Hello Mr Simon
2019-AS 8000-Afghanistan
Yesterday I received email form KCC, they ask me to submit below documents:
1-Passport
2-Birth certificate
3-Police certificate
So my question is. should I submit our family education document, marriage certificate and etc..?
About birth certificate; my wife and I do not have right now. during war in Afghanistan that burnt, do you have any instruction for me about the issue?
I read about police certificate that is not necessary to submit for Afghanistan people.
Thanks in advance
February 13, 2019 at 16:49
Send what they asked for – just that.
Regarding police certs and birth cert – read the reciprocity page as it has your answers.
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/Afghanistan.html

Walid , i am AS8### from Afghanistan. Send your Tazkira instead of birth certificate as mentioned in Reciprocity page. I am also asked to send those documets but i dont know if i should send the translations too since the email says translations are required if docs are not in English or official language of the county so we dont need to send the translations. But the Reciprocity page says Tazkiras are required to be translated. Stay in touch since our CS numbers are so close.
February 15, 2019 at 22:37
Walid jan,
I am 2019AS6xxx from Afghanistan. I was asked the same thing last month. Yes Afghans are not required to send police certificate due to its unreliability, but you have to provide that if you have lived abroad. As for birth certificate you have to present the translation of your tazkera stamped by ministry of forign affairs. That will do.

Hi Brit , I played along with my kid as single because her father is not alive. Do I need to present his death certificate at the interview? Jeroline k Nuah from Liberia case number 2019AF18xxx
February 13, 2019 at 17:34
Yes you should have that available.
February 13, 2019 at 18:58
Hi simon, my case number is AF30### thanks for the patience you take to respond to all our questions. Please I have a question to ask. I submitted my DS 260 form in November and now I just found out I am pregnant. I don’t know if I have to include that on my DS 260 form or just inform them whenever I get the chance for an interview. I will also love to know if it can get me disqualified. Thanks
February 13, 2019 at 19:07
Being pregnant does not require any change to the form, but depending on timing you may need to unlock and add the child later. Read the FAQ about adding the baby.
February 13, 2019 at 20:19
Hi Brit is my case number current 2019AF18xxx
February 13, 2019 at 20:36
No. Read the FAQ to understand how to know when you are current.
February 13, 2019 at 23:56
hi dear simon
i am sadly writing this
today i face to the interview in colombo, embassy,,i have followed your every instructions and i posted many questions on your wall.
my wife is the applicant.i am bsc enginner and i have many qualifications other than requested by diversity visa.my wife applied with her employment qualifications.she is a company director and a company board member also the operation director of our company.operation director is a qualified ocupation.
i have many questions.
in the interview
1.we cant submit our every documents .then we cant present our ocupation.they decided our ocupation and interviewd as they think.
2.we could submit our company registration only..but i prepared every documents as your guidence for employment qualifications.
3.,they gave two A4 sheets and told to write her duties and works as a employee
4.then one srilankan officer told any one of us wirte that, then i wrote her duties and works in english and submitted .
5 after other srilankan tamil lady officer teared it and told to my wife that you should wite it and if you cant write in english then write in srilankan lanuage..then she wrote her dutis and works in srilankan language and submitted..
6. interview started, officer questioned her more than one hour, total time 4 hours in the embassy.
7.finally he gave us a refusal notice.
8.refusal notice say that you have to complete your professional qualifications within one year to proceed the visa application
what shall i do
February 14, 2019 at 00:08
Your qualifications are irrelevant – the question is about her qualifications. Simply being a company director doesn’t qualify a person. The question is whether that occupation actually matches a real working occupation as described in O*Net. That is why they asked her to write down her daily duties, and presumably they decided that it did not reach the standard required.
However, far simpler than that would have been to show she had met the education requirements.
February 14, 2019 at 05:44
hi brit i want to know that can i request for a reconsideration because refusal notice says complete your qualification within one year.
other thing any other wavier grounds.as a derivatives are there any way to appeal.because i have the required qualifications.
even through a immigration lawyer in usa.
February 14, 2019 at 06:02
I can’t understand how you spent time on my blog and never realized that she needed to meet the requirements for education.
Your education is (and always has been) irrelevant in this process. There is no waiver available, and no appeal process. However, if you feel she actually performs a job that qualifies her – you ca try and show that as they have said.
February 14, 2019 at 01:32
Manjula i am also sri lankan winner. Why your wife is applied with employment qualifications? Is your wife passed the AL ? You can prove your AL then it will ok.
February 14, 2019 at 03:27
sajinda, did you go for the interview? im also sl winner, but not current yet
February 14, 2019 at 11:20
Gingz what is your case no range ? Did you get the email about document submit?
February 14, 2019 at 12:03
Yes I received. Case no in 6000 range. wats yours
February 14, 2019 at 05:33
sajinda she dont have AL .i have a bsc engineering degree but they dont ask and see any of my qualification.also i dont have a chance to talk with co.only interview the applicant.
February 14, 2019 at 05:44
It seems that CMB embassy is so tough .so sad to hear that Manjula. even we are scared now.
February 14, 2019 at 06:02
This is perfectly normal for any embassy.
February 14, 2019 at 06:46
gingz dont scared.if you have Al,sponsor, medical, police certificate and other required documentations then it is easy.problem is if you go with work qualifications.
February 14, 2019 at 11:34
Manjula what is the minimum educational reqrequirements ?
February 15, 2019 at 11:43
sajinda 3 pass subjects of advanced level exam
February 15, 2019 at 09:45
yes even i thought the same. People with only A/Ls (no job qualifications ) also been through this process and recived visa
February 15, 2019 at 09:58
even without A/Ls (if you have job qualifications ) theres no issue . Its so sad to hear that they rejected you guys.
February 20, 2019 at 07:53
yes,but the problem they have requested only 2 year work or training experience.actually she have a job that they requested.i can prove legally also that job satisfy the requirements.
but we cant argue or do something.only co’s decision.he is the god in this interview.
February 20, 2019 at 14:13
That is not really the point. She is an operations director for your family business – correct? She was questioned for an hour and could not satisfy the CO that she actually performed the REAL JOB that matched her title. Just having the title or proving that she has that title “legally” is completely missing the point.
February 14, 2019 at 06:42
Hi sir i am from egypt and My wife’s DV application got selected in DV Lottery 2019 as a principle applicant where me and sons are as accompany members. We’re only four members. We have done a mistake while submitting detail about our son’s info in DV form. We mistakenly filled wrong City in birth place field ( we fill another city inside egypt ) but country of birth is correct (egypt). And correct this mistake in Ds260 form . Is that will leading disqualified at interview
February 14, 2019 at 14:40
No
February 15, 2019 at 12:10
Thanks sir , is that mean the counselor will not reject my case because my sons real city of birth is different of city of birth in dv form
February 15, 2019 at 14:48
Correct
February 14, 2019 at 13:21
Hi Britt,
we already finished our interview and the visa officer said our visa approved at the interview.
But as I see my visa status, it shows administrative processing. what does it mean please?
sam
February 14, 2019 at 13:30
Dear Sam,
I hop it means lack of some documents .
Sometimes, they may show you how to submit them .
I hope according to dv procedures, that is what it means .
If i’m wrong , Big BRIT will correct that.
You should read the faq about dv process.
February 14, 2019 at 14:43
If you had read the FAQ you would have read this:

February 14, 2019 at 17:09
Hello Brit,
Can i unlock ds260 to make changes after sending further documents to kcc? or I will have to send the documents again after ulocking?
February 14, 2019 at 17:12
It depends on the changes, but most likely your documents would not require updates.
February 14, 2019 at 17:31
Hi Simon,
I hope you keeping well. I am the principal applicant and when I fill the forms I- 485 and G-325, should I fill separate forms for me and my spouse?.
Thanks for your quick response for all these questions.
February 14, 2019 at 19:29
All instructions for AOS are here:
https://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2019-aos-only.337772/
February 14, 2019 at 18:19
like for real? it is 14th already, they havent posted it out. Hahaha
February 14, 2019 at 20:09
I was wondering how long it would take someone to comment on the visa bulletin … yes it is the 14th, so that means they still have another day, as with every month the timeframe is somewhere between the 8th and the 15th.
Patience my friend
February 14, 2019 at 20:18
Agreed. It has been strangely quiet.
Could it be that people are actually listening???
Nah!
February 14, 2019 at 18:41
Dear brit,
I had an interview today with my wife and daughter.we have filled ds260 for all of us at the same time and have confirmation.but,at the interview, the co says that they can not see my doughter application due to unknown problem and asked me to handover the ds260 confirmation which i do and they said that they will call us someday to have our fingerprints again.but the co says u are approved congrats
Question-
1-is it a common prolem?
2-will it affect our visa approval? How many days will these take?
February 14, 2019 at 19:31
1. I don’t know how common that is, but I have heard similar stories before.
2. I don’t know.
February 14, 2019 at 18:53
Dear Brit, my daughter given name is Firstfruit but in the passport they write first fruit with a space, but in the ds260 it’s firstfruit, so what can we do please? Thx
February 14, 2019 at 19:31
So the Passport is incorrect? In that case you need to correct the passport.
February 14, 2019 at 19:03
Hi Brit,
My case number is 2019AS000046xx. Currently I am in USA under H-1B visa (valid till year 2021) and applying for AOS for me, my spouse and child.
I found your website recently. I was planning to file on March 01, 2019, as per the visa bulletin. And before finding your web site, I did not know about the early filing policy. So, it seems unfortunately we have missed the opportunity to file early.
Now we are working on getting the medical exams and we are planning to file I-485 before 01-March-2019, once we have medical test results.
I have few questions.
1) Given my case number 2019AS000046xx and filing date (by 01-Mar-2019), is it usually feasible to get green card before 30-Sep-2019 deadline?
2) Is it necessary to file I-131 (Application For Travel Document) and I-765 (Application For Employment Authorization) with I-485, given that I have valid H-1B work visa till year 2021?
3) If we do not file I-131 and I-765 with I-485, will that reduce the processing time?
4) Are there any ways to expedite the AOS process?
Thank you very much!
February 14, 2019 at 19:33
1. Yes
2. Instructions here: https://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2019-aos-only.337772/
3. See 2.
4. DV cases are already expedited compared to other application types. Read the link I gave you and follow the steps in the spreadsheet linked from the first post in that thread.
February 15, 2019 at 02:58
Hi Brit,
Thanks a lot for your quick response!
I went through the instructions you shared. It is well structured and very useful. We did not know about the advantage of submitting DS-260 and haven’t done so. I hope it is too late now, given my case number is 2019AS000046xx.
However we sent the payments to the Department of State as per the instructions in https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/diversity-visa-program-entry/adjustment-of-status-fee-payment.html.
With the money orders for all family members, we also sent DV Program Case Number, Name, Address as instructed in above link, in a printed paper with a self stamped self addressed envelope.
I have 2 questions on that.
1) After about 2-3 weeks, we received the self stamped self addressed envelope. It had the same printed paper which I sent to them with my DV case number etc. There was no separate receipt in it. Instead there was a stamp on the paper (which I sent to them) saying “Paid”.
Can we consider above “Paid” stamp mark on the paper I sent, as a valid receipt?
2) After few days, I received an email from [email protected] with the subject “2019AS000046xx Diversity Visa Adjustment Letter” saying “Thank you for informing us that you plan to apply for adjustment of status with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)”.
Please note that I did not file DS-260 to notify KCC. Does that mean Department of State has accepted my payment and KCC has being notified automatically?
February 15, 2019 at 03:02
1. Yes.
2. It is better to file a DS260 (but optional).
February 15, 2019 at 06:47
…if someone gets the 2 letter, is it sure it will end up with the interview or not? I take into account that the kcc / nvc still do a certain calculation otherwise why would they collect scanned documents if they know that the vizas will be limited () at some point…sorry if anyone else asked…
February 15, 2019 at 14:39
The 2NL is an interview notification. It is VERY rare (but technically possible) for them to cancel the interview after sending the 2NL because visas have run out.
February 15, 2019 at 09:53
Dear Brit,
my case number is as11xxx am i having a chance? Please reply me
February 15, 2019 at 14:42
Yes
February 15, 2019 at 10:15
Hello Simon Do they usually call you back to the embassy just to return your passport if you are denied even after a successful interview? How do they return passports in such a case?
February 15, 2019 at 14:43
It varies by embassy.
February 15, 2019 at 10:47

Hi Brit,
It has just occurred to me that my passport is expiring early next year and I was thinking of renewing before I submit these documents to the KCC. Q1) I just wanted to ask if I will have to re-open my DS260 form to put in this new information? Q2) Will this slow down the overall process? Q3) What would you advise I do?
February 15, 2019 at 14:50
1. You can do that, or just take new and old passports to the interview.
2. No
3. Either way is fine.
February 15, 2019 at 14:57
Thank you so much.

1)For those that won,do they still have to select or is it base only on case number?
2)What is the difference between case number and selectees number.
Thanks

What my case number?
February 15, 2019 at 18:55
Hello Brit,
Is Iran free from travel ban? In except category only nepal shown. please explain please
February 15, 2019 at 18:57
Iran numbers now are within the Asia number. The travel ban continues, so there is no need to slow down the Iran interviews as most people will not attend the interview (since it is almost pointless during the ban).
February 15, 2019 at 19:43
I filled DS 260 without passport ,at that time I have no passport .but I now have passport .I want to send my passport when I submit documents.
Is this make any problem ?

Hi Brit,
I have sent a mail to kcc for my Ds-260 unlock 6days ago but they didn’t response my mail.I have to add my spouse in my Ds-260, I have got married recently. Now my visa bulletin has update today. Now the question is that does kcc unlock my ds260 or not. from where I have to add my spouse.
February 16, 2019 at 04:36
You still need to have your form unlocked, so try again.
Once unlocked you use the add applicant feature.
February 16, 2019 at 10:08
I sent them a unlock request of my Ds260, why they didn’t respons my mail, is it possible to add my spouse from kcc after visa bulletin released. I have got my visa bulletin released yesterday and hope that my case is scheduled for interview last of this moth. Please give me a best suggestion
February 16, 2019 at 15:10
As I already said. Try again.
February 17, 2019 at 07:18
May I have to submit my marriage certificate, passport and Birth certificate along with Ds-260 unlock mail.
February 17, 2019 at 07:29
No
February 16, 2019 at 05:52
Shiva,
I did send the unlock request yesterday and kcc unlocked my ds260 form within 12hrs of which I have amended and re submitted. Did you provide case number, names and date of birth with the inquiry? they might be unable to process your request if you don’t provide some of these or maybe the information provided is inaccurate.
February 16, 2019 at 05:18
Hello Brit,
My DV case number is 2019AS000048xx and it becomes current in March. Currently I work in USA under H-1B visa.
Recently I read your article on hiring a lawyer.
https://britsimonsays.com/ok-won-lottery-hire-lawyer/
But it is too late for me now, because before reading above article my employer encouraged me to use a lawyer to file I-485. So I have already used a lawyer’s service to prepare I-485 and paid for it :-(.
As you have correctly mentioned in your article having a lawyer was not helpful. That lawyer has many experiences on filling employment based green cards, but it seems they are new to DV based green cards. Also they didn’t know about early filling.
Now I am really worried about using a lawyer and thinking they might make a mistake. I am worried they might file it with general assumptions they have in employment based green card.
1) Do you have any advise on how can I make sure that lawyer will file I-485 properly?
2) Or should I forget about the lawyer ( and fee I made) and file it my self to reduce the risk?
February 16, 2019 at 06:12
1. Check everything against the definitive resource for DV based AOS. Spreadsheet linked from post 1 of this thread:
https://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2019-aos-only.337772/
2. Your choice.
February 16, 2019 at 05:30
I’m a seamstress…I’ve been seeing for three years now. I have my sewing certificate..can I qualify for this lottery?
February 16, 2019 at 06:14
Not based on your work, no.
February 16, 2019 at 08:09
brit i forget the password of my old G mail account this old g mail used for ds 260 form it’s possible to send my document to kcc by new created G mail account
February 16, 2019 at 08:52
It’s possible because I sent from my personal Gmail in behalf of my mother but they always reply TO THE MAIN APPLICANT EMAIL so don’t expect any official reply to the email you used to send documents (you will get the normal auto reply, only that)
Try to gain access to the original applicant email because they send any important email to that address only. For example, if your documents are wrong or missing, they will notify to the original email only and without access you might never know about this, the same goes when they accepted the documents and DS260 was processed, all is good but you might never know this because you don’t have access to the main selectee’s email.
🙂
February 16, 2019 at 15:08
Yes
February 16, 2019 at 11:45
Hi Simon I am from Ethiopia my wife and me already got a visa because of DV.I am the applicant and she is the beneficiary so can she enter USA before me?(since I want to stay here for some months). I read that “the applicant must enter before or at the same time with the family member”.
February 16, 2019 at 15:13
You already have the answer – why why ask?
February 16, 2019 at 12:51
Hello
is it for all that visa bulletin in April and they will give interview in May. Then if that cases depending to visa bulletin they back up one month late.
February 16, 2019 at 15:15
I don’t understand your question.
February 16, 2019 at 18:12
I think, strangely i understand what you are trying to ask.
If lets say you go current with the visa bulletin uploaded in April you will be interviewed in June, because you will get the 2nl from the 15th of April till the end of April, and then you will have 1 month and some days to prepare for it.
February 16, 2019 at 15:25
Hello Brit,
My case number is 2019AF19xxx. when am I supposed to take the vaccination? Do I need to wait until I get 2NL? I am above 18 years old, and am I supposed to take all the listed on the website? I appreciate your kind response!
February 16, 2019 at 15:40
You arrange the medical once you get the 2NL.
February 16, 2019 at 17:04
Mr. Brit Simon,
Sir,
My case no. is AS11### & I’m confident & hope of receiving the e-mail from KCC within couple of months. Thanks to your visa bulletin statistics.
Well I’m a government appointed primary school teacher since 2008,
So I think this should be more than enough for a work experience.
We’re four (husband & 2 kids) I’ve some properties & cash in my husband’s business as well. We would be able to show cash around US $ 30k to 35k in total )
Should I need to keep this money for certain period of time in my bank account. like 3 to 6 months before the interview?
Further more my own sister who is currently living in the USA with her family & they were granted green cards (her husband had been granted asylum) When I filled the DS260, I did mention their address to send the green card ( if we’ll be granted) My sister is keen to help me but not with foam of i134
The problem is my sister’s husband couldn’t be able to fill out the i134 foam because of his low Income which doesn’t meet i134 requirements.
Do you think if they give any kind of letter in which mentioning no-objections to stay with them for a while, will this help my chances to obtain the dv visa?
or could you please advise me what kind of help that I could get from my sister if there is any.
thanks
February 16, 2019 at 17:22
The questions about financials vary by embassy and by case, but your savings might be enough. Yes you should show the savings over a period of time. The letter from your sister might help (it depends on the embassy).
February 16, 2019 at 17:34
Thanks Mr.Brit for your quick response.
My embassy will be Colombo, Sri Lanka
February 16, 2019 at 18:02
I don’t track how every embassy behaves – I am just making the point that they will decide according to their procedures, and it can vary by case.

February 16, 2019 at 18:32
HI
IT IS OK IF WE USE THE SAME PHOTO USED IN MEDICAL TEST IN THE INTERVIEW?
February 16, 2019 at 18:44
If it meets specifications, yes.
February 17, 2019 at 07:56
In my case it was a difference.
At the medical, they need passport size photos and at the interview it was 2″x2″. Therefore better u check both specifications.
I’m just sharing may experience. Thanks

Hi brits
After sending my documents to kcc, i found a mistake in the police certificate, the translator made 2018 instead of 2019
Now I have the correct one.
I did send only translated documents.
What should I do :
I can only resend the police certificate corrected or I have to resend all the documents originals & translated
Please help
Thanks

February 17, 2019 at 07:04
Ok Brit thanks for your quick reply .
I would also like you to clarify me:
1. how the case number becomes current into visa bulletin or according to my thought , let assume the recent visa bulletin was 18900 for AF region .is that means the case 2019AF18900 below are on a queue?
2.According to your observation , what could at least be the highest case number in AF region to be interview?
3. We have seen in some post the cut off of AF region was 48XXX . Is that means from 2019AF48XXX below this number will have chance for interview if the respond well to a new doc procedures ?
I will be glad to get your clarifications .
Thanks for helping us .
Be blessed.

Hello Mr Simon,
I have a question regarding the supporting documents. I was born in one of the Ex-Soviet republics and my birth certificate until now was old Soviet document. Now when I asked for the translation and legalization of the document (I am planing to have my interview in a different country), I was told i need to reissue a new birth certificate to be able to translate and legalize it in my country. And I just found that at the corner of the cert it’s written that it’s “issued repeatedly”. Same I guess will be about my school certificate (I have not received its translation/legalization yet as it also needed to be reissued since it was old Soviet one). So, my question is – can it be a problem as it is not the primary/original document?
Thanks in advance!
February 17, 2019 at 18:10
The “original” document needs to be an “official” document. That can be a reissued document, as long as it is issued by the correct authority.
February 18, 2019 at 06:51
The document is official issued by proper governmental authorities, just had that note indicating it was reissued, which made me wonder if it is what they accept. Thanks for your clarification.

Hallo brit,
If some one scheduled for the interview but on the ds forms he selected no on the question if your spouse and children will immigrate with you but now he changed his mind and wants to go all of them
can he take them to the interview and inform the consular that? Or he lost the chance
February 17, 2019 at 18:12
Some people love to make a simple process more difficult….
That someone should contact the embassy.
February 17, 2019 at 18:07
Hi Brit,
My case is current for April. I have submitted the required documents and i also received the email as Documents Received: “Records indicates that you have submitted all the required documentation to KCC” But the problem is that CEAC Stst Traker shows that my case in at NVC. Should i Ask KCC wats going on or It will be updated at teh end of the month.
February 17, 2019 at 18:14
You should exercise some patience and wait until the end of the month.
