Hi Britsimon
I am dv 2020 winner AF25XXX
Completed ds 260 form and submitted required documents in February.
Received notification that indicates i am ready for interview March 2.
I was expecting to get 2NL at the end of March for May interview, but i didn’t get it.
Initially i thought the delay is due to covid-19 crisis but some people are getting it though embassies are not working for dv process.
So do u think February was jot enough for may interview?
Or the congratulation letter was mistake and they are not satisfied with the docs.
Thanks

No need to keep asking the same question.

Hi Simmons.
I had my interview in August 5 of 2019. I failed to present an international police certificate. I had no time to present it before Sep. 30. Eventually I could get it and present it 3 months later. When I went to hand it over I was told that my case could be passed over for the next year. 2020 I understood that I had to do everything again, That it means I have to reapply and do a new suscription to the DV lottery this year?
Thanks a lot
April 13, 2020 at 02:55
It means your case is finished. You would need to be selected again.
April 17, 2020 at 04:34
is there more chances of winning next year considering that you won once and your case was not approved under section 221g. missing document?
April 17, 2020 at 04:36
No.
April 13, 2020 at 08:14

Hi Brit,
I’m a DV Selectee from Germany and I’m about to submit my DS form.
1. From Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 I lived in the US for a Traineeship. Do I have to get a US police certificate? If so, how do I get it from here?
2. Is it possible to save the DS form in between?
Thank you!
April 13, 2020 at 15:00
1. No.
2. Yes
April 13, 2020 at 09:40
I just finished reading your DS260 guide and two more questions came up:
1. I was subleasing three rooms in apartments when living the US and lived in a dorm. Do I really have to add each address to my DS260? I honestly don’t remember the exact addresses anymore.
2. I’m currently working as a temp worker for a tech company. I’m considered as part of the “extended workforce”. Do I have to add the address of my agency in the employer field or the client (tech company) I’m working for? It can be a little confusing as my agency is located in another city (far away from the one I live in). But I’m not officially contracted by the tech company. What to do here?
April 13, 2020 at 15:03
1. Use your best effort and some common sense.
2. Agency address.

April 13, 2020 at 23:19
The decision to reopen the embassies may be central OR local. There is no decision on that at this time – so wait and see what happens. How things will restart once that happens – I don’t know.
April 14, 2020 at 04:04
Any chances to publish visa bulletin this week sir
April 14, 2020 at 14:30
Yes
April 14, 2020 at 09:55
What if I forgot the email I used in the application process and I might not have access to it anymore?
Do I have to receive any communication from the DV lottery?
April 14, 2020 at 14:32
No – you can give them another email address in the DS260
April 14, 2020 at 12:49
Hi Brit. I won the DV-2020 Greencard Lottery, went for my interview in February 2020 and currently have an active DV-1 visa until August 2020. What advice/knowledge do you have on this at the moment with the pandemic if I’m unable to travel before the expiry of my visa.

Hi BritSimon,
Hope you are keeping up well during these hard times and hope you are safe.
I’m an LPR, activated my visa last year and came back to my home country, looking for jobs in US and trying to find a city to move. Right now my absence is between 6 months and 1 year (getting closer to the 1 year mark) We still have flight to US as of today and technically speaking I should be able to move to States before my GC (sort of) expires. However now that the SSA offices are closed, I’m not able to get SSN (never received the card in the address I have provided but my GC was delivered), therefore I can not start working (as far as I can understand it’s required) Waiting and applying for SB-1 will not be cost effective for me and I’m afraid that it might not be approved because I spent 3-4 days in US while I was activating my status, don’t have any ties to US apart from my GC. I don’t wish to be unemployed when I move permanently (no income and no insurance sound really scary to me to me right now) So what are my options here?
Do you think SSA offices will reopen in the next few months?
If not, can I actually start working somewhere and apply for SSN when the offices have opened? Or do I absolutely need the SSN prior to my start date? (I’m planning to ask this during interviews but I don’t want to eliminiate my chances of getting a job)
Thanks in advance adn have a wonderful day.
April 14, 2020 at 18:11
You can contact the SSA by phone and ask about your SSN number. I don’t know when they will reopen the offices to the public, but you should be able to get help online/by phone.
April 15, 2020 at 03:19
We have the same issue, and called them. Only way to get your SSN is to go to the local office, but they are closed, so there is no other way.
April 15, 2020 at 10:19
Dear Brit,
I hope the pandemic ends as soon as possible.
An unofficial source says that the Us Embassy in Albania will continue working at the begining of May.
If we get the visas soon, will they be valid for 6 months?
Thank you in advance for your reply.
April 15, 2020 at 10:56
Hey Britt. Here in Albania, the embassy sent emails to people who had the interview in May to record their date of the meeting.
And a question please opening the embassy depends on the state where we live or on the US State Department?
April 15, 2020 at 18:32
Hello Dorela,
Did you get an official email about the date of reschedule?
Because my date of interview was on 17 of March and still didn’t get an email about rescheduling.
I’m Albanian too.
Thank you in advance for you reply
April 15, 2020 at 15:23
They are valid for 6 months after the medical.
April 15, 2020 at 18:28
I have already finished the medical examination on 9th of March and I was told by the physician that he will send it directly to the embassy.
So should I start counting from this date?
Ps:The embassy cancelled interviews on 17 of March,on my interview date.
I think they will continue interview by order.
Is it true?
Thank you in advance!

Hi Sir can you please guide me on this……
I have a passport that’s actually not going to get expired untill few years later since it’s new but it has a birthplace mistake that I’m going to get fixed but still can’t due to the covid19 lockdown ?
The thing is I used that passport to apply the dv lottery but :
1- Should I still use the same passport to apply the DS260 , while i get it corrected?
2- If i so how do i deal with ?? after i corrected it ?? I send kcc an email ???
3- I should correct it before I apply the ds260 ?
April 15, 2020 at 15:30
You don’t have a lot of time left, so apply with the passport you have.

April 15, 2020 at 16:43
Record? Do you mean reschedule?
The DoS may give central guidance to the embassies to reopen, or to reopen only if local conditions allow. We don’t know yet.
April 15, 2020 at 17:05
Yes rescheduled sorry ?
April 15, 2020 at 17:14
Hi Dorela,

Hi Brit,
OC3XX
I received my appointment time on March 19th, with appointment scheduled for early May, before they subsequently cancelled all appointments.
I have been in touch with the London Consulate (where the appointment was scheduled) relating to any update and they sent a long generic response which says that all appointments have been cancelled but also included one paragraph stating to check my Visa Appointment Service account for up to date information on my appointment.
My VAS account states to “Attend Appointment”. I’m not sure which is applicable; that all appointments are cancelled or that mine is scheduled to go ahead.
Do you have any knowledge on the situation?
Thanks
April 15, 2020 at 20:11
Embassies are closed for non ESSENTIAL appointments. At some point they will begin to reschedule appointments. When they do, appointments will probably be bookable in their appointment systems, such as VAS. But, they *may* proactively contact you to reschedule – obviously we don’t know for sure.

Hi Simon Greetings !
I came here in late Dec 2019 .
And work for 3-4 months ..
Am I eligible for Trump’s Economic Impact payment plan ?
One of mine friend told me that I can get $1200 .I think it’s for those having A complete tax file ,Right ?
April 15, 2020 at 23:53
I’m not 100% sure, but mostly its about people who filed a tax return in 2018 & 2019. However, some people on certain benefits may get payments also.
April 16, 2020 at 16:10

Hello,
Hope you are doing well.
I’m the winner of GreenCard Lottery with my family (my husband and daughter) and our visa will expires in May 18, 2020.
We had to travel on April 18, but we don’t feel safety because of Corona Virus.
My question is, should we take the risk and travel to Usa (if the state will be open ) or is there any possibility to continue the immigration visa after expires?
Thank You

April 17, 2020 at 15:04
Hi Brit,
Just in case you don’t know yet, DV-2021 results are going to be postponed as you can see from here:
https://twitter.com/TravelGov/status/1249831272815439873
“We are postponing the opening of the Entrant Status Check for DV-2021 applicants to June 6, 2020. The delayed opening will not negatively impact our ability to pre-process and schedule DV-2021 interviews, which are scheduled to begin on October 1, 2020.”
April 17, 2020 at 17:54
June 6 is a Saturday, I do not think if it is true I believe in this publication
April 17, 2020 at 22:46
I have seen that yes. It’s not an official announcement yet, although it is from a reliable source, so I do expect it to be confirmed in the coming days.

Hi sir
My highest education level is “college like” i have an ASSOCIATE DEGREE EQUIVALENT i also have a VOCATIONAL DIPLOMA from highschool.
So my question is do I have to prove only my associate associate degree or i also have to prove my vocational diploma ?
April 16, 2020 at 17:26
Read this:
https://britsimonsays.com/education-or-work-experience-qualifying-for-the-dv-lottery/
April 16, 2020 at 12:57
Hir sir please can you enlighten me with this part ??
I attended 2 highschools before earning my associate degree in a college like.
The 1st high school is general till 9th grade but the 2nd one is vocational high school from 10th to 12th grade ( wich is where I earned a diploma )
My question is should I mention 3 institutions ?? Or just the 2 recent ones ?
April 16, 2020 at 14:09
Dear Brit,
I look through the travel.state.gov EU visa bulletin numbers for October-April, there I see Nov numbers not 6,000, as you have filled, but 8,600, and the data is till April, while you have filled the data till May. As I understand, each month they publish the next month visa bulletin numbers, such as in March they published April visa bulletin numbers. However, you have posted in March, that May visa bulletin numbers have been published. If the visa bulletin numbers are for May, doesn’t it mean that those numbers would be current on May? While in CEAC data I see that those numbers are already current, some ready (if COVID-19 did not happen, a lot of cases would be already issued).
April 16, 2020 at 17:31
Your understanding is incorrect.
The next VB will probably be published tomorrow (in APRIL)
It will be called the MAY visa bulletin.
It will give numbers for JUNE interviews.
April 16, 2020 at 18:08
will the coronavirus anyhow affect the DV-2021?
April 17, 2020 at 00:42
We will have to wait and see. I can’t predict what will happen with the pandemic.
April 16, 2020 at 19:37
Hello Mr. Simon,
I have tried reaching you before on your website, please reply me asap, I have received an email by the end of March from USA Foreign Immigration Services, that has given me a user number and asked about missing information
stated as following;
“We have been trying to reach you but we were unsuccessful.
Our department would like to contact you as soon as possible, in order to assist you with starting your process.
It is important that you reply to this email after filling in your missing information”
note: I have applied for DV lottery 2021
Does that mean that I won the lottery? they haven’t contacted me since then, what should I do?
April 17, 2020 at 00:45
It’s a scam. No winners have been announced for DV2021 – this organization is simply trying to rip you off.
April 17, 2020 at 09:34
Dear Brit,
We were already scheduled for April interview. But it got cancelled due to the virus. My spouse (derivative applicant) resides in the States on L1 visa. Do you think it would make sense if he applied through USCIS now?
And even if they reopen the embassy in our local country, he might not be able to travel due to the Pandemic.
Which option is faster: through consulate service or through USCIS? Thanks.
And I know nobody knows the answer, but how do you assess our chances. Is it 50/50 that we will lose the opportunity?
April 17, 2020 at 22:43
No- he cannot apply on his own because he is the derivative applicant.
I’m not going to guess chances.
April 17, 2020 at 12:39
Hi Brit, i won the lottery dv 2020 in Albania and my interview is scheduled for 21th april. Till now I haven’t recived an email or a phone call if my interview is canceled or not. What can I do? Should I present at the embassy at 21th April?
Thank you
April 17, 2020 at 22:44
You should contact the embassy.
April 17, 2020 at 12:50
Hello Brit,
My family’s dream is to live in the United States and our only way to do that is to win the lottery
Do you know anything about the next registration?
Thank you
April 17, 2020 at 22:45
Registration is due to start in October. The precise dates will be announced in September. However, it is a lottery with a small chance of winning.
April 17, 2020 at 16:02
will the next visa bulletin be published?
April 17, 2020 at 22:47
Unless the world ends, yes.
April 17, 2020 at 17:15
I see in Twitter.
Is it true We?

Hello Brit Simon. My husband won green card in 2016.and we send DS – 260. We called in 2017 to consulate. We did not go. My question is may we again apply for the green card lottery?
April 17, 2020 at 22:48
Yes
April 18, 2020 at 09:22
hello thanks the answers they are really helpful
April 18, 2020 at 10:53
Hi dear Britsimon . First I would like to thank your support and commitment ❤️ . I want to ask 2 questions:
1. As University student who is not yet graduated but near to graduate . Can I Mark as having becholar degree. Or I have to mark the high school certificate that I have take 5 years ago.
2. I am fifth year medical student , and Will graduate 2022 , so I am in doubt whether to apply this dvd lottery this October or next year . So my question is if I apply, get won the lottery and the all process including interview ,is it compulsory to fly US that time or you can stay one more year your home country ( because our University , after graduation they will not give you certificate and transcript unless you do one year internship after graduation). Thank you for your great advice
April 18, 2020 at 15:11
1. Just the truth.
2. You need to win first – and your chance of selection is once every 200 years. So no need to plan. Just enter, and if you win, plan.
April 18, 2020 at 13:00
Hi Simon,
We won DV for FY 2019 and did our activation trip on November 2019 and went back home (Morocco) to deal with administrative stuff. The plan is to move to the US next July.
My questions:
1- Do we need to file tax forms for 2019?
2- Is there any resources to help new immigrants to educate themselves about tax system especially for the 1st year?
BTW good news, IRS extended the deadline for filing tax from April 15 to July 15: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/tax-day-now-july-15-treasury-irs-extend-filing-deadline-and-federal-tax-payments-regardless-of-amount-owed
April 18, 2020 at 15:12
1, Yes
2. Not that I know of.
April 18, 2020 at 15:51
US income taxes are complicated. For 100-150 usd you can hire a tax service to complete and file your income taxes. I reccomend doing this to avoid future problems with the tax authority.
April 19, 2020 at 01:12
Hi Aaron,
Thank you ! Do you know any reliable services that I can contact online?
Have a nice and safe weekend.
April 19, 2020 at 01:37
Casa,
In my opinion it is best to use a local accounting or tax firm. However, if you are not in the USA you could use an online service like H&R Block. If your income is below a certain amount the basic federal filing should be free. You may want to pay a little extra for a personal consult (telephone consult)or something like this.
Good luck to you.
April 18, 2020 at 16:28
There’s been a couple of questions on DV winners’ Tax filing
On that subject – is there a rule of thumb or a process winners are required to follow in terms of when to START filing taxes when you are GRANTED the Visa and you have then ACTIVATED the visa within the required 6 months of the grant
Lets assume you go and activate the visa, return and take up to a FULL YEAR before returning to the US, then lets assume you then get a re-entry permit at that point too !
When ought you / SHOULD YOU start filing tax?
As above – lets also assume that you get a re-entry permit, so you’ve extended the maximum time possible generally
Essentially – What is the rule of tax filing for a new DV LPR winner/ or rule of thumb in terms of dates / new tax filing timing / when you NEED TO START / the process of new filing / the requirements for a new DV LPR winner in timing of filing?
April 18, 2020 at 21:03
The DAY you enter the USA you become an LPR. You are then required to file for that year (usually by April the following year – but extended this year to July). There is an allowance for foreign income.
April 18, 2020 at 18:27
Hi Brit,
I started filling out my DS260 and got confused by the first questionm which was: “Based on your contry of residence at the time you submitted your DV lottery entry, you are currently residing in the US. Do you want to adjust status without leaving the United States?”. The answer options are: “yes, send my case to USCIS” OR “No, I want to return abroad and be interviewed in XXX”
Yes, when I applied for the DV lottery, I was in the US on a J1 Exchange Visitor Visa. But as I knew that I would leave in three more months from the moment I submitted my lottery entry, I decided to put in my home address into the DV form and even in my Entrant Status Check it shows my actual home address in my country on the top left. What did go wrong here? I’m really concerned and can’t explain how this has happened. Do you know why they would assume that I’m still in the US?
Thank you!
April 18, 2020 at 21:05
Why are you worrying about that? Forget it.
April 18, 2020 at 21:37
I’m wondering how this has happened. I’m worrying about it because I don’t want them to think I lied on anything when submitting my lottery application. I mean at that time I lived in the US but only on a temorary basis. Do you have any idea how this could’ve happened? It’s actually pretty confusing to me.
April 18, 2020 at 21:56
I’m sorry, I think I remember how this must’ve happened. When submitting the DV2020 lottery entry they asked if the submitter is currently in the US. I replied with “yes” because at that time I was in the US, even though it was only on a temporary basis. I tried to be as accurate as possible and hope that this should be fine/they won’t be asking further questions on that.
April 19, 2020 at 00:08
Like I said. Worrying for nothing.
April 19, 2020 at 07:20
Any idea when will the VB for May be updated?
April 19, 2020 at 12:16
Monday would be my guess.
April 19, 2020 at 09:11
Will the dv 2021 results going to be announced on the 5th of May?

April 19, 2020 at 12:17
Hello Brit. you said in one of your replies that September interviews(2020)are scheduled mid July…..and that the delays we have will obviously have an impact.my question is what type of impact?will it be possitive impact on those who are not current or a negative impact
April 19, 2020 at 14:41
Hey Brit
Do you think DOS will give some news or information in the next days/week about dv2020? All of us are waiting and we would like to know what will happen with our process.
Unfortunately how OMS said the virus don’t end until a vaccine will be found.
So I think DOS should take a decision about dv lottery: continuing (with some differences as increase the visa on passport at least for 1 year instead of 6 month or doing online interview) or stopping the whole process.
April 19, 2020 at 15:20
DOS won’t make either of the decisions you suggest. These things are controlled by laws, not what you or I might think.
April 19, 2020 at 15:20
Hello Brit
I hope you’re good ,I’m winner dv2020 case number 38k Europe what it’s gonna happen with me should i have any chance to get interview this year I emphasize that I have yet received confirm of my documents and when they gonna publiched next visa bulletin?
April 19, 2020 at 15:24
I have not yet received confirmation*
April 19, 2020 at 20:52
I think the VB will be published tomorrow (Monday in the USA.)
As for what will happen – it is not possible to predict. The embassy closures due to the pandemic will obviously have an effect. All you can do is wait and see.
April 19, 2020 at 21:21
Thanks
but i have my opinion they need to postpone the processing of dv 2020 like Not until 30 september but until end year because this chance comes only once in a life I think
Nobody it’s not guilty about covid 19
It’s ok to postpone the process but not finish that here
I hope this pandemic will end and everything’s gonna be ok again

It’s not a matter of opinion, yours or anyone elses. The timelines are established by law. They would have to change the law to change the September 30th date – and quite frankly there are bigger things for the politicians to focus on – like the 22 MILLION people who just lost their jobs in the last few weeks.

1. Some embassies have started rescheduling, BUT obviously some of those interviews could be cancelled again, depending on the pandemic impact in each country.
2. It is not possible to predict.

Hi, Now we don’t know what’s going to happen DV2020 because of the virus but I need your help,Sir! My case number is 2020AS24xxx.
I am currently in US and I chose CP process. When my interview is scheduled in my country, I have to go back to my country. I was thinking right after going back to my country, I ask KCC to unlock my Ds260 to update my new address but as I see FAQ, they won’t unlock my DS260 after my interview is scheduled..then how can I do to update about my address?
Thanks in advance!

You are incorrect. It is easier and wise to unlock BEFORE you are scheduled. However, at the moment the VB numbers are not published and we don’t know when embassies will be able to restart interviews.

Good day Simon.
Question : I am a para legal – majority of my work is property conveyancing zone is 3 but very closely related to real estate broker work zoned as four. I am applying for the DV under work experience. I will expound clearly just how much similar the work is. Do i print out both zones to take to the interview should i have been successfully picked. I live in Harare, Zimbabwe.
thank you,
April 20, 2020 at 15:32
Your focus should be on trying to show how your job matches to a qualifying job – although in USA terms a real estate broker is quite different to a paralegal conveyancer (title company). A real estate broker in the USA is registered job that requires specific training/experience/licensing. To say a paralegal doing conveyancing is a real estate broker is like saying an accounting clerk is the same as a CPA. That is just not true – and unlikely to be accepted.

My interview was in april 22 and due to covid 19 embassy is closed so when i contancted embassy today they said service related to dv are closed.so they may reschedule anytime. My condition
1.i did my medical and IOM said i have to do furthur test for tb that might take 2 month for report.
My question
1.can i do the interview if my interview date is before the result of medical.is it possible.and wait for medical report
2.or is it better to postpond the interview date till the report of medical report.
I have done many test in hospital recently they said u cant have any tb for sure..so can you help me with your experience.i am so concerned about the time of dv processing due to ongoing covid.
April 20, 2020 at 15:35
Some embassies won’t allow that. They typically want the medical done before the interview, and then they place you on AP while waiting for TB results. You can email the embassy.
