June 21, 2019 at 03:55

One would ask KCC if they are satisfied with the documents to be sure that you could get scheduled.
If they have already said you are ready to be scheduled – YOU ALREADY HAVE THE ANSWER!!!

Hello Mr Simon,
My interview is coming up, and I have submitted all my documents to the embassy. My question is that I have an old passport( I used the new one in completing the DS-260). Should I take it with me to the interview?
June 20, 2019 at 18:21
Take it. The extra weight should not be a problem.
June 20, 2019 at 16:29
Hi brit, thank you for your work,
I went for medical appoint for dv 2019 and I got disappointed in that am hiv + and they require a sputum test which takes 8weeks to get results, so my visa appointment has to be rescheduled due to that, am just wondering if I have any chance of getting another appointment really, the earliest should last week of August, that is if the test turns negative, i thought they do not deny people who are Hiv +, coz i have no TB. At this point I have lost hope but just reaching out if there might be any chance.
June 20, 2019 at 18:30
HIV is no long a disease that causes disqualification. That is in the FAQ. READ THE FAQ.
June 20, 2019 at 18:17
Hi BritSimon, I submitted my DS260 form with case 2020AF13XXX but I noticed and error on the form. How can I correct the problem.
June 20, 2019 at 19:17
Read the FAQ about unlocking.
June 22, 2019 at 05:04
Hello brits i have one question, my friend enter to US as a refusee and now his green card is approved can i take him as a sponsor?
June 22, 2019 at 14:24
If he is earning and paying taxes, yes.
June 20, 2019 at 19:36
What am saying is, is it necessary to ask kcc if they are satisfied with my documents after haven received the ready for scheduled mail?
June 20, 2019 at 20:24
” after haven received the ready for scheduled mail?”
haven??? What does that mean? You got the email or not?
June 21, 2019 at 07:08
I got the ready for a scheduled email.Sir
June 21, 2019 at 13:44
So then there is no need to ask! Just wait.
June 20, 2019 at 20:06
I stumbled across your site by pure chance, I wish I had known all along as I did the process “BLIND” and without aid, but it still worked out so I guess I cant be unhappy although all this stuff would have been handy ahead of time and I would have saved a lot of headache and worry….so thanks for this help, wish it helped me ahead of time
Anyway, I’m so thrilled at having the IV stamped in my passport….its been a long wait and journey. I just stare at it, thinking WOW.
I have to pinch myself HARD to believe it – I haven’t left my native land yet…I have 6 months to go
Can it ever be taken away ? Seriously ? Even if they’ve made a mistake (just saying) or “changed their mind / view” can they turn around and say………”NO!” we’ll have it back
Can they ever cancel or void it after its been… literally ….issued?
Even after I enter, can it be voided / cancelled?
PLAYING TO DEVIL’S ADVOCATE
What if you commit a crime in your native land, or get a disease (like an STD) after you’ve been issued and within that 6 months you have to go ? – lets say they find out?
what even if they don’t find out but eventually find out where its too late and you are in US – do they chase you and cancel it
Has it ever happened to anyone that you know – where its been issued – then voided – for whatever reason, genuine or not ? Just asking and playing devil’s advocate
June 20, 2019 at 20:20
No -that doesn’t happen UNLESS you committed some fraud (material misrepresentation). So – if you have been truthful, you have nothing to worry about.
June 20, 2019 at 20:32
No you can be truthful but what happens if you do something after its been issued and before you get go, for example…
If they find out too late and you’ve now made it across by then, can they hunt you down and void it ?(hypothetically speaking)
Or they find out as you are about embark?
Like you acquire a disease like an STD or communicable disease
or commit a crime having had a clear police record previously
how are they to know
hypothetically speaking?
Can it be voided?
June 20, 2019 at 20:57
Jesus christ… are you planning to kill someone? Just be normal and use a condom and nothing will happen (hypothetically speaking…)
June 20, 2019 at 22:15
@Behave – LOL
June 20, 2019 at 22:14
I already answered. Unless you have some medical condition where you know you cannot control yourself on a day to day basis, you obviously have an UN-hypothetical concern (because otherwise you would not be asking this again). So – what is the problem?
June 20, 2019 at 22:37
LOL overall myself – I was being mischievous and playing devil’s advocate
I have no concern, was just posing “what if’s”
I am obviously truly delighted – so delighted am I, that I am scared they’ll come and take it away – like a beautiful dream, and suddenly you are awoken to reality
I am always skeptical about good things happening. good things just don’t happen.
As you can tell, for me…the glass is half empty, never half full….now I have been given a half full glass and I dont know what to do
I had to wait literally to see it stuck to a page in my passport – I wouldn’t believe it until that day actually came.
Even then, I thought, is this for real? Come on….I thought it was a gag and was waiting for a camera or something
I still don’t believe it and I think someone’s going to come and snatch it away
June 20, 2019 at 23:53
OK – that’s fine – but I am a little busy for “what if” games…
June 21, 2019 at 09:18
Are you trying to tell us that you are thinking of killing someone and escape to America ?
June 20, 2019 at 20:23
Having won, I was happily telling friends and family of my “fortune” until someone said to me they had won some 20 years ago, but never took it up as they specified where they were to go if they took it up
Is this true?
In year’s and year’s gone back – DV program in early 2000’s and 1990’s
Did KCC contact applicants by telephone to take up the “offer” / ask whether the applicant wants to take up the spot – once an applicant applied
Also did the DV program SPECIFY where applicants needed to go if admitted i.e. Only Alabama or Idaho – where they restricted?
Is this all porkies?
June 20, 2019 at 22:11
Total porkies. The DV lottery has NEVER been like that.
June 20, 2019 at 23:35
Good evening Simon,
My wife has been selected by the 2020 DV lottery to apply for a green card. We filed a DS-260 immigration form in May.
In the application we requested the interview to take place in Panama, a country we travel to often. It has now been brought to our attention that there is an instruction from the Caracas consulate virtual site to direct all immigration applications to the Bogota consulate.
We would like to know if it is fine to keep the Panama site or whether we should ask the KCC to have it moved to Bogota.
Thanks in advance for your time and advise,
June 21, 2019 at 00:00
Regardless of the embassy you select, KCC will schedule the interview based on current address. If your address would normally mean a Caracas interview, and all Caracas interviews are moved to Bogata, then that is where KCC will schedule your interview. However, NONE of that will happen until your case is current, the timing of which is based on your case number.
June 21, 2019 at 00:19
Hi Simon,
What will happen to my friend if the affidavit is not at hand or not ready on the day of interview?
June 21, 2019 at 01:16
I don’t know.
June 21, 2019 at 16:44
can affidavit be emailed and printed with other docs or the person has to post by air it to recipient
June 21, 2019 at 17:57
Can be emailed.
June 21, 2019 at 01:18
Hi Simon
I tried to resend the required documents, so every time the Auto reply says: there is no attachments, and i attached the documents with PDF file type. The first that i had send was ok, what is wrong with me now? How i can i send and attach the documents rightly? Please hepl me my case number is: 2019AF00026xxx
Thank you
June 21, 2019 at 02:49
You can try this if you want – forward your email that you sent to them (with attachments) to me at Britsimon3 at gmail. I will check it.
June 21, 2019 at 16:29
I can see you are not a fan of the @ symbol from history
June 21, 2019 at 17:22
I’m not a fan of spam.
June 21, 2019 at 01:54
Hi simon
First of all, we had so much help from your site and we are so grateful for you!! thank you so much.
Me and my family won 2018 lottery and we have entered USA on December 2018.
My question is, it’s been a little over 6 month since we arrived and we have not received our Green card yet.
after I read FAQ about receiving green card
“The GC arrival time varies greatly and times of UP to 3 or 4 months are not uncommon, although sometimes it arrives in a much shorter time.”
so, we were expecting it to arrive in 3 to 4 month. now, we are getting really worried.
is it common to take this long? if not, where do we have to go or who do we have to contact?
thank you
June 21, 2019 at 02:48
Did you pay the fees of $220 per person? Are you at the address that was on your DS260? You can contact USCIS to check on progress.
June 21, 2019 at 02:35
Hi Brit simon. My wife n i cn is AF2019 26xxx received ready for schuldeling may.15,2019. Will b possible to get my 2nl this month? Pls I really want to my
June 21, 2019 at 02:46
Maybe. Patience.
June 21, 2019 at 08:24
Hi Simon,
To make sure I have got it right:
1)We should provide proof of money ( proof of pension, value of house, investments etc) that we will be bringing over to the US, should we be successful ?
2) Should we also get a sponsor as well if we have sufficient funds – just in case?
Thanks for your time
June 21, 2019 at 13:46
1. Only liquid assets.
2. Yes

June 21, 2019 at 10:05
Hello Dear Simon,
I want to thank you for your support through this blog, it is really helpful!
I have a subtle question.
My Dad won DV2019, and we got an email to submit our supporting documents.
However, I am really worried, because my dad was born in one country (which is stated in his birth certificate), however, in his passport another country is stated as his birthplace. It was a mistake made by the government when he applied for his first passport at the age of 16. We live in a post soviet country and during that period the country was in a very unstable situation and he did not apply for correcting that mistake.
Could that be an issue for processing our application further?
Thank you!
June 21, 2019 at 14:04
What are the two countries involved?
June 21, 2019 at 19:41
Georgia and Turkmenistan. Both are post soviet countries and are under the region of EU for the DV program.
June 21, 2019 at 21:32
Hi Simon – on the I34 – do I need anything from my previous employer – except just the W2 and 1040 – she retired and closed up
shop in March last year. The rest of the year I was self employed. Will a statement about my W2 explaining this be good enough? (I have other income also showing on the 1040).
Thanks – Nora
June 22, 2019 at 14:08
They will ask the selectee his/her relationship with you. They will look at your form for about three seconds. There is no time nor interest in *your* life history. Either there is enough income or there isn’t. As simple as that.
June 22, 2019 at 21:02
?
June 24, 2019 at 04:56
Simon – does the I-34 have to be the original with original signature when given to the CO – or is a copy sufficient? I read two different things about this. Algerian mail system is not always reliable.
Thanks for a reply – Nora

June 24, 2019 at 05:22
Thanks for the speedy reply! As always…but I found conflicting info on your link about this. One says:
The original signed I-134 plus supporting documents is presented by the selectee at the interview IF requested
The other says:
The I-134 should be sent to you prior to the interview by mail OR SCANNED and the supporting documents can be photocopies or sent by email.
(a scanned item is no longer the original with “wet” signature). Advice is appreciated!
Nora
June 24, 2019 at 13:50
You are hard work.
*************SCANNED IS OK*********************
June 24, 2019 at 14:42
Thank you! Not hard work – I try to use the links BEFORE I ask you since that’s what you tell people to do, and if I see a conflict of information, I just want to be sure of doing the right thing.
Go back to bed and get out on the right side today and use that Brit humor!! 🙂
June 24, 2019 at 16:26
You have posted SIXTY times Nora, and you are not even a selectee – you are simply going to fill in an I-134!
I can’t imagine what you would be like if you yourself were a winner.
June 21, 2019 at 11:14
have you ever served in military service? i have answer no for my husband, he has finished military school and work in military.
i filled his military records at his employees.
SHOULD i unlock ds 260.
Iam a 2020 winner
June 21, 2019 at 14:10
Yes unlock. That is a serious omission.
June 24, 2019 at 17:15
SIXTY ? I think since he was selected a year ago, I have contacted you maybe 7 or 8 times on his behalf because I don’t want anything to cause him to be disqualified! He tried 3 other times to get selected and was not chosen – now he was. I just want to be sure that all t’s are crossed and i’s dotted. As you well know you’re dealing with some extremely stressed out people in this process. Its very stressful any time you’re submitting documents to the US Government and a LOT is at stake. I just cannot even imagine him being disqualified for something stupid that I caused by not having everything in order. Hopefully as one Brit to another, you can understand that. And I DO respect your time – there are other times I have a question but I don’t ask it because I see what you are dealing with!
Nora
June 25, 2019 at 00:29
Sixty is the actual number of questions or comments from your email address – 61 now. I’m not kidding.
June 25, 2019 at 04:52
One of the most common names on this blog for the time I’ve been on is you @Nora.
Anyway I like your questions and that care you’re doing for him.
I pray he gets approved.
June 21, 2019 at 11:22
Hi sir. My case number is 2019Af427xx is this possible for me to be schedule for interview.
June 21, 2019 at 14:10
Yes. You must have sent your documents – have you done that?
June 23, 2019 at 16:37
Hi simon,
I have two questions:
1- in our Entery application we insert email but when we submitted our DS260 forms we but another email address, my question is in which email address we will receive notifications from KCC regarding the required documents and 2nl letter?
2- is there any problem to use sponsor who recently used his income to spons his mother?but his income enough to spons our family also
June 23, 2019 at 18:41
1. The latest one, but watch them both.
2. If the income is enough, then no problem.
June 21, 2019 at 12:30
Sir. My Sponsor has annual income 22000$. Balance of his savings and checking accounts in USA is 11213$ and value of his other personal property is 13500$. so Sir all these are added or annual income is only valid while sponsoring other.
June 21, 2019 at 14:12
Income.

June 22, 2019 at 06:42
Sir is it compulsory to notarize the i134 after signing it. My sponsor is only showing his annual income not bank savings and stock bonds etc .
1. Is it compulsory to notarize it or not sir. Please clarify.
June 22, 2019 at 14:32
No. The answer to that is written on the form.
June 22, 2019 at 14:45
Will it be Valid if only signed by the person who sponsor us?
June 22, 2019 at 14:57
Seriously?
June 22, 2019 at 08:27
Hello,
I have one important question to be cleared.
When I would enter the US with a visa from the embassy, I should wait to 3 months (90 days) for getting the green card to the mail I gave on the DS 260 form.
May I know, how I am supposed to work, for the time I am waiting for the green card to arrive (90 days) ?
June 22, 2019 at 14:37
You don’t have to wait to start work. Your stamped visa shows you are eligible to work.
June 22, 2019 at 11:17
I am a winner in lottery 2020… I can’t remember any information that i have written in my application such as ( my educational degree, address and military statues ) and now I am a winner …… Is there a way to find out my written information ?
June 22, 2019 at 14:48
No. But if you told the truth there is no problem.
June 22, 2019 at 13:36

Is it ok ? Will be it problem ?
June 22, 2019 at 14:57
No problem if the income is enough.
June 22, 2019 at 15:22
Am a pastor, i won DV2020, i have seconday leaving certificate and a diploma in theology, do i need to show my work experience?or am qualifed by my education? Am also wondering what to fill in the education colum, can i say high school diploma or vocational?
June 22, 2019 at 15:25
Education standards, systems and requirements vary by country, and I don’t track them all. So – you should try to find out the education requirement in your country.
June 22, 2019 at 16:02
Thank you, so is it high school diploma or vocational?
June 22, 2019 at 19:18
Use your own judgement based on courses you know.
June 22, 2019 at 16:34
Hello Simon,
Thanks for the help.
Does passing marks of Highschool Diploma matter?
The official US embassy website located where i live that being Addis Ababa, Ethiopia stated as below.
Proof of graduation from 12th grade (including an Ethiopian Leaving Certificate Examination, a University
Entrance Exam, or a Higher Education Qualification Exam), showing at least 5 passing grades, (or)
Proof of graduation from a four-year university
Does it also mean Three year university degree is unacceptable?
Please help if i understood this wrong.
June 22, 2019 at 19:16
If you meet the HS level, then that is already enough. The three year degree would then not be a problem.
June 22, 2019 at 17:40
Hi Simon,
Do you know what happens if one of the infectious stuff is positive at the medical visit ? If I remember well, the doctor said she will give me a sealed enveloppe with the results so I won’t even know right ?
Thanks!
June 22, 2019 at 19:09
If you have a serious disease, the DOCTOR will obviously tell you!
June 22, 2019 at 22:47
ok, but let’s say i have syphilis or gonorrhea or whatever, do we get disqualified ? or do we get treatment and do another medical visit ?
June 23, 2019 at 04:34
If there is time to get treated and get the all clear, then that is ok.
June 22, 2019 at 17:48
Hello brit
AS accordance to you , I have changed the sponsor who is my friend as well . And at this time I have one more sponsor who is unknown to me but friend of my brother in law .
My friend income is around $30k and he is single there in woodland ,California .
The another sponsor make a annual income of $ 60k with his 1 child and wife .
I am confusing is that , to reduce risk who is better ,my friend or the unknown one ?
Does Consular officer may have doubt due to unknown sponsor even I explain well about the sponsor ?
Does it necessary to sponsor to be relative or friend ? Or unknown can too ?
Thanks for everything Brit ..
hope you will clear me ..
June 22, 2019 at 19:10
The ideal sponsor is someone you know AND meets the income requirement.

Sir,
I am DV winner and currently live in Guinea Conakry but I don’t want to process my case at Dakar why?
The reason is I don’t not have a direct relative there and the life there is very expensive.
I know that KCC will Schedule the interview based on the country of residence, but I want to process my case at Freetown because it is too close and and I will pay less about transportation fee and I have direct parent there for housing.
I want to put the residence adresse of Freetown so that I will be scheduled there and at the interview if consular ask me why I putted adress where I am not I will give the reason as I told you.
Do you think it won’t be a problem?
June 23, 2019 at 09:53
Do you think lying to them is a good idea?
June 23, 2019 at 13:12
I always read here to say Truth, now what is the solution knowing if I put the actuel address of residence I will be directed to Dakar ?
June 23, 2019 at 18:35
The interview will be based on your address.
June 23, 2019 at 11:53
Hi there,
I want to apply for the DV- 2021 Program and i just have one question. My nationality is Lebanese, but i was born in the UAE ( United Arab Emirates) and they do not provide nationality if you were born there. I have lived here all my life, I was wondering what nationality should I use when applying? all I have is a residency here that gets renewed every 2 years.

It is not about nationality, it is about place of birth. So – UAE.

Hello Brit
You told me that just present I134 without unlocking ds260 .
Don’t it cause problem that the sponsor in ds260 and present in interview different ?
If I want to change sponsor after 2nL by unlocking the ds260 , is it possible to unlock ds260 once 2Nl received , or is there any risk to unlock after 2Nl received brit ?
Does it delay in interview schedule or or no problem ?
Thanks lots brit in advance

The name and address of the person in US you filled in DS-260 is not necessarily the sponsor. What you fill in DS-260 is where you going to stay when you arrive mainly to mail your Green Card.
The sponsor can be a different person.

OA

Thank you Omar and Brit !
I got it ! you mean whatever the change for sponsor , we just need to present in the interview? RIGHT ? and no need to unlock to make change for sponsor ,Right !
Thanks for clarification !!

Hi Simon,
I’m one of the idiots who didn’t Print a copy after applying last year. I’ve entered my information a couple of times and even chances my emails to try and check my status. However, to my dismay, nothing has worked.
Is there any other way of obtaining my number? Perhaps my African name was changed around? Anything could really help.
Regards,
Jax

Have you tried the “lost your confirmation number” link on the ESC page. That is the ONLY way to recover your code.

Thank you for replying,
Yes, that’s the section that is giving me problems.

Hi Simon,
I’m a winner of DV2020, (Europe Region). When I applied for the DV2020, I was engaged
(3 years with my Fiance), but legally I was Single. Now that I’m preselected, I did the legal
marriage with my Husband. I haven’t submitted the DS-260 yet.
I’m concerned because when I signed for the Marriage (on the Register Office),
I wanted to keep my husband surname. But I’m preselected with my Maiden Name.
About 15 days ago, I applied for a new Passport, with my actual surname (husband’s surname).
Do you think will be a problem, on the interview day? I plan to finally submit the DS-260
after one week (end of June). My marriage is genuine, and I can proof with DVD, Weddings of our friends, Photo, Bank Accounts, Utility Bills, Emails, Texts, etc (for at least 3 years ago).
On the interview day, I will present a passport with my Name, but with my actual surname (after marriage). My Case Number is : 2020EU000046XX.
Thanks a lot,
Jessica

Complete the DS260 with the married name. There is a place to list the old name.

Hi Simon,
If I allready sent documents and I recieved confirmation that all documents are provided, is there any chanse that I’ll have problems on interview? I’m asking that question because we have two kind of criminal records in my country, and I sent one, which is not recognized by US embassy. But I recieved confirmation that all docs are Ok. I resent docs one more time, with correct criminal record, but I did not recieved confirmation any more. I’ll provide correct criminal record on interview, but I wanted to know your opinion, is there any chanse that I will be refused because of that?

Hello Brit
My interview is mid July in Belgrade. I am a resident in Montenegro, in the official instructions site, it says “If you are applying for immigrant visa in Belgrade, and you are a resident in Montenegro, you do not need to register your appointment”. But today, I got an email, that says “Dear U.S. Immigrant Visa Applicant,
The Immigrant Visa Unit at the Consular Section in Belgrade encourages all immigrant visa applicants to register their appointment before attending the scheduled visa interview.
You are receiving this email message because our records show that you have not completed the registration process. To complete registration, please click on the following link ”
My question is: Do you think this is an automatic email that is sent to everyone having interview in Belgrade, or I should register my appointment? i’m confused!
All the best.

Just register – it cannot harm.

Hello Brit! I’m a dv2020 winner, my daddy has been living in US since the 80’s so he has the American nationality and he’s going to be my sponsor. The problem is on my birth certificate he is recorded as my country of origin citizen which is also true (he has double nationalities) so I wonder if the embassy will think it is a lie as he’s my sponsor with American nationality and also my daddy with my country nationality on my birth certificate
June 24, 2019 at 13:44
No problem, he can send you scans of passports.
June 24, 2019 at 19:43
He only has American passport, is it sufficient?
June 25, 2019 at 00:50
Yes
June 24, 2019 at 09:09
Hello Brit
Is there a risk of not getting replied if one used an email adress to write KCC other than the one provided in the DS 260 form.
June 24, 2019 at 13:42
Yes of course.
June 24, 2019 at 13:43
Ahhh, you mean YOUR address, no problem.
