Hi Mr Brit
I have a concern about the ds260 form of my child…he’s 2 years old and obviously he cannot complete the form by himself, so at the moment of sign it, should be indicated that he received help?
Also, the e-signature should be with his passport number or mine?
June 16, 2020 at 22:33
Of course they expect a parent to do this for the child.

Hi Brit,
When will I be required to submit my documents. I already submitted my DS260 form I am just wondering if I was to submit my documents as part of the DS260 or I have to wait for instructions from KCC to submit them.
Thanks
June 16, 2020 at 22:36
Documents are sent after the DS260 – you can wait for the email or send them without being asked, but you need to use some logic to thinking about case numbers.
June 17, 2020 at 12:40
Hi Mr. Brit!!
I have an issue here. I used my uncle’s name as my sponsor on the DS260, but right now I tried getting in touch with him to send the Affidavit of Support, I am not getting him at all.
My question is, should I use another person as my sponsor to send me the Affidavit of Support, which I already have, and if yes, how can I address that at the interview? I have called KCC and they said that my case is on their file ready to be sent to my embassy for interview as soon as the embassy reopens in my country.
I need your advice, please!!
Thanks
June 17, 2020 at 18:00
You can get an I-134 from someone else – yes.

Hi Birt,
My husband is the DV2021 winner In Asia . After we submitted DS260 , we found that my daughter (age 10) Passport will be expired in May 2021.
Q: shall we get her a new passport now, then unlock the DS 260 for updating the new passport detail? ( we are worrying it will push our queuing at the end as our case number is 29xxx).
Or
Q: shall we only update the passport info after receiving the KCC email to ask us scan & email the document Or until we have interview ?
Appreciate your advise!
June 17, 2020 at 17:40
You have a LONG time to wait and updating that passport won’t make any difference to the wait time.

Hello, BritSimon. How does someone go about applying for a job in America from overseas (Europe) so they can get a job offer and prove they won’t be a public charge?
Thank you.
June 16, 2020 at 22:47
In general that is a huge waste of time. Unless you have very in demand and well known skillsets you generally won’t get a job offer without being in the country.
June 16, 2020 at 21:03
Hi Sir,
I hope all is well,
If i am lawful permament resident but outside of USA right now,can i receive a covid stimulus check?
June 16, 2020 at 22:48
I hope not. That would be dishonest wouldn’t it.
June 16, 2020 at 21:27
Hi brit. Can someone have two US support because we’re four in my family?
June 16, 2020 at 22:52
No. One I-134.
June 16, 2020 at 21:27
Hi simon
my two were born in USA and got american passports while we were there with B1/B2 visa 8 ys ago . Delivery was covered by medicare. i won this year in 2021 lottery.
i am worried during the interview if this will be a point that they will stress on ( abusing the system) although we paid during the second delivery but they refunded back for no reason. any idea how to handle
thx

Hello BritSimon,
one of girlfriends parent won dv, (she is under 21) what is the easiest way for me to go to USA with them?
June 16, 2020 at 23:00
It’s not “easy”. She must not marry before getting her GC – but once she has the GC she could marry you, then sponsor you for a GC which takes about 2 years.
June 16, 2020 at 22:24
What is the procedure to change visa interview location after submitted ?
June 16, 2020 at 23:02
Covered in the FAQ – please read it.
June 16, 2020 at 22:50
Hi Mr Brit,
I’m with three kids and can I apply for the upcoming lottery with them and my Mum?
June 16, 2020 at 23:02
You can apply, but you cannot include parents.
June 16, 2020 at 23:08
Hi Simon.
Someone said once, that some embassy has planned a visa appointment on June 22nd. I guess it was Kuwait? Do you think it’s real and we still have a chance? I sent an email to DOS, but they obviously ignored me. This awaiting and uncertainity will kill us one day…
June 17, 2020 at 02:30
Those interviews were cancelled. Waiting is hard, but its what you must do.
June 16, 2020 at 23:11
Hello Brit please if one visa get expired and you are to renew it are you to do a interview again or not.
June 17, 2020 at 02:30
That is up to the embassy.
June 16, 2020 at 23:44
Hi Mr Brit
Please what is the exact date the dv2021 starts registering
June 17, 2020 at 02:32
Explain more clearly.
June 16, 2020 at 23:55
Hi Brit is Dv visa the same as H1b visa ??
June 17, 2020 at 02:34
No
June 17, 2020 at 00:09
Hello Britsimon!
We are dv lottery 2021 winners. Today I have sent an email to KCC to unlock the DS260 but I have 3 questions:
1- Is it possible to change the location of interview from Egypt to Sweden? And how?
2- We are originally from Egypt but we live in Sweden and I am a Swedish citizen but I need your advice, is it better to fo the interview in Egypt or in Sweden? I have heard that the Embassy in Sweden are not used to process DV cases and that can cause confusions or problems. Fo you believe in that?
3-The thing is that my wife who is the winner has a permanent residence in Sweden has get her US visa rejected at the US embassy in Stockholm as well one try in Dubai and 2 times in Egypt. As well our DV case in 2017 been disqualied at the us embassy in Egypt. Do you think that this will affect our DV case this time if we do the interviewin Sweden?
Best regards
Victor
June 17, 2020 at 02:41
1. Regardless of what you selected for the embassy, KCC will schedule you based on your present address.
2. See 1. You don’t have a choice.
3. I don’t know why your wife was rejected other times, but I do know why you were rejected in DV2017. I told you absolutely categorically that you would be disqualified – I have no idea why you chose to ignore my advice and waste that money. Anyway – you will only have an impact from the previous denials if you lied etc during those attempts.
June 17, 2020 at 03:43
All her attempts to get the us visa been rejected because they said that she has no strong ties to the places where she lived. In 2017 or dv been disqualified because the office which filled out the entry and applied for her in October 2015 made a terrible mistake and applied as single while we were married since Maj 2015. We explained everything to them at the embassy but unfortunately our DV case been disqualified.
Do you mean even this time with correct information in both entry and DS260 our case will be also disqualified? Is that what you mean? What do you mean by i don’t have to waste my time? You got me so worried and confused.
June 17, 2020 at 04:26
I suggest you re-read what I wrote since I said nothing like what you think I said.
June 17, 2020 at 08:09
Ok, I apologise for misunderstanding you. I red what you wrote and now I understand. But if I would like to choose Egypt as interview place they will deny my request since my current address is in Sweden? Thank you thatvyou still remember my story and what happened in 2016, you are an honest person with sharp memory. We went to the interview just for the hope of becoming forgiven for unintentional mistake.
Regards
June 17, 2020 at 17:48
If your address is Sweden they will schedule you in Sweden. What is selected in the DS260 is ignored. The ONLY exception is where you write to them and explain some legitimate reason why you need an interview in some other place.
June 17, 2020 at 01:03
Hello Brit, I’m DV winner2021 but I’m from banned countries( Somalia), I have read a blog where you talk about the impact of getting Visa for winners who are from these countries which a ban has been imposed by Trump. So sir you talked about some alternatives like waiver or have immediate family in the US and you mentioned what you meant for the immediate family like spouse, parents and siblings under 12, so my first question sir is : If I have an uncle who’s US citizen will he play some role for helping me? My second question relate to the possibility of getting a second passport which is not from the list of the countries which have the ban impact. So sir from this regard, I can easily get Ethiopian passport but the problem is my place of birth have to change in order to get this passport and so this will obviously contradicts the place of birth which I applied the DV on the first place. So any suggestions or clarifications from this sir?
June 17, 2020 at 02:50
1. Doubtful. Much more likely is Trump losing the election and Biden removing the bans early next year.
2. That would be fraudulent.
June 17, 2020 at 06:49
Thanks sir for taking some time to respond my queries. I have got it your response but what I meant I can get that passport is not through illegal or fraudulent process, rather I can get it through a legal process. Anyways what I meant is if someone have dual citizenship which one has ban effect but he/she applied it for the DV and got the lottery through the one which having the ban impact, but the other one is free from the ban. So in that scenario how it gonna work sir? Offcourse, till the end of the process (Sept 2021), that person will be same like others who won the lottery. I mean sir if everything goes smooth and reach the visa issuance process, but my passport still has the ban effect but have a dual citizenship, will that work sir?
June 17, 2020 at 17:22
It’s always amazing to me that people don’t even seem to realize what they are saying when they are committing fraud.
You said “but the problem is my place of birth have to change in order to get this passport”. That means you would be telling a lie in order to get the passport. To be clear, that is fraud – and I cannot help you in any way with that.
June 17, 2020 at 17:28
superb Simon !
Its what I’ve been saying a few times recently, isnt it?
June 17, 2020 at 19:14
And Andy – I haven’t argued that point. You seem upset about it – but its a fact of life. In this case the person doesn’t have a sense that they are lying – and that is how it is in some countries. And that is why some countries see incredibly high refusal rates. But even with that, some liars will get through and think they have won for a while. But lies have a way of catching up with you…
June 17, 2020 at 21:04
Thanks sir for the well explained response. I get it now and hopefully it goes well down the line. Thank you again sir.
June 17, 2020 at 21:08
Thank you sir for clarifying with my doubts and I’m not here to do or legitimize fraudulent activity and the questions which I have asked you was merely to get some hope down the line and hope will prevail in our case. Thank you for helping me and will wait and see how things go.
June 17, 2020 at 21:45
Thanks sir for clarifying my doubts, I’m not here by means to do or legitimize fraudulent activity, I’m just looking ways to overcome that challenge and I got it that would probably lead commiting fraud. Thanks again for your help and I hope you don’t assume that because of stupid question that all my fellow citizens do or act some from of fraud, hence the refusal rate is higher in some countries compared to others! Thanks.
June 17, 2020 at 22:31
I know the refusal rates for each embassy and know the reasons behind it. Your “confusion” over what constitutes fraud is not the first time I have seen that.
June 17, 2020 at 16:43

hello brit there are rumors that there will be another executive ban on non immigrant visas h1,f1 and so on and the green card ban might be extended have you heard something its a leak form the white house
June 17, 2020 at 07:49
Hello Brit,
I have won the dv for 2021
My name on my passport is: A B C D
where
A my first name
B fathers name
C grandfathers name
D last name or Surname
in both the ev and the ds 260 I wrote D as surname and A B on Middle names as I got confused from the example thought my grandfather name is not important.
I contacted kcc on the same day after applying questioning if what ive done is wrong and how to fix it .
Please advice as I have read the confusion name article and I still dont know what to do.
June 17, 2020 at 17:44
On the DS260 enter A B C D to match your passport. That’s it.
June 17, 2020 at 18:31
so as I have already submitted the ds 260, should I send another email to unlock and add D ?
thank u
June 17, 2020 at 19:28
Yes
June 17, 2020 at 12:01
I also read the same but it was mentioned that green card ban will be extended in October 1
June 17, 2020 at 17:07
Yes there are reports, but nothing concrete.
June 17, 2020 at 07:33
Dear brit,
i’m from sri lanka and i have selected for DV 2021. My case number is 13xxx. I have a problem with my address. during filling the entry form they were asking a mailing address and i have put my postal address. but in DS 260 they are asking the permanent address. my permanent address is different from postal address. is it ok to put my permanent address in DS 260 even though I have already put my postal address in entry from. will it be a problem and will I be disqualify?
June 17, 2020 at 17:43
No problem.
June 17, 2020 at 08:30
Hello Simon,
First of all, thank you so much for all the valuable content that you share with us.
I have a question, for someone who won the DVLoterry 2021 with the case number AF35xxx. When do you recommand to fill in the DS260 form?
Thank you so much for your answer
June 17, 2020 at 17:48
Anytime from now onwards.
June 17, 2020 at 08:54
Hi Brit,
My fiancé was selected as a winner for DV2021 (AF13xxx). We’re getting married at the end of September after which we will complete the DS260 and start the process. My question is regarding her last name, and what we should use when completing the DS260. Her application was done using her maiden name, which will change once we get married, and her valid passport and all other forms of identification will also still be on her maiden name. Do continue using her maiden name, and when/where would that then be changes?
June 17, 2020 at 17:52
I would suggest she waits until the marriage before submitting. Then once married she can use her new legal name for the DS260 and in there is a field wi=hich is for other names used such as the maiden name.
June 17, 2020 at 09:55
Hi Mr Brit,
Please i want to know when will the dv2022 be taking place?
June 17, 2020 at 10:35
Hello,
When is the right time to send in my ds260 form for 2021….case no AF 80k
June 17, 2020 at 17:55
Certainly not right now – I would suggest you wait until we see how many selectees we have.
June 17, 2020 at 17:52
October
June 17, 2020 at 10:31
since Covid pandamic embassy are closed now. If assume a embassy is opened and start the DV2020 interview before 30th September,
1.Are they start from last stopped interview?
or
2.Are they start from current Visa bullatin number?
June 17, 2020 at 17:54
We don’t know exactly – although given the delay that is inbuilt into the scheduling process, it is likely that they would start with rescheduling the previously cancelled interviews.
June 17, 2020 at 10:56
Hi BritSimon,
1.My spouse(applicant) was chosen in DV2021 and we are both going to attend the interviews once called. Can the assets that are registered in my name be considered when my spouse fills in the DS5540 form?
2. Can a tenancy agreement form signed by the tenant and I be used as evidence of income when we are still in the process of changing ownership of a property?
June 17, 2020 at 17:56
1. Yes
2. Maybe.
June 17, 2020 at 12:45
Hello Brit.
I am a winner of DV2020 and our visa expires on 24 June 2020. We are not able to make the flight because in our country the flights can start after 1 July 2020. I am from Albania, Europe . May I have further information about the future process that we need to take. From the consulate call they said that don`t have any instructions for the procedure that need to be taken.
Please can you give us an advise of what should we do when our visa expires?
Thank you very much for your information

Hi sir please I’m Rosemary from Ghana and I have a question. My friend won the diversity lottery 2021 and I’m helping him fill his DS 260 forms. He has completed university but currently unemployed. But there is a portion in the forms where we will have to provide his primary occupation, present employer , work experience, title of work and even employment date which is virtually impossible. We can’t continue without providing these info too. Can you please help us???
June 17, 2020 at 18:34
Current occupation is unemployed. Then he can list education or work completed.
June 17, 2020 at 12:57
Hi Brit, My case number is AF53*** and I understand time is running out for us. I have been calling KCC severally about my documents but the number is not going through at all. What could be the problem? Is there another number that I can reach them? I have been using the number below to contact KCC but all in vain (606) 526-7500.
Advice me please.
Thank you in advance
June 17, 2020 at 18:36
There is only that number and only the one email address. You need to make sure you call within their working hours.
Time is running short – although I am seeing a lot of cases getting ready for scheduling emails, so push if you can, but also understand you might be lucky anyway.
June 17, 2020 at 13:02
Hello dear Brit Simon. Hope all is well. I actually dont want to bother you with questions and promise will never do that again. So in original entry I missed one letter in my last name. I mean in my ID card its Tağiyev but unfortunately i translated it like Tagiyev. So I am a winner or 2021 DV I was very happy till that time when i notice that my last name in Passport is Taghiyev so i missed H. Can you tell me please was there any issues like this before in your experience. What is my chance to get visa? Thank you very much for your answer in advance.
June 17, 2020 at 18:37
As long as you correctly enter that in the DS260 it should not be a problem.
June 17, 2020 at 20:15
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR RESPOND. I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT. STAY SAFE TAKE CARE PLEASE.
June 17, 2020 at 13:05
Hello Brit Simon. I hope you and your family are fine and well during this period. I have a question. I am a DV2020 winner and my case no is EU 331.. I have submitted DS-260 and the required docs (kccdocs) on November. It was said that i should wait 3-6 weeks for a response to the docs (weather they are ok or not), I have not received a response, so I resubmitted them again on june 3. What do you think about this, why haven’t I received a response yet?
Also what’s your opinion about the 2nl will I get one?
Thanks in advance.
June 17, 2020 at 18:38
They seem to be working on a lot of cases at the moment – and tehre are still about 2 weeks remaining. So – hooefully yours will be processed in that time.
June 17, 2020 at 19:33
Hi Joel,
Did they confirm that your DS260 has already been processed? Everytime we call them we get another shady answer.
May I ask when did you submit your DS260?
June 17, 2020 at 13:59
Is there anyway to call you via phone?
June 17, 2020 at 14:09
AF 53k Ghana when exactly should I fill out the ds 260. Also is there a way to call you for one on one? Just asking thanks
June 17, 2020 at 18:39
Questions are best asked here.
June 17, 2020 at 22:25
Yes is AF 53xxx 2021 and thanks very much for the information as to when to fill out the DS 260. I’m a little confused because they said you should fill the form as soon as possible and I was thinking couple of months but you made mention of April or May of 2021 please wouldn’t that be too long a wait? I’m just asking because I didn’t think filling the form can move into next year 2021. Thanks
June 17, 2020 at 23:39
I answered already.
June 17, 2020 at 14:22
Hi Simon,
Have you ever heard of people that were scheduled for their 2NL without getting the “documents processed” email? I submitted my doc by the end of April and have still no confirmation. I emailed KCC and they said that my documents are still being processed. It’s kind of frustrating because my case is very easy (only applicant, single, not many extra documents to submit).
June 17, 2020 at 15:01
I’ve the same situation. No military record, no family but still without confirmation. Makes me anxious about whether they have my documents or not
June 17, 2020 at 18:41
I don’t believe the email is a required part of the process, but I suggest you call them over the next couple of weeks to see whether they are able to see your documents or not.
June 17, 2020 at 14:42
Hello Brit,
My CN is 2021AF50k
My country kenya is facing the our passports by 2021 march. and issuing new e passports. Right now they are valid until then. I have replaced mine but due to covid 19 I might get it in mid September. It was valid and not expired when applying dv lottery.still is .
My questions are
1. Should I use the current one to fill ds260 as I wait the other one? (My case number is quite high, or should I fill the ds260 in September once I have a new one)
2.the passport number changes so if I wait to fill the ds260 form in september , will they have a problem that it is different?
3.Incase I use the new passport. When sending the documents will I have to send both the old passport and the new one? (For them to verify that the first passport number was still mine?
4.im a medical student doing bachelor of medicine and surgery yet to graduate in September 2021 .on the ds260 can I choose (highschool diploma or university no degree) and should I write I intend to do medical health in the us ?
5.My sponsor is my host.but they file their tax jointly.(she is married) will that be a problem?
Apology, My questions are a lot and wordy .I’ll appreciate your response
June 17, 2020 at 14:44
*My country kenya is facing out the old passports by 2021 march
June 17, 2020 at 18:45
1. Waiting won’t cause any delay.
2. Submit old and new passport scans with documents and at the interview.
3. Yes
4. If you like, yes.
5. No
June 17, 2020 at 18:53
Thank you
June 17, 2020 at 15:06
Brit, wanted to ask you. When I’m is sure that every document is okay, everything is sent correctly, anyways resent my documents in accordance to your advice, calling to KCC every week and still can’t get anything from them about my documents. What should I do? There is nothing else left ! Or should I resent my documents every week?
June 17, 2020 at 15:23
What’s your country? I think he told you multiple times that you should be patient. I think it’s unfair that you’re resending your documents over and over again – you’re clogging their mailbox and that might make them slower to proceed with other people’s cases..
June 17, 2020 at 16:02
Your reply was just an amazing thing:) It was sarcastic question and such a pitty that you didn’t get it. I’m not sending documents every week and I don’t think any winner have done it. Just the fact is that EU40XXX has received confirmation letter and something isn’t working out
June 17, 2020 at 17:10
No worries, I got it right. I think you mentioned in a couple of previous posts that you resend your documents multiple times and also called them multiple times. What kind of answer do you expect from him? There won’t be any other answer to this but “wait and see” – no matter how many more times you ask. I understand your despair though, we’re all in the same boat. I just think that trying to squeeze another answer than wait & see our of Simon is not possible.
June 17, 2020 at 18:46
You ask these same things almost every day. You know what to do. You will push as hard as you can, and hopefully you will get processed over the coming 2 weeks. But there are no certainties.
June 17, 2020 at 15:19
ive noted your posts for a long time and your anger and animosity
you seem a bit too keen and to febrile
i can appreciate it can be nerve wrecking and I feel for you…
….but what will be, will be
June 17, 2020 at 15:39
i just replied to this guy that you too have written too now with the same
He is to febrile and agitated – and its showing in every way! Maybe its for the best !
June 17, 2020 at 16:01
Simon, thank you very much for all of your dedication and help addressing people’s questions and concerns. My biggest concern now is delays and cancellations for DV 2021 interviews and visa issuance due to the coronavirus disruption. I am a European selectee in the low 20,000 – 21,000 range.
Hypothetically, if US embassies stayed closed through September 2021, is there a chance that they don’t even issue the ~50,000 visas normally issued annually and in effect we lose out on our selection? Based on reading your articles and watching your videos, it seems to me that the fiscal year period for issuing DV visas is set in stone and there is no chance of extending or changing it. Please let me know your thoughts.

Jeez – that is a HUGE hypothetical leap to get to a place where the embassies don’t reopen for the next 15 months!!!!
But no there is no way to extend, and if they don’t issue the visas that is what it is.

Please I want to ask a question I did asked before
1. AF 53xxx what month should I file the Ds260?
Also I made a mistake in my place of birth on the lottery application. I want to rectify it if I rectify it on the Ds 260 will it disqualify my application or should I maintain the mistake I did initial and provide the right information at the interview? I need your advice. Thanks

Mr Simon thanks for your help to people , appreciate it
I got one question , I’ve been selected for green card program visa and I already signed and submitted the ds-260 but later I found that I made a mistake , I chose high school diploma instead of high school certificate for my course study is ACADEMIC.
So I wonder ! Will this lead to my refusal at the embassy on the day of the interview?

Hi Brit! Quick question I wasn’t able to find in the forums: as a DV 2021 selectee currently on a non-immigrant visa in the USA, I am still considering doing the process through Consular Processing (different logistics favor it). How long can I remain in the USA during that process? I understand I would have to be in my home country for the interview but can I file from the USA and stay until called in for interview?
Any reference to where I can find more info on this or people with similar experiences is also welcome.
Thanks for your awesome work!
June 17, 2020 at 19:30
Yes, you would need to go to your home country in time for the medical, then the interview and then to receive your passport after the interview. So – end to end that is a minimum of 2 weeks, often longer.

Pease I want your input on this dilemma of mine I. My case number is AF 53xxx and I want to know when will be too late to file. I need sometime to fill the ds260 and I want to know based on my case number if I have time to fill it and it will not go against me. What is my timeframe to file the ds260? I need your input please… thanks

I asked you to clarify the year – but I’ll assume DV2021.
You can delay submission for several months, latest being around April, possibly May.

Hi Simon,
I got the following question in the DS 260.
“Have you attended a public elementary school or a public secondary school on student (F) status after November 30, 1996 without reimbursing the school?”
Currently we live in USA with F (student) visa. My son holds F 2 visa and he attends public elementary school (Grade 1). We are not reimbursing the school. Visa application needs an explanation if he attends school without reimbursing.
1. Can you help me to answer this question?
2. Should we reimburse the school for his expenses?
3. Would it be a problem to get the Green Card?
June 17, 2020 at 20:40
I don’t know. You should check with your lawyer.
June 17, 2020 at 20:04
Hi Brit, hope all is good!
From your experience over the years, what is the highest case number in AF that got issued a visa? When do they usually stop at? approximatelly
Thanks!
June 17, 2020 at 20:57
Previous years are not like this year – every year is different. Wait until we know how many selectees we have – then we can start discussing chances etc.
June 17, 2020 at 20:42
Mr.Brit In other words, if there was no answer from Kentucky before July 5, does this mean the end?
June 17, 2020 at 20:58
It is not that black and white. But the chances significantly reduce from that point.
June 17, 2020 at 21:08
Good day Simon,
If my spouse is an LPR in the US, and I am attending the interview alone, do I still need to provide the marriage certificate to KCC and at the interview?
Apologise for the repost, but it seems I haven’t received your answer
June 17, 2020 at 22:28
Yes
