Hi Brit. Could you go outside of us (home country)even without your green card? Or even your visa is expired? Can it be possible? Thx.
February 17, 2019 at 22:35
Yes – leaving is not a problem, but coming back will be more difficult.
February 17, 2019 at 22:39

Hey Mr Brit
1.I lost my confirmation number and I’ve used the forgot confirmation number link to no avail I’ve entered my name and other informations but it’s still not yielding. I even had to swap my three names with the six possible combinations, it still didn’t work out for me.
2. When I resubmitted my ds260 on 2 ocassions, a confirmation number was placed below me name and case number. It was AA0083EZVW. But it’s only 10 characters long. I don’t know if it’s part of the confirmation number or not. Please I need your touch on this.
February 18, 2019 at 15:10
1. I cannot do anything to retrieve your conf number.
2. That is not the conf number.
February 18, 2019 at 08:02
Child will age out (21 years old) in June 2019 (days already added with regard to CSPA calculation).Assume that Case Number becomes officially current in June, but due to unavailability of empty slots or busy embassy schedule, local embassy sets interview date in July, would child still be entitled to obtain green card ? Thank in advance
February 18, 2019 at 15:13
They should, but best answer is to contact KCC to make sure that doesn’t happen.
February 18, 2019 at 10:15

Hi Brit, we were put on AP. My husband and i had interview on the 5 and the CO said everything other thing is ok but we should bring medicals as soon as possible and gave us a pink sheet was indicated that we bring medicals. The physician failed to give us our medical records on time but gave us a sealed letter to take to interview. My questions are
1) the CO after reassuring us several times that “aside from absent medicals everything is ok” gave us all original docs with albums and mails but kept bank receipt transactions blw my husband and i since 2014, tenancy agreement, rent receipt which bore both our names and some other receipts. Could it be blc they want to do checks on them even after reassuring us that all is well or they just forgot to return those as my husband suggest?
2) interview was on the 5th n on the 6th my husbands status chanced to AP but mine remained on READY. is it a problem or its blc am derivative?
3) we submitted medicals they requested on the 13 and today when I check our status my own is updated on the 13 but still on READY and my husband’s own has not been updated since the 6th and is still on AP. Is there a problem or its normal?
4) any advice please?
Thanks God bless u
February 18, 2019 at 17:57
1. They may want to do more checks. That is common.
2. It is not a problem.
3. Normal.
4. Relax. Be patient.
February 18, 2019 at 19:03

Hello Brit,

2.If we take the visa, can my son(derivative) go to anther country for study reason before we enter US first?
Thanks in advance!
February 18, 2019 at 19:35
1. Your choice.
2. Yes, but he should enter the USA before the visa expires AND comply with the rules about absence (described in the FAQ).
February 18, 2019 at 19:41
Thanks for your reply.
February 18, 2019 at 19:52
Dear Brit,
We received our appointment for the interview at the embassy. They sent us now an email to register our appointment. We have two questions here:
1. Should we choose for the first option where stays: …Register a visa inmigrant appointment
2. They asked as for DS-260 number. What is this? Is this the number that the main applicant received when submitting his DS-260? his (my husband’s) starts with AA….. We can’t find anywhere a number that says DS-260 number.
Thank you!
February 18, 2019 at 19:57
hey,
are u in europe?
February 18, 2019 at 20:11
1. Sounds reasonable, but read all the options and choose. It’s not a trick question.
2. The DS260 number is shown on the confirmation page in the DS260
February 18, 2019 at 20:16
thanks Britt. Since it does not say DS 260 confirmation number. We assume is the 10 digit confirmation number (that contains letters and numbers) from the main applicant. We just want to be sure before we submit. thank you as always for your help.
February 18, 2019 at 22:25
If it on the confirmation page of your DS260 then yes – that is it.
February 18, 2019 at 21:02

February 19, 2019 at 16:15
Hi Brit, I have a problem. I have just found that I made a mistake on ds260 about incorrectly written employment dates. Little mistake of 2 days. I contacted KCC they said they can’t unlock my ds260 because my case gonna be scheduled for interview. The question is What should I do?
Thanks for your reply.
February 19, 2019 at 16:19
Another question is this can be the reason to refuse?
February 19, 2019 at 17:39
Relax. No need to do anything for this trivial issue.
February 19, 2019 at 19:00
Thank you so much for a quick reply 🙂
February 19, 2019 at 16:42
Hi Sir Brit,
Thanks a million for the multiple directions.
KCC requested for documents to be sent for me, my wife and 2 kids.
I have mine already but the passports for my dependents are still not ready.
The Ghanaian Passport Authority has been disappointing us since Jan 29, 2019. Even today which was mentioned to us to come still disappointed. We have been rescheduled to come next month.
My case no is 2019AF8XX.
Mr Brit, looking at my case number, is it not going to disturb and prolong our process?
Thanks
February 19, 2019 at 17:38
Well your number is already current – so once you get your documents in order you will be able to submit those and will in due course, be scheduled for interview.
February 19, 2019 at 18:35
Lester do more follow ups … Its unfortunate they are doing this…my boyfriend went to take his pic since Oct and yet still anytime he goes they reschedule him….
February 19, 2019 at 18:08
1-Can I get the medical examination from a country and take the envelope and do the interview in another country ?
and thanks a lot for your help I appreciate your efforts on this blog.
February 19, 2019 at 21:09
No. You must have the medical in the place where the interviewing embassy has approved.
February 19, 2019 at 19:25
Hi Brit,
I have three people in the us that I am closely related to and all are willing to provide affidavit of support I-134;
1. is it advisable to get I-134 from all of them to make my case stronger since I have a family of four.
2. how long does it take for one to receive confirmation email from kcc that your documents are complete and in order apart from the auto reply that’s obvious upon submission of docs.
February 19, 2019 at 19:47
2- maximum one week
February 20, 2019 at 09:54
Abdelhamid that’s not correct. It took about a month from my document submission until I received confirmation that processing was complete from KCC. Others have been quicker, some have been longer.
February 20, 2019 at 10:07
@kilo
It took just took about 3 days for my case ..i guess it depends on the region
February 19, 2019 at 19:42
Hi Brit thanks for your support and info. Am from Kenya 2019AF46***
February 21, 2019 at 14:22

February 19, 2019 at 22:07
Hi Brit,
I had an interview last December 17 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for DV lottery visa winner, and submitted required documents during my interview, however, I got after my interview the 221g letter requesting for filling the DS-5535 form for each applicant, the administrative processing is marked and to send a document by mail, should I send the requested document and the passports of all family members (applicants) through mail with the requested document?
P.S: The consular provided another paper including the mail address which I need to send the documents to, mentioning that the passports should be sent, however, during our interview the consular asked to not send the passports until it’s requested after the processing and will be informed through the email
so appreciate your advice on such a case
Thanks
February 20, 2019 at 06:20
Send only what they have asked for.
February 20, 2019 at 00:34
Brit, derivate’s highschool diploma won’t be a problem right? because my soon wife had vocational highschool.
Anything derivate’s requirements beside showing proof of real marriage and basic documents ( police certificate, birth certificate, paspor ), she is working now, should she bring her employment certificate?
My documents are done, Good to go. I’m primary applicant
February 20, 2019 at 06:21
Derivative education is irrelevant.
February 20, 2019 at 08:54
Hi Brit,
in December I filed the DS 260
then in January, I got married and then unlocked my case and entered my spouse details.
then the DS 260 is successfully submitted and I received the email from KCC asking to upload those required documents.
I am about to upload those documents and my case will go current in April.
However, now noticed that I have made an error in one of the five addresses my wife resided. where her address is entered fine, but the country is Georgia where as it has been entered as Afghanistan (the first county in the drop down list).
Should I unlock and rectify the error? (I unlocked once and entered my spouse details. so sending an unlock request again would be a problem or not?)
Or is there any other alternatives?
Thanks in advance!!
February 20, 2019 at 11:16
You can choose to not unlock especially when your wife is the derivative… Its not necessary to cause another delay
February 20, 2019 at 14:17
@Dee, please leave the answering to me.
February 20, 2019 at 17:38
Yes sir
I’m sorry
February 20, 2019 at 14:14
In this case, given the country you have selected, I would suggest you unlock and correct.
February 20, 2019 at 10:55
hello Brit,
my case number is AF01***, and i have revive my 2NL, for an interview in march but my problem is:
I filled on the 2nl that I have a sponsor, but unfortunately he can not send me the requested documents
and at the same time I filled my account with 10K USD(me and my wife) ,is it enough to fill the fact of not having a sponsor? and not being able to present the documents of the sponsor is it eliminatory?
thanks in advance
February 20, 2019 at 14:16
It varies by embassy and by case. I cannot predict the outcome.
February 20, 2019 at 11:23
Hey Brit,
tried to found this answer somewhere but nothing really clear. There is an “expiration date” written on the DS-260 form, is it something random or is it an indication of the latest date at which the interview can happen?
Since my number has been current since 2 months, and the expiration is 04/30, it would make sense.
Thanks for your answer (and for everything else, your posts are really helpful).
February 20, 2019 at 14:17
The expiration date is normal and nothing to do with your case – just ignore it.
February 20, 2019 at 13:38
Hello!
First of all, thank you very much for all the time you are spending to help people navigate through this! I have made a small donation to show appreciation for your effort!
My story: I was drawn in DV2019 with CN just below 24000 (EU region) and I haven’t submitted the visa form yet. Before being selected in DV lottery, I expected to study in the US on a nonimmigrant visa. Having a green card would make the process much simpler both in the short and in the long run for me. That being said, applying and failing to get a green card would likely make me ineligible to study there at all (immigrant intent).
I planned to wait until the next VB in mid-March and then, if the pace remains the same, submit the application. Judging by this comment section, it seems like a number of people are not being scheduled on time this year. I would guess I am a relatively “low risk” applicant with many previous trips to the US.
I realise that it’s impossible to accurately predict what may or may not happen and I saw you mentioning treating May as the unofficial “deadline” to submit the form.
That being said, assuming the VB reaches my CN, how likely is it objectively to end up not being scheduled if I submit now (or in March)? I am asking because if there is a real risk of it, then does not seem worth it in my circumstances.
Thank you very much.
February 20, 2019 at 14:07
The new document procedure has made things more difficult to predict.
From a VB point of view, the faster progress we saw in EU this month is what we would expect to see if the new procedure was causing less cases to be “schedule-able”. If fewer cases have responded AND been processed they need to increase the VB number higher to realize the interviews they want to schedule (according to capacity). If a big backlog of cases existed from lower case numbers, those cases would be using a larger chunk of the available interview slots and would therefore keep the VB pace lower.
AF region has shown a slow down because (I’m speculating) people were slower to react to the new document procedure and a backlog still exists.
So – in EU we will probably see faster VB pace for a couple of months, and the later months will be about processing late DS260 submissions or new document backlogs. So – based on that thinking, you should not be at risk of timing out due to processing time, even if you submit in March or April.
February 20, 2019 at 15:54
Dear Brit
Thank you Brit for efforts.
My case number 2019AS00001XXX family of 5 all have Syrian nationality except for my new baby she is Canadian and have Syrian passport, I have in Canada a permanent residence, I submit my document and I got received documents confirmation on Feb 14 my questions are:
1- I didn’t submit my new baby Syrian passport because it was not ready at the time of submission, so do I need to contact KCC about that or I just to take the passport with me when i go to the interview?
2- As you know Syrian nationals are banned so what is your advice for us when we go to the interview?
3-Did you heard that anyone got the DV visa from and banned countries?
4- how long you think the wait time for the interview will be?
Best regards
February 20, 2019 at 16:51
2 is the most important question to deal with. Under the term of the ban it is very unlikely you will be granted a visa. If you were actually resident in Canada, and were being interviewed in Canada, you could have a reasonable chance of being granted a waiver., although the process takes several months anyway, so time is now against you. Honestly, unless you can afford the financial and emotional expense of the gamble (with almost NO chance while you are outside Canada), I would suggest you don’t try to proceed while the travel ban is in place.
February 20, 2019 at 16:16
Hi, Interview is finished and we have our visa, packet. Only know that I have seen that I have interchanged my father’s surname to his given name and vice versa. Would there be any problem?
February 20, 2019 at 16:53
If in doubt, check with the embassy.
February 20, 2019 at 17:32
Hi Mr. Simon,
Will it be a problem, if my I94 is expired?. Should I renew it?. Is there any active link for asking questions related to AOS ?. The one you gave me is not active I think.

February 20, 2019 at 20:16
Thank you!
February 20, 2019 at 18:08
Hi Simon,
Thanks for this amazing blog. My DS-260 number is EU14XXX and I just got scheduled for the embassy interview for early April. I understood that I’ll have 6 months after the medical check to go to USA, which means by September. I’m still in my current job and I have a business trip to USA in May for 1 week but I don’t want to stay in the USA yet, I’ll move only in September. My question is, can I enter USA after my visa interview as a tourist?
February 20, 2019 at 18:22
No. After the interview they will give you your passport with the single use visa in it. That will mean you will become an LPR on your next entry to the USA. However, you can enter, become an LPR and exit immediately if needed. So – do your business trip as an LPR. Read the FAQ about entry/exit timelines etc.
February 20, 2019 at 18:30
Thanks a lot for your answer. I have a second passport from another country. I assume it may not be legal to enter with that other passport, right?
February 20, 2019 at 18:53
Why on earth are you looking for ways to start your relationship with the USA as an LPR in a bad way? What is the difference?
February 20, 2019 at 19:37
Because of my current job, I can only permanently move to the USA in early 2020, so I wanted to delay as much as possible the LPR status. My current job still requires me to visit the USA every now and then. Could I do 2 or 3 short stay entries with LPR status before finally moving in early 2020?
Thanks a lot in advance,
February 20, 2019 at 21:27
Did you read the FAQ entry I told you about?
February 21, 2019 at 17:48
Yes, I read the FAQ but It only talks about being away for 6-12months at once after becoming LPR, but it does not talk about entering the country for 2-3 periods of 1 week during the first 6-12 months of becoming LPR. Could you kindly give clarity on that?
Thanks a lot,
February 21, 2019 at 18:20
You are overthinking the whole thing. Each time you enter will reset the clock.
February 20, 2019 at 19:02
Hello Britsimon! It is now one year to be living in US. Is it allowed now to invite my parents to visit me? Or i need more time.
February 20, 2019 at 21:23
You don’t gain some sort of power to invite people after any particular time. Anyone that wants to come and visit you will have to follow normal visa procedures for their country of residence.
February 20, 2019 at 19:55
Hi Brit,
Quick question, I have travelled to the US (and I am currently here) to activate my LPR, I was approved with no issues and told I could come back on the Visa stamp within one year. My question is, will it be an issue for me to to travel to Mexico for a week before I go back to Australia? My plan is to go to Mexico for a week, return to the US and then fly back home, and come back permanently within 6 months. Will this cause any issues? Thank you.
February 20, 2019 at 21:30
I think you answered your own question.
“could come back on the Visa stamp within one year”
February 21, 2019 at 06:41
So, just confirming, I’m fine to re enter multiple times on this visa stamp? Apologies if my question was worded in a convoluted way.
February 21, 2019 at 14:40
Yes
February 20, 2019 at 19:55
Hi,, I’m 2019 lottery winner and I have a question, my sponsor is also a lottery winner living in the US for almost 2 years now and paying his taxes, is it okey or I need someone who spent atleast 3 years?
Thanks in advance.
February 20, 2019 at 21:30
There is no “3 year” rule.
February 20, 2019 at 23:45
Hi Simon,
Sorry if my question is repetitious, I could not find any explanation in your website for that. I am a DV Lottery 2019 selectee and have just received my 2nd letter.
To register the interview appointment, first is a multi choice question to sign up. 1st one is “I have received a Consular interview appointment date from the National Visa Center (NVC), Kentucky Consular Center (KCC), or the Consular Section and I have been instructed to register my appointment on this site.” and there are two more which are confusing me: “I have received a letter from the consular section with instructions to schedule an immigrant visa appointment.” and “I have received a letter to register or schedule a Diversity Lottery visa appointment.”
I think it should be the first one to be selected, yet I am not sure.
Could you please advise me?
Thanks.

February 21, 2019 at 06:17
Hi Brit, thank you again for all the help you render to us along the DV journey. I have received my 2NL and have booked an appointment at the Nairobi embassy, however i only created an account for myself. Was i supposed to register each of my derivates for the appoitment as well or they automatically get registered under my account?
February 21, 2019 at 06:34
I don’t know as all the embassies use different systems. Follow their instructions.
February 21, 2019 at 10:57
Do you have any up to date information if KCC requires documents (new document procedure) from all selectees or some selectees ? thanks in advance
February 21, 2019 at 13:10
UPDATE : Got the document letter just now after I posted above. 2019EU00023XXX.
February 21, 2019 at 15:01
LOL
February 21, 2019 at 17:16
We’re early EU24xxx and have not had the request for documents from KCC yet. I have them all ready. Should I wait and be patient?
February 21, 2019 at 17:21
You can be patient, or if you cannot control yourself, you can send the documents without being asked.

All.
February 21, 2019 at 11:26
Hello Brit,
I had my interview on 5th February 2019 and was approved
and was told to fill a white form, follow the instructions and
wait for two weeks for my visa delivery.
Bt its been 2 weeks now still my Visa hasnt been issued yet
last time I checked the visa status.
Am a little worried.
Could there be a problem?
Should I call them?
February 21, 2019 at 14:51
Patience.
February 21, 2019 at 12:01
Can a case go from administrative processing to issued without the embassy obtaining the passport? The embassy didn’t collect the passport but other employment documents were collected for verification. Is there anything to worry about?
February 21, 2019 at 14:52
They need the passport to issue the visa.
February 21, 2019 at 12:42
Hi Simon,
My name is misspelled in all my academic certs (one character diff, “d” instead of “t”) and month difference in DOB against my birth cert and my passport.
I have not selected the “other name” while I was applying for the eDV 2020. my question is.
1. If I would be selected, do I need to select the “other name” in DS-260 and enter the name as in the academic certs?
2. if so, is it require to submit the affidavit of One and the same person?
3. Getting a PCC takes 2 months time in my country, is that OK to apply for that after the May 7th lottery result?
February 21, 2019 at 15:01
You chance of selection in the lottery is once in 200 years. I don’t answer detailed processing questions unless you are actually a winner. Think about something else until May.
February 21, 2019 at 13:57
Hi Brit, I hope all is well with you.
I got the interview appointment,
Should I pay the fees before the appointment or during the appointment?
(If I have to pay before the appointment how do I proceed please?)
on this https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/diversity-visa-program-entry/diversity-visa-interview/diversity-visa-prepare-for-interview.html
it says I have to pay before…
Thank you!

You can go and do all those now, or wait for the physician to decide what of those you actually need.

Hey Brit,
Hope you`re doing alright.
I wanted to ask this question again, just to be very sure.
Regarding the qualifying with work experience.
you must have two years of experience in the last five years, in an occupation which, by U.S. Department of Labor definitions, requires at least two years of training or experience that is designated as Job Zone 4 or 5,
So lets say, i work in retail for 3 years. Mind you, not as supervisor or anything like that, that is not a job zone 4 nor 5.
So that`s 3 years.
But then stop doing retail work, and work in a company with a position that is within the job zone 4 – 5.
Would i be qualified? 3 years of retail, and 2 years of a position that is listed in the O*Net Online Database and has a job zone 4(7.o) rating. So that makes it 5 years. the “within the last 5 years” confused me a bit.
2nd question: i`ve also noticed that next to doing a medical exam, also a DNA test must be done?
February 21, 2019 at 16:57
1. The 2 years is what is important. So in your example, the 3 years of retail is irrelevent. The 2 years in jobzone 4 or 5 is what is important – as long as that had happened in the previous 5 years (so between 2014 to 2019 for instance)
2. Not normally.

Hi sir, I wrote to the kcc requesting change of embassy from Venezuela to Chile and they have not responded to me, is it normal to delay answering? my case number came out in October with the bulletin delayed sending the ds should I worry about something?
February 21, 2019 at 17:03
How many times have you read me saying “patience”? What do you think I am going to say? They don’t answer immediately sometimes. Relax.
As for worrying – would worrying help?

Dear Brit,
Thank you once again for you Commitment to this website.I have a question I hope you can help .
I got my visa recently and I am planning to get married before leaving .She will follow me later the time for me to have some stability.
My question is to know if after my wedding there is a specific length of time that I have to declare the change of my status .I red somewhere that after getting married a holder of a green card should declare his new status as married within 90 days .
Please bring some clarification on that if possible.
Thank you in advance for your response
Kind regards

I know of no such time limit, but ALWAYS choose to be honest and open about everything.
It will take two years to bring your spouse with your approach.

Sir, (KCC) they answered me, in the next few days they will notify that it will happen with the american embassy in caracas but I need to travel to chile and ask for my ds260 unblocking to change interview in santiago, is it ok to have done that?
February 21, 2019 at 18:17
Yes, although you should have just waited because you may confuse KCC.

Hello BritSimons
In June I will travel to Miami to activate the card and I plan to stay 15 days and return to my country of origin to settle everything.
1) In what time do I have to return to the United States to settle permanently?
Thanks for your help.

sir, My wife is currently residing in Venezuela and I arrive in Venezuela in December and when I fill the place of residence in Venezuela, but now I want to return to Chile, can I leave my address or should I return to the address of Chile? I want to do my interview now in Chile and not in Venezuela.
February 21, 2019 at 18:16
I the principal selectee moves to another country it is important to update the address on the DS260 BUT, that will change the embassy that is used for the subsequent interview scheduling (which is one interview appointment for the whole family).
February 21, 2019 at 19:38
sir,
I think I’m going to confuse KCC is that I asked to unblock and confirm through mail that I want my date in Chile what I do then?
February 21, 2019 at 19:43
You already asked them to schedule you in Chile – right? Then calm down and wait!
February 21, 2019 at 19:54
yes, but their response was not satisfactory, then, when they unblock my ds that I do, I send it back and that’s it. I hope you schedule me?
