Hello M. Brit,
Please help me. I won the DV lottery of 2019 but I already sent my AOS petition since June 2018 which is really early and my case number should not become current until February/March 2019. The lockbox accepted my application and I did my biometrics since July 2018. It’s when I received my 2NL last month that I knew that I made a terrible mistake of filing my petition before my case number become current. I did not pay the DV lottery fees yet. So according to you, will my case be denied? If yes, can I withdraw my case and reapply when my case number will become current or what can I do this if it can be fixed, please.
Thank you,
December 7, 2018 at 18:32
Yes the case will be denied for early filing. You need to fix it and apply at the correct time. I am not an AOS expert – so I suggest you ask in the thread below as “Sm1smom” is the expert on DV AOS.

Hello Brit,
I have just gained a second citizenship through naturalisation which obviously I didn’t add at first in my DS-260 as at that moment I only had my birth citizenship.
My questions are:
1) Should I unlock my DS-260 and add this new citizenship or can I just inform this to the CO or the embassy once I receive the 2NL or at the moment of the interview?
2) Could it be a problem not updating the information before the interview?
3) If I unlock my DS-260 and update the information before being scheduled, would this cause a delay in our case?
Thanks in advance for your help! I really appreciate.

December 8, 2018 at 15:38
Hello Brit
Am Godwin from Ghana and my questions are
1. Can the CO keeps your original documents ( degree and diploma) after asking you to go and bring your high school certificate and medical report
2. My high school certificate is missing. Pls can this cause my denial because I applied using my job experience
December 8, 2018 at 15:54
1. That is why you take copies to the interview. You show the original and leave copies.
2. Well it depends whether your experience meets the requirement or not.
December 8, 2018 at 16:17

December 8, 2018 at 17:35
Hello brit
I had an working experience of 5 years but currently I am unemployed for almost one and half year. I left my job to apply for further studies in USA but found out I won dv 2019. So I rested the plan and go ahead with DV processing.
So my query is will I have any issue with the fact that I am unemployed during my visa interview??
December 8, 2018 at 20:57
No
December 8, 2018 at 17:35
Dear Brit,
In the previous comments, I have seen that up to AS58XX they have asked to submit the documents. In my country taking police certificate would take time (around one month), my case number is AS8XXX. I think i have to apply for the PC immediately since the number they have asked for the documents is around AS58XX. And also noted that the PC will be expired with in 6 months.
Brit, as per your experience what do you say,
1. Can I apply the PC immediately? or
2. Can I wait 1 or 2 months later?
3. Tell me the actual validity period for police certificate??
December 8, 2018 at 20:59
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Varies by country, but 6 months is a rough timeline.
December 8, 2018 at 18:36
Good day Mr.Brit. I’m going to ask a question about the mailing address for sending green card. Since I don’t have any friends/relatives in the USA can I use my pen pals friend’s adress?
December 8, 2018 at 21:03
Yes
December 8, 2018 at 19:06

December 8, 2018 at 21:02
You can, but since you will be abroad from June, that could conflict with your interview.

hello brit in fact I have problem.i went to make my medical visit then at the result I am given the sealed envelope and a CD with a file that I must present at the embassy. according to my research we just put back the envelope sealed during the exam and it is at the embassy to give me the CD.I want to know if it is not a problem the day of the interview as I give the documents separately instead of all put in the envelope and sealed ??

December 9, 2018 at 09:08
I am Chamil From Srilanka,
1 – In srilanka police clearance certificate they list down the permanent address we live in Srilanka. ( they will add only the address which we can prove by legal document)
2 – In DV 260 we have to add all the address we lived including both temporary and permeant ( temporary mean we don’t have any legal record to prove that we live in this address).
In above case there is a miss match address in DS260 and police clearance certificate ( DS 260 has extra address than police clearance certificate)
Will it be an issue ?
If so what should I do ? should I eliminate all the temporary address in DS260.
December 9, 2018 at 15:13
No problem. Leave it as is.
December 9, 2018 at 11:07

December 9, 2018 at 11:19
Hello Brit.I have filled out the form since October 5th and on November 2nd I received a message from KCC informing me to submit my documents but on November 12th I unlocked the DS260 and after correcting the error, I submitted it and on November 20 I sent my documents (birth certificates and others). Question: Will KCC send me a message informing me they have finished processing my documents. my case number is 2019AF6xxx, have the chance to be in the February group for the interview
December 9, 2018 at 15:14
THey probably won’t send an email about processing.
You might be scheduled in February.

2) In my Ds 260 form I selected that I need SSN. Is that necessary having gone to their office now or they will mail it in the addres?
Thank you

2. They will mail it.

Hi Brit. My case number is 2019OC08XX. I have been asked by the Kentucky Consular Center to provide further information i.e.Birth Certificate, Passport Biodata Page, Police Certificate. I did this. Do I have a chance at getting a visa interview with this high OC number.
December 10, 2018 at 14:17
Yes. It isn’t that high.
December 10, 2018 at 06:17
Hi Simon,
We are DV winners 2018 based in London. Our GC was activated during our last trip back in May. We are hoping to be ready to move in the US by May 2019. However, as much as we are doing everything possible to leave asap, are we still allowed to come back after that 12 months or is it risky?
Thank you
December 10, 2018 at 14:18
Risky.

December 11, 2018 at 06:26
Hello Brit,
i won the DV 2019 lottery and i filled out and sent the DS 260 form few months ago. But i found two mistakes:
1) I have changed my father’s name one year ago legally and have all the documents and my degree and previous education documents are by my old / previous father’s name, so when i fill the DS 260 form, i said no to the question “have you ever used other names?”
2) And when i filled the year to the date i joined the university, i mistakenly added one extra year to it. it should be year of entry – 2010 but i submitted year of entry as – 2011.
My interview is going to be around May or June (26xxx) , so what should i do?
December 11, 2018 at 12:45
Unlock and correct the DS260.
December 11, 2018 at 07:34

Hi brit i am from Ethiopia the officer told your visa is approved but until now i don’t pick up visa is there any reason to fail, and how many maximum days i can wait?
December 11, 2018 at 12:52
It normally takes a couple of weeks, but sometimes cases need additional time for AP which can last months.
December 11, 2018 at 13:13
Is there any reason to fail
December 11, 2018 at 14:15
I don’t know the specifics of your case.

Hello,
My case number is EU201912XXX. When I submitted ds 260 form I was legally in the US (for a year, and got ssn) so US adress was my present adress at the time when I filled out my ds form. Then I moved back to Europe. Should I unlock my ds and change the adress ? (they have also the adress from europe on the second position) . if I unclock ds 260 then my interview probably will be delayed few months, or can I just say at the interview that my adress has changed because I don’t live in US anymore because my visa expired ? (they should have it in the system; the date when my visa expired and the day when I left the US by plane ).
December 11, 2018 at 12:54
You must unlock and update the address, then email KCC and make sure they schedule you at the appropriate embassy.
December 11, 2018 at 14:03

Hi Simon, is there anywhere other than Ceac to check the status of a case post interview? Ceac doesn’t seem to be working yet-do we just wait until they contact us to collect our passports? Thanks
December 11, 2018 at 15:01
CEAC won’t show DV2019 case status until January 1.
In the meantime, patience is, as always, the best answer.
December 11, 2018 at 14:43
Hallo Brit, we recently got our passports with the visas and are flying to LA this week already! 🙂
Just wanted to say THABK YOU for the work that you do, this portal have been an enormous source of help, an oasis within a desert of misleading and confusing information on the web!!
Best regards from very grateful dv lottery winners 🙂
December 11, 2018 at 15:00
Well thank you for taking the time to say thanks!!! Best of luck.

December 11, 2018 at 17:53
Hello, my family and i are preparing the civil documents for uploading them at CEAC system. We have a family based application. We are from Albania and we have obtained the police certificate from our country. But i have lived for 4 month in Iceland and now the system is requesting the police certificate from there. But i can’t take this certificate from Iceland because i didn’t have a social security number there and i got official response from police and immigration in Iceland that they can’t give me this certificate without ssn. I wrote at the US embassy page that if a document is not available for any reason you should select the ‘not available’ option and explain the reason why. My question is : The explanation has to be given in any box shown by the system or i have to make a written statement and explain why i can’t get this document? Do you think this will cause me other problems? Hope i will get an answer from you. Thank you.
December 11, 2018 at 18:33
You mail documents to KCC, not uploaded.
Yes if you cannot provide a police cert or something like that, provide a written explanation as to why that is.
December 11, 2018 at 18:43
Hi Simon,
I passed my green card interview at Armenia, and embassy issued visa for me.
I will enter to USA after two days. Just realized that I have to pay USCIS Immigrant
Fee online using Alien Registration Number e.g. A012345678 and DOS case ID.
But the problem is that the “congratulation” paper I got from embassy which have lines to contain those numbers are blanked.
I do not have idea what is my Alien Registration and DOS case ID numbers.
Is this and issue and how I should proceed to exclude any problem on border?
Please help!
Thanks in advance!
Emil
December 11, 2018 at 18:53
Your alien number is on your visa, and your case ID is the DV lottery case number.
You can pay in advance or pay once you have entered.
December 11, 2018 at 19:25
Thanks Simon for prompt reply.
I just check that on the VISA I have ‘
1. “IV Case Number” which is similar to DV lottery case number but not exactly the same. Is this my case number that I need to use moving forward?
2. “Registration Number ” with just 8 digits without starting letter “A”. Do I need to add l letter A at the beginning of this 8 digits number when I submit emigrant payment fee?
Thanks a lot.
December 11, 2018 at 19:42
1. It should be the case number, perhaps with 01 on the end for principal, 02 for the spouse. Anyway – that is the correct number.
2. Yes. That is your alien number.
December 11, 2018 at 21:34
Hello
Given the fact that the Travel ban law, prohibits Iranian entry to the United States, there are ones who prepared their Waiver and brought with themselves for interview. I wanted to ask you if their luck would go up with their waiver program?
December 12, 2018 at 00:01
I have not heard about any successful waiver applications.
December 11, 2018 at 23:46
hi brit,
I know you’re going to tell me to wait but I still have 2 questions to you:
my case number is 2019AF106xx
and I’m waiting for the second letter.
1- if I consult ESC site two to three times a day its problematic?
3- Will the second letter arrive at any time or should I wait for the next visa-bulletin and send it the second letter of February?
Thank you very much.
December 12, 2018 at 07:10
1. checking the ESC site 10 times a day will not change your situation
2. the 2nl will come at any time, since you are current probably for february.
December 12, 2018 at 01:30
Dear sir
It was more than 60 days of ap.
Does their 60 means working days?
If they didn’t decide in 60 ,this will last for year?
Thnx
December 12, 2018 at 03:24
60 days is not a maximum. It can last longer, some cases have taken nearly a year.
December 12, 2018 at 01:52
Hey Simon, Quick question, I have already filled a reentry permit request, but I moved to a different state, what should I do to get an biometrics appointment in the current state that Im living in?
December 12, 2018 at 03:24
I don’t know. Call uscis.
December 12, 2018 at 02:46
Hi Brit,
I have filled up DS-260 using my husband’s old passport. He is about to renew and get a new passport, so his passport number will change.
1. Is it OK if I apply for a police certificate and medicals with his new passport?
2. Can I just use his old passport to apply for the required documents and scan both his old and new passport to KCC? Or I should correct his DS-260 to update his new passport details?
December 12, 2018 at 03:26
1. I dont know. It depends on procedures in your country.
2. You could upload both.
December 12, 2018 at 03:31
THank you!
December 12, 2018 at 05:39
Hi Mr. first of all God bless you i am the 2018 DV winner i live in USA now and i got my green card, so after how many years i will get my citizenship.
Thanks
December 12, 2018 at 17:25
You can apply after 5 years.
December 12, 2018 at 09:27
Salam Brit,
DV2019 winner principal applicant.
Question: in confirm page I.ve mentioned my own adress and for my husband accompany same address.
But in our local pass husbands address is in other town.
If confirm.page data and ds260 address match can we relax wait or?
December 12, 2018 at 17:27
That would not normally be a problem.
December 12, 2018 at 10:28
Good Morning Sir,
I won dv2019 with my husband and son but he(huband) passed way before the result. Then I filled out the form ds260. Recently I regot married , m question is will reopen my forms and change my status marital because while filling I mentionned widowed?
Kindly
December 12, 2018 at 17:29
Yes, unlock and correct. You will submit your status as married in the DS260, and if you want your husband tio emigrate you need to add a DS260 for him. You will be expected to prove the legal marriage to the new husband along with the death certificate of the previous husband.
December 13, 2018 at 19:19
Sir,
My husband has already kids with previous marriage should I list them in my form ds 260 also even if they won’t immigrate with us now?
December 13, 2018 at 22:33
Yes – they are your step children.
December 14, 2018 at 08:27
thank you.
So in his form he will add my son there also
December 15, 2018 at 09:04
thank you.
So in his form he will add my son there also?
December 15, 2018 at 15:01
Yes
December 16, 2018 at 19:24
Sir,
I read somewhere adding a pre-existing children after original entry ground for disqualification.
Now regarding my case the kids I added won’t cause any problems because I added my new husband kids which weren’t in my original entry?
December 16, 2018 at 20:15
Because you were not married then. Right?
December 17, 2018 at 00:02
to clarify I entered the lottery with my husband and son, before the result my husband passed away, so after submitting the forms (my son and I) recently I regot married from a divorce guy which already has 3 kids, we are not going together right now coz of financial problem in case we passed interview .I am just wondering if adding those children won’t disqualify us at the interview because not in the original entry
December 17, 2018 at 02:38
I have answered this already!!!
December 12, 2018 at 12:14

Hi Brit, I have a question.
My sponsor live in New Yort but I intend to live in Washington, Is that a problem ? or Should I say that I intend to live in New York and then change my adress at the custom ?
thank you very much in advance
December 12, 2018 at 15:49
Hi Simon, My number is AS90xx. I am planing to pay the $330 fee for adjustment of status. Do you think my number is safe?.
December 12, 2018 at 17:34
I can’t predict the future. If the travel ban stays in force, yes, if not – it would be somewhat risky.
December 12, 2018 at 17:52
Hi Simon
Do you know if we can make an appeal and where if we got disqualified on the interview due to an error that we made for a birth place in the dv entry application not in the ds-260.
Thank you.
December 12, 2018 at 22:24
What do you mean by an incorrect birth place. Do you mean you entered a country which is in a different region?
December 12, 2018 at 22:45
We put the country that we were presently living in as a birth place country(even though the birth town was correct) by honest mistake. We weren’t even aware of that error prior the interview thus the surprise why we didnt got disqualified immediately after filling the ds260, why bother us till the end if they notice that error earlier.
Both country named are eligible anyway.
December 13, 2018 at 00:26
1. It is not up to them to notice your mistakes. You might have had reason to claim the “wrong” place of birth – how would they know?
2. Both countries might be eligible, but the rules state that errors like this can ONLY be forgiven IF you did not get a benefit by the mistake. I don’t know because you have not been clear about the countries involved.
3. There is no formal appeal process. You have your chance, the CO adjudicates it. You made a mistake as you say – but how can they know whether it was an honest mistake or not? I’m not really understanding why you think they should reconsider your case.
