Hi Brit. I have a question, my brother in law was selected in DV2020, his case SA4XX, he will be vaccinated after the appointment has been assigned. What do you recommend placing on the DS260 in the question about the YES / No vaccines? Thank you very much and continue with your work
July 25, 2019 at 17:04
When is his appointment?
July 27, 2019 at 02:24
No is always the safe answer on that question.

Hi Brit
I’m DV2020 selectee. I’m from one of the banned countries, and that is my country of eligibility. I’ve got another passport of another country with the birth pIace I used when I was filling the E-DV entry form.
1. If that happens, can I continue for the process of getting a visa, or there will be some problems?
2. Should I bring the birth certificate of my banned country, although I have another citizenship?
July 27, 2019 at 02:31
Huh? You seem to be saying you have two birth certificates showing different places of birth. Is that correct?
July 25, 2019 at 16:12
Hello Brit,
I have one specific question. I was selected at DV2020. I have a girlfriend and we planned to get married. The “problem” is that she traveled 4 years ago in Iran for couple of days as a tourist. What I am wondering now, if we get married and if we get to the interview, is it a risky that we will be denied for green card because she visited Iran? Do you have any advice? What should we do, or what should I do?
July 27, 2019 at 02:52
I think you are worrying over nothing.

Hello, I am a DV winner. My sponsor lives in Colorado and I am planning to go to Washington DC. Will there be any issues/problems at POE? Should I change my address at POE? What is best to do? All advises are appreciated, Thanks.
July 27, 2019 at 02:59
No problem. Change the address at the POE.

Why are you repeating the questions under different names?
July 25, 2019 at 17:11
Hello 🙂
My case number is 2020AF9xxx. I’ve prepared my birth certificate, high school diploma, police records, and photographs.
I’ll do the medical exam after I get an appointment date.
Am I ready to submit the DS-260 form? Or do I have to prepare anything extra for the interview?

Glad for your hard work simon.
I’m living in weekends with my family in my permanent location(owned by dad) and for weekdays stay, i have rented a place with one of my friend and living in their from 5 years now for weekdays because of my job. so,
01. what would be my present address?
02. should i include rented place under previous living locations?
July 27, 2019 at 03:06
You need to decide based on what was your actual address.
July 27, 2019 at 16:23
My actual address is my home so do i need to include rented place under previous living locations? or what?
Thanks brit
July 27, 2019 at 18:31
OK – so now use some judgement to decide how to complete the form. Really – these are not trick questions.
July 25, 2019 at 18:37
Hello Simon,
The USCIS immigrant fee instruction paper that we got from the embassy has the A number and the DOS number. The DOS number for my wife is exactly the same case number 2019AF24xxx ehile on the visa on her passport 2019AF24xxx02 .
Which DOS case number should I enter when paying the one with the 02 at the end or the one on the paper I recieved from embassy. If I enter the one on the paper that means the DOS case number will be the same for me and my wife
Regards,
O.A
July 27, 2019 at 03:07
Add the 01, 02 etc.
July 25, 2019 at 23:19
Hi Simone
I am not from US but i have been there two times for a period of 3 mounts when I was a student (Work and travel program). Do I have to mention this two jobs as my work experience, because i don’t remember the name of the employer and the address of the pizza place where i worked? I have education and the jobs that i worked are not my profession.
July 27, 2019 at 03:11
Answer the questions as accurately as possible.

Records indicate you have submitted a complete and valid DS-260 application for each family member, and you have provided all required documentation to the Kentucky Consular Center.
Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing. Interviews for the DV 2020 program will begin in October 2019 and conclude on September 30, 2020. Please refer to the visa bulletin at http://www.travel.state.gov to locate the current numbers being processed. This bulletin is updated after the 15th day of each month. Hi Mr. Brit,
I am a Sri Lankan citizen and I have be selected from DV2020, My case number is 14XXX. My question is some what related to my culture so please try to understand the situation. I have got legally married in 2019 June, but in Sri Lanka we are having a traditional way of marriage. Until then we are not living together. So apparently our permanent addresses are different.
So My question is will it be an issue? will they think that we are having fake marriage for the sake of migration?
Please explain as to your knowledge. Thank you in advance.
July 27, 2019 at 03:22
If it is normal in your country the embassy should be used to that…
July 26, 2019 at 08:01

No problem.
July 26, 2019 at 08:07
Dear Brit,
After the reveal, that there are many holes between case numbers, do my chances grow, that I will receive an interview appointment by KCC next year? (case number 2020EU52xxx).
July 26, 2019 at 09:31
As Brit wrote, he wont be able to answer questions in a couple of days, but, as someone who is 2019 selectee and follower of this blog, l feel free to answer your question. Hope that Brit wont mind. 🙂 Yes, if you take into account holes, l would say that your chances are slightly increased, but there is a lot of time until then, so the best advice that someone can give you is only wait and see.
July 26, 2019 at 14:12
Thank you, dear Jonana for your time and advice. I cannot say what Brit will think regarding your responses. I also would like to hear his advice.
Dear Brit, if you read this comments, please leave your advice here, too.
Thank you all for your attention.

Greetings Simon,
What happen if a person have two physically living locations? so what should be the current physical address and previous one?
Thanks
July 27, 2019 at 03:33
Use some judgement.
July 26, 2019 at 13:37
Hi Simon! Sorry if I’m asking anything that’s already been answered – I went through FAQ, I’m just a little unclear as it sounds like procedure is a bit diff case by case – I just submitted my DS260, I’m in the 2020 draw, I’m Aussie, and my case number is: 1656
Is that a very high case number?
Also,
I haven’t received an email yet from the Kentucky ppl, but I’m starting to just gather docs I need.
1. Do I need to do anything until I receive the email? Should I hold off sending any docs off?
2. Re documents I need to provide – I have just received an AFP certificate (not fingerprint based). I lived in the US for 3 years on an E3 Visa between 2016 and 2019 and on a J1 for one year in 2011 and 2012 do I need to obtain a US Police report as well? (Just found the reciprocity instructions a bit confusing, so apologies in advance if this is obvious!!)
July 27, 2019 at 03:50
Not bad number.
1. You need to read the guide in the link above.
2. No police certs for USA.
July 26, 2019 at 15:38
Hello everybody. I am eu 41***. Completed ds260 and it’s 10 days and nothing in my inbox mail to confirm such thing. I dont know what to do. Is it about the high number i have? Thanks Britsimon as always.
July 26, 2019 at 22:08
2019 or 2020
July 27, 2019 at 03:55
Relax and be patient. You have a long time to wait.
July 27, 2019 at 16:28
Ok. I will just wait. Hopefully i will recieve an email. Thanks again
July 26, 2019 at 17:32
Hello!
Could you please clarify,
In ds-260, in the section “parents” both in child and aplicant.
In mother block “surnames at birth” do you have to put a surname of mother that she had before marriage or the surname that she had when the child is born?
July 27, 2019 at 03:58
“Maiden name”. The name she had at birth before changing through marriage or other process.
July 26, 2019 at 19:07
Hi Brit and everyone !
Thanks for a very useful website!
My questions:
1- Does embassy in Nairobi Kenya ask for affidavit of support or 1-34 forms from a US sponsor? Is there anyone who interviewed in Nairobi to share their experience please?
2- I qualify (based on income guidelines) to sponsor my brother in law (family of 3). But I usually file my tax as joint with my husband who is not willing to share our tax record. What other documents can i send to my brother in law?
Thanks.
July 27, 2019 at 04:00
1. Often.
2. W2, Payslips.
July 27, 2019 at 00:49
dear Britsimons
in 2018 i was a follower or your wonderful website. today it is a sad day for me.
my rother who is my sponsor decide to revoke my green card and or sponsor because i told him i want to go bak to my country after five years. he sais that he is disappointed he did lots of sacrifice for us to come here he paid out rent and helph us to find a job. why o told him that. he reproach me the fact i said him i did not ask him all he did. also i said to him my friend told me to come to her state but i refused. i will install in brother city.
that are the main issue with him
he give me today a paper to request me to write a declaration for embassy and uscis that before coming in us i did not have the intention to stay in usa for all my life he will write a letter of revocation to my green card
i would like to know
is it possible to revoke the green card for someone who is already in usa and have a job
how can i do if it is possible
July 27, 2019 at 04:06
He is an idiot. Tell him to mind his own business.
July 27, 2019 at 01:05

July 27, 2019 at 03:46
Hi BritSimon,
My CN is 2019AS11xxx. My daughter turned 21 in Mar 19. My interview is set in early Aug 19. At your advice, I wrote to the US embassy & they allowed me to bring her for the interview under the CSPA. At the time of the interview, she will be 20 years 10 months under the CSPA age guideline. My question is :
1) do we need to activate her visa before she turns 21 under the CSPA age or does she have the usual 6 months as everyone else for activation ?
2. On a separate matter, is a printout of my bank account statement be good as proof of sufficient funds or an official letter issued by the bank is required?
Thank you for all your advice!
July 27, 2019 at 04:02
1. It’s the interview that matters, not date of entry.
2. Statement.
July 27, 2019 at 03:56
Hi brit how r u someone’s say me in dv lottery 2021 we apply for dv lottery with passport Nomber without passport Nomber we cannot apply for dv lottery is it really are not
July 27, 2019 at 04:03
Yes.
July 27, 2019 at 04:05
Hi Brit
Good morning and warm greetings
I’m 2020 dv winner. I got mail to submit documents on July 25. During screening of my document I found some miss match i.e,
1) In birth certificate of my son there is written Roni shrestha Mahat. Mahat is my husband cast which is not include in my other documents but I have marriage certificate. In English translated of that birth certificate there is written only Roni shrestha.
My question is
1) It will creat any problem or not?
2) If yes then what will be the solution?
July 27, 2019 at 04:10
No problem.
July 27, 2019 at 10:49
well, Sir i didnt see website embassy says that original documents should not be laminated.. so i guess it’s okay?
Jakarta embassy.
July 27, 2019 at 10:55
Hi Birit
One more question please,in DS260 in the address where you intend to leave when reach US ,this is the Sponsor address or what?
July 27, 2019 at 14:11
The address where your GC will be sent.
July 27, 2019 at 20:29
Am wondering because there is other question asking if you to deliver your GC in this address or other,so I guessed this is the sponsor address, that mean there is no any question for the sponsor in the Ds 260?becuase till now I don’t have sponsor and I need to submit my form, itis ok?
July 27, 2019 at 20:49
You needa US address. As for a sponsor, you can deal with that later.
July 27, 2019 at 11:42
Can I travel (multiple enter to the US) with my unexpired DV Visa?
July 27, 2019 at 13:48
I meant, until getting my Green Card can I fly back to my country and come back before the date of DV visa expiration?
July 27, 2019 at 14:13
During the first entry the visa will be “endorsed” so that you can use it for entries for up to 12 months after that first entry. By then you should have the GC itself.
July 27, 2019 at 14:53
Hi BritSimon,
Is there any official sources on the website travel.state.gov where I can find reply to my question? If you know, can you please share the link?
Thank you
July 27, 2019 at 14:58
I just told you the exact answer.
July 27, 2019 at 13:47
Hello Mr. Brit!
I’m DV2020 00044*** winner.
Currently me and my husband live in a China. He has been living here for 12 years, however I found out that we can only get his police clearance for the last 5 years.
Do you thing this can cause any problems during the interview?
PS. As for me (principle) it’s ok, I can show police clearance for myself for all the periods of my stay in China (1 year).
Thanks for all your efforts, Mr. Brit
Best regards
Jami
July 27, 2019 at 13:56
Sorry EU region
July 27, 2019 at 14:14
I don’t think that would be a problem, although I have not encountered that situation previously.
July 27, 2019 at 15:54
Hello,
Ok questions after arriving in the US. Simon and those who had won the GC please give your opinion/experience on this.
I have heard and read that new immigrants/GC winner cant even rent apt/loan cars/ even get a mobile number because we dont have CREDIT POINTS/HISTORY.
Theres a trick, as if you dont have credit points you can’t open/get a credit card, and if you dont have a credit card you can’t build any credit points.
So what do we do? what have you done guys? ( without taking in consideration the help of others because cant lay for months on others)
July 27, 2019 at 18:28
You can get a secured credit card quite quickly.
You get a prepaid phone SIM.
Apartments are OK – you just have to put down a decent deposit (expect to pay up 3 months rent in advance as deposit, first month rent and so on).
July 27, 2019 at 20:46
Opening a bank account is very easy, and they will give you a debit card. You don’t need credit score to rent an apartment, but you will need to show proof of income or a bank statement showing that you have enough money to pay. Also, as Brit says, you can always offer to pay a bigger deposit.
The bank will ask you for a proof of address before opening the account. I was staying in an Airbnb apartment when opened mine. What I did was asking someone to send me a letter to that address, and then show the letter to the banker.
July 27, 2019 at 16:20
hi brid can i unlock my DS 260 form? because i want to make changes in my form would they allow to make changes?
July 27, 2019 at 18:30
Yes
July 27, 2019 at 19:00
Hi, when someone is on AP does the supervisor always involved in the final decision or is it only the CO who did the interview ?
July 27, 2019 at 19:41
CO, supervisor and possibly other agencies depending on the reason for AP.
July 27, 2019 at 20:54
Hi simon
i’m a DV2020 applicant , i emailed KCC to change my interview location for some reasons , they told me that your interview location has been changed , the new interview location will not appear in my Ds-260 ,but will be used by KCC for scheduling purposes . do you think the interview location will be correct as i want ?
thanks in advance
July 27, 2019 at 21:01
Do you think they are lying to you?
July 27, 2019 at 21:20
i got it
July 27, 2019 at 21:19
i got it
July 27, 2019 at 22:30
Hi Sir, excuse me I repeated this question in several comments but still i don’t get the answer. My question is; As a citizen in one of the banned countries, does it matter if i have an other citizenship but the birth place is different. Thanks BritSimon.
July 28, 2019 at 03:57
I think you asked under another username, and I answered. You seem to be saying you have paperwork with a different place of birth – which would OBVIOUSLY be suspicious. So – although having a second citizenship could be helpful to overcome the ban, it will NOT help if the paperwork shows you have lied to obtain these documents.
July 28, 2019 at 00:45
Hello. I few questions about Lottery green card. I live in the Uk (born in Romania) and I am studying A levels as a private candidate. On their website say ‘We don’t accept correspondence programs as qualfications’. Does it include homeschooling/private candidates? Do I have to explain at the embassy where I went to school or anything like that? On GCSE/A levels certifications don’t say where you went/go to school.
Thank You!
July 28, 2019 at 03:59
They want a “formal course of education”. Generally speaking – attending school.
July 28, 2019 at 01:27
Hi Brit, my case number is 2020AF 1***. Am I likely to be interview this year. Thanks
July 28, 2019 at 05:39
This question shows you have not read anything here. Please do so to avoid unnecessary questions.
July 28, 2019 at 02:10

July 28, 2019 at 02:27
Glad for your hard work mr. simon.
Currently i’m holding my job designation as technical lead engineer and category was assistant manger. so what should be job title under present work information in ds260?
July 28, 2019 at 05:37
Just make a choice that sounds right. It is not important.
July 28, 2019 at 04:16

July 28, 2019 at 05:34

July 28, 2019 at 06:23
Hi Mr.Brit. In interview will be inough only my support documents,or i will show the bank documents. My lower says thats inough supporting documents, but i am worried?
July 28, 2019 at 15:22
Take as much as you can to the interview. Be OVER prepared.
July 28, 2019 at 09:31
Hello Simon, hope this meets u in good health. I got my 2nl last month for an August interview, I have already registered the appointment on the embassy’s website as instructed. However it turns out that date is not very favourable to me and derivatives, I’m wondering if its possible to postpone an appointment after registering it on the embassy’s website? If so I want to delay it for just about a week so that my interview still happens in the same month. What is your advice on this. Thanks in advance for ur prompt response
July 28, 2019 at 15:25
This isn’t like hairdressers appointment. Changing the appointment will introduce risk – so I recommend you keep the appointment you have.
July 28, 2019 at 09:39
Hi Brits,
I have read that people here book appointment with embassy for interview. My 2NL have actually sent me a date and time for interview. So my understanding is some embassies ask you to book and for few KCC Sends date n time.
July 28, 2019 at 15:26
Incorrect. KCC send ALL the appointments. Some embassies (many) ask people to REGISTER their appointments with a courier service, but the appointment is the one KCC set up.
July 28, 2019 at 09:56
Hi Brit
26 on July my case status changed from AP to ISSUED
01 ISSUED
02 ISSUED
03 ISSUED
04 AP
Is that because CEAC update to AP
the finalization is processing or something else
Thank you
July 28, 2019 at 15:27
Exercise some patience.
