Hi ! I am au pair in USA, and I won DV lottery 2020. I read that If I have J-1 status Visa I can adjust my status here without leaving USA. I alreday submitted my ds 260 form for dvLottery 2020 with checked: No, I am in the United States and want to adjust status without leaving the United States. Send my case to USCIS. I received confirmation. Few days later I realized that My J-1 status visa will finish in february 2020, so for sure I won’t be able to finish process here in USA. My case number is 2020EU29XXX, so number is pretty far. Do you think that there is any possibility to change place of interview for my native country ?
May 17, 2019 at 23:17
You will have to switch to CP – yes. You can unlock and change your DS260 later – you really should not have submitted it yet. Now, don’t do anything else until you understand what you are doing.
May 17, 2019 at 23:59
Thank you for your respond ! When do you think is the best time to ask about unlock my Ds260 and should I write about this to KCC right ? I was thinking to extend my au pair program for another 9 months that mean until September 2020. If I do that ( I will have my j1 status until September 2020) still I can have Appointment in my nativ country and continue CP ? I think that It will be easier for me to get all documents there.
May 18, 2019 at 03:56
You can decide these things. No need rush.
May 17, 2019 at 22:05
I reading always cerfuly all your post but I don’t understood why higher case numbers are scheduled for interviews, if I comleted my documents April 8-th and they resived me mail like my doc is valid all family members, and my case number was current June. What concepts are they guided by in kcc. Can you explain to me. I want now.
May 19, 2019 at 00:32
Hi BritSimon – I have a question indirectly but directly related to the DV process. I will be a Sponsor for a selectee who has just received confirmation of his documents and should get his interview maybe July/August.
I am a Permanent Resident/Green Card holder for many years. In February I went through the process to renew my Green Card since its expiring in June and you cannot apply more than 6 months from the expiration. As of yet I do not have my renewed Green Card.
Do you know if I can get some kind of temporary card if I don’t have the new one by the time of his interview? And if so, will this suffice at his interview or could it negatively affect his interview if I don’t have my new Green Card or temporary one, by the time of his interview. I do plan on contacting the INS as I keep getting emails to say they have no updates yet on my case.
Appreciate your input – thanks!
May 19, 2019 at 00:56
Your GC won’t matter to the case.
May 19, 2019 at 01:07
REALLY??!! WOW – thanks for such a quick answer – I appreciate it!
I thought my Permanent Resident status (up-to-date) would be crucial). because I would have thought if it was expired waiting for renewal – they have no way of knowing if u haven’t committed a crime while ur waiting for the Renewal (which naturally would disqualify him). Not that I have!

I have a question regarding my education., I fill that I have a university degree when I send my entry in DV 2020 and now when I filled my DS-260 I added my advance university degree – MBA – which I had on 2015. Will this can disqualify me. Also if I reopen my DS-260 form and change the education to just university degree and resubmit it. Will this be bad move to do
Awaiting your kind reply.
May 19, 2019 at 15:45
It’s not a problem. No need to change.

May 17, 2019 at 23:19
1. Yes
2. Wherever you live
3. After the birth – no need to rush.
You will BOTH need to meet the education requirement as you charged to her country.
May 17, 2019 at 22:20
I call in kcc that sed interview will be July, I think Ed they resived me 2NL but again nothing. I don’t have more patience i’m So tiered and tiered my percents to.
May 17, 2019 at 22:32
I followed all instruction from KCC center and did not understand what else I needed to do to get an interview in time.
May 17, 2019 at 22:53
STOP POSTING QUESTIONS!!!! You have posted 6 or 7 questions in the last few hours alone! Stop!
CALM DOWN. You have WEEKS to prepare. Once you get your 2NL you will take action. Just follow the instructions.
May 17, 2019 at 23:02
Thank you for the super helpful blog and all the guidelines you put together! My question is regarding future visa applications (both immigrant and non-immigrant visas), will I be ineligible for U.S government sponsored programs or have any visa application refused on the basis of immigration intent? (as a DV lottery selectee who already submitted the DS-260 online application but who may not go through the GC process..)
I greatly appreciate any help you can provide!
May 17, 2019 at 23:21
Any future non immigrant applications will be more difficult because of the declared immigrant intent. Not impossible, just harder.
May 17, 2019 at 23:39

How much cash we are allowed to carry to us in dv visa?
May 18, 2019 at 13:05
Read the FAQ on that subject.
May 18, 2019 at 05:47
hi
I chose the wrong option in the wrong part
Should I unlock?
Do I differentiate between my interview date and my spouse and child who are in my case?
Do I not need to unlock and get the documents on the same day? Is it enough?
May 18, 2019 at 13:11
Your questions are very unclear. I don’t know what mistake you made. You can unlock if you want.
Your child will interview with you.
May 18, 2019 at 06:06
Hi Brit.
I submitted my documents on 12th March and my case supposed to be current in April (2019AS64xx)
I made an inquiry with KCC whether my documents have been processed. The reply was general and stated DS260 is processed and a very general information on Documents to be submitted.
Does that mean I have to resubmit the documents?
If I send the docs again, will be interview get postponed?
( I am really sorry for troubling, I am exercising patience, but little paranoid when I didn’t get the NL2 last month since I fulfilled the criteria in your visa bulletin release article)
Thanks for your support. Really appreciate it 🙂
May 18, 2019 at 13:12
It means they did not accept your documents and will not schedule an interview until they have them. Send them again asap. Follow the instructions carefully. A few days later ask them if they are satisfied with the documents.
May 18, 2019 at 16:54
I sent them as they had instructed. Is there any common mistake that you know, for them to not accept the documents? (ex: the way filed are named, How we write our case number in the subject? And etc? )
I sent again.. Just wanted to know what could make them to not accept the docs. So that I don’t make the same mistake again.
Thanks a lot Sir!
May 18, 2019 at 19:09
I don’t know if there is a “common” mistake.
May 18, 2019 at 08:04

Hi
My husband CN 2020AF00014xxx and his passport will expire on September 2020;and that mean he have to enter the US before March since they require 6 month validity after the travel; so what do yo think he have to renew his passport and then fill the DS260? Or no problem
May 18, 2019 at 13:34
Submit the DS260 with the current passport. Renew the passport nearer the interview and take old and new passports to the interview.
May 18, 2019 at 09:27
Hello Simon,
When registering for Green Card Lottery I filled “City were you born” field my village name, as I thought the field needed my birthplace name. In my certificate my birth place is the nearest city, as I was born in that city hospital. But now, as I understand, I should fill the city name as in my birth certificate. In my passport the address is the village address. And I have been selected selected for further processing in the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program.
1. Is it a problem that while registering for the program, I filled the “City were you born” field my village name but not as in my birth certificate?
2. What I should fill in my DS-260 form for proper documentation regarding my addresses?
May 18, 2019 at 13:34
1. No
2. Match the birth cert
May 18, 2019 at 10:18
Hello Brit I have one last question and I need your suggestion
My interview will be on July 16 in Belgrade, my passport that I sent to KCC as a document (biodata page) will expire on 11 November 2019! Would you suggest for me to get a new passport (since it says the passport should be valid at least 6 months beyond the intended date of entering the US) and take both my new and old passport to the interview?
May 18, 2019 at 13:38

Hi Brit,
First of all thank you for all that you do to help DV Lottery winners each year. We really appreciate it. I had couple of questions.
My dad just got selected in DV2020 but we realized that when we filled out the original entry form, under the Highest level of education you have achieved: we had selected “University Degree” instead of “Some university courses”. I just found out that my dad actually was 1 final exam away from graduating with a university degree before he dropped out. Is that going to automatically disqualify him?
Also, my parents have traveled to the US under the non immigrant visa before, when filling out the DS260 form, do all the info need to match from when they filled out the DS160 form?
I really appreciate your help on this. Thanks!
May 18, 2019 at 14:41
No he won’t be disqualified IF he meets the education requirements.
Answers should be as accurate as possible and truthful.
May 18, 2019 at 14:35

Hello Simon,
My interview is scheduled for June 6 and according to just about everyone, Eid will fall on 5th and 6th (lunar calendar based). Embassy website has listed June 4 & 5 as tentative Eid holidays.
Do you think the embassy will reschedule me or should I prompt them about it? I may be low key freaking out about the uncertainty…
Thanks, as always.

I sent documents mid April without receiving the mail to submit documents, three weeks later kcc sent me the mail asking for documents, I sent the documents again on the 8th of May, and till date I’ve not received the mail to say the documents are OK. I have called kcc and they verified that the documents have been received but that my ds260 is not yet processed, and that I will get a mail as soon as it is finished processing. Its been a week again and I’ve not gotten any further correspondence from them. Case number is 40***, ds 260 submitted late October last year. What can possibly be the problem? And what can I do now?
May 18, 2019 at 16:05
Wait another week or two, then ask again.

Hi Brit my question is can CN which current in July and sent supporting documents via email but just got auto reply they received and processing have a interview schedule? ( got 2NL and sent package to USCIS )
I’m a little bit worry now
And have sent email to ask them if they need anything else or satisfied but I got this back
From KCC:
Thank you for your inquiry.
After sending documents to [email protected], you will receive an automatic reply to your email. If there are no attachments, the auto reply explains there are no documents attached to the email. If there are attachments, the auto reply explains we received your email and are currently processing your documents. Please allow time for processing of your documents. Documents are processed in numerical order, based on lottery rank number. Once KCC has processed your documents, we will let you know if anything is missing or if we have received everything needed.
Or I just should wait and wait and wait?
Thank you

Good evening nice/kind man,
I am a dv2020 winner I entered as a widow with one child, I got married later but my wife is my boss and she has two kids, we got married in early January. But she doesn’t know I won. I red here adding an existing child is ground for disqualification, I am really confused because our wed is genuine and she helped me a lot so I can not be ungrateful nevertheless we didn’t play at the initial entry.
Please explain me can I do without being disqualified with her kids already existed
May 18, 2019 at 23:37
You got married later (after the entry), correct? If so, no problem you add your spouse and step children to your application using the add applicant feature on the DS260.

Hello BritSimon,
I meet education requirement of the dv program. I dropped out of a PhD program in august 2018. I have been unemployed since then due to self-change of my speciality. In DS260, I have honestly mentioned that I am unemployed. By the time of my interview, it will be 1 year since I have become unemployed. Can be my unemployed status be a problem for receiving a visa? I will be able to demonstrate that I have about $20k in my bank account.
May 19, 2019 at 04:26
Not really.
May 19, 2019 at 05:08
Hello Brit,
I have couple of questions.
1. What if my sponsor cant meet the income requirement to sponsor me?
2. What should be the exact amount to sponsor me if me and my sponsor both of us are single?
(I already asked you 2. Question I also visited given website but I couldn’t figured it out exact amount to show for single applicant by single sponsor so I hope you will give me exact amount) (my sponsor live among 48 contiguous states) sorry to bother you again for same question but really I tried.
3. Can I get disqualified if my sponsor doesn’t meet income requirement?
4. Do income requirement changes every year,if yes then by how much?
Thank you.
May 19, 2019 at 14:25
1. That sponsor is then useless.
2. It’s not hard. Try harder.
3. See 1
4. Oh my. THe charts are published each year. Go and read.

May 19, 2019 at 15:58
Irina. I’m sorry, but I really think you are missing the point of my blog. I have written hundreds of articles to guide people. They are all available and searchable. I have links that explain how to search and even a video that show you how to search. The most commonly asked questions are listed in a simple to read FAQ, which is linked from every single page on my blog. You have been reading my site for 6 months and have asked over 50 questions. Do you really not understand why I get frustrated when you ask questions such as this without spending a few minutes of your own to read the articles I wrote specifically about the subject. If you can’t be bothered to do any reading or logical thinking for your Green Card, then why should I do the work for you?
May 19, 2019 at 19:26
In FAQ answers not gives me full information. Because I told you my firs great was 9 after I finished college and college gives me 2 documents one college diploma and seconone high school sertificat. I ask you is this okay will be for consulate. I scring because 10 years I play green card lottery and this year was for me heppy year. I don’t want to be wrong, English is not my native language and not everything is always is clear to me, you just answer shortly okay or not.
May 19, 2019 at 19:39
You just ignored what I said. The CO will give you an answer.
May 19, 2019 at 14:39
If I have 3 different education document high school atestat college diploma and university diploma will be inaf or need work experience to I am so sorry if I ask you this question 2 times.

Hi Simon,
First of all I would like to thank you for taking the time for posting all this valuable info.
I was selected for the diversity visa for the fiscal year 2020. I have sent my D260 form and received a confirmation by email. So I’m wondering what are the next steps in this case and how much time do I have?
– The confirmation email states that I need:
1. Obtain required supporting civil documents. (what documents exactly?)
2. Obtain photographs that meet the Department of State’s visa requirements.
3. Review the information specific to the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General where your visa interview will
occur.
My questions:
1: Do I need to wait until I hear about my interview (how long does that usually take?) to supply all the documents needed? Or I need to get these documents once I have a confirmation for an interview slot?
2. Knowing that my number is high (2020 AF 67,263) Does that mean my interview will be very late? How long you reckon I will need to wait based on the visa Bulletin.
Looking forward your advise.
Thanks,
Adnan
May 19, 2019 at 17:40
Your number is very high so you will wait over a year, and perhaps never get an interview. You should not have sent the DS260 so early. You have plenty of time to figure out the process. Read the guide linked above, and read my FAQ and basic questions articles.
May 19, 2019 at 18:01
What happens if I sent ds260 today (CN41°°°) what do you thing is high number but tell me should I do it or should I wait

From 1 to 10, what are my chances? Is there anything I could do to be more lucky with getting a slot at an interview?
Would it be possible to hold my application until due time? Maybe I can cancel my DS260 form and resubmit it again?
Thanks,
Adnan

You cannot cancel your submission of the DS260.
I cannot estimate chances. It is too soon to know. You must be patient.

Thank you so much Simon,
I can’t believe how prompt you are with answering our questions. I am sure lot of people here, including me are super grateful for your help.
I tried to understand your theory from previous articles and apparently it would depend on the visa bulletin. Excuse my ignorance but Ive always had problems with math! terrible schools over here! haha 🙂
Questions: When would we have those number for 2020 application? And how can I figure out if I’ll get a chance for an interview or not?
Yours,
Adnan

Hello Simon,
I forgot to change my mailing address upon arrival at NY airport. What can I do now?
Because, the address I showed on DS260 is old now, still the same person but different address he moved. I am afraid of losing my actual green cards to be honest.
However, my friend saying that it is ok that he has updated his US Postal address, so it will be forwarded to new address.
Please advise.
Thank you Simon.

Your GC may not be forwarded, because your friend would have forwarded mail for HIS name, not yours. You can change your address with the online form (USCIS) or even contact them, but your card will probably be sent to the old address.

Hi dear BritSImon,
I am in complicated situation, please advise me to find answers, please.
My parents are winners of 2019 DV. Their DS 260 was completed by “Agent” on May 2018. I have not been familiar with the process and being in rush they did so. Case N is EU27***. Two weeks ago I started reading your posts and followed your instruction and send the documents to KCC. Today I decided to check their DS 260 and found some mistakes. Let me mention them and please advise me what to do, to ask them open the form in this chaotic situation, since they could start reviewing it, or not?
1. My mother’s living place was inaccurate, mentioned that she lived only on that address, address where she lives today with my father, whereas she used to live with her parents long time after 16. Also there is mistake on that date 1975 instead of 1985.
2. There is a problem with my father’s name in native language, a letter mistake
3. My father has Social Security Number, but the agent mentioned NO
4. There are also issues with phone number and name mistakes in USA relatives, (where you will live question)
I know the situation is tricky, however, what is your opinion dear friend, to ask for making corrections or to wait? Also can I call them behalf of them about case?

Nothing significant. Tell them to correct those things at the interview.

Thank you so much for quick response. One more point about their application. There is mentioned that the Agent helped them to fill the application and also the agent put her email on it, could it cause any problems? Thanks.

Possibly. Using an agent represents a risk.
