
I am not the most appropriate person to give you an answer. Sure Simon will give you the best one.
But why would you on earth leave your children because of a damn visa? Especially the one with 1 year even the old one is not old to be left behind.
Besides; there are many ways of overcoming the public charge”thing”; one and the most strong is the ” I-134 form” signed by a friend; relative; a friend of a friend.. etc(There are much useful ressources on this forum about the i-134 form; take your time and read them carefully and ask questions).
You did not tell us your case number/region as the embassy procedures vary(Some will ask you i-134 form some others will not BUT IT IS ALWAYS WISE TO HAVE IT REGARDLESS YOUR EMBASSY).
Good lucky and I hope our Godsent Father/Brother Simon will make this more clear to you.
September 19, 2018 at 14:39
First, you don’t change the form for your convenience, or suit some story. You have children, the DS260 should say that! Other single parents have been given visas. So -proceed, or delay until you can marry. Assuming yours is a DV2019 case you have plenty of time to get documents and get married.
September 19, 2018 at 10:36
Hello Simon,
We did medical today for 2019 but in my chest x-ray they found some marks. So they ask me to do sputum test which will take 2 months to get result. My questions are:
1. Our interview is in Oct. First week. Can my husband and my child only go for interview? My husband is the selectee.
2. If yes then will they get visa or will it be hold until my result?
3. What is the chance that I will get the visa?
September 19, 2018 at 14:44
In my opinion, you should all attend the interview. You will be on hold until your clear result comes through. You have plenty of time to wait until your clear result comes through.
The other way is for your husband to contact the embassy and reschedule the appointment until December/Jan.
September 19, 2018 at 15:10
What will be if only my husband and son go for interview on October coz we told IOM to schedule for them only in October.
September 19, 2018 at 16:00
I really would not recommend that. You should interview with the principal selectee.
September 19, 2018 at 16:41
Then what is the process to reschedule our interview in our case?
September 19, 2018 at 16:51
Contact the embassy!
September 20, 2018 at 14:57
I had similar case and the principal applicant attended the interview alone with other dependants and my interview was delayed until the medical was received after two months. The Embassy will give you another interview date after they receive your medical results from IOM. i was issued later on my own. But am not sure if it applies to all Embassies.
September 20, 2018 at 18:23
1. It varies by embassy
2. Depending on timing it can cause risk and complication. My advice was based on the safest approach.
September 19, 2018 at 10:46
Hi Brit
I think that you are the best person to know anything about DV lottery earliest. I hope you will inform us immediately when DV2020 announced.
Thank you and best wishes!
September 19, 2018 at 14:38
Hahaha; sure he is! But those things can be handled without wasting his precious time. The one and the only one most genuine website for such info is : https://www.dvlottery.state.gov/
You/We can check it by ourselves!
Let google handle those small stuffs and adress to Simon the real pressing ones.
Thanks
September 19, 2018 at 12:14
Hi brother, pls just answer Y or N if you have time Xx
Is there an issue entering Hawaii to trigger you Green Card?
Is there a minimum time I need to spend in the US to trigger the Visa?
All being in order, how long between initial entry and Green Card being mailed to the US address provided?
How far ahead is it recommended you pay the USCIS fee?
Do I need to take the Disc provided by my authorised health provider, or are the Xrays in the visa packet enough?
What is involved in the identity verification quiz?
Thank you!
September 19, 2018 at 14:46
1. No problem.
2. No
3. Up to 3 or 4 months.
4. A few days.
5. Take both
6. I have no idea since that is something you just made up.
September 20, 2018 at 02:13
The identity verification quiz is part of the online account creation at https://my.uscis.gov
It’s a silly multiple choice quiz with questions like ‘what is your mother’s maiden name’ where the correct answer is taken from the DS-260. If you are the person that entered the DS-260, it’s easy. If not, it’s easy too -the other options do not really match well….
September 19, 2018 at 14:04
Hello Brit,
I applied for a Green Card in 2016, won my Green Card in 2017 (My Case number is 2018EUXXXX), our interview was on February 2018, after that embassy of US asked for additional documents concerning sponsor in US(that was in April-May), in July embassy returned our passports saying ”Our case is under administrative processing, we will let you know, when the final decision is ready”. The 30th September is 1 week away (in CEAC webpage they warn us, that REGARDLESS of any administrative processing we must apply and receive our visas before September 30th), and I don’t know what to do. May I suppose that it’s a denial? How long the administrative processing can take?
September 19, 2018 at 14:50
I can’t predict how long the AP will take, nor whether there will be a visa available for you. All you can do is wait.
September 19, 2018 at 15:25
Hello House, please any Ghanaian with his or her 2nl for either October or November ?
September 19, 2018 at 15:57
Hello BritSimon
A consultation after receiving the 2NL with how much time in advance should schedule the medical appointment for the exams.
Thanks for your help.
September 19, 2018 at 16:50
When you get the 2NL, schedule the medical – and see when the physician can set the appointment. The visa will be set to expire 6 months after the date of the medical.
September 19, 2018 at 20:07
Dear Brit how R U..??
Question on Marriage…
– During my initial DV application I was Single & I also send DS 260 as a Single ..now I want to marry but don’t want to include her on my DS before interview because of most denials in our country were due to marriage after winning a Dv…. So, what will be z effect If I marry her & not include on my DS,,????
Thanks in Advance,,,,
September 19, 2018 at 20:39
Are you marrying for love? If yes, then why would you have issues proving your marriage is real? Do you have pictures?Do you live together? If it is a real marriage then the chances of denial are low. It is always riskier to marry after selection but life happens.
If you choose to get married but omit her from your DS260 then you might be disqualified, you cannot be married and participate as single.
If you choose to marry after the interview then you will have to sponsor her and it is a long and expensive process.
So the safest bet is to do things in order and legally: marry, update your DS260, then interview together. It is better for you. At least, it seems more logical and simple.
September 19, 2018 at 20:48
The effect would be that you are lying. I do NOT agree that “most denials in our country were due to marriage after winning a Dv”, because if the marriage is genuine there is no problem. However, if you change your marital status before the interview you must not conceal that.
September 19, 2018 at 20:20
Hi Brit, I have tried searching some of the other Q&As but can’t seem to find this exact answer, so apologies if this has been asked somewhere else:
After submitting my DS260, I moved from NZ to the United Kingdom. Do I need to update my DS to reflect this? If so, do I just do this by getting it unlocked by emailing the KCC?
Thanks
September 19, 2018 at 21:36
You should update the DS260 if possible. If you don’t, you will have to travel for your interview.
September 19, 2018 at 23:43
Hi dear Brit,
I paid the USCIS fee for my green card, now my address is changed i want to change my address online in order to receive my green card in my new address but i have some problem:
1. should i say yes to this question:Is this change of address for an application or petition currently in progress?
2. if yes what form number should i select?
3. in the US as: permanent resident or other? which one should i choose
4. is change of address cause any delays for receiving my green card?
Thank you very much
September 20, 2018 at 00:10
If you have already entered the USA, your card will be sent to the address they knew about when you entered.
September 20, 2018 at 01:28
Hi brit ..i am an applicant ,someone leaked to my ds260 and added herself as my spouse ,i tried to change but it is impossible ,what should i do?
September 20, 2018 at 02:41
Email KCC to explain what happened and don’t take this person to the interview. Also – no one can get into your form unless you are careless with your information – so be more careful in future.
September 20, 2018 at 03:05
Thank you Mr. Simon for your helping hand. Finally to day Im collecting our Visas. I will write down my experience later on. It may be important for those who apply with employment. Thanks again and will be back to you with Visas in hand. And sure I will donate something later.
September 20, 2018 at 03:39
I look forward to reading the story – congrats!
September 20, 2018 at 03:56
Sure
September 20, 2018 at 06:55
Gm BRIT
Please I made a mistake with my date of birth(year) when applying for the DV 2019.
Instead of 1993,, I made it 1994.
Pls will I be deny of a visa
Or I need to change all my documents to the new date?
September 20, 2018 at 16:52
You don’t change documents to match a “mistake”!!!
If you complete the DS260 accurately, this would not normally be a problem.
September 20, 2018 at 07:44
Hi dear Brit, I would like to thank you for all of this,
i have a question about my Ds-260 processing time I submit it on June 1st and I re opened it a day before on September 18 to adjust my education level and I just add my BSc degree, because I receive my degree on August. so
1.will it affect my interview time?
2. how long will it take to process the 2nd submitted form?
thank you for your time!
September 20, 2018 at 18:07
1. No
2. I don’t know.
September 20, 2018 at 10:21
If a person suffered from TV in childhood and he did complete treatment in childhood. Is that will be problem or chance of having symptoms of TV even after more than 20 years?
September 20, 2018 at 18:14
I watched a lot of TV when I was a child too… but I think you may mean TB.
If you had TB as a child, that would not cause a problem as long as it has been treated.
September 20, 2018 at 20:21
Thank you
September 20, 2018 at 11:52
Hi Simon,
CASE No. 2019AF20**** Am trying to open CEAC page to access my DS and it tell me that this case is currently not available for the last one month. Kindly advise what i should do because i have contacted KCC and my local embassy and they are not helping.
September 20, 2018 at 18:19
All I can advise is “Contact KCC” – then follow their instructions.
September 20, 2018 at 12:09
Hi Brit. My relatives had their interview today (EU region), they were placed on AP (221g). The consul didn’t return their passports. What are the chances for them to get visas until September 30? Thanks a lot.
September 20, 2018 at 18:20
How could I possibly know the chances – I know nothing about their case!
September 20, 2018 at 12:25
Hi. I would like to know about risk of case number. my CN is EU29XXX.Is it any risk ? I am writing you from Azerbaijan.

September 20, 2018 at 13:29
Hi Mr Simon, hope u re fine, the cutoff of 2018 is next month and i’m still worrying with my status still on AP
a friend of my from a different country just told me he went to the embassy and was told they had to finish with September and if there are any left over visas before they will clear the remaining cases. could that be true.
does it mean the visas can be issue also in October to dv 2018 Africa region…
Thanks and have a nice day..
September 20, 2018 at 13:32
{sorry i mean next week not next month}
September 20, 2018 at 18:21
They cannot approve DV2018 cases after September 30.
September 20, 2018 at 16:49
Hi. What are the chances for an AP under 221g to clear in time for September 30? EU region, the interview was this week. Thank you in advance!
September 20, 2018 at 18:28
Between 0% and 100%.
September 20, 2018 at 23:27
HI Brit,
i am EU20XXX. I haven’t filled in the DS-260 yet because my passport is lost and expired, I have applied for a new one.
My question is should I complete the form anyway and enter a number for an alternative document? I only have a UK Driving Licence or should I wait until I get the passport in a few weeks?
Thanks.
September 21, 2018 at 03:39
It won’t matter either way, you have months to wait anyway.
September 20, 2018 at 23:42
Thanks Brit..
Pls, have someone been offered a visa before where there was an unintentional error during the application? Like the date of birth, but filled the 260 form with the right information?
September 21, 2018 at 03:41
Yes
September 21, 2018 at 05:43
Thanks Sir,,,,
I Will surely give testimony one day.. You’ve been so helpful to me…
The fear is that, Ghana is known to b where VISAS r much rejected.. And me even having a genuine error, the CO might not even listen to me..
Hmm, pls shld I stop the whole process or there’s hope for me?
September 21, 2018 at 05:45

Hi Mr Brit,
Thanks for everything and now I am in The USA. you gave me a lot of favor for it. I have few Questions. please give me some suggestions as you did earlier.
1 I am studying abroad and it will be finished after 2 years. I have to go back and I need to ask from you is whether it is possible to apply for green card even though I leave the USA?
2, Before I had been interviewed as a DV winner I applied for another citizenship from the country where I am studying. If I get the citizenship there before I finish my degree, will it be a reason to loos my green card? (because my passport will changed then. actually even I have a passport as a citizen there I will come to the USA after graduation.)
3 Do I need a social security number even I leave USA within a week?
Thank you.

1. Yes – but you must read the FAQ about how long you can leave for etc.
2. No
3. You don’t *need* it – but it is useful. The SSN and GC will be sent to the address you provided in the DS260

thank you sir. few more questions .
I read the FAQ and going to apply for re entry permit visa. I tried to make an appointment through online but it says there is no any time until next 14 days. but I have to leave 29th of this month. Is there any other ways to do this work? I mean apply for re entry ?
As your advice I am planning to apply for SSN and GC before leaving. then it will arrive to the address where I provided at the airport ( I changed my address I provided in the DS260 at the airport when I arrived.)I can take it when I back again to the US. Is it ok?
** If I can come withing six months later and pick up the GC(the one I apply before leaving) Is it necessary to apply for re entry or just go back and come again after six months? sorry if it is a too bad question ans wasting your time. but I am confused.

Hi brit, First I want to thank you for your help!
I want to take with me a little bit more than 10,000USD and I know that I should declare on it.
Should I pay some Tax for that? Do I need to fill some papers (except the paper in the airplane)or to do something for that?
Thank you very much!

There is a FAQ about that – please read that.

Hello Simon,
Is there a possibility of filing paperwork to bring wife to the US and then getting a re-entry permit and waiting in your home country for her case number to become current?
September 21, 2018 at 13:34
In other words, can you wait outside of the US for your wife to be granted a green card?
September 21, 2018 at 16:38
I tend to not answer non DV questions, but No, because you need to take financial responsibility for the spouse (and therefore have to be working in the USA)
