Hello Simon currently in the us but applied as single the dv now I would like to bring in my girlfriend and son. Need some advice from you.
June 4, 2019 at 19:16
Is the son your child? If so, and he was born prior to the DV lottery entry, did you include him on your entry?
June 4, 2019 at 19:22
He was born after selection and he is my son
June 4, 2019 at 19:23
Meaning he was born after entry
June 4, 2019 at 20:19
OK – are you processing an adjustment of status case? Are you DV2019 or DV2020? You need to make your position clear.
June 4, 2019 at 20:26
I received my visa in 2018 September and am already in the US but during all processing I applied as a single due to limited knowledge because I had started it as a single in the initial application
June 4, 2019 at 20:32
Ahhh OK.
So – you will need to file I-130 for each of them (which takes about 2 years). To bring your girlfriend you need to marry her first, then file the I-130.
June 4, 2019 at 20:51
Hey Brit!
I’m glad Inquiring from you again.
I enjoy following up with your blog and thanks that it’s so good. My simple question is.
1. My wife wants a divorceand yet I already submitted my ds260 indicating about our marriage. Will this be a problem to me?
2. How can i over come it if she applies for it?
June 4, 2019 at 21:57
1. You are married until you are divorced. But obviously your wife will not want to be on your process. So – you might need to proceed without filing a DS260 for her, OR you simply don’t continue her case if you have already submitted the DS260.
2. I don’t know.
June 5, 2019 at 06:17
Thank you so much Brit! You’re such an angel.
1. So, just stopping with her case and not proceeding with her 2nl when it comes won’t lead to my disqualification?
2. Will I need to show divorce papers on the time of interview?
Thank you in advance.
June 5, 2019 at 13:22
1. No
2. That would be ideal.
June 5, 2019 at 18:15
Thank you Brit!
Your help means a lot to us.
I read the blog you sent me about the i-134 (affidavit of support).
My sponsor is a family member (Aunty) and and the one I trust though they’re many there. She doesn’t meet all the requirements listed though my other family members there in the US meet.
Advise me here please.
1. if they can make a joint sponsorship for me.
2. If I have to change sponsor.
Thank you!
June 5, 2019 at 19:07
1. No
2. Yes.
June 5, 2019 at 20:05
Okay thank you please.
And Finally, How can I change the sponsor after submission of DS-260?
June 5, 2019 at 20:53
You can unlock and change your DS260 if needed, or update at the interview.
June 6, 2019 at 21:54
Hey Brit!
Hope you’re doing fine.
I have realized that I made a mistake when filling about my Education. I filled up stating that I studied to Highschool degree but yet I have it’s equivalent. Right now I’m at University just concluded with my Diploma. Totaling up to 14years of study.
1. What should I do?
June 7, 2019 at 00:36
If you are DV2020, unlock and make it accurate.
June 4, 2019 at 21:20

If he is a Green Card holder, that is a “permanent resident”.
June 4, 2019 at 22:52
Hello Brit
I’m really worried those day.
In 2019 Dv winner my case number is 25900 according to the visa bulletin my interview should be on June but i still didn’t get any second letter، I don’t get it why bigger case numbers has the visa.
I’m worried I will never get the chance for the interview.
PS: I submitted the ds 360 on December 2018 and received documents confirmation on May 1st 2019
I DNT know if it has something to deal with my ds submission date.
Please tell me do u think I should call kcc or just wait
I’m afraid I won’t get a 2nl for August
Thank you Brit
June 4, 2019 at 23:15
You should check whether KCC are satisfied with your documents.
June 5, 2019 at 00:23
hi Britt,
i am a Dv2020 selectees of Oceania Region, would it be possible for a 2020OC18** to get through to interview??
1. When its on current, will chances be given to other rank numbers like mine.
sorry for this because i want to confirm whether to submit my DS260 or not.
June 5, 2019 at 00:45
It is too early to know whether your number will get a chance or not. For that reason I advise you to wait before submitting your ds260. We will know more in a couple of months.
June 5, 2019 at 05:40
Hello sir ,
Thanking you for giving me your advice .
June 5, 2019 at 10:56
Hello, please am on AP and mistakenly did the scrapping system, later I realise am not part of that. Please what should I do or can you help me out.
June 5, 2019 at 13:31
Scraping has no connection to your case.
June 5, 2019 at 15:32
Hi Simon,
I’ve been selected for further processing for the DV2020, when the results came out, we decided to get married so we can go together (we’ve been living together for 4 years just didn’t see the need for marriage on paper till now).
I still haven’t started with the DS260. Still reading your guides…I just want to be prepared to do it right the first time.
Now, in your guide on how to do it, in the first paragraph of the last part: “Submitting the form.” You say:
“OK so you have completed your form. You do the same for each derivative (family member).”
My questions are:
1.Can the DS260 forms be completed separately for me and my wife (ex. first mine and after a few days hers), or does it have to be completed all at once (once you begin it has to be completed)?
2.Is my wife’s DS260 identical to mine or is it maybe a shortened version? I mean in terms of her work/education/address history. I have all my personal documents ready, but she might need to collect a few more if the forms are identical.
Thank you for writing this blog it has been very informative and a perfect guide for us! I will be recommending it for sure!
June 5, 2019 at 16:36
1. You can work on them and save as you go. I suggest submitting them at the same time.
2. She answers pretty much the same questions. The form is somewhat dynamic, so they may not be identical because the two of you are not identical. The forms you collect are the same.
You haven’t mentioned your case number (with year and region). If it is high, you should not rush to submit the DS260.
June 8, 2019 at 18:15
My Case number is 2020EU00018950.
I started filling up the form today but I’m stuck at the previous employment/education page because the site keeps crashing. It won’t save anything I input on this page, however the previous pages work fine and the info has been saved.
I’ve tried using Internet Explorer 11, latest google chrome and microsoft edge and followed the recommended browser settings (javascript, tls enabled) to no avail, and I’ve tried wifi and ethernet connections but I keep getting the same error: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/8P9mZNIf414/hqdefault.jpg
After this appears I have to login again and start over.
I’m filling up all the fields for previous employment and for higher education.
Am I doing something wrong or is the website unstable?
June 8, 2019 at 19:44
Enter some details (such as some schools), then save.
June 5, 2019 at 16:10
I have a question
When I was submitting my entry form
The person made a mistake with my first name
Instead of MATTHEW JACOBS they put METEEGAR JACOBS
And my WAEC bears my MATTHEW JACOBS
My question is, will it cause a problem if I fill in the ds260 form with my real name MATTHEW JACOBS?
June 5, 2019 at 16:41
Well obviously fraud will be a concern, they may suspect multiple entries. The names are not even close to each other. But, if you want to proceed you must enter the correct name on the DS260.
June 5, 2019 at 16:26
Hello Brit! How are you?
I am Dv2019 winner and I send my documents to KCC on 30th Aprill and they send me an automatic reply “Records indicate you have submitted a complete and valid DS-260 application for each family member, and you have provided all required documentation …. ” like you said. On 2nd June , I send them an email ” Are you satisfied…” to KCC like you said and they send me not an automatic reply the same answer that “Records indicate you have submitted a complete and valid DS-260 application for each family member, and you have provided all required documentation…” . Is this a positive answer or not?
June 5, 2019 at 16:41
Yes.
June 5, 2019 at 18:24
Sir,
About the question to list all addresses where I had lived since I turned sixteen, I lived in several places but the same country should I list them all or what?
June 5, 2019 at 19:08
Yes – if they were places you actually lived (i.e. not just for 2 or 3 week visits).
June 5, 2019 at 18:42
Hey brit, I have received my second letter. My interview is scheduled on the first week of July and my sponsor have changed their apartment on June.
How do I change the address ? Should I email KCC and give them new address before My interview date??
June 5, 2019 at 19:09
No – change at the interview.
June 17, 2019 at 14:38
hey, I will do that in interview by taking new sponsor I 134 form and other required sponsor’s documents.
I have my brother in law who has just received green card in June 2019. I’m thinking of keeping he as a sponsor. Is it fine?
P.S my interview is scheduled on July 8,2019.
June 5, 2019 at 19:12

June 5, 2019 at 19:18
In 2019, there was no selectee with a number like yours. As for 2020, we have to wait until we kjnow more in the next couple of months.

June 5, 2019 at 20:14
hi britt,
today I asked to add my husband as an applicant but I have not sent my complete form yet. When I added it, he asked me for his information and this message came to me:
“we are processing your request, it may take up to 60 minutes to add the applicant to your case. please return to this site at a later time to access the ds-260 of the newly added applicant”
Does not interfere with anything that I have not yet completely filled out my application?
June 5, 2019 at 20:51
No problem.
June 5, 2019 at 21:02
Hi, when it comes to proofing financial security, is it acceptable if I show that I have more than $10,000 in my bank account (it’s just me), even if that money has just recently been deposited to my account from by my parents?
June 5, 2019 at 21:18
The reaction to that would vary by embassy, by CO and the case being considered. Read about the I-134 in the FAQ.
June 5, 2019 at 21:04

June 6, 2019 at 02:51
Hi Brit,
I have two questions:
1. My husband is a winner of DV2020, we have submitted our applications in early May. Once we have unlocked and corrected data. Few days ago my husband wrote to KCC to unlock again (his and mine). He made amendments to his previous work section. I have only completed social media section, as other data was correct. But before submitting we noticed that all his previous work data is reflected also in my application and my data was lost. There was a server error yesterday and the site worked hard. We have emailed the issue to KCC and still have no reply. Do we need to take further action like correct my data before KCC replies?
2. There is a statement in ds260 “if your case in being processed electronically send the scanned documents to KCC”. If we have not received the instructions yet, shall we send the documents anyway?
Thank you.
June 6, 2019 at 03:07
1. You should correct the data.
2. No it is too early. Patience.
June 6, 2019 at 04:06
Thank you! You mean I should not wait for their reply and correct it right now, yes?
June 6, 2019 at 04:30
You can try.
June 6, 2019 at 03:23
Hi Brit, firstible I would like to Thank you so much for your help.
I got my green card few months ago and I would like to work as a flight attendant for airline (in my country).
Do you think that it’s can be a problem?
I will visit in USA every month, but it’s will be for a short time every trip.
Thank you so much!
June 6, 2019 at 03:49
So you will not be establishing a residence in the USA which can lead to questions about whether you are taking your resident status seriously.
June 6, 2019 at 03:25
My case number is 2019AS60##
My interview is already scheduled but I have to make some correction on my ds260.
What should I do plz advise
June 6, 2019 at 03:48
You cannot correct the form now, do it at the interview.
June 6, 2019 at 04:53

Dear Simon
2019 DV selectee
Recently I received an email from xxxxx (name of city)@state.gov
and was written that your interview date is changed to 25 june, but in CEAC site it is still on 9 june.
my question is :
1- Is that email address trusty?
2- why the interview date in not changed in CEAC site?
Thanks
June 6, 2019 at 13:52
1. Well you hid the email address! The domain is correct.
2. That is normal.
June 6, 2019 at 12:38
Sir,
We have been schedul for 27 June, and today I found Dakar embassy added new forms on my DS 260 they added each form for my three step children , but my husband and I we mentioned they will join us later.
My question do we have to fill their forms nevertheless they won’t go now with us in case if we qualify. Help I am confused.
Am the principal applicant
June 6, 2019 at 13:56
No need to fill in the extra forms.
June 6, 2019 at 14:31
Hi Brit,
I interchanged my children’ and my names during DV entry, if l fill in correctly in the DV260 shall be penalised?
June 6, 2019 at 15:56
Well you MUST fill in the DS260 correctly. Normally, they forgive this sort of mistake IF there are no fraud concerns.
June 6, 2019 at 14:43
Dear Sir,
First am glady to announce you that I won DV2020, friend who followed your blog and travelled already in USA gave me this link. Your blog is very rich.
I have question, during entering DV it is written failure to list all members is ground for disqualification. I added all my family members(my wife, two kids and I) but before result my wife passed away and during April 2018 I regot married with my wife’s little sister as our tradition state it in our community. But my new wife was a widowed also with two kids. Now how can do handle with these new kids.
1- Knowing according your blog adding pre-existing child will disqualify how can I do because I don’t want to lie
2- Is there any problem adding or non ?
Please help me I am worry.
PS my weddig is genuine no doubt and if they verify via social media they will see all evidence from the death of my first wife until to this marriage.
Forwading looking hearing from you
June 6, 2019 at 16:04
I think you mean you remarried in April 2019, not 2018. .
If the marriage is legal and genuine, there is no problem. You can add your wife and her children as they are now your step children.
June 7, 2019 at 04:27
Dear Simon!! It has not even been a year that my sponsor has married. So, he is planning for his wife to US. But he has still not submitted I-864 for his wife. Can i take his sponsorship?
June 7, 2019 at 14:33
Yes
June 7, 2019 at 04:55
Dear brit
i have been scheduled for july 2019
my question is my sponser filled tax of 2018 on last of may 2019 ,is this 1040 income tax return valid or is there any time bound for tax filling ? he can sponser on me or not?
June 7, 2019 at 14:34
Yes he can.
June 7, 2019 at 05:17
dear brit
another question she lived us more than 6-7 years but got green card 1 year only. can she sponsor me or not?
June 7, 2019 at 14:34
Yes
June 7, 2019 at 05:34
Hi brit,
I already submitted DS260 application. But my spouse got job offer in another country. In this situation, do I need to change his new job details and his new address in DS260? If yes, do I ask KCC to unlock my application?
June 7, 2019 at 14:36
Once he has actually moved, yes unlock.
June 7, 2019 at 10:59
Hi Smon. Son is F1 student with 2019OC # current. He completed DS260 and I 485 has been sent, receipted, and he is awaiting biometric appointment. # has just come current for June release. Recommendations please on process he should follow to expedite before Sept cut off. Thanks.

My personal information i.e Name, Date of birth was not changed. Is this ok to take the new certificate as i dont have the old one now
June 7, 2019 at 14:57
Sounds like you don’t have a choice.
June 7, 2019 at 13:38
Hi Brit,
My interview is on 1st July 2019 and my case no. Is 35***. I lost my birth certificate ( the one I had submitted electronically to Kentucky) and I got a new one. I am afraid it might bring issues during the visa interview because it is not the document I had submitted. Kindly advise if it might be a reason to land me in Administrative Processing or what can I do before the interview to avoid visa denial/AP.
June 7, 2019 at 15:05
All you can do is show the document you have.
June 8, 2019 at 09:31
Thanks alot for the feedback.
June 7, 2019 at 16:23

June 7, 2019 at 16:51
Hi Sir Brit,
Kindly permit me to share my interview experience here in Accra on Thursday June 6.
We (me, wife, and 2 kids) were scheduled to report at 7:30 am, and we arrived as early as 6:00 am (better to be earlier on time than late you know). Waited at a place close to the embassy until we were called at 7:30. We were called, presented our Interview Appointment Letter. A personnel crosschecked from a list of scheduled appointments, and there and there our names were listed. We then proceeded through a security checkpoint to ensure there were no forbidden items (let me advise here that everyone go to the embassy with only Required Items). We then went further to the Interview Section Area.
A second time another personnel demanded our Letter of Appointment, collected it for filing. We were then directed to wait in a Waiting Place for the next instruction. Within a few minutes, all appointees were invited to a particular window where an officer gave a brief Orientation on the process. The next process was payment of Visa Fee $330 for each of the four of us (let me share here that, the Embassy in Accra accepted the Ghanaian CEDI’s equivalent. We had our fees already in US$). Receipt of payment was presented to the officer who received our Interview Letter to confirm our readiness for the interview.
The next step was presentation of required documents: passports, birth certificates, Confirmation Page, School documents, professional proofs, photographs (2 each), and sealed medical reports. (I carried a photo album of our marriage ceremonies, our children’s naming ceremonies, and you won’t believe how impressed the consular Officers were with the photographs, marriage certificate (original and 2 photocopies – unfortunately I had only 1 copy so an officer had to write a note added to my wife’s passport and that permitted her to go out of the Embassy to go make a photocopy). NB: Beside the passports and Confirmation page, all documents must be the original and photocopies.
We waited a while, and then invited for the real interview with the Consular Officer (our experience was basically an interaction, the most wonderful I would say). In less than 10 minutes, it was over. The viewing of our photo albums took the most time because the Officer with two other ones were enjoying the family moments… hahahaha…
The Final statement by the Officer was “Mum and Dad, I’m happy to announce to you that you have been granted visas for a stay in the United States of America.” He then handed us a paper that contains instructions on how to pick up our passports… (He then wrote in ink a direction to go visit ‘Apioo Grill and Bar’ in Washington DC for a Treat when we arrive in the US), because we mentioned we would be staying in Virginia when asked. And he was like Washington isn’t far from Virginia, so we should go have a nice Treat in that Bar…..
Details of Interview:
1. What work do you intend doing in the US.
2. Have we been married before.
3. How many kids do we have.
4. What I my currently doing.
5. Where do you intend staying.
That was all.
Please Note:
We went well prepared with our Affidavits of Support Documents but that was not asked for.
Secondly I was able to change the recipient address of where our Green Cards should be forwarded at the Embassy.
June 7, 2019 at 17:37
Thank you GH Boy very much for sharing your experience, and to some great detail and joy. It is greatly appreciated. I wish you the best wishes, you seem very deserving. It must be an exciting time. Good luck.
Kind regards.
June 7, 2019 at 17:38
Thank you GH boy for sharing
I received an email from US embassy and it was written to not bring your children under 14 to interview,
Did you bring your child to interview in the embassy?
Thanks in advance

Your kids are a part of the process and are supposed to be part of the interview.

Hi Simon, Is it possible for me as primary applicant to enter for the initial entry without my wife and daughter who are my derivatives? If so does it cause any complications for them entering for the first time without me being present?
June 7, 2019 at 18:05
No problem, but they must enter before their visas expire.

My visa interview was held on last week. Interview was going on very well. But, I am still working on army. At the interview CO requested resignation letter from the army. Within this week I hope to request the resignation letter from the army. But according to our country low, the resignation process will take two months. Is there any risk about complete the 50000 visa issuance within next two months?

The visas won’t run out BUT there will be some additional delay when you submit the letter., because the embassy will have to contact KCC for a new visa for you. So – don’t waste time.

I was asked about my relationship with the sponsor though i was introduced to him by one of my friends some few weeks to interview since I could not get someone reliable to sign the i134 form. I simply mentioned that he is a family friend but I am suspecting the CO was not convinced about our friendship and I was put on AP.
These were her words “I am putting you on further administrative processing but keep checking your mail I will send you further questions and instructions on how to return your passport as soon as possible once the process is complete”.
I also provided I134 for the host but the income was below poverty guideline given the family size but it seems she overlooked this even though the host was my relative.
my question is: should my relationship with the sponsor be an issue to an extent of being put on AP or she would have just told me to go and look for another sponsor?
I must say that the CO was too serious unlike stories that I read from this blog about friendly COs

Ap can be required for that or many other reasons.

The rest of my documents were in order, so i think my relationship with the sponsor is the reason.

hello brit
Our sponcer was reluctant to give us the affidavit of support therefor we have found another sponcer. In the ds260 we mentioned previous sponcer’s address.my question is for our medical test they are asking about a US address so which address should we provide? The one we mentioned on ds260 or the new sponcer’s address?
Waiting for a reply ?

You can decide.
June 8, 2019 at 03:12
@brit will it be a problem if change the US address at medical?
June 8, 2019 at 03:46
No, but you need to tell the embassy to change the address.

Hello Simon, I am DV2017, I activated my visa in May 2018, I made my first entry in March 2019 and I returned for my daughter to finish her school year, and I re-entered with her in May 2019, before it was fulfilled the year since activation.
The question is :
When they begin to count the months that you stay in the country, since you make the first entry? that is, in my case in March 2019? or is it the natural year?
Thank you very much
June 7, 2019 at 20:45
That’s not a DV lottery concern. I only answer DV lottery questions.
