Hi Brit,
I am so sorry to bring up this stupid question again. I am selected for DV-2020; however, I found out that I uploaded an old photo in the entry form and that old photo is also used for my current passport and current F-1 Visa. Have you heard of similar cases but because he/she notified KCC about the situation and updated the photo before/in the interview, he/she was still approved in the interview.
Again, thank you.
May 13, 2019 at 01:51
You cannot update the photo.
Up to now they have not been disqualifying cases for old photos. You do NOT need to draw their attention to your mistake (but tell the truth if asked).
May 13, 2019 at 02:47
Thank you for your reply. I am just too afraid that a CO could easily find out that the photo is reused from my F-1 Visa in 2016. I will submit a new photo during the interview.
Really appreciated your response 🙂

hello simon, i am winner DV 2019AF45xxx i have submitted my DS-260 by inattention so i try to unblock at the following address [email protected] and i receive this message after which email do i need? __ The Kentucky Consular Center (KCC ) has received your email. This email address, [email protected] is for the case-specific Diversity Visa inquires only. If you would like to check the status of your entry, please do so at http://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ESC . This website is the definitive means of determining whether or not you are eligible for further processing. You must see a statement that is addressed to you by the DV program.Thank you.
May 13, 2019 at 01:52
Unblocking doesn’t mean you never submitted it.
May 13, 2019 at 06:48
Hi Brit,
My case no is 2019EU22xxx and I added my husband as a derivative after I was selected.
1. Do I need to show savings?
2. If yes, how much should I have?
3. Does this apply for my husband as well?
4. How much we should have in total?
Thanks in advance!
May 13, 2019 at 07:31
Hello V, when you applied for DV2019 did you enter as SINGLE or MARRIED? (seein that you said you added your husband as a derivative AFTER you were selected?
May 13, 2019 at 09:39
I entered as single then changed the DV 260 to married. As we got married afterwards.
May 13, 2019 at 10:52
Aha now it makes sense. I thought you were married but entered as single, which would have caused you disqualification! They will ask proof of your marriage, and you need to prove that your marriage is a legal and true one, and not only for obtaining the green card. About the savings part, I would suggest you to obtain an I-134 (Affidavit of support) from a friend or family member that lives in the US (and is a legal citizen also).
I do not know the exact savings you should show if you do not have a sponsor, but I hope Simon will answer you shortly!
May 13, 2019 at 11:27
Thanks Jack!
May 13, 2019 at 14:34
@Jack. I don’t know why you asked the question in the first place, and now have raised a number of other things randomly. PLease leave the answering to me.

Hello Mr Simon,
I have a question regarding the police certificate. We issued it on March 5 and it has 3 months validity according to Egyptian authorities. Our interview date is June 9. Will that still be considered valid for the interview date or not taking into consideration the remarks of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo which read the following: “If these three items are all true, you must bring a more recent police certificate to the interview:
1. You are older than 16 years;
2. You obtained a police certificate and submitted it to NVC more than ONE year ago; and
3. You still live in the country that issued the police certificate”.
In other words, do you think the validity of the police certificate is tied to the date it was emailed to KCC on March 6 (and it was valid then) or the interview date (as by interview day it will be expired by 5 days, according to Egyptian authorities)?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
May 13, 2019 at 14:12
Why stress about this? Just get a new one.
May 13, 2019 at 21:32
Thank you! We’ll definitely get new certificates
May 13, 2019 at 09:00

Hi,
1.My dad went to a vocational school and got his diploma ( its considered a highschool diploma + profession ). It was in 1980 when my country was still in the USSR. Ge now has BA diploma. Do you think his highschool degree can cause problems ?
2. Should I translate my brith certificate when submitting DS-260 ( because it’s not in English) ?
Thank you so much for helping people out !
May 13, 2019 at 14:24
1. Possibly, but perhaps he can show work experience. Google “britsimon work experience”
2. You will need it translated at some point.
May 13, 2019 at 09:52
Hello Brit
That means I can write higher secondary School in ds260 form. They will not disqualify me for the mistake done during entry form which I have written bachelor.
May 13, 2019 at 14:27
Use reply or I have no context.
May 13, 2019 at 10:44
Hello simon today we had the interview and consular asked us to provide an I-134 support.. and i want to know that if we could change the sponser ?
May 13, 2019 at 10:49
Which country?
May 13, 2019 at 14:32
Yes. What embassy was that?
May 13, 2019 at 10:55
Hello! I am a DV 2020 lottery winner with 7ХХХth case number. My girlfriend and I have applied and I won. We are now planning to get married ASAP (it doesn’t help that ours is a same sex marriage, which we need to conduct abroad, as our country doesn’t permit it). It may take a month – month and a half to arrange. Do you think I should submit my DS 260 form now and after the marriage takes place amend it, or submitting it in the end of June will not be too late? Thank you!!!
May 13, 2019 at 14:35
It won’t be too late. Get married, then submit.
May 13, 2019 at 10:56
Hi Brit, My interview went well. however consular gave yellow slip (221 – g) and I’m under administrative processing. he has ticked the point of “No further action is currently required on your part. you will be contacted when a final decision has been made or if additional information required for your case”. I doubt whether they have collected my education certificated even though I have submitted the collection card. my interview was postponed 2 times due to the prevailing condition in SL. could you please advice why it had gone to AP?
May 13, 2019 at 14:35
I don’t know.
May 13, 2019 at 10:58
Hi Brit , I am DV-2019 winner. I had my interview on May 2,2019. The consular officer said “your visa is approved”. My questions are 1. How long does it take to get passport & immigrant visa packet back ? 2. My case status has been showing “ready” up to May 8,2019 no update until now. 3. What does that mean ? 4. What should i do? 5. Can i contact the embassy to ask them or just wait a little bit longer ? Thank you so much.
May 13, 2019 at 14:36
Be patient.
May 13, 2019 at 11:15
Hi Brit,
Well done, for your blog, it is very nice and helpfull.
I applied for the DV lottery 2020, and won 🙂 but my issue is that when i applied i applied with my maiden name, because i had got married in august 2018 and i was waiting for my new docs to be issued. But i did declare i was married, the only issue is that now i have my new docs my surname has changed, so now i have my maiden name + marital name.
Im worried because i applied with one name and now have another, can this an issue?
Please help.
Thanks.
May 13, 2019 at 14:36
No problem.
May 13, 2019 at 14:43
So in the DS-260 i should fill in with my new surname, and when i send my docs they will see my marrige certificate, and understand why i changed my surname.
By the way is there a list of docs required for Africa ?
Thanks.
May 13, 2019 at 15:59
The instructions have a list of generic required documents and links to specific requirements by country/embassy.
May 13, 2019 at 12:37
Hi brit. Just to let you know my interview was successful though i was put on AP for a month. Thanks for all the answers and guidelines you gave me. Took out most of the stress. I traveled already to USA and will make a donation as soon as i can.
God bless you
May 13, 2019 at 14:40
I’m glad that worked out well.
May 13, 2019 at 14:31
Dear Dear Brit,
For my employment I am asked to have a foreign passport that contains a temporary I-551 stamp, or temporary I-551 printed notation on a machine readable immigrant visa.
Will I receive that after the interview?
Very Best
May 13, 2019 at 15:57
When they return your passport you will have a one time immigrant visa printed into your passport. When you enter, they stamp that and it becomes a temporary I-551 with a printed notation.
May 13, 2019 at 18:14
what do you mean by one time immigrant visa?
I can’t use it twice to enter the states?
do I need to wait for the green card before leaving the country again?
Very best
May 13, 2019 at 18:18
It is a ONE TIME visa, because after the first use you are a LPR (Lawful Permanent Resident). So – the visa is endorsed to allow travel in/out of the USA, and later you will get a plastic GC.
May 13, 2019 at 18:36
Awesome thank you so much
Many kisses
May 13, 2019 at 14:36
1.Has any Ghanaian won the DV.
2.Or any numerical statistics on the selectees for 2020,yet?
3.Will there be a second run in September to select more selectees?
May 13, 2019 at 15:58
1. That is a silly question. Of course.
2. No
3. No
May 14, 2019 at 13:11
I wanted to ask similar because i have 50 people and no one won
May 14, 2019 at 15:12
That is not unusual.
May 14, 2019 at 13:39
amazing i have not heard of any
May 13, 2019 at 15:53
Dear Dear Brit.
For employment I am asked to show
A foreign Passport that contains a temporary I-551 stamp or temporary I-551 printed notation on a machine readable immigrant visa.
Will I get that after the interview?
Very Best, I will give a donation
Thank you so much
May 13, 2019 at 15:57
Hi Brit,
I want to ask, if you have applied for Green card before and then later you want to apply for F1 student visa because I received an I-20 form from the school,so can it be effective to someone?
What could someone prefer?
Thanks!
May 13, 2019 at 16:08
Strangely worded question. But I think you are asking can the F1 application be affected by the DV case. Yes, if you have submitted the DS260.
May 13, 2019 at 15:59
And on top of that I was selected for 2020 DV lottery.
May 13, 2019 at 16:27
Hi Brit,
hope you’re doing well.
I am a selectee from Asia, with case number 2020AS3XXXX, which I understand that my case number is relatively low for AS region. I was filling up the DS 260 before I came across your website but then now I am a bit stuck and kind of hold back before I actually submit it.
1.) I have a question in regards to “Present work/education/training information” which I will put my education to qualify. I have a Bachelor degree and High school Certificate in Indonesia which I’m assuming that should be fine in regards to the requirement.
on “primary occupation” and I know I read your article but I am still a bit lost, what should I choose between “education” or “business” following your article?
2) then on “do you have any other occupation”, pick “no”, right?
3) I have 2 years of work experiences (1 year different company) and currently been working at a new job for 3 months now which that lead to my actual question, how am I supposed to fill up the “Previous work/education/training information”? should I fill up my current job as well on “previous job” or just choose “No” on “were you previously employed?” but yet I choose education to qualify and not work experience?
hope my question doesn’t confuse you and your answers will be highly appreciate it!
cheers!
May 13, 2019 at 17:39
The number of Xs you list suggest your number is above AS30000. Did you mean your number is AS3000 range, not 30k?
1. These are not trick questions. “Present” means what are you doing now. Are you a student, are you working – really – that is what they are asking.
2. I don’t know you. So – you can answer.
3. OK, so now I know you are working. Again – just read the questions properly, relax, and answer.
You should also be referring to my DS260 guide.
May 13, 2019 at 16:33
Will I get a chance to be selected in October?
May 13, 2019 at 17:40
If you mean will DV2020 have a second draw. No, not likely at all.
May 13, 2019 at 17:02
Hi Brit,
Does the passport of a child who it’s expiring in Jan 2020 has to be renewed before submitting the DS260.
the case number of the mother (The applicant) is 2020AF00062xxx.
Thank you.
May 13, 2019 at 17:41
You have plenty of time to renew. NOTHING will happen on that case before summer 2020. There is no need to rush to submit the DS260 – so slow down…
May 13, 2019 at 17:11
The Best of salutations Sir Brit,
Having carefully followed your directives and instructions, we’re almost through.
This is my main concern right now and I would be glad for the best of your counsels. That is, I am the Principal Applicant, with my wife and 2 kids being the beneficiaries.
Our interview is in first week of June but yet to do medicals.
Mr. Brit, currently I am financially stressed and thus deciding to exclude my beneficiaries from the rest of the visa acquisition process. And should that happens, how do I go about the remaining processes (Medicals and Interview)? Should my beneficiaries still accompany me to the Physician, and the Embassy on our Appointment Days??
Would the Physician, and Consular Officer agree for medical, and visa fees not to be paid on the days of appointment???
Waiting patiently for your response. Thanks.
Yhwh Bless.
May 13, 2019 at 17:45
No you cannot defer the fees. Honestly, this might sound cruel, but if you cannot afford the fees for this life changing opportunity, how on earth will you pay for flights, accommodation and living expenses while you find a job. You need a realistic plan, and if you cannot come up with a good plan, maybe you should not waste the money chasing a dream journey you cannot take.
May 13, 2019 at 22:48
Well said Sir Brit,
The Lord shall help us.
Thanks.
May 13, 2019 at 23:16
Well yeah, if you know a Lord who has lots of money, that would be a great person to ask for help.
May 13, 2019 at 17:21
My husband was selected in Green Card lottery and our family already had an appointment where we were approved. We already crossed the borders of USA (in December 2018). My husband already received his Green Card by post, but mine and daughter’s was sent back to Kentucky as undelivered. We moved to a new address in US and we updated the address in their online system on timely manner, but Kentucky office sent the cards to the old address anyway. That was back in January 2019. We received a letter on February 22nd 2019 saying that our cards will be redelivered as soon as possible. It’s May 2019 and our cards were still not sent to us. I did contact the Immigration center several times by phone and thru the online forms, but no one is getting back to me and no one is able to provide more info. Now the local Health Insurance company is refusing to prove our coverage, because we cannot provide our Alien Green Cards. Me and my daughter (she’s only 15 months old), we still don’t have a heath insurance and we’ve been here since December 2018. It’s a nightmare! Their service center is not helpful at all! It’s really difficult to be here so many months without our Alien Green Cards! No idea how else to contact…. help
May 13, 2019 at 17:50
1. That was obviously going to happen. On my site I make clear that the GCs will be sent to the address on the DS260 and the LAST CHANCE to safely update that is to change the address at the POE.
2. You need to continue to contact USCIS to get your cards.
3. Until you get the plastic cards, your LPR status is easily proven by showing your endorsed visa in your passports. It is valid for up to 1 year after the initial entry,s so that is what you show for health insurance etc. If people do not accept that, politely ask for a manager, so you can explain the endorsed visa. Refer to the link below and print it out if needed. The section that covers your visa is “2. Machine Readable Immigrant Visa (MRIV) with Temporary I-551 notation”
https://secure.ssa.gov/poms.NSF/lnx/0110211025
May 13, 2019 at 19:45
I see. Thank you. Mhm and what happens if we won’t get the cards until the December (that will be 1 year from entry). Cause I keep contacting them and no one ever gave me an update over the phone (they refer me to online service) and online status hasn’t changed since January. It’s a bloody circle of getting nowhere! I even sent a letter to their Service Centre in Texas, I’m so hopeless…
May 13, 2019 at 20:54
It’s May. Calm down.
May 13, 2019 at 18:06

May 13, 2019 at 18:49
Can you change the sponsor on the day of the interview?
May 13, 2019 at 19:11
Yes
May 13, 2019 at 18:58
Hi, I’ve been selected to start the process, I’m Venezuelan but I live in Argentina, I have a big problem, my old passport can not find it, it’s blank because I did not travel in that period. That can prevent the approval of my green card? my case is 2020SA000004xx. Thank you
May 13, 2019 at 19:18
No problem as long as you have a new passport.
May 13, 2019 at 21:39
Thank you. I am starting this journey, your blog is a very useful guide, I will follow all your advice
May 13, 2019 at 19:10
Hi brit, I want to know the case number arrangements. I mean the case number orders arrenged/ranked for only each region, could you know the case number order or arrengemets?? example 2020AF000045xxx, is it number used only African selectee’s?? or is it number used select in over all regions/the world? ? Could you know it? ?

Hi Brit. Thank you very much for your time. I am Iranian and I have interview on 25th June in Dubai. I need to buy my air line ticket as well as book for the accommodation. and I do not know how long should I stay in Dubai for the whole process. Any idea ?
thank you very much indeed.
May 13, 2019 at 21:02
First, are you aware of the travel ban? Do you have some way to not be affected by the ban? If not, you would be wasting your time. *IF* you have a reason to overcome the ban, realistically, I cannot predict how long they would keep you waiting.
May 13, 2019 at 21:21
Is the subscribe working on your site working (below subscribe to blog via email)
I have subscribed but nothing has come for days?
May 13, 2019 at 22:04
I think it works, but I don’t write every day.
May 13, 2019 at 21:49
You seem to know the whole process very well and almost all answers to any question being asked – which is great for users of the website.
But do you have contacts inside the scheme itself for unanswered queries or is there stuff you don’t know at all – how would you answer?
Are you endorsed by the Government – directly or indirectly – or can they give you answers or inside knowledge to queries that you cant solve
Does the Government recognise the work you do and inadvertently endorse you and cheer you on?
Do you yourself phone them and query things and ask if you do not know – do they know you as ‘the guy that does this site’
For example, all the data and table and information you have – isn’t that sort of semi-confidential and how would you come to know that this is right, or that is wrong, and that is official line?
Only asking – not meaning to offend whatsoever – just an observation and a thought?
What you may say to people will be taken as gospel and taken just as that?
Sorry just trying to be devil’s advocate in a constructive way!
May 13, 2019 at 23:10
I understand the question and the intent. I’m not offended.
My advice is not “official” or endorsed by the government. Yes KCC know about my site, and yes I have talked to them on numerous occasions but I don’t have “contacts” in an official or unofficial way. When I call them (which is rarely needed) I explain who I am, and have asked them general questions or sometimes questions and details on specific cases (very very rarely). Regarding the data you say might be semi-confidential, no, nothing I present here is of that nature. For several years I have taken information from the CEAC system and presented data, but that data is already available in the public domain and listed by the government as not copy-write protected. Whether they “cheer me on” or not, I don’t know. I hope they (the staff at KCC) can see I am trying to help, and hopefully they don’t object to my work, but regardless of whether they do or not, I am free to continue for as long as I want to. I’m not breaking any laws and
About stuff I don’t know. There are a few things we can only guess about. In those cases I either make clear this is my assumption or I would say “I don’t know’. I’m not perfect (almost, but not 100%), so I might sometimes forget to point out “assumptions” versus “facts”, but we do have quite a lot of officially sourced documentation that describes the process, the rules and so on. So – none of this is really that complicated.
May 13, 2019 at 22:14
Hi Simon!
Just making sure.
I am about to apply for UK citizenship. I have Latvian passport and we can have a dual citizenship. So can I still participate in DV lottery after I become British citizen?
May 13, 2019 at 23:10
Yes
May 13, 2019 at 23:41
Hi … I would like to know if my number is 20200OC000009XX in the Oceania … Do you think I will get an interview ….
May 13, 2019 at 23:46
Yes.
May 14, 2019 at 00:39
Hi Simon,
I have 2 questions regarding DV Lottery, want to clear my thoughts about this. My wife was selected for this years 2020 lottery.
1. In my country we have 2 major/local languages that 2 biggest nation use. My wife doesnt speak english, she might learn she said as she just started intensively, but if she speaks in her native language (not english) in the interview, will it be a problem for the offficer? Although I’ll also participate as beneficial winner in the interview. What I want to say, is , im afraid she wont learn properly for a interview conversation question-answers until the interview and we have to select which languages she knows on the DS 260 form.
2. if a birth certificate, all valid and official, wasnt issued when the person was born, but later after some years because it happens in the country where I am, the kidds are registered late (but the birth date/place/names/parents all are correct) would it be problem and mean a visa/GC refusal?
greetings,
May 14, 2019 at 00:43
1&2 No problem.
May 14, 2019 at 02:05

May 14, 2019 at 02:08
Hi Brit,
My Case 2020AS15XXX.
VB says currently for may 2019 asia region is processing 7800 and less number of visa applications. didn’t it mean dv lottery case numbers are starting from 7000 to the region? because results are release may 7th.
May 14, 2019 at 02:36
The current VB concerns DV2019. You have around 1 year to wait.

Good day, Simon! Thank you so much for doing this! I – just like the thousands of people who have used your website – really appreciate it!
I have two questions. I did try to find answers to them on your blog and other platforms, but didn’t find what I was looking for. The first question is that my case number is 2020EU445**, which is really high… I reviewed the information you compiled and the data on xarthisius’s blog, and was really heartbroken to see that no visas have ever been issued for such a high number… Is this even worth the effort?..
Another question I have is that we have a nonverbal autistic son. He doesn’t fully understand spoken language, and doesn’t know that roads with cars are dangerous, for instance. Should we answer yes to the question “Do you have a mental or physical disorder that poses or is likely to pose a threat to the safety or welfare of yourself or others?” and write something like “Our son is autistic and does not fully understand spoken language. While he does not pose a threat to the safety of others, he cannot yet fully take care of himself” to explain it? That’s, if it’s even worth the effort to fill out Form DS-260… Thank you!

Regarding numbers read this – https://britsimonsays.com/dv2020-basic-questions/
Regarding your son, I can’t answer for you, but if it were my child I would not be answering yes to that point. I think that would be suggesting a conclusion that is not what they are concerned with.

May 14, 2019 at 13:31
What is the case number?
May 14, 2019 at 15:22
Case number AF14xxx
May 14, 2019 at 16:00
Ok, that is good that it is quite early. You will need time.
The normal/simplest process is that a derivative attends the interview with the principal winner. However, in your case you might not want to leave and affect your asylum case. You might be able to adjust status in the time between your husband being approved and BEFORE he enters, OR he could enter as an LPR and then start a family based petition for you if that was faster than the asylum case. As your case has complexity you need to decide how to handle that working with your lawyer.
May 15, 2019 at 06:34
،thanks for you help;but I have two questions:1_can the adjustment of status done before he enters the us ?2 _what is the LPR?
May 15, 2019 at 13:58
1. Possibly, based on his approved case – but it is not a clear process.
2. Resident of USA

Hi BritSimonSays,
You have a page for Entrants and Winners, is there anything more that Entrants and Losers can do other than check back sometime in October? What could happen by October that might change me from a Loser to a Winner?
May 14, 2019 at 13:32
No chance for DV2020.

Hi Mr.Brit,
My husband was selected for this year DV2020 lottery with the Case Number 2020AS17XXX (ROA), and unfortunately we’ve submitted our DS260 forms before I know about your website.
I have some questions regarding this DV lottery:
1. I just read your FAQ about “What diseases that can cause denial”
I was diagnosed with Lymph Nodes TB at the end of 2018 which was explained by my doctor this lymph nodes TB
isn’t a contagious one, and currently I’m having my treatment until this end of year. And I’ve also already explained it
at my DS260 form, do you ever know someone with the TB case like me who still can get their Visa? Or will I
immediately get a visa denial for my previous lymph nodes TB history?
2. From what I read, our CN is considered pretty high.
But do you think it is still ok or it really is very high and could we possibly get any chance to receive 2NLs?
3. If I’m not wrong, after we submit our DS260 forms, we should wait for about 4-6 weeks to get an email from KCC for
our next instructions to submit our documents isn’t it?
Thank you for your time sir.
May 14, 2019 at 13:36
1. Your treatment will be complete before you can possibly interview, so no problem.
2. Too early to know for sure.
3. You will wait at around a year.
May 14, 2019 at 15:49
Thank you for your reply sir.

Hi Brit,
My Case 2020AS15XXX.
Question 01 – Is there a good chance for winning people who have marital status of single? (which means he or she did not married).
Question 02 – Is there a static PR allocation for each eligible country for the 1NL receivers?
May 14, 2019 at 13:44
1. Cases are judged by whether they meet the requirements, not marital status.
2. I have no idea what you are asking.
May 14, 2019 at 08:30

I am an 18 year old and was adamant that I didn’t want to join my family in the US as my parents won the lottery
I have a very happy life where I am, have friends etc., embarking on University studies
But now my parents and siblings are having their interviews and getting ready to leave altogether, I am having serious second thoughts.
I refused (my parents) to complete my US form or application (something called Form 260) on the website, and had told my parents before that I definitely didn’t want to go, so they did not force me.
Now I am having very serious second thoughts…is it too late? as I haven’t completed anything or furnished all the documents to government authorities ?
May 14, 2019 at 13:59
That is why it is best to treat some 18 year olds as children because they make stupid decisions. It’s a pity your parents listened to what you wanted. If your parents are already interviewed it is too late. It will take 2 years and more complexity to take you to the USA. It will also cost more money than if you had gone with them.
May 14, 2019 at 14:06
i know i was stupid !!!
but interview is yet to take place for them –
its less than a month from now
May 14, 2019 at 15:21
So there might be a possibility. They should contact the embassy and ask if they can add you. They would need to complete the DS260 for you and you would need a medical. But it is entirely up to the embassy.
May 14, 2019 at 13:54
Hi Brit,
Thanks a lot my CASE is 2020AF4xxx
1. Can you please advise when can i submit my DS260
May 14, 2019 at 15:19
Anytime you want. Your number is low so you could have a faster interview if that is what you want (October or November).
May 14, 2019 at 13:57
HI BritSimon,
what really mean by ‘CURRENT ON VISA BULLETIN’.
May 14, 2019 at 15:20
All case numbers can be interviewed. Please read the FAQ.

I cant find to comment to reply to but I was asked why my wife’s visa was denied the in Dublin Ireland.
My wife is a Mexican national and I’m Irish, she previously lived in the US and overstayed her visa for a few years.
Her visa was denied but was told she was eligible to apply for a waiver.
