April 7, 2019 at 17:29

April 10, 2019 at 05:50
Thank you for your reply sir. I have read the reciprocity page for Kuwait regarding police clearance and it states that police clearance are not available for former residents of Kuwait. Only those currently living there can obtain it. Do I still need to attach a written explanation and attach with the other documents or no need since it is written on the reciprocity page!! Thanks
April 10, 2019 at 16:04
Screen capture the reciprocity page and send that with your documents, and take it to your interview.

Dear Brit,
Do u have any experience stories for the people which have recently gone to america and their life, experience and hardship, what they did for the survival and what are the tips for the new comers coming to USA on visa lottery. Please share all

I am a 2015 DV winner, i’am now in New York, i travelled on november 2016. I have. received my Green Card and made my New York’s ID 3 monthes later Britt really helped me throught my process and without his advises i’m sure i would complicate my case. What i could either say is my interview was really simple and easy… the officer Just asked me 4 questions: the name of my father, when and where i’ve got my hight school degree, what i will like to do in the USA and if i will like to become an american citizen. After those questions he told me welcome to the United states of america

Hi brit
My case number is in AF18xxx my was not schedule for interview per the visa bulletin because I was not able to get the additional document from my country soon , I life in Ukraine and I am from Liberia.
Thanks God I got the police clearance last week and submitted it along with the rest of documents, I got a replied that’s says, Record indicate that you have submitted a complete DS260 and blah blah.
My question is that, does this means my case will be scheduled in the next upcoming interview batch?
April 7, 2019 at 16:26
Probably. Wait and see.
April 7, 2019 at 11:36

Hello Brit,
I submitted the birth certificate police clearance and passport copy but i havent recived any reply
April 7, 2019 at 17:24
OK.
April 7, 2019 at 13:07
Hi Brit,
Thank you for your wonderful blog!
My CN is AF35*** and I haven’t received yet the email from KCC to send my documents.
So I send them an email inquiring about this and they responded “Your forms have been received and are currently processing…you will receive an email giving you instructions to complete in order for your case to continue processing.”
In your opinion what should I do? To send or wait for their email?
April 7, 2019 at 17:25
Send the documents.
April 9, 2019 at 18:33
I had the same reply from KCC but at the end of this email it writes “do not send any paper documents to the Kentucky Consular Center”
April 9, 2019 at 19:13
Yes of course. Documents are sent to KCC via email as specified in their email…
April 7, 2019 at 13:16
Good evening. I spent my visa interview on Monday, April 1, following the delay of the documents of the care I had not presented the documents and they gave me a paper which is ticked to send the support. after two days I sent the support. today I consulted my status, I always have “Ready”. why my status has not changed yet?
April 7, 2019 at 17:25
Because they expect you to exercise some patience!
April 7, 2019 at 14:47
Hi Simon,
I have a question,
on travel.state.gov it says that ”Please schedule and attend a medical examination prior to your visa interview; enroll in the required courier service; and gather the required documents.”
What does the part ”enroll in the required courier service” means?
Thank you
April 7, 2019 at 17:27
Exactly what it says. Read the embassy instructions and follow them.
April 7, 2019 at 16:36
Hello Brit,
I submitted the birth certificate police clearance and passport copy but i havent recived any reply
April 7, 2019 at 17:51
Dear Brit
I want to ask few questions,
US embassy on my state is asking for I-864 affidavit of support instead of I-134, but i already said to my sponsor that i need i-134.Can this cause me any problem on the interview day if you know anything about that ?
And second question is : If someone cant not find a sponsor, how much do that person need to have on bank account to be acceptable from the embassy to be issued a visa ?
Thank you very much for your endless help.
April 7, 2019 at 18:38
1. It is the 134 for DV cases. Never the i864.
2. It varies, but at least $10k per person.
April 7, 2019 at 19:25
Dear si
Can i have the link which explains the shipping cost payment of GC
April 8, 2019 at 04:01
Huh? You pay $330 at the embassy for the interview and later $220 for the GC itself.
April 8, 2019 at 01:27
Good Evening Brit, how are you?
I have this situation: I have had my interview a week ago and my diversity visa has been approved. However, I have been with my girlfriend since high school (We have been together for 7 years so far) and, because of fear of denial as a couple we did not marry and planned to marry in the US as we did not know that that process will get her a green card not before 2 or 3 years. So… As you say it here, in the third scenario: https://britsimonsays.com/marital-status-getting-married-dv-lottery-process/, we think that we should do that process, but, is it possible? Could you please bring me some more details about it?
Thank you very much.
Kind Regards,
Tomas.
April 8, 2019 at 04:07
You should have married before the interview. Scenario 3 is a silly thing to deliberately do. You are free to discuss it with the embassy but you are entirely in their hands.
April 8, 2019 at 03:04
He Brit,
In the new form sponcer should mention wheather he had sponcered people earlier if so he has to mention year and their names . My sponcer had sponcered 4 people does this gonna be a problem for me?
April 8, 2019 at 04:08
Yes that could be a problem. Get a different sponsor.
April 8, 2019 at 07:28
Hi Brit, How are you ? I would like to ask a question about my Beneficiaries ( my spouse) , he is not going to immigrate to U.S. with me . What should i do on interview day ? Thank you and looking forward to hear from you.
April 8, 2019 at 14:20
If he doesn’t want a Green Card he does not need to attend the interview.
April 8, 2019 at 10:41
Dear Mr Simon,
I want to ask you about the proof of funds, I have a saving account, but the it is a joint account. the money is mine, but the accounts name has both my name and my mother’s. Is it ok to use this account as a proof of funds? Or should I create a bank account of me only?
April 8, 2019 at 14:24
It should be OK
April 8, 2019 at 14:55
Hi brit
My Interview was not so good as I heard by others. Consular officer was not satisfy by our answer that we(me and my spouse) marry not for benefit of green card. Then he says your spouse has less chance of getting visa. He wants I134 from my sponsor and refused both of us. After submitting I134 the CEAC status shows one is Adminstrative Processing and one is refused. What is the cause of it? and Is there any chance of my spouse getting visa ?
April 8, 2019 at 15:48
The CO told you the cause – I can’t add to that. I don’t know what will happen about your spouse – would you go without her if you could never bring her to the USA?
April 9, 2019 at 04:29
My status had been changed into AP .Still her status is refused. Is there chance of changing CEAC status refused to AP of my spouse ?
April 9, 2019 at 05:23
I already answered.
April 8, 2019 at 18:03
Mr.brit I sensed my documents in kcc with out email from them today morning, there answer me with standard letter:”reserved your documents and currently professing”. Nothing more.hiw long time need hold from them news about my case.everithing ot’s Fine or what. I think my number will be current next vb.

April 9, 2019 at 19:13
Irina, I am from Georgia too. When I sent my documents to KCC they sent me back in two days saying all documents are okey and i shall wait for interview date but I sent the documents upon their request, which can be the reason for checking so fast. So be patient, give them a week or two if you received the confirmation stating they received your documents
April 8, 2019 at 19:04
hi brit
i didn’t serve in the military in my country do i need any proof that i didnt serve in the military
i mean do i need to submit any document as a (military record) if i didn’t serve in the military
thanks in advance
April 8, 2019 at 19:10
If you didn’t serve in the military you will not have a military record to show. If military service is mandatory, you may need to show proof of how you avoided/satisfied that obligation.
April 9, 2019 at 16:33
Hi Simon, when should I show proof about avoiding military, during interview or I should send with other required documents?
April 9, 2019 at 16:34
Both
April 9, 2019 at 17:09
Could you please advise, how should I proof, should I send University degree or anything else? Thanks in advance
April 9, 2019 at 17:19
You used the term avoid. That implied that military service is required in your country, and if you are able to “avoid” it, there would be documentation for that. If however military service is not required in your country, and you did not serve in the military, then there is no proof needed.
April 9, 2019 at 17:27
Military is mandatory in my country, but studing in university makes you free from military until you became 27 years old. After 27 military is not required. When I finished university I was allready 27. That was the reason avoiding military. And now I need your advise, I don’t know what to do.
April 9, 2019 at 17:35
I suggest you document the rules as you describe from official sources, and then use your best judgement on how to prove this to the KCC/embassy. No need to overthink this – the embassy are probably used to the rules.
April 9, 2019 at 17:39
Yes, probably this is the best way in my case. Thanks a lot Simon.
April 8, 2019 at 19:11
We resived your documents and currently processing”
April 8, 2019 at 19:20
Hi Brit and everyone else,
I am Kenyan Citizen living in Kenya, and I have to obtain Certificate of Good Conduct from Burundi. I am looking at the reciprocity page of Burundi and cannot find any procedure on how to obtain police certificate. It just shows the following
“Police Records
Available. Certificate of good conduct (Certificat de bonne conduite, vie et moeurs). Issued by the Governor of the Province or the town of applicant’s last residence in Burundi.” I have tried calling phone numbers I found online but no success. No email is displayed as well.
Anybody knows what the procedure is and contact info/ along with how to pay the PCC fees?
I would appreciate alot. Time is running out, my case # is 2019AF34XXX
April 8, 2019 at 19:44
You would contact the “Governor of the Province or the town” of the place you last resided before you left Barundi. That’s it. Nothing mysterious.
April 9, 2019 at 01:02
Hi Britsimon.
First off, thank you very much for the invaluable info that you provide on your blog.
I am a DV 2019 selectee from Kenya; CN: 2019AF29***, and have a few questions:
1. I submitted my DS-260 application on December 27th, 2018, but have never heard back from KCC,
not even with the ‘Documents Submission’ email. I plan on submitting them anyway, based on what you’ve advised in your previous posts. Question is, what could be the reason they haven’t asked me for the docs yet? I understand some people with even higher case numbers have received emails asking for the documents. Should I be concerned about this?
2. My current Police Clearance Certificate expires on June 20th, 2019 (Probably before my interview date). Is it okay if I send it to KCC anyway, but apply for another before my interview and take them both to the interview?
3. I’ve read through my embassy’s requirements, and your previous posts, but still do not understand how to get access to Form I-134, and at what point in this process to submit it, or rather get it from my sponsor. Idk. I’m particularly confused about this.
4. I recently lost my job, that I’d worked only three months, and that I’d indicated on my application as my current occupation. What does this imply on my application?
5. I do not have adequate savings; only got enough to cater for the processing expenses. Again, what are the implications of my current financial situation on my visa application?
Thank you for your time.
Looking forward to your feedback.
April 9, 2019 at 03:27
1. It’s normal. Relax.
2. Yes.
3. Your sponsor can google the form, complete it and send it to you with supporting docs. FAQ.
4. Nothing.
5. You will need the I-134.
April 9, 2019 at 07:30
Thank you very much for your feedback, Britsimon.
April 9, 2019 at 03:08
Hi, can you please tell me who all gets interviewd, only Principal applicant or dependents too.
I’m principal applicant, planning to go for interview with my husband and kids 13 and 11 years.
Thanks
April 9, 2019 at 03:14
You will all interview together.
April 9, 2019 at 03:31
Hello Sir
if our sponsor provide us I134 and 1040 .is W2 compulsory again for employed based sponsor?
April 9, 2019 at 03:33
Stop asking me this same question! This was also your question.

Good day dear Brits
My case number is 2019AFXXXX I did my interview on December, I was into admistraadmin processing, now from the status Visa check my Visa was issued ,but the consular is telling me that they are waiting for Visa numbers,I didn’t understand ,I will like to get more light about “waiting for Visa numbers”
April 9, 2019 at 13:58
The embassy has to request a visa for you from KCC. It takes time. Be patient.
April 9, 2019 at 15:17
Hallo Simon,
first of all, thank you so much for bringing this site into life.
From what I understand, your situation is somewhat similar to mine. I am a German citizen, who has lived in the States for several years before. I have met my girlfriend there. She however is still in the US. But she is Brazilian, so shes not eligiable to apply for the DV lot.
If I do win this year… Our plan is to get married and change her status from an O1 to the Green Card, as I would be her beneficiary. Now you and your wife have gone through something similar, as she is from Spain.
I presume, you guys had to go back to Spain for the Interview? Meaning my girlfriend has to come to Germany (as it would be the next best thing to go to an embassy) for the interview at the embassy, right?
Salut
Kilian
April 9, 2019 at 16:31
Some corrections.
She would be your derivative.
You could adjust status in the USA.
Now – it is a lottery with a small chance of winning – so don’t bother thinking about more questions unless you win.
April 9, 2019 at 15:27
Thanks for your answer, if it will take time ,can I know how long?
and can you tell me the validity of medical report, I did mine on December now I worrying about the expiration of medical report
April 9, 2019 at 16:34
I don’t know how long it will take. Your medical sets the expiration date of the visa itself (medical date + 6 months), so you will have a short time to enter the USA, and for that reason you may need to repeat the medical.
April 9, 2019 at 15:40
Dear Brit
How long does it take for the green card to arrive when I arrive in the states ?
Also can I travel back to France if I didn’t receive my green card yet??
Best
April 9, 2019 at 16:32
Please read the FAQ!
April 9, 2019 at 16:47
Hello mr. Brit Simon.
Am Bonny from Kenya AF00045. I have my host in the U S but my sponsor is here at home,he will give me his bank statement and a notorised letter to prove he will support me financially.
Will that be accepted at the embassy?
Thank you Sir.
April 9, 2019 at 17:00
An I-134 is advisable. Read the FAQ.
April 9, 2019 at 17:00

The FAQ!
April 9, 2019 at 19:09
Dear Brit!!! Thank you for EVERYTHING!!
You helped so many of us!
I have a question, when do I need to pay my Green card fee? I didn’t get any instruction!
Thank you!!
April 9, 2019 at 19:14
You pay $330 at the embassy, then $220 is paid online after approval around the time of the first entry. The embassy provide instructions about that along with the visa.
April 9, 2019 at 20:30
Dear Sir, is it ok if the sponsor is out of U.S. for a few weeks by the time the interview is conducted, i am asking this question because i heard that the embassy may contact the sponsor at some point to make sure he /she lives in the given address in U.S. Thanks
April 9, 2019 at 20:45
It should be OK if the sponsor is just out of the US for a vacation.
April 9, 2019 at 23:20
Hello Brit,
I have received email from KCC for further documents required. As said in email, military record and court record if convicted for a crime are needed. Because I don’t have both, where do I explain it, do I need to place the letter of explanation in a separate pdf file or I just need to put the explanation in the email itself?
Thanks Brit.
April 9, 2019 at 23:30
I completed the documents sending process so just tell KCC that you haven’t been convicted of crime and that you have not served in military. They will just accept the passport, birth certificate, etc. and won’t bother about the other 2 asked documents 🙂
April 9, 2019 at 23:42
If you don’t have those things because you were not in the military or convicted of a crime – then there is no need to provide proof.
April 10, 2019 at 02:14
hello I want you to clarify a question I am asking for the documents to continue with the process of diversity visa, now I am going to emigrate I should only send my documents only or should I send those of my family
April 10, 2019 at 04:09
The principal and any derivatives. It is clearly stated in the email from KCC.
April 10, 2019 at 05:53

Thankyou
April 10, 2019 at 16:05
1. No problem.
2. No, yes.
April 10, 2019 at 07:20

April 10, 2019 at 16:25
Send the new one. Take old and new to the interview.
April 10, 2019 at 11:49
Dear Brit,
You have been asked several times about zeros in CN. And you always answered the same – include zeros in your CN, like this 2019EU000XXXXX.
But when I saw your first comment about zeros, I have already sent my docs without zeros (2019EUXXXXX).
And I wrote letter to KCC about zeros and got their answer – “This does not affect the processing of your case.”
Then I relaxed and forgot about this question. But yesterday you wrote again – “CN with zeros. Correct CN”.
I became nervous. Why do you insist CN to be with zeros ? Should I necessarily resend my docs with 2019EU000XXXXX ?
I respect you and your opinion. Please, dont be angry and clarify.
April 10, 2019 at 12:32
i have sent my documents without 000…..????? i resend doc ?????? pleaee brit answer
April 10, 2019 at 16:30
HAVE YOU CHECKED THEY ARE SATISFIED?
How on earth is it possible you have not read my answer about that already? You really need to use some common sense.

If you call KCC and give a case number without zeros they will usually say that is not a real number. So – they usually want all the zeros. That is not to say they cannot apply the logic of adding back zeros, but it puts them through an extra step which can slow things down and cause confusion. So – to be on the safe side – write the FULL number.

Dear Birt,
My country use the term Secondary School instead of High School. What term should I use in the DS-260 ?
Should I use Secondary School Certificate or High School Diploma?
Thanks

My school certificate was also named secondary school diploma but the new forms of the document name it as “General Education Diploma” without specifying how many years I studied at school, it has only the date of completion but not admission. Can this be a problem (since i am going to have my interview in a different state, not my home country)?

Use your own judgement.

Simon,
I’d be grateful to get your accurate input about the principal (DV1) entering the US first.
I am the principal and I have a job interview next week in the US, and I will return to Japan in 5 days. Entry at PoE will trigger my LPR status (DV1).
My family (DV2 & DV3) and I will move to the US in June with me when the kids finish school.
Questions:
(1) Can I enter the US “FIRST” without jeopardizing the entry of my family accompanied by me in June?
(2) Are there any forms to fill-in, documents to bring, or procedures to take so that my family can enter the US in June without any issue?
(3) Any procedural aspects that I need to be aware of in this situation.
Many, many thanks.

1. Yes
2. No. But if you are worried, they could carry a photocopy of your endorsed DV1 visa.
3. No.

Hi Brit
As my medical is due soon. I am being hunted by the thoughts that I might be in some trouble due to self indicted multiple cut marks on my arm. It was purely a teenage boy stupid acts some 14-15 years back not any suicidal or depression outcome. Do u think it can cause me difficulty in medical and overall DV process???
Thanks.

Oh thanks Brit. It seems anxiety has took over me due to these things roaming on my head. Sorry for wasting your time with same issue.
Thanks again.

Hi Brit,
Hope you are well.
We had an interview in US Embassy in Abu Dhabi last 7th April. The CO who interviewed us approved our visa.
Next day morning we received a call from embassy that they need time to prepare our visa as they need to review some details on my husband documents. Btw, my husband is the winner. We ask them if there is any problem with the documents, he said there is no problem but need to review by the supervisor.
Checking our status in CEAC still showing READY.
Please advise if we need to contact embassy or need more patience?
