Hi Brit, I was the winner of the 2021 visa lottery. I would like to know what possibility of an interview I have with the case number 20210000SA32XX. Greetings
July 27, 2020 at 19:19
In a few weeks we will know better.
July 27, 2020 at 03:34
Hi Simon,
I am a dv2020 winner and my interview was scheduled in April. This was cancelled due to Covid19. I also won the dv2021 lottery and I am wondering if I should fill the ds260 form for dv2021 or wait for a positive response from dv2020.
July 27, 2020 at 18:58
You could wait for a few weeks – that won’t affect your DV2021 case.
July 27, 2020 at 03:35
Dear Brit,
My case number is DV2021AS23***. I am currently in the US with H1b visa. Which process do you think relatively safer, AOS or CP? Please advise. Thanks.
July 27, 2020 at 18:59
It’s important that you understand all aspects of that decision. However, right at this time, AOS has the advantage because CP cases are banned, AOS is not.
July 27, 2020 at 04:35
Hallo Brit
My case number is 2021AF0008××××
How is it?should i wait to submitmy ds260?
July 27, 2020 at 19:01
Do you mean a number of over 80000? In that case you should wait, yes. We don’t know how many selectees there are yet – so in a few weeks we will know better
July 27, 2020 at 20:30
Yes it is over 80000 actually the 800XX. Also with the US consulate living china will it affect dv visa numbers.
Thanks so much and God bless we will wait.
July 27, 2020 at 09:45
Mr Simon, please help if You have any idea or info.
2020EU16xxx
Interview scheduled for 6th of April and cancelled due to the pandemic.
Called the embassy and they don’t know anything. They even say that this one month extension for medical does not effect the DV program winners. Should we keep hoping, or close this option. The whole situation is really frustrating…
Thank You in advance and best regards
July 27, 2020 at 19:08
The extension could affect DV cases *IF* the ban is blocked.
July 27, 2020 at 10:27
Dear Brit,
Previously I asked you that I have lived in collage dormitory of another city than mine while I was a student. I asked about should I write the address of my dormitory for that period that I studied (6 years). you kindly answered me go with your home address for that period too.
I just remembered that I worked in that city while I was a student and living in dormitory ( worked for an NGO for 4 months). In the DS260 guide you advise to right the work history that make sense with the addresses you have mentioned. What should I do sir?
Should I just list my home address as dormitory is not official address, and explain it during the interview that I worked in that city but I was student living in dormitory?
Or should I use the dormitory address for that period that I worked?
July 27, 2020 at 19:08
Whatever you think is most accurate.
July 28, 2020 at 08:29
Thank you. I was thinking about listing my home address in the address line 1 and my dormitory address in the address line 2 for my period of study (6 years). Do you think it is okey?
July 28, 2020 at 18:29
No.
July 27, 2020 at 10:49
Hi Sir, please tell me while filling the Ds260 around the school part :
About the attendance date of the institutions …
1- I have a High school degree from a school that I’ve been for 3 years meaning I did 10th 11th 12th grade there
But when filling should I only put the attendance dates for 12 grade only ??
Or all the time I spent in that school
2- Same with My Associate degree , spent 2 years in that school so should mention the times I attended that school or the 2nd year (which is when I earned the degree)
July 27, 2020 at 19:09
1. You should detail all education from age 12 and up.
2. Same answer.
July 27, 2020 at 11:11
Hello brit ,
I am 2021 dv winner from Nepal. Currently , I am first year university student here. I am confused whether I enlisted myself as university , no degree or high school , degree while filling the application form . But while filling ds260 I filled high school degree . Does it make any difficulty ?
July 27, 2020 at 19:09
No
July 27, 2020 at 12:09
Hello Britsimon, Iam a Dv2021 winner, CN 2021AF000001**
I filled my ds-260 and submitted, I think I made a mistake on highest education attained, I filled Highschool, no degree and I have completed my high school education and I have a certificate of the same,
Should I request the ds-260 to be opened so that I can change that or there is no problem?
July 27, 2020 at 19:11
No need to update it.
July 27, 2020 at 15:44
Hey brit
Is there any method to check the email for supporting documents other than checking the mail?
Can i log into my CEAC ds 260 submitted page and check there as it shows where my case is?
Please clear this
July 27, 2020 at 19:18
No.
July 27, 2020 at 22:13
Hi Simon,
I have a question regarding the dvisa requirements. I understand an applicant needs to have a birth certificate. And if he or she does not have one for different reasons, he is required to get a certified statement from a government authority stating why he doesn’t have his birth certificate. Along with a sworn affidavit, that can be used in place of a lost birth certificate.
And that’s where my question is.
Which government institution in Uganda can issue that certified statement?
Can a Uganda Police letter stating the loss of a birth certificate be sufficient?
Thank you and I look forward to your reply.
July 27, 2020 at 22:30
I have no idea.
July 27, 2020 at 22:54
Hi, i think the provision is for cases where one cannot obtain a birth certificate like where a birth was never registered.
If you had a birth certificate which got lost, you have to try and get a replacement. That would be better.
July 27, 2020 at 22:24
Dear Simon,
I am writing because I have a question in my case, I am the winner of the 2020-2021 visa Lottery, at the time I registered I did it with my husband and at my registration I declared that I have no children as it is true, however in his if we declare his daughter who is 11 years old. The doubt is the following, when we filled out the DS-260 we continued declaring the same thing that I had no children and in his case we declared his daughter and that she did not emigrate now, the reason is that her mother does not authorize her but now they tell me that I should have declared your daughter as my daughter and that is what I do not understand. I count on your explanation to clarify my case to maintain its transparency. I thank you in advance.
July 27, 2020 at 23:04
Unfortunately you will be disqualified for this.
Since you were married at the time of DV entry, you had a step daughter. Step children are treated equally under the law, so your were required to list the child as your daughter. Since you omitted the derivative child, the CO will have no choice but to disqualify you. There is no discretion about this. The outcome is certain.
The instructions are quite clear about the requirement, and the penalty. It says:
“Be sure to include:
all living natural children;
all living children legally adopted by you; and,
all living step-children who are unmarried and under the age of 21 on the date of your
electronic entry, even if you are no longer legally married to the child’s parent, and even if
the child does not currently reside with you and/or will not immigrate with you.”
And then explains:
“Failure to list all children who are eligible or, listing someone who is not your child, will result in
disqualification of the principal applicant and refusal of all visa applications in the case at the time
of the visa interview.”
KCC won’t disqualify you (they do not have that authority), but you will be disqualified at interview if you choose to proceed. So – to avoid wasting your money I suggest you cease processing.
July 31, 2020 at 17:31
Dear Simon, the same penalty would apply to a principal applicant that didn’t have knowledge (at the time of the DV lottery entry) of the existence of an illegitimate child? For example, my mom on her own, participated in the Dv lottery and at this time she didn’t know my father has a child with someone else since they have never been in contact nor have information about her whereabouts.
I would really appreciate it if you answer this question because sincerely I don’t know if my mother should proceed with the process or not…
Thank you in advance!!
July 31, 2020 at 22:11
Consider it from a COs perspective. They are not expected to judge the excuse, they simply apply the rule.
July 27, 2020 at 22:25
Hae brit! Kudos for everything you are doing for dv winners, God bless you abundantly.
July 27, 2020 at 22:33
Good evening Brit, I wrote my embassy concerning the one month extension you talk about. And they CO said they will do some research and get back to me.
It’s like they’re not aware
July 27, 2020 at 22:55
Oh – that’s highly likely. These things are communicated to embassies, but few embassies read the memos in a timely manner.
July 27, 2020 at 22:57
Okay i see, I’m awaiting their response email
Thanks very much Brit
July 27, 2020 at 23:53
Dear Simon,
I wrote to the KCC to unlock the DS-260 and be able to include it since I have not yet sent my supporting documents, do you think I have a chance?
July 28, 2020 at 01:01
Not unless you have a time machine. The problem is the entry not the DS260. You cannot fix this.
July 28, 2020 at 00:12
Hello Simon,
Quick question here. My friend’s wife is a graduate of Faculty of Sciences where she had a major in Chemistry. She worked as a chemist in a medical/clinical laboratory. Is there a concern around this type of education and work experience? They were told that chemists may be put on AP for this reason.
Hope you can help us on this.
Cheers.
July 28, 2020 at 01:00
Not particularly concerning.
July 28, 2020 at 02:21
Hi britsimon you did an amazing job keep up it. I was 2018 dv lottery winner. Know 2021 dv lottery winner. I have some question about it. Question
1.when I was winner dv 2018, I was filled dv entruant form as a single after that when I was filled ds 260 as maired. Know how to submite ds 260?
2. When I was filled dv 2021 I missed Sur name of one speling is that aproblem?
thank you.
July 28, 2020 at 03:38
1. Just the truth.
2. Make sure it is correct in the ds260.
July 28, 2020 at 03:33
Hello BritSimon,
First of all, thank you VERY MUCH for your help, because as Dv 2020 winner, we got into the USA on time as you suggested us to do.
The problem is that, we have been there for 4 weeks and we still haven’t got our Social Security Number. They told us, that we’ll have it by mail in a few days (it was not the case); then they told us to send them a job offer so they can fix us an appointment (but still not the case, cause they called today saying they can’t give us a SSN, since it’s not an emergency). They just suggest to wait for the office to reopen, not knowing when it’s going to happen. On the other side, some dv winners that came 1 week ago, got their SSN by mail without any procedure.
My question is: what should we do to get a SSN, so we can start working, having our drivers license etc, or even have our insurance on time (since it expires on September).
What do they consider as emergency cases needing social security number?
God bless you!
Lona
July 28, 2020 at 03:37
If you have a job offer, that justifies an emergency appointment. Call the local office, or the main number and be polite, but persistent.
July 28, 2020 at 04:22
Hi Brit. 2 questions re child’s application – age 14, who is part of my application. 1. Vaccinations: I can get a list of vaccinations but not sure we have all the ones are required for greencard approval. 2. The form asks for current work/education/training, so I have filled in school details.
Next questions asks for ‘have you attended any educational institutions at a secondary level or above?’ Answer: Yes.(because the child is still in school) No. Institutions: 1. (still at this school) I fill in school info, which is the same as for previous question on work/education/training. And it asks for degree diploma or certificate received. But the child is still in high school and not yet completed. Should I put the award the will get on completing school (but have yet to receive)? Thanks.
July 28, 2020 at 05:18
1. No. The physician will decide what is needed.
2. Stop overthinking. Just fill it out. It’s not important for a child.
July 28, 2020 at 04:51
hello sir;
I am a winner of 2020. unfortunately, i couldn’t get my interview due to presidential ban. I have prepared an appeal to the us authority regarding presidential ban. Could I make email of this to the authority? would there be any bad impact to me by this? If I could, where to email? Could you please provide me the email address of US authority (The White House, American Congress, American Senate, US President) and your email as well?
July 28, 2020 at 05:16
An appeal is pointless. The government is very happy that the ban is affecting people like you. That was their plan.
What you should do is wait for the lawsuits.
July 28, 2020 at 06:40
Good evening Simon,
I’m a 2020 DV lottery selected and I want to be optimistic!
For this reason I’m preparing all the documents for the interview, just in case the lawsuits will go well, and I’ll can have an interview on September.
I’m from Italy but I live in Canada since 2016.
I sent to KCC my police certificates from Italy and Canada.
Now they are expired.
The Italian police certificates expired last month. That means they were issued in June 2019. I visited my family in Italy on September 2019 and I stayed there for 3 weeks. It is written in the travel.state.gov website that:”Police certificates expire after one year, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:
-You are more than 16 years old;
-The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than one year ago; and
-You still live in the country that issued the certificate.”
Do you think I should ask the new police certificate from Italy even if I’m not living there since November 2016? I just went in my country for 3 weeks to visit my family, but after the certificate was issued.
Thank you for your help.
Best regards,
Angela
July 28, 2020 at 18:28
Well you can avoid wondering/risk by getting a new police certificate. Why not do that?
July 28, 2020 at 08:08
Hello Simon,
I only mentioned my high school and university education at the DV260 form, without the primary school. Should I unlock the form and add all educational institutions?
I saw your comment that we should include all after age 12?
July 28, 2020 at 18:29
Ideally you should list all education from around 12 (because that is what the instructions say).
July 28, 2020 at 09:00
Hi Brit I got difficult to submit my ds260 form. On the part where they ask “enter your kcc case number” I entered my case number but but it doesn’t work.
July 28, 2020 at 18:30
Are you removing the leading zeros?
July 28, 2020 at 21:04
Which zeros??

Hello Mr. Brit thanks so much for your restless help
..

July 28, 2020 at 19:44
You should wait. There is no need to be in a rush.
July 28, 2020 at 09:19
Hello sir
I have a question regarding the latest statement given by DOS about one month medical extension..
1) My medical was done on 4th feb and my visa will expire on 12 aug…
2) My question is if I apply for reissue of visa.. Should I have to again go through medical examination… Or does this medical extension benefits me.. Coz my medical was done between jan to june as they said.
July 28, 2020 at 19:51
The extension terms mean that you should be able to get your visa extended to 12 September with no problem. The question you must ask yourself is whether that will help.
So –
Can you travel before August 12?
If not, would an extension to September 12 be helpful? If so – ask the embassy for that based on this policy.
If that still won’t make any difference, then you could be better off trying to get a longer “extension” by getting the visa re-issued – but that currently is affected by the ban.
July 29, 2020 at 01:48
You mean a reissued visa is affected by ban…. and I can’t travel on that reissued visa…. Well I am trying hard to fly before my visa gets expired…
July 28, 2020 at 13:49
Hello Brit, I hope u are doing well.
If I can find someone to sponsor me to fill form I-134 for me, and he is my father’s friend. Do embassy need some documents from me to proof it, cuz embassy thinks we hire someone to sponsor me, does it likely to happens ?? And if we can’t find any documents to proof it it means we are disqualified, right ??
Thanks Brit.
July 28, 2020 at 19:55
They may ask you to explain the relationship, and sometimes they could ask for proof – but that is rare.
July 28, 2020 at 14:59
Hello,Brit
Please I just check my status yesterday and I have been selected
case numberAF000047XXX
Please, I can I still fill the DS-260 or it it late for me
How how can I pay for the fees in order to be able to fill the DS-260
In the process of the filling the forms I won’t be taking my spouse along for now would I still be required to fill the spouse section for her
Would I be required to uphold certain documents during the information entries
July 28, 2020 at 19:59
You left the year off your number – so I have to assume you are DV2021.
Your number is quite high, so you have plenty of time to submit without making any difference to your case. You have time to read the FAQ, the guides and everything I have here – so you can better understand the process.
July 28, 2020 at 15:59
Hi Brit, after entering the USA with my sealed envelope, do I need to do something or just wait for my green card to be sent?
Is the SSN delivered automatically or we need to apply physically in a security social office?
July 28, 2020 at 20:02
As long as you have paid the immigrant fee ($220 per person) the GC will be sent to the address on your DS260. Expect to wait up to 3 or 4 months.
In your DS260 you answered a question about whether you wanted the SSN to come out automatically. If you selected that option the SSN would automatically be sent – but that should only take 2 to 3 weeks.
July 28, 2020 at 16:15
Hello Simon,
I am a DV 2021 selectee. I already submitted my ds 260 a month ago but still haven’t got any email for additional civil documents. My case no. is 6.5k from Asia region.
1- How long does it take to receive an email?
2- Am I safe with this case no.?
3- Does KCC disqualify us without asking the additional documents?
July 28, 2020 at 20:03
1. It varies. Patience.
2. The number is not high.
3. No
July 28, 2020 at 16:32
How can I have access this blog?
July 28, 2020 at 20:04
You have access. You can read the articles. When you ask a question, as a new user the question is held until I approve it – so ask once and wait. Read the FAQ please.
July 28, 2020 at 16:37
Hello Mr Brit
I have some issues as I completed and submitted DS-260 form and its taking long as I submitted ,what’s the next thing to do after this?
July 28, 2020 at 20:05
I can’t answer vague, unclear questions. Be clear. But also, read the content I have already created to answer your questions.
July 28, 2020 at 19:25

Hello BRIT!
Am dv2020 winner any information regarding law suit?
July 28, 2020 at 22:34
Not yet
July 28, 2020 at 22:08
Good evening Brit, i just received an email reply from my embassy about the one month extension and they said they are not doing it.
What do you advise i do?
Thanks very much for the response
July 28, 2020 at 22:44
You may need to be persistent. Make sure you provide the official link to the Department of State announcement (link below), and ask them to explain, in clear terms, why they are unable to comply with the clear policy change implemented by DoS.
It’s time for you to take your chance. You have been through the whole process and there is no reason to let people take away your chances. You need to stand up for yourself, both with the embassy and the airlines. You need to be resourceful. You don’t need to ask me everything. You know what they told you is wrong. Start fighting.

July 29, 2020 at 02:31
Hi Simon
Questions about SSN option in DS260.
1. Wife is selectee in DV2021. Not planning to work after moving to the USA. Should she choose “NO” to the question?
2. If she decides to get a job later on, will she be able to apply for a SSN afterward?
3. I am the derivative. I plan to work after moving to the USA. I already got a SSN back in my college days long time ago. I know my number but I lost the (paper) card. Do I also choose “NO” to the question if all I need is to get them to re-issue a new card?
Thank you for your help.
July 29, 2020 at 16:33
1. She will need an SSN. So – yes would be the better choice.
2. Everyone needs an SSN.
3. Yes – you keep the same number, you just go to the SSA office for a new card.
July 29, 2020 at 04:25
Hi Brit,
I have been selected for EDV 2021 with case number of 4000-4500. I have not submitted DS-260 due to some confusion, can you guide me on followings;
1. When is last submission date and consequence of submission in later period but within deadline. Means is there any probability of granting visa for early submission and vice versa.
2. Should i required passport of all dependent at time of submission of DS-260 (i am not able to travel due to mobility ban in Nepal to make passport of my son of ~5 years)
3. My wife is pregnant with child born date of December 2021, how can i accommodate this upcoming child in my DV program. I have include my wife and first son in list while filling initial DV form.
July 29, 2020 at 16:37
Your number is meaningless without the region.
1. There is no last submission date – some people will submit up to April or even May next year.
2. No – you can use a the passport number of one of the parents for the child.
3. Once the child is born, you can add to your case – please read the FAQ that explains that.

Good night or day for everybody! Mr. Brit, I have question regarding filling the DS-260. Me and my wife, who is winner of the DV2021, are students here in the US. I am little bit confused about the situation here in US. If I fill the form now I have to show a place for taking an interview. As it is known AoS takes longer time than CP. Our case number is 27xxx. If interview will be scheduled between April and May there is risk that they will finish the process till September because travel ban will have affect on the timeframe. If we will be back to our country again travel ban will be obstacle. What do you think? When I have to fill the form? Need your advice. Thank you for advance! I am so thankful!

Your number is meaningless without the region.
You don’t need to complete the DS260 yet. Right now AOS is safer than CP – because CP cases are banned. Processing times for AOS are not really much slower than CP – because you get an early submission ability on AOS. So – you should wait a while to figure out how high your number is within your region, then make a plan.

Hi Simon,
I’m dv lottery winner for 20-21. I almost all completed ds260 form by myself but I have doubt for one yes no question in the form. The question states that:
1. Have you traveled to other countries within last 5 years? In this, do we also need to mention those countries where we went on holidays for 3 to 4 days?
2. If we need to mention then do we need the police report of that country as well?
Thanks

1. Answer the question you see. Just that.
2. You must read the instructions. If you had, you would know that there is a time period for whether you need a police cert of not. Read the instructions.

Hi Simon

No problem. The physician will decide what you need, if anything.

Dear Britt,
As always, thank you for your guidance. We are your constant follower. Our case number is 2020EU33XXX. Earlier, you had stated that if our documents had not been processed yet, we probably have no chance at all getting the interview. Fair and understood. However, I keep blaming myself for not sending the documents correctly, although I claim to be a very detailed and organized character. Long and short, we listened to your advice once again and joined the Curtis case. At this point, I am not in any expectation; but, the guilt I keep inside is eating my brains out. Finally, through extensive research, I’ve concluded that there are no case numbers whose documents are processed after 2020EU22XXX > EU25XXX (max).
Am I right? Do you have any contradicting data?
Best!
July 29, 2020 at 12:49
I have received the documents confirmation email!
July 29, 2020 at 13:47
what is your case number
?
July 29, 2020 at 16:46
I am pretty much certain that your guess about EU25XXX is incorrect. I have said MANY times, there are times when processing goes by case numbers, but not always. So – there is pretty much no doubt that cases higher than EU25XXX have had ready for scheduling emails.

My CN is 29xxx

I’m 2020EU39xxx and I never got the email but called KCC a few months ago and they said that everything was processed for me, DS260 and docs. But even still, I have zero expectations anymore

Dear, good morning? How are things going? I wrote an email regarding my documents last month. They replied me the message below. Does the message amounts to congratulation to provision of all required documents. Thanks a lot and stay blessed!
“Thank you for your inquiry.
Records indicate you have submitted a complete and valid DS-260 application for each family member, and you have provided all required documentation to the Kentucky Consular Center. Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing. Interviews for the DV 2020 program will begin in October 2019 and conclude on September 30, 2020. Please refer to the visa bulletin at https://www.travel.state.gov to locate the current numbers being processed. This bulletin is updated after the 15th day of each month. Once an interview date has been scheduled, you will receive notification via email to check https://www.dvlottery.state.gov.
Due to the novel COVID-19 outbreak all interviews for the DV program have been suspended, it is undetermined when scheduling will resume.”

When sending the email for supporting documents by kcc, to which email they will send? Is it to the primary email mentioned in ds 260 or the additional email mentioned in ds 260?
July 29, 2020 at 16:58
Primary

Hello Brit, im completing my Ds-260 sorry for the too much question but i summed them up to ask All in one time
1) i forget my grandpa name in initial entry you advised to write correct in the DS form, would it be enough to write correct in given name section or i also should include it in alias name
2) they are asking about country authority issued the passport document (my passport is issued in Dubai but im not a uae nationality holder) so the issuing country is UAE or my nationality country
3) is there some kind of correct way to write the home address?or anything is fine
4) my husband travelled to different countries but with his work in his seaman book not with his normal passport should we also include all of the countries he entered.
5) my husband was in one university but he didn’t complete his degree there then he transferred to another one and they counted for him the previous courses in that university so he only had 2 years on engineering instead of four so what should we write when we list the first. University studies since he didn’t receive a degree
6) our universities degrees don’t show the exact date when we started neither school should we write approximate dates?
7) does this job require at least 2 years of experience (what does that mean)
8) what if i forget that i had a previous phone number ?
Appreciate your help

1. The name in the DS260 should be the full legal name – usually matching the passport.
2. Nationality country
3. Use your judgement.
4. Yes
5. List all schools, colleges, universities he attended.
6. Yes
7. Does the job performed require training of some sort, or can someone with NO experience or training do that job.
8. Don’t forget.
July 29, 2020 at 19:04
5. High school starts from age 16?
8. Im trying to get all the information from my head but there’s some holiday numbers for example i cannot find record for would that be a problem?
THAAANK YOU

Good morning Sir ,
suppose KCC has sent the email about supporting documents , during your checking your email you deleted it by mistake and you did not even notice that it is from KCC , and after a certain time you called KCC to ask about the email it was not sent according to you .
1 – will KCC tell you that it sent the email about supporting documents?
2 – will KCC resend this email on your request ?
Thank you Sir for your clarification in advance ,
July 29, 2020 at 17:34
I don’t know. Why does it matter? If you know you had the email – just send the documents.

Hello Simon! When I open the DS-260 form for my son, my son`s birth year has been written wrong automatically. Although I corrected my son`s birthday, Is automatic written birth year in DS-260 that I wrote in the first entry of DV lottery?? Does it affect on my case???
July 29, 2020 at 17:34
No problem. Just make sure it is accurate in the DS260
July 29, 2020 at 17:56
Are the emails for supporting documents send according to the case number or randomly?
July 30, 2020 at 20:19
It varies based on workload, but also processing times for DS260 vary based on multiple factors. Bottomline – patience.
