Hi Brit, I have researched the questions on the ds260 form and I would like your opinion. One of the questions on the ds260 form ask,
“will your spouse be migrating with you”
I am the principal applicant and my husband will migrate (if I win and all goes well) years after as his son (my stepson) has to finish schooling and when my husband is retired. Will I put yes or no to the question? Because I don’t know what should the answer be. Yes he will migrate, but it will be in some years.
And it’s the DV lottery and I’m seeing that there is the petitioner’s information on the ds260 form, no one is petitioning for me that is why I’m applying for the lottery. Will the petitioner’s information be mandatory to answer in DV lottery? Or the question format will be slightly different?
I don’t want to put an answer that will jeopardise my husband’s job and my stepson’s school. We all have our visitors visa and hubby would come visit me or vice versa if I get through.
Please help me, your opinion will be greatly appreciated!!
October 14, 2019 at 02:08
Sounds like you should not have your husband go through the DV process with you because the timeline would not suit.
You are self petitioning.
October 15, 2019 at 02:37
Thanks, so when it’s time for me to answer the question, “will your spouse be migrating with me?” I should put the answer as NO then? I’ve seen the follow up question as “will your spouse be migrating at a later date?”… how should I answer it? If I put the answer as NO, I’m afraid they will ask me why I don’t want him to migrate with me because of the factors I have listed above (his permanent job and his son completing school) He has a visitor visa, will they take away his visitor visa?
October 15, 2019 at 04:03
You just answer truthfully. Stop overthinking.
October 13, 2019 at 19:09
Hi British, didn’t finish high school, but did some university courses on IT, which of the education option should I chose please
October 14, 2019 at 02:20
Pretty logically… some university courses
October 13, 2019 at 20:08
My question is
I’ve never been married but I have two kids with a former girlfriend. Can I include those two kids on the DV entry form? Please advise me I want to play 2021 dv.
I’m waiting for response
October 14, 2019 at 02:21
You must include them.
October 13, 2019 at 20:21

But have been in a building an construction company for two years an a half. I wish to ask if there can issue me a working experience certificate so I can use for dv lottery? Cause I can perform well in the field
October 14, 2019 at 02:22
You can apply, but I do not think you would meet the requirements.
October 14, 2019 at 13:23
Hello sir, what is the best thing for me to do now, cause I have been in the field since in school for more than 8years and engage in the company for more than 2years. ? If I applied an be selected what will be the best thing for me to do?Thanks sir.
October 14, 2019 at 19:24
You must decide what to do. If you enter and are selected you will have to prove how you meet the requirements. You can read more about that here:

October 15, 2019 at 09:44
HI SIR
this is Shoaib
I am here to ask you that we have been selected for the 2020 DV lottery and I am worried about our number is 11xxx so I live in Afghanistan which is in Asian region.
October 15, 2019 at 09:46

October 15, 2019 at 16:06
No harm in entering again if you want.
October 15, 2019 at 16:06
Your number is fine.
October 13, 2019 at 23:37
Hello sir,
I have a question about the level of education for lottory. I have a high school diploma and am enrolled in university that I have not finished yet. For the choice of the level of study, I have to choose 3 (High school diploma) or 5 (some university courses)
Thanks
October 14, 2019 at 02:36
5
October 15, 2019 at 05:55
I used the Hight School degree. I am like you but they didn’t Ask me my university diploma
October 13, 2019 at 23:46
Hi Simon, sorry I’m bothering you but can you please answer some of my questions?
1. I have an university degree for a 3 and a half technitian carreer. Should I select still – University degree? Or – Some university courses?
2. What if I haven’t finished the same carrer (wich is my boyfriend case), does it count as – Some university courses too?
3. We got our visa photos taken from a photo studio but the photographer cut out the background to make it plain white (as it was plain off white-gray). No retouching was made for ourselves, just the background. Can we use this pic or the original one?
October 14, 2019 at 02:38
1. You can choose.
2. Yes
3. Again – you can choose…
October 15, 2019 at 05:58
You can choose that but for the interview you will need only your hight school degree. That what happened to me
October 14, 2019 at 02:16
Hi Britt
I have two last names. for example Mario Andrés Vargas Llosa, should I put both Vargas and Llosa in the entry last name or just Vargas?
thank you so much in advance

October 14, 2019 at 05:25
My nationality in bangladesh.but I am working in Saudi Arabia so I can apply dv lottery ?
October 14, 2019 at 16:11
No
October 14, 2019 at 05:30
Hi Sir
Please I want to apply DV lottery this year and I’m getting married this year December the entry should I say I’m single and what will happen if I get the visa to my wife
October 14, 2019 at 16:20
You must answer questions truthfully – so at the time of entry you will select unmarried. If you are selected as a winner, you will be able to add your wife to your case later.
October 15, 2019 at 06:04
According to me yes but remember also that you could be suspected by blank marriage. So according to me, better take time before doing that. My cousin has been disqualified because she applied single but filled married her online 260 and for the interview the officer thought that something was wrong but she was truthfully married and after that she lost her husband because he obliged her to put that new status while she wanted to finish the process like single and update the file later
October 15, 2019 at 15:50
@Joel, please leave the answering to me. Your input could be confusing. Thanks.
October 14, 2019 at 06:06
Dear Simon,
My daughter is finishing in high school (matric) this year and we (my wife and I ) have put her as a child as she is still under 21. My question is, can she apply separately in the DV2021 and if so can she choose Primary education since she has already attained that?
October 14, 2019 at 06:09
Please note my wife and I have already applied for DV 2021 and included our daughter as a child in our applications
October 14, 2019 at 16:20
She can and can choose the most accurate education level.
October 14, 2019 at 06:30
Hi Brit Simon 🙂
Just a quick question- Just filing in my DS260 and answering the question “Have you ever been issued a US Visa?”
Is an ESTA through the visa waiver program considered a visa?
Thank you
October 14, 2019 at 16:30
No. The Visa WAIVER program is, by definition, about not having a visa.
October 14, 2019 at 06:34
Greetings. I just played the DV lottery for this year and submitted without including my daughter in it. I wish to find out what I can do to solve the problem please.
Thanks
October 14, 2019 at 16:31
Nothing. You cannot fix it. If you were to be selected you will not be able to proceed with the case.
October 14, 2019 at 07:49
Hi, is it ok if we NEVER got any email from KCC, even when we filled out our DS260. Its been 4 months and a week. Do you think this is normal ?
October 14, 2019 at 16:32
Yes – normal.
October 14, 2019 at 07:51
Hello Brit,
My passport expires in Nov2020
Do you think I can still enter DV2021?
Thank you!
October 14, 2019 at 16:32
Yes
October 14, 2019 at 08:34
Hi Brit
I have been selected in DV2020, but my case number is high AF70$$$.
My question is:
Can I apply again in DV2021, I am afraid if I apply again they may remove me??
Can my wife apply in DV2021?
Thanks
October 14, 2019 at 16:33
You and your wife ca both apply for DV2021. No affect at all on your DV2020 case.
October 14, 2019 at 08:50
My partner is irish, I am english. I know she an apply for the lottery.
Does the US recognise our relationship, or do you need to be married.
Thanks
October 14, 2019 at 17:48
You have to be married.
October 14, 2019 at 10:47
Hello Brit. This year They introduced the passport To register for DV lottery to reduce fraud but I see that people who do not have a passport and in their countries they are not prohibited from obtaining the passport register by checking the exception option. Do you think that those who played without their passports will be eliminated before the draw
October 14, 2019 at 19:20
No. Those people will be included in the draw, because they will be given the chance to explain their selection of the exemption at the interview. Assuming they will then be disqualified, that will cost them greatly because they will have paid for medicals, interview fees and so on.
October 14, 2019 at 20:58
Ok in my country People use national identity cards to register using the card number and yet in Guinea the passport number always starts with Letter O, some use the exception option to register and also Sierra Leone People come to our different Universities To shoot People by asking them for the National Identity Card and if they are selected they charge them money or forget to do the pairing. frankly if you work there they eliminate all those who played using their identity card or who have the exception option for the case of Africa before the draw

Britt, others create fake passport numbers. They can tell to the consular agents that their passports have been stolen or lost, what would be their fate?
October 15, 2019 at 15:53
They will be disqualified.
October 14, 2019 at 11:09
Dear Mr Simon,
I applied for DV since many years ago. I selected as marriage and filled my fiancee’s name as a spouse. But I stop doing this since last yeas because I realised that was wrong practice. Because of that would I be still disqualified in DV 2021? And can I still apply for DV 2021?
I really appreciate for your advice.
Thank you
October 14, 2019 at 19:21
You can apply for DV2021. But of course they may then ask why you did not include your spouse that you have been including each year up to now.
October 14, 2019 at 11:51
Hi Brit,
I’ve recently received a police certificate for document submission but some parts of the consulate’s address is missing as it kind of too long. Please tell me what I should do,should I submit this to KCC or apply for a new one???Thanks in advance.
October 14, 2019 at 19:22
Use that one.
October 14, 2019 at 13:19
Hi brit, the second draw are only during end of September and early October right? So the dv2020 won’t have a second draw?
Thanks
October 14, 2019 at 19:22
I don’t think there has been or will be a second draw in DV2020
October 14, 2019 at 15:03
I have applied for DS260 Visa on September 26th. My case ID is 2020AS287XX from Sri Lanka. I didn’t receive an email from KCC yet, asking me to submit scanned documents. Do you have any idea on a rough time taken for that?
Thanks!

October 15, 2019 at 04:09
No. AFTER the draw (which is worse for them because they will have paid fees by then).
October 14, 2019 at 20:25
No idea. The order in which the document emails are being sent is NOT predictable.
October 14, 2019 at 21:09
Hi em, can you tell me the embassy that you are goi g to interview?
Thanks
October 14, 2019 at 15:07
Hi Simon,
I would like to enter DV lottery but I’v received a HSC GCE award at the completion of secondary school in November 1999. I’m from Mauritius, we have primary school for six yrs then 7 yrs of secondary school. (Hsc is broken down in 2yrs, 1st yr lower and 2nd, upper). My grades weren’t so great and never resat for the exams. I failed two A level subjects. Would you say that I need to resit for them as a mature student. I know I have till 5th of november to enter. I’m currently living in Dublin, Ireland for a couple of yrs now and I’m on reckonable residence visa. I’m currently unemployed but was previously working as a lead generator/IT pre sales in a call centre for 3 yrs which is also close to the role of a sales representative that is job zone 4/ svp 7<8. I'm hoping to find a job very soon, though.
What would you suggest me to do?
Thank you and appreciate your time to answer me.
October 14, 2019 at 20:47
You will have to decide for yourself whether to rely on your work experience of firm up your education. Either way, you can enter the lottery and see if you are selected.
October 14, 2019 at 15:18
hi, i made a mistake of repeating the same photo which i used for last year dv lottery. I would like to know how can i be disqualified( i.e. not considered for lottery selection) as my photo was accepted by dv lottery. Also in one of your posts you mentioned immigration will disqualify entries (for mistakes) even before announcement takes place on may 7 2020.. Could you explain in detail or give a real example as to how it happens because when we check results ,it only shows applicant ‘has not been selected’ instead of saying ‘applicant disqualified’ ?
October 14, 2019 at 21:11
In the past lotteries, people have NOT been disqualified before the announcement. And there is no one that ever saw ‘applicant disqualified’ when they check. Now – it may change in the future, but you can’t do anything about that now. So – there is no point in worrying about this now.
October 14, 2019 at 16:15
Hi. I’m currently separated from my husband. Am I technically considered married for the DV application? Can I apply as single on the diversity visa? I cannot get a photo of my ex.
October 15, 2019 at 04:10
Unless you are LEGALLY separated (with court documents) then yes you are married and cannot enter without his photo and details.
October 15, 2019 at 07:48
Hello Brit,
When one of the couple win with his or her family. Can he or she support his or her application with his or her spouse bank statement?

October 14, 2019 at 16:19
Hi, when entering the US after your Green card is issued, the main applicant has to enter first either with their family or on their own. Is it ok for the spouse of the main applicant to :
1) enter with the family and then leave a week later, and return a few weeks later?
2) Enter later than the main applicant ?
Thanks
October 14, 2019 at 18:00
Good evening brit. When drawing for dv 2021, those who are registered with their passports are they priority?
October 14, 2019 at 23:08
Why are you asking this? It is written on your confirmation code the day the results will be available. When it will be draw not important and I think no priority about passport because no passport no way except trying to cheat but at the end it is disqualification. Use common sense and respect his time.
October 14, 2019 at 18:29
what if is difficult to obtain the supporting documents (no document available) to witness the country of birth when this country was not yours and today you are in your real country? for example I was born in Uganda while my parents were in the exile and today I am in Rwanda about 25 years after refuge status, what should I do to make application and after it easy?
October 15, 2019 at 04:08
I don’t know. I have no experience of what you are describing. Use your own judgement.
October 14, 2019 at 18:31
Hello sir, what is the best thing for me to do now, cause I have been in the field since in school for more than 8years and engage in the company for more than 2years. ?If I applied an be selected for the DV LOTTERY what is the best thing to do sir to meet up with the requirements. ?
October 14, 2019 at 18:36
Since you set I can apply but not sure I can meet up with the requirement? Advice
October 14, 2019 at 19:48
Hello Brit please I want to know if you would add others family members on your program after sucessive winning for Dv2021
October 14, 2019 at 19:49
Hi Brit,
I have a very specific situation and couldn’t find anything similar on the Web so far. Maybe you might help?
I am a citizen of Belarus permanently living in Germany (country of birth qualifying for Green Card is Belarus). I won the 2020 Diversity Lottery amidst the process of naturalisation here in Germany, which means that around February 2020 I will technically become a stateless person for a few weeks before becoming a German citizen around March. I practically cannot revert this process but still want to take a chance with immigrating to the US.
Two questions:
1) Is change of citizenship generally not a showstopper for obtaining Diversity Visa?
2) Technically: What is the best time/tactics (and “status”, i.e. being Belarusian vs. German) from your perspective to complete DS-260 in my particular situation? As you see, factors to consider are e.g. not applying too late (my number is 2020EU00010XXX), but at the same time it might happen that I apply to DS-260 and come to the interview having different passports or even changing citizenship already after the Visa is issued (= a bit non-standard situation).
I am also concerned because of these several weeks without any citizenship. Do you think postponing an interview after the Embassy has proposed some particular date or after my number became current is possible?
Sorry for the lengthy questions but it was impossible to keep it shorter due to complexity. Any hints are highly appreciated as I am very confused and don’t know where to search for help otherwise.
Many thanks,
Michael
October 14, 2019 at 20:50
Hi Britsimon, I have completed ds260 on may and my number is EU31xxx but still haven’t gotten a reply for further documents. A week ago I just got my masters degree, on the form I had said my highest degree achieved was highschool, should I unlock my ds260 to update it? Or is it okay if I show my highest degree on the interview, and email Kcc because maybe they just forgot to ask for my documents?
What do you suggest?
October 15, 2019 at 03:52
No need to unlock. You can email KCC if you want – although you have time to wait anyway…
October 15, 2019 at 06:01
Hello Mr. Brit. I divorced with my husband, we divorced in a traditional way without going through justice. I do not like him I’m never going to marry him again. I want to play the lottery this year. Which option should I choose: legal separation or divorced
October 15, 2019 at 15:49
It sounds like you are not legally divorced, therefore you are still married and cannot enter without your spouses details and photo.
October 14, 2019 at 21:16
Hello britsimon I was asking while entering the lottery 2021 on the education background if a person has a certificate in his studies what should a person do.
October 15, 2019 at 03:54
No need to overthink this. Just pick High school.
October 15, 2019 at 10:30
Even if he or she is employed and has like 3years of experience
October 15, 2019 at 16:07
I answered.
October 14, 2019 at 21:39
What happens if for example I have started filing my online application and power goes off from my computer or while submitting the process jams which requires sending and the 30 minutes are over. What happens? Is one still eligible to apply since the first suission is a failure or the system will detect someone is trying to send multiple applications.
October 15, 2019 at 03:55
The FAQ for the entry says – no confirmation = no entry.
October 14, 2019 at 23:26
HI
MY MOTHER SUBMITTED ENTRY FOR DV2021 SUCCESSFULLY, BUT MADE A MISTAKE INDICATING WRONG COUNTRY OF BIRTH. SHE MISTOOK THE ENTRY FOR THE COUNTRY SHE LIVES NOW.
BOTH COUNTRIES SHE WAS BORN AND LIVES NOW ARE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN DV2021.
DO YOU THINK SHE WILL BE DISQUALIFIED IF SHE IS SELECTED?
THANK YOU
IRADA
October 15, 2019 at 03:56
It depends on which two countries we are talking about.
October 15, 2019 at 07:28
HI
THANKS FOR REPLY
SHE WAS BORN IN RUSSIA, DAGHESTAN, SINCE 4 YEAR OLD LIVED IN AZERBAIJAN,GOT MARRIED TO AZERBAIJAN CITIZEN AND LIVED ENTIRE LIFE IN AZERBAIJAN.
WHILE ENTERING DV2021 SHE MISTAKENLY CLAIMED THAT SHE WAS BORN IN BAKU, AZERBAIJAN INSTEAD RUSSIA. SHE HAS LIVED ALL HER LIFE IN AZERBAIJAN. JUST I THINK SHE MADE A MENTAL ERROR.
OF COURSE, SHE NEEDS TO BE SELECTED FIRST, I UNDERSTAND THAT.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
October 15, 2019 at 15:59
Both countries are in the EU region – and therefore it is not a problem. No need to do anything – just wait and see if she is selected.
October 16, 2019 at 03:17

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP AND WISE ADVISE. GOD BLESS!

Hi Simon,
Thank you for all these valuable information; Unfortunately I got to know your blog and youtube channel after I applied for the DV 2021. I was missing some details and I rushed. I look the same in the picture I uploaded but it is older than 6 months so I know I will be immediately disqualified. Is there anything I can do to fix it? How can I upload a new picture? I saw I could cancel my submission but can I then re-apply?
Thank you for all your help!
October 15, 2019 at 04:01
Nothing you can do to fix it, no.
October 15, 2019 at 02:39
Hi Dave,
I am confuse about the country of issuance in the new DV 2021. I hope you can kindly clarify. I hold a Malaysian passport, and it was issue by Malaysia consulate at NYC while I was a student there (I am now back in Malaysia). What should my answer be for this question? Let me know

I can not check my photo on the free tool because I don’t have Internet Explorer.
Your video instructions: “DV Lottery || How to create your lottery photo using just a phone”.
I work on a Mac Pro, and from everything I read, Internet Explorer Browser can’t be downloaded.
Would you give me another tool I can use please. I have taken the photo on my iPhone and uploaded it to my Mac Pro.
Thank you.
October 15, 2019 at 04:06
Try and find some other tool then.

Hello Britsimon…
We are DV2020 OC 4** so believe we will be interviewed late this year or early next year (pending case number this month).
My question is regarding the Education Requirement. The PA has a PhD and is currently a Professor at a well known uni. However, he can’t find his High School Certificate. We can order one if necessary though.
Would you advise us/him to get a new High School Certificate just to cover all bases? Or do you think a PhD and a career as a Professor (been in peer-reviewed journal articles, world wide research collaborations, known in his field etc…) is adequate? I did read up on your FAQ’s about individuals who might have a Masters Degree but don’t have their High School Certificate/Diploma and possible concerns about the CO denying them the visa so just wanted to see what you thought.
Thanks as always for your guidance,
Almost There…
October 15, 2019 at 15:52
He will not have a problem qualifying – on work experience even if a CO was picky. So it’s nothing to be concerned about- just take the Phd and proof of the current role.
October 15, 2019 at 07:15
Sir Brit!
I have nineteen years old daughter with baby, 1-Can I register her ? She is not married. 2-What can I do about the baby? As I am not its father.
Thank you.
October 15, 2019 at 15:56
You can register your daughter, BUT your grandchild cannot be included in the DV application. So – you would possibly be able to get the child a GC through an I-130 process, but that would take a long time and leave the child apart from your daughter.

Dear Brit,
I competed secondary school in 1988, in Sudan but I did not get the certificate and now I am South Sudanese but I have one year public administration certificate from university I also have certificate of Inspector General from army institute, and I have been practising this work since 2013. But when I checked the job zone it falls under 6 to< 7. So which one is the best to qualify me in interview? If I am selected.

Hi Simon,
Passport number is now required in participating it the DV-2021 Lottery.
Do you think that filing for the DV Lottery will have any significant impact on any future visa applications?
For example, will I have any problem if I apply for a B1/B2 visa in the future? My concern is that my name and passport number will pop out in their system and they might believe that I have immigrant intent because I participated in DV Lottery. The true is that currently immigrate in the US is only a wish; only in the case of winning, I will carefully considered if leave everything behind to start a new life.
Thanks in advance for your reply.
Silvia
