Is it final, that passport number will be used for DV 2021 before submission?
August 6, 2019 at 20:03
We won’t know for sure until we see the DV2021 instructions.
August 6, 2019 at 20:26
Hi Brit, thanks for your support. I’m flying to USA to activate my GC next week and I need to update my address before that, but I’m having problems with my USCIS account. Will I be able to do it at the airport?
August 6, 2019 at 20:36
You should do that at the POE – yes.
August 6, 2019 at 20:56
Hi brit, thank you for everything you do.I want to know if I have problems with my very long course at the university (7 years to have bachelor degree) and now I am still a student at the master 1. my age is 28 and i have never worked .and in the ds260 i answer that i want to work engeneering.????
August 6, 2019 at 22:00
Education requirements can be met by High School education (i.e. before the bachelors). However your slow education and lack of work experience may create concerns about whether you can succeed in the USA without becoming a public charge.
August 6, 2019 at 23:35
So what do toi advise me ?unlock m’y ds 260 and choose other occupation??

August 7, 2019 at 03:13
Hi Brit, Thanks for you support. I’m filling DS260 and having following questions.
1) What does mean by “Did this job require at least 2 years of training or experience?”. I started the career as a software engineer and the position requested a degree at that time. Does that mean my degree can consider as 2 years of training?
2) When we adding a address to present or previous addresses, does it need any address proofs like uility bills or government address confirmation letter?
Thanks

August 7, 2019 at 04:38
1. Just answer yes.
2. No
August 7, 2019 at 03:22
Hi All, Expecting an answer from Sri Lankans.
When we are getting police reports, are they requested all the addresses where we had live during the past period of time and do they check the records from the police stations where those addresses belong?
I’m asking that I have lived several temporary places and didn’t have any proofs to prove that I was lived there.
August 7, 2019 at 03:44
hi Yasa89
I also faced same issue because I have added different address for my marriage certificate.
can you create account https://forums.immigration.com/threads/dv-2020-all-selectees.340760/ then I will pm. I also asked same question.

August 7, 2019 at 08:36
HI Brit,
I’m organising my trip to the United States and wish to ask one question regarding issuance of my green card:
I should change the address at POA and I’m wondering whether to pay the tax of 220$ now as it is required in my visa instructions or first to change the address at the border and then to pay?
My idea is to avoid any confusions when USCIS starts issuing the document.
Thank you and best regards
August 7, 2019 at 14:05
You should change the address at the POE. Whether you pay now or after entry doesn’t affect that.
August 7, 2019 at 07:49
Usually you have to mention the address/locations where you have lived. And for some cases, relevent police stations where belongs to the address mentioned will check your records.
August 7, 2019 at 05:24
Hi Brit,
I would highly appreciate your response to this query as I am already scheduled for interview in September.
I am a DV 2019 selectee. At the time I played the DV I was single, and was single up to the time I submitted my DS-260 form in June of 2018.
On December 15, 2018, I got married to my fiancee who came from the USA, and she returned to the US in January 2019.
1. With this situation, if I tell the counselor that I got married after my process(which is true), will it prevent me from getting visa?
2. If no, what documents do I need to take to my visa interview to substantiate my statement?
Really need your expert opinion on this sir, cuz I’m getting to many advices that are causing me sleepless nights.
August 7, 2019 at 13:54
1. You must tell the truth. You should have changed your marital status in the DS260 once you were married. Make certain you bring this up in the interview, if not by email prior to the interview.
2. Marriage cert and so on.
August 7, 2019 at 17:10
Thanks for your timely response Brit.
If you got my point sir, I submitted the DS-260 form almost 6 months before my wedding. And sincerely, I never thought my case would have reached this far because of how high my case number was(AF46×××), so my fiancee and I decided to continue our wedding plan. If we anticipated this, we would have put our wedding on hold until after my process.
However, I prefer to say the true no matter the outcome on the day of my interview. And thanks for the advise.
* I am considering writing before my interview, who should I write? KCC or the embassy?
Thanks sir as I await your response to my last query.
August 8, 2019 at 00:34
The embassy.
August 8, 2019 at 05:32
Thanks Brit, I highly appreciate how generous you are.
August 7, 2019 at 08:30
Hello, I was selected for the DV 2019, KCC sent me an email just 2 weeks ago to ask for my scanned documents which i sent. I have not yet been scheduled for the interview. What sould I do because i guess it’s getting late
August 7, 2019 at 14:04
I think (hope) you are mistaken about the lottery year. Your case number starts 2020 – right? If it starts with 2019, you are too late, and KCC would NOT have asked for your documents only two weeks ago.
If you are 2020 – then no problem, you have not missed your chance.
August 7, 2019 at 09:16
Hi Brit,
My case nº AF202023***
Is it the right time to submit my DS-260?
Acording to your video and predictions my number can go current arround December/January.
Do you still believe in your predictions for DV2020?
Thanks.
August 7, 2019 at 14:11
Nothing has changed to affect the predictions – but you should understand that they are just for guidance – predictions are NEVER exact, and sometimes not close at all.
August 7, 2019 at 16:36
Thanks for your feedback! But can i submit my DS-260 or should i wait ?
August 7, 2019 at 17:08
No need to wait.
August 7, 2019 at 09:17

August 7, 2019 at 14:11

2. It varies.
August 7, 2019 at 10:20
Mr.Brit..
My AP just updated now 7 august. still AP. I sent my documents ( proof of relationship ) this morning 7 august.

No pattern.

Hi Simon,
While reviewing the CEAC data analysis i noticed that in years like 2017 and 2019 (though procces isnt finished yet) the maximun CN processed for EU region is like 30,000-32,000. And this happens in underselected years which even go current. So does this means that even if the year is underselcted and goes current case numbers higher than 40,000 arent processed ? Because at the data i didnt saw any number higher than this. Please tell me if i got it wrong.
Thanks
August 7, 2019 at 14:18
Numbers are different in each year. The numbers allocated to selectees in DV2020 are unusually high compared to the last few years. So – don’t overthink previous years.
August 7, 2019 at 11:58
Hi Simon namaste from Nepal. should I have to inform KCC about the details of my Payoneer account that my brother has used for operating a site using my passport number? Actually I don’t use it but he misued it to generate income from a Porn site. I have already filled my DS 260
August 7, 2019 at 14:21
Payoneer is not social media.
August 7, 2019 at 12:15
Hello Simon,
My wife received the email with instructions to upload scanned documents, however, our marriage certificate was not listed as required. Do you know if the marriage certificate is usually uploaded in advance, or is it only required in person on the day of the interview?
Thanks!

August 7, 2019 at 14:49
Hi
Simon
I came across a document today, in my DS260 I filled a wrong date when I started my first job, note that I have once been in the embassy for B2 visa which I was denied and on the form at that time is a different date. What do I do 2020AF38××
August 10, 2019 at 02:32
You didn’t answer reply me Simon
August 10, 2019 at 14:51
It’s trivial. No need to do anything.
August 7, 2019 at 15:19
Hi Brit,
I had my initial appointment in july and I just had a follow up interview. But the officer says my visa is essentially aproved but visas are issued monthly and i had one avalaible in july but now i have to wait see if theres a number available in August

August 7, 2019 at 16:59
Yes. Totally normal. The embassy have to request a visa from KCC. But there are plenty available.
August 7, 2019 at 15:24
hi, I’m Algerian I live in Russia, I’m here like student, a got Dv lottery 2019, and I passed my interview in Moscow in June 04th 2019, but I have not the medical results because they demand to do tuberculosis test and the results will after 2 months, the consul said that when they got the results They sent me an email, but until now I haven’t a response, the results were released on 23/07/2019, my status visa is Administrative processing, just there is an error on my father’s give name, I don’t know if this erroraffec the visa or not?
thank you.
August 7, 2019 at 17:03
The name should not be a problem. Contact the embassy.
August 7, 2019 at 20:19
I should they tal about the error, or juste for asking about my case?, and my Russian visa expire in 30 /08/2019.
August 8, 2019 at 00:46
If asked, answer truthfully.
August 8, 2019 at 04:00
ok, thank you for your halping.
August 10, 2019 at 23:57
I have contacted the embassy for asking about my case so they told me to send them the scan of my Russian Master degree, and they not asked me about the error.
August 7, 2019 at 17:23
Dear Brit,
I hope you are well. I have an inquiry that i think you could solve it . I went for the interview on july 11th and the case went into administrative processing cz the consular officer wanted to check into my education credentials and working experience as it was foreign credentials .
Since then i had not heard from the embassy and the case is still in AP. Furthermore i have learnt the case should be solved within 60 days from the interview date.
Not that 55 days have passed, can it be a positive response as my instinct says if they had to refuse they would have done it prior. I may be wrong pls advice . From your past experience how has the trend been for AP.
Regards,
Shad
August 8, 2019 at 00:36
The 60 days is not a deadline – it could easily go past that.
I cannot predict the outcome.
August 10, 2019 at 15:07
Hi
I have the same issu my interview was in julay 29 but the embassy told my that they will call me wihile all my documents is them. What i am worring is can they call me before 30 september?if its going to be 60 days from interview it will be on october so ???? Say somthing for me i am worried please
August 10, 2019 at 15:13
Same answer as I previously gave the other poster.
August 7, 2019 at 18:49
Hello Simon sir .thanks for your great work .I have 3 questions :
1:I am a 2020 dv winner with AS79xx .now I want to marry and my marital status in entry form and ds 260 that I have already submitted is single .if I want to add my wife in ds 260 does it cause to miss my chance of getting interview? . or my case will be delayed ? .suppose my interview is in May 2020 after adding the spouse what will happen with my case ? .is it a good option for this case No to add a spouse?
2:if I just unlock in oct 2020 to add my new passport No in ds 260 does it delay my interview ?.
3:I have added my two months work experience with an us based international NGO .is it good or not to add such short period of work experience in ds 260 ?
thanks
August 8, 2019 at 00:40
When you number your questions and then squeeze multiple questions under each number – how can I answer that easily???
1. You can marry. Sooner rather than later, then read the FAQ on how to add your spouse.
2. Read the FAQ.
3. It’s not a question of is it good or not – it’s just a matter of telling the truth.
August 7, 2019 at 19:37
You are right dear Brit I ask the embassy yesterday they are reason was in original entry birthdate she ask me about birthdate in interview but I answered the truth in the original entry the birthdate was filing by Ethiopian calendar 29 July 1990 because everybody says me it’s ok 05 August 1998 Gc mean 29 July 1990 in Ethiopian calendar that was the mistake but I fix it when I fill ds 260 In Gc i make it 05 august 1998 Gc it wasn’t for fraud.
The reason was I get my passport after I saw my status as I’m selected I wasn’t have when I fill the original entry.
August 7, 2019 at 20:03
Hi Brit,
I hope you are doing well. I am a DV 2020 winner, and I am from Pakistan. I had a name issue on my passport, i.e., I did not have a surname on my passport when I applied for the DV. Before filling the DS-260 I requested modification of my passport, and I got my new passport with the name modification which has a new number ( just the last digit is increased). I have the following questions regarding this issue:
1. Should I write my updated name in the name section of DS-260 and the old name in the other names section.
2. If I am filling the DS-260 with my new passport, can this be a reason for rejection since the passport number has changed.
August 8, 2019 at 00:44
1. Yes
2. Why? When did they have the old passport details?
August 7, 2019 at 21:47
Hi simon,
I watched your video. And my question is to know when do u think the second draw for dv 2020 is going to be plz? Thank you
August 8, 2019 at 00:46
Check in October.
August 9, 2019 at 22:42
Ok thank you
August 7, 2019 at 22:21
Hello Brit.
In ds 260, in the section of social networks, I indicated only 2 which I regularly use, but then I remembered that in March of this year I opened facebook but used it just a couple of times I did not like it and I deleted it but the other day I again felt facebook and I got busy I downloaded it and went there and my old page and suddenly I realized that I forgot to specify it in my ds-260.
Question: will there be problems because of this?
Help please advice I’m desperate for earlier thanks for the answer
August 8, 2019 at 00:47
I doubt it, but I don’t know for sure.
August 8, 2019 at 00:47
Hi Brit, thanks for all that you do for this blog! My question is , to accompany form i34 from the sponsor, is state tax records sufficient or does it have to be federal?
Thanks
August 8, 2019 at 00:59
Fed
August 8, 2019 at 02:22
Hello brits greeting,
How many years tax file we need to get from sponsor?
August 8, 2019 at 04:54

August 8, 2019 at 05:59
That mean last one year?
August 8, 2019 at 08:36
Yes. latest year

Hello Brit
I received the DV Lottery in 2000 and Lived and Worked in USA happily for many years.
I had a family illness arise in Australia and had to return and been unable to return to continue my residence in USA and after 14years the PR expires as your aware.
I devastated I want to live in the US permanently.
What is your advise ? I really need help !
August 8, 2019 at 04:55
You could apply for the next lottery.
August 8, 2019 at 05:27
Dear Brit
We already requested kcc to unlock DS260 yesterday.
Another question bothering us is that he joined university to study computer science but after one year he changed to engineering department and graduated in engineering after 5-years of study. On Ds260 he mentioned only engineering(Bsc) on the course of study. Do you think he should mention computer science as course of study for one year before engineering? but he doesn’t have any certificate or diploma to show except for some courses (subjects) listed on the transcript.
August 8, 2019 at 20:08
No need to overthink this. No change needed.
August 8, 2019 at 05:41
Hello BritSimon, Your effort is much appreciated. I’m a DV 2020 Selectee with case number in the DV2020AF0000’s. I have been living and working in a foreign country for 9 years . I have 2019 Police Certificates for where I live . Do also I need Police certificate from my Country of Origin ? If yes does it need to have 1 year validity or it can be any year. Thanks
August 8, 2019 at 20:09
It depends on the age when you left that country – but please read the instructions to properly understand this…
August 8, 2019 at 06:51
One question Sir…
If for example I’m EU2020xxx332xx (33k) and you predict that I’ll have interview in April, what if I fill DS-260 in August 2019? They won’t call me for interview before my number is ready right? It doesn’t matter when I’ve sent DS260?
August 8, 2019 at 20:16
Correct. Filing your DS260 early does not mean getting an interview before your number is ready.
August 8, 2019 at 10:54
Dear britsimon
I received my passport today with the printed and stamped diversity visa along with the sealed packet but I noticed immediately that the birthplace mentioned on the visa was UAE which is correct but the nationality mentioned was also UAE whereas I have a Pakistani passport so I wrote down an application on a paper and returned the passport along with the documents to the embassy for correction just to avoid any hassle at the port of entry.
My question is does the embassy consider me a UAE national ( as I was born there and the country of changeability ) or it was a mistake on their side ?
August 8, 2019 at 12:17
I will have the medical exam next week in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
I’ve recently smoked marijuana (the use is legal here) and I’d like to know if it might be a problem with the application since blood test is involved during the medical exam.
Does anyone know about this topic? Thanks
August 8, 2019 at 20:19
Contact the embassy and check.
August 10, 2019 at 15:48
Yes I have already sent the passport to the embassy and it’s going to take at least a week before I get any answer but now I’m confused whether it was a printing error or they really consider me a UAE national as I was born there. It was an awful feeling sending my passport and sealed packet back.
What’s the worst that could happen ?
August 10, 2019 at 18:11
Relax.

Some people have been questioned about drug use, and a Physician/CO could be concerned about a “habitual” drug user.
August 8, 2019 at 13:45
Hi brit thank you for you effort.
I have a question.
According to new rules of DVlottery Entry. I have a Nstional ID but i don’t have a Passport so in october can i apply
With my National ID. Thank you.
August 8, 2019 at 20:24
If the new rule is implemented, NO.
August 8, 2019 at 14:33
Hi,
Just received email from KCC to submit scanned documents.
Is it possible to send the documents, then to receive interview date, and after that to get married (after having received the interview date)? What would happen then?
August 8, 2019 at 20:27
That is introducing a silly risk. Far better to marry, update the DS260 and then submit documents for both.
August 8, 2019 at 17:02
Hi Britsimon
Today I received email for collection of visa from US embassy, My questions are:
1- Can my husband collect my family’s passports/visas from Us embassy alone? (I am principle case)
2- My address is virginia in DS260, but I want to go to georgia, can I do not inform officer at the airport and leave to submit my Green card to address which I provide in DS260( virginia), and I go to georgia , my friend will aware me when they got my green card?
Thanks in Advance
August 8, 2019 at 20:30
1. Check with the embassy.
2. Yes – you must change your address at the immigration in the airport.
August 9, 2019 at 03:06
Hello Mr.Britsimon
I am a selectee from DV2020AS25xxx.
I am trying to fill DS 260, one question is as following:
The “Other Names Used” in Personal Information of DS 260, I have an English name be used by my friends and colleague, and never used in any formal documents. But it had been shown on my passport as an “ALSO KNOWN AS” name.
Do I need to fill the English name at the “Other Names Used”?
Thank you very much for your time.
August 9, 2019 at 04:20
Yes
August 9, 2019 at 05:10
Hello brit, what documents are kept in the embassy after successful interview ?
August 9, 2019 at 05:45
They keep the documents you present – that is why you give them photocopies.
August 9, 2019 at 06:17
Hi Brit!
I really appreciate your responses. I got help from you in 2016 when I won the lottery. I’m living in the US and going to sponsor my wife. I have a question about filling I-130. I will be appreciated if you can help me with this. I’m sorry if this question is irrelevant for you. There is a question place of admission and date in I-130. I came to USA through Abu Dhabi to Chicago. Usa has a port of entry in Abu Dhabi where I handed over my immigration package. My passport has an endorsement as admitted in Abu Dhabi. Do I have to mention my place of admission as Abu Dhabi or Chicago?
Thanks in advance
Best Regards,
Aings
August 9, 2019 at 14:44
Doesn’t matter. Pick.
August 9, 2019 at 07:57
Hi Simon,
I am 2020 DV selectee from AS region and my case number is in 12XXX range. my happiness seems to have short lived as i just stumbled upon a question of failing in one of the subjects in secondary education leading to denial of the visa. In my case i did well in all the other subjects except for math where i manage to score only 25 but i was awarded a pass certificate and further completed a 3 years bachelors in computer application form a reputed university in India. Do you think i have a chance at all for this visa ?
August 9, 2019 at 14:47
I cannot predict the COs decision with certainty.
August 9, 2019 at 11:33
When registering in Lottery last October, the data of the name Amr Mohamed Abdullah was recorded. I registered the name in the DS 260 from the passport Amr Mohamed Masil Abdullah. Do I have to write the name registered in the application in the field of other names
August 9, 2019 at 14:50
Yes – do that.
August 9, 2019 at 15:31
Is it very necessary for me to reopen the DS 260 even though I closed it off 20/6/2019
August 9, 2019 at 14:11
Hello brit, Do you return us our sponsor documents ( I- 134 and IRS tax transcript ) when we collect our passport with visa ?
August 9, 2019 at 14:59
No

Hi Brit
How useful is Welcome Letter from the sponsor? Or is this even necessary?

Dear simon
I am the principal Applicant and on the summary information page they havent mentioned the full name of my spouse(actually one part of the the full name is missing) but we have mentioned the full name as showing on the passport on her DS 260 form. And she had mentioned her personal email address on her DS form. Will these 2 matters be a issue..
Thanks for your time…

DearSimon
Could you please give me some idea regarding my case

If there is a name part missing, it’s because you missed it.
This is about a derivative, so it isn’t a big deal.

Hello,
Embarrasing question, but do not want to make a mistake.
So after Diversity Visa interview at the Embassy whitch been successfull the courier delivered one sealed envelope with my passport in it (you can fell that there is a passport inside). But on that envelope it says “customs inspection please open here”. My question- can I open that envelope to see how long my visa is valid for? Or should I keep that closed and just go to the US with that unopened envelope?

The passport is normally outside the envelope that must remain sealed.

Hi Brit,
My case number is 2020EU00029***. I Already submited ds260 form few weeks ago.I marked in DS260 form that “I am in the United States and want to adjust status without leaving the United States, Send my case to USCIS” ( I am here on J1 visa, but I have to come back to my country in January2020). I wrote to KCC and asked them if they could unlock my DS260 form and they did it today, but still I can’t change interview location for KP. This first page “getting started” is blocked. I am not able to change there anything. Rest form is ok, I can change name, address but not Interview location :(. Is it possible to change it in different way ? I have to have interview in my country. Thank you very much in advance !

After you resubmit it, email KCC to make sure they understand you will be processing in your home country – they will make the change.

Hello Brit,
Thank you so much for your effort bulding this informative website. I have receive back my passport today with temporary visa and a sealed envelope. My temporary visa exp is dec 2019. I would like like to know about the final day of 30 sept, does that date is for the issuance of the green card or the temporary visa? Because I plan to enter US in Nov. If the date of 30 sep is for the green card, then it means I must enter the US at least a month before 30 sep to make sure my green card get issued.
Thanks again for the very helpful website.
