Hi Brit,
I’ve submitted my documents using the same email I filed my DS-260.
But the email I applied for DV2020 was different and that’s where I got the email from KCC where it said to send documents.
My lawyer told me to send the documents using the DS-260 email which I did and I got an automatic reply, but my concern is if I should have sent them from the old email. Or does the sender’s email doesn’t matter?
January 13, 2020 at 00:55
Doesn’t matter.
January 14, 2020 at 15:49

Hi brit
I am dv winner. My interview was in 8 january 2020. And the consular gave us the approval but after the interview I checked my status on
https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx
And it shows my wife (main applicant) and my kids ready and shows me in administrative processing and the last update was in 8 january. Should I worry about that
January 13, 2020 at 13:01
Hello Simon, I’m Tiago Viegas, a portuguese citizen, borned and living in Portugal. Me and my girlfriend, who is from Ucraine, but has the portuguese citizenchip, we will try our luck this year on the Green Card Lottery. My question is, we are thinking to get married, but we don’t know when yet, if we do it in the middle of the process, can you have any problems with that?
January 13, 2020 at 16:57
No problem.
January 13, 2020 at 16:56
Patience. That may change in the next day or two. If it doesn’t then that is “real” AP.
January 13, 2020 at 12:25
Hi Brit, I’m case SA 35**. I submitted all my documents to kcc Sept 2019, inclusive of my high school certifcates, however upon checking my DS260 I realised that I did not enter this info. Should I now unlock?
January 13, 2020 at 16:57
Yes
January 13, 2020 at 17:17
Hi brit
I have sent “submit documents”mail 2 times by mistake. Is it problem?
January 13, 2020 at 17:44
No
January 13, 2020 at 17:23
Hi brit
I wnated to know if it is safe to make food vouchers. I and to usa last in feb.
Thank you
January 13, 2020 at 17:43
Trumps rule about public charge has been blocked for now, but the direction is clear. Using public assistance programs should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. So the question in my mind is why do you need to use food stamps?
January 13, 2020 at 17:34
Hie Brit
My number is AF717** when can I expect to be interviewed?
January 13, 2020 at 17:44
That number is very high so it would be at the end of the processing year.
January 13, 2020 at 17:58
Hi Brit,
My cousin has been selected under DV lottery and has an interview scheduled next month. I have filled out the I-134 form and entered all my personal info (date/place of birth, alien registration number etc.) however for SSN I am planning to write CONFIDENTIAL as it is sensitive info. Is that ok? All other personal info is completed. I am providing letters from my employer with my salary details and bank account statement etc as evidence. Thanks!
January 13, 2020 at 18:17
No it’s not OK. Remember, you are completing a form that says you are willing to support your cousin financially, but you don’t trust that cousin to know your SSN???? That doesn’t make sense.
January 13, 2020 at 18:04
Hi Brit,
My mother’s name on my birth certificate is marreied name (Hakima Ibrahim ALKURDI ),but

January 13, 2020 at 18:17
That doesn’t matter.
January 13, 2020 at 20:55
Where are u kurdi ary from iraq
January 13, 2020 at 20:36
Hello Brite

2.Can I take translater to embassy to
trancelate for me?
What about my document all my document must in my countery
Thank you
January 13, 2020 at 22:22
I’m not certain whether there will be translators at a new embassy. Try to do the interview in English if possible, or check with the embassy about taking a translator.
Your documents will need to be translated to English.
January 13, 2020 at 22:17
hi Mr Brit
i had my DV lottery interview last week and the consular approved my case and he took all the documents from me and said i will get the visa within 2 weeks
but today i received a mail saying :
” Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for your email.
Please let the beneficiary fill out the attached form and send it as word document by email and send us a copy of your passport as well and then we will process the case and let him know the next step.
Please send us all phone numbers you had before in any other country you visited before along with the email address.
Regards,
Consular Staff ”
Although i didn’t send mail for them and they send me a form to fill up saying ” After we receive your answers, we will continue processing your application and will contact you when we have an update. ”
They requested my Personal information / Passport and travel History / Relatives / Address and contact information / Employment History
my question is that ” is this normal procedure and is this means there is a problem with my case or what “
January 13, 2020 at 22:47
I assume they have sent you the DS5535 form. They sometimes expect that to be completed – not always. People who completed the DS260 more recently would already have answered the questions. You obviously completed your DS260 early – before the changes to the form were made and that is why you are being asked those questions.
Complete the form ASAP and return it to the embassy.
Which embassy was that?
January 14, 2020 at 01:22
Hi Simon
Do you advise then to unlock and complete? Just to avoid these situations
AS14k. Already received documents review email. Possibly getting 2nl this month or next month.
January 14, 2020 at 03:19
If you do not go current in the next VB, then yes.
January 14, 2020 at 08:58
Thanks Simon
1-Can I do this before the coming VB?
2-Its very likely even if I become current 2NL will not come? Can I do it then after I become current?
January 14, 2020 at 20:12
Re-read my answer.
January 13, 2020 at 22:38
Hi .I have applied for a dvd lottery in 2019 I’m still waiting for the results in 2020.now my question is about the education.i did my high school in South Africa but my matric results were incomplete due to some subjects that I have failed later went to study for a period of 2years for a cosmetology course in a reputable college where I’ve obtained my ITEC diploma(international diploma)once selected on the winner list on the day of my interview will this be a downfall if I have to tell this truth about my education level will I still obtain my visa
January 13, 2020 at 22:50
I assume you entered the lottery in October/November 2019? The results will be published in May. There is a low chance of selection, so no need to worry about it until you are selected.
January 14, 2020 at 00:19
Hi, Mr. Brit
I have a doubt not sure if submitted and got answered. It is as follow; When i ran for the lottery, 2020, my middle name was wrongly spelled in my passport, (NanjunGo, instead of NanjunJo, WHICH OBVIOUSLY I RAN THE LOTTERY WITH). I went to national registry in my country to correct it, and they have done so throughout my birth Certs and everything else that was with the same mistake; When i filled in the DS260 i have now inserted the correct info according to the new Passport, 1. Was it the correct action? 2. Should i have mentioned in the DS260, like in the field other names used? 3. Last but not least, i could not have the same problem fixed on my school documents as since they said would be a complicated process but everything else matches, like berth dates, national ids number. Plus i have even my old passport from 20 years ago with my correct name as this mistake occurred when i got married. apologies for being that long but just want to make sure this wont hunt me back. Thank you so much
January 14, 2020 at 00:38
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. The difference is why answer number 2 is important.
January 14, 2020 at 02:08
Hello BritSimon. I hope you are well. I have sent the docs via email by request and already went to apply for the police certificate on 22 Nov 2019. In my country, the police certificate will be directly sent to US Consulate within four calender weeks instead of bringing by us. The question is I haven’t received any email from KCC stating that they have received all the documents, I don’t know what now it is up to, should I worry or need more patience? Thankyou.
January 14, 2020 at 03:20
KCC won’t get the police cert – the embassy will, so you should contact KCC and make sure they understand how things work in your country.
January 14, 2020 at 03:28
Got it, thanks Brit
January 15, 2020 at 02:13

January 15, 2020 at 08:21

Yes, I am interested to join the group chat. My email address is: [email protected]
Thankyou.
January 14, 2020 at 02:49
Hi Simon
I requested kcc to unlock ds260 After your advice to unlock old ds260 to add social media part for high risk countries
So i received a replay as to explain the reason for unlock and i replied with the exact reason
The second email from kcc was the typical email indicating no need to unlock to add social media information if the forms were filled prior to xxx
So i guess, i am stuck with the old forms unless you advice a different approach to request for unlock
Thanks
January 14, 2020 at 03:21
Just ask them to unlock. No need to explain why.
January 14, 2020 at 07:22
Nowadays, KCC always ask the reason for unlocking the ds and if not provided, they do not unlock
January 14, 2020 at 15:18
Nonsense.
January 14, 2020 at 03:16
Hello Brit Simon,
My cn is EU348**, when can i expect having an interview? Thanks a lot in advance for your reply!
January 14, 2020 at 03:22
I don’t know. Wait and see.
January 14, 2020 at 05:19
I scanned documents with a blue effect and sent to KCC. This may be a problem in the future, my number is big
January 14, 2020 at 05:34
I have no idea what you mean about a blue affect.
January 14, 2020 at 07:28
very similar to black and white
January 14, 2020 at 16:42
OK – so that should not cause a problem on a monochrome original.
January 14, 2020 at 08:53
Hi Brit;
First of all, I would like to say thanks for your time. I am the winner DV-2020 from Ethiopia, I was completed my second level high school education with 10+3 Vocational training plus Academic subjects at regular session(in day) and also I was took Grade 12 National Exam, that was given at national level through out the Ethiopian for entrance of University and College. Then I was joined a college and graduated from that college with BSc in Software Engineering.
After this I want to raise some questions based on these and I want your feedback/response, Q1. what will be my case from your past and current experience?
Q2. In what way, the Consular Officer will take my high school education level; as 10+3 Vocational training or Else Academic study equivalent with US Academic study(GED).
Q3. In what way, the Consular Officer will see my BSc in Software Engineering; as supporting document to get VISA.
Please give me your feedback/response ASAP. Your feedback help me for my interview schedule for Feb-05/2020.
January 14, 2020 at 16:46
1. With all that education you can come up with a more precise question that that one.
2. Vocational training is not considered. BUT I don’t know the system in Eithiopia.
3. That will help, of course.
The CO will evaluate your education as a whole. I doubt there will be a problem.
January 14, 2020 at 10:51

January 14, 2020 at 23:03
Your timeline depends on your case number, and when you submit the DS260 and documents.
January 14, 2020 at 23:13
I will submit the documents this thursday after tomorrow to kccdocuments, how long would it take after that? I submitted my ds260 10 days ago , my case number: 2020AF00061xxx
January 14, 2020 at 11:22
Hi dear BritSimon.
When i was filling DS260 in November i fill BSc degree with a job title of assistance lecture in a certain university. but 6 months ago i have got my masters degree and working with a job title of lecturer. But i cant afford to pay for my original masters degree that is why i didn’t fill the form with my masters degree
My question is i filled DS260 form in Bsc degree and working as assistant lecture till the day i filled DS260 which is in November. but now my work experience says 2 years of work experience as assistant lecture and 6 month of work experience as lecturer. so the difference between current work experience and DS260 form can really affect chance of getting visa? Thanks for your answer
Note; i have got late January interview
January 14, 2020 at 23:04
I don’t see a problem.
January 14, 2020 at 12:01
HI Brit, i was going through the xarthisius data charts and noted something curious. Some cases comprises of ready and refused entries, does that means some family members under the same case were issued and others denied? If so, what are the circumstances leading to such. (Kindly provide a link if you have previously addressed such a query)
January 14, 2020 at 23:18
No curious at all. If the principal is denied, all derivatives are also denied (although sometimes not updated in CEAC).
If a derivative however is ineligible the principal may get approved but not the derivative. The reason could be things like being banned for an overstay, crimes etc.
January 17, 2020 at 11:43
Thank you….clearly understood
January 14, 2020 at 12:16
HI SIMON
I previously asked you what should I do because my daughter got married a few days ago and you advised me to contact kcc and this is their answer ;
Your answers on the DS-260 application should be as accurate as possible in order to minimize the potential for confusion and delay in your case. Once submitted, a DS-260 cannot be deleted or removed. If there is an error in your DS-260 application form or if you need to make changes, the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) can unlock the form for you so that you can make any changes required. If you would like us to unlock one or more forms in your case, please reply to this address, including your case number, date of birth (MMDDYYYY) and the names of the applicants whose forms you would like us to unlock, and an explanation as to why you need the DS-260 unlocked.
Once unlocked, if you would like for KCC to process your application, you must resubmit it. A DS-260 will not continue processing unless it is re-submitted. Unlocking an application is the only way to make changes, or to prevent a form from being processed.
what do you think ???
January 14, 2020 at 23:19
Their reply is very clear.
January 14, 2020 at 13:05
Hi,
When my sponsor can take the report for taxes for fiscal year 2019 in US, which I will need in the supporting documents of I-134 ?
January 14, 2020 at 23:20
Taxes are normally reported between January and April.
January 14, 2020 at 14:32
Hello Brit,
Please what is the “visa interview appointment letter” ?
January 14, 2020 at 23:21
Seems self explanatory.
January 14, 2020 at 16:03
2nl is interview letter
January 14, 2020 at 16:31
Hello Brit,
I have submitted all my documents to KCC in english except two documents “POLICE CERTIFICATES” That I submitted in the official language of the embassy “Arabic” where i’m going to be interviewed
should i translate to english and send again? or the official language for the embassy’s country is sufficient?
January 14, 2020 at 23:26
Their request explains that precisely.

January 14, 2020 at 19:29
Hi Brit,
My case number is 2020EU47xxx. I already sent my documents on 24 October 2019. When do you think my interview will be? Thank you kindly.
January 14, 2020 at 23:27
Months to wait yet. Wait and see.
January 14, 2020 at 20:16
Hi Brit,
I have moved to USA in 2019 as a DV winner. My Girlfriend is in my home country. I’m planning to get married on this year and apply visa for her as my spouse. Will it be OK. Else what should be the easiest and quickest way to get visa for her. Thanks in advance.
January 15, 2020 at 03:53
That will be OK – it takes about 2 years.
January 14, 2020 at 21:03
Hello
I’m going to the Work and Travel program in May. But…
I am the winner of the dv2020 EU47xxx . If my number is current August / September. Do I have to go back for an interview in the my country or can I end up in the USA? Thanks and regards
January 15, 2020 at 03:56
Depending on the non immigrant visa you have, there can be a risk to the DV case if you enter the USA with an intention to adjust status. So – be very careful. Consular processing might be safer.
January 15, 2020 at 07:01
You recommend that I do not go to work and travel this year, that I hope the number will be current. Do you think it’s safer?
January 15, 2020 at 17:40
I didn’t say any of that. You can process CP by flying home.
January 14, 2020 at 22:21
Hi brit
A month ago I asked KCC to change the location of the interview from Yemen to Saudi Arabia and attached a copy of the visa and the entry stamp to Saudi Arabia and the location of the interview was changed, but they asked me to update my new address in Saudi Arabia in the DS260 form, and now I returned again to Yemen to change the type of visa and re-enter to Saudi Arabia After a month,
So what address should I write in the form??
Note that I have an address in Saudi Arabia and an address in Yemen, but I am afraid to write my address in Yemen again and the location of the interview will be changed to Yemen again.
January 15, 2020 at 03:57
Yemen embassy is closed, so they won’t schedule you there regardless.
January 15, 2020 at 10:03
Yes i knew it is closed,so they transfer all interviews to US embassy in djibouti, that is a reason why i want change the location,so now i want to know what address should write in ds260??
Note that i have been submitted my ds260 two month ago,and i re-open it this month after KCC asking me to update my address, because i was write my address in yemen before i traveld to saudi.
January 15, 2020 at 17:46
So – its currently got an address that will mean an interview in SA – is that correct? So leave it alone!
January 14, 2020 at 22:57
Hello Brit, please help me with some concerns:
1. my case number is EU394XX which means as you said in another comment that probably will be current in June/July, my passport is going to expire in March/2021 and I would like to know if I will get to the interview in August probably and I will get the visa, when I will get to enter into the States ( thinking around October) do I need to have the passport available for at least 6 months at the time of entry or that rule does not apply anymore after you entered as a legal allien?
2. I don’t intend to stay till March in US so I will change it when will expire in my home country, will that affect my re-entry in the US ?
3. If I will not stay out of the US for more than a year, do I have to file form Form I-131 ?
Thanks in advance Brit !
January 15, 2020 at 03:58
1. Having a new passport before the interview would save some hassle later.
2. See 1.
3. No.
January 15, 2020 at 00:16
Hello Brit..
I am AF32*** and Following the the Visa bulletin updates I think my case will be current soon but KCC hasn’t emailed me for documents yet…
Q) should I email kcc and ask whether I should send documents ??
January 15, 2020 at 00:21
Yes.
January 15, 2020 at 05:47
Good morning Mr Brit, once again I wish to thank you for another marvelous advice you happily offered which has worked out immensely for me.
It’s all about my dv appointment interview which was canceled in November 2019 in Ghana and rescheduling wasn’t forthcoming and when I reported , you urged me to go the the embassy for further clarifications and upon carrying out your good advice , I must say things have worked out perfectly and I have been given first week of February 2020 for my interview appointment date.
Once again may your God keep you safe at all times .
January 15, 2020 at 05:58
Great news!
January 15, 2020 at 10:20
We thank God … but bro I will also like to make some enquiries from you…. how much did your medical cost and where did you do it please ?
January 15, 2020 at 07:04
Hello Sir. Thanks again in advance. I wanted to know if part-time university classes is accepted as a degree. The university is well known by the U.S
January 15, 2020 at 07:18
It is a properly degree but its part-time bachelor. Also specified in documents
January 15, 2020 at 17:41
A degree is a degree. How you studied for it is not relevant.
January 15, 2020 at 08:02
Hi Brit, Thank you for every help that you render to all. I requested the Kcc to unlock my application and they did sent me email that it’s unlocked. I sent around d three times and they also unlocked as requested but every time I tried to change my interview location, the page with interview location is not able to change it. So, my worry is that, will there be affect for my interview schedule from embassy. Or is it okay to take the application without changing it. Thanks
January 15, 2020 at 17:43
Once the DS260 has been submitted for the first time, the applicant cannot change the embassy selection. Only KCC can do that. They normally arrange embassies based on the current address in the DS260 UNLESS you have agreed something else with them.
January 15, 2020 at 13:19
Hello sir
My number is 154..EU I haven’t received the confirmation email from kcc yet.

Hello Mr.Brit,
First I would like to thank you for this amazing blog which gives a whole lot of information about green card procedure. I have a problem with Wife’s name in the process and would be grateful if you share your opinion in this matter.
My wife won the DV2020 and her name in her birth certificate is “xxxxxxx Dona”. But her passport biographic page is printed with her name as “xxxxxxx Don”. Later in passport alterations page it was corrected as “xxxxxxx Dona”.
We are from Sri Lanka and local documents(birth, marriage, police certificates) have used the name as “xxxxxxx Dona”.
She was studying in UK and in her degree certificates and other documents(Residence permit, Driving License) they have used the name in the passport biographic page which is “xxxxxxx Don”. Because of this reason in our greencard application process we have used the name as “xxxxxxx Don”.
1) Should we proceed with the name as “xxxxxxx Don” in DS-260 and provide an affidavit stating that both names represent the same person.
2) Should we change the name in DS-260 from “xxxxxxx Don” to “xxxxxxx Dona” and provide an affidavit stating that both names represent the same person.
Will this be a major issue in processing our case?
Thank you very much.
Sean

The name in the DS260 should be the correct legal name (Dona). However, the form also has another section for other names used – there you can list Don.

Dear Simon,
Regarding to social media Question… I selected the platforms (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) and I put the Account name like for example my account on FACEBOOK name “Ahmad belal ” but I heard from people that I should put the link of the account. So do I have to open DS to do that .

Hi Brit,
Thanks for always providing valuable advice.
I am case AF33K . In ds my place of interview is Nairobi and current address is in Europe because I relocated to Europe after filing my application. My case should be current in February and I plan to go to Kenya end of February for my interview. Will I have to unlock the ds form to change my current address to Kenya when I travel because my case will be current by then and I don’t want to cause delays for interview.
Thanks.
January 15, 2020 at 18:46
You need to let KCC know that you will be relocating and want the interview in your home country.

Thanks a lot Brit. I have emailed KCC.

Hello brit
Have you heard about those cases that were refused.
Is that a technical issue or something else?
March 6, 2020 at 20:54
I think there is a technical issue.
