Hello Dear simon;
My case number is 2019AS12*** , from Afghanistan, my interview is scheduled for 18th august, but just today i noticed that one of the requirements for interview is “police clearance from any country which you have lived more than one year” i have lived in india for 2 years (third country). so i need police clearance from india,,,, but my time is very less till the interview and i can not get it done in this few days:
1- what are the possibilities in this case ? Will i go to administrative processing till i can prepare the police clearance form or there are chances to be rejected for this reason?
2- in case if they put me on administrative processing and the process get long time , does it mean my case will be automatically cancelled by 30th september 2019 (as the fiscal year ends) or no my case will still be continued till i get my document prepared (even after september 30th)?
I would highly appreciate your kind help
August 10, 2019 at 15:08
This is an important process so you should by now have read the instructions. You clearly haven’t.
The reciprocity page for India (that you should have read) says this:
“Comments: Police certificates are only available for Indian nationals and non-Indian nationals currently living in India. Indian police certificates are not available for foreign (non-Indian) nationals applying outside India.
“
August 12, 2019 at 10:10
thanks a lot, but does this mean i am waived to provide a police clearance from india ??? actually i had read “the reciprocity page for India” but i think i had misunderstood it, (or maybe that sentence is a kind of vague) the comment is telling: ” … not available for foreign (non-Indian) nationals APPLYING OUTSIDE INDIA” i was thinking maybe this sentence just simply means that i can not apply it from outside india and i should go to india to get it… will appreciate highly if you can please clarify me more about the meaning of this sentence thanks.
August 12, 2019 at 12:48
If you are non Indian and outside India you are not expected to provide it.
August 13, 2019 at 02:30
thanks alot simon, i really appreciate your kind help 🙂

Or I 134 now.
My brother cousin can send I 134 .

Hello Brit,
I am Selected for Diversity Visa Program 2019.
In February 2019 I received an email from KCC to sumbit electronic copies of the documents. I’ve sent all required documents to the [email protected] email address in March 2019. I never received any email that electronic copies of the documents I’ve sent are OK. I only received automatic reply same day that The Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) has received my email and is currently processing my documents.
Last month I called KCC and they told me that they never received my documentation and it’s too late for an interview.
I believed that everything telated with DV Program works perfect, now am really sad because I will miss opportunity to Start my life in USA because of their technical problem.
Here are details about my case:
Case Number: 2019EU00014xxx
November 2017: DV-019 Submission Confiramtion: Entry Received
May,2018: Selected for further processing in the Diversity Visa Program
June 2018: Online Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application Form(DS-260) has been submitted .
Februar,2019: Email to submit electronic copies of the documents
March 2019: I’ve sent all required documents to the [email protected] email address. Subject was my case number
March 2019: Email that The Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) has received my email and is currently processing my documents.
Unfortunately, i didn’t read this forum before and i didn’t know anything about bulletin and that my case number became current earlier this year.
I kindly ask you to help me if there is any possibility that i still schedule an interview in my European country. I’m sure that my documents are ok, subject as well, and i have proof in my email box that i sent it in March.
If not please let me know what are my chances for DV 2021,
Many thanks.
Kind regards,
Daniel
August 11, 2019 at 14:30
There is no chance for your DV2019 case. I have posted several articles and videos tp warn people about this exact scenario. Your case would have been saved if you had taken action a couple of months ago.
You have the same chance in DV2021 as anyone else in EU.
August 12, 2019 at 07:18
Hi Brit
How do I reach such videos and articles around this topic?
Thanks
August 12, 2019 at 12:35
You can use the calendar feature or the archive link (in the menu) to go back and see my posts from earlier this year. This is one such example.

Hi Brit,
I’m the winner of lottery 2019 from Iran.we got interviewed in January with case number around 2200 in Turkey (Ankara). We got administrative processing and 212(F)W.We were eligible for a waiver because of having relative and job offer. 7 month passes of our interview we sent follow up emails and they gave us automatic reply and asked us to avoid sending any other email asking for our case.
This situation caused us some troubles first is I don’t know where my daughter will go to school and my husband is teacher at university we have to know our life scheduled .They have issued Visa for people having relative and same case as us which had interview about 2,3 months ago. Would you help us having more information about our case?
I’ll respectfully want to ask you that if you can help me with answering what should we do and is there any changes in checking cases in about June till now?
Respectfully
August 11, 2019 at 14:33
Being eligible to apply for a waiver is does NOT “being eligible” for a waiver. All you can do is wait, there is no way to predict the outcome or accelerate it.
August 11, 2019 at 19:46
Thank you
August 11, 2019 at 14:41
Hi Brit,
1. One of my friend winner of dv2018 is now living in US after one of her friend sent an welcome letter not i384. Now, she earns $33K yearly. Can she sponsor me (dv2020 winner) with similar using welcome letter.
2. Another case, she is married now in US and her husband’s Visa is expiring and they’re on process for sponsoring green card for her husband. What is the possible wayout in this case. I don’t have other relatives back in US.
August 11, 2019 at 14:49
1. She would need to show a tax return for a the full year of 2018, otherwise no.
2. That’s no good as she is already a sponsor.
Find someone else.
August 11, 2019 at 15:30
Hi Brit,
In that case, can I have separate sponsor and get i134 separate party but still choose to live with these my friends ?
Means sponsor address or state is different than the choice of place to live when entered in USA.
August 11, 2019 at 16:21
Yes
August 11, 2019 at 20:46
Hello Brit, is there like a time limit for a sponsor to be allowed to sponsor someone else having be a sponsored another person? Mine had sponsered someone like 5 yrs ago in a family based case. Can he be allowed to sponser me in a DV case?
August 11, 2019 at 21:18
There is no defined limit. You can try.
August 11, 2019 at 15:16
Hi Brit,
I’m confused and hope you can help me, I already got the green card, and now I met someone and we’re planning to mary each other, I didn’t enter the US yet, so what should I do, I don’t want to wait any longer, is it possible to do something? please Help, I don’t have any clue.
Thanks
August 11, 2019 at 16:23
Technically, although it is possible to add a spouse after approval and before first entry,it is not easy, and you probably don’t have enough time since the DV2019 program ends on September 30th. So – I suggest you marry before or after you enter the USA then sponsor your spouse via an I-130 process.
August 12, 2019 at 12:38
Ok, Thanks, but what’s the process I must take if I want to take a risk now, just want to know. and if I got a denial, is it possible to try after that to spnsor via I-130 after that
August 12, 2019 at 12:56
Contact the embassy and discuss it with them.
August 11, 2019 at 20:36
Hi Brit
I hope you are ok.
1- when should i send the paper on my own if they didnt ask for it? Is this judgemental like when my CN is approaching without being asked to send it?
2-When i send the paper should i get a confirmation email that paper and ds are reviewed? If not what action should i take?
3- when someone receives an email to send documents, does this mean his/her CN are due for scheduling in the next bulletin?
4-I know someone Asia CN 8000 received the document request email , does it mean first 2020 bulletin for Asia can go up to 8000? Or even the following one?
Thanks Brit
August 11, 2019 at 21:15
1. Don’t. Just wait. They seem to be more efficient this year.
2. You can check if they are satisfied after a couple of weeks.
3. Not always, no.
4. See 3.
August 11, 2019 at 21:29

August 12, 2019 at 00:36
Hello Brit, a query, I must present a criminal record of 3 countries, one of the countries has a hard time getting them because it is through a web page that can only be accessed with that country’s IP and I don’t have anyone in that country That I can do it. Can it be a problem not to present a history of a country in which you lived? An explanatory letter of why I couldn’t get it can work?
August 12, 2019 at 05:12
Have you checked the instructions in the reciprocity page for that country?
August 12, 2019 at 01:38
Hello BritSimon,
Should the principal applicant bring to the interview the original and notarized translated copies of children’s birth certificate who will not attend the interview and will not immigrate to the US? (P.S. these children are listed in all forms and mentioned that they will not immigrate to the US.
August 12, 2019 at 05:12
Take them. Why not.
August 12, 2019 at 05:52
Do you to email those us birth certificates too?
August 12, 2019 at 12:30
No
August 12, 2019 at 14:26
Hello, I have a question, my wife is the main one, she suffers from type 2 diabetes but she has medical control and her balanced diet leads her normal life, she will need some report for the medical exam, thanks
August 12, 2019 at 18:27
That is not a concern.
August 12, 2019 at 02:14
Hi Brit,
Need quick suggestion.
I am dv2020 selectee and having issue with my wife name used in passport and academic documents.
Assume her actual
Given Name: “X”
Surname: “Y” “Z”
All of her academic documents use first/given name as “X” and surname as “Y” “Z”
But different in case of her passport where
Given Name is “X” “Y”
and
Surname is “Z”
Same is used while filling up the DV lottery form. Means CEAC name matches the passport name.
i.e. Given Name is “X” “Y” Surname is “Z”
Please note that passport includes Visa information my wife traveled previously for her 5 years studies abroad.
Now, please advise what should be done here.
1. Should we get new passport.
2. Should we continue filling up DS260 form as the information provided in current passport.
3. Will there be any issue of this sort of name mismatch in academic document and passport.
August 12, 2019 at 05:14
1. That would be idiotic.
2. Yes
3. No. Her academic info will not be needed as she is the derivative.
August 13, 2019 at 02:11
Some queries remain:
1. Do you suggest to correct name in passport ? Dept of Passport here in my country confirms that we should get new passport for correction.
2. If same name is used while filling up the form, can we amend that while filling up the DS260. Will we have any issue or provide clarification why we changed the name ?
3. Okay we entered without changing her name in passport which left name mismatch between passport and her academic document. What in future when we entered USA and he decides to continue her studies, new academic certificate will be issue based on name on passport.
4. Do you still suggest, not to correct name on passport ?
5. what will be consequences if corrections would be made ?
6. if change made, do we need to provide proof to kcc or CO?
Please advise. I am planning to submit DS260 now. Hope you understand. FYI, My CN DV2020AS6XXX
August 13, 2019 at 05:07
I already answered. You don’t seem to like my answers, so you need to use your own judgement.
August 13, 2019 at 10:48
Hi Brit,
It’s not about liking answer or not.
What I meant is, if she enters US with that mismatch passport name later she might be in difficulties as her ID would be passport itself. Her name on previous degrees would be different than the degrees she will be getting in US.
Seek your serious advise here.
August 13, 2019 at 13:54
Forget the education paperwork. Is the passport accurate or not. If it is inaccurate it can be changed.
August 12, 2019 at 02:27

August 12, 2019 at 04:38
Hello. I’m filling up the DS-260 form. In the part about the previous US visits, should I mention visit to Guam cause they are displayed in the i-94, or is not considered as a US visit, cause it is not a state and there are different visa rules for Russians?
Thank you for your help!
August 12, 2019 at 05:19
I don’t know. Use your judgement. If in doubt, list it.
August 12, 2019 at 05:09
Hi Brit,
First, I like to appreciate the good job you are doing. I am dv 2020 winner along with my family. I have my ESLCE with me. I also took 1 year vocational training from Master photography and videography training centre. Now I am self employed professional camera man ( photo and video) in my own digital studio.
1. Is my educational qualifications or work experience meet dv criteria?
2. Since I am self employed where can I get proof of my experience ?
Thanks

August 12, 2019 at 08:01
What is about “fail to include a spouce/child on the original entry” question from YouTube video top 9 facact visa denile
August 12, 2019 at 12:38
If you are married when you enter the lottery, but list yourself as single, OR you leave a child off the entry – then disqualification is certain.

Hello BritSimon, as new to this blog I’m trying to read a lot and I thank you for your effort.
I mentioned that I’m a 2020AF9xxx . So far I did not start DS 260 Form yet due to red message that other people are also getting. Question:1- Is this number low or High ,2- If it is low do you advise to start the form if the web page open or need to wait. (I do not yet understand the high- low number concept). 3- what can be the estimate interview’s expectation month.
Thanks
August 12, 2019 at 12:40
1. Low
2. You can start soon.
3. That depends when you submit your DS260 and how long processing takes.
August 12, 2019 at 21:51
Hello BrtiSimon, 2020AF9xxx I’m reading the DS260 guide help to get familiarized with the Form before I can start. I have a concern: Years ago I applied for a student Visa and was denied but they told me I can apply in the future. In my case what is your advise to the possible scenario/twist about this question ” Have you ever been refused a US. Visa , been refused admission to the US, or withdrawn your application for admission at the Port of Entry) Yes, No . Thanks
August 15, 2019 at 22:23
Hello sir, I sent a question 3 days ago and asked advice from you but did not get any answer. 2020AF9xxx .My concern: Years ago I applied for a student Visa and was denied but they told me I can apply in the future. 1) In my case what is your advise to the possible scenario/twist or outcome about this question ” Have you ever been refused a US. Visa , been refused admission to the US, or withdrawn your application for admission at the Port of Entry) Yes, No .
2) Can they deny me the DV visa because I was denied a student visa in the past? Thanks
August 16, 2019 at 03:31
1. “Yes”
2. They “can” do what they want. But unless you were denied for lying or something that should not be a problem.
August 12, 2019 at 08:59
Hi Brit , am dv 2019 selectee , I had my wife birthdate filled in the entry by typing error, I asked kcc and I was appointed for prescreening interview. I told every detail to the embassy in Ethiopia about the error, I was accepted and my locked ds 260 was opened , everything went smooth, since am from Eritrea I made my travel arrangements and lose everything I had. but on 23/07/2019 I was rejected in my interview because of that. Really unfair decision on me. is there anything I can do to make them reconsider my case?
August 12, 2019 at 12:45
There must have been more to that than you are telling me – because a simple mistake on a derivative would not cause denial on the whole case. However, there is no formal appeal process. You can ask them to reconsider, but they can decide whether or not to do so. Usually, they don’t.
August 12, 2019 at 10:40
Hi brit , something is not clear for me if you may assist me please, 2020af22***, my wife is the selectee and I and our two kids are the derivatives, does she submit her ds260 first so as to get the access to ours or how can she access our d260.
August 12, 2019 at 12:51
When she logs in to the DS260 page she should see her DS260 and each derivative (assuming the derivatives were listed as part of the original entry). She completes all the DS260s and submits at the same time.
August 12, 2019 at 14:22
Ok, after logging in there’s only one person th ats hers only, has it ever occurred that kcc could have not listed derivatives, ever come across such a case please
August 12, 2019 at 18:26
This means she did not list the derivatives in the initial entry and denial is certain.
August 13, 2019 at 08:00
Let her go alone than to add you guys and get denied
August 13, 2019 at 13:37
@Peter – that is an idiotic suggestion – that would be immigration fraud!
August 12, 2019 at 11:38
Hello brit !
I got mail from kcc to submit additional documents .
But they missed my middle name as Dear Given name and family name but my name is Given name middle name and family name .
Is there any problem ?
Is it fine ?
I have all three names (including given name middle name and family name in all my docs)
August 12, 2019 at 12:54
No problem.
August 12, 2019 at 12:58
Good news!
August 12, 2019 at 15:10
Hello, can you tell me your case number range and area, as I want to know if I am late in receiving the e-mail asking for the documents. thanks
August 12, 2019 at 12:22
Hello, I can’t find my high school diploma but I’m an university student, have completed american and my native country final exams (the ones in the end of high school) and have diplomas for those. Can I bring a university letter to my interview confirming that I study, is it equivalent to high school diploma?
August 12, 2019 at 12:55
No. Find your HS diploma.
August 12, 2019 at 12:31
Hello brit , what documents they return to us after successful interview and what documents they keep in the embassy or consulate office?
August 12, 2019 at 12:58
Stop re-asking the same question.
August 12, 2019 at 13:44
BritSimon
what type of visa can I ask
Dear sir first of all I want to thank you for your patience to accept and read my letter . Then I feel that I have to briefly introduce you myself before I raised the issue that necessitated me .
I am a young man who lives in the northern part of Addis Ababa Ethiopia (shiromeda). professionally I am graduate of architectural and urban planning in BA degree.
The main reason to write this letter to you is a matter of cooperation for two up to three and half years visa of your country because I planned to change one new idea in to practice in the above mentioned time. What’s left now is the technical part or the implementation of the new idea. It is also clear that your country has better experience in materializing and encouraging such types of innovative works. Therefore I have planned to launch or change this Idea in to practice in your country. Because if I tried it here (in Ethiopia) I may face different challenges. Dear sir as you may understand it from the aforementioned lines my plan is to introduce an invention. That is why I preferred to refrain from explaining the specific content of my new idea. Because it is a new invention, I have to keep the details of this idea in secret.
Therefore, I sincerely request you to allow me a two up to three and half year visa of your country in order to change my new idea and my dream in to reality.
With best regards
Markos Mulugeta
August 12, 2019 at 13:48
I only answer DV lottery related questions – so I cannot advise you what other visas to consider.
August 12, 2019 at 14:45
Hello Brits, Please I want to know how many times am i suppose to check my DV Lottery results when they are released thank you.
August 12, 2019 at 19:21
One time in May, and then check again in October.
August 12, 2019 at 14:57
Hello Brit, just a quick one. How is Trumps recent immigration regulation which was released on Monday going to affect me and my family (DV 2019 winners), who wish to enter and activate our visas next month?
Our visas expire in December, we are both professionals, we used the host system because we are from Ghana and we will be changing our host address at POE.
Thanks.
August 12, 2019 at 19:23
It does not affect you directly but you must be even more careful to make sure you are self supporting financially, because it is clear that this administration will try to tighten the laws around immigrants accessing MORE forms of public assistance.
August 13, 2019 at 12:55
Thank you Brit for your honest feedback.
1. But would these public assistance include schools for my kids up to the college level?
2. How about medical aid during pregnancy and child birth?
Thanks.
August 13, 2019 at 14:00
1, No
2. At the moment that is excluded, but realistically that cannot be assumed to not be changed again. So – plan to pay your way.
August 12, 2019 at 15:31
Hi Simon;
Now I my VISA is issued; I have a bunch of questions.
BUT;
Firstly, I want to thank you about all the efforts you’re giving to help us! It was a stressful year, I think I’ve used this blog more than I used Facebook or StackOverflow, I will donate if I have a card… BIG THANKS!
So this is Hakim, 18 years old from Algeria, in September I’ll start my 2nd year (of 5 years) in a College of CS, for me it’s important to get my degree, my first question is I want to know your opinion about that: is it better to get my degree here & enroll directly in a master in the US or move now and struggle starting from scratch ? (question-0 because all my plan is based on)
I-| You said that the first year is considered as an activation trip & it’s not an obligation to take up residence during this year and the circumstances are very understandable so it’s safe to get home, I want to know if there’s any text law describing this situation ?
II-| I plan to (activate my LPR status) the beginning of December to get back in 2, ~3 weeks to study here until June, is that Normal (Safe)? If I get questioned by the CBP June 2020, what am I going to tell him & could they pass me before an immigration judge?
III-| supposing I move in December, my brother comes back home (to Algeria) each year in February, can he take with him my Green Card? Will it be useful (having the card in my hand for the next entry even with the endorsement)?
IV-| what do you advise me to do in the US when entering in December (like opening a bank account etc.)?
V-| if everything goes well, next June in the US I’ll apply for a Reentry Permit, can I visit the US for the summer period (3 months) & work during the 2 years of validity?
Thank you ?

About education. At your age it would make MUCH more sense to go to college in the USA. It can be affordable and the value of the degree to employers will be MUCH higher than a degree earned in Algeria. I strongly suggest you put some thought into ways you can do that.
I. There are many places where that is documented. You don’t need to study that.
II. That is answered in my FAQ on absences. Up to 6 months is safer than up to 12 months, but problems in either scenario (less than 6 or 6 to 12) are rare.
III. Yes.
IV. Bank acoount would be useful, get your SSN card, make friends, decide where to live. Normal stuff. But also for you, looking at how to enroll in a college would be the best option.
V. Yes

Hello Mr.Simon
I have a question. I am one of the winners of DV2020, I submitted my DS260 form application two months ago, now I want to marry a man which I love. I would like to know is it risky to add him to my application? And should we present some proofs about our relationships?? What you will recommend??
P.S. My case number is 2020EU23####.
August 12, 2019 at 19:34
You can marry and add him yes. Please read the FAQ explaining how.

Hi brit, just contacted kcc unfortunately derivatives were not added, now can they be mentioned in the selectee’s ds260 8f she goes on with the application
August 12, 2019 at 18:24
No. Denial for this case is 100% certain. It would be a waste of time and money to continue. She was required to list her derivatives on the initial entry, which means AT LEAST the children that were already born at the time of the entry, and you too if you were married at the time of entry.
August 12, 2019 at 19:51

Hi Simon,
I need your expertise or at least opinion, if possible. According to the recent news, the Trump administration is issuing new rules for green card applicants. Please see the article: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2019/08/12/us/politics/trump-immigration-policy.amp.html
Do you think it could affect DV 2020 as well? And shall we take it into consideration for the interview?
Thank you in advance! I appreciate your help.

The climate around immigration is “hardening”. So – whilst this might not be any real change in the laws (public charge was already a factor), the general direction/pressure is against immigrants.

Hi Brit, i read about the i134 supporting documents (1040, W2, payslips).
1) Is (i134 + photo id + 1040 tax record) enough for sponsorship or
2)has to be full load i.e (i134+ photo id+ 1040+w2 payslips).
Thanks!

Hi brit, my question is actually deeper than this and wish to remain private without providing details here. If possible may I email you? I appreciate your work. Thanks.

You need the address of a relative or friend in the USA which will be the address where your Green Card will be sent.

Hello Brit , does this new rule highlighted below by president Trump’s administration affect or change the dv lottery visa issuance process? ?
The Trump administration released a regulation Monday that could dramatically cut the number of legal immigrants allowed to enter and stay in the US by making it easier to reject green card and visa applications.
The rule means many green card and visa applicants could be turned down if they have low incomes or little education, and have used benefits such as most forms of Medicaid, food stamps, and housing vouchers, because they’d be deemed more likely to need government assistance in the future. It will encourage “self-reliance and self-sufficiency for those seeking to come to or stay in the United States,” said acting US Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Ken Cuccinelli, appearing in the White House briefing room. In doing so, though, it’ll likely make it harder for low-income immigrants to come to the US.
When asked about whether the rule is unfairly targeting low-income immigrants, Cuccinelli said: “We certainly expect people of any income to be able to stand on their own two feet, so if people are not able to be self-sufficient, than this negative factor is going to bear very heavily against them in a decision about whether they’ll be able to become a legal permanent resident. ”
The 837-page rule applies to those seeking to come to or remain in the United States via legal channels and is expected to impact roughly 382,000 people seeking to adjust their immigration, according to the Department of Homeland Security. However, immigration advocates say millions of people could be affected by the regulation.

Hi,
I am filling the DS-260 and I am confused about the question that asks “Were you previously employed?”. I have been employed by the same place for the past 15 years, whose name I put into my current career. I *have* had previous employment by other places, but the question only asks for details regarding the past 10 years, for which I have no extra information to add. What should I answer – yes or no? “Yes” would need me to input extra details.
I hope that makes sense… thank you!
August 13, 2019 at 14:13
“no”
