Hi brit
Good evening
Please can i appeal if my visa has been refused due to section 212 (a)(5)
April 22, 2019 at 05:00
Has something changed making you eligible?
April 22, 2019 at 08:09
Full name in Native Language
Hi Brit,
My last name is **çica and I just realized I ticked “Does not Apply/ Technology not availabe” at the section of “Full name in native language”, and now I know I should have written the second name as it is in native language – **çica. However I just wrote **cica on the section “Name provided” as it did not allow me to add the letter “ç”.
My husband on the other hand, on the section “Full name in Native Language” has written it correctly, **çica.
Is this a problem for the interview? I already submitted documents required by KCC.
April 22, 2019 at 09:15
1. I mean, should I unlock DV 260 and revise it, even though I already submitted required documents at KCC?
April 22, 2019 at 13:52
No problem.
April 26, 2019 at 08:42
Hi Brit,
4 working days after I submitted the required documents I received the email from KCC stating – Records indicate you have submitted a complete and valid DS-260 application for each family member, and you have provided all required documentation to the Kentucky Consular Center.
Case no: 2019EU22xxxx
Now waiting for the 2nd NLs. Hopefully interview will be in July.
Thank you for your help.
April 22, 2019 at 08:30
Hi Mr. Brit,
Having followed your instructions closely have been of tremendous help to me. I just received the 2NL and scheduled for June. Thanks.
My question is a Principal Applicant with 3 Beneficiaries, the only to pay Visa acquisition Fee OR all four (4) involved:
Me, my wife, and 2 kids (less than 4 years old)?
I went through your FAQs, but had challenge accessing info on this subject.
Thanks.
April 22, 2019 at 13:53
Every person pays the fees.
April 22, 2019 at 10:06

Wait and see.
April 22, 2019 at 13:47
Hi brit, do you know why the people from counties in the travel ban can still register in DV program? While they’ll be rejected because of the rule, why do they have permission for registering?
April 22, 2019 at 14:03
1. The DV program is governed by laws, and those laws have not changed.
2. The ban could end
3. Some people from banned countries could still be approved (for example living in the USA already)
….and so on. Lots of reasons.
April 22, 2019 at 15:04
Hey there,
I’m sorry I might be repeating my own question but I didn’t get a reply for me previous one. I’m not sure you have a knowledge about this but do you think I could ask the KCC to speed up with my application? The situation is that I got into an MBA program starting this fall and I want to go for it as a permanent resident instead of going on a student visa. Do you think that’s possible?
Thanks a ton,
Macs
April 22, 2019 at 20:55
You did get a reply. You just didn’t read it.

April 22, 2019 at 19:11
Hi brit could you please tell me if i have to take certificate birth of my daughter to my interview that will not immigrate with me?
April 22, 2019 at 20:57
It won’t harm you to carry that document.
April 22, 2019 at 22:01
Hi BritSimon
I have submitted all documents and have had a reply from them confirming they have recieved my documents. Its been too long since then i have not heard from them. Should i be worry Or keep calm? Also please I need more clarity on how the bulletin works as against the case numbers?
April 22, 2019 at 23:37
Please read the FAQ about reading the bulletin.
Regarding whether you should worry or not – worrying won’t help. Having some patience will.
April 23, 2019 at 05:41

April 23, 2019 at 13:12
Hello, I will interview in Kenya.
1. Does anyone know where I can translate my police certificate from French to English?
2. Where can I send documents to be certified?
Thanks
April 23, 2019 at 13:22
Doesn’t Kenya have some translation bureau or office of notary? or maybe you could ask an english teacher, idk.
April 23, 2019 at 19:53
Unsure what I found online is reliable or not. I was hoping someone would direct me to these two services.
April 23, 2019 at 19:11
If French is the official language for Kenya, you don’t need to have it translated, which is addressed on the notification email.
April 23, 2019 at 19:51
English is the official language in my country, I have a french police certificate because I used to live/work in a french speaking country.
April 23, 2019 at 20:31
Hey Faadi! I don’t live in Kenya but I suggest the following:
1. Try calling your local Alliance Francaise and ask if they could possibly do the translation.
2. For certifying, a qualified lawyer or notary public should be able to certify documents. Some banks have notaries so you could call around and ask?
Good luck!
April 23, 2019 at 22:39
Thank you so much for your suggestion Anna. I appreciate !
April 23, 2019 at 15:29
Hi Mr Simom.. is it ok to use a newly drawn birth certificate if one misplaced the old one? If yes, do one need to attach any document with the new birth or just the new birth certificate is ok. Thanks
April 23, 2019 at 16:38
As long as it is an official document, yes
April 23, 2019 at 15:36
Is my pregnancy included in the report that is sent to embassy
April 23, 2019 at 16:39
You keep asking this same question in different ways. It seems you want to conceal a pregnancy. If you do that, you are an idiot. Don’t lie in this process.
April 23, 2019 at 16:34
Hello sir. My interview has been scheduled for June 26. My case No. is 2019As56**. I want to change my sponsor. What should i do to change my sponsor now? Please suggest me Britsimon sir.
April 23, 2019 at 17:58
Discuss it at the interview
April 24, 2019 at 05:33
Hello Pawan!! Are you from Sri Lanka?
April 23, 2019 at 17:02
Do police certs have to be authenticated?
April 23, 2019 at 19:38
Rules vary by country.
April 23, 2019 at 18:50
I appreciate your endless support to the DV lottery winners. my case is AF43**** and might be current for July. I already received an email to send the necessary documents, which I already did a month ago. I am having an issue, my sponsor withdrew and I have to get another. Will this have a negative implication on me , may be denial of a Visa? Should I go ahead and request the Kentucky to unlock the D-260 ? in case I am invited for an interview and asked why I changed my sponsor, how should I respond?
April 23, 2019 at 19:27
It’s not a problem. Change at the interview and if asked, be truthful.
April 23, 2019 at 20:54
Hi Brit,
I hope you’re doing well.
I have a question: I moved recently to the US through the DV lottery and my wife got sick so I took her to the hospital and of course we didn’t have any insurance. I was told she can benefit from Medicaid, but I am worried that the governemnt will send the bill to our sponsor. How does this work? I am currently living in DC.
Thanks.
April 23, 2019 at 21:47
Well first, you should have had insurance. However, the sponsor in a DV case doesn’t have actual liability, so you might find they rite off the debt, but they could also peruse you for the debt.
April 24, 2019 at 06:02
Hello Brit!
I have a question for you and I would like to help me.
I’m from Albania and I receive an email from KCC. My question is: For preliminary documents, the police certification, should I send them directly to U.S embassy or I will take it from Albania Post and then I will scan and send them with .jpeg or .pdf format?
Thank you!
April 24, 2019 at 13:41
If your embassy the police cert to remain unopened, you can either obtain 2 copies (opn & scan one), or scan the sealed envelope and provide a copy of the instructions that say the envelope should remain sealed.
April 24, 2019 at 07:50

Hello,
Should the affidavit support document be accompanied by any documents showing that the person, who is preparing the affidavit support, has paid TAX for the last financial year? Thanks
April 24, 2019 at 13:45
Yes, they provide the I-134 and copies of the 1040/W2, payslips, and ID
April 24, 2019 at 11:41
Hello Sir. Can we put the sponsor who has recently travelled U.S as a skilled worker. Her income is High to support us. But She has travelled 4 or 5 months ago ? Will it cause problem to put a sponsor
April 24, 2019 at 13:45
No.
April 24, 2019 at 13:53
Which reply it is sir?
1. No we can’t put as a sponsor
2. No it wont cause problem to put her as a sponsor
please clarify me sir.
April 24, 2019 at 14:50
1.
April 24, 2019 at 15:10
Thankyou so much sir.
April 24, 2019 at 12:10
is the family size in the poverty requirement the number of people you are sponsoring only or is it your family plus the the number of people you are sponsoring that make up the family size?
April 24, 2019 at 13:47
You already asked me and I answered. Don’t be lazy.

Dear Mr. Brit
good day,
I came to know that there was a mistake happened during our ds 260 fill up regarding birth place , we mentioned different place than the birth certificate for my wife and she is the principle applicant. we already received the second letter and intetview is on june. should I request for unlock for correction or shall I explain it on the intetview.
by mistake we mentioned the birth place where she got her higher education. The place where she burn and got higher education is diffetent.
waiting your suggestion please
April 24, 2019 at 17:16
You cannot unlock now.
If the birthplace is in the same country, it won’t be a problem.
April 24, 2019 at 17:24
Dear Brit
good day,
I came to know that
during ds 260 fill up by mistake I mentioned
wrong birth place to my wife.she is the main applicant and my question is should I send request to unlock ds 260 or shall we explain it on the visa interview. We already received the 2nl and interview is on june.
instead of birth place I mentioned the place
where she got her higher education.
(birth date is correct only the place is diffrent)
April 24, 2019 at 19:22
Hi,
1. I’m sure many people must have asked this question, how many days/months will it take to get interview call under new documents procedure.
2. We lived in dubai on resident visa 10 years ago, do i need a police certificate from there as well, will they even give us PCC now.
Many thanks in advance.
April 24, 2019 at 21:38
1. It varies.
2. Read the reciprocity page instructions.
April 24, 2019 at 19:36
Case no EU235XX. A strange thing happened.Although I submitted documents and received confirmation letter “Records indicate you have submitted a complete and valid DS-260 application for each family member, ……” in March, I got exactly the same letter once again today.
What’s wrong ? I am expecting the 2NL these days and I got the wrong mail,
April 24, 2019 at 21:37
Contact KCC. Perhaps it is a simple mistake.
April 24, 2019 at 21:16
Hi Brit and everyone,
Has anyone who is not a citizen of Uganda obtained a police certificate from Uganda? I am not a Uganda citizen but I lived there some 15 years back.Upon asking for police certificates, am told told that only citizens can get it or foreigners who currently work in Uganda can get it. These are new rules they say. But the reciprocity page of Uganda did not change. What to do?
April 25, 2019 at 19:24
Call Interpol Uganda as they are the ones that issue the police clearances or fill the documents (including fingerprints) required for a police clearance in the country you live in now and send them to Uganda Interpol by mail. Get a lawyer or friend to help you take them there and pick up as well
April 26, 2019 at 18:13
Thank you !
April 24, 2019 at 21:32
Mr.Brit , my wife is chinese, she could still get the greencard right? I’m the main applicant from Indonesia.
April 24, 2019 at 21:34
Yes
April 24, 2019 at 21:47
Mr.Brit i’m going to change my interview location again from jakarta back yo guangzhou and also I’m going to get married on may 14, i know it’s super late. my cn 105**
so on requesting unlock form, i should write my 2 reasons, right?
1. Because my wife is chinese local, i would be better to get interviewed in china embassy ( change from jakarta to guangzhou )
2. I’d like to add a Family member ( my wife ) Recently just got married.
Do you think everything will be fine? probably august i will get an interview schedule
April 24, 2019 at 22:53
You don’t need to give reasons.
April 24, 2019 at 23:34
So far I’ve been getting a Good responding from KCC while i see others got replied from KCC after 1 month or many weeks, i once unlock ds 260 to.change location it just took 2 days, and last time i emailed them asking about suggestions , they replied within a day. So Do you think because i made a mess right now BY delaying my further documents, KCC would also slow to respond my request? ( like unlock ds 260 and verify or processing my further documents ) if they do so , could i call them directly asking about it? to make it faster, i know it sounds ego. but i hope they dont make an exception..
April 24, 2019 at 23:40
I don’t know.
April 25, 2019 at 11:34
Hello Britt,
There was a mistake made on my birth certificate but the translated copy form the translator, the date of birth is different from the original document. I’v already got a confirmation from KCC that the documents are in order, but is it better if I request an edit or resend the birth certificate corrected?
April 25, 2019 at 14:19
You can resend.
April 25, 2019 at 14:12
Good Morning Brit, It’s about something that many people have been asking in my country… So I live in Algeria, and here two people are living together : The Kabyles ( The original people and we’are talking Kabyle ) and the Arabs ( those who came from MiddleEast in the middle Age)… Something we’re noticing is that every year the majority of winners are from our Region ( Kabylie ), for example in dv2014 there were 4 winners in our small town ( including my Bro) and this year, we have 3 winners (including me) so we would like to know what is the reasons for that, some say that it’s because many people here are applying and some others say that the main aim of the DVLottery is Diversity so they’re trying to select more in the minority we Are, what do you think ?
April 25, 2019 at 14:17
Hello Mr Brit Simons
I made a mistake on my original entry. My name is correctly entered on all officiel documents and ds 260. On original entry i mistakely enter my name as Francis, Morel Zebaze with “Morel” on given name section instead of Francis Morel, Zebaze with “Morel” on surname section. I would like ton know if this can cause denial. Interview un may from Cameroon. Thanks for your blog.
April 25, 2019 at 23:19
It could cause problems if you are suspected on multiple entries. However, as long as that is not a concern, and you entered details correctly on the ds260, it should be ok.
April 25, 2019 at 14:38
Hi Brit my CN is 2019AF 24*** when i opened my checking Status page of mine i just saw it is at NVC and it says that “Six steps you must take Before NVC can schedule your Visa interview appointment this includes submitting to NVC Various Fees forms and documents once NVC has received all the required items they will let you know if anything is missing or incomplete” my big question is that mandatory to pay the fees right now before scheduling my case if your answer is yes where will be the place to pay and How to pay in cash or in another way. Or Full filling my DS 260 and sending the document what they asked me are enough to wait for my 2nL Give me some Brief about this please Thank you.
April 25, 2019 at 15:29
Just Ignore that text when atNVC, you don’t have to pay fees before your Interview !
April 25, 2019 at 17:32
Ignore everything on that page about NVC and fees and so on.
Just make certain you have submitted your DS260 and documents to KCC.
April 25, 2019 at 17:48
Hello BritSimon,
My CN is 2019EU00029***.
I submitted my DS 260 on February 24, 2019, received confirmation. I sent supporting documents without being asked on the 1st of April, received an email stating that they were processing my documents. I have not received any notification that my documents have been processed so far. I also sent them an email asking whether they are satisfied with my documents. 10 days ago I received a long email resembling supporting documents request but in which they were using re-submit word instead of submit, and instructions what and where to send were listed.
I waited for a bit and I called KCC today. I asked them whether they are satisfied with my documents and that I would like to know more about my status overall, if possible. They told me that they do not see my documents because my DS 260 has not been processed yet. I was also told that my case number is not current anyway and I should wait. But it seemed to me they were trying to get me off the phone.
I am interested in your opinion.
1. Is it abnormal situation that DS 260 has been processed yet?
2. Should I try to call them again and talk to someone else?
3. Should I relax now, wait 1-2 weeks after July dv bulletin release and, if no actions from their side, I call them to know the status of my DS 260 and supporting documents?
April 25, 2019 at 19:00
Hello Denny
Do not worry. I have sent my DS260 back on May 18,2018 and received the email that KCC has completed processin it on 19th April (just when my case became current 26XXXEU), on 19th april, I received also the email for further document requirement, and I did send them on 19th april, and today 25 of April I received confirmation that all my documents are okay. (I would suggest you to send the documents in PDF file)
All in all, do not worry, they will send you the confirmation of DS260 when your case becomes current.
Hang on there buddy, you have a bright future ahead!
All the best
April 25, 2019 at 19:22
Hello Ermin,
Thank you very much for the information and support! I wish you good luck and success in the upcoming interview.
April 25, 2019 at 19:14
In the first question I made a typo. I meant, “…that DS 260 has NOT been processed yet”
April 25, 2019 at 19:49
Do not worry … I am from Albania and 29500 ….. ds 260 submitted in June …. The same answer … You have to wait.ds 260 sessions still processed. I’ve got cn cases over 29,000 have received confirmation email ….. Kcc has a very bad management …
April 25, 2019 at 23:04
You are not current. You need to wait. If you went current on the next VB, you would need to wait until the beginning of the following month. So – calling them a week or two after the next VB is a waste of their time.
April 25, 2019 at 18:04
Hi Brit again.
So, few weeks ago I have received an email from KCC (subject line was: 2019EU00029XXX Diversity Visa Adjustment letter) with two attachment files, one about the AOS procedure while in the US, second with a payment form,
My case (EU29XXX) is not current yet and not announced for June either. Should I send the $330 payment to KCC even if the case is not announced yet? I qualify for AOS with USCIS, I’m just a bit confused why I’ve got that email way before my case to be current.
April 25, 2019 at 23:05
If you don’t pay in advance of being current, it will slow down your submission once you become current.
April 25, 2019 at 23:38
Thanks for the reply. Just mailed a cashier check out! – Will add more updates here once the case moves on for others interested in AOS vs CP
April 26, 2019 at 00:31
if we think logically in big numbers we will get an interview based on this email …Can give me your opinion Brit ??
April 26, 2019 at 03:02
Crazy Use some common sense please! If I just told someone with EU29XXX (about the same number as yours) to get ready, don’t you think your subsequent question asking for my opinion is a little idiotic. Why don’t you ever read what I say to you and others and use some simple logic – really – I don’t understand.
April 26, 2019 at 01:48
How to know that we received 2NL and how to proceed
Hello Britt .Excuse me my CN is 2019AF262xx and I had everything sent to KCC as expected and Kcc to react having received everything and ask me to wait for the 2NL .my question is how am I current VB June until day my mailbox has received nothing as information about the 2NL what should I do. there is there another way to know if we are scheduled for the interview. Thank you for helping me in this process.
April 26, 2019 at 03:02
You can check your ESC page.
April 26, 2019 at 03:12
Hi Brit, closing down the US embassy and prevailing situation in SL.. will it make dv lottery just a dream for us?? Really fed up.. ?
April 26, 2019 at 03:22
Yes it is inconvenient, but let’s put it in perspective. Hundreds were killed and injured. DV winners will suffer some delays.
April 26, 2019 at 07:53
Hi Brit,greetings from Ethiopia
A friend of mine was stolen all his documents including his Passport from his car yesterday. He was scheduled for Interview at end of May,
1.Do You think he will be given a passport with same passport number if he applies for a replacement
2. Do u think having interview with replacement documents can have a negative impact
April 26, 2019 at 14:20
1. How the heck would I know that?
2. Possibly.
April 26, 2019 at 08:32

April 26, 2019 at 09:38
Dear Mr. brit
Good day,
previously I asked you questiones and you are giving answers nicely so I am getting more ideas about dv, thank you very much
now I have one problem that the birth place of my wife ( principal applicant)in birth cert and in citizenship is different.passport was made on the basis of citizenship it means birth place in citizenship and in passport is not correct and which is in birth certificate is correct one.few day back I came to know and got confused what to do about it . I already received the 2nl , my question is 1. should I request to the citizenship authority to correct my citizenship and passport as per birth cert and take both passport in visa interview? if I do this there will be different details than the pasport which I had scanned earlier to KCC
2.or is it ok to explain in interview that it was happened due to the mistake of citizenship authority .Our interview is after one and half month
waiting your advise
thank you.
April 26, 2019 at 14:30
1. If you have documents with mistakes they should be corrected.
2. You must explain & document the problem because you already sent KCC the old documents.

Hi,
Please I really need your help Britt, I filled my DS260 form with a different email from that which I played the lottery with because I didn’t have access to the initial email. Now I have regained access the the original email and I am not sure which email to send my documents through to KCC . Will it be an issue if I use the original email I played with but isn’t on my DS260 form?
Please I kindly need your help.
Many thanks
Nadia

Hi Brit
I have this thing troubling my mind.
When filling my ds260 form,I put two names for sponsor. That is,my main sponsor and her husband.
Do you think I’m in trouble with this?

Hi Brit. I applied to DV2020 and although the results are not published yet, I wanna make sure I have the documents ready in case I get picked (feeling positive! 🙂 )
1- According to the official website, they say that they will assign an interview date AFTER you submit the DS-260 AND the scanned documents that you will later present at the Embassy. I’ve been reading the comments on your page, and it seemed that the interview was set right after submitting the DS-260, no one mentioned the scanned documents. So is it true that I will need the scanned documents to get a date for the interview? I’m asking because I’ll need to collect police records from Germany for the time I lived there (I don’t live there anymore) and requesting these papers from abroad takes a long time, and I don’t wanna miss the chance of an interview just because Germany takes a long time to send your these Police Records. So I was wondering if I can just submit my DS-260, get the date for an interview, and then collect this paper from Germany, because I will have enough time to do so after submitting the DS260.
Also, on the official website they don’t mention an apostille for the foreign Police Records, so I guess I don’t need it? or should I request it? requesting it would take even longer, so I’m not sure how to proceed (and the KCC won’t answer my question)
2- Also, I applied when married (I did listed my husband on the application) but filed for a divorce later on and my lawyer told me the divorce was granted 2 days ago but I still don’t have the decree. What should I list on my marital status on the DS-260? I am technically divorced, but I don’t have any papers yet of the decree.
3- Lastly, I’ve been traveling non-stop for about 2.5 years, and I’ve been working remotely from everywhere (kind of a digital nomad? working from my laptop) and since I wasn’t a tax resident in my home country (you’re not a tax resident anymore after 6 months of leaving) I wasn’t paying taxes anywhere, because I wasn’t taxable anywhere. What should I list under the “Employment” section on the DS-260? “Self-Employed”? Will they request proof of this, like tax declarations, which I don’t have? Or should I just list “unemployed” for 2.5 years? What should be the best way to address this?
Thank you!

Your chance of being selected is about once in 200 years. Your questions are pointless unless you are selected.

Hi Brit!
My wife and I have had the interview in Naples this April 24th. It finished whit “you’re visa has been approved, you’ll get the passports in a week. Good luck”.
Now I’ve checked the status on CEAC site and they say “administrative processing”.
We provided all the documentation, everything was OK. We’re good people, 40 and 35 years old, no criminal records, not university but both of us high school graduated, healthy and hard workers :-). The first officer at the moment of gathering all the certificates asked us for the affidavit of support when we told we have family in US and we answer kindly showing our savings (90k euros). Than the interview officer, after three or four questions all gone very good (year of marriage, why you married in NY, year of diploma, have you ever overstayed in US, what’s your job here, are your parents still alive) asked at the end “are you willing to move all your money to your American bank account (we have one already opened).” off course” we answered and she said “your visa has been approved”.
I know that in Italy they don’t usually refuse a green card and we have to wait because it’s quite normal to see “administrative processing” after 3 days including one day of national holiday, but this situations it’s freaking me out.
What do you think?

I think you should have read the FAQ. If you had, you would not be freaking out.

Hi Simon! There was nothing to worry about, as you suggested! The visas have arrived on April 30th!!
Thank you!!
