Hi Brit its me again (another email came in today)
“A quick review of your immigrant visa case shows that you need to update the passport info in your DS-260 form prior to your upcoming interview on July XX, 2019. It has come our attention that your passport expire in November 2019. Please note that immigrant visa applicants are required to present passport valid for at least 8 months from the date of the interview. Your DS-260 forms are now unlocked and you can access them again, update the required information and resubmit the form.”
My question is: According to what I have read on your blog, you say DS-260 can’t be unlocked once you’re scheduled, but now this email says that my DS260 is unlocked? The email is 100% legit since it says my exact date of interview!
So what should I do? go to ceac website and log in and write my new passport number ? (i obtained one 1 week ago and its valid until 2029!
All the best
June 24, 2019 at 13:36
The embbassy can unlock – and they clearly instructed you – so get on with the update.

Hi Brit,
My case is as Scenario No. 3, regarding your link below
https://britsimonsays.com/how-to-add-a-newborn-child-to-the-dv-case/
I’m trying to contact the USCIS by several ways but failed to have any guidance to the exact process.
can you help me with a reference (web link) to what exactly is required, or phone number for support.
Thank you for your continuous support
June 25, 2019 at 00:48
Follow steps 1 through 4. If the airline requires a boarding document then you need that from the embassy, otherwise – just fly and they will take care of it at the airport.
June 24, 2019 at 20:47

Hi Brit,
As we all noticed in DV2020 the number of selectees are high somehow comparing to previous years. So, may I ask you to consider making a separate to let the selectees only comment with their case number in usual masked format (e.g. DV2020AS24XXX) so we can start figure out what’s the maximum number of each region?
Regards,
Ahmed
June 24, 2019 at 21:21
A great suggestion , Ahmed . I hope Brit will consider that , and I hope people will not go to the post ( if it is created ) and storm it with totally different questions
June 25, 2019 at 00:53
In a month or so we will have the selectee numbers per region.
June 24, 2019 at 22:14

June 25, 2019 at 00:54

June 25, 2019 at 04:54

Hi brit. Do I have to send documents of a child who is not going to the interview with the rest of the family if schedule to KCC? But intent to follow us to the USA if granted a visa. This is because as of now he do not have a passport just a birth certificate, just 12years of age .
June 25, 2019 at 00:04
Additional details I filled his ds 260 but indicated he was to follow us in a later date
June 25, 2019 at 00:56
If you don’t include the child in the DV process you would have to sponsor him late by family based immigration. That will cost more money and take around 2 years.

Hi Simon
My case is 2020AF00059xxx and at the moment am on a run to seek for political asylum, am now in Mexico and there is a possibility of seeking asylum in USA.
My question is it possible that I can change my status while in US and should I file in my DS260 form?
June 25, 2019 at 03:03
I told you already to check with a lawyer.
June 25, 2019 at 05:10

June 25, 2019 at 19:35
No problem, but yes, use other names used.
June 25, 2019 at 06:13

June 25, 2019 at 09:40
Hello
I am a 2019 DV lottery applicant, and I am in administrative processing from 3 months after my interview. Reading through your posts I came across a post from July 30 2018 regarding a statement from the US department to halt processing all cases scheduled prior to July 2018 due to visa exhaustion.
Being in the same situation I fear the same thing happening this year.
Judging from the number of visas issued and the scheduled interviews in the upcoming months, do you think the same thing might happen?
Thank you in advance.
June 25, 2019 at 19:39
No. They are massively UNDER issued this year.
June 25, 2019 at 11:27
Dear Simon,
I had an interview today, and visa officer gave me a letter that says , congratulations and your visa got tentatively approved and you can collect your passport on a date mentioned. I am asking still are we have any probability to delay our visa?
Shall I resign my job?
June 25, 2019 at 11:57
Hi Rej,
First of all it was a pleasure to hear that and congratulations. may be can have a small possibility to update CEAC to administrative processing (you can check the status on CEAC) if they need to process more. if they marked it as ISSUED, that means everything went perfect and you can start packing.
my recommendation is wait until you received your passport and visa package before resigning from your job.
June 25, 2019 at 19:43
Wait until the visa is in your hand.
June 25, 2019 at 11:36
Hi Brit,
Our case number has finaly been scheduled for end of August. Hopefully we will get all our Visa. I have one question for you please – is it possible to go and bring the green card then return back in country? To be clear my husband and myself have both great jobs and would like to continue working in country once we will get our greencards. Means return back with kids and go to the usa twice a year for example. Could you please advise?
Kind regards
Nancy
June 25, 2019 at 19:46
You applied for a Green card to live and work in the USA. That right comes with obligations. So – if you just wanted a visitors visa, that would have been a better idea.
So – you can do what you are suggesting for a while, but eventually the border agents will question whether you are taking your resident status seriously. You will have to file taxes in the USA, including reporting the money earned abroad.
June 25, 2019 at 12:13
Hi,
“Please ensure that you have completed your GSS delivery address registration. Your interview will be cancelled and rescheduled if you do not have a completed GSS delivery address registration before your interview date.”
We got email mentioning to complete the GSS, but we are not sure where and how to complete the GSS. Please help.
June 25, 2019 at 19:47
I have no idea. Follow instructions you have been given.
June 25, 2019 at 14:23
Hello, I posted some questions yesterday, but im not sure your received them. Ive been reading a lot of articles recently and watching videos that US consulates look negatively on tattoos mainly gang related tattoos, my issue is i have a neck tattoo of a 3in leaf, completely innocent but neck tattoos because of its location has a negative reputation attached to it, do you think this would be a problem during my us consulate interview for a green card, what can i do to prove to the co that its not gang related.

Hi Brit, thanks for all the great work that you do !
I won the DV2020 with the CN EU39xxx, do you think I might have a chance to get to the interview or just to forget about?
Thanks in advance !
June 25, 2019 at 20:03
As of now – no one has any idea (and anyone that says different doesn’t know what they are talking about).
Wait for a while to see how many selectees have been chosen. We should know in about 3 weeks.
June 25, 2019 at 19:13
Hello Mr brit
The consil say you should make interview through the website but when I submitted for new appointment I can’t see option only shows me the last appointment I don’t know what i do should I cancel the last one Yaounde Cameroun conseil
Thanks
June 25, 2019 at 20:06
Use your own judgement.
June 25, 2019 at 20:16
Hello Mr brit
But this shome Warning: Submitting a “No Show” request for an applicant who has been interviewed by a Consular officer and denied a visa is considered an attempt to commit fraud and will have a serious negative impact on the applicant’s visa application record.
The Consular Section will review your request and respond by sending an email to the email address specified in your account.
I don’t know what i do
Thanks
June 25, 2019 at 21:07
I don’t understand your question.
June 25, 2019 at 20:18
Hello brits thanks for your elaborate explanation about the DV process its very helpful.
I am a DV 2020 selectee and I have dual citizenship one of the countries is not eligible for the DV program and that country is where I had my high school and Bsc degree.
Do I stand a better chance of securing a GC?
I made a mistake on my Ds260 form how do I unlock to correct it

June Interviews / Cases – Technical Admin Query
If you’ve had your interview and the medical after the interview, and it gets to the Embassy with all the other bits and bobs BEFORE June, are the pre-allocated visas still allocated to you for June even though any “processing” and “admin” gets done if it falls into July (administratively)?
So let’s say they decide to issue Visa in July but you’ve had the interview and medical submitted in June
Does the pre-allocation visas that were assigned to your case and for June apply even though technically the visa may be printed / produced / administered in July because of the normal “passage of time”
You’ve in the past said stick with the original appointment, make sure you don’t pass that month – if you’ve done all that and it crosses over into the next month and the Visa doesn’t get printed – are those the pre-allocated one’s for the month that they were meant to be?
June 25, 2019 at 21:16
As I have explained before the allocated visas are accounted for at the end of each month. If an interview took place on the last day of the month, I imagine that case would be quickly marked as approved so that the accounting could be correct. Other than that, the cases need to have visas re-allocated.
June 25, 2019 at 22:40
Hi britsimonsay my case number is 201942xxx from your observation you think I be interview in August?

Mr. Brits,
Thanks one more time for the systematic and in depth instructions.
Very useful I must admit to me from DS260 form completion, through to interviews, and the post interviews.
The family and I had our interview in Accra on June 6, got approved and placed on Administrative Processing for about 7 Business days. Status changed from AP to Ready in less than 24 hours, and finally to Issued on June 18.
We are yet to be notified for passports collection.
Mr. Brits, how long does it normally take for that to be done? Asking probably because you might have had such an experience with previous selectees.
Thanks a million.
June 26, 2019 at 03:25

June 26, 2019 at 05:02

hi Simon,
i manage to reschedule my interview, and the embassy already given me a new date. will i get a new appointment letter? i already email them twice but still no response until now.
thank you for your help.
June 26, 2019 at 05:48
Probably not – and certainly not from KCC.
June 26, 2019 at 07:10
You’re right, the embassy had just reply my mail. I only need to bring printed email with the new appointment date. Thank you for your help.
Wish me luck. Cheers.
June 26, 2019 at 04:49
Mr.Brit, i Have a situation and i need your thoughts on it.
So..
I’m indonesian,
I got married in China right, i got china’s marriage certificare like the reciprocity page requirement.
But the Problem is , i am getting my interview in Indonesia and i can’t register my marriage There yet, it takes time to get legalization from chinese foreign ministry etc so complicated.
So i won’t get it by the time at the interview.
Will this be my Problem in the interview because i dont have indonesian marriage certificate?
My point is , will my only china marriage Certificate be enough for them?
June 26, 2019 at 04:51
Or maybe should i inform embassy first about it? Tell them that i dont have Indonesian marriage certificate?
June 26, 2019 at 05:47
Probably OK- but obviously I am not expert on procedures in Indonesia.
June 26, 2019 at 06:16
anyone you know had this experience?
like lets say a british married to a russian , or any country cross marriage , and then they go to interview only brought 1 marriage Certificate from one of their countries.
I think indonesia also same as others.
anyway, should i inform embassy first or not?
June 26, 2019 at 17:36
I already answered. It is PROBABLY OK. BUT I know nothing about Indonesia . So – it has nothing to do with other countries or other experiences.
June 26, 2019 at 22:25

Do you advise me to continue with him or i have to change a sponsor ? Thanks
June 26, 2019 at 17:41
Change.
June 26, 2019 at 09:41
Hi Simon,
Thanks for the amazing work you do here!
I am a DV 2019 winner with my wife as derivative, in the Oceania region (both NZrs). Our interview is scheduled for 1st August in Guangzhou, China as we are residents here.
I have had a good read up of all your answers and advice, here goes with my questions (sorry if some are dumb)
1. I have sent a request to the Embassy for the interview date to be set slightly later from the 1st August to 5th August. I am assuming the risk of missing out is not critically increased by doing this – as it is only 2 working days and I have also noted your comments that the quota is undersubscribed (or under issued) this 2019 year. Is my thinking sound?
2. We have well in excess of the public charge/financial self-support guide lines you indicated here. Are we ok to only show bank account/financial records and not submit an I-134? (sorry, I can’t seem to put my mind at ease over this one)
3. Part of our application required Police certs for a period of time we were in the UK about 30 years ago. We have requested them (the website said they may take 6 weeks). If these don’t arrive in time for our interview can we have them added to our file post interview? (I assume this would probably hold up visa issuance but just checking it won’t screw up the whole interview)
4. All going well at the interview, and after successful issue of the visa in my NZ passport, will I be able to enter the USA on my UK passport with an ESTA without activating the visa in my NZ passport? What I am hoping to do is visit the States in Oct but not activate the immigration visa so that we avoid a US tax return for the year 2019.
5. Before I POE as the principle applicant to activate the DV visa, can my wife enter the US utilising an ESTA using her passport with her DV visa in it? Or does she need to avoid any visit to the US until I have made the POE either with her together or before her? (she only has NZ passport)
6. When we do arrive to activate in January 2020 is it ok if we arrive in different POE? I understand as principle applicant I must enter first. Can I come through SFO a few days before she comes through LAX?
Many thanks and kind regards,
Paul
June 26, 2019 at 17:47
1. No risk if the embassy will accommodate that change.
2. Your choice. Guangzhou don’t see many DV cases, so that can create risk and delay. An I-134 reduces risk.
3. Yes, but again – it is a matter of risk.
4. No you cannot do that.
5. Again, no.
6. Yes – but again – your ESTA plans won’t work, so you need an earlier activation plan.
June 26, 2019 at 18:24
Wow !!!
Mind blowing query and fairly well versed and articulate in your reading before posting your varied queries
Beats the average query and query quality posted here
I feel sorry for Simon sometimes the quality of people’s questions, simply because they cant be bothered to read or use own initiative. Some of it is so COMMON SENSE and as Simon likes to say, read and “use judgement”
Your query was particularly spectacular ! You seem to have a colourful and exciting life – Good luck
June 26, 2019 at 18:31
I feel sorry for me sometimes too….
June 26, 2019 at 18:44
Found it don’t worry !!! Used “own initiative” as I saw your comment
June 26, 2019 at 18:38
What is / where can I find the public charge / financial self-support guide lines ?
What is the difference between the above and an I-134?
If you can send a link, that would be helpful
June 26, 2019 at 10:24

June 26, 2019 at 13:43
Hi Brit,
I have selected for DV-2020 and in the process of completing my DS-260 form (with two months delay as I just figured it out). I have the following two questions:
– I have two citizenship (Iranian and Canadian). I would like to know with which passport I better apply. I will put my nationality as Iranian. However, I don’t know about the passport info.
– I have my high school diploma and all university degrees (Bsc and Msc in eng.). Also, I have all transcripts from the universities in Iran sand Canada. But, I don’t have my high school transcript as I completed it many years ago (over 20 years). Do I need to trip to Iran to get that one or I better take the risk?
Thanks,
Mahsa

Hello Brit,
I have one question, after getting the green card, is it possible to go out of the USA and come back in without any issues. Assume that i fly back to my county and comeback before six months. I want you to tell me if there is no issue go out and come back to USA. Thanks Ngabo
June 26, 2019 at 18:00
That is answered in the FAQ – so read that.
June 26, 2019 at 14:23
Hi sir, sorry for not responding to your question, yes I did submit my documents since last year August 13, and I received auto confirmation.
June 26, 2019 at 18:04
You are about to lose your chance because you are not paying attention.
You did NOT submit documents in August. You may have submitted your DS260. They did not start asking for documents until November. So – contact KCC and arrange to send documents. They may have asked you and you ignored them . You have a couple of weeks to sort this out before you lose your chance forever.

June 26, 2019 at 18:35
Brit,
Is there a way we can know the number of AP cases that have been cleared?
June 26, 2019 at 21:01
You can check the data at Xarthisius’ site.
https://dvcharts.xarthisius.xyz/ceacFY19.html
June 26, 2019 at 18:39
Dear Mr. Simon,
According to CEAC data in 2NL spreadsheet,
1) what is meant by ” status date ” ?
2) who determined the “Status date” ?
June 26, 2019 at 21:00
Simply the last time the case was updated. Ignore it.
June 26, 2019 at 19:11
Dear Mr. Simon,
My CN 2019AS12###
I ‘m in middle east for company contract since year 2014. My contract will be over on end of September. My questions is , if I approved within September , can any possibility to extend to October ( passport deliveries..etc. )
Thanks
June 26, 2019 at 20:59
You can enter the USA within the validity of the visa (usually 6 months after the medical).
June 26, 2019 at 20:16
Yes I mean I summited my Ds260 form since last year August. And my case number is 2019Af427xx is that will be any problem with it?
June 26, 2019 at 20:56

My spouse, who is the DV winner whatsapp’ed me your website today, so I had a gander. She is from a qualifying country although we live in Surrey, England.
I saw a video on your site and realised you are British so I immediately took notice, and paid more attention and realised you are a winner yourself. I expect you may have had a qualifying spouse like me?
As an Englishman now in America, is it all cracked up to be what people “dream” it to be? -i.e. the “american dream”?
I am cynical and skeptical by nature (a Brit thing, I suppose) and about the win and about America generally, especially with current administration and the last 18 to 19 years particularly.
I am fairly elderly (early 50’s – so not a young man) and so, so settled and set up in my ways – my life is good and I am very comfortable in the UK. I look out to green luscious fields, but only with grey skies
Apart from Brexit, couldn’t ask for a better place to live, to be fair. Local authorities and government services are a bit under funded – but hey, that’s life.
We are free and happy souls in Great Britain, one of a few country where we don’t even need to carry an ID card and can argue with a law enforcement officer, who, as you will know, are mostly unarmed and civil.
I can’t see that in America. I have been to America many times and I DO like it – but is it worth all that hassle? They can seem too brash and lacking ‘culture’ and sometimes I get back to ‘civilization’ without being unkind
Should I/ we bother with this win and all the admin and costs ?
My spouse wants to do this, arm-twisting me – she is 10 years my junior, I am not so keen and so sure but she says “it’s for the children ! We are about to Brexit?”
She found your site and is forcing me to look up everything and “follow the process”
All this upheaval ? For what ? Is it all worth it (asking as a fellow Brit)?
I was looking at all –
– the requirements
– documents
– interviews
– medicals
– fee’s
I can very easily estimate they are in the £££ thousands before I even go.
Whilst I have all the money to do this, is it really all worth it and worth the hassle to cross the pond?
I already live in a great nation?

Below is a link to a recent answer I gave to someone else in a similar position.

Honestly – it’s a personal decision. Emigrating could cause a backward step in your career and in parts of the USA the house prices will make Surrey look affordable. So – do you have it in you to start again? Do you have a good reason to do that? Often that is for kids, but it will be tough to do. Do you have skills that will be easily transferred for work? So – you both need to be on the same page.
Have a read of that link and take a look around the site. The costs will be around 700 pounds per person. for the visas and medicals, but uprooting your lives will cost MUCH more than that.

Good evening,
My case is unique in the history of the lottery. Please answer me ?!.
I won in the 2019 dv (AF 477 **) and the 2020 dv (AF 56 ***).
My interview is scheduled for August 2019. Can there be a problem in this case?. To have reinscribed after winning??!!.
Thank you.

Hi Brit,
Hope this finds you .
Please i was approved by the consular and although my case has been on AP for more than 3 months i haven’t received an instruction for further details. However i was called by the embassy to pick up my package, instead only my passport was given to me with no visa and no instructions. I have contacted the support office and they have no idea how that happened
The ticket closure only from them only tells me to check my staus on ceac which still reads AP.
1. What does this mean
2. How can i get clarification on this new development
Thank you

1. I cannot guess.
2. Ask the embassy.

June 27, 2019 at 07:10

hi Brit. I sent ds-260 to the KCC and got confirmation that it was accepted. On May 3, I was asked to send the scanned papers and sent them to me on May 15th. On May 18 I got my phone to ask if the KCC was happy with my documents? They said they were happy with the documents I had started. I called after I saw that my email account was closed by the attack of a whiskey. The question is: Do I have to phone again to let you know that my email address has been arched and can not get notice before my status changes?
How is it done in these cases?
Thank you
June 27, 2019 at 01:03
No. Just keep an eye on your case in the ESC page. That is where the 2NL appears.
June 27, 2019 at 05:11
Are you a dv2019 or dv 2020 winner ?
June 27, 2019 at 00:50
Hello Sir. I am from Nepal. My interview was yesterday. The co sakd Your visa is approved and he give me a card to pick up my passport. But in ceac status it shows Administrative Processing. When it will change to issued sir? Is it normal Sir?

Hi Brit
I wrote to you a few weeks ago in regard to my case number being high and have held off on sending my DS-260. My case number is DV2020OC20##. Would you have any idea how high the case numbers are as yet for the OC region and the holes theory. I’ll be studying this year and will apply for a J1 if my DV doesn’t come through but I’m just confused as to when or if I should submit the form and if I do when do you suggest?
Thank you in advance for your help
June 27, 2019 at 14:13
The case numbers is not what is important. The number of selectees is what we are waiting to know. We are likely to see that on the next VB – in about 2 to 3 weeks time.
