Hello Again Sir,
My girlfriend holds a diplomatic passport. After the marriage, can we use her diplomatic passport or use a new passport with her surname changed?
Thanks!
September 19, 2020 at 13:55
Diplomatic passport can be used only when you travel for mission, for your official work. Using the diplomatic passport for private purposes is prohibited by international law.
September 19, 2020 at 14:47
Thank you, Stephane
Cheers!?

September 19, 2020 at 10:23
Hi Simon ! Many thanks for your terrific effort ! People like you are rare nowdays. I am waiting for.my visa to get stamped.
1-How many times are we allowed to extend visas if trump wins and extend the pp10014?
2-I remember you few months ago that you mentioned Hawuai . Is there any other choice to activate LPR before 31 december?
3- i want your opinion as you are in USA ..do you think the moron may be elected again?
God bless you Sir Simon!
September 19, 2020 at 16:32
1. You will not be able to extend the visas being issued now UNLESS the Sept 30 deadline is extended
2. No – and Hawaii is not a choice before Dec 31
3. It’s possible.

Hi Brit , my interview was on December 17/2019 and I was put on AP, after that they slowdown the process and then came COVID as we know, anyway my question is the DJT proclamation ends on 12/31 what happens then because my payment for my visa will be expired, thank you for your help

September 19, 2020 at 10:33

September 19, 2020 at 12:15
Hi Simon
A DV 2021 winner with a small case number 1K winner just get his confirmation email this week that’s mean kcc they are not focusing all their work on DV 2020 cases
September 19, 2020 at 16:36
Yes, I have seen that. The lawyers are informed.
September 21, 2020 at 08:55
Hi Brit, I’m a DV 2021 winner with case number AS12XXX. From Sri Lanka. As a practice we use father’s family name in front of our given name and surname. So. Birth certificate has given name and surname while passport has Fathers family name + given name + Surname. And all my derivatives have same problem. Do you recommend to obtain affidavits for each person from a lawyer stating all names are belong to one person? I have filled DS260 as per passport with all the names. And if I’m scheduled for an interview ( hopefully) I have selected embassy outside SL so they wouldn’t know much about SL names. Like to hear your opinion.
September 21, 2020 at 15:41
I suggest you use the name listed on your passport as your legal name.
September 19, 2020 at 16:41
Hi Anas, when you say “confirmation email” which specific email do you mean? Do you mean the 2NL or the ‘ready for scheduling’ email?
Thanks!
September 19, 2020 at 21:01
Do u mean confirm received docs. or 2NL
September 19, 2020 at 13:19
Hi Simon! Thanks for all your help. Is it normal to have the October visa bulletin delayed? Is there some information?
Thank you in advance
September 19, 2020 at 16:36
It’s not a problem. Relax.
September 19, 2020 at 13:33
Hello britsimon,I am in AP and and ceac has several case last updated in September when I wrote the embassy they said this, as per our records, you were interviewed and informed the decision. We are sorry but we will not be able to process your case completion based on the information communicated to you during your interview.now what should I do,thanks for helping Soo many people am dv 2020
September 19, 2020 at 16:37
Ask them again. Under the judges order they should adjudicate your case. Unless they have fully refused it for some reason.
September 19, 2020 at 13:39
Sorry I forgot I submitted all the additional evidence requested by the consular officer, thanks
September 19, 2020 at 14:04
Good afternoon sir,
Please I would like to ask if dv2021 selectees from the schengen area (Europe, uk,)stand to benefit from the schengen ban block by the court.
September 19, 2020 at 16:38
No.
September 19, 2020 at 15:50
Hi Brit! My name is Shafira, DV2020 selectee from Indonesia. My interview has been rescheduled to next week, so wish me luck. I am trying to verify whether I need an I-134 affidavit support for my application. The KCC and the US Embassy in Jakarta never mentioned this requirement. I even emailed the US Embassy in Jakarta separately to confirm this matter but they said no a dv lottery selectee does not evidence of financial capability/support. Is this correct? Your response is very much I appreciated. Thanks so much!!!
September 19, 2020 at 16:40
If I were you I would get it – just in case.
September 19, 2020 at 16:16

This is pointless and ineffectual. What the heck is Marco Rubio going to do???
The lawsuit is the way forward – being heard on Monday.
September 19, 2020 at 16:25
Hi Brit,
Hope you are doing well, I’m form south asia and we want to know that do you have any update / resources on lawsuit filed in California against the presidential proclamations (i.e. suspend” the entry to US till Dec 31, 2020) for removing ban? when the hearings will start? also who is actively pursuing this lawsuit? thanks.
September 19, 2020 at 16:44
I don’t have news on that one. I am more focused on the existing suits which look to extend the deadline.
September 19, 2020 at 17:19

September 19, 2020 at 19:15
Hello simon, Ive posted my question but I dont see it so I write again,
I am 2021 winner from Iran , my case number is around 7000 and I need your advice,
My military service was done in I.R.G.C and since background checks on Iranians takes long time, I may lose my chance coz of passing september 2021,
The truth is I never served in military, I payed an officer to skip it (its illegal but common here) I have military service record on my military ID card but its fake, the reason I payed is that I dont believe in their cause so I didnt want to serve and Im not afraid of any background check (I wasnt envolved in any political or military thing in my life) , Im willing to give any information that embassy officer wants to prove it , the problem is Im afraid that the officer may think that I did a fraud and illegal thing to buy my military service so he/she doesnt let someone like me to enter US , but Im just normal human who didnt want to be part of something that isnt right and is seeking better life outside here…
So what do you suggest , do I risk telling the truth and trust the officer that will not reject me immediately or act normal like I did my military service as written on my ID card and wait for the background check? (I dont want to lie but its my lifetime only chance to leave this country and dont know what the officer will react or thinks if I describe my story)
Also there is section in DS-260 form that asks If I served in military and I dont know what to answer…
I understand if you dont answer to my question so Im just asking for your advice….
I really appreciate your time and efort and learned a lot from you. Thanks!
September 19, 2020 at 19:22
THe problem with lies is that they come back to bite you.
You either lie and present the “fake” information – but that could raise some problems.
Or you tell the truth and if the CO believes you, then you will have showed yourself someone willing to go against the government and even create false documents in an elaborate way.
I really don’t have any advice for what to do – or which approach is more likely to fail/succeed. You must decide for yourself.
September 19, 2020 at 19:33
Yes , you are right sir , thanks for your time
September 19, 2020 at 20:43
Dear Brit,
Thank you very much for all your support. I’ve got one question regarding the docs of the Affidavit of Support. I have read that we should also send to the embassy, the passport of my Affidavit of Support. My Affidavit Support is an American citizen. He was born in USA. But he does not have a passport, since he hasn’t traveled much abroad and hasn’t needed it. He sent me his Driver License. Is that ok? Do I risk to get my visa refused if I send the driver license to the embassy? Thank you.
September 19, 2020 at 21:12
Hello Brit,
I am dv 2021..I received the Kcc email of received Docs. 4 days ago
I want to mention that second paragraph started as:
Interviews for the DV 2020 program are currently suspended. You can find out more about this suspension at travel.state.gov.
(The link take me to presidential proclamation)
All DV 2021 interviews must be concluded by September 30, 2021. Please refer to the visa bulletin at travel.state.gov to locate the current numbers being processed. This bulletin is updated after the 15th day of each month. Once an interview date has been scheduled, you will receive notification via email listed on your DS-260 to check dvlottery.state.gov.
If your case becomes current and you have not received notification to check dvlottery.state.gov, please contact [email protected] to confirm all of your documents have been received, and you are ready to be scheduled for an interview.
My question :
Is this normal? to send the suspension and not the court order!!
my number is already current.. according to this email.. must I email them?
September 19, 2020 at 22:11
It’s normal because DV2021 hasn’t even started yet. Relax, be patient.
September 19, 2020 at 21:53
Simon,
Do you think it’s late to add my husband? (We got married on August 15. I really don’t want to unlock the Ds260, but how would it be possible to add him? Without risks or delays.
Also he lives in FL and won’t be here to attend the interview. (He’s a physician at mayo)
Interview is on the 25th. Is it possible?
Thank you!
September 19, 2020 at 22:07
If he can’t attend the interview, then it can’t be done. Make sure you update your DS260 marital status at the interview. Once you are in the USA you can file an I-130 case to adjust his status.
September 19, 2020 at 23:04
How do I update my marital status on the Ds260 when I’m at the interview?
I’m taking all the documents of the marriage.
September 20, 2020 at 20:14
Discuss it with the CO.
September 19, 2020 at 22:35
Hello Sir.
Thanks for the respond about the case in Liberia. I do not really understand your respond that Liberia is not really cooperating, please better explain it to me Sir and kindly direct me to the next step. I wish to hear form you.
Thanks

I am very busy. You need to look at my recent articles and videos.
September 20, 2020 at 01:52
Hi Simon. always appreciate your time and insights about the dv lottery cases. They are very helpful. I am DV2020 selectee from Oceania region living in Japan, and I got a email yesterday (sept.18th) saying my interview has been scheduled in Tokyo embassy. My concern is that I may not have medical exam ready by the time of interview, since I just got the email yesterday and currently trying to make an appointment at the designated hospitals. Would have any advice on what I can do at this point?
September 20, 2020 at 20:16
You can attend the interview and follow up with the medical report – but it must be done before the deadline unless we get an extension.
September 20, 2020 at 02:26
Hi Simon, leaving another response because it doesn’t seem to be going through
Just wanted to check if my diversity visa gets issued and then expires before we enter the US, are there any consequences aside from losing the visa? (e.g. tax implications, eligibility for applications in other DV or green cards)
September 20, 2020 at 20:16
I answered the first time.
No.
September 20, 2020 at 04:13

But today, with the publication of CEAC DATA, I was shocked and shocked. I look forward to explaining this to you.
-Abaya-
September 20, 2020 at 20:17
What was the shock?
September 20, 2020 at 07:17
Mr Brit

I’m in group 5 from Asian region.

September 20, 2020 at 08:48
Hello sir,
First of all I would like to wish you and your family all the best.
My husband is a DV2021 winner with CN EU00010xxx. From 1998-2008 we lived in Italy and from 2008 till now we have been living in our country. Are we supposed to have a giudiciary certificate from Italy too in order to show it to the CO during the interview?
Thanks in advance
September 20, 2020 at 20:19
Yes – that is clear if you read the instructions. Do that.
September 20, 2020 at 10:28
Hello Simon
Hope you doing well
I have a question regarding dv lottery program.
Iam 18 years old and I graduated from high school my question is should I Apply as an applicant in dv lottery program or i have to apply with my parents as a derivative?
September 20, 2020 at 20:32
You can do both.
September 20, 2020 at 10:35
Hi simon
I really appreciate your work
and you are so great.
Do you provide information about other cases ?
September 20, 2020 at 20:32
Only DV lottery.
September 20, 2020 at 11:31
Good morning Sir, 2021AS00011XXX
1- How long should we wait before we send the documents if Kcc does not send this email, more than 4 months?
Thank you very much for your help,
September 20, 2020 at 20:33
It doesn’t really matter – your case won’t be ready until next summer anyway.

September 20, 2020 at 14:10
Hi Brit, Just a quick question. Tomorrow is the hearing again with Judge mehta could you please share the timings and is there any link that we hear hear it live.
September 20, 2020 at 20:36
Checking.
September 20, 2020 at 21:56
But will there be any hearing tomorrow? I’m asking you because just saw this on twitter:
“Curtis Morrison @curtisatlaw
Also, to my knowledge, there is no hearing scheduled for tomorrow. Only the @StateDept report due to Judge Mehta.”
September 20, 2020 at 23:30
No there is no hearing – tomorrow is when the government must present their report to the Judge.
September 20, 2020 at 14:35
Hi Brit I need to know the maximum limit to unlock the ds 260, because I have already unlocked it 2 times and you would like to unlock it a third time but I’m afraid that this could bring me some problem
September 20, 2020 at 20:36
1798 times is the limit. 😉
September 20, 2020 at 15:55
Hi Brit , Thank you for your support
I had my interview today and the concler give me ds 5535 to fill it but when I checked my status at ceac it’s showing refused is it normal or this is the end of the journey.
September 20, 2020 at 20:37
Normal, it means they are waiting for your document and then will wait to allocate a visa number. Patience.
September 20, 2020 at 16:24
Hello Brit,
I have been married for 15yrs under customary wedding blessed with 4 kids but no certificate, on the entry I entered status as married. on the Ds 260 I need to indicate the date of marriage, we have applied for a civil marriage at the AG mid next month, do I indicate the customary wedding date or wait & use the new wedding date?
regards
Jeff
September 20, 2020 at 20:38
Use the customary wedding date because otherwise your entry would be invalid.
September 20, 2020 at 16:51
This totally unfair,
The US Embassey in Kabul has sent this , there is no more hope to wait .
Hello,
Thank you for your email regarding the scheduling of a Diversity Immigrant Visa interview appointment.
Due to COVID-19, U.S. Embassy Kabul is currently closed to the public and will be unable to offer interviews to Diversity Visa 2020 applicants. Therefore if you were not previously interviewed for your Diversity Visa, we will be unable to schedule you for an interview, and we will be unable to process your Diversity Visa 2020 application.
Consistent with the court order in Gomez v. Trump, the Department of State is making a good-faith effort to adjudicate as many Diversity Visa applications as possible notwithstanding Presidential Proclamation 10014. Please note, however, the DV-2020 Program expires on September 30, 2020 and, in accordance with law, diversity visas may no longer be issued after that date. The Department expects that, due to resource constraints, limitations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and country conditions, we will not be able to adjudicate applications for all Diversity Visa selectees by that expiration date.
What is your taught on this brits???
September 20, 2020 at 20:39
Yep its unfair. The lawyers will be discussing this with the judge.
September 20, 2020 at 17:47
Hello Simon, I’m Samuel 36yrs and I have a son of 18yrs before I married to another woman with whom I have a 1yr girl. Now can I include my son’s name in this coming registration since I have never include his name before in the previous registration?
September 20, 2020 at 20:40
You should have included him in the original entry and will therefore be disqualified.
September 20, 2020 at 20:55
Yeah, Boakye you can include him in the up coming DV else you cant move with to the US if you are selected.
September 20, 2020 at 22:13
I believe you are referring to registering for DV 2022. If that is your question, i believe there should be no problem if you register your son eventhough you had not registered him in the previous lotteries like DV 2021
September 20, 2020 at 20:58
Hi Simon,
We can’t thank you enough for all your help and support for DV2020 winners.
Since few hours, I am trying to check the status of my case on the CEAC webpage but I am not succeeding. Am I the only one having this problem or this is related with the Statutory Hearing cutoff?
September 20, 2020 at 22:05
It’s working.
Make sure you take of the leading zeros.
September 20, 2020 at 22:52
Good day to all
I am one of Curtis plaintiffs and I just want to share my interview experience with everybody that might be interested. It might bring some hope to thousands of DV 2020 winners that are living a nightmare now.
The interview took place in Montreal, Canada.
We were at the consulate door 15 minutes before the time the interview was scheduled. A bit early so they sent us away for 15 minutes, when we returned at the correct time, we were screened by the security team.
Make sure you read the instruction regarding what you can bring with you and what you cannot. Technically, you need all your documentation (original and copy – check the following link for a complete list of documentation you need to provide – https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/diversity-visa-program-entry/diversity-visa-interview/diversity-visa-prepare-for-interview.html , or check BritSimon website for his advice, you can’t find a more complete and accurate website when it comes to DV lottery process – https://britsimonsays.com ).
Once we cleared the security, we went to the interview room, were we realized that we are the only ones in the entire room.
On the first part of the process we handed in our documentation and paid the interview fee. After the fee was paid, the interview started with a consular officer.
All the questions were directed to why we want to move to the USA and what are our plans once we get to the USA. As Brit always says, try to keep the dialog simple and as honest as possible.
They were very professional and friendly, and that took some of the pressure off our shoulders.
Since our original medical results expired one day before the interview, we informed them that we are expecting new results the following week. Because of that, at the end of the interview we received a letter stating that the visas were refused at the moment, however the officer assured us that as soon as the new medical results are available, they will reconsider the case and the visas can be issued at that time if everything is inn order with the medical results. Before we left, they informed us about the travel restrictions that are in place now and, they mentioned that the restrictions can be extended beyond December 30, 2020.
The entire process took almost 2 hours.
Several days later the medical results were released and on September 17, 2020 the visas were issued.
Now we are waiting for the passports.
A big THANK YOU to Brit, Curtis @ co. for their efforts and a big backet of good luck to all the DV 2020 winners. We all need that since this is not going to end only when we walk on US soil.
September 20, 2020 at 23:32
Awesome. Nicely done!
September 21, 2020 at 00:48
Dear Sir,
Currently i’m in 221g processing since last 14th. and they gave me a yellow paper and asked me to submit the medical. three days after 17th I have submit the medicals to the embassy. but still my case was refused they didn’t update the CEAC. should i need to contact the embassy or wait couple of days. because i graduated from affiliated program in UK. they said me once they need the verify the degree and it takes some time. so what should i do sir.
Thanks.
September 21, 2020 at 03:02
Just wait – be patient.
September 21, 2020 at 00:55
Hi simon, thank you for your great support. I am one of the curtis plaintiffs. My interview was scheduled for coming Tuesday, our medical result was transferred to the embassy, however my wife’s result is still pending, doctors said it may need 2months to deliver. My worries could it affect our chance of getting Visa. What do you advise. Thanks a lot.
September 21, 2020 at 03:03
Your wife will not get the visa unless the ban is extended. Assuming you are the winner you should ask them to issue your visa so that you can go to the USA and sponsor her later.
September 21, 2020 at 04:17
Hi Simon, looking at the CEAC data on DV2020 in the file FY2020-ceac-2020-09-19.csv I can see numbers of cases that do not contain information and say None, None, None … . and so on in all the columns of the table, are those the famous holes?
September 21, 2020 at 04:19
Yup. If the status is none – hole.
September 21, 2020 at 04:09
Hi Mr Simon
I’m a DV2021 winner, I already submitted my DS260 and received the documents submission letter from KCC.
So I would like to know if I unlock my DS260 and resubmit it before submitting my documents, does that mean I have to wait for another documents submission letter from KCC ?
September 21, 2020 at 04:19
No
September 21, 2020 at 04:30
Hi Brit,
Any news about DV 2022 ?
Thank You
September 21, 2020 at 05:04
It will start on October 1
September 21, 2020 at 05:41
Hi Brit,
I’m in Category 2.
As requested by the embassy, I handed over my new medicals to them on 17th Sep. But there’s no update after that, either in CEAC site or embassy.
Can this be due to the KCC delay in assigning a VISA? Do I need to push embassy? or wait for few more days?
September 21, 2020 at 06:15
Same here..handed over medicals as requested. What is the process after clearing AP? do they inform us if our visa get approved by the embassy?
September 21, 2020 at 15:34
Yes, but it will take some days.
September 21, 2020 at 15:29
Just wait.
September 21, 2020 at 05:43
Hi Brit,
It seems like if Sierra Leone has been kicked out of immigration issues with the USA by the current ambassador in Freetown. She has just extended the visa restriction on all citizens immigrant and non immigrant.
Very sad news for the people in that country.

Almost all immigrant and nonimmigrant visas other than those covered by limited exceptions will not be issued to Sierra Leonean citizens applying to the U.S Embassy in Freetown.
This is due to the continued delay on the part of the government to accept the return of its deported citizens according to the Public Affairs Department at the Embassy.
Suspension of the issuance of visas for government officials was also announced by the Embassy in 2017 on the same deportation issue.
The government of Sierra Leone hasn’t commented on the new visa suspension that was effected on 11th September, 2020.

Ahhh. OK – there is not much that can be done about that – but contact the embassy and point out the judges order and that DV should be treated as an exception.

Hi Brit,
I am DV2021 selectee and in process of gathering required documents. Should I attest my bachelor degree with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country I studied in? Or having the certificate attested by the university is enough?
Thank you

You need to read and follow the instructions specific to your embassy.

Hi Brit, Got one quick question. EU 26XXX 2021. While filling DS 260 for my son 8 years old I have answered NO to question: Did anyone assist you in filling out this application?
Do i need to unlock DS or its not a big mistake as i am as his parent did it
September 21, 2020 at 15:31
It doesn’t matter. It is expected the parent completes the form for a child.

“ why we want to move to the USA and what are our plans once we get to the USA”. What will be your answer if i may ask you .
And for the education certificate, must it be a passed one with good grades ?

Why do you care about MY answer. What if my answer was I want to be the world first gay astronaut to go to the moon. You probably shouldn’t copy my answer. Answer YOURSELF!
Education. Yes there is a minimum standard of education needed – which varies by country.

Hi Brit,
We don’t have any one in USA. If there is no one for sponsor, how much of money , do we need to show for me , my husband and daughter ( 2 1/2 years) ?

Hey Brit, I’ve read that they can be quite strict with photos and you never know if it was a passing photo or not. Are you allowed to use the same photograph from your passport? (I renewed mine recently) or should I pay to get another photo taken?
Cheers

If the passport photo was taken within the last few months you can use it

Good day, I have searched your FAQ’s but cannot seem to find the exact answer. I am going through a divorce so I would need to apply as married and include my spouse in the application and if successful just wouldn’t send an application form for her if successful.
The issue I have is that she will not give me a photo for the application. Is there any way around this? (I have a copy of her passport but not sure this would be accepted?)
Many Thanks
September 21, 2020 at 15:39
No there is no way around it. Get her photo or don’t enter. It really is as simple as that.
