Hi Simon,
Regarding the below question in DS260,
“Have you lived anywhere other than this address since the age of sixteen?”
From the age of 16 i have lived in our home with my family which was owned by my father but after age 21 i have moved to a another rented house to go to my job because of the distance to travel from home. so do i need to add this rented place on DS260?
July 19, 2019 at 13:41
If you lived there, yes.

Hi Brits,
I made a mistake on my DS 260. My date of birthday is December 9, but put November 9. I only realised it just 2weeks ago. I’ve sent all my documents and KCC says it is certified with all my documents( passport bio-data page, police clearance, birth certificate, etc.) and as far as record indicates, all is okay
My case no. is 2019AF00025xxx. I’m expecting my appointment this month for September hopefully.
Please tell the way forward to avoid denial. Please!
July 19, 2019 at 13:44
Send KCC an email explaining that you noticed the mistake. That’s all.

Could you tell me please due to changes this permanent address in dv lottery entry form and ds 260 form, will reject my case for the further processing by KCC?

Hi Simon
I hve questions
1.can us dv lottery immigrant be a sponsor for me he went there 2018?
2.for the past 13 years i was moving from one area to another inside my country do i need to list all of them and do i hve to get police clearance letter for each one of them?
Thanks
July 20, 2019 at 18:53
1. Probably another sponsor would be better.
2. You follow procedures in your country and according to the reciprocity page instructions.

Hi Simon
Q01 – Do we need to include training (internship) under “Were you previously employed?” question in DS260? because category names as “Work/Education/Training Information”
Q02 – Following a Masters can be a consider as one institute in “Number of Educational Institutions Attended” in DS260?
Please help me to sort out above issues 🙂
Thanks
July 19, 2019 at 20:29
1. No
2. Possibly, yes.
July 19, 2019 at 17:53
Dear Mr Simon .
thank you so much for your guidance .I have some questions which are :
1:my case no is 2020AS80xx. my supervisor has left his job and his official phone number is expired and I don’t have his current No or other contact detailes so i have mentioned my provincial program coordinator name and contact detailes in ds 260 . this person also knows me and have information about my job and job description .and he can give them full information about my previous job is it ok to mention my coordinator as a supervisor?.
my other supervisor does not have availabilty to phone or internet so I have mentioned two local numbers in the phone No section , one of my supervisor and one from human resources officer as well to give them 100% available source of information .is it right?.
2: I have translated my job descriptions and duties of my previous jobs from local languages with a little bit missing is it right?.
3:do they want my work certificates or contracts papers ?
sorry for a long post.thank you again.
July 19, 2019 at 20:33
1. Wow. Overthinking. Just list the job, and the contact you think is best.
2. Probably.
3. Possibly. If you meet the education requirement they won’t ask anything about your work experience.
July 19, 2019 at 18:07
I’m from Venezuela, and my family and I went to the United States Embassy in Bogotá this morning for an interview (DV2019). I am the principal. My husband and my daughter are the secondary ones. The photo that my husband used to register in the lottery is the same one he used to apply for his tourist visa. For this reason the visas of the three were denied. My question is, can they deny the visa to the principal, even if the problem is about the photo of one of the secondary ones?
July 19, 2019 at 20:38
Technically yes, they can do what they want. They can judge it that YOU failed to follow the process correctly (because you did not ensure your derivative follow the process), and they could also assume that you would struggle to support yourself without your husband if only he were denied.
It’s a harsh decision, cruel even, but technically allowed – and frankly, immigration is a privilege, not a right. I’m sorry that happened to you. Very frustrating that your husband did not follow the instructions.
You can *ask* them to reconsider – but they certainly don’t have to do so.
July 20, 2019 at 19:02
Mr. Simon,
I am 2020 dv lottery winner, My husband stay f1 visa in united states and completed his course in 04 years but he overstayed 03 months after his studies in the year 2003. . is it a problem at the interview?
Rgds
Nancy j
July 20, 2019 at 19:13
It means he should not adjust status – so as long as you both process outside of the USA that would not be a problem.
July 20, 2019 at 16:08
Did your husband get his tourist visa approved??? IF so ,DID he OVERSTAY his visa?????just asking and hope you’ll reply? Thanks in advance!
July 20, 2019 at 16:26
Yes, his tourist visa was approved. But, it does not matter if it was approved or denied, the result would have been the same.
By the way, additionally they canceled our tourist visas. The consul said there was no punishment for us if we wanted to apply for new visas or continue participating in the lottery.
July 19, 2019 at 21:27
Hi,
I have read the documents required for the interview. May I know your opinion please, what would happen if I don’t take bank account reports (even though i have money, but not a lot).
Theres no info saying that i should have financial evidence prove that i have enough money to support myself, so if i dont take it , would they deny my visa?
July 19, 2019 at 23:45
Possibly yes. As to the comment that “no info saying that i should have financial evidence prove that i have enough money to support myself” – that is nonsense. If you actually READ the instructions and FAQ you will see the financial support is discussed right from the very beginning.
July 20, 2019 at 00:26
Hi Simon, where would I input memberships? Some time ago I posted about my legal bar qualifications and you explained it’s better to input in memberships and not in education, but unfortunately I can’t find the memberships section anywhere in the DS260… has this section been removed?

Dear Simon,
One of my family member is also a winner of DV lottery 2020, he is from ASIA (Nepal), Recently he got an email from KCC that they need his passport, birth certificate & police report scan copy, after getting this document only they informed him for the interview. What does it mean ? is there any wrong in DS 260 or it Is a regular process ? I would like to request you clarify us please. We will wait for your response…
July 20, 2019 at 02:14
@Gunaraj. It is the process! May you kindly let me know the range of your family member’s case number, CN?
July 20, 2019 at 05:14

Good morning Big Brit,

Thanks for this long journey help .
Be blessed more and more
July 20, 2019 at 09:09
Hello Mr. Brit
In DS-260 application, there is question about social media
I copied the LINKs of my pages and put them under Facebook, Linkebln, and VK.
Tell me please did I correct if there are links of my pages?
Thank you.
July 20, 2019 at 15:11
They ask for usernames, not links.
July 21, 2019 at 12:32
Sir simon
I think you can use either your username or your socialmedia handle which is the direct link for your fb page , which is much more easier than just the username
This is the instructions at DS 260 at the right side of the page “ to use the handle or the username”
July 20, 2019 at 09:15
Hello Simon,
Sorry my english is not great, I’ll try to explain.
My wife has been selected for 2020 dv lottery. I’m derivative. We filled the DS260 form. Can you clarify me an issue I have about the financial proof. I will explain it simple and directly.
I have been employed constantly since 2015, as a teacher (im derivative winner) while my wife has been employed since 10 of June 2020 as a manager (she is principal winner).
We have about $15 000 to take in the US. My question is , should I have the majority of this money on my bank account deposit because I have been employed since 2015 or should my wife has in her account the majority of this money ?
(because we have to prove we wont be public charge, but shes been employed just before 40 days) we might have the interview after 10 or 12 months. What do you say?
July 20, 2019 at 15:12
Get an I-134.
July 20, 2019 at 20:49
Simon I’m now more worried :(( . I didnt plan to get an I-134 Affidavit of Support (and actually i dont think i have such person in US), because I have money.
I have money, dont have a problem about the money.
The thing is that I’m from an eastern european country, we are used to save money in cash, at home, with us, i didnt have them in bank.
Can you tell me and clarify me this please, should I deposit them on my wifes bank account (shes principal winner and during the time of interview she will have 1 year work experience) or my bank account (im derivative winner and I have been working since 2015) ?
Which bank account should have more , in this case.
July 20, 2019 at 21:32
Which bank, doesn’t matter.
July 20, 2019 at 22:21
It doesnt matter? Simon, please explain me better. Look I can deposit on my or wife’s bank account above the Poverty guideline for 2019 for 2 person(s) but whats the best to do in this case, if I have the required money/cash (because i have worked part time with cash money too, so i have enough money) but I have been working since 2015 (derivative winner) while my wife since JUne,2019 (principal winner). So in which bank account to put more money or how to split them or what to do , please?
July 20, 2019 at 22:33
One bank or another doesn’t matter. No need to keep asking about the accounts. The Amount is important. At least 10k per person. Now read the FAQ.
July 20, 2019 at 22:35
Simon already answer your doubts. You can deposit into any bank. It does not matter.
July 21, 2019 at 09:21
Did you pay tax on all that cash under the mattress – you keep repeating you have so much of it, almost boasting you have so much cash and don’t know with whom to stash it with so you can look good when called for your interview
The US government doesn’t like tax evaders, hope you paid tax
July 21, 2019 at 14:49
@Purnima. Mind your own business rather than making silly comments.
July 20, 2019 at 14:06
Hello Simon,
I have been reading and following your guides for a few months now. It is very informative and it provides good guide in many aspects.
I’m a winner of DV19, I got my DS-260 approved and I received NL2 in July, my appointment is set for 6th of Aug. I have done the medical, for me and my family members.
I’m Immigrating with my wife and four kids, I’m basing my immigration financial support in my own savings and the business I’m running in UAE (I’m living here since 2001, and started my company in UAE in Mar, 2018), so I didn’t fill Form I-134. I’m showing personal and business bank statements (6 months) as well as letters from previous experiences I had.
I hold a Syrian passport (I hope that won’t be an issue for me).
I’ve prepared all the required papers (passports, photos, birth certificates, security clearance, etc.), all is in order.
Just want to check with you if you have any suggestions (other than what you mentioned in your website) to help me increase my chances.
Appreciate your great support.
July 20, 2019 at 15:15
An I-134 would increase your chances. If you rely on your own savings, you must show substantial liquid assets (basically savings in a bank).
July 20, 2019 at 15:32
Substantial…can you mention any approximate figure…as I’m also planning to show my savings.
July 20, 2019 at 22:45
@Trendy,
Simon already has the blog to explain you. Please read it below to see what you need to know. https://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty-guidelines

July 21, 2019 at 22:30
Hello Brit! I appreciate your time on helping us.
I and my wife have finaliséd on a divorce as we have no kids and we divorced a few weeks ago though I am used to being with someone. I recently unlocked my ds-260 with her and I am asking;
1. can I marry someone?
2. If yes/no, what should I do on the ds-260?
3. Should I marry her before I resubmit my ds-260 or after?
4. Shall I need proof of everything to prove it’s not sham marriage?
5. When should I re-submit the DS-260 (2020af19***)
6. When should I expect the 2nl after submission?
Thank you so much for your Time.
July 21, 2019 at 22:57
Sorry for the disturbance but On addition to that,
Our marriage wasn’t registered by the government even the divorce is a religious divorce not a court divorce though I had submitted as married because I was though not court.
7. Will I have to use the court divorce to be safe?
8. Do I have to register my marriage with the government and not religious marriage?
9. Do you see any Sula In this?
10. If yes, advise me please.
Thank you please.

July 22, 2019 at 04:45
*9- do you see any risk in my process as it went beyond my control. I have nothing to do but now worried to lose my opportunity ?
Your word will be my cure Simon.
July 22, 2019 at 05:51
Your questions show a bizarre need to be married – that could create risk.
July 22, 2019 at 05:46
7. I don’t know – use your judgement.
8. Same answer.
9. Huh?
July 22, 2019 at 05:45
1. “someone”?? You seem to be thinking wrong. Do you have someone you can’t move without?? Then marry – but don’t marry just for another Green Card.
2. Read the FAQ.
3. FAQ
4. Yes
5. By April next year
6. It depends. READ THE FAQ.

July 21, 2019 at 12:26

July 21, 2019 at 14:59
If you want.
July 20, 2019 at 15:47
Hi Simon – sorry if this is a silly question – for work history over past 10 years should I include part time work or just full time employment?
July 20, 2019 at 18:50
Focus on full time.
July 20, 2019 at 15:49
Hi simon it has been well over two month since i arrived here in america and i still don’t have my GC yet. Do you know if i can visit a uscis office and ask them about my case? The online tool they have doesn’t provide the information i need other than telling me they have received my payment for the fee and my GC will be sent to me with in 120 days. A friend of mine who came with me already got his GC a month ago.
July 20, 2019 at 18:50
Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 months. But why is waiting a problem? There should be no reason that this is causing a problem.
July 20, 2019 at 19:30
he little brother of my friend won the lottery dv 2020 but his case number is after 50,000
can he easily get his visa
July 20, 2019 at 21:31
Easily?? I dont know. Will get an interview? Well it helps to know the region and year.
July 20, 2019 at 22:57
another question BRIT a cousin told me that his friend’s fiancé won the DV lottery dv 2020
is it possible that he travels together once married.
she still did not fill the form ds260.
July 20, 2019 at 23:49
Yes, as long as they can show the relationship was genuine.
July 21, 2019 at 09:58
Hellow brit thanks for your genuine suggestions. Here i still have some questions to ask hope you will answer them just as before.
1)My CN is AS72** from Nepal do i have any chance for 2Nl? I am asking this because i am very confused due to country specific rule.
2) I dindnt got any mails from kkc for further documents is this late?
3)I have unlocked my Ds 260 and got a confirmation page with different date of submission than previous one so i wonder which page confirmation page should i be taking with me to intervier previous one or this one. (If i have a change)
July 21, 2019 at 14:51
WHAT YEAR??????
July 20, 2019 at 23:09
I AM IN AFRICA PRECISELY IN DRC
July 21, 2019 at 05:49
Hello BritSimon,
My Sister has been selected for the current DV2019, she is married and the got 3 kids. Their interview was the last Tuesday the 16th of this month. But the counselor did not give them the visa, saying that , in their file, instead of having her husband’s photo, it is my sister’s photo. That means, my sister’s photo is repeated on her husband’s original file, when they played the DV last year.
But my sister does not believe that they could have made such mistake. Also, the counselor has jut say that, without showing them the screen, so that that they can be sure.
They are in Africa, and have spent all their money to get the process done. They are think to appeal, or ask for another interview, because if this situation remains unchanged, is gonna be a catastrophe for them.
Now these are my two questions:
1. Can a mistake on a beneficiary’s file affect the applicant and leads to a refusal of visa for everybody?
2. Are they able to ask for another interview? so that they may be able to explain well the case, ask for maybe a favor, ask the counselor to show them the husband’s file that they have, to see if they have really made that mistake?
Thank you
July 21, 2019 at 14:42
1. This mistake certainly can because whoever did your sisters entry made the mistake. The COs don’t just make up reasons like this. It is clear the photo is wrong.
2. There is no appeal process, and in any case, the photo was wrong. The CO certainly doesn’t have to show the original entry. Sadly, I think your sister has to accept the decision.
July 22, 2019 at 10:37
Thank you for your response. It is really Sad.
But it is not wrong on the principal applicant. why the do consider a mistake on a beneficiary to conclude negatively for everybody? Guest what, the CO still keep her high school diploma. She said they gonna call her late to pick it up, but they returned her all the remain documents, and give her the yellow paper of refusal visa.
July 22, 2019 at 13:41
Again. The mistake is on HER OWN entry. She is responsible.
July 21, 2019 at 12:18
Hello Brit,
A question regarding education and previous work information in DS-260, there is a start and end date, i did not mention the day in these dates as i don’t remember specifically the day i joined or i left.
Is it ok?
Thanks in advance
July 21, 2019 at 14:58
Yes
July 21, 2019 at 12:59
Hello BritSimon,
I am from Somali, a country President Trump included in the latest travel ban. I win the green card lottery dv2020, can I get an immigrant visa? Thank you Sir.
July 21, 2019 at 15:01
Only if you have some reason to be protected from the ban. The most likely reason is that you already live in the USA OR you have a second citizenship of a non banned country.
July 21, 2019 at 13:33
Hello. I have a question
My wife is the principal winner. Can jewelry (gold) she has considered as asset or property to show at embassy? Because it can be eaaily sold in jewelry store i lf we gt the visa. She has gold as a wedding gift from her family.
If yes, how do we prove the amount of gold at the interview?
July 21, 2019 at 15:02
No.
July 21, 2019 at 15:16
Dear brit,
Do u think it would be wise for people born in travel banned countries to stop entering the DV lottery as to give people from other countries more chance of winning?
July 21, 2019 at 15:30
No.
July 21, 2019 at 15:59
But most of em wouldnt even get a chance of interview right? Isnt that a waste of possible visa issued to people from other countries?
July 21, 2019 at 16:27
Again no.
It doesn’t affect anyone else.
July 21, 2019 at 15:40

Get an I-134 plus W2/1040, Payslips and photo IS for someone in the USA willing to support you.

2. New one.
3. It’s fine. Be patient.
July 21, 2019 at 15:50

Sorry but I just read that gold, car, apartmet are not assets to be presented in front of an officer. Then what assets are assets to be presented to them at consulate? Please tell me with examples cos I was hoping with my husband to bring cash, car’s certificate, apartment, etc.
Thanks
July 21, 2019 at 16:26
Bank statements showing savings.
July 21, 2019 at 23:01
Hello Brit, i Think you’re doing a tremendous job here , i got my visa a month a go thanks to you and others . But am here now because someone who is a 2020 lottery winner made a mistake in her Ds 260 , she is yet to send it but the one who was filling her form thought she had a child so he added a child as derivative and now we can’t to seem remove him from the ds 260 , thanks in advance for your help
July 22, 2019 at 05:46
Once a derivative is added it cannot be removed.
July 22, 2019 at 09:27
What do you propose as a solution , can she validate the ds 260 and then ask kcc to remove thee derivative
July 22, 2019 at 13:39
Again? The derivatives cannot be removed. So you simply don’t submit them when submitting the other forms.
July 22, 2019 at 00:55
Hi Brit,
Thanks again for your very helpful service.
I recently enquired about health insurance to the company you recommended on here (I also mentioned that I found out about them through you). After exploring a range of options they informed me that I was basically ineligible for any of their plans. The initial plans (that sounded great and I was originally told I was eligible for) were later found not to be available for Australians. The other recommended plans I also wasn’t eligible for as I have already initiated my LPR status and now plan to return later this year for good.
My question is, do you know of any other new immigrant health insurance leads I could explore? All I am after is a basic level of cover (emergency, hospital and ambulance) that won’t send me bankrupt if something happens.
Thanks Brit,

Your not being able to use a plan sounds bizarre, but anyway if you are coming back for good get an ACA plan through healthcare.gov.

They recommended I use either the ‘Diplomat America’ or ‘Inbound Immigrant’ and then informed me that they are restricted for Australian citizens. Apparently all the other plans are for GC holders ‘that live outside the US’. A shame as they seemed like great coverage, anyway thank you!

Hi Brit,
I have a quick question about DS-260 form.
In the education section, it asks for level of education/degree. Among choices are : university degree and advanced degree. I was wondering if master and doctorate degrees are considered as university degrees or advanced degrees.
Thanks

I would have thought someone with a masters and doctorate could figure that out or use google….
ADvanced.

Has anyone who is in AS region submitted document?
July 22, 2019 at 03:23
Is it okay to bring to the interview a different photo than the one I used for application? I had long hair back then and now I cut it short…
July 22, 2019 at 05:50
Yes

Hi Brit,
1.What they meant from Social media handler? Direct link to the account or Username?
2.I don’t use some of my social media accounts and not remember the username/handler. Is it OK to skip them?
3. For the last 5 years, I was living at my home on weekends and a boarding place on weekdays. Do I need to mention the addresses of these two places. if yes how to mention the duration? Is it Ok to add two places with same time period?
July 22, 2019 at 13:34
1. Username.
2. Try and remember.
3. No need to mention the boarding address.

Hi Simon! I have a question about the ceac website. I have been trying to make some corrections on our ds260, I manage to sign in but whenever I click next the page freezes and/or I get kicked out. Anyway, I can’t either revise our information or sign the form and it’s really frustrating. Have you heard from anyone complaining that the site is not working…? Stupid question but I’m still asking, can it be country specific…? (Meaning that it is working fine in one country and not really in another…?)
Thank you very much for your answer!
July 22, 2019 at 08:12
@ Julia . It is probably because of your internet connection , or that you spend a few minutes inactive on one page . Not a serious issue . To help yourself from starting from the first page , over and over again , try to save any page you completed before going to the other one . In this case even if the page freezes or if you are kicked out off the site , you will continue from the last page you saved .
July 22, 2019 at 10:52
Thank you for the response! I am still a bit worried, even if I scroll down fast (so no inactivity) and click either save or next nothing happens ? we have tried using different networks and the result is the same. Will try again in a couple of days at my mother’s house but I’m getting suspicious that something else is up…
July 22, 2019 at 13:51
Nothing else is up.
July 22, 2019 at 13:35
Use a different browser and or computer.

July 22, 2019 at 13:24
Hi Simon,
My embassy asks following details under affidavit of support but i don’t properly understand what are those documents are.
You must provide one of the following documents to accompany the Affidavit of Support.
01. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) transcripts for the most recent tax year /
02. Federal Individual Income Tax returns with a copy of each and every Form W-2 and Form 1099 that relates to the petitioner’s / U.S. sponsor’s returns.
03. Obtaining Tax Transcripts You may use IRS Form 4506-T to request tax transcripts from the
IRS. https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
It does means i need to have Form I-134 filled by sponsor, W2 or 1040, Recent payslips and two photographs(2 inches x 2 inches) that’s all from sponsor?
Thanks
July 22, 2019 at 13:58
They don’t mention photos – you just made that up. But what you pasted here is all about the sponsor.
July 22, 2019 at 18:18
Hello sir greetings from Nepal
Simply I just want to know that mine friend sponsor is from Colorado so her cousin uncle is in Washington after that her uncle want her to take his older parents with her in Washington because of parents old age so that we are confusing on this matter that will it be problem to be in Washington besides of her sponsor from Colorado after she will be handling his parents with him she wants to back in Colorado having fear for lost of social security card and green card will it be problem on POE of Washington?
Should we inform them (POE) for this sir ?? What will be the best and safe decision for that sir help needed sir
Thanks In an advance
July 22, 2019 at 19:19
You really need to be more clear about what you are asking.
The GC is sent to the address on the DS260. You can change that at the POE. You can live wherever you want.
July 23, 2019 at 02:52
Thank you sir besides that she will be heading towards Washington for her uncle’s parents then couple of weeks she wants to back in Colorado in that what we should we do in POE of Washington should she tell them she will be there for couple of weeks then she will move to Colorado for Gc?
July 23, 2019 at 05:15
No one cares where she goes.
July 22, 2019 at 19:21

You have to be specific about each form you want unlocked.
July 22, 2019 at 20:26
Is it nessecary to show relation ship with sponser or i384 ,w2 and welcome letter is sufficent many of people refuse because not to show relationship certificate with sponser my question is it necessary or not to show relation ship certificate in interview
July 22, 2019 at 22:48
You already know that people are sometimes refused for not having a relationship with the sponsor – so really – did you need to ask the question??
July 22, 2019 at 21:52
Dear Mr. Brit ,
Need your advice. In the DV entry while choosing the highest level of education, I choosed – Masters Degree.
I am from Russia. I have a diploma of bachelor (4 years), and of ENGINEER (5 years) from the same university. WES, as I know, evaluates the diplomas of an engineer of Russian universities usually as Masters Degree. But I have no official provement.
In DS-260, however, there is only University, Advanced and Other in the education field. What to choose now in DS-260:
1) Advanced Degree – because I specified in the initial application Masters Degree?
2) Or is it University Degree? But in this case there will be a discrepancy with the DV entry.
Maybe specify in the DS-260 for an engineering degree – Advanced Degree? So it will be connected to the DV entry, where I chose Masters Degree. Otherwise, it turns out that in the DS and the application there are different levels of education. Appreciate your help!
July 22, 2019 at 22:43
It doesn’t matter which you pick, nor whether there is a difference with the original entry.
July 23, 2019 at 00:37
Thank you for the quick response!
And what if I’m not sure, that my diploma of engineering (5 years of education) is equal to Masters degree, but it is suppose to be higher than bachelor degree (4 years) that also I have – could I choose Advanced Degree in DS?
I know that this year will be more strict processing of cases. What education level should I choose to minimize risks? Thank you in advance!
July 23, 2019 at 00:42
Again? IT DOESN’T MATTER.
July 23, 2019 at 00:48
Thank you once again!
