Hi Simon
Son is processing via i485 and has done biometric in June. What should he be doing to ensure processing takes place?
Thanks
Karen
July 3, 2019 at 17:48
Infopass.
July 8, 2019 at 01:21
Hi Simon. Infopass appointments not available at this time. Should son expect a 2NL as part of the I-485 AOS process.
Thanks Karen
July 8, 2019 at 04:22
2NLs for AOS cases have a different meaning.
July 3, 2019 at 10:04
Hi Mr Brit, I have three questions
1) I’m from Asia region and I have selected for DV2020 with case number 185xx. Is there any chance to get an interview for this case number?
2) Assume Asia region is getting 15000 visas and do they giving visas for 15000 case numbers or 15000 visas including all the family members?
3) do they expecting to add sponsor details into the DS260 as contact person or can it be differ?
July 3, 2019 at 17:50
1. Possibly. It is too soon to know for sure.
2. Well the quota is around 8000, but each selectee and each derivative is counted.
3. It can be different.
July 3, 2019 at 10:06
Hi brit,
How does an 18 year old student provide bank statements to prove he will not be a public charge? Can his parents give a $15000 deposit along with some sort of gift letter to provide evidence to the CO?
July 3, 2019 at 17:50
Yes, but an I-134 from someone in the USA is far better.
July 3, 2019 at 10:21
Hello: Does working for USPS shorten the wait period for citizenship?
July 3, 2019 at 17:52
LOL – NO!
July 3, 2019 at 11:23
Hi, I submitted my I-485 back in September when I was eligible. I was living in Queens but moved to Manhattan. Despite marking it as “expedite please” and submitting ERequest and even requesting help from my congresswoman, my case so far has not been scheduled for interview. I am worried about the timing and wonder if there is anything else I can do?
July 3, 2019 at 17:54
September?? Is this a DV lottery case?? You should NOT have submitted in September.
July 3, 2019 at 19:47
sorry, I should have been more specific. It’s DV2019. I had a low number which became current in October 2018 so I early filed in September. My travel parole took 7 months. I’ve contacted my congresswoman and done ERequests and sent a request to expedite, although my original packet also requested it…
July 3, 2019 at 21:42
Yes I understood. I recommend people DO NOT file before October – it can lead to problems later. You may be able to move things along with an Infopass (if you can get one).
July 3, 2019 at 21:57
Thank you. What kind of problems? There are no Infopass appointments being scheduled…
July 3, 2019 at 22:44
We have seen denials because of early filing – and the ones that have stuck are pre year start filings. In hgeneral, the risk is not worth that extra few weeks.
Back to your original question. Infopass is what I used, and have seen others use. However the infopass system has changed at some FOs. For AOS questions you should be using the link below and checking with “Mom”.

Hi Simon
I have completed 13 Years of ordinary and advanced level education, but I got 2 passes out of 3 subjects in advanced level examination. Will this be an issue for me during the interview?
Currently I m working related to IT Industry in a US based company, and I have 10 years of working experience with 3 years on the job training. If I will be going through the occupation category, what are the necessary documents or requirements that I need to submit to the consular officer during the interview?
Could you kindly assist me on this
July 3, 2019 at 12:29
Hi Danushka,
I’m also from sri lanka what was your case number range? and where do you from?
Thanks
July 3, 2019 at 17:55
Read the link below and apply some judgement based on your situation.

July 3, 2019 at 11:55
Please when going for an interview is it a must to go with the medical examination results?
July 3, 2019 at 17:56
Normally, yes.
July 3, 2019 at 12:27
Hello, dear Brit,
I am a DV Lottery selectee with a case number 2020EU52***. I completed DS-260 in 21 May and did not receive any reply.
1. Is that ok, that they have not replied me so far?
2. When can I expect a response?
3. What is the highest 2020EU case number so far known?
July 3, 2019 at 17:57
1. Yes – you have at least a year to wait.
2. Next year. Maybe.
3. Yours is one of the highest.
July 3, 2019 at 12:29
Hello Brit.
I’m a selectee 2020 from Nairobi Kenya. I have tried communicating with friends in US who are also DV green card holders. But them seems not understanding/aware of the I-134 form.
My question is: is a I-134 a requirement for Kenyans? Please advise.
July 3, 2019 at 17:58
I recommend you get it – yes. It is more often requested these days.
July 3, 2019 at 13:24
Hi Brit,
DV2020. DS260 already submitted for all family.
However, we decided to change daughter’s and wife’s (she is principle applicant) passports (will expired next year).
So should I asked to unlock my DS260 and update new passport information? We did not get request for scans still.
July 3, 2019 at 17:59
Yes update later assuming your case number is not very low.
July 3, 2019 at 13:28
I have been selected for 2020 visa lottery,i am in US,but i am from Macedonia, and i got here with a tourist visa, and the visa expired in October 30th 2018,i dont have any family members or a wife here. So the lawyers have been telling me that i have to ask the immigration officers to not ban me when i will leave US (and they will give me a document for that) so my questin is if there is a way that i wont have to leave US and still get my green card,or if i leave is it risky at the embasy to not get my visa becouse i overstayed?
July 3, 2019 at 13:35
How incredibly foolish you have been!
You cannot adjust status in the USA if you have been out of status. You must leave as soon as possible. You will probably incur a 3 year ban if you leave now and MAYBE you can get a waiver for that, but hurry up and get out of the USA.
July 3, 2019 at 14:27
I have applied to get a document from immigration officers that they wont ban me when i leave,is there a chance to get my greencard from inside US without leaving?
July 3, 2019 at 18:04
Again? NO. None. Nada. Zip.
July 3, 2019 at 13:42
Hello Brit and everyone else,
I had the interview on 1st of July, and today (3rd of July) my husband and I (principal) got the passports back. Our visas are approved.
Thank you so much for your help Brit! Really appreciate it!
Best,
V
July 3, 2019 at 18:01
Congratulations.
July 3, 2019 at 18:34
Congrats..
@Mr Brits, what is the maximum time required for passports to be returned to DV selectees after a successful interview especially here in Accra Ghana? We got approved on June 6, CEAC Status showed Visas issued and printed on June 18, but up until today July 3, embassy says they cannot tell when the passports would be forwarded to the Collection Point.
In such situations, what is the way forward?
Thank you Sir for the directives throughout this journey. They have been the best to ‘newbees’ like me.
Waiting on your feedback.
July 3, 2019 at 21:34
The delay time you are talking about is not “normal”. All you can do is keep checking with the embassy.
July 3, 2019 at 13:46
Hello Simon,
I’d like to ask what happens if I’ve already submitted the DS-260 and am now waiting for a response by KCC(talking about DV2020), but in the meantime I’ve changed my job(started a new position at a new company)? Should I open and update the DS-260 form? Thanks
July 3, 2019 at 18:01
No need.
July 3, 2019 at 13:49
Hi simon. I am a single amputee( using one prothestic leg) . 2020AS39XX. If my documents, medical and sponor are all fine. Will my physical disability be a problem getting visa. Sorry about repeated question( bit anxious). Note: I am able to do many things and i work as well, can travel on my own etc etc.
July 3, 2019 at 18:01
Please stop asking this over and over again. I already answered you.
July 3, 2019 at 13:51
Hi again Britsimon,
last time I was asking you about my case that waiting for schedule to fingerprints after got the recipe’s mail 15days still haven’t got scheduled yet.
Now it been 34days I haven’t got schedule to fingerprints yet I know I have to patient for this.
Just want to ask you can I ask them to check about my case?
My USCIS location is Manhattan I heard the process here it takes longer than other.
And my case no is 2019AS106XX
Beside patient what I can do and should do?
If it’s normal for this just stay patient. That’s fine I’m doing it.
Thank you
July 3, 2019 at 18:02
you might be able to get an Infopass appointment to check on your case.
July 6, 2019 at 08:26
I tried to make appointment to infopass but seems like my location (Manhattan) they don’t do appointment and walk in at this time. I’ll call them on Monday again.
Should I ask them to speed up my case ? Is it annoying and rude to do that?
Thank you
July 6, 2019 at 11:31
Well it is more annoying to not get your case adjudicated by September 30th….
July 3, 2019 at 18:39
Hello Brit
Please Send me the link for I-134. Thank you
July 3, 2019 at 21:34
Did google break?
July 3, 2019 at 18:42
Hi Brit ?
In a situation where one is purely single but may be had got children out of wed lock, Obviousle DS 260 was then completed as single , with none children.
Suppose at a later date the fellow gets married to the mother of these chidren born out of wed lovk, would it be in order to include them at this stage as your children now that you are pfficially married to their mum ?
July 3, 2019 at 21:36
In that situation, the person would have committed immigration fraud by not declaring the kids, so that person would be better off not lying in the first place.
July 3, 2019 at 19:15
First of all thank you for all the responses. I am completing ds260. I have a situation: For the qualification part: My university life was divided in 3 parts, so 3 universities to get the diploma. The university diploma i got the qualification says started in 2014 and finished 2015. do i have to give details for previous ones where i started to arrive there? Thank you
July 3, 2019 at 21:37
Yes.
July 3, 2019 at 19:55
Hi Simon
I’d like to ask you about the interview, my case is that im not emplyed but still searching for the job i love, someone told that i have to show in the interview that im a hardworker or im studing at least doing something not just sitting at home! Is that correct or should i join to a school so i can tell that im studing!
Thank you.
July 3, 2019 at 22:37
Ignore “someone”. Just tell the truth.
July 3, 2019 at 20:27
Hello Brit
I completed my interview and got approved, after that they gave me a piece of paper regarding information to register for a passport return via Aramix, the website to register at is http://www.ustraveldocs.com, but the problem is that I can’t find the DV-1 visa in the list of immigration visas, what should I do?
Thank you
July 3, 2019 at 22:37
Look more carefully at the list. You are only trying to create a courier account.
July 4, 2019 at 11:17
I have double checked, there is no Diversity Visa in the list
July 4, 2019 at 15:19
OK – you need to use some common sense. Read very carefully ALL the options and think.
July 4, 2019 at 12:22
I have double checked the Immigrant Visa list it doesn’t contain any Diversity Visa. The list jumps from C-class visas to E-class without the DV-1,DV-2, and Dv-3, what should I choose?
July 3, 2019 at 21:02
Mr Brits, what is the maximum time required for passports to be returned to DV selectees after a successful interview especially here in Accra Ghana? We got approved on June 6, CEAC Status showed Visas issued and printed on June 18, but up until today July 3, embassy says they cannot tell the exact date when the passports would be forwarded to the Collection Point.

July 3, 2019 at 23:14
If the police certificate is going to be expired tomorrow And I will be going for interview today will it be granted by co
July 3, 2019 at 23:19
if interview is today and police certificate will be expired tomorrow, is the CO will grant the police certificate
July 4, 2019 at 00:22
That is OK.

Simon
LIVING IN THE U.S. ILLEGALLY & ENTERING DV PROGRAM
I read with interest that post from the Macedonian that overstayed since 2018 (a few posts above)
I have a very close connection in the US (from a Southern African country) who had a 10 year visa to visit the United States (don’t know whether multiple entry or single)
This person ended staying NINETEEN YEARS and is undocumented
This person also participates in the D.V. program every year (in the hope) even though she is already inside the US and technically unlawfully remaining
Is this person wasting their time (entering the D.V. program) – should I tell them (as someone who cares for that person)?
I know what they have done is wrong,………… doesn’t change the fact that they are very decent and also deserving (if they were to win, for example, they won)
Some people are desperate, like that father and daughter that swam across the Rio Grande in Texas
This person is also hoping in the 19 years there, they will (still) meet someone (get married) although that has not happened either and as I say there is “a hope” – not desperately seeking (as 19 years has also passed) – but is that hope wasting their time?
What will become of this person – either through DV program if success or otherwise (as suggested above)?
What is the best advice I can tell them as someone who cares for their welfare?
July 4, 2019 at 00:21
You cannot disrespect the laws of the USA for 19 years and then hope to benefit from the same set of laws. This person could not adjust status and will pick up a 10 year bar upon leaving. Then what should a CO say when that person asks for a waiver?
So yes – that person is wasting their time with the DV lottery.
July 4, 2019 at 02:34
Hi Brit, I have a question . I am a dv2020 winner from Asia Region (Nepal) and my case number is a ahead of 6500. I filled my ds-260 at may and yet I didnt receive anything from KCC. when will they notify me. Or what should I do. Am I consider as a safe.
July 4, 2019 at 03:53
You have a long time to wait. Relax.
July 4, 2019 at 05:45
MR.BrIT
Derivate documents only Birth Certificate, Police record , Marriage crrtificate,Passport, Right?
anything else?
No need highschool i assume, No need work experience, right?
July 4, 2019 at 15:01
All covered in the instructions. You need to read the instructions.
July 4, 2019 at 16:04
Well i downloaded the Jakarta embassy preparation List which is it only applies to main applicant not derivative.
All i read about instructions for derivative is Further documents processing, which is Birth certificate, passport, Police record , marriage Certificate.
July 4, 2019 at 16:20
Because im really concerned about my wife’s Highschool qualification since she only had vocational highschool diploma.
July 4, 2019 at 17:54
So why are you asking me?
July 4, 2019 at 05:48
Hi
I have been selected for 2019 visa lottery,i am in Ethiopia.
I am asked to submit the police certificate, bio-data page of my passport and birth certificate to KCC for further processing. I do send my documents as requested by the KCC and I got an automatic reply from KCC which says my documents are received for processing. However, after a weeks I got another email which says ”my email has been received by KCC but there is no document attached at this email”. So what do you think is the problem that i am facing???
Thank you in advance for any help from you!
July 4, 2019 at 15:04
“So what do you think is the problem that i am facing??”
Lacking basic reasoning skills.
Have you checked that the documents are actually attached to the email. Have you checked that the documents are complete and you have followed the instructions? They are telling you the problem!
July 4, 2019 at 07:07
Hello Mr Brits, thanks very much for the help you have been giving us . please I have a worry , I am 2019 winner , I have interview on the 6 of August . I realised that I printed only one page of DS 260 form , the first page , can I unlock the form and print the second page ? Or what should I do? Thanks for response, waiting
July 4, 2019 at 08:04
You need to print just the confirmation page the last one where a barcode and your information is situated ,no need for other pages
July 4, 2019 at 15:05
You don’t have to unlock the form to print from it.
July 4, 2019 at 08:14
Hi brit ! Can a green card holder be a sponsor of affidavit I-134 ,for principal appilcant and her derivative?
July 4, 2019 at 15:08
yes
July 4, 2019 at 09:08
Hi Brit,
I have some questions. I have dual citizenship, from AF and EU, but i was born in AF and now living back in AF i lived in EU for 15 years (my case number is AF23XX)
1-Should i send birth certificates from both contries or only from the one i am born and appling with?
2- Should i send the marrige certificate from my country of birth AF or were i got married in Europe?(it is the same person and we both have the same citizenships)
3- I am going to apply with my University degree, is there need to also translate and send my high school diploma?
4 -Only the principal applicant has to send the education or work expirence proof?
Many thanks
July 4, 2019 at 15:12
1. Were you born in both countries?
2. Really? – See 1.
3. Yes
4. Correct.
July 4, 2019 at 15:33
No of course not. But i transcribed all my docs to both of my nationalitys. So i have 2 passaports issued by different countrys but all biological details are the same (name,DOB etc)
I just want to know if i need to send from both countrys or only from the country i was born in AF.
Thanks.
July 4, 2019 at 15:42
You are just confusing yourself.
You were born once. That is one birth certificate.
You were married once. ONE MARRIAGE cert.
You have two citizenships, list them both.
July 4, 2019 at 12:06
hi britsimon
i lived in uae for 7 years and before leaving country i received my police certificate but my wife lived there a year so during that period i didn’t apply for police certificate for my wife as she is housewife…do i have to submitt my wife police certificate also??Note that now we both are moved to another country
July 4, 2019 at 15:23
If you had read the reciprocity page for UAE you would have seen this:
Court/ Police Certificates
Available: Only if applicant is physically present in the UAE.
So – no police cert required if you no longer live there.
July 4, 2019 at 12:06
Hi Brit, i’ve been selected for dv2020 with case Number 27XXX. In your opinion, how much are possibilities to get an interview? For what month?
Thank u.
July 4, 2019 at 15:24
LOL – “what month?”
How about WHAT REGION???
July 4, 2019 at 12:20
Hi Brit
My police certificate is expiring on the same day of my interview. Advise if I need to get new one. Thanks
July 4, 2019 at 15:25
Probably not, but get a new one if you are concerned.
July 4, 2019 at 13:05
Mr. Brit,
Did you or anyone noticed an EU2020 number higher than 55xxx?
July 4, 2019 at 15:27
Yes
July 5, 2019 at 11:55
Can you post refference or its here on your blog?
Highest subscribers so far at russian and turkey forums are 55k.
July 5, 2019 at 17:39
No need to be so obsessed about that…
July 4, 2019 at 13:12
Hi Brit, am dv2020 winner AF44XXX,
I have no biological children but i have been living with twins for a year now, am in the process of adopting them, but in my entry i didnt put them, can i add them now or wait, i havent submitted ds260,
July 4, 2019 at 15:29
You cannot add adopted children UNLESS you had adopted them at least TWO YEARS ago (with legal documentation).
July 4, 2019 at 14:17
Hi Simon,
Thank you for you support though this blog!
I have a complicated question. My mom has won a green card, and I was 20 years old at the moment we filled our first application for the green card(October, 2017). However, on the day when we opened and saw that my moms is selected (May 20, 2018) I was already over 21. But I was also included in the case and asked to fill the DS-260 form. Our case number is current at July 2019. Is there any chance I can still get a visa?
Thank you!
July 4, 2019 at 15:31
No, you have aged out.
July 4, 2019 at 19:46
Are there any exceptions, or this rule is fixed for every case? Do you think it is worth to spend 300 USD to get interviewed with my family or not?
July 5, 2019 at 01:55
No exceptions.
July 4, 2019 at 15:44
Hi Simon, 2019AF00031XXX documents submitted and KCC confirmed all correct and being processed.
1)When should we expect 2NL’s to be received for Sept 2019 interviews?
2) In a previous post a backlog was mentioned – how does this affect the 2NL’s? do you know?
Appreciate your feedback
July 4, 2019 at 17:54
1. Same as every other month.
2. Too late to worry about that now…
July 4, 2019 at 17:58
hey Mr Brit
there’s an update in my case.
after the physician checked my body he saw 4 scars (not deep just on the surface) on my arm
He sent me to do drug test and it came out fine then he sent me to visite a psychiatrist and I visited him and he said your normal
plz my question is
I wonder if the consul gonna question me about the procedure(my scars) I went through or not
thank you so much
respect
July 4, 2019 at 18:08
I don’t know.
July 4, 2019 at 22:14
Thank you
July 4, 2019 at 18:02
Hi Brit, This on behalf of my friend. DV2019 Applicant. He is a Syrian having Dual nationality, Sudanese, so was exempted from the travel ban. However at the time of the interview he didn’t provide a sponsor’s details and was put on administrative process and that showed in the status of his application on CEAC Status tracker. four days after he provided sponsor’s details and documents ( two weeks back) the status changed to refused. is this a status in between AP and Issued or that’s it? known that his passports ( main applicants and family members) are still in the US embassy in Sudan and he got no notification on having to collect them either way. any idea of what could be going on? I am asking you as you are exposed to tremendous amount of queries and questions so you get well oriented with how the process goes. Thank you for being such a help.
July 4, 2019 at 18:07
Refused is not an interim status, it is normally final. In due course they will contact your friend, but it is likely this is a final decision.
July 4, 2019 at 18:25
Don’t know how to thank you for your prompt response, i will update you here on what happens next in my friend’s case.
In my case our status was refused to start with, although told by the CO that we were given a waiver, (main applicant is my spouse, dual national), and we were asked to submit DS-5535 for me, wife and 15 year old child, other three children unaffected.
Upon submitting DS-5535 our status changed from refused to Administrative processing, one month back.
We are still waiting ( God knows till when). I know that there is no time limit for the process and all we can do is pray and keep fingers crossed that we get a response before last week of September.
Also will update you on the response that i may get.
Yet again thank you.
July 4, 2019 at 19:02
It may be that this embassy is using the statuses that way because of the travel ban impacts.
July 4, 2019 at 18:25
Hello Brit, i have been selected in dv lottery 2020 with case number EU27XXX How many chances do I have to get the interview?
July 4, 2019 at 19:03
It is too soon to know since we don’t know how may people are selected. In a couple of weeks we will know more.
July 4, 2019 at 18:34
What questions do they usually ask at the airport ?! And can i pay for mt green card at the airport ?!
July 4, 2019 at 19:03
1. Almost none.
2. No, you pay online.
July 4, 2019 at 18:52
Hi Brit, good day! My brother received his interview appointment date for August 26th (CN AF34×××). For Nairobi.
1- We did not see any instructions for confirming the appointment like i have read from others. Do we need to ?
2- his son turned 22 in May 1st 2019. We think he aged out based on the age specifics. Are we correct?
3- is 2 weeks prior to interview good to do the medical or 3 weeks ahead is better?
Thank you.
July 4, 2019 at 19:05
1. Read the embassy specific instructions. I think Nairobi require courier registration.
2. Yes
3. Ask the physician.
July 5, 2019 at 09:03
Thank you so much for prompt response. Also i forgot to mention his 1982 high school leaving certificate has first name slight different spelling from his other documents. (Fozi instead of Fauzi). The ministry of education informed him they cannot change his name on the certificate.
Will this create an issue? If so, how to solve this? Thank you.
July 5, 2019 at 17:17
It should not be a problem.

You REALLY need to take responsibility for your own case. Read the instructions to know what documents to take. Get an I-134. Make sure you are fully prepared.

Hi Britsimon:
Thanks for all the efforts. Since 2018, I have been following your website. I am a DV2019 winner AF201900031***. I will be going for my interview July 9, Tuesday. I just realized my Police Clearance shall expire July 17, 2019. Do I have to get a renewed one or just proceed to the interview on July 9 with the clearance?

Proceed.

Hi brit i hope you are doing well. So i have submitted my ds260 form in may but recently i have noticed that maybe a did a mistake in number of educational institutions attended ( i wrote 1 ) and since im stident at the university now i got confused. And after reading people’s comments that we should write 2 or 3 in that case. It made me more nervous. So i hope you can provide me with the right information and if it is true that i made that mistake how can i correct it. I hope that you got my point and thank you
July 5, 2019 at 06:01
Yes you made a mistake. Unlock and correct.
July 5, 2019 at 06:07
How could i unlock it and what should i write ? Hhhhh and also another thing. I put my passport id that will expire in january 2020 is it okay ?
July 5, 2019 at 17:10
Read the FAQ about unlocking.
You will probably have to replace your passport – so if I were you I would do that now so you can add the new passport details to the DS260.

hello Brit after reading Houssine comment, I realised I made the same mistake when filling educational institution. I wrote but 1 and that is my university institution. I never mentioned my secondary institution. I have already received the ready for scheduling message and if all goes on well I might be scheduled for September.
1. Please what do you advice me to do?
2. Can it cause denial or any problems at interview?
Thanks. 2019AF46xxx

Just take all education proof to the interview. You do not unlock at this time.
