October 11, 2018 at 16:56
You can’t include a grandchild.

Why nepal has low visa bulletin ? Any reasion ?
October 11, 2018 at 16:59
It is normal. Nepal has a large percentage of the overall selectees and most of them are interviewed in KDU, so – they slow them down.

Good day Mr. Brit.
1. When they say off white background, what colors do they mean exactly?
2. when they say you cannot digitally alter the picture, does this mean that you cannot Photoshop to remove lights or change the background to white?
In properties my photo shows as being used with adobe photoshop
Thank you very much
October 11, 2018 at 19:44
1. Off white means light plain colors. Various shades of white.
2. No altering of the image is preferable, but they are mainly concerned with alterations to the subject. Best approach is take the photo correctly.

Thank you very much for the reply. God bless you!

Dear Sir
I asked before if the Iran and Nepal bulletin include the total bulletin of asia, you siad it includes.
But the bulletin if asia for November 2018 are 1600, while only iran 1550 and nepal 1000, so total for nepal and iran are 1650 which more than 1600 of Asia.
May I have clarification plz …

Hi Simon I applied for DV Lottery twice previously but an successful in both application I applied as single despite being married and with 3 children, so if I apply this time round as married and with children is there any problem
October 11, 2018 at 22:36
Possibly. Lies can come back to haunt you.
October 11, 2018 at 22:48
Hi sir, my case number is 2xx dv2019 and the bulletin came out, but I still do not send my ds260 because my passport expires in January 2019 can I send it in January? Once I have my new passport?
October 11, 2018 at 23:21
Yes.
October 11, 2018 at 22:52
I was misguided by a friend that it will be burden for me if I apply as married but I was advised by my brother who is in USA it will be better if I include my family in the application, so does this change lower my chance to win.
October 11, 2018 at 23:25
Your friend didn’t lie to the US government, you did. Lying to the government is never a good idea.

Hello ,
Please can I use my an andoid phone to snap for the dv photo? Is it acceptable
October 12, 2018 at 03:42

October 12, 2018 at 08:07
Hi Brit,
My case number is 2019AS000031xx.
I’m from Nepal and when I checked the visa bulletin it says Asia (2900) Except Iran 2200
Nepal 1500
What does that mean?
Are the case numbers country specific or reason specific like Asia Europe. If it is reason specific what does Asia 2900 and expect Nepal 1500 mean?
If you have already written about this thing can you please give me the link. Because I couldn’t find it.
Thanks

Hi Brit,
Me and my wife had interview about 3 weeks ago and everything went well! We got our green cards and we are happy now. Thank you for your huge help.
We got married about 6 months ago (during the process) and my wife decided to stay with her last name (we were stressed and we didnt want to complicate paperwork more). Now we have our visas (we dont have our green cards yet, we are still in EU, we are leaving to us in one month) and we are thinking about changing her last name. To do it, we will also have to change her passport but her new passport will be without visa. Do you know how should we proceed? Btw she was the main applicant
October 12, 2018 at 13:31
I don’t have a suggestion. You could ask the embassy.
October 12, 2018 at 08:31
What if am selected on the dv 2020 but ma education level is a o level certificate, will I be removed from the interviews??
October 12, 2018 at 13:33
If you don’t meet the requirements you would be refused during the interview.

October 12, 2018 at 12:45
Dear Brit,
I’m a DV2018 green card holder (thank you for your help during that process), and I have a question about continuous residency and travel.
My visa was endorsed on April 22, 2018 and I returned home shortly thereafter to continue the process of winding things up. That means I have until October 19 (180 days) to renter the United States to keep my citizenship time accrued. I underestimated the time taken to get things sorted, and now need to move later in the year (December).
(1) I’m wondering, is it okay to travel and reenter before October 19, and then return home shortly thereafter until December, to not break continuous residence, or would I have to stay a minimum amount of time before returning home (I think I read somewhere that you need to stay in the US six months before leaving again after an initial six month trip in order to keep continuous residency)?
(2) I’m worried about Trump’s immigration stance – if I return sometime after October but before April (i.e. before 12 months abroad is up), is there likely to be an issue? I have read that it isn’t until after 12 months that they assume you’ve abandoned residency, but I’ve also read that any time you reenter after 6-12 months abroad, you’re likely to be questioned and that you’re technically applying for readmittance.
Thank you for your help again,
Simon
October 12, 2018 at 13:43
1. I don’t know.
2. You are applying for re-admittance every time, but that is not likely to change under Trump.
October 12, 2018 at 12:46
Hello Brit,
As a principal applicant who has worked for more than twelve years, do I need to show any document (s) from my employed entity at the interview. If so what do you think such document (s) should be?
As for my high school & university documents are in tight.
Thanks and hope to hear from you.
October 12, 2018 at 13:44
If you meet education requirements you don’t need to prove work experience.

Hello. What country shall I claim as place of birth, if the country no longer exists ? I am born in the former USSR (now Russia). My passport says “Republic of Georgia, USSR” but it is issued by Russia, and I am a Russian citizen.
I guess this confusion is common for many people. When USSR was split up into Ukraine, Estonia, Russia, Georgia etc. those people who lived in the present Russia became Russian citizens despite being borne in, say, Ukraine or Georgia. So I was born in USSR, Republic of Georgia, which is now an independent country Georgia, but I have Russian citizenship. What country to claim as birth ? It is a quite important question in the application. Thanks
October 12, 2018 at 13:47
If the city/town of birth is in what is now Georgia, write Georgia.

Hi Brit. Please I am scheduled for an interview in embassy in Cameroon on November 6th but I don’t yet have my high school diploma. Still preparing to write the exams in June 2019. Please help me what am I gonna do in this case?
October 12, 2018 at 20:52
Well if you don’t meet the requirements they won’t approve you. So – they might put you on AP until you are qualified – I don’t know for sure.
October 13, 2018 at 10:07
Roosvelt am not qualify to advice but based on the experience of a friend , he went to interview at Dakar in 2008 he was in the same statut , he told then he will attend the examination after month if they can allow him to bring it after passing the exam and they told him yes he can go and return with the diploma, but unfortunatly generally africans like to provide fake document that’s why now it becoming harder for being approved. He failed exam and provid a fake high school diploma and they rejected him.

Hello, Thank you for your website. I entered the dv lottery but now I wish to cancel my entry. How do I go about cancelling my application? I am no longer interested in applying and would like to pull the application prior to the results. Thank you

October 13, 2018 at 02:25
Hello my dear, receive a warm greeting I am writing for the following and I am very worried, mypartner is winner dv 2019 he has his passport to expire in January therefore he has not sent his form ds 260 and the ticket has already left, his number case is 2xx, my partner mistakenly added me as a derivative although we are not legally married yet, the group of advisers that he hired told him that for that mistake we will be disqualified, when he registered in the lottery for the first time he placed as single, Now filling the ds I wanted to advance my return and put me as a derivative even without being married, we will get married next month before sending the form ds260 to the kcc to be able to add the date of our marriage certificate that would be next month, Is there any way to explain to the Kcc that I added as a derivative to advance the DS260? Or we are really disqualified, I will be waiting for your help. He recommends me since he can not eliminate me as a derivative since the system of the ds260 form does not allow him to have his form unlocked since he is expecting two things the first his renewed passport and the second for our marriage.
October 13, 2018 at 04:38
Get married, then submit the DS260.

Hi Brit, we have 4 children with my girl-friend now, but no marriage certificate with her yet. Should i indicate my status as ” single” or “married” while applying to dv 2019?
October 13, 2018 at 19:53
Single, but make sure you list the children.
October 14, 2018 at 12:37
Many thanks for your kind feedback. Sorry, i ment “while applying to dv 2020. And what if I indicate in Entry Form “married” and in case of win officially get marriage certificate before submitting DS260? In this case the marriage certificate will be dated after submitting Entry Form. This situation will not get me disqualified during interview? “while applying to dv 2020”.
October 14, 2018 at 15:12
Just give an accurate truthful answer as of the day you enter the lottery!
October 13, 2018 at 15:48
Hello Simon
My passport’s date of birth is different from my birth certificate. The day and the year being the same, the difference is in the month(May instead of march). I’m hesitant about changing my passport because I entered the original form and the ds260 according to the passport. (Knowing that my previous passport’s birthday was correct and they made a mistake when they renewed my passport). Should I go to the interview holding my previous passport (correct birthday) and current(wrong birthday) passport explaining it was a mistake? Or shall I change the passport according to the birth certificate and re fill the ds260 according to the new passport which will match the birth certificate but will differ from the original entry?
October 13, 2018 at 19:54
These two documents need to match. Get the documents corrected.
October 17, 2018 at 07:47
Just to be clear, which document and wouldn’t it cause a problem because it’ll differ from my original entry?
October 17, 2018 at 13:50
The passport and birth cert are two important documents and should match. In countries where standards of documentation is decent, the birth cert is needed to get a passport, so the mistake would be corrected by trusting the birth cert. Having good documents is more important than the accuracy of the original entry. However, if you come from a country where documents are not trustable – you can decide how to handle that to be more “trustable” by the CO.

Hi sir,
I arrived yestrday in NY to activate my Diversity visa and then return back to the US permanently.
At the airport, the airport officer made a stamp next to the visa(on my passport). The stamp says only admitted and has only my A number. Is this okay? Will they send the GC and SSN to my US address?because I think other GC winners said that next to the stamp the airport officer wrote something.
I appreciate your help because it worries me.
Thank you.
October 13, 2018 at 20:08
Nothing to worry about.
October 13, 2018 at 19:31
Hi Sir
If we look on the visa issued during the last 10 years we will observe that the minimum visas issued were around 6439, in 2012, is this a positive indicator that the case numbers less than 2019AS00006440 will be at least interview.?
October 13, 2018 at 20:09

Hi Brit,
First of all, I would like to thank you for all the help and information you offer through your website and FB.
I was a winner of the 2018 DV lottery last year but unfortunately my case number was too high and was never called. Now I am in the process of applying for adjustment of status through marriage, and when filling the I-485 the ask “Have you ever applied for an immigrant visa to obtain permanent resident status at a U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate abroad?” and if case that I answer yes, they ask about the decision (approved, refused, denied, withdrawn) and its date.
I did fill out the DS-260 while I was waiting for my number to be called, but I was already in the U.S. so I initially filled for adjustment of status. However, after being inform that that process is much slower than Consular Processing, I requested KCC to change my interview location to Madrid, Spain, although they never actually change the information if my DS-260.
So I am inclined to answer “no” but I am not 100% sure. Also, if I reply yes, what would it be the decision and its date?
I would appreciate any insight you may have on this matter.
Best,
O
