Dear Mr.Brit,
My case number is 2020AS8XXX. I want to delay my Interview till end of July 2020. I sent my DS 260 in september. But I did’t send the documents yet. When should I send my documents. Thanking you in advance.
November 9, 2019 at 15:03
You can’t determine when in a month you get scheduled so for an August interview, send the documents in early May.

Hello Simon, it is just for information. So DV 2020 interviews have started. In Uzbekistan consular officers are still refusing too much. In the forums says more than half of applicant leave without visa. Usually CO say photo doesnot correspond to rules. But people say their photos were ok. We do not know why this is happening in Uzbekistan. Though this year very less people win the lottery. Do you have any idea? Do you think CO may refuse because of the photo even the photo is ok? By the in Tashkent no financial documents required. Do advise to bring bank statement and assets documents to the interview?
Thank you
November 9, 2019 at 16:50
I don’t know the specifics of why cases are refused in such numbers there – but it has been that way for years. Given the high rate of applications, it is clear that many entries come through agents, and it would not be a surprise then that those entries do not comply with the rules.

November 9, 2019 at 21:37
So it may be cuz of denial

Hi Brit, I am DV lottery selectee. I unable to go past the address page as the page keeps refreshing or getting stuck probably due to the heavy Net traffic. Is there another way to overcome this obstacle or another way to submit the DS-260 form ? It has been several days trying the get past this page but unable to.
November 9, 2019 at 19:00
I don’t know of any outages. I suggest you wait a couple of days, change your browser, and try again.
November 11, 2019 at 16:12
Hi, I do have a follow up query. Is it okay to submit just one present address while filling DS-260 forms and then during document submission phase, declare/submit them an entire list of addresses.
November 11, 2019 at 16:40
No. The DS260 should be answered accurately.
November 12, 2019 at 17:19
Hello Brit.
I have contacted the KCC as you told me to and this is what they’ve replied.
Thank you for your inquiry.
Collect and submit your documents promptly. Your case will not be scheduled for a visa interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate until KCC has received and processed all required documents. Missing or illegible documents will delay processing of your case. If you cannot obtain a particular document, send a scanned or photographed explanation in of why you cannot obtain the document, as an attachment in .jpeg or .pdf format, to [email protected], with your case number in the subject line. Diversity visas are numerically limited and there is no guarantee a visa will be available. Only a consular officer can determine, at the time of the visa interview, if you are qualified to receive a Diversity Visa.
In order for the Kentucky Consular Center to assist with inquiries regarding a specific Diversity Visa (DV) case, you must provide the Principal Applicant’s full name, complete case number, and date of birth in the following format (MMDDYYYY) as entered on the original entry. Please remember that the Kentucky Consular Center does not have the authority to tell you whether or not your specific case will be disqualified. Only a consular officer can do that at the time of your visa interview. Do not send any paper documents to the Kentucky Consular Center.
1. What should I do next?
Please reply.
November 13, 2019 at 04:29
You click reply to our previous conversation not just any old conversation!
1. Use some simple logic please. You do NOT need to ask me for instructions every step of the way.
November 13, 2019 at 05:23
Thank you for your update Brit.
Well it’s not that I’m asking whatsoever step I’m taking but it’s that I don’t know what to do next. Whether to unlock the ds-260 or else, because you had told me to let them know and it’s what I’ve done.
I just need your help because I don’t even have documents for my spouse, she doesn’t even have passport.
1. Please I ask, what should I do now?
With Gusto
November 13, 2019 at 22:47
I told you not to submit the DS260, but you ignored me, and submitted anyway.
Then I told you to contact KCC and explain she would not be processing, and it looks like you did not do as I suggested.
So really – is there any point me telling you what to do if you just keep ignoring me?
So – literally my last attempt.
Contact KCC and explain she will not be processing. I suggest you PHONE THEM. Then take their instruction about whether to unlock her form or not.
November 12, 2019 at 02:51
Hi Brit, I’ve been selected for the 2020DV, I’ve submitted the DS260, and recently KCC sent Me an email to submit more documents but I found out that in my passport , the birthplace is incomplete, the city where I was born is missing. My question for you sir is, do I need to apply for another passport and unlock my DS-260 to update the passport information, because the passport number and the issue and expiration date might change or this not serious.
November 13, 2019 at 04:06
Your birth cert will prove your place of birth. So – your passport should not be a problem.

November 10, 2019 at 05:37
Dear Simon I can never thank you enough for this blog and all the efforts you put into helping us. Your blog and your valuable advice guided me through the whole dv process. I got my visa in July 2019 and I am entering the US in November for 5 days. I read the faq I just need to confirm I understood well
1. I do not need a reentry permit ( I will be returning to settle in the US next July or August)
2. Do I need to inform the officers at the airport of my reentry schedule or do I need to do anything specific regarding that?
3. My port of entry for this time will be Virginia the address I used is in Virginia and I will probably get my green card and my ssn mailed to the address I put in Virginia. But after reentry in August I will settle in another state whoch state would be my home state?
Thanks for your time.
November 11, 2019 at 15:22
1. No.
2. No
3. Wherever you settle.
November 9, 2019 at 22:39

My case number is AS63XX. I won from asia but currently in europe for masters studies. I have set the interview location in DS260 to stockholm.
I will be travelling to my home country from 6-30th january 2020.
1. Is there any chance for the interview to get scheduled on aboce days on which im away.
2. How many days in advance do they inform us the interview date?
3. Since rescheduling will delay my case, should i email KCC beforehand about this amd request not to schedule the interview during above period?
Thanks
November 11, 2019 at 15:39
Hi Brit,
I think you’ve missed my question probably because of the large number of posts….
November 11, 2019 at 16:46
1. I can’t guess
2. At least one month.
3. You must decide.
November 11, 2019 at 16:54
Thank you. If i need to push my interview towards february , do you think its a good idea to submit ds260 now and submit documents by january ?
November 11, 2019 at 18:14
February interviews will be based on cases that are current, and submitted the DS260 AND documents before the beginning of December.

Hello Brit
I have a quick question, I’m DV2018 winner when I was filling my DS 260 I used other names used column.
1. When filling any US immigration forms like (N-400 or I-130) do I need to use the other names used columns again or say no to the question have you ever used another names.

Just be truthful.
November 10, 2019 at 05:13
Hi Brit, thank you for your support through out this journey. Am 2020AF39XX. We are scheduled for the interview next week. I have just noted that I wrote the wrong date of leaving my previous employment. Please advise whether this could be an issue during the interview.
November 11, 2019 at 15:20
No problem.
November 11, 2019 at 18:25
Ok Brit! So what should I do now. Please advise me.
1. Is their any risks now?
2. What should i do now?
3. Shall my case get current even?
4. I submited my docs, and didn’t submit hers. Is it a mistake as well?
5. Please reply! Being honest my heart is over pumping now.
November 11, 2019 at 18:32
Calm down.
If you do not want her to process with you, let KCC know that if you submitted the DS260. Otherwise they will see your documents as incomplete.
November 10, 2019 at 09:08
Hi Brit,
I am applying for the green card through the work experience route, I have my service letter confirming the period of employment in each organisation. I have only one original from each of the employers. Which authority does the US embassy expect us to validate the copy of the document as a certified true copy?
Regards
Aslam

I just realised that I forgot to enter my father’s middle name in the DS260 form (he never used it, and it slipped my mind). Am I screwed? Or is it a minor error that can be clarified at the interview?

hi brit i made a mistake by using my first name as my last and last name as my first in the entry but filling the ds260 i made that correction can i be disqualified
November 11, 2019 at 15:35
Generally they will forgive such errors as long as there are no fraud concerns. In West Africa though denials for this are more common.
November 10, 2019 at 12:03

November 11, 2019 at 15:59

Hello Brit,
I got my police clearance from the previous country that i used to work in. But i didnt mentioned on ds 260 that i have been working that country because of company assignment not by my self and hadn’t have the police clearance by the time i fill the ds 260 back in may. So now i got the certificate. My question is should i unlock ds260 and amend? Or should i explain at the interview? Am afraid the amendment might delay the ds260 process and to be suspicious.(CN AF19***). What do u think on the matteur.
November 11, 2019 at 16:21
It would be unwise to leave the DS260 uncorrected.
November 10, 2019 at 22:12
Hello sir , I submitted my DS260 on the 19th of October 2019 , and I wish to find out the next step.My case number is Af 68***

Hello brit….,

November 11, 2019 at 16:25
You can contact KCC to ask about your documents email.
November 12, 2019 at 18:16
Thank you for your inquiry.
Your forms have been received and are currently processing. Allow several weeks for processing. Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing. Once the Kentucky Consular Center has finished processing your DS-260, you will receive an email from the Kentucky Consular Center giving you instructions to complete in order for your case to continue processing.
In order to continue processing your case, all documents should be submitted as attachments to your email to ensure they are properly received. We ask that you use the following method to name and attach your files:
• Your DV case number;
• The full name of the applicant whose document you scanned; and
• The document name or form number.
For example:
2020AF00938653_John_Doe_Passport.pdf
2020AF00938653_Jane_Doe_Birth_Certificate.pdf
Use your case number as the subject of the email. The maximum email size is 30MB. If the total size of your attachments is larger than 30MB, send multiple emails using your case number as the subject of each email. Please send your documents for KCC review only after you have collected all of the required documents for yourself and all accompanying family members. Send documents only to the [email protected] email address.
Documents photographed or scanned with a mobile phone are acceptable, but every document must be fully legible. Illegible or incomplete documents must be re-submitted and will delay processing of your case.
You and each family member immigrating with you to the United States should collect the civil documents that are required to support your visa application.
Passport Biographic Page: You and each family member immigrating with you must submit a photocopy of the biographic data page of a currently valid passport. The biographic data page is the page with your photograph, name, date, and place of birth.
Birth Certificate: You and each family member immigrating with you must submit a scan of an original birth certificate or certified copy.
Marriage Certificate: If you are married, you must submit a scan of your original marriage certificate or certified copy.
Marriage Termination Documentation: If you were previously married, you must submit scanned evidence of the termination of EVERY prior marriage you have had. Your scanned evidence must be of an original or certified copy of one of the following documents: FINAL legal divorce decree, death certificate, or annulment papers.
Military Records: If you served in the military of any country, you must submit a scanned copy of your military record.
Police Certificates: If you are 16 years of age or older, you must submit a scanned copy of a police certificate from all countries you have lived. Please refer to travel.state.gov for more information.
Court Record: If you have been convicted of a crime, provide a certified copy of each court record and any prison record.

Hello Brit,
CN AF 19xxx
I just received my police clearance from the previous country that i have been working at before 2 yrs.
The point is i havent mentioned that i lived in that country because of the absence of police clearance from there and i lost my passport and changed to new one.
My Question is : 1. should i unlock the ds260 and mention the case or shall i explain it on the interview if the CO asks?
2. I have recived the doc submission email and i send it 2 weeks ago but i havent sent the police clearance from the previous country i have lived coz i didnt mention it on DS 260. Shall i send it now?
3. Do u think unlocking ds260 might delay the process?
November 11, 2019 at 16:44
1. Unlock and correct. Your DS260 must be accurate!
2. Correct first.
3. Do you prefer delay or denial?
November 11, 2019 at 19:12
Okay thanks brit got the point. But do you think they start processing DS 260 by now? Since my case is getting closer and sent my documents.
Will it create a confusion on them when they see new information on ds 260 if they already start processing it?
Thanks for quick reply
November 11, 2019 at 19:21
I don’t know. But get on with it.
November 17, 2019 at 08:09
Brit,
Thanks I have done as u suggest (unlock the ds260 and update infos and also send my police certificate) now i can sleep peacefully.

Hi Brit am a dv 2020 winner and if my sponsor did it for her mum this year june, can she also do it for me next year Jan?thanks
November 11, 2019 at 18:14
There is risk in that plan, because of the previous sponsorship.
November 11, 2019 at 17:37
Hi Brit! I’m dv2020. I was reading on some forums that CO can denied your case because of the photo you used in DV application. I didn’t do a professional photo (didn’t have possibility), so I did it on my phone. Now I’m worried about it. I thought if your application is not denied initially, there are no issues with your photo.
Please advise. Thanks!
November 11, 2019 at 18:17
You are probably worrying for nothing. Did you check the photo instructions? If so – then relax.
November 11, 2019 at 23:01
Thx! it is just a stressful time 🙁
November 11, 2019 at 17:39
Hi Brit, nice to great you. I am a winner of the DV2020 lotery, SA12** , i am from Venezuela, I was born in Porlamar city that is what my birth certificate says, that i put in my entry and my DS260 but my passport says i was born in San Juan Bautista (The city where i live now). WILL THERE BE ANY PROBLEM WITH THAT?
November 11, 2019 at 18:17
No
November 11, 2019 at 18:24
Hi jose nice to meet you, i am from porlamar too, we got a whatsapp group… may you give us your whatsapp number to add you?… my cellphone is +56948994779 ….

Thanks for your time
November 11, 2019 at 20:35
Hi Brits,
Here actually not a question but a big thank to you after answering some of my questions.
I’ve been granted a visa on the 25 Sept, 4 days before the end of the DV Lottery 2019.
So I really really appreciate your assistance and time spent for answering those questions whenever I needed answers.
God bless you!
November 11, 2019 at 23:00
I’m glad you got in within the deadline!
November 11, 2019 at 21:32
Hi Brit,
Yesterday we have asked KCC to unlock the DS260 (reason was change of residential address) for both of us.
My query is how will we know that KCC has unlock the DS260.Will they send us an email?
KCC sent us an email to send documents like passport, police certificates, etc two weeks ago. So should we wait for them to unlock the DS260 and edit the DS260 first before sending the requested documents by email?
Or we can send the document now and wait for DS260 to be edited later when it’s unlocked by KCC.
Our case number is AS11*** from Nepal.
Please advise.
November 11, 2019 at 23:00
They will send you an email. You can send the documents whenever you want.
November 12, 2019 at 11:14

So, this is another thing that kept me thinking.
Regarding the public discharge, you mention how getting a job offer (might) be an alternative to present to the CO.
My question now is, would it matter what kind of job?
E,g let’s say i got a job offer at Target, Walmart, or some small Comic book store, would that matter? since those are all minimum wage jobs/low positions?
How do you think the CO will look at this? What do you think the chances would be for someone that does has a job offer, but that offer is that of low paying job, or that his position in that job is, idk, mopping floors?
November 13, 2019 at 04:12
Having public discharge might be more a medical problem.
As for the rest of the question, you are not going to get a casual/low paying job like the ones you mention prior to being in the USA with the right to work. So the premise seems flawed.

Dear Great Simon
The embassy in Cairo called me to reschedule the interview from 30/12/2019 to 15/12/2019 without changing the 2nl , and they told me on the phone that 2nl wont be changed at ESC Home page and to attend in time , so its OK ??
November 13, 2019 at 04:14
Yes

Hello Badlarian . Please keep us updated with the Cairo process . I’ll have my interview in Cairo and as you know , there are very few people in Cairo reporting here or in the forum . Best of luck to your interview

Dear Brit, When i got an approved interview, i understand that i need to fly to the usa within 6 months to receive my green card. And how long can i stay out of the usa when i have an green card?

Brit, a principal applicant added his accompany wife twice(he started two DS-260 for her). One of them has just her first name, in the other one he added her middle name. Is there any way to delete an accompany from the “APPLICANT INFORMATION” chart?
November 13, 2019 at 04:16
No. One of them should be correct, and then submitted. Leave the other one unsubmitted.
November 13, 2019 at 04:49
Thanks a lot Brit, you are the best!!! May God bless you for all the people you help everyday.

Hello BritThis is my situation.I am a lottery winner in 2020. I have planned to go to work and travel program (J1 visa) Does sending ds 260 before interviewing for J1 visa can be a problem. My number is high EU47xxx. I don’t know if to send ds260 before the interview and on the other hand it might be late to send ds260 in May.
What do you recommend to me
Thanks so much!
November 13, 2019 at 04:20
You can send the DS260 in May.

Hi
Form W-2 is an Internal Revenue Service tax form used in the United States to report wages paid to employees and the taxes withheld from them.
My sponsor is a restaurant owner. How hes gonna get the W-2? What should be done in this case? For businessmen?
November 13, 2019 at 04:22
Form 1040.
November 12, 2019 at 17:07

November 13, 2019 at 04:32
What sort of “arfidavid” are we discussing?
November 13, 2019 at 08:21
From US, to show to embassy that I will have where to leave upon arrival and basic needs for the first 3 months or in the beginning.
November 13, 2019 at 23:06
You should get an I-134 once the interview is scheduled.
November 12, 2019 at 18:57
hello Brit,
I am here in United States and I work at my University as work study for 20 hrs a week, do I have to mention it on the DS260 in the employment section or current employer?
November 13, 2019 at 04:33
Do you think answering the questions is optional?
November 13, 2019 at 04:56
I am not sure Sir, as it is not a full time employment but we do get payment every other week on our bank account, so I am confused.
November 13, 2019 at 05:18
It’s a job. List it.
November 12, 2019 at 19:57
Hi
BritSimon!
Thank you so much for the great, huge work!
As I was trying to read more from this amazing blog of how to deal with DS260 form, somewhere I got stuck
Like I said before, true I lived in some of the middle east countries, till date and due to the nature of work, I keep on moving from province to another, year by year
1.lf I’m filling DS 260 on part of present address and previous ones, do I need to mention each and every military base addresses or I just mention the country, for this case, Afghanistan?
Once again, thank you so much!
November 13, 2019 at 04:34
List your history accurately.
November 12, 2019 at 19:59
Hello Brit
I am DV 2019 Winner and already in the US
My question is: I have paid my GC fee on July 28 2019, and I entered US on October 17. It’s been 3 weeks already, and I haven’t got my GC neither my SSN. Should I wait until November 28 (4 full months since payment) because they say you will receive it within 120 days an on 28th november it will be exactly 120 days, or should I call USCIS?
Please advise,
Thank you. 🙂
November 13, 2019 at 04:35
Payment date is not important. It’s the date when you have paid AND entered. So, for the GC – wait.
For the SSN, you should have that very soon, but if not – go to the SSA office.
