Hi Brit,
Question 01 – I have worked in two companies as part time basis 12 years ago and i have got paid. do i need to include them on work experience in DS260?
Question 02 – I hope to qualified by my work experience and currently i have completed my bachelors and started my MBA in a different institute. so, can be MBA institute consider as a “Number of Educational Institutions Attended” question? because i have not completed masters yet.
Thanks.
July 11, 2019 at 21:15
1. No
2. Completed.
July 12, 2019 at 09:06
What do you mean by completed? should i count no. of institutes as 1 or 2? (Bsc/MBA)
July 12, 2019 at 14:39
Count those that you have completed the course of study. If you are still at some institution, that is current occupation.

July 11, 2019 at 16:43
When the list of selected by country comes out, do they refer to the nationality of the selected ones or of the country where they reside?
July 11, 2019 at 21:14
Birth or chargeabilty.

Hello Brit,
I was going through visa bulletin for August.I noticed “The diversity lottery was conducted under the terms of section 203(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act and makes available up to 55,000 permanent resident visas annually to persons from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.”
Does this mean this year the 55000 DV visa is allocated?
Similarly, the case number for Aisa region is higher even for Nepal,Does this hint higher number of hole?
Thanks.
July 11, 2019 at 21:13
Read my holes article to understand.

Hi Simon,
Currently i have working as a senior technical lead in a reputed IT company and migrated to a newly startup company before few months ago as a software architect. but they asks for two years of working experience in occupation that i designated.
when filling DS260, adding my new company and details as a current employer will be a problem? or add previously employment details? because i just only have 3 months of work experience as a software architect. (total of 6 years of experience in IT)
Thanks.
July 11, 2019 at 21:05
No problem.
July 11, 2019 at 23:55
What do you mean by no problem sir?
July 12, 2019 at 05:57
What do you think it means??? NO PROBLEM is a good thing. Relax.
July 13, 2019 at 19:04

Hi Brit, thanks for being an inspiration to us your followers .I happened to be a dv 2019 winner and was married to my wife because the results came out .The point is we filled the ds260 together because we hoped to attain the interview together, but due to the crisis in my country,my business and house was put on fire and won’t be able to attain interview with her as i have decided to travel alone. Will that be a problem ?
July 11, 2019 at 21:00
No.
July 11, 2019 at 18:21
Brit,
I was informed by the embassy that my AP is completed, this is after one full month of stressful wait and that I should send back the passports via dhl. Do you think its going to be another long wait as they request kcc for our visa reallocation? this AP thing isn’t interesting at all.
July 11, 2019 at 20:59
Patience…
July 11, 2019 at 18:30
Dear Simon,
Thank you for all the great work you provide us with the green card lottery! My question is: Is it possible to validate the DV1 visa at one port of entry? For instance, at the port of entry in Montreal. Passengers flying to US from YUL airport in Montreal have the customs clearance and passports checked there instead of the final destination in the US. I am just wondering if the validation of the visa provided by the consulate can also be done there. Please let me know. Regards, Marco
July 11, 2019 at 20:58
You have to be entering the US.
July 12, 2019 at 18:21
Yes, it will be flying from Montreal to Miami
July 12, 2019 at 18:25
So it will be done in one place or another. I’m not certain which.
July 11, 2019 at 18:42
Sir,
If i applied for student visa for Czech Republic and because of this process if there is a sign in my passport that shows i applied for student visa and it is on process.Does it cause any problem for me in the interview?
July 11, 2019 at 20:57
I dont know.

Hello Simon & everyone
I would like to hear from those who managed to get a green card and already immigrated to US (and Simon) for an opinion.
How much money in total did you have when you travelled in the US for the first time, how many person(s) you were and how much money did you take in cash (and total). How much did you spend the first month, how was it?
What do you think would be the best, how much money to have when travelling the first time, for a couple
July 12, 2019 at 05:58
It varies. Check the costs of living in the area where you plan to go.

HI Brit. Filing the DS260 form shows along the children names Accompany. However, whilst filing the DS260 form for principal applicant the below was filled for the children.
Is this child immigrating to the U.S. with you? NO
Is this child immigrating to the U.S. at a later date to join you? YES
I am curious to know if they will travel with me now?
July 12, 2019 at 05:59
What a daft question. Surely you can see the answers. So – what do you want to do?
July 12, 2019 at 09:46
Hi Simon, I want to thank you for all the informations you provide on your blog and all the efforts you make to answer every question. This helped me a lot in this whole lottery process and I finally had my passport yesterday with my visa in it. Thanks from the depth of my heart, and when I move to the US I will sure make my donation.
July 12, 2019 at 14:39
Congratulations!
July 12, 2019 at 14:51
Hi brit,
I have a question please, i submitted DS260 but i’m still wondring if i should re-open it to make an edit, i have a high school degree and i mentioned it and i have been in an university for 1 year but i got no degree from it so i didn’t mention it (btw the university signed in the back of my high school degree that mean i was a student for one year there), then i write my current vacational school.
1)Is that may cause me a problem ?
2)Should i re open it and add the 1 year of university ?
3)Does opening ds260 for edits may cause some problem ?
4)Does freelancing while studying is considered as an occupation that i have to mention beside my primary occupation as student?
July 12, 2019 at 15:37
1. I don’t know
2. Yes
3. No
4. Not normally.
July 12, 2019 at 15:33
Hi, just a question so I can understand the process. From what I understand, the US only issues a maximum of 55,000 diversity visas each year. So if the number of selectees this year is 83,884, does that mean 28,884 people that were selected won’t get a visa? Meaning when they reach 55,000 they just stop issuing visas? Or am I missing something?
July 12, 2019 at 15:39
Not everyone proceeds. Some get refused. But they control the Visa bulletin to make sure they don’t exceed the cap.
July 12, 2019 at 16:29
brit is there still time for interwiew 2019EU29XXX . they asked for documents and i sent???
July 12, 2019 at 17:43
Possibly. Did you ask them if they were satisfied with the documents?
July 12, 2019 at 18:04
no. is that a problem ? they procesed the ds260 and kcc sent the message of required documents..
is there anything else to do or just wait for an interwiew date ??
thank you for your time …
July 12, 2019 at 18:16
Use reply please.
You can just wait to see if you are scheduled, but I suggest checking so that maybe you have time to correct things if your documents were not satisfactory.
July 12, 2019 at 21:33
okay maybe i’ll ask if they are satisfied. But if i don’t would you predict anything about interwiew , will the 2nd letter gonna be sent this month or in august ??
Again , thank youu so much for your time …

July 12, 2019 at 19:15
Hi Brit
am DV 2020 since than I have been reading your great article and thought, but am still having doubts regarding the previous addresses in DS260 my case is after I completed the high school I had to move to another city within the country to complete university studies that time I was on twenties so would that be considered as different address knowing that every school break I go back to my permanent address, second thing right now am living outside of my country for about eight years I visit every year once the question is would I need the get police clearances from both countries or just where I live.
thank you so much for your great effort.,
July 12, 2019 at 19:45
Consider your home address as your permanent address at that time of studying. If in doubt, get the police certs for all countries.
July 12, 2019 at 19:52
if my police clearance certificate is value for 90day ,it will be expired on August 2,2019 and I will be interviewed on August 3, 2019 will it be OK for the co
July 12, 2019 at 20:04
I would personally replace it – but technically it may be accepted.
July 12, 2019 at 21:23
Hi Simon,
I fill my DS260 with my husband, unknowing that I should fill the same DS260 for my children.
Two days back was my interview there is where I was informed that I did not fill the DS260 for my children from that point I email them for a rescheduled of my interview.
My question here are:
– Should I reopened and fill the DS260 for my children
– from the day I send my rescheduled mail have not heard from them. Should I be worried about it
July 12, 2019 at 21:45
Oh my. Why on earth have you done that? You have created a risk for your case.
You need to follow the instructions from the embassy and keep contacting them to ask when you can be rescheduled.
July 13, 2019 at 00:46
brit.my girlfriend delivered two days after i arrived in the state. How do i inform the embassy or usciss about the child since i wasnt having any child during the interview.
2. I plan to marry her and file for her and the child next year soo dat in 2years time they will join me. Will usciss see this as a fraudulent issue since i didnt inform them about the child after she was born
July 13, 2019 at 02:36
You don’t need to inform them but you must make sure your name is on the birth cert. Then once you marry and you are settled in the USA with a job you can start an I-130 process.
July 13, 2019 at 01:27
Hell Mr: Simon I have a question I fill up to my brother over 21 old I-130 that take 10 years in Virginia but I moved to California how do let immigration that I move to California and how longe applications take
July 13, 2019 at 02:48
I only answer DV lottery questions.
July 13, 2019 at 20:07
Ok thank you sorry
July 13, 2019 at 03:28
Hi Simon: DV2019 selectee here, thanks your guidance, I have received visa 2 days after interview and plan to make my 1st entry in Nov but only to settle in Q3 2020.
Have a question related to change of my status. The DV was processed base on passport of my birth county, and I will be obtaining another citizenship in 2020 and will use its passport moving forward, the name will be different (not due to marriage/divorce) from the one in current passport. Assuming the GC will also bear my current name, my Q:
1)can or should the change (citizenship, name) be updated with USCIS and to obtain new GC? Or
2) perhaps I can delay paying the fee, and Update status/ name with USCIS, then pay the fee to have GC printed?
3) should I use I-90 if following 1)? What is the process for 2)?
Thanks heaps!
July 13, 2019 at 03:56
It’s not something I have any idea about.
July 13, 2019 at 04:44
Hi brit,
What is the highest case number u heard from Asia in year 2019?

July 13, 2019 at 06:55
Hey Brit, thank you so much again for all the resources.
Case # EU24XXX I’m here in California with a O1 visa that expires in July2020.
1) In the work/education section of the DS260 I insert the secondary level and above degree info, but even if in many posts you recommend to only satisfy on requirement, would not be weird if I respond NO to the question “does your job requires 2 years of experience” since I’m here with that kind of visa?
2) I’m traveling back to Europe August/Sept, considering the current numbers, is it a good time now to file the DS or should I wait October?
Thanks again,
Leo
July 13, 2019 at 15:01
1. I never say ONLY satisfy the requirement – I say list all the education and tell the truth.
2. You could wait with no harm – but aren’t you filing adjustment of status?
July 13, 2019 at 15:47
1. Ok I thought you had to pick one requirement but In that case, if I’m listing both education and work experience, can be part of my education (university) also considered the 2 years of training (as a Music Producer/Sound Designer).
2. No I am filling CP. I think It would be a good opportunity to go back to visit as well. Is it ok?
Thanks again for all this!
July 13, 2019 at 17:22
1. OK
2. Yes.
July 13, 2019 at 20:54
Thank you so much.
However the Primary Occupation on the DS260 is “Artist/Performer” and on the O*Net Database the closest occupation with SVP above 7 is “Musicians,Instrumental”. Since my college degree is in “Sound Design”, can I still prove that my occupation requires 2 years of experience or should I just go with my Education Level replying NO to that question to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings?
Leo
July 13, 2019 at 22:22
You are too hung up on this yes/no answer. IT DOES NOT MATTER what you answer, yes or no. Pick one. Move on. Really.
July 13, 2019 at 07:30
QDear Brit thanks for your assistance, would like to ask a question. My case no: is EU7****, I have already submitted my DS260, so when to expect doc submission notification? do I need to make docs ready ASAP?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.
July 13, 2019 at 14:18
It is EU7***
July 13, 2019 at 16:59
First – your number should be quoted with year and correct number of X’s. So – you, I assume, are 2020EU7XXX.
They will email you for documents in the next couple of months. Patience…
July 13, 2019 at 08:12
One more question please, i had a previous work experience, the office was closed, so in my DS260 , in the address field I mentioned only the street name as i could not find the building number, is it an issue?
July 13, 2019 at 17:01
No.
July 13, 2019 at 09:32
Dear BritSimon
Thanks for your endless full time help
My case is scheduled and Medical also done waiting for Result my Question is
1) what is the next step to do ?
2) Is DV-case will required Bank statement to provide on interview date?
3) some one told me as required ” I-134″ form my sponsor in USA how I can gide him to send me this form?
for your usual assistance
Thanks
July 13, 2019 at 17:05
1. Prepare for the interview.
2. Yes, or an I-134.
3. Read the FAQ about the I-134.
July 13, 2019 at 21:54
Dear BritSimon thank you for your great job .
Sure brother if I provide Bank statement no need an I-134 from my Sponsor in USA ? Sorry for repeating please guarantee me
2) This bank statement to be provide will have special additional requirement or simply statement print with out addressing to USA Embassy ?
July 13, 2019 at 23:27
1. I recommend an I-134. If you want a guarantee, buy a toaster.
2. Just bank statements if you choose to show that…
July 13, 2019 at 11:13
Hi Simon,
I need help some help with some of the questions on the DS-260 concerning previous US travel.
1. Have you ever been in the US?
Yes. I used to work on a cruise ship as a crew (staff) member and been issued a c1/d (crewmember in transit) visa. On the DS-260 I should provide information about my last 5 US visits and since cruise ships are regularly coming and leaving it’s kinda hard to narrow down the last 5 visits. Can this cause me any trouble?
2. Were you issued an Alien Registration Number by the Department of Homeland Security?
The c1/d visa alone is not enough to allow crewmembers to get off the ship in US ports of call so the US coast and border protection is issuing every crewmember a crewman’s landing permit commonly known as a I-95 which is renewed every 3 months during you contract. So I’m not sure should the answer on this be yes or no?
3. Have you ever been refused a US visa, been refused admission to the US, or withdrawn your application for admission at the port of entry?
Upon my firs arrival in US on a cruise ship the US coast and border protection refused to issue the I-95 permit to me. This basically meant that I am not allowed to get off the ship in US ports of call until my next appointment is scheduled with the CBP. It was explained to me that this is a common practice for crewmembers which are arriving for the first time in the US on a ship and on my next appointment the I-95 was issued to me without any trouble (and every next time). The same happened to a lot of others cremembers.
So should my answer be Yes-been refused admission to the US?
Thank you in advance
July 13, 2019 at 17:12
1. Just list it accurately. Relax.
2. Answer no.
3. Answer yes, just to be overly safe.
July 26, 2019 at 00:01
Thank you for your help Simon!
I will need your assistance once again.
We (me and my wife) hope to qualify through education, so the question is at what point do you have to prove your education requirement, is it at the interview or on the ds 260 form?
I’m not sure if the correct way is to write down the job you have at the moment on the Present work/education/training information section, and then on the Previous work/education/training information just list the type of education you have?
I really don’t want to make a mistake filing the form.
I know this should be pretty much straightforward but I still find this part of the form a bit confusing, so your help will be greatly appreciated.
July 27, 2019 at 03:12
Answer the questions one by one – accurately. You will list all education from age 12 or so and all work experience. You provide proof of education at the interview.
July 13, 2019 at 12:24
Hello Brit how you doing
A friend have a problem with ds260 information
She is the main applicant, she didn’t mentioned in ds260 that her husband was divorced before he meet her.. she forgot that !! she have interview 15/07
I want to know what she have to do in this situation?
July 13, 2019 at 17:13
It will probably not even come up – relax.
July 13, 2019 at 20:34
But she is wondering if she have to tell the CO about this information or to hide it !!
What do you think Mr Simon ?
Thank You for your response !!
July 13, 2019 at 22:20
If asked, tell the truth. Just that.
July 13, 2019 at 12:56
Try filling with Internet Explorer/Edge. I didn’t get CAPTCHA at all when I did that where as Chrome repeatedly showed CAPTCHA.
July 13, 2019 at 12:59
Also remove the leading zeros from the case number in the final screen. Ex. enter 2020AF00012345 as 2020AF12345.
July 13, 2019 at 14:01
Brit if i don’t ask if they are satisfied with documents will it be a big problem .
I send the passport
police certificate
and birth certificate.
would you predict when they’re gonna sent me the interwiew date ?
thank you for your time …
July 13, 2019 at 17:17
Wait and see.
July 13, 2019 at 15:55
A malicious person has added a participant on my DS 260 as my wife, but I am not married and I do not know the girl in question. At first, he did not complete the form of the girl. My form is already completed and submitted to KCC. How to remove this girl?
July 13, 2019 at 17:22
You can’t and you were unwise to give someone that power over you. Email KCC and let them know.
July 13, 2019 at 16:07
Hi Brit
My case in 2019AF10***
KCC sent my 2NL in Dec 2018 but unfortunately it went to my spam mail (updates cache in gmail). I saw it in May 2019 and (un)fortunately I had been scheduled for interview in Feb 2019. I phoned and emailed KCC and NRB embassy who instructed I proceed with medicals and once done, I inform them to reschedule my interview.
Fast forward, on 3rd July 2019, I went for my interview and CO (Consular Officer)asked if I’ve ever been married before and responded NO. Further on the CO asked if I was in a relationship and I answered YES. The CO asked a few questions about my relationship (e.g. his name, years we’ve been dating) and I responded accordingly also mentioning that I have been engaged recently- I had noted that the CO was looking at my engagement ring or so I thought.
The CO dint ask any further questions and politely told me, they will send me a few questions and we’ll take it from there thus I was put on AP (Administrative Processing). On 8th July 2019, supplemental questions were sent to me via email and among the questions asked, was to name current and former spouse(s) – living and deceased. I wrote N/A. To the best of my knowledge, a spouse is person’s husband / wife and you must have proof ie a marriage certificate.
My question: is a fiancé considered a spouse and could I be disqualified based on this issue?
July 13, 2019 at 17:21
Jeez. What a long way to ask a simple question….
No.
July 13, 2019 at 17:49
brit how lond does it take to process the documents after they process ds260 ?
And when can an interwiew be scheduled?
2019EU29XXX, thank you ..
July 13, 2019 at 19:38
I just realized you are a 2019 cae. The ONLY remaining chance for an interview is September, and opportunity is almost over for scheduling of September interviews. So – I hope your DS260 is already submitted and you have sent documents. Hopefully you have also asked them if they are satisfied with your documents. If all that is done, all you can do is wait and hope.

Hi Sir,
I did Ds260 weeks ago but i don’t remember if i had to put my 8 years school (primary and secondary) that we do before high school.
1- Did i have to put it somewhere? Because if yes i think i forgot to put that the first 3 years i was in another school and than 5 years in another.
(In my adress i did mention it, that i had lived in another adress until class 4)
2- Where can i see again the Ds-260 that i have completed?
Thank you

Hi Brit, The sign and Submit button at the end of filing the DS260 did not move to the next page rather it reloads and give a new CATCHER to enter. Tried it a lot of time but cant go through, What could be the reason sir
